SMILEY   ON SPOTIFY

smiley rapper tour

Smiley is now one of the most successful performers, composers, music producers and TV personalities in Romania. The Romanian artist is highly appreciated due to his originality, his great passion for music and his unmistakable smile.

Smiley  – The Musician

After five top-selling albums with SIMPLU, the band with whom he gained the public’s attention and appreciation, the artist decided to pursue a solo career.

He released so far four solo albums: “In lipsa mea” (2008), “Plec pe Marte” (2010),”Acasă” (2013) and „Confesiune” (2017). All the promoted singles gained massive appreciation from the fans and became number one hits.

In 2017, 10 years after his debut as a solo artist, Smiley released #Smiley10, a multimedia musical confession he wished to share with the public as a marathon of releases, confessions and innovations. From March to December, on the 10th of each month, Smiley released a new song together with a music video – a unique approach to the music market in Romania. All tracks can be found on his latest album, appropriately titled “Confession”. The first release of the year #Smiley10 is “Flori de plastic”, followed by “De unde vii la ora asta?”, “Domnu’ Smiley”, “Să-mi fie vară”, “Rara”, “O altă ea”, “Ce mă fac cu tine de azi”, featuring Guess Who, ”Pierdut printre femei”, “Vals” and “O poveste”.

2018 brought a new premiere in Smiley’s solo artistic career. On his birthday (July 27), Smiley announced his first National Tour. 10 concerts in 10 different cities, held from October 29 to November 18, and 30,000 people who applauded and sang along with Smiley turned the #Confesiune National Tour into the most exciting success of the artist in 2018.

The success of the 2018 National Tour was followed in 2019 by the largest National Tour ever held by a Romanian artist – @Smiley_Omul National Tour. The Tour started on October 29, in Pitesti, and ended on December 22 in Bucharest: 15 cities, 18 concerts, more than 45 hours of live music, a team of over 50 people, lights, lasers, projection screens, dancers and surprise guests.

In 2021, Smiley announced his fifth solo album. He already released 3 songs: “Ne vedem noi” (with Delia), “Lasa inima sa zbiara” (with Killa Fonic) and “Pana la tine”, a song he wrote for his girlfriend and his baby girl.

Smiley – The producer: “HaHaHa Production is proof that dreams can become reality. To work with friends, I’ve met in kindergarten and junior school, is more than I’ve ever wanted”. As he has permanently been a leading figure in the Romanian music industry, Smiley has also proven that not only can he turn outstanding talent into music, but also great music into efficient business. In 2009, Smiley founded the record label HaHaHa Production, aiming to join all the production efforts in one place by building a strong, determined and talented team of artists and producers under his direct coordination.

Among the most successful projects developed and produced by Smiley are HaHaHa Production artists: Soré, Feli, Cabron, Radio Killer, Paul Damixie, Don Baxter, Dorian, Jazzy Jo, Silviu Pasca, Emilian, and other notable musicians.

Smiley had also important international collaborations, working so far with Ingrid, a famous Italian artist, but also with American rappers Snoop Dogg and Sway and many others, while numerous international projects are currently being developed at HaHaHa Production. Smiley – The entertainer :

Although music takes up most of his time and energy, Smiley is also a great entertainer. He is part of two successful TV shows – Romania’s got talent (as a host) and The Voice Romania (as a jury member). His team won the competition three times.

In addition to this, he’s already starred in several movies: “Cu un pas inainte”, “Un film simplu”, “Nasa”, “Selfie” and #Selfie69.

Smiley Did What Needed To Be Done: The OVO Star On Sobriety Journey, Borrowing Drake's Maybach & Debut Album Plans

Smiley-Cover

Smiley’s not stopping. With the release of his latest project, I Did What I Did , the Toronto-based artist feels like there’s more to prove. The rapper unveiled his major label debut, 2021’s Buy or Bye 2 , under OVO Sound/Warner. Despite being rather unknown outside of Toronto at the time, OVO co-founder Drake hopped on “ Over The Top ,” earning Smiley his first charting hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

These days, Smiley is no longer under the major label banner of Warner Music and is solely signed to OVO Sound. Still, he’s rests in the mentorship of one of the biggest artists in the world, and the success they both saw with “Over The Top” has only put a battery in Smiley’s back to work harder. He’s focused on his weight loss journey (which he frequently highlights in his #MondayMotivation posts), and he revealed that he’s currently one month sober.

“I want a song as successful or more successful than ‘Over The Top’ by myself. Like, not even no other feature for my next thing,” he told HotNewHipHop . More importantly, he knows that a significant part of his success relies on his health. “I want to keep being more consistent, I want to just keep growing as an artist, I want to be more like, I want to make more songs like 'You Went Ghost.' I want to just be all over the place, I just want my work ethic to keep growing. Also, when all those happen, I want to [continue my weight loss journey],” he added.

Smiley wanted to release I Did What I Did to “feed the streets.” But up next is the release of his debut album. Although no release date has been set, he said there will be a number of features, strongly suggesting that he and Drake might reunite on wax once again. We recently caught up with Smiley following the release of I Did What I Did , where he discussed sobriety, borrowing Drake’s Virgil Abloh Maybach for the “Eternals” music video, and the release of his new project.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

HotNewHipHop: What’s the significance of the title, I Did What I Did ?

Smiley: Honestly, alright, so, I Did What I Did, where I originally got it from, was when I was looking for a name for the EP. I was listening to all my songs from the EP because I already picked all the songs. I listened from one to nine and I was just writing down all the quotables from the songs down. And then from once I got to the last one or whatever, I was looking through all the names. And then I Did What I Did was one of them. Me and my team were looking over it and I was just like, "This was the most relatable one for me," and I feel like relate to the audience, too, you know?

Just yesterday, for example. I had a release party, but then I canceled it because I'm like, I don't want to relapse and I want to keep making music. I'd rather bring it to the studio. So then, a lot of people were kind of mad, like, why are you canceling the release party? Or like ‘What the heck?’ Then, when they'll see me in the studio and they're just mad because they thought there was no party. But it’s like, there is no party. It’s just a studio thing. And then, to me, it's like, I did what I did and I don't care no more of what these people think, you know? I don't want to make no one happy no more. So I feel like I Did What I Did is really just me. Like, yeah, bro, I did what I did.

What are you hoping to accomplish next in the immediate future? What are you striving for at this point in your career?

I want a song as successful or more successful than “Over The Top” by myself. Like, not even no other feature for my next thing. For my next thing, I want to keep being more consistent. I want to just keep growing as an artist, I want to be more like I want to make more songs like “You Went Ghost," I want to just be all over the place, I just want my work ethic to keep growing. Also, when all those happen, I want to [continue my weight loss journey]. I want them both to be at the same time, you know? Like, I blow up and you might actually see the weight droppin’. Those two things are my top [priorities] because it would help my career, too. Just performance-wise and looking better on camera, feeling better, you know?

What’s been the biggest change in your life since Buy or Bye 2 ?

I feel like since then, a lot. For me, kind of playing with my craft more and learning myself more. I kind of got more producers now like that I tapped in with –  I have a whole list. Like so much different beats I could go into, you know? I feel like I'm just in a way better place now. And I'm in a place right now where I’m fully OVO Sound. So like I could just be dropping music how I want to you know?

Read More : Ice Spice Says She Was Starstruck By Smiley At OVO Fest

Has the deal changed at all since signing to OVO? No, no, because before I was Warner Records but now, I'm just full OVO. I'm OVO. So now, I could just drop so much music. I have so much music, like all of the music from I Did What I Did is kind of old.

When you look back at the first Buy Or Bye tape, what was the biggest lesson you learned as an artist since then?

Take more time with it. Capitalize more on the moment and how to do a rollout better and just promote yourself better. You know, and just be in front of the people as you drop your tape. Like, you know, sometimes I'll just drop my tape and just f*ck off, you know? Now I know way more. And just, keep working. Don’t ever think like, ‘Okay, I dropped the tape. I have some time to just sit down and chill. And then, yeah, Buy Or Bye , when I dropped that, music wasn’t my only focus.

There aren’t any features on this project compared to Buy Or Bye 2 and its deluxe release. What was the decision behind that?

The reason I gave is one of them. I'm working on my album still, and this is a tape. I haven't dropped music in a long time. So I'm just like, let me just feed the streets quick by myself. Obviously, the album will have features and everything but like, I just wanted to do a quick – just show them like, I could do this by myself too. No, sure. But the album will, for sure, have features.

Drake’s not on the project but I could imagine he had a role in putting it together. What song surprised him the most when you played the mixtape in its entirety?

“Long Nights,” to be honest. But like, for this one, realistically, I didn't send him that much music on this one just because I knew he was on tour everything, and mostly, I'm doing it with [OVO co-founder Oliver El-Khatib]. I worked with him. Like, I send him a lot of my music you know? Sometimes, I just want to surprise The Boy like, oh final touch, listen to it. Oli execs my stuff. So like, he gets to hear my music, too. For the album, I’m for sure going to send way more music to Drake and get his input. We’re going to get him on that, too.

What song caught Oliver off-guard?

“Nicky Nine Doors” and “You Went Ghost.” Those were his super standouts. At first, he heard songs like “Fast Route” and “How Far.” Like there was this Hollywood sound that I had for a bit. We were getting ready to pick the songs for the EP and then – man, he gave me a serious call one time. He was just like, “Yo, these guys want to hear what we’ve seen in you the first time. You know, like the real Smiley, that raw sh*t. Like, this is like your horror movie.” I knew exactly what he meant, and that’s like that “Nicky Nine Doors” sound, that “Eternals,” that “Moderation.” So, we made a whole set of songs and those were those songs right there. Then, when he heard “Nicky Nine Door,” and a couple of other songs like “You Went Ghost,” he was excited.

Did you play “Nicky Nicky Nine Doors” as a kid?

Yeah, for sure. I was always the one scared because I’m like, “I'm gonna get caught. My friends are fast as sh*t.”

Did you ever get caught?

Yo, one time we did. Like, we actually did Nicky Nicky Nine Doors, ironically, at a trap house. And, oh my gosh, we ran through the hood. The crackheads came out the house, stumbles, and they’re running. They’re high too, they almost tried to kill us. They almost caught me because we have to climb over a big fence, and I couldn’t climb as fast as these guys did and they almost got me – they’re going to kill me. And then, one of my friends helped me to get over.

How do you feel about how the Toronto scene evolved?

I feel like it's actually so crazy because I feel like the music still going hard. A lot of Toronto artists are actually going so hard, put in a lot of work into their craft and a lot of people are being consistent right now, you know? One thing I didn't realize too was – I was just watching a live stream kind of the other day of Akademiks when he went on Twitch with everyone in the city, you know? And then – I feel like I bring Bundog into some of my stuff. So funny.

So, I was listening to it, and he tells Ak like, “Yo, you know we need your support… this, this, this.” And he’s just like, “Watch a year from now, and we'll redo the statistic of what all these kids are gonna do. They're either gonna be dead or in jail. You will see a year from now.” Then, I’m looking at it. As I’m listening to it, I’m like, “Holy f*ck, yeah. There are so many people from that livestream that are either dead or in jail.” And it’s a crazy thing, you know? So, it’s like, I hope everyone just really make it out. Just get out of here.

Do you think the social media drama surrounding Toronto’s rap scene hurts or helps?

It helps for the moment, but long run, it f*cks with you, you know? So that's just what it is. I just feel like whatever way, you're still hustling to get where you're getting, you know, but people just do their own do it their own way.

How did it feel returning back to Montreal for the It’s All A Blur tour?

It felt good, you know? I actually brought some of my family out to the show, too. So I was happy about that because I barely get to see them like that. You know, always going back to Montreal, I enjoy it. I have a lot of family out there, too. So I try to go see them, also. But it felt good.

I didn't see Drake in a long time, too. So to catch up with him, it was a vibe, you know? I had had a few shows out there also. And just to catch up with the team, it was sick. I seen Oli, too. So we chopped it up a bit. And then I was on the big screen, you know? I was like, “Holy, that guy!” It was sick to actually see it in person. This guy is actually going like two hours long, performing like a real ballgame. And he's not like being subbed out, you know? So I’m like this guy’s the guy.

You mentioned that you began your journey to sobriety. What made you commit to that decision?

Knowing that I’m going to start up my own tour, knowing the feeling of how it felt when I first did my sobriety, and how much weight I actually did end up losing. And how I felt like. I just felt so good. So I'm like, I need that feeling, again? Even though, the only reason why I do end up gaining more weight and drinking a lot – like, I won’t just drink for fun and games at home. I do it in the studio to create more music, you know?

But I realized I just have to stop and just do it sober and thug it out. There are more benefits to sobriety and doing everything that I want to do. I knew, ‘I have to do that,’ and it’s just been feeling good. Like right now, I’m one month sober. Feeling incredible. More available, present. I probably wouldn’t want to do this interview if I was on edge.

How do you navigate through the industry parties and events, as well as it being summer, while on your sobriety journey?

So my biggest thing is like, getting through the first week. The first week is the hardest because it’s just like the temptations are easier to bite into because it's just like, you're only four days sober , you know? It’s like, oh, five days and it’s probably a Friday and since I just drank and on Monday restart. Now that I’m at a month streak, oh, nothing’s gonna – I’m not restarting my streak for nothing. You know how long that takes again to get to it? I’m trying to beat my record of three months of sobriety. Now, it’s easy for me

I was just at a little boat party – my friend’s boat party. That was annoying because when I was bored and I was ready to go, I couldn't leave because they were in the fucking boat. Then, that’s why my release party, I wouldn’t have been able to leave when I want because it’s my release party. But if it’s anybody else’s sh*t, I could go for a bit, and when I say, “Alright, I’m bored” or “I’m just done, I want to go home,” then I could go and I won’t relapse. So, it’s just easier right now because I’m one month sober so hopefully, I keep going and when I start drinking again, you’ll see it. [Laughs]

Well, congratulations. That’s a major milestone to reach.

Oh, and I dropped my vape, too, because I was a super vaper. I’m like, “Holy, I even got rid of the nicotine.” Like, even sometimes, I wake up – like my friends know that from back in the days – like some days, I just want to cold turkey everything -- I don’t know, I’m just weird like that. I remember one time, I had an ounce of weed that I bought that night before. And the next day, I woke up, I just gave it to my friend, like, “You want this? I’m done smoking.”

I had to ask – did you return Drake’s Maybach in full condition? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I couldn’t – that was the Virgil. I couldn’t do the Virgil and The Boy like that.

What was your reaction when he let you borrow it?

I was super like, “Oh, this guy's like – bro.” Because it was actually last minute, I asked him, you know? I know like what those type of things – he wasn't even in the country so there are probably a lot of protocols so I was surprised he made it happen. Not surprised but I just thought it would probably need more time. So like, I’m like, f*ck, this guy’s such a sick guy, fam. He’s an actual genuine guy, he doesn’t have to do that. He didn’t even tell me like, “Yo fam, just make sure like, don’t –” nothing! I could’ve been on the loose, I could’ve brought that to – I could’ve done whatever I wanted! I didn’t do no crazy stuff. I’m mad I didn’t get more of the car in the video.

I want to dive into “You Went Ghost” before I let you go. It’s one of my favorite songs on the project and you’re showing a vulnerable side of yourself. What exactly inspired that song?

What inspired me first was the beat. The beat put me in that mode like, yeah, okay, it has to be one of those type of songs. Like, my f*ckin’ heartbreaking songs, even though I don’t care no more! It’s like sometimes, I’ll be like, “Do you think I care that much realistically?” I just like to rap on the vulnerable side. I’ll make it seem like I really, really care. Like it’s real stuff that happened but I’m actually like, I’m f*cked up, guy. But I like to rap towards the vulnerable side of things like ah!

But yeah, the beat inspired me and I was probably off a f**king Adderall and I was just locked in [laughs]. I just finished it, I went crazy on that. Yeah, just talking to a girl. I just shot the video yesterday at the studio and I can’t wait to see the video, I shot a lot of scenes. That’s another thing about my sobriety too, like, yesterday, shooting the video all day, I actually utilized every location I was at. Shot so many scenes because I’m sober and I’m trying to do the most out of the whole situation.

One line that stood out to me was, “All these nights in the studio is why I lost her.” Have you been able to find a balance between your personal and professional life?

With that specific situation, it was just because it was a situation before the rapping stuff. Like, anything going forward, any girl, I wouldn’t care. You know what you’re getting into, you know what this is. Don’t ever tell me anything – are you crazy? You could never tell me that. For someone that was with me before the rapping stuff started, I understand. So, I say, it’s kind of different for you so I get it but you have to get this, also.

Finally, I want to ask you about the debut album. What can you tell me about it?

I'm just gonna go super – like, I'm giving my all into this album. I want to just let you guys really understand me more. More of my personal stuff. I want to get deep into this, you know? And I'm gonna work super hard, even harder than I've ever been to just give you guys good music.

REVIEW – SMILEY DROPS NEW ALBUM BUY OR BYE 2 AND IT’S A SMASH

Kevin Bourne

Last night at midnight, Toronto rapper Smiley dropped his highly anticipated album Buy Or Bye 2 and it was well worth the wait. The 15-track project includes previous hit singles “In My Zone”, “Moving Different” and “Breakdown”, and of course the mega smash “Over The Top” featuring OVO Sound boss Drake.

The album, a follow up his 2018 release Buy Or Bye , opens with the laid back and piano heavy “When I Die” where he continues the braggadocious flex we’ve heard on recent singles, as he lists all the people that fuck with him, from 6ixbuzz and Drake to his opps.

While he continues that trend on the project, he also gets vulnerable, giving us an open look into his life and feeling on “Streets”.

There are two things that stand out on the project. First, Smiley’s beat selection. He always had an ear for great beats and he carries that into his album. On tracks like “Ghetto”, “How Can I Miss” and “Made It” we get an assortment of instruments, from flutes and horns to guitars. The production and instrumentation are on point and reinforce Smiley’s unique, signature sound.

The second thing that stands out is the Toronto representation on the album. One of the knocks on the Toronto hip-hop scene is that rappers don’t collaborate enough because of street politics. Aside from Drake, Pressa features on the Tay Keith-produced “38”, a hard driving bop and one of the standout tracks on the album. Smiley and Pressa were seen hanging out together in L.A. on social media so it was only a matter of time before we got a collab from the two. We’ve seen Pressa on a few laid back tracks like “Attachments”, but he shines on this uptempo offering. This has to be one of the best Pressa features we’ve ever heard. Meanwhile, Duvy closes out the album featuring on the equally music video worthy “Topic”. As a closer, the song leaves you wanting more and feeling like the album isn’t done.

Rounding out the features on the album are Golde London on “Venice Beach”, OhGeesy on “How Can I Miss”, and Yung Bleu on “Beat It”, which arguably competes with “38” for the best track on the album.

Overall, Smiley successfully flips the mirror towards his haters and shows that he has what it takes to have longevity in the game.

Rising Toronto Rapper Smiley Unveils New Single in Anticipation of Upcoming Album

The song "Bill" is the precursor to the Deluxe Edition of Buy or Bye 2.

pixeltracker

Posting up over 150 million cumulative streams and earning acclaim from XXL, The FADER, UPROXX, Rolling Stone, and more, rising Toronto rapper and OVO Sound artist Smiley shares a new banger entitled "Bill" today. It sets the stage for the arrival of Buy or Bye 2 Deluxe Edition, arriving next Friday, March 25.

"Bill" highlights his slick signature flow as it glides back and forth over the sparse production. Flexing his dynamic inflection, Smiley's voice rises and falls with quotable bars and an unshakable proclamation, "My job is so awesome. My life is so awesome."

Presenting the definitive version of Buy or Bye 2, the Deluxe Edition boasts 6 new tracks, including the upcoming single "Grammy" [feat. 42 Dugg]. The original Buy or Bye 2 has impressively amassed over 135 million global streams. The explosive single "Over The Top" [feat. Drake] notably eclipsed 100 million streams globally and vaulted into the Top 10 at Urban Radio. Not to mention, Pressa, OHGEESY, and Yung Bleu each pulled up for features. Among widespread acclaim, COMPLEX put it best, "Smiley has shown he's willing to put in the work to keep growing, as he ascends to the top." Stay tuned.

ABOUT SMILEY

Toronto rapper Smiley has a knack for drama. The 24-year-old made his name the last few years delivering poisonous rhymes in a soft voice, a captivating tactic that has won him a host of fans across North America and beyond. Whether he's making terrifying murder ballads like 2018's "Body" or pop-rap anthems like this year's "In My Zone," he demonstrates an eye for details and one of rap's most unique flows. It's no surprise he's caught the attention of one of his city's biggest stars: Drake. In 2017, Smiley released the menacing "Hit," sparking online buzz and inspiring Drake's camp to share the song. The OVO boss would later say that the younger artist's dark yet colorful work inspired his 2018 epic, Scorpion.

Smiley's string of boundary-pushing tapes in the ensuing years earned him a deal with OVO Sound in 2021, and resulted in "Over the Top," where Smiley and Drake unite to toast the breakout artist's come-up. It was a striking introduction for many and became Smiley's first single to hit the Hot 100. It's no wonder that, as he prepares his debut album Buy or Bye 2, he's gearing up to take his sound to the world's stage. That burst of success afforded him some space to think about what he wants out of music and life. As a result, Buy or Bye 2 shows Smiley at his most confident, celebrating making it out of the hood to live among the stars while working hard to become one in his own right. It's clear with the success he's achieved so far, that he's well on his way.

10 Things You Didn’t Know about Smiley

smiley rapper tour

Toronto-based rapper Smiley may not have a huge mainstream following just yet, but that’s all about to change. 2021 is playing out to be the biggest year of his career so far, and he still has a lot more than he plans on accomplishing. He recently signed a deal with Drake’s OVO record label , and the two released a song together. Smiley’s unique style is impossible to ignore, and his lyrics are authentic and intriguing. Now that he has a label behind him, we’ll probably be seeing a lot more from Smiley and his growing fan base is really looking forward to it. The release date for his debut album hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s definitely on its way. Keep reading to learn 10 things you didn’t know about Smiley.

1. He’s Been Rapping For Almost A Decade

There are a lot of people who think that Smiley is relatively new to the rap game, but that isn’t true. He was doing his thing long before Drake started sharing his music on social media. Smiley began posting rap videos around 2013, and it didn’t take long for him to start gaining attention in the Toronto area.

2. He Was Trapping Before Rap

Becoming a rapper wasn’t always something that Smiley saw for himself. Before he was serious about music, he was trapping. He told Complex , “…once you’re trapping, you don’t really have time for other things, you know? You always just want to be on the road dealing with your wops and stuff. So I never had any time for nothing else.”

3. He’s A Dad

The world may see Smiley as a rising star, but when he’s at home, he’s focused on being a dad. Smiley has a young daughter who he refers to as Lay Lay. Based on some of his Instagram posts, it’s clear that’s a very proud father. Smiley hasn’t shared any information about his daughter’s mother and he appears to be single at the moment.

4. He’s Focused On Getting In Shape

Now that Smiley’s career is really about to take off, he’s had to make some major changes to his lifestyle in order to be able to keep up with the physical demands of constant performances. He has hired a trainer and completely changed up his diet so that he can get in better shape.

5. He Loves Fashion

Fashion and hip-hop have had a very close relationship since the genre’s inception. In some cases, a rapper’s style is almost as important as their music. Fortunately for Smiley’s fans, he doesn’t disappoint in either category. He loves fashion and has a great sense of style. From clothing to accessories, you can bet that he’s going to be wearing the best of the best.

6. He’s A Private Person

Putting all of his business in the streets doesn’t seem to be something that Smiley has any interest in doing. At this point in his career, Smiley hasn’t shared much information about his personal life. However, this could change as he starts becoming more widely known. Or, he may decide to take after Drake and remain low-key.

7. He Loves Inspiring People

Smiley is thankful to be in the position he’s in and he hopes to use his music to do more than keep people entertained. He also wants to make them feel inspired, and so far he’s accomplished that. During his interview with Complex, Smiley said, “It means a lot to me that I’m inspiring people. That actually makes me feel better than anything!”

8. He Was In Jail The First Time Drake Reached Out To Him

Due to the activities, he was involved in earlier in his life, Smiley had some unfortunate run-ins with the law. This eventually led to jail time. In fact, Smiley was in jail on a gun charge when Drake first contacted him via Instagram. When Drake released his Scorpion album, he listed Smiley’s album Buy. or. Bye as one of his inspirations and their relationship grew from there.

9. He Loves Hanging Out By The Water

Even though Smiley is originally from Canada, he is currently living in Los Angeles. As you can imagine, he’s been taking advantage of the beautiful weather and beaches that Southern California has to offer. When he gets free time, you can usually catch him spending time at the beach and soaking up some sun.

10. He’s Thankful For All Of The Love He’s Gotten

Smiley has come a long way since he first started making rap videos with his friends. Although things haven’t always been easy, he’s continued to find ways to keep going and he has no plans of stopping any time soon. He is very grateful for all of the people who have supported his journey and continue to rock with his music.

Tokyo Tour Guide

featured miley image

Hey there! I'm Miley , a ninja apprentice, former Japanese idol, and voice actress with over 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry. The pandemic hit my work hard, prompting a change in direction. Two years ago, I dove into the vibrant community of Asakusa, drawn by a local's tale. Asakusa , a beloved tourist spot, lacked young guides, and with the aging guide population, I saw an opportunity. Leveraging my background in stage shows, I aim to blend guiding skills with entertainment flair, introducing a fresh tour experience. My vision is to make guiding a sought-after profession, inspiring more young guides and contributing to sustainable tourism. Let's embark on this exciting journey together!

Embark on a delightful journey along the Sumida River and Komagata Street. Exploring the ancient roots of Asakusa dating back to the year 628, where history unfolds like a captivating tale! 🚢🌸 Discover the story behind Asakusa through two must-visit spots: Kaminarimon Gate and Senso-ji Temple. Dive into the charm of these historical places and the Asakusa Yokocho, and take photogenic photos at a theme park based on the concept of Japanese festivals! 🎡🎢🎠

"I went on Miley's Ueno tour in March 2024 and had such a great time! Her tours are really fun + informative and you get to see and learn about places you probably wouldn't otherwise. Miley puts a lot of effort in and her personality is really nice and cheerful - her style of touring is awesome. I definitely recommend Smiley Walk! 😄"
"Miley is amazing!!!✨She is one of the nicest person I've met in Japan!! We went on a full day tour of Asakusa with her and it was super fun. We have been to many parts of Tokyo but it was our first time in Asakusa and she knows so many people there! We learned so much about the area and it was so much fun! We loved it so much that we always try to stop by her bar and say hi when we are in town! It's my #1 recommendation in Japan is to do this!!!!! 🩷🩷🩷"
"I've been to Tokyo many times, but the two Smiley Tours I went on were probably the most fun I ever had there, plus I learned a lot of things I hadn't known. Miley is incredibly upbeat and fun to be around, and you can tell that it's her natural personality, vs just an act for tourists. If you're there on a Friday night, be sure to check out her bar in Asakusa as well; besides her lovely personality, the tours/walks and her bar are all great ways to meet interesting people. Anywhere Miley's at is guaranteed to be a fun place to be as well 😄 I can't imagine visiting Tokyo in the future without also treating myself to a Smiley Experience! Go on a Smiley Walk yourself, you can come back and thank me later 😉"

Missy Elliott is ditching sweets to prepare to tour, says her dog is 'like my best friend'

smiley rapper tour

First it was induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as the inaugural female hip-hop artist.

Then, the announcement that after a 25-plus year career a first-ever headlining tour would be unveiled this summer.

Add to that a prominent role in Pharrell Williams’ currently untitled movie project about his life and clearly, it’s a Missy Elliott-palooza.

On July 4, a few days after she turns 53, Elliott will embark on the Out of This World tour with co-stars Busta Rhymes and Ciara , as well as Timbaland, who has known Elliott since high school and helped innovate smashes including “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Hit Em Wit Da Hee,” “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It.”

The 30-date run, which kicks off in Vancouver, will wind through Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Houston, Tampa, Atlanta, Baltimore, Brooklyn and Philadelphia among its stops.

Elliott, who lives in Atlanta, is also filming the Williams movie in Richmond, Virginia – both hail from the Virginia Beach area – while prepping for her tour. She'll star alongside Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph , Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry and fellow music luminary Janelle Monáe.

Here is what Elliott had to say about this fulfilling period in her life.

Question: Your performance at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in November was electrifying. What was going through your mind that night after being inducted as the first female rapper?

Answer: Whenever I go into any performance it’s a lot of thought process, from the clothes to what songs you’re going to perform to the dances. I think most of the time I’m engulfed in everything. But this time I felt like I was floating because I was in the room and watching many artists that had been around for way longer than I have just getting into the Rock Hall. It’s still a pinch-me moment, like "Wow, I’m here." … Until stuff like that happens, like (being inducted into) the Songwriters Hall of Fame , those things felt like they were so out of reach until I was on that stage.

With you, Eminem, LL Cool J and several other hip-hop artists getting into the Rock Hall, do you think they’ve improved their acknowledgement of the genre?

It’s a good thing, an amazing thing, and hopefully me being the first female, it opens the door for other females and hip-hop artists in general because it has had such an impact on so many genres of music. I go to Japan and all of the stores are playing nothing but hip-hop.

It’s hard to believe this is your first headlining tour, so why now?

My first tour was Lilith Fair (in 1998). Then I did Rock the Mic with Jay-Z and 50 Cent (in 2003), and my last tour (in 2004) was me, Beyoncé , Alicia (Keys) and Tamia. I had the opportunities to tour alone, but because I was so engulfed in writing and producing for myself and other artists, I never felt like I wanted to be out that long without being able to continue doing that. But then one day I was like, "I want to go out." My management, they didn’t believe me. But my manager called me the next day and said, “Are you serious?” and I said, "Yeah, I want to go out." I believe God aligned it. Mentally, I was ready. Physically, I was ready.

Why is it called the Out of This World tour?

The first thing I thought of is anything that I have done sonically, musically, visually has been kind of out of this world. I felt even Busta , who I’ve watched before I even came along, has been that way, too. And Ciara and Tim(baland), his music has been futuristic . So that title was fitting for all of us. I believe we all embody being out of this world.

What can you share about the show or production?

It’s going to be a little bit of everything . I’m biting my nails wanting to tell what will happen, but I want everybody to come and see it. I can tell you the energy is going to be through the roof. I tell people bring your slides, no heels, no shoes, because you’re gonna dance the whole night.

Since touring isn’t typical, how are you preparing?

It’s most definitely a grind. You have to be in a good mental space. I have Busta and Ciara and Timba out there so it’s going to feel like family and not, I’m going to work. On top of that, I have a physical therapist I’m starting with and they put these big things on my legs to loosen everything up. And I have to start eating right. I am most definitely putting down any sweets, and that is hardest thing for me. I’m gonna eat my last cupcake in a week. But I hike the mountains every day.

More: Hip-Hop legends Big Daddy Kane, Melle Mel celebrate the genre's 50th anniversary

Is there anything you have to bring with you on the road?

My (Yorkie) dog, Fendi. I lost one of my dogs in November and that crushed me, so she’s like my best friend. She calms my anxiety. She’s living her best life. She’s in a couple of Instagram photos (on my page), and she has her own page and her own fans.

As you get ready for a headlining tour and look back at what you’ve accomplished, do you feel you’ve become a pioneer for women in hip-hop?

I guess now I can say that yeah, I get a chance to sit back and look back at all the new females coming. People don’t know how hard it is when you’re a female coming up. My hat goes off to them for doing it for real. You have to be tough and strong and consistent, and I’m on the sideline cheering them on.
