Car and Van Hire in Tours

Welcome to Enterprise Tours page where you will find a wide range of vehicles to choose from to fit exactly what you are looking for at great rates.

Car and Van rental in Tours

Tours is a city in the centre of western France, on the River Loire. It has a population of 135,000 and is home to the Francois Rabelais University, whose students contribute enormously to the social and cultural life of the city. Historically, Tours was part of the Roman Empire in the first century, and later a stopping-off point for the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. During World War I, a garrison was established in the city, which later during World War II was heavily bombed, with the loss of many historical buildings. Today, Tours is the tourist hub for the Loire Valley, with its many chateaus. It has an oceanic climate, with temperatures reaching the low 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months. Unusually for this part of France, buildings in the traditional style are not topped with terracotta tiles; instead, white walls have roofs of blue slate. Our Vehicles for hire in Tours

With Enterprise, you have a great choice of vehicle. For fuel economy and getting around town, it's hard to beat a nippy hatchback. If you want an elevated driving position so that you can get a great view of the countryside you are driving through, then a sport SUV might be just the thing. Travelling with a large family or party of adults can be problematic on public transport, when everyone may have to separate for the journey. An MPV means you can travel together in style. Enterprise work hard to put all their vehicles through a regular maintenance schedule, also ensuring that their vehicles are clean both inside and out by the time they are collected. Check out Enterprise cars .

Cheap Car and Van Hire in Tours

Please don't be misled by the heading. By cheap, we only mean you get a great deal at a very competitive price. You are not just paying to hire a car; you also get Enterprise's first-class service, both on booking and in terms of backup. Browse the Enterprise website 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and book a car at a time that suits you. The best deals can be found online, although Enterprise agents are always happy to speak to you over the phone if you have any questions. You really won't get a better deal.

Airport Car Hire

Enterprise aspire to open an outlet at every airport in the world and already have many airports covered, including Tours. The convenience of alighting from your plane and going directly to collect your hire car has much to be said for it, especially when the nearest bus stop is a 10-minute walk away, as it is at Tours. No need either to worry about those often difficult, not to say expensive commutes between the airport and your destination – just collect the car keys and you can be on your way in no time. With Enterprise, you also know that the vehicle you booked will be ready for you, valeted inside and out.

Attractions in Tours

Tours is a historical city, so there is much to see. The medieval quarter or Le Vieux Tours is a great place to sit and take refreshment in one of the many cafes and bars that line the central square. Visit the Gothic cathedral dedicated to St. Gatien, and take a break in La Gloriette Park, which has its own free adventure playground. The Basilica of St. Martin of Tours dates from the 19th century, although it was built on the site of a much older church. The Basilica houses the tomb of its eponymous saint.

Places to Visit Outside Tours

Angers is just over an hour's drive from Tours. It was a bastion against Brittany during the Hundred Years' War. Today, it is a student city with a busy nightlife and some great restaurants along St Laud. The Prince Museum focuses on classical antiquity and there is also an Air Museum. Orleans, 77 miles from Tours, draws visitors due to the number of castles in its vicinity. This was home to Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orleans, and you can visit her house. Her feast takes place each May, with festivities that include a large medieval market.

Parking and Traffic Information in Tours

Drivers should do their research before driving in any foreign country. Capable, confident motorists should have no problems navigating Tours and its surrounding area, but they must observe both national and regional traffic regulations, and ignorance is not an excuse. When planning to drive in Tours itself, learning how the traffic flows, and where bus lanes, other restricted zones and one-way streets are is a must. It is always advisable to travel outside the peak rush hours. There are numerous car parks in Tours, although the underground Vinci Carpark between the railway station and the Halles Market is reputed to be the easiest to access.

8 Day Private Tour in Morocco

My husband and I had a wonderful 8 day visit in Morocco. Customer service with Experience It Tours is exceptional. They provided all the information we needed to prepare us for our visit, along with designing a private tour to places WE wanted to see. Our driver, Ryad, was excellent, personable and shared tips to keep us healthy and safe. We chose 4 star accommodations in the medinas which were beautiful, spacious and clean with very good food. The guides we had were all extremely knowledgeable and delightful to tour with. We would surely use the services of Experience IT Tours again.

Reply from Experience It Tours

Thanks Maryetta for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that you and your husband had an exceptional experience and that Ryad, along with our team, could make your Moroccan adventure both memorable and enjoyable. We'd love to have you back again. Jeff (CEO / Founder)

100% positive experience

Easy to work with and organize a customized tour. Excellent recommendations for add ons. They arranged for an excellent knowledgable driver. They arranged excellent riads and meals and tour guides. The trip was stress free and so enjoyable.

Date of experience : June 03, 2024

Thanks so much for your very kind words about your Morocco trip. I love hearing that the trip was "stress free and so enjoyable."

I found ExperienceIt Tours on the web under tours in Morocco and the treatment our group of 8 women received was extraordinary. Our request for a customized, shortened and less expensive 10 day tour was accommodated without grief. A few stops were eliminated from the typical 11 day tour, but we saw and learned so much! From calls to Lorre and Amy before our departure with multiple and varied questions from a number of us, to pick up and drop off at the airport, we rightfully felt well cared for. Everywhere we went we felt safe as Mohamed Labboussi, our guide was with us. Mohamed was so proud of his country, and knowledgeable about its interesting history and geographic diversity. Professional, serious about his role as our educator but with a lovely sense of humor, we ALL grew very fond of him. Mohamed intervened if “necessary” with unusually pesky salesmen or beggars. He was always kind but firm in these instances, and was most charitable. Each riad was unique and beautiful. We wanted for nothing. We saw sites in Casablanca, Rabat and Sale, Fes, and in a circle clockwise around Morocco, ending in Marrakesh. I loved it all. I recommend ExperienceIt Tours without the slightest reservation. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Date of experience : May 13, 2024

Thanks Amy for your kind words and detailed feedback! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your customized tour through Morocco with ExperienceIt Tours. Mohamed will be delighted to know he made a lasting impression on your group. Your positive experience with our team, from Lorre and Amy to the unique riads, is exactly what we strive for. We're grateful for your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon! Jeff (CEO / Founder)

Our adventure in Morocco was truly…Amazing

Our adventure in Morocco was truly unforgettable. Morocco offers a plethora of experiences, from the stunning places to the rich culture, but it was the people that truly made our trip special. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and made our journey truly exceptional. Specially Mohamed! What a great guy! Choosing Experience it Tours was a decision that truly elevated our trip. Their friendly staff went above and beyond to ensure our experience was nothing short of amazing. Their hospitality and service were truly top-notch, even when things didn't go as planned. If I had one suggestion, it would be to offer a bit more variety in dining options. While Moroccan cuisine is delicious, a few more international restaurants could enhance the dining experience. Thank you for an incredible vacation, and I can't wait to plan another adventure with you in the future!

Date of experience : June 06, 2024

Thanks Carlos for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that your adventure in Morocco was unforgettable and that our guides, especially Mohamed, made your journey exceptional. Your feedback about dining options is helpful, and we'll certainly consider it for future trips. Our goal is to always try to improve. We can't wait to help plan your next adventure with Experience It Tours! Safe travels and see you soon! Jeff (CEO / Owner)

Incredible!

My husband and I can't stop talking about our recent tour of Morocco...and we do want to return! EIT's pre-trip communications were astonishingly good - and both my husband and I had careers in travel. The riads and hotels were great, and like each stop on the itinerary, were all so unique. Abdul our driver was superb. We also had a dedicated guide, Rachid, who is a very genuine, kind gentleman. His love of his country and countrymen showed in his eagerness and enthusiasm to share the beauty, culture, creativity, craftsmanship and harmonious diversity of his beloved Morocco. There are 4-stars only because we felt we could have had greater preparation for what to expect and what we'd see on each following day and perhaps more interaction with the group to assess specific interests and any concerns. And my own private wish: that we'd had an extra day at each destination to absorb it all!! It was an incredible trip that I'd do again in a second.

Date of experience : April 16, 2024

Thanks Alexandra for your review of your Morocco trip. I am glad that it was an incredible trip. Thanks so much for the feedback regarding the daily preparation and expectations...I assume you are talking about the guide (not the EIT admin team). I will follow up with our team on the ground to make sure this is communicated. I am glad you enjoyed Morocco...the riads and each stop. Thanks again for choosing EIT. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

Morocco - An amazing nation

Morocco is a fascinating country and the customized tour by Experience It Tours was amazing. The Riads we stayed in were excellent and the meals provided were tasty and filling. The one night in the Sahara desert camp, the camel ride to view the sunset over the sand dunes were a once in a lifetime experience. We covered spectacular historic sites, palaces and buildings with incredible architecture, natural wonders like Atlas Mountains, lush green oasis in the middle of barren cliffs, canyons and of course the Sahara Desert. There are even film studios! The entire tour was planned and executed meticulously by the tour company. Our guide was knowledgeable and along with the driver they went out of their way to make our experience pleasant and memorable. Shopping was also great and our guide took us to stores that were reasonable and sold quality products ranging from carpets to leather and ceramic products. And yes, one needs to bargain which can be fun. From the airport pickup to drop-off things went smoothly.

Date of experience : May 11, 2024

Thanks Sourav for your kind review of your Morocco tour. I love hearing that the "entire tour was planned and executed meticulously". I agree that the Sahara experience is a once in a lifetime experience. Thanks for allowing us to serve you in Morocco. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

Morocco trip 2024

This is the second trip to Morocco we have had organized by Experience It Tours. Both times we have enjoyed a wonderful time taking in the delights of Morocco. The riads we had selected worked really well, except for one, the Al Walid, on this last trip. The hotel had been good on the first trip but gone downhill by the second. Experience It Tours helped us replace it for our last stop. The guides in each place we visited were excellent and very knowledgeable. The driver this time was a little aggressive but after he was asked to temper his driving he drove at a more sedate pace so we could see the scenery and not his driving. To be fair he was apologetic and thanked us the advice. He proved a good source of information and help. In all Experience It Tours lived up to our expectations.

Date of experience : May 01, 2024

Thanks George for your honest review of your 2nd trip to Morocco. I am sorry to hear about the Al Walid & the driver situation...but I am glad that they were all resolved quickly. We love feedback because it makes our tours even better for future guests. Thanks so much for choosing to come back to Morocco with us. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

The Company You Will Want to Travel the World With!

When we decided to travel to Morocco, I immediately began an internet search seeking travel advice. What an amazing stroke of good luck to find Experience It Tours on my first pass! My husband and I had one terrific experience after another traveling for two weeks throughout Morocco this spring! Their driver Youssef became like a brother to us. There is a reason Experience It Tours is highly regarded in Morocco—they are so personable and they are simply the best!

Date of experience : May 16, 2024

Thank you Donna so much for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear that you and your husband had such an incredible time exploring Morocco with us, and that Youssef made your journey even more special. Your kind words truly mean a lot to us. Jeff (CEO/ Owner)

14 Day Morocco Tour

Booked Experience it Tours for a 14 day Morocco tour and we couldn't have made a better choice. It was well planned, the Mercedes Vito comfortable for the 4 of us senior girls, the driver excellent and attentive to our every need and the guides at every destination the best. The Riads booked were beautiful, the rooms a dream, the food excellent and the service in all of them exceptional. All in all, everything was perfect and worth what we paid for and more.

Date of experience : April 17, 2024

Thanks for your kind review of your Morocco tour. I love hearing that "everything was perfect". That is what we shoot for. I am glad you 4 ladies enjoyed your riads, driver and excellent food. Thanks for choosing our company. Jeff (CEO / Founder)

The Most Exotic and Safe Holiday

Experience It Tours let us plan our own trip and they got the riads, tour driver and guides for us. Everything they did for us was safe, beautiful and fun. We had excellent riads, food, guides and a very experienced driver. We felt safe at all times and relaxed, but in awe, of all the medinas, architecture and geography that we were able to experience.

Date of experience : April 09, 2024

Thanks Landra for your review of your Morocco tour. I am so glad that you felt safe the entire time. Morocco has worked very hard to keep their visitors safe. I love hearing that it was “beautiful and fun”. Thanks for choosing Morocco and our company. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

Awesome... simply Awesome !!

Initial dealings with administration was smooth, efficient and informative. Our contact persons that helped us plan our trip were extremely helpful and patient. Morocco is a unique, exotic and entrancing country. Our guides' communication skills enhanced our experience at each cities and towns we visited. Our driver, Rashid, was outstanding. He made sure we were comfortable, informed and timed our rest stops perfectly. He would stop at appropriate sites to take photos and made sure our lunch and dinner locations clean and provided efficiently service and delicious meals. We have travelled all over the world and honestly found Experience it Tours the best.

Date of experience : April 22, 2024

This is one of our favorite trips we've taken, and from start to finish Experience It made the journey worry-free and exceptional. If you're going to Morocco, we'd highly recommend using Experience It Tours to help plan your itinerary and secure a driver. They set up a route and schedule that really maximized what were able to see and do during our 10 days in Morocco. Wonderful trip over Christmas

We had a marvelous trip planned by experience it tours! We traveled over Christmas and New Years ‘23-‘24. EIT worked with us to customize a great itinerary given our limited travel time. We went to Chefchaouen, fez and Marrakech. The key to our great time was our fabulous driver and tour guide, Magid, who helped educate us along our journey, Tee’d up other experiences, and made sure everything was taken care of for us.

Date of experience : December 22, 2023

Thanks Lindsey for your review of your Christmas trip to Morocco. I am so glad to hear that Magid took great care of you and helped the tour run smoothly. Thanks for choosing our company for your Morocco experience. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

Look No Further for Morocco Trip

If you’re looking for a fabulous experience in Morocco, look no further. No, this is not an ad written by a big agency, just a very satisfied, happy tourist. I found Experience It Tours while searching here and on other travel sites, reading reviews, evaluating itineraries and weighing fees. I decided to go with EIT and a few weeks later discovered a couple of well travelled friends were also traveling with EIT, cementing my decision. It’s a bit questionable just trusting online reviews with no personal referrals, but it was definitely the right choice for me and my travel companion. The company was very professional and helpful every step of the way. They provided excellent information while planning our itinerary and answered each question in a timely manner. Lorre was our agent and the suggestions she made for our trip were right on. We stayed in beautiful riads, enjoyed excellent meals and had very informative city guides who taught us so much. However the best part of our trip was our driver, Tarik Oukhlil. His driving was safe…that’s the first measure. While traveling through the Atlas Mountains in the thickest fog and rain, we felt very safe, as well as his navigating the heavy traffic in Rabat, Marrakech and Casablanca. He surprised us with a lovely nature sojourn and had all the answers to our many questions. He was knowledgeable, fun and loaded with patience for the two old ladies with whom he was sharing his beautiful country. We felt very safe throughout our trip even while walking through crowded Medinas. We had an excellent cooking class, enjoyed our camel ride sunset and loved the hilly streets of Chefchaouen but Tarik was the key to our successful and memorable trip. He was always there, ready with a fresh bottle of water and the ever important WiFi connection in his very comfortable car! A final note on EIT, when I left my old travel pillow at our last hotel, they made sure to pick it up and get it back to me in California. Prepare yourself for a very special trip. 💋💋

Thank you so much for your glowing feedback! We are absolutely delighted to hear that your experience with Experience It Tours was nothing short of fabulous. It’s wonderful to know that our services met your expectations from the very first interaction to the end of your trip. As the CEO, I love hearing that Lorre was able to assist you in planning an itinerary that perfectly suited your preferences & that Tarik offered exceptional service. They are amazing. We're also glad to hear that little touches like the availability of fresh water and WiFi in the car contributed to your comfort, and that we could assist in reuniting you with your travel pillow. Thank you for choosing and trusting our company. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

We had an exceptional holiday

We had an exceptional holiday, a wonderful driver who took care of our party of 4, great accommodation at different riads and very interesting local guides. We asked to do a couple of different things during our trip, such as visit a winery, and our driver just made it happen. Nothing was a problem for him, we felt very safe. Can highly recommend Experience IT to plan and manage your holiday in Morocco. Thanks Brian and your team! Many happy memories.

Date of experience : September 04, 2023

Thanks Leanne for your review of your "exceptional holiday" in Morocco. It was a pleasure to serve you. I am glad to hear that your driver "just made it happen". Thanks for choosing our company for your Morocco tour. Jeff (CEO / Owner)

We had a wonderful trip around Morocco

We had a wonderful trip around Morocco! The tour was specifically planned around our timeline and flawlessly executed by our private driver Rachid. He was very caring about our safety, comfort and enjoyment. He was very knowledgeable and a true gentleman. It was a wonderful experience, highlighted by the sunset trip on camel to our desert camp!

Date of experience : September 19, 2023

Thanks Jill for your very positive review of your "wonderful trip around Morocco." The sunset camel trek is one of my favorite things too. Glad Rachid took great care of you. It was a pleasure serving you. Jeff (CEO / Founder)

We thoroughly enjoyed our 14 day road…

We thoroughly enjoyed our 14 day road tour of Morocco...made all the more enjoyable and memorable by our driver Youseff.....he was very knowledgeable and imparted so much interesting information about the places we visited...his English was perfect and he had such a great sense of humour and was a great and experienced driver. We would highly recommend Morocco Tours to help you plan your ‘tailor made to your requirements’ trip to Morocco. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Ingrid and Juri

Date of experience : October 06, 2019

Thank you so much Ingrid and Juri for telling us about your 14 day trip to Morocco! So glad that Youssef took such good care of you, and that you were able to custom design your trip. It was our pleasure to serve you.

I can't say enough good things about…

I can't say enough good things about your experience with this company. Good communication all around, both with the agency and with the driver. It's been a month since we returned and I am still savoring our experiences. Private tour is absolutely the way to go. No stress whatsoever, well attended by our driver Achraf Nouri, who was friendly, knowledgeable and truly made our trip unparalleled. The Riads were an oasis in and of themselves. And yes, prepare for steps and stairs, rooftop relaxation, spa treatments and the kindest people, who are eager for you to love their country. Sights, sounds, tastes and smells... Morocco with Experience it Tours... Highest recommendation!!

Date of experience : September 30, 2023

Thanks Amy for your wonderful review of your private Morocco tour. I love hearing that our whole team, especially Achraf took great care of you. I am glad it was no stress whatsoever. Thanks for the "highest recommendation!" Jeff (CEO / Owner)

Experience it tours reviews, what people are saying about experience it tours.

We all enjoyed our trip very much. My wife and I are lucky to have visited over 80 countries and this trip ranks among the very best. The tour was very well organized, special places to stay and a very knowledgeable driver who seemed to know about half the people in the country. As you well know Morocco is a visually rich environment, I took dozens of photographs on the trip. Thank you for organizing this for us.

The complete itinerary was vast and impressive. From Casablanca to the middle Atlas majestic mountains to the Sahara desert and so on. Our driver, Majid was interesting, knowledgeable and pleasant. Accommodations were excellent. The food was good. I really enjoyed the breakfasts and Majid was interesting. Travelling with my friend, and not with a multitude of other travelers, was a treat. Often travelling in large groups, one can get lost and end up feeling a little left out. Of course, with just 2 guests, we could have all our needs met.

We would recommend Experience It Tours to everyone without any hesitation.

Cynthia & Roger

We took the Fabulous Fortnight tour and the highlights of our trip are the desert and the souk in Marrakech. Our Driver Youssef had excellent knowledge of his country. He was very professional and passionate about telling us about Morocco. Always on time. Very good at anticipating our needs. He followed through with doing what he said. The accommodations in Fes, the desert, Skoura and Marrakech were excellent. The people in each place were very nice and worked to make our stay enjoyable. If we were to go again on this tour, we would add an additional day in Fes and Marrakech.

We would absolutely recommend Experience It Tours to everyone without any hesitation.

Step 2: hone your idea.

Now that you know what’s involved in starting a tour operator business, it’s a good idea to hone your concept in preparation to enter a competitive market.

Market research could give you the upper hand even if you’ve got the perfect product. Conducting robust market research is crucial, as it will help you better understand your customers, your competitors, and the broader business landscape.

Analyze your competitors

Research tour operator businesses to examine their services, price points, and customer reviews.

  • Make a list of tour operator businesses that offer similar services.
  • Review your competitors’ services – their features, pricing, and quality – and marketing strategies.
  • Check out their online reviews and ratings on Google, Yelp, and Facebook to get an idea of what their customers like and dislike.
  • Identify your competitors’ strengths and weaknesses.

This should identify areas where you can strengthen your business and gain a competitive edge to make better business decisions.

Why? Identify an opportunity

You’re looking for a market gap to fill. For instance, maybe the local market is missing an inbound tour operator, or a tour guide business that offers travel agency services as well.

entreprise it tours

You might consider targeting a niche, such as food scene tours or adventure travel tours.

This could jumpstart your word-of-mouth marketing and attract clients right away.

What? Determine your services

You’ll need to determine what kind of tours you want to give. Consider what’s in your area that might be of interest to tourists. Your best bet is to pick a niche that other tour companies are not targeting. You could also offer travel agent services like booking hotel accommodations or flights.

How much should you charge for tours?

Your prices should be based on market prices in your area, but also on your operating costs.

Once you know your costs, use this Step By Step profit margin calculator to determine your mark-up and final price points. Remember, the prices you use at launch should be subject to change if warranted by the market.

Who? Identify your target market

Your target market is likely to be tourists, and the tourists who participate in tours are often older, but it will depend on the type of tours you offer. If your tours are likely to appeal to older tourists, you can market to them on Facebook. However, your best bet is to partner with travel agencies who can promote and book your tours.

Where? Choose your business premises

In the early stages, you may want to run your business from home to keep costs low. But as your business grows, you’ll likely need to hire workers for various roles and may need to rent out an office or a invest in a kiosk to set up in high traffic tourist areas. You can find commercial space to rent in your area on sites such as Craigslist , Crexi , and Instant Offices .

When choosing a commercial space, you may want to follow these rules of thumb:

  • Central location accessible via public transport
  • Ventilated and spacious, with good natural light
  • Flexible lease that can be extended as your business grows
  • Ready-to-use space with no major renovations or repairs needed

Step 3: Brainstorm a Tour Company Name

Here are some ideas for brainstorming your business name:

  • Short, unique, and catchy names tend to stand out
  • Names that are easy to say and spell tend to do better
  • Name should be relevant to your product or service offerings
  • Ask around — family, friends, colleagues, social media — for suggestions
  • Including keywords, such as “tours” or “guided tours”, boosts SEO
  • Name should allow for expansion, for ex: “GlobeStride” or “Boundless Journeys” over “EcoTreks” or “Dive Quest”
  • A location-based name can help establish a strong connection with your local community and help with the SEO but might hinder future expansion

Once you’ve got a list of potential names, visit the website of the US Patent and Trademark Office to make sure they are available for registration and check the availability of related domain names using our Domain Name Search tool. Using “.com” or “.org” sharply increases credibility, so it’s best to focus on these.

Find a Domain

Powered by GoDaddy.com

Finally, make your choice among the names that pass this screening and go ahead and reserve your business name with your state, start the trademark registration process, and complete your domain registration and social media account creation.

Your business name is one of the key differentiators that sets your business apart. Once you pick a name, reserve it and start with the branding, it’s hard to switch to a new name. So be sure to carefully consider your choice before moving forward.

Step 4: Create a Tour Operator Business Plan

Here are the key components of a business plan:

what to include in a business plan

  • Executive Summary: Summarize your tour operator business, highlighting the unique travel experiences you offer and your target market.
  • Business Overview: Describe your tour operator business, including the types of tours you provide, destinations you cover, and the travel niche you specialize in.
  • Product and Services: Detail the tour packages and services you offer, such as guided tours, transportation, accommodations, and any unique experiences or add-ons.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze the demand for travel and tours in your chosen destinations, considering factors like tourism trends, customer preferences, and competitor offerings.
  • Competitive Analysis: Identify other tour operators in your target locations, their strengths and weaknesses, and explain how your tours will differentiate themselves through quality, pricing, or unique experiences.
  • Sales and Marketing: Outline your strategies for reaching and attracting customers, including digital marketing, partnerships with hotels or travel agencies, and promotions to drive bookings.
  • Management Team: Introduce key team members responsible for running the tour operator business, highlighting their experience in the travel industry and customer service.
  • Operations Plan: Describe the logistics of running your tours, including itinerary planning, tour guides, transportation, safety measures, and quality control.
  • Financial Plan: Present financial projections for your tour operator business, including startup costs, revenue forecasts based on anticipated bookings, expenses for tour logistics, and expected profitability.
  • Appendix: Include any relevant documents, such as tour itineraries, partnerships with hotels or attractions, insurance policies, and marketing materials.

If you’ve never created a business plan, it can be an intimidating task. You might consider hiring a business plan specialist to create a top-notch business plan for you.

Step 5: Register Your Business

Registering your business is an absolutely crucial step — it’s the prerequisite to paying taxes, raising capital, opening a bank account, and other guideposts on the road to getting a business up and running.

Plus, registration is exciting because it makes the entire process official. Once it’s complete, you’ll have your own business!

Choose where to register your company

Your business location is important because it can affect taxes, legal requirements, and revenue. Most people will register their business in the state where they live, but if you are planning to expand, you might consider looking elsewhere, as some states could offer real advantages when it comes to tour operator businesses.

If you’re willing to move, you could really maximize your business! Keep in mind, it’s relatively easy to transfer your business to another state.

Choose your business structure

Business entities come in several varieties, each with its pros and cons. The legal structure you choose for your tour operator business will shape your taxes, personal liability, and business registration requirements, so choose wisely.

Here are the main options:

types of business structures

  • Sole Proprietorship – The most common structure for small businesses makes no legal distinction between company and owner. All income goes to the owner, who’s also liable for any debts, losses, or liabilities incurred by the business. The owner pays taxes on business income on his or her personal tax return.
  • General Partnership – Similar to a sole proprietorship, but for two or more people. Again, owners keep the profits and are liable for losses. The partners pay taxes on their share of business income on their personal tax returns.
  • Limited Liability Company ( LLC ) – Combines the characteristics of corporations with those of sole proprietorships or partnerships. Again, the owners are not personally liable for debts.  Here’s how to form an LLC .
  • C Corp – Under this structure, the business is a distinct legal entity and the owner or owners are not personally liable for its debts. Owners take profits through shareholder dividends, rather than directly. The corporation pays taxes, and owners pay taxes on their dividends, which is sometimes referred to as double taxation.  Read how to start a corporation here .
  • S Corp – An S-Corporation refers to the tax classification of the business but is not a business entity. An S-Corp can be either a corporation or an LLC , which just need to elect to be an S-Corp for tax status. In an S-Corp, income is passed through directly to shareholders, who pay taxes on their share of business income on their personal tax returns.

We recommend that new business owners choose LLC as it offers liability protection and pass-through taxation while being simpler to form than a corporation. You can form an LLC in as little as five minutes using an online LLC formation service. They will check that your business name is available before filing, submit your articles of organization , and answer any questions you might have.

Step 6: Register for Taxes

The final step before you’re able to pay taxes is getting an Employer Identification Number , or EIN. You can file for your EIN online or by mail or fax: visit the IRS website to learn more. Keep in mind, if you’ve chosen to be a sole proprietorship you can simply use your social security number as your EIN.

Once you have your EIN, you’ll need to choose your tax year. Financially speaking, your business will operate in a calendar year (January–December) or a fiscal year, a 12-month period that can start in any month. This will determine your tax cycle, while your business structure will determine which taxes you’ll pay.

entreprise it tours

The IRS website also offers a tax-payers checklist , and taxes can be filed online.

It is important to consult an accountant or other professional to help you with your taxes to ensure you are completing them correctly.

Step 7: Fund your Business

Securing financing is your next step and there are plenty of ways to raise capital:

types of business financing

  • Bank loans: This is the most common method but getting approved requires a rock-solid business plan and strong credit history.
  • SBA-guaranteed loans: The Small Business Administration can act as guarantor, helping gain that elusive bank approval via an SBA-guaranteed loan .
  • Government grants: A handful of financial assistance programs help fund entrepreneurs. Visit Grants.gov to learn which might work for you.
  • Friends and Family: Reach out to friends and family to provide a business loan or investment in your concept. It’s a good idea to have legal advice when doing so because SEC regulations apply.
  • Crowdfunding: Websites like  Kickstarter  and  Indiegogo  offer an increasingly popular low-risk option, in which donors fund your vision. Entrepreneurial crowdfunding sites like  Fundable  and  WeFunder  enable multiple investors to fund your business.
  • Personal: Self-fund your business via your savings or the sale of property or other assets.

Bank and SBA loans are probably the best option, other than friends and family, for funding a tour operator business. You might also try crowdfunding if you have an innovative concept.

Step 8: Apply for Tour Operator Business Licenses and Permits

Starting a tour operator business requires obtaining a number of licenses and permits from local, state, and federal governments.

Federal regulations, licenses, and permits associated with starting your business include doing business as (DBA), health licenses and permits from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA ), trademarks, copyrights, patents, and other intellectual properties, as well as industry-specific licenses and permits.

You may also need state-level and local county or city-based licenses and permits. The license requirements and how to obtain them vary, so check the websites of your state, city, and county governments or contact the appropriate person to learn more.

You could also check this SBA guide for your state’s requirements, but we recommend using MyCorporation’s Business License Compliance Package . They will research the exact forms you need for your business and state and provide them to ensure you’re fully compliant.

This is not a step to be taken lightly, as failing to comply with legal requirements can result in hefty penalties.

If you feel overwhelmed by this step or don’t know how to begin, it might be a good idea to hire a professional to help you check all the legal boxes.

Step 9: Open a Business Bank Account

Before you start making money, you’ll need a place to keep it, and that requires opening a bank account .

Keeping your business finances separate from your personal account makes it easy to file taxes and track your company’s income, so it’s worth doing even if you’re running your tour operator business as a sole proprietorship. Opening a business bank account is quite simple, and similar to opening a personal one. Most major banks offer accounts tailored for businesses — just inquire at your preferred bank to learn about their rates and features.

Banks vary in terms of offerings, so it’s a good idea to examine your options and select the best plan for you. Once you choose your bank, bring in your EIN (or Social Security Number if you decide on a sole proprietorship), articles of incorporation, and other legal documents and open your new account.

Step 10: Get Business Insurance

Business insurance is an area that often gets overlooked yet it can be vital to your success as an entrepreneur. Insurance protects you from unexpected events that can have a devastating impact on your business.

Here are some types of insurance to consider:

types of business insurance

  • General liability: The most comprehensive type of insurance, acting as a catch-all for many business elements that require coverage. If you get just one kind of insurance, this is it. It even protects against bodily injury and property damage.
  • Business Property: Provides coverage for your equipment and supplies.
  • Equipment Breakdown Insurance: Covers the cost of replacing or repairing equipment that has broken due to mechanical issues.
  • Worker’s compensation: Provides compensation to employees injured on the job.
  • Property: Covers your physical space, whether it is a cart, storefront, or office.
  • Commercial auto: Protection for your company-owned vehicle.
  • Professional liability: Protects against claims from a client who says they suffered a loss due to an error or omission in your work.
  • Business owner’s policy (BOP): This is an insurance plan that acts as an all-in-one insurance policy, a combination of the above insurance types.

Step 11: Prepare to Launch

As opening day nears, prepare for launch by reviewing and improving some key elements of your business.

Essential software and tools

Being an entrepreneur often means wearing many hats, from marketing to sales to accounting, which can be overwhelming. Fortunately, many websites and digital tools are available to help simplify many business tasks.

You may want to use industry-specific software, such as  Flybook , FareHarbor , or Resmark , to manage your bookings, email communications, and customer lists.

  • Popular web-based accounting programs for smaller businesses include Quickbooks , Freshbooks , and Xero .
  • If you’re unfamiliar with basic accounting, you may want to hire a professional, especially as you begin. The consequences for filing incorrect tax documents can be harsh, so accuracy is crucial.

Create a website

Website development is crucial because your site is your online presence and needs to convince prospective clients of your expertise and professionalism. You can create your own website using services like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace . This route is very affordable, but figuring out how to build a website can be time-consuming. If you lack tech-savvy, you can hire a web designer or developer to create a custom website for your business.

Your customers are unlikely to find your website, however, unless you follow Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices. SEO will help your website appear closer to the top in relevant search results, a crucial element for increasing sales.

Make sure that you optimize calls to action on your website. Experiment with text, color, size, and position of calls to action such as “Book Now”. This can sharply increase purchases.

Here are some powerful marketing strategies for your future business:

  • Leverage Social Media Influencers: Collaborate with travel influencers on platforms like Instagram and YouTube to showcase your tour packages, tapping into their engaged audiences and fostering trust through authentic experiences.
  • Run Targeted Online Ads: Utilize platforms like Google Ads and social media advertising to target specific demographics interested in travel, ensuring your ads reach potential customers who are more likely to engage with your tours.
  • Create Compelling Visual Content: Invest in high-quality photos and videos of your tour destinations, sharing them across social media, your website, and promotional materials to evoke emotions and entice potential customers.
  • Implement Referral Programs: Encourage satisfied customers to refer friends and family by offering incentives such as discounts or exclusive perks, amplifying your customer base through word-of-mouth marketing.
  • Collaborate with Local Businesses: Partner with local hotels, restaurants, and other businesses to cross-promote services, creating mutually beneficial relationships that expand your reach within the travel community.
  • Host Virtual Tours: Capitalize on the growing trend of virtual experiences by offering online tours or live-streamed previews, allowing potential customers to get a taste of your offerings before committing.
  • Optimize for Local Search: Ensure your business appears in local search results by optimizing your Google My Business profile, collecting positive reviews, and providing accurate information, making it easier for customers to find and choose your tours.
  • Offer Limited-Time Promotions: Create a sense of urgency by periodically offering limited-time promotions or exclusive deals, encouraging potential customers to book your tours sooner rather than later.
  • Attend Travel Expos and Events: Participate in travel expos and events to showcase your offerings directly to an audience interested in travel, allowing you to engage with potential customers face-to-face and establish personal connections.
  • Focus on Customer Experience: Prioritize exceptional customer service and personalized experiences to build a positive reputation, as satisfied customers are more likely to become repeat clients and ambassadors for your business.

Focus on USPs

unique selling proposition

Unique selling propositions, or USPs, are the characteristics of a product or service that sets it apart from the competition. Customers today are inundated with buying options, so you’ll have a real advantage if they are able to quickly grasp how your tour operator business meets their needs or wishes. It’s wise to do all you can to ensure your USPs stand out on your website and in your marketing and promotional materials, stimulating buyer desire.

Global pizza chain Domino’s is renowned for its USP: “Hot pizza in 30 minutes or less, guaranteed.” Signature USPs for your tour operator business could be:

  • Discover the extraordinary with our immersive and personalized tours
  • Leave no stone unturned with our comprehensive and authentic tour itineraries
  • Discover the hidden gems with our knowledgeable tour guides

You may not like to network or use personal connections for business gain. But your personal and professional networks likely offer considerable untapped business potential. Maybe that Facebook friend you met in college is now running a tour operator business, or a LinkedIn contact of yours is connected to dozens of potential clients. Maybe your cousin or neighbor has been working in tour operator businesses for years and can offer invaluable insight and industry connections.

The possibilities are endless, so it’s a good idea to review your personal and professional networks and reach out to those with possible links to or interest in tour operator businesses. You’ll probably generate new customers or find companies with which you could establish a partnership.

Step 12: Build Your Team

If you’re starting out small from a home office, you may not need any employees. But as your business grows, you will likely need workers to fill various roles. Potential positions for a tour operator business include:

  • Tour Guides – give tours, customer service
  • Marketing Lead – create and implement marketing strategies
  • General Manager – scheduling, accounting

At some point, you may need to hire all of these positions or simply a few, depending on the size and needs of your business. You might also hire multiple workers for a single role or a single worker for multiple roles, again depending on need.

Free-of-charge methods to recruit employees include posting ads on popular platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, or Jobs.com. You might also consider a premium recruitment option, such as advertising on Indeed , Glassdoor , or ZipRecruiter . Further, if you have the resources, you could consider hiring a recruitment agency to help you find talent.

Step 13: Run a Tour Operator Business – Start Making Money!

The tourism industry has bounced back in a big way since the pandemic, so now could be a great time to start a tour operator business. It’s an exciting way to share the highlights of your area, have some fun, and make some money. You could eventually hire a whole team of tour guides to take your business to the next level.

Now that you understand the business, you’re ready to plan your itineraries and get your successful tour operator business on the road!

Day 1 casablanca.

As you land in the airport in Casablanca, you’ll be full of anticipation for the coming two weeks of all-you-can-imagine adventure in Morocco. The full realization of your trip might only sink in when you see your welcoming driver waiting for you. The driver is part of what makes Experience It Tours different. They are always said to be one of the best parts of the experience because they help you see the real Morocco.

Imagine hearing the words “Welcome to Morocco” after weeks of tailoring your dream vacation…

He’ll take you to your hotel to get settled in.

If arrival time permits, you’ll then get to go see the Hassan II, one of the largest mosques in the world. The mosque will awe you with its size and incredible architecture.

From the outside, you’ll inhale the salty ocean air and be transfixed by the 210-meter exquisite minaret. The mosque sits over the Atlantic Ocean because King Hassan II considered God’s throne to be on the water. You’ll be able to see the meticulously designed interior during your guided tour. This is a building of which Casablanca can be proud, and you’ll be glad to have seen.

DAY 2 CASABLANCA/RABAT/CHEFCHAOUEN

Imagine waking up for your first full day of your custom-designed journey to Morocco. You will leave Casablanca after breakfast towards Chefchaouen, the famous blue city in the Rif Mountains.

You will pause along the way to see the coastal city of Rabat. Rabat, an imperial city, is not as touristy as some other places you’ll visit, so you’ll get a small taste for local urban life with your stop there.

You’ll savor lunch in Rabat before moving on to Chefchaouen. These car rides are an ideal opportunity to relax, get to know your driver and ask him what he loves the most about Morocco. Ask him what you shouldn’t miss out on in Morocco!

Picture a city where almost everything is a cool shade of blue… You’ll feel like you are underwater or walking through a different world! The vibrant icy-blue doors will have you taking out your camera to snap photos immediately. You’ll be happy to know that you have a full day in this magical place tomorrow.

DAY 3 CHEFCHAOUEN

You’ll devote the entire day to exploring this blue town tucked away in the mountains.

You’ll be able to wander through the enchanting streets and feast your eyes on the color all around you!

No matter what your level of experience with photography is, this town will be heaven for you! Our past photography clients have LOVED shooting pictures in this artsy setting.

Stop for delicious fresh bread, Chefchaouen fish tagine and hot mint tea as you tour this town. You’ll enjoy shopping in the small souks. Chefchaouen is especially well known for its leather goods. Hear about the fascinating history of this town from your guide or take a hike in the breezy mountains!

DAY 4 CHEFCHAOUEN/VOLUBILIS/MEKNES/FES

Because of its unique beauty, Chefchaouen is a hard town to leave. Fortunately, the next stops are just as interesting! After breakfast, you’ll head to Meknes. Along the way, you’ll stop at the ancient ruins of Volubillis.

Take a step back in time as you are guided through these 2,000-year-old Roman ruins…

Set in front of green hills, this once busy Roman town is now an incredible historical site that gives a glimpse into the past. Your guide will explain the significance of each building, making this stop the most engaging history lesson you’ve ever had.

You’ll then head to Meknes, an imperial city and UNESCO world heritage site. Stop for lunch there—ask your driver where his favorite stop is! We think lunch is always more delicious when it’s taken at a local stop.

From Meknes, you will drive to Fes. Fes is brimming with tradition and stories if you take the time to observe them. Don’t forget to try the spicy olives sold on the side of the road—be adventurous, this is your special trip!

You’ll spend the whole day exploring the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco, Fes. You’ll want to memorize every single detail of the narrow medina streets so you can share this once in a lifetime experience with your friends and family!

A professional guide will lead you through the turning pathways of this medieval city and explain to you the importance of the places you will visit.

Imagine seeing shops bursting with slippers of every color, sparkling hammered golden plates, a wall of red and brown carpets…

Walk a little further and you’re sure to come across a dazzling mosaic fountain set in the middle of everyday happenings. Smell the fresh bread? Your guide might explain this…every neighborhood has a bakery and fountain.

Your guide will take you to the weavers, where you’ll watch them create beautiful cloth in front of your eyes. Pick out a scarf to wear to the Sahara Desert! Next stop is the tanneries. From a high roof, you’ll look out over numerous vats of dye and learn about the process of leather making.

After a morning of exploration, you’ll be ready to sit down for lunch at one of the best restaurants in the medina. You’ll continue to understand the obsession with Moroccan food as you eat a tasty main meal of tagine or couscous and finish off with some fresh seasonal fruit for desert.

Finish your tour in the afternoon, and then head back to relax at your hotel or riad.

DAY 6 MERZOUGA

You’ll begin making your way south with a long drive to Merzouga today. You’ll get to see a different side of Morocco today—after seeing Morocco’s thriving cities, the rural landscape will be a fun contrast. Drive through the beautiful Atlas Mountains and forests with cheeky monkeys. Have questions about what you’ve experienced so far? Ask your driver! He’ll be happy to give his insight.

About halfway through the journey, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt. You’ll be amazed when you look at the fossils that this town is famous for. Check out the incredible work that the artisans create with these fossils!

Imagine arriving to the dusty pink buildings of the “Gate of the Sahara.” Feel the dry heat and watch the land gradually change into desert…

DAY 7 SAHARA DESERT

You’ll want to use your morning to explore this small, but fascinating desert town. In the afternoon, you will get to cruise across the land to the Sahara sand dunes by four-wheel drive. At first the land will be flat and dusty, but then almost out of nowhere, tall dunes rise up in front of your eyes and fill the horizon.

The ripples in the sand will certainly make you think of water, even though there isn’t any to be seen. In the morning, the sand is cool enough to walk on barefoot, sand squishing through your toes.

Imagine swaying on a camel out into the Berber tents, watching your shadows distort with the curves of the dunes…

You have the option of staying the night out in the tents. Sip mint tea and listen to the lively music before falling asleep out under the stars…

DAY 8 TODRA GORGES

Wake up out in the cool desert and take the camel trek back to your hotel. You’ll then get back on the 4×4 and head back to Erfoud. From there, your driver will take you behind the High Atlas Mountains past clusters of palm trees and Berber villages towards the Todra Gorges.

You will feel small as gigantic walls of grey and amber rock tower on either side of you… Walk up the gorge and enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by such splendor. See how locals live their lives as you come across some shepherds or make your way towards a small town on your walk.

You will stay the night in Boumalne near the Gorges or Ouarzazate before you cross the High Atlas Mountains.

DAY 9 MARRAKECH

Today you will drive to Marrakech, a city that should be on every traveler’s bucket list. Pause your journey to view Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, a massive red clay fortification. This group of buildings was named an UNESCO World Heritage site because of its stunning display of southern Moroccan architecture. You might feel as if you have stepped into a movie—a valid sentiment as Ouarzazate is considered the “film capital of Morocco” and has been used as a set for many movies.

Re-enter Moroccan city life as you drive into Marrakech and find yourself surrounded by action again. Make your way to the famous Djemaa el-Fna, one of the center attractions of Marrakech. Coming alive at night with the local storytellers, entertainers, and mouth-watering barbeque pits, the square is well worth a visit.

Imagine hearing the clanking brass of the water-seller adorned with colorful tassels…you smell spices as you wander through the stalls…

If you want a break from being caught up in the energy, a quiet cup of tea on the terrace of an adjacent café provides a spectacular aerial view of the bustling square.

DAY 10 MARRAKECH

A professional guide will take you through must-see attractions of Marrakech today to help you get the most out of your visit to this world-renowned city.  See for yourself why people are calling it one of the top places to travel in the world…

You’ll be able to browse through the maze of souks in the medina. Try your hand at bargaining for that souvenir you wanted to bring home! You can find any treasure here—from authentic leather to hand-painted pottery to heavy silver jewelry.

Imagine exploring a palace of viziers and the forgotten burial places of a royal dynasty…

Among other interesting stops, you’ll get a tour of the Bahia Palace and Saadian tombs. The Bahia palace, an incredible work of architecture, has been restored from the damage done by servants upon the vizier’s death. The Saadian tombs, once overlooked for years, are now a popular site for visitors to view the ornate tombs of members of the Saadian dynasty.

After a long tour, you’ll be happy to unwind in your calm hotel or riad.

DAY 11 MARRAKECH/ESSAOUIRA

After breakfast, you will set off to the coastal city of Essaouira, a picturesque fishing town, lying on the southwest coast of Morocco. With an exquisite beach to the south, Essaouira has become one of Morocco’s most popular coastal towns. Many of the country’s wood carvers and artists make Essaouira their home, filling Essaouira with incredible art and culture.

There is a bit of a European feel to Essaouira, since it was designed by a Frenchman and has numerous other cultural influences.

You’ll see cheerful blue fishing boats packed together by the port…

Imagine hearing gulls screaming over the thriving fish markets…the waves are crashing on the beach and the old wall that surrounds the city.

DAY 12 ESSAOUIRA

Here’s a day to wander through Essaouira’s open medina, looking at the art and interesting souvenirs. The cobblestone paths are more open than the medina of Fes, making it a clear and relaxing atmosphere.

Whitewashed walls add to the fresh feeling; you’ll be happy that you are finishing up your adventure in Morocco with a slower pace.

You’ll get to walk up on the old fortified wall and see the old cannons as you look out over the oceans. Feel the strong wind on your face—Essaouira is well known for its coastal wind—perhaps inspiring you to give windsurfing a chance?

The small cafes are definitely worth a visit. Drink some strong Moroccan coffee or ask for a fresh pastry as you sit and enjoy your surroundings. After your snack, you’ll want to walk along the beach, feeling the soft sand.

If you want an authentic lunch experience, try a local fish restaurant where you’ll get piles of seafood and delicious Moroccan bread to savor out in the open air.

DAY 13 ESSAOUIRA/ CASABLANCA

It’s hard to believe you will have experienced all of that in only 13 days. You’ll return to Casablanca, where you started this adventure in the beginning. Take this day to soak in the Moroccan atmosphere. Photograph even ordinary sights so that you can try to explain the charm of Morocco to your friends and family when you return.

Enjoy every minute of your last day…

DAY 14 CASABLANCA / DEPART

You will be transferred to the airport for departure. Say goodbye to your driver and the country that has certainly left you with priceless memories.

We hope your journey has been delightful…you are always welcome back to your second home.

History of Ryazan

Foundation of today’s ryazan.

The first settlements arose on the territory of today’s Ryazan as early as the Middle Paleolithic era (from 300,000 to 30,000 years ago). Near the city, in the village of Dubrovichi, archaeologists discovered a flint ax made more than 80 thousand years ago - the most ancient material monument found in the Ryazan region.

Slavic tribes, in this case the Vyatichi, came to the Oka around the 6th century AD. Already in the 7th-8th centuries, a whole network of settlements was founded around the future Ryazan. These people were mainly engaged in arable farming.

Until the middle of the 10th century, the Vyatichi, like several other East Slavic tribal unions, were politically dependent on the Khazar Khaganate (650-969). The Old Russian state played the decisive role in its decline. In 964, Prince Svyatoslav freed the last Slavic tribe of the Vyatichi dependent on the Khazars. The Ryazan and Murom lands were included into the Old Russian state.

The presence of several large settlements on this territory led to the need to create a single military center. In 1095, the town of Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky was founded on a high hill at the confluence of the Trubezh and Lybid rivers.

More Historical Facts…

Ryazan in the 12th-17th centuries

At the beginning of the 12th century, the Ryazan lands separated into an independent Murom-Ryazan principality. It was a time of rivalry between its two largest towns - Ryazan and Murom - for the right to be the capital of the new principality.

As a result, Ryazan, which was located about 50 km down the Oka River from Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky, won, since it was here that the princely court was taking place, the episcopal see was located, feudal unions were concluded, from here the princely troops went on military campaigns. Moreover, Ryazan was well fortified. Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky by this time was one of the fortified outposts of the principality, surrounded by a network of guard posts.

In the winter of 1237, a large Mongol army (tens of thousands of people) approached the walls of Ryazan. This was one of the first episodes of the Mongol invasion of Rus and the western campaign of the Mongols. The town was captured after several days of siege.

The main military forces of the principality were defeated earlier in the battle on the Voronezh River. Ryazan with a population of up to 8 thousand people was completely destroyed. It was never able to recover and soon the few surviving residents left it. Today, this place is known as Old Ryazan. The capital of the principality was moved to Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky.

By the 14th century, Pereyaslavl was finally formed as the capital of the principality. The heart of the town was the fortress (kremlin) with wooden walls and twelve towers. At the beginning of the 15th century, the construction of the Ryazan Kremlin with stone buildings began. In 1611, during the Time of Troubles, Ryazan initiated the convening of the first people’s militia to free Moscow from the Poles. The Ryazan nobleman Prokopiy Lyapunov was elected its head.

Ryazan in the 18th-19th centuries

In 1778, with the formation of the Ryazan Governorship, Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky received the name Ryazan and its own coat of arms depicting the figure of the Prince with a sword in his hand. In 1780, the regular plan of Ryazan was approved.

The ensemble of the Ryazan Kremlin with the beautiful Assumption Cathedral (1693-1699) remained the center of the town. In 1787, an opera and drama theater, one of the oldest in Russia, was opened in Ryazan. By the end of the 18th century, about 8 thousand people lived in Ryazan.

In 1837, a large fire destroyed a lot of wooden buildings. The construction of new stone buildings began, including artillery barracks (the building of the hospital on Pervomaisky Avenue). In 1860, about 21.6 thousand people lived in Ryazan. In 1863, a railway line connected Ryazan with Moscow. Ryazan became a major railway hub. By 1897, the population of the city was 46 thousand people.

Ryazan in the 20th century

In 1913, the city power plant was put into operation. In December 1915, the first female teacher’s institute in the Russian Empire was founded in Ryazan. In 1930, after the liquidation of the Ryazan Governorate, Ryazan became a district center of Moscow Oblast. In 1937, it became the administrative center of the newly formed Ryazan Oblast. In 1939, its population was about 95,000.

In the fall of 1941, during the Second World War, the front line reached the Ryazan region. Ryazan was of great strategic importance, as highways connecting Moscow with the central and eastern regions of the country passed through it. German troops were stopped 30 kilometers from the city.

The rapid development of Ryazan began immediately after the war. The city turned into a large industrial, scientific, and military center of the European part of Russia, home to giant factories that occupied entire urban districts: the Ryazan oil refinery (the largest in Europe), “Ryazselmash” (the only manufacturer of potato harvesting equipment in the USSR), the calculating and analytical machine plant, the heavy forging and pressing equipment plant, the chemical fiber plant, etc.

Several large universities were opened in Ryazan - a medical university, a radio engineering academy, an agricultural institute, and an institute of culture. The military potential of the city was finally formed. Ryazan becomes the main training center for the Soviet Airborne Forces. The city was surrounded by numerous training centers and military training grounds.

Greening became one of the city’s fundamental development strategies. Ryazan was surrounded by green rings of forests and parks. Large parks were laid out in every district of the city. Ryazan was repeatedly declared the winner in greening among the cities of the Soviet Union. By 1987, the city’s population exceeded half a million people.

During the years of Soviet power, the population of Ryazan grew more than fivefold. The city participated in the state program for providing housing to builders of the North - a lot of workers of enterprises located beyond the Arctic Circle subsequently received apartments and registration in the city. Some decline in growth was observed in the 1990s, coinciding with the general demographic decline in Russia. In 1995, Ryazan celebrated its 900th anniversary.

Ryazan - Features

Ryazan, one of the oldest cities in Central Russia, is located in the center of the East European Plain, in the northwestern part of Ryazan Oblast. It is included in the so-called inner ring of large cities located 150-200 km from Moscow.

About 50 km downstream of the Oka River there is a historical and landscape museum-reserve Old Ryazan - the old capital of the Great Ryazan principality. The present city (initially known as Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky) was renamed in its honor in 1778.

The leading local industries are tool making, machine tool building, power engineering, petrochemistry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, building materials industry, woodworking, food and flour-and-cereal industries.

Main Attractions of Ryazan

Ryazan Kremlin - the oldest part of Ryazan, a historical and architectural open-air museum-reserve, an architectural monument of federal importance. The construction of stone fortifications in Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky (today’s Ryazan) began in the 15th century. The main structures built in the 17th century have survived to this day. In total, the Ryazan Kremlin ensemble includes 18 monuments of history and culture of the 11th-19th centuries. You can reach it by any public transport that goes to Sobornaya Square.

Assumption Cathedral (1663-1699) - the main dominant of the Ryazan Kremlin built in the Naryshkin Baroque style. The stylized image of this cathedral is one of the symbols of Ryazan. The Assumption Cathedral and its bell tower are built in such a way that they can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. For a long time, they served as a visual reference point when navigating on the Oka River. Inside there is a magnificent 27-meter iconostasis, consisting of 7 tiers and decorated with stone carvings - a real masterpiece of decorative art.

Nativity of Christ Cathedral - the first stone building on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin and one of the oldest buildings in Ryazan Oblast. The cathedral was founded by the Grand Prince Oleg Ryazansky on the territory of his court at the end of the 14th century. In the 14th-15th centuries, five Ryazan princes and three princesses were buried in the Nativity of Christ Cathedral. As a result of numerous reconstructions, the current architectural appearance of this cathedral combines elements of baroque and classicism.

Palace of Prince Oleg - the largest civil building on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin, which was built in stages over the 17th-19th centuries. Until the 16th century, a princely court with bishops chambers was located here. Today, the premises of the palace house the exposition “From Rus to Russia”, as well as exhibitions “Old Ryazan” and “The Legend of Evpatiy Kolovrat”.

Soborny (Cathedral) Park - a public garden located near the Ryazan Kremlin, where residents and visitors of the city like to stroll in the shade of trees. The most convenient way to get to Soborny Park is from Sobornaya Square, through the front entrance with columns. The main alley of this park leads to the Ryazan Kremlin and the Ryazan Embankment. There are several interesting sights here: the Church of the Savior on Yar, Ilyinsky Cathedral, the monument to Sergei Yesenin, the chapel of the 900th anniversary of Ryazan. It is a place where you can buy Ryazan souvenirs, ride horses.

Ryazan Art Museum named after Ivan Pozhalostin - one of the oldest art museums in Russia. The collection includes about 12,000 works of Russian and Western European art of the late 15th-20th centuries: paintings, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied art, folk art. The collection of Western European art includes paintings by Italian, Dutch, French artists, porcelain from Germany, France, and England.

The collection of Russian art includes Old Russian icons and sculptures, Russian paintings, sculptures and graphics of the 18th-20th centuries, including works by local artists, porcelain, glass, and furniture. A significant section of the collection is the folk art of the Ryazan land: costumes, weaving, embroidery, lace, ceramics, clay toys. Svobody Street, 57.

Museum of the History of the Airborne Forces - the first and largest official museum on this subject. On both sides of the entrance, on the pedestals, you can see combat vehicles, artillery and airborne self-propelled guns. The basis of the exposition is made up of banners of airborne divisions and brigades that participated in the Second World War, examples of Russian and foreign small arms, parachutes, military equipment. Margelova Square, 1. The historical and memorial hall of military equipment and weapons of the Airborne Forces, a branch of this museum, is located at Voyennykh Avtomobilistov Street, 12.

Memorial Museum-Estate of Academician Ivan Pavlov - one of the most famous sights of Ryazan located in its center. The complex consists of picturesque wooden buildings, among which there is a two-storey house of the early 20th century, where the world famous physiologist Ivan Pavlov, the first Russian Nobel Prize winner, lived. Inside, the historic interior was recreated with Pavlov’s personal belongings. Pavlova Street, 25.

Summer Club of the Noble Assembly (1905) - a beautiful wooden house decorated with skillful carvings, the main decoration of the Ryazan City Park. Until 1917, the local aristocracy met here to chat, discuss current events, or just relax on pleasant summer evenings. Today, it houses the center of folk art. Uritskogo Street, 72.

Sculpture “Mushrooms with Eyes” - an interesting sculpture dedicated to the famous Ryazan proverb about mushrooms - “In Ryazan, mushrooms have eyes.” Allegedly, because of this, it is difficult to gather mushrooms in the surrounding forests. The art object depicts a whole family: a father mushroom and his two sons surrounded by forest dwellers. It was installed on the territory of the Lower City Garden in 2013. Lenina Street, 26.

Long-range aviation museum at the Dyagilevo air base . The exposition of this thematic museum and exhibition complex brings together a large number of objects related to the history of the development and use of military aviation of the USSR and Russia: combat aircraft, examples of weapons and equipment, uniforms, equipment, personal belongings and awards of pilots, documents, maps, photographs, etc. It is located about 11 km west of Ryazan. A visit to this museum is possible only as part of an excursion group (5+ people) and by prior arrangement. The tour takes two hours and you can take pictures for free.

Sergei Yesenin Museum-Reserve in Konstantinovo . This museum complex located about 40 km from Ryazan is devoted to one of the most well-known Russian poets of the 20th century. The main building is the wooden house of the poet’s parents, where his personal belongings and old photographs of the family are kept. In the 1980s, a whole ensemble of museum buildings was formed in Konstantinovo, which included the estate of L. I. Kashina with an adjoining park, a village school building, the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and other objects.

Starozhilovsky Stud Farm . It was founded by order of Baron von Dervies in the 1890s. The stud farm building constructed in the Gothic style by the architect Fyodor Shekhtel is of particular interest. Unfortunately, during the Second World War, during the evacuation across the Oka, all the horses died. Today, about 300 horses are kept here. The stud farm is located about 55 km south of Ryazan in the village of Starozhilovo.

The questions of our visitors

The comments of our visitors.

I came to Ryazan in 1990 to fly hot air balloons! We all had great time and your hospitality was wonderful. Our translator was a girl called Olga who later came to visit us, with her mother, in the UK.

I never realised the incredible history of the area when I was there. It was such a short stay. I'm getting older now but will never forget your kindness. Maybe I'll plan another visit!

Great to read your website, I'm glad I found it. When Olga visited she gave us three small glass hedgehogs as a present which I still have and I was trying to find their origin! If you know Olga and mum say hallo from me!
