Wentworth Club ready for biggest-ever BMW PGA Championship

Stage is set at one of the world’s most historic and prestigious venues as mcilroy, rahm and lowry headline star-studded line-up.

Wentworth Club, one of the most storied venues in golf, is preparing to host the biggest event in its 101-year history as the BMW PGA Championship returns from September 13-17 with a world-class field, a star-studded celebrity and entertainment line-up and an elevated spectator experience.

The famed West Course is undergoing its final preparations for the arrival of the world’s biggest golfing superstars, including four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy, reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm, recent FedEx Cup winner Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry, winner of the coveted BMW PGA Championship title 12 months ago.

WENTWORTH CLUB HOSTS 102ND TOUR EVENT

Wentworth’s hosting of the BMW PGA Championship, for the 40 th successive time and the 44 th edition in total, will mark the 102 nd European Tour group-sanctioned event to be staged at the prestigious Surrey venue – more than any other venue by some distance.

Indeed, the Club has been marking its glorious history through a five-year Centenary Celebration which began last year, on the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the Club in 1922 – the original lay-out, the East, was opened in 1924 before the West welcomed its first guests in 1926. The John Jacobs-designed Edinburgh course, meanwhile, was founded in 1990.

The excitement around the fourth Rolex Series tournament of the DP World Tour season will be further elevated as it comes just two weeks before Europe face the United States in the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Italy, which itself takes place exactly 70 years after Wentworth hosted the 1953 edition of golf’s greatest team event.

FESTIVAL OF GOLF AWAITS

As ever, the BMW PGA Championship will provide a veritable “Festival of Golf” for spectators, with fun for all the family in the Championship Village as well as an improved on-course viewing experience with new grandstands and viewing platforms from which to watch the world’s best in action.

Wednesday’s Celebrity Pro-Am boasts a star-studded line-up including legendary footballer Gareth Bale, ‘Spider-Man’ star Tom Holland and England cricketers Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Harry Brook and Sir Andrew Strauss.

In the Championship Village, the official tournament charity partner, mental health charity CALM, will be the beneficiaries of the popular Mega Putt Challenge while there will also be a chipping challenge for spectators to test their skills.

Titleist will be on-site to offer a golf-ball fitting service, while a nearest-the-pin simulator and ‘BMW Long Drive’ challenge are among countless activities guests can enjoy in the village, just a stone’s throw from the grandstand overlooking the all-important 18 th green.

LIVE PERFORMANCES AT WENTWORTH

Live music will come from Rudimental star DJ Locksmith and Grammy-nominated DJ Jax Jones after the day’s golf is wrapped up on Wednesday and Saturday respectively alongside performances from as-yet-unannounced artists during the day.

Platinum-certified indie band The Wombats will bring the curtain down on the weekend after the final putt has been sunk on Sunday – but the identity of the winner is anyone’s guess with so many modern golfing greats in action.

“We could not be more excited for this year’s BMW PGA Championship and it is shaping up to be the biggest and best event our club has hosted in its distinguished history of elite golf tournaments,” said John Blanch, general manager at Wentworth Club.

WEST COURSE IN IT’S BEST EVER CONDITION

“The West Course is perhaps in the best condition it has ever been and is going to provide a firm but fair test for the elite line-up of players, while the spectators will be treated to a better viewing and off-course experience than ever before.

“Our members and staff cannot wait to welcome the famously respectful and knowledgeable British golf fans to our hallowed grounds at Wentworth Club and we hope everyone enjoys a spectacular week of golf.”

One of the UK’s most iconic and respected golf clubs, Wentworth Club is known as the headquarters of the European Tour group and the ever-present host of the BMW PGA Championship.

The West Course, which was designed by Harry Colt and redesigned in modern times by four-time Major winner Ernie Els, is complemented by three more world-class layouts: the East Course, Edinburgh Course and the nine-hole Executive course. The rich history of the club and 19 th -century clubhouse is currently being celebrated by a five-year Centenary Celebration.

BMW PGA Championship 2023: Sunday’s final round tee times and groups at Wentworth

Published: 10 September 2022 Last updated: 16 September 2023

The 1st tee at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The 1st tee at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Tee times and groups for the final round of the 2023 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth where Ludvig Aberg leads the DP World Tour’s flagship event.

Ryder Cup rookie Aberg leads by two shots heading into the final round as he bids to win his first Rolex Series event ahead of his Team Europe debut in Rome. If Aberg were to win it would be his second DP World Tour title having won the Omega European Masters in Switzerland just a fortnight ago.

Sweden's Ludvig Aberg leads the BMW PGA Championship heading into the final round at Wentworth.

The Swede is -16 through three rounds and leads teammate Tommy Fleetwood and Scotland’s Connor Syme. Ryan Fox, Callum Shinkwin, and Aaron Rai are a shot further back, with Jon Rahm at 12-under. See the full BMW PGA leaderboard .

All 12 of Team Europe’s Ryder Cup team and captain Luke Donald will be in action on Sunday when a two-tee start and earlier-than-planned tee times will be in place due to thunderstorms being forecast for the afternoon.

Players will be grouped in threeballs and start from either the 1st or 9th tee. Organizers have avoided starting groups from the 10th tee due to it being a par 3.

England's Tommy Fleetwood is aiming to win the BMW PGA Championship for the first time.

The action gets underway at 8.10am BST (3.10am EST), with the final group of Aberg, Syme and Fleetwood out at 10.30am (5.30am).

79 players made the weekend and will receive a share of the increased $9m purse – $1m more than last year. See our full breakdown of the BMW PGA prize money .

The event is taking place a week later than it did in 2022. It will move even further into September in 2024 as revealed in the new DP World Tour Schedule .

Payday at Wentworth

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2023 BMW PGA Championship

1673909203

Kate McShane

The BMW PGA Championship is considered the DP World Tour’s flagship event, and rightfully so given the list of past winners. Among some of the game’s best player to claim the title have been Tony Jacklin, Arnold Palmer, Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Ian Woosnam, Jose Maria Olazabal, Colin Montgomerie and Rory McIlroy. And recent champs have also double as major winners, too, including Francesco Molinari, Danny Willett and Shane Lowry, winner a year ago at Wentworth .

Suffice it to say, joining this honor roll is something New Zealand’s Ryan Fox certainly aspired to do this week. But the way he grabbed it on Sunday was particularly impressive. A closing 67 that included a triple bogey on the third hole then eight birdies on his final 13 holes—capped by a six-footer on the 18th—allowed him to beat Tyrrell Hatton by one stroke.

The 36-year-old had won three times previously on the DP World Tour, but this victory was the most prestigious. The Rolex Series event offers an overall prize money payout of $9 million with Fox claiming at first-place payday of $1.53 million.

The PGA TOUR heads to Jack’s Place for the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, contested at Muirfield Village Golf Club in central Ohio. The tournament, hosted by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, debuted at Muirfield Village in 1976 and is one of the PGA TOUR’s longest-running events at the same venue.

The PGA TOUR uses a standardized system for determining event fields based on the current season’s Priority Ranking while also including additional exemption and qualifying categories.

Field sizes can vary by event, as can the number of event-specific exemptions. Fully exempt PGA TOUR members are guaranteed entry into all full-field events, with various conditional categories subject to periodic reshuffles based upon FedExCup Points accrued throughout the season. Categories with "reshuffle" notation indicate that a reshuffle period has occurred.

Note: An additional year of eligibility was granted to some categories because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2024 RBC Canadian Open is here, and  as a golf fan, you are requested not to miss it.  Commencing from   May 30th  to  June 2nd , the event will  be held  at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club, Ontario.  The golf course, which   was designed  by the renowned architect Harry Colt  back  in 1894, underwent a massive renovation in 2019 to suit the needs of the present golfers.  But it has also brought back several of Colt’s  designs  that   were lost  over the years. Given such an exciting setting, don’t you want to see magic happen on the course again?

Even if you don’t have tickets for the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, you will not be disappointed. The Canadian Open is returning  yet again  to the same golf course where Rory McIlroy was deemed victorious in 2019. And for the next two years,  the event was shut down  as per COVID protocols. With this unmissable event coming right up, here is how you might watch it from the comfort of your home with your favorite snack and drink.

Can both US and UK viewers watch the event ?

UK viewers would be able to  enjoy the 2024 RBC Canadian Open through Sky Sports Golf. It is considered a destination to “watch all the majors as well as the European, PGA Tours, and Solheim Cup.”   The time zone  that would be  followed by the streaming services would be strictly EDT. The audience can watch the first two rounds on the 30th and 31st  at 5:00 p.m. The last two rounds will be broadcast at 4:30 p.m. on June 1st and 2nd.

On the other hand, the audience can also listen to the PGA Tour radio. It is scheduled to commence from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the first two days. While on June 1  it would be  available  from 2:00 pm onwards, Sunday,  June 2nd  will have it commencing an hour early.

Do you know that last year’s Canada Open came out of a 69-year-old drought? Let us dive into why you should be hyped about this season’s Canada Open.

Would Rory McIlroy win against the Canadian golfers’ goal?

Crazy as it might be before Nick Taylor won last year’s Canada Open, it was only in 1954 that another Canadian won the title. And now, if the 2024 RBC Canadian Open is claimed by another Canadian, it would just be stunning! T he 2024 CJ CUP Byron Nelson winner, Taylor Pendrith, along  with Corey   Conners  and Mackenzie  Hughes,  are already eyeing the trophy. Do you think they would be able to win their country another trophy? It remains to be seen!

To answer that question, one should not rule out the immense possibility of Rory McIlroy’ s precision at winning the Canada Opens. After his 2019 win at the same golf course, he won again in 2022, when the event came out of its two-year-long retirement owing to COVID-19. This season, McIlroy is again in flawless form  after winning the Zurich Classic and the Wells Fargo Championship. He might just win this event too!

Would you want to keep your faith in McIlroy for this upcoming event, or   would you rather cheer for the Canadians to win the trophy? Let us know in the comments below.

6 golfers who've been spotted smoking on the golf course ft. Jack Nicklaus and Charley Hull

O ver the years, many top-ranked golfers have made the headlines in newspapers for smoking cigars or cigarettes on the golf course. Off the course, it is pretty common for players to drink and smoke, although they usually avoid such activities while playing a match. However, not all of them do.

Recently, LPGA Tour player Charley Hull was spotted smoking while signing autographs for fans at the 2024 US Women's Open. It was quite shocking for fans to see her smoke, and they compared her to veteran golfer John Daly .

However, it's not only Daly and Hull who have been seen smoking on the golf course. Over the years, numerous players have been seen smoking on the greens. Here are six golfers who have been spotted smoking on the golf course.

6 golfers who've been spotted smoking on the golf course

#1 jack nicklaus.

Renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus was spotted smoking a cigarette at the 1962 PGA Championship. During the game at Arnomick Golf Course in Newton, a picture of the golfer along with Arnold Palmer was captured by James Drake for Sports Illustrated.

#2 Charley Hull

English golfer Charley Hull was recently spotted smoking on the golf course. While competing at the 2024 US Women's Open, Hull was seen smoking cigarettes during a practice round on Tuesday, May 28, at the Lancaster Country Club. Her pictures went viral on the internet.

#3 John Daly

Veteran golfer John Daly is widely recognized for smoking on golf courses. He has been captured on camera smoking cigarettes several times over the years. He was spotted with a cigarette at the 93rd PGA Championship in 2011.

In 2017, he was seen smoking ahead of the third round of the PNC Championship at The Ritz Carlton Golf Course. In 2019, he was spotted smoking on the 17th green of the University Ridge Golf Course while playing in the first round of the American Family Insurance Championship.

#4 Arnold Palmer

Renowned golfer Arnold Palmer was also known for smoking on the golf course. He was seen smoking at the Aronomink Golf Course in 1962 while playing at the PGA Championship.

#5 Miguel Angel Jimenez

Miguel Angel Jimenez is often seen smoking on the golf course. He enjoys cigars and has been spotted smoking during professional tournaments.

The Spanish golfer was captured on camera smoking at the 2021 BMW PGA Championship, held at Wentworth Golf Club. He even celebrated his victory at the 2014 Open de España by smoking while holding the trophy.

#6 Darren Clarke

Northern Irish golfer Darren Clarke is another golfer known for smoking on the golf course. He has been seen smoking cigars during tournaments several times over the years.

According to Cigar Country, his favorite cigar is the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona. In 2022, he was spotted smoking during the 18th Fairway of the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club while playing at the TimberTech Championship.

RBC Canadian Open betting guide: 6 picks our expert loves this week

  • Follow on Twitter

Our expert likes Sahith Theegala's chances this week.

Getty Images

Welcome to our weekly PGA Tour gambling-tips column, featuring picks from GOLF.com’s expert prognosticator Brady Kannon. A seasoned golf bettor and commentator, Kannon is a regular guest on SportsGrid, a syndicated audio network devoted to sports and sport betting. You can follow on Twitter at  @LasVegasGolfer , and you can read his picks below for the RBC Canadian Open, which gets underway Thursday in Hamilton, Ontario. Along with Kannon’s recommended plays, you’ll also see data from Chirp,  a free-to-play mobile platform  that features a range of games with enticing prizes, giving fans all kinds of ways to engage in the action without risking any money.

Golf bettors and golf enthusiasts are in the middle of what is a very good run of events. It began with the Wells Fargo Championship three weeks ago. The PGA Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge made up the last two weeks on the schedule. This week, we are north of the border for the RBC Canadian Open and then it is on to a Signature Event at Muirfield Village for the Memorial Tournament, followed by the third major of the season, the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Last year, the Canadian Open was one of the more exciting finishes of the entire season when Nick Taylor dropped a 72-foot bomb of a putt for eagle to defeat Tommy Fleetwood on the fourth playoff hole at Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto. Taylor became the first Canadian to win his national open in 59 years. We famously remember fellow Canadian, Adam Hadwin , getting slammed to the ground by a security guard on his way out to the green to congratulate Taylor. Off of that momentum, I expect Canadian fans to be out in full force this year at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario.

Hamilton has hosted the RBC Canadian Open six times in the past, most recently in 2006, 2012 and 2019. Rory McIlroy is in the field this week as the prohibitive favorite and was a winner by seven shots here in 2019 over Shane Lowry.

The course was designed in 1914 by Harry Colt. Immediately following the 2019 edition, Martin Ebert was called upon to perform a massive renovation of the course in an effort to restore some of Colt’s original design characteristics. Hamilton Golf and Country Club plays as a par 70, measuring nearly 7,100 yards. It features narrow, tree-lined fairways, with mounding, undulation, and dog-legs bordered by thick rough. The four par-3s are very challenging with three of the four measuring well over 200 yards. Of the twelve par-4s, seven of them measure between 400 and 450+ yards. The greens are above tour average in size, undulated, and, since Ebert’s renovation, are now pure bentgrass surfaces.

2024 RBC Canadian Open odds: Defending champion is our long-shot pick in Ontario

In addition to the par-3s and the par-4s between 400-450 yards, I looked at Strokes Gained: Approach, Scrambling, and Strokes Gained: Putting (bentgrass). I also emphasized Good Drives and Fairways Gained off the tee as the Canadian Opens of the past held at Hamilton have shown that to be a beneficial skill set. When McIlroy won here in 2019, he was sixth in this field for Driving Distance but also ranked 22nd for Driving Accuracy. If you look at the past tournaments held at this course, Driving Accuracy looks to be a prevalent trend amongst the leaders.

Finding courses that compare to Hamilton Golf and Country Club can be a bit challenging as we have only seen this course a few times in the last 20 years but I have found that the last two Canadian Open venues are comparable, Oakdale Golf and Country Club (2023) and St. George’s Golf and Country Club (2022). I also looked TPC River Highlands (Travelers Championship), Sedgefield (Wyndham Championship), Pebble Beach (AT&T Pebble Beach), Detroit Golf Club (Rocket Mortgage Classic), Silverado (Fortinet Championship), and Port Royal Golf Club (Bermuda Championship). One other course I looked at was Wentworth in England. It is also a Harry Colt design and plays host to the BMW Championship annually on the DP World Tour.

Note that there has been a lot of rain in the area leading up to this event. I expect we’ll see a very receptive course, much like we have witnessed the last two weeks at Valhalla Golf Club and at Colonial Country Club. Scores could be low and birdies will need to be made.

We cashed two top-20 finishes last week with Collin Morikawa and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. Morikawa was the only player in the field who shot all four rounds in the 60s but still could not get to the winner’s circle, settling for a fourth-place finish. We have six outright winner selections this week and I have also played each of them for a top-20 finish.

Sahith Theegala (20-1)

With limited star power in the field this week, I imagine Theegala will be a popular selection. While that is typically something I like to avoid, he is tough to cross off this week’s list. Theegala has really been playing great golf this season, beginning with his win at the Fortinet Championship last fall. Most recently, he was in contention at the PGA Championship, resulting in his seventh top-20 finish of 2024. Over the last 24 rounds, Theegala ranks 22nd in this field for Good Drives Gained, 13th for SG: Approach, No. 1 on the Par 3s, and is second on the Par 4s (400-450 yards). He also ranks fourth in this field for SG: Putting (bentgrass).

Alex Noren (25-1)

Speaking of playing good golf, Noren is one of the hottest players in the world right now, with eight-straight top-25 finishes and no missed cuts this season. He has twice finished top 10 at Detroit Golf Club, was runner-up at Port Royal Golf Club, and has a win and a third place finish at Wentworth. Noren has an excellent short game, ranking second on Tour in Scrambling. In this field, over the last 24-rounds, Noren is 11th for SG: Approach, 12th in Good Drives Gained, and fifth on the 400-450 yard Par 4s.

Aaron Rai (42-1)

In looking at the RBC Canadian Opens played at what I believe are correlated courses, Rai was third last year at Oakdale and 13th in 2022 at St. George’s. He has also finished 14th and runner-up at Wentworth. His putting can be cause for concern but he ought to have plenty of looks as he is seventh on Tour in Hole Proximity, second in this field for Fairways Gained over the last 24 rounds and fifth for SG: Approach. Rai also ranks eighth in Scrambling. The current form looks good as he has made four straight cuts, including a fourth-place finish earlier this month at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

mark hubbard hits a tee shot at the 2024 wm phoenix open

Mark Hubbard (80-1)

Hubbard is likely having the best year of his career. He is yet to miss a cut in 2024 and was in contention at the PGA Championship through the first 36 holes before finishing 26th. He was sixth last year at the Canadian Open at Oakdale and has top-20 finishes or better at the Travelers Championship, Wyndham Championship, Pebble Beach, Silverado, Detroit Golf Club, and at Port Royal. Over the last 24 rounds, Hubbard is ninth in this field for Fairways Gained, 28th on approach, and 25th on the Par 4s (400-450 yards). His putting has been a big area of improvement, ranking 26th in this field for SG: Putting (bentgrass) over the last 24 rounds. It feels like his first-ever Tour win is coming soon, and this venue against this field just might be the right spot.

Daniel Berger (80-1)

I’ve been waiting to see when the right time might be to jump back in on Berger, who, prior to reemerging in January of this year, missed roughly 19 months on Tour with back injuries. He may be starting to turn the corner as he’s made the cut in five of his last six starts.  Remember, before the back issues, Berger was a top player in the world. Maybe he’s ready to show that again this week. Back when Berger was a regular contender on Tour, he twice finished top 5 at TPC River Highlands, three times finished top 10 at Pebble Beach, including a win, and had two top-25 finishes at Silverado. The ball striking looks good as of late as he is fourth in this field for Fairways Gained over the last 24-rounds and 26th for SG: Approach. If his short game follows suit, Berger could make some noise.

Seamus Power (105-1)

Davis Riley took us back to the triple-digit winners having their way on the PGA Tour this season last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge and as I noted earlier, without too much star power in this field, we could be in for another long bomb this week. With that, I’m going to give Power a shot. He has top-25 finishes at both the Travelers and Wyndham Championships. He has top-10 and top-15 finishes at both Pebble Beach and Detroit Golf Club, and was a winner at Port Royal Golf Club for the Bermuda Championship in 2022. He’s very solid in the stats this week, ranking 21st for Fairways Gained over the last 24 rounds, 14th in SG: Approach, and 21st in Scrambling. Power finished 12th against a Signature-status field last month at the RBC Heritage and was 16th three weeks ago at the Wells Fargo Championship, another Signature Event. As is the case for Rai and Berger, if the putter shows up, Power ought to be in the mix.

Sunday's golf: Davis Riley gets 1st individual PGA Tour win at Colonial

Fort Worth, Texas — Davis Riley shot even-par 70 while playing in the final group Sunday with Scottie Scheffler, and still won a subdued Colonial by five strokes over the world's No. 1 player and Keegan Bradley for his first individual victory on the PGA Tour.

Riley finished at 14-under 266 after rolling in a 6-foot par putt on the final hole. Bradley had a closing 67, and Scheffler shot 71 on a day when he hit only seven of 14 fairways and didn't have a birdie until the 13th hole.

After beginning the final round with a four-stroke lead, Riley gave up a stroke with a bogey on the second hole when he drove into the right rough and then hit into the bunker. But that was the closest Scheffler — or anybody else — would get with wind gusts of 20 mph and more blowing throughout the day.

The 27-year-old Riley's only other PGA Tour win came when he and Nick Hardy won the Zurich Classic team event in New Orleans last year. The Mississippi native's win at historic Colonial, which had been completely restored since last year's tournament, earned him $1.638 million, the traditional winner's plaid jacket and a fully restored and modernized 1975 Stingray car.

The final round was played on the same day that Grayson Murray's parents said their 30-year-old son took his own life Saturday , a day after the two-time Tour winner had cited illness when withdrawing from the event with two holes left in his second round. The family had insisted to PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan for play to continue at the Charles Schwab Classic.

Bradley, who has already won twice this year, was at 10 under after a 4-foot birdie at the 17th hole. But he missed a similar-length chance to save par at No. 18 after his tee shot and approach both ended up in the right rough.

Collin Morikawa, the only player in the field to finish all four rounds under par, was fourth at 8 under after his closing 68.

Riley curled in a 27-foot birdie at the 229-yard par-3 No. 4 that is the middle of the famed “Horrible Horseshoe” that is still the toughest three-hole stretch on the course. Scheffler bogeyed there and again at No. 5 after his into the right rough running parallel to the Trinity River.

While Riley closed out the front nine with a 9-foot birdie putt, he was six strokes ahead of Scheffler.

Scheffler was playing close to his Dallas home a week after his arrest in the morning darkness before his second round of the PGA Championship, when police were investigating a pedestrian fatality and arrested – and briefly jailed – Scheffler for not following traffic directions.

After tying for eighth at Valhalla, Colonial was the 11th top-10 finish in Scheffler's 12 tournaments this year. Before the PGA Championship, he had taken three weeks off for the birth of his first child after back-to-back wins at the Masters and the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head.

It was Scheffler's third consecutive top-three finish at Colonial, even after an opening 72 that was the first time this season he failed to break par in a first round. That also included his first triple-bogey of the season, when his tee shot at the par-3 13th hole went into the pond fronting that raised green.

No. 13 was Scheffler's first birdie Sunday, but he was still seven strokes back at that point. After the triple on Thursday, he had played 44 consecutive bogey-free holes – including rounds of 65 and 63, until Nos. 4 and 5 on Sunday.

Soudal Open

Nacho Elvira’s favored 2-iron cracked in the warmup. He was soaked by a brief torrential downpour. He saw his four-shot overnight lead wiped out after 10 holes.

Nothing was coming easy for the Spanish golfer as he tried to secure his second European tour title at the Soudal Open on Sunday in Antwerp, Belgium.

In the end, he just about did enough.

Elvira parred his final seven holes to hold on for a one-stroke victory in Belgium on Sunday and a first victory in three years.

“Such a relief,” the No. 217-ranked Elvira said in what proved to be a tearful post-round interview.

Elvira closed with an even-par 71 to finish on 18 under overall at Rinkven International Golf Club and was almost denied by Denmark’s Niklas Norgaard, who had a birdie putt from about 12 feet at No. 18 to force a playoff.

Norgaard missed it right and had to settle for a 68 and a tie for second place with home favorite Thomas Pieters (66) and Romain Langasque, who birdied the last for a 68.

Joe Dean, an Englishman who resorted to delivering groceries earlier this year to make ends meet, started the final round in second place and was tied with Elvira after his opening nine holes. Dean faded, though, shooting 1 over on his back nine for a 69 and a tie for fifth.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
