If you’re going on a cruise out of Tampa and need some helpful advice about the Tampa cruise port, we’ve got you covered.

We’ll start with the gritty details about directions, cruise parking, hotels, and various other information that you should know while making your plans. We’ll even provide some help in getting from the Tampa International Airport to the cruise terminal.

Info About Cruise Terminals

Port Tampa Bay has three terminals for cruise ships. All three have ample parking nearby, complete with valet services available through the port’s official parking vendor, Carpark. Located nearby, and within walking distance from terminal #3 and #6 are the Sparkman Wharf and The Florida Aquarium.

The cruise terminal you sail from will depend on which cruise line you’re traveling with. You should always check with your cruise line to make sure which terminal they are using for your cruise.

• Terminal #3 : Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International
• Terminal #6: Various cruise lines

Port Tampa Bay is located at 1101 Channelside Drive, Tampa, FL 33602. However, each terminal has its own address, so if you are driving directly to the terminal it is important to know what address to use in your GPS or map program.

Port Facilities

The Port Tampa Bay offers a 75-minute Educational Harbor Tours for passengers free of charge on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. You must make reservations for the tour in advance by calling 813-905-7678.

When it comes to official port parking , many ports will charge an outrageous amount ($20 per day and up), simply because of the convenience. This will often force people to look for parking elsewhere so they can save money.

Port Tampa Bay parking is one of the few exceptions to this. Their standard rate for parking is $15 per day, with a flat upgrade of $20 for valet parking. If you have an oversized vehicle, the port charges double the standard rate.

You can pre-pay for parking online as well. Simply visit the port’s webpage on Tampa cruise parking , select the cruise line you’re sailing on, select the date of your departure and you will have 3 options. You can choose self-parking, valet parking, or oversized vehicles parking. Since you selected your particular cruise the system knows how many days you need to pay for. As mentioned earlier it’s a flat rate of $15 per day but sometimes there are promotional rates.

Of course you don’t have to pre-pay for your parking. You can also just show up at the port and pay there, just in case you totally forgot that little detail in the cruise planning process.

Parking is free for the disabled (including disabled veterans) as the following conditions are met:

• Foot and hand control modifications
• Wheelchair lift and ramp
• Disabled Veterans license plate with vehicle registration

Other Off-site Parking Options

Although Port Tampa Bay has some of the best official parking rates, it can weigh a little heavy on some budgets. Therefore, here are a few other parking options near the cruise port that could possibly let your wallet breathe a little easier. Some of these parking lots are so close to the port you can practically walk to your cruise terminal.

Park 4 Cruise

Park 4 Cruise offers parking that is very close to the port of Tampa. The Orange Lot, which is adjacent to all three cruise terminals, is as low as $10.50 per day (plus 7% sales tax and a $4 processing fee). This parking lot is practically on the premises of the port itself, being less than a quarter mile away. Their website says they are only 300 steps to the terminals from their parking lots, so that’s hard to beat. They will also shuttle you for free to and from the Tampa cruise terminal.

241 Car Services

241 Car Services are located as close to the cruise terminals as the port’s official parking lots and at much cheaper rates. Depending on your ship and the length of your cruise, you’re looking at paying roughly $7 to $9 per day, including tax and a $5 service fee.

They will also provide you with free shuttle service and luggage assistance and will give you a free car wash while you’re gone.

Park Connect

Just .3 miles from the Channelside Bay cruise terminal in Tampa, Park Connect has no hidden-fees in their pricing. The cost is $10 per day plus tax and again, there are no service fees. Park Connect offers covered parking areas, free cancellation up to 24-hours before your cruise and an easy to user interface for pre-paying for parking.

Getting to Port Tampa Bay

No matter how you plan to arrive into Tampa, you need a way to get to the port. Driving yourself is easy enough, you just have to find a place to park.

However, if you’re not driving, there are other various ways to get to the port, especially if you’re flying into the Tampa airport.

Getting to the Tampa Bay Port from Tampa International Airport

The cruise port is only 10 miles from the airport and is one of the easiest and most accessible cruise ports in the US. The trip will take 17-20 minutes depending on traffic

While there are taxis available in Tampa, they often charge a flat $30 and up for the short ride from the airport to Port Tampa Bay. If pinching pennies is your preference, consider, instead, using a ridesharing service like Uber or Lyft.

Booking a ride is as simple as downloading the app and choosing a driver. The estimated cost for Uber or Lyft is about $17-$21. But keep in mind that is just an esimate based on the time of the writing of this article.

Cruise Line Transfers

For the sake of convenience, many cruise lines will offer transfers for their passengers from the Tampa airport. Although this is a great service, it can get expensive if you’re traveling with a lot of people. Also, your shuttle is only going to be available on cruise day, so if you fly in the day before you’ll have to seek alternate means of transportation.

Traveling from Orlando

If you live in Orlando, or you decide to fly into Orlando instead and go visit one of the various parks there before your cruise, getting to Tampa for your cruise can be tricky as the two cities are roughly 90 miles apart.

For this we recommend getting a one-way car rental. You should be able to find rates as low as $50-$60 for a car.

If cheaper airfare is the reason you’re considering flying into Orlando, factor in the extra transportation costs between Orlando and Tampa. $100 or more on rental cars (round trip) could end up costing you more than flying into Tampa.

Park & Cruise Hotels Nearby

For those of you that prefer having an extra day or two buffer before or after your cruise, you’re in luck because there are several hotels nearby that offer cruise packages, free parking, or free shuttle service.

Along with a free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi, if you book this hotel’s Park and Cruise package, you’ll receive free roundtrip transportation to the cruise port, as well as parking for up to 7 days.

Residence Inn’s “Fly Here, Cruise There” package provides guests with shuttle service from the hotel to the cruise port, along with free internet and breakfast. This package accommodates 2 people. Additional passengers will cost an extra $10 each.

While staying at this hotel you will enjoy free access to the hotel’s fitness center and various other amenities. They do not have a specific cruise package, but they do offer free parking, as well as a free shuttle to anywhere within a 3 mile radius, which includes the cruise port.

Columbia Restaurant

Located in the heart of the Ybor city district where you’ll find a large Latin community is the Columbia Restaurant. They have been in business since 1905 and they make a mean Cuban sandwich on fresh Cuban bread.

Fourth Street Shrimp Store

If seafood is your style, come on over to the Fourth Street Shrimp Store. Originally just a shrimp store, over the years since it first opened in 1984 it has evolved into one of the best seafood restaurants in Tampa Bay.

Eddie & Sam’s NY Pizza

Featuring the best New York style pizzas anywhere other than New York is Eddie & Sam’s, located on Twiggs St in Tampa. They even use water shipped directly from New York to make the dough more authentic.

Cappys Pizzeria

The only pizza restaurant that can possibly rival Eddie & Sam’s is Cappys, offering the best in both New York style and Chicago deep dish, as well as a variety of salads and subs.

The Brunchery

Busch Gardens Tampa

Anyone who’s ever been to a Busch Gardens knows just how much fun it is. You get to visit some of your favorite countries within the park and each one provides different cultural elements to enjoy. The Tampa Bay Busch Gardens features various countries found in Africa, such as Egypt, Morocco, Nairobi, and so much more.

Additionally, you’ll find some of the best theme park rides here, including the SheiKra, which is only located at the Tampa Bay Busch Gardens. This 200-foot tall floorless dive coaster provides an extreme thrill for anyone willing and able.

Sparkman Wharf

Located within walking distance from the cruise terminals is Sparkman Wharf. Here you will find all you could ever want in dining and shopping, as well as an open-air biergarten that includes over 24 taps of Florida craft beer, all with a breathtaking waterfront view.

The Florida Aquarium

Also within walking distance of the port (on the other side) is the Florida Aquarium for anyone fascinated by underwater creatures. Visit a large variety of animal habitats from otters, sharks, and octopuses, to seahorses and turtles. They house many exhibits, a splash pad for the kids, and a 4-D theater.

Henry B. Plant Museum

Henry B. Plant was the mastermind behind building the Tampa railway system in the 1800s. This, along with the port, helped Tampa to grow into the bustling metropolis that it is today. He also built the Tampa Bay Hotel, which is now the University of Tampa’s Plant Hall, where the museum is located.

If you’re looking for another great place for the family that’s educational and filled with animals, come over to the ZooTampa at Lowry Park. If you come on the weekend, at 1pm you can stand eye-to-eye with a giraffe and feed them some lettuce. You can also visit a variety of other animals, all safely behind glass enclosures.

Tampa Cruise Parking Options, Prices, and Maps (Where to Park)

Headed on a cruise from Tampa Bay? If you are driving into the area for your trip, then of course you need somewhere to park your car.

The good news is that you have plenty of parking options. Whether you want to park right at your ship and pay a little more — or save some serious cash by parking a little further away (and taking a free shuttle) — you’re covered.

And if you plan to stay in the area before your cruise, many Tampa hotels also offer cruise parking packages . These deals allow you to park your car at the hotel while you cruise, in exchange for a night’s stay.

Given the number of options, you might be wondering which parking is right for you. We cover all the details below to help you find the perfect spot to park for your cruise.

Tampa Cruise Parking Options & Prices

Port of Tampa Official Parking The port offers plenty of parking right at the cruise terminals. You have your choice of plenty of spots, two-thirds of which are covered garage parking. (Terminals 2 & 3 are serviced by a garage across the street. Terminal 6 offers an open-air lot at the ship.)

Just as with any other port, you will pay for the convenience of parking right next to the cruise ship. Parking is $15.75 per day. That runs $110.25 for a 7-day cruise.

The port also offers valet parking, which is a good idea for those who have issue walking or simply don’t want to deal with parking themselves. The rate is the same $15 per day, but there is also a $20 convenience fee for a total of $130.25 for a 7-day cruise.

Parking for oversized vehicles (RVs, etc.) is $34.35 per day. The port offers online pre-pay for its lots, which we suggest as it gives you one less thing to worry about once you reach the port. However, if you want to pay at the port, they accept cash, as well as major credit cards (including American Express).

241 Car Services This parking lot is almost as close as the official Port of Tampa parking, but at just a fraction of the cost. Rates run just $8.99 per day. In addition, there are some small taxes and fees associated with booking.

The main parking lot is lighted, fenced, and offers overnight security. And even though the lot is very close to the port, a shuttle is offered. We do recommend booking online ahead of time due to the lot’s small size.

Park 4 Cruise With plenty of competition between parking lots, that’s been good for consumers. Case in point is this company, which now features two lots (one right across from the terminals, one overflow) that can let you park for as little as $10.50 per day, despite being close to the ships.

The Orange Lot is right across from Terminal 6 and offers you cruise parking for considerably less than the $15.75 you’ll pay just down the road at the official port lots. There is also the Purple Lot in case the Orange Lot gets filled. It’s just slightly farther away, but still just a minute or two via the shuttle to the port. Park 4 Cruise is gated and lit, offers 24-hour security, and a shuttle to your terminal.

If you want to park here, it’s a good idea to reserve a spot ahead of time online as it offers a considerable savings off the drive-up rate.

Rightway Parking Rightway Parking offers several different options for cruise passengers that range in price from as little as $5.99 per day to $10.99 per day.

The closest lot is a within a short walk to Terminals 2 & 3, right next to the parking garage offered by the Port of Tampa Bay. The lot is gated, fenced, and offers shuttle to the ships if you don’t want to walk. Rates here start at $10.99 per day plus taxes and fees. ( Note that you are charged for the day you leave , so you’ll pay for 8 days of parking for a 7 day cruise.)

However, Rightway also has other lots listed on its site. This includes lots charging as little as $5.99 per day, with a shuttle to the port. There are some lots that are even less but do not include shuttle service.  Just keep in mind these lots aren’t as close and convenient as the $10.99 per day lot.

Individual Hotels (Tampa Park and Cruise)   If you are staying in the Tampa area, contact your hotel to see if they will allow you to park your car for the length of your cruise. Many hotels cater to cruisers and have special daily parking rates or offer parking packages. If you stay there the night before you cruise, you can then leave your car while you sail. Rates will vary but are generally a sharp discount off the port.

Where should I park for my cruise from Tampa? The good news is that with a number of parking lots right near the port, you can find affordable parking and save a bundle of money. The bad news is that so many options it can be a bit overwhelming. So where should you park?

If you simply worry about convenience, you can’t beat the official port parking. Right next to the terminals, you can simply walk to the ship and then walk back when it’s time to go home. If you want to save money, we’d suggest one of the lots along Channelside Drive, right near the port. 

What’s the cheapest cruise parking lot? While prices may change, the cheapest lot we found was 241 Car Services. This lot is priced at $9 per day, plus taxes and fees. In all, you’d spend about $75 to park for a week at this lot. That’s among the cheapest parking you’ll find not just in Tampa, but any cruise port in the country.

Is there free parking anywhere? Traditional free parking isn’t available near the port. However, many hotels in the area offer cruise parking specials as a way to attract customers. A truly multi-cultural city, Tampa is a great place to choose to sail from as it’s an exciting place that hosts cruise ships year-round from several lines.

The terminals are convenient, parking a breeze, and the city itself home to interesting and unique attractions within a short walk of the port.

Nearby attractions such as Busch Gardens Tampa Bay theme park, the Gulf of Mexico beaches, and all the sights of Tampa itself make for an interesting and affordable pre-or post-cruise visit.

Located on Tampa Bay, Port Tampa Bay is right in the heart of downtown. Interstate 4 connects the downtown peninsula to Tampa International Airport, the beaches just west of the city, and Orlando with its world-famous theme parks and entertainment options. Hotels are plentiful, and the free streetcar makes getting around downtown easy.

Cruise Lines That Sail From Port Tampa Bay

A popular port located on the west coast of Florida, Port Tampa Bay is a year-round homeport for several ships and a growing winter/spring homeport for other lines:

• Carnival (year-round)
• Celebrity (seasonal)
• Norwegian (seasonal)
• Royal Caribbean (year-round)

Itineraries that leave from Tampa offer choices of Western, Eastern, and Southern Caribbean, along with partial Panama Canal transits. Some lines even offer five-night voyages from Tampa to the Bahamas, most of which call at the cruise line’s private island there. Autumn and spring transatlantic voyages also arrive and depart from Tampa every year.

Port Tampa Bay is consistently rated as one of the easiest and most convenient ports in the state of Florida. The port is a major container and shipping center, but also has a popular and growing cruise business, which sail out of three terminals. All three terminals are a short walk from ample parking including garages and surface lots, the Tampa Riverwalk, Florida Aquarium, and Sparkman Wharf.

Ground Transportation   

Tampa is an easy city to navigate through with simple ways to arrive at the port. Options include:

• Cruise ship shuttle service  — These can be booked directly with your cruise line or with your travel professional. They are usually a bus or van which will carry a number of other cruisers heading to the same ship or terminal.
• Rideshare (Uber/ Lyft, etc)  — About $10 each way from Tampa International Airport 
• Taxi  — Flat fare for taxis from Tampa International Airport to Port Tampa Bay is $28, one way.
• Train  — Tampa is served by daily trains to and from Miami and up to New York City. Tampa Union Station is only half a mile from the cruise port, though train schedules usually require spending the night on your embarkation day — which can make for a very pleasant pre-cruise evening.
• Car rental  — Of course, you can rent a car, but if you are flying in it doesn’t make much financial sense as you will pay the parking fees for the duration of your cruise (see below).

How far is Port Tampa Bay from the airport?

One of the most convenient things about Port Tampa Bay is its proximity to Tampa International Airport. Located just over 8 miles away, a trip from the airport to the cruise terminals takes about 15 minutes outside of commuting times and around 30 during rush hours. 

Slightly further away, across Tampa Bay in Pinellas County, is the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. As a hub for ultra-low cost carrier Allegiant Airlines, it could definitely be a cost saver to use this airport instead of Tampa International. Even though it is across the bay, the drive time is only about 30-45 minutes from the cruise terminals.

Parking and Fees

Parking garages are located directly across Channelside Drive from the three cruise terminals at Port Tampa Bay. Prices are affordable at $15 per day, paid online in advance ( porttb.com ). The garages are secure, monitored, and keep your vehicle out of the hot Florida sun.

Surface lots are also within walking distance and can be booked online before you arrive for around $8 per day, or paid in person when you arrive at the port.

When should I arrive?

Because Port Tampa Bay is a smaller port serving only two or three ships at any given time, it’s an easy place to get around. If parking in the garages, 30 minutes is plenty of time to park and walk to the terminal.

It’s also possible to drop off your family or friends at the terminal with your bags (porters are available) and then park while they wait. Surface lots are about a ten to fifteen-minute walk away — so if you choose those, make sure to factor in additional time.  

Nearby Hotels

The best spots to stay for a night before or after your cruise are either in the city, close to downtown, or out by the beaches if you have a little extra time. Close to the port in downtown are a good selection of mid-range and luxury hotels, many with great waterfront views and locations on the Tampa Riverwalk.

A short streetcar ride away in Ybor City are several mid-range chains and independent boutique hotels. Ybor is a great place to spend a night with many unique and interesting restaurants and shops, with a distinct turn of the century Latin flair not found in most other American cities.

If you have a bit more time, the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico are a short 45-minute drive west and contain a huge number of lodging options for most any budget — from condos to resorts.

Hangout Spot

The best place to hang out before or after your cruise is the Channelside/Water Street area. This section of town, directly adjoining the port, has a great number of restaurants, cafés, and bars, and is on the Tampa Riverwalk which is perfect for a stroll.

The Columbia Café at the Tampa History Center has a wonderful shaded terrace located right on the water, and is a great place to spend some time relaxing. A little further down the Riverwalk is Sail Pavilion, which has terrific drink specials and tasty food, all served outdoors along the waterfront. 

Sail Away Viewing

For the best views of the cruise ships leaving Port Tampa Bay, Sparkman Wharf at Water Street is a good place to be. Located right on Garrison Channel and just west of Terminal 2, this complex contains multiple counters to order food, and places to sit scattered around the lawn.

Additionally, a beer garden takes up center stage, so there is no chance of going thirsty while watching the ships head out to sea past Harbor Island.

Another place to see the majesty of the ships sailing by is located out by the Sunshine Skyway bridge. While a fairly far drive from the port at around 45 minutes, the bridge is one of the longest cable-stayed concrete bridges in the world.

Fishing piers on either side of the Skyway afford breathtaking views of the cruise ships sailing beneath the bridge, a wonder to see in person.

The Tampa cruise terminal is located on the Ybor channel downtown, close to Ybor City. It is about five miles from Tampa International Airport . There's a lot to see and do right around the Tampa cruise terminal complex.

Many cruises start & end at the Port of Tampa.

There are many options for transportation and shuttles between the Tampa airport and the cruise terminal . You can catch a shuttle, hop in a taxi, rent a limousine, or rent a car. It should take about 25 minutes to go the 5 miles from the airport to the port.

The free TECO Street Car (trolley) runs  on the road in front of the cruise port. Their website has links to many of the things to do in the downtown area.

The River Walk is a nice stroll along the Hillsborough River.   Cross the Kennedy Ave. bridge to visit the H.B. Plant Museum at the University of Tampa.  

A 5 minute walk from the port is the Tampa History Museum .  While there, enjoy a Cuban sandwich or Spanish Bean soup at the Columbia Restaurant.

The Port of Tampa opened a new 730-space parking garage. $15 a day. The new garage is located on Channelside Drive, across from Channelside Bay. There are also many hotels with park & cruise packages.

Multi-ethnic Tampa on the Florida peninsula's west coast is a thriving city where quaint historic neighborhoods co-exist happily with sleek skyscrapers, and shrimp boats vie with cruise liners for space in the busy port. It was the Cuban immigrant community, led by Vicente Martinez Ybor, who put Tampa on the map when they introduced the cigar industry in the 1880s and developed Ybor City, now fully restored to its Latin Quarter elegance and a favorite neighborhood for tourists to explore, by day or night.

Most visitors to the Tampa area stay in the resorts of St Petersburg and Clearwater, across Tampa Bay from the city. Most pay at least one visit to Tampa itself, however, for the exciting attractions and excellent museums on offer, particularly families with children in tow. The most popular attraction is the Busch Gardens entertainment park.

The Chihuly Collection is a stunning, permanent collection of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly’s unique artwork. This presentation is unique as it is the first installation of Chihuly art in a building designed specifically for that purpose. The Salvador Dalí Museum is an art museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States, dedicated to the work of Salvador Dalí. It houses the largest collection of Dalí's works outside Europe. Most states have a sales tax, ranging from 2.9% to nearly 10% of the retail price; 4-6% is typical. Sales tax is almost never included in posted prices (except for gasoline, and in most states, alcoholic beverages consumed on-premises), but instead will be calculated and added to the total when you pay.

Tipping in America is widely used and expected. While Americans themselves often debate correct levels and exactly who deserves to be tipped, generally accepted standard rates are:

Tampa Cruise Port

The Tampa cruise terminal is located on the channel downtown, close to Ybor City. It is about five miles from Tampa International Airport. There's a lot to see and do around the Tampa cruise port complex.

Tampa Port officials have worked with the community to develop a lively downtown waterfront. An entertainment complex called Sparkman Wharf is a short walk from the Tampa cruise terminals. It offers entertainment and restaurants in a comfortable water-side atmosphere. The Florida Aquarium is between the cruise terminals, home to over 10,000 aquatic plants and animals from Florida and all over the world.

From Tampa International Airport (10 miles):

• Exit the Airport and follow signs to I-275 North.
• I-275 merges with I-4 East.
• Take I-4 East to Exit #1 (Ybor City).
• Go south on 21st Street, turn right on Adamo Drive (Hwy 60).
• Turnleft (south) on Channelside Drive.
• Cruise Terminal 3 main entrance is approximately 5 blocks South on Channelside Drive.
• Entrance is on the left at Cumberland Street.
• In the event of a last minute change in pier assignments, signage will indicate the assigned terminal for your particular ship.

Parking Information

A parking garage is located at 810 Channelside Drive, across the street from Terminal 3. The parking fee is approximately $15 per day (subject to change), and is payable upon entry into the parking area in the form of cash or credit card. Enjoy the diverse attractions of Tampa, Florida. Visit the captivating exhibits at the Tampa Museum of Art, experience thrilling rides at Busch Gardens, or unwind on the white sandy beaches of Clearwater. With its vibrant culture and outdoor adventures, Tampa offers something for everyone.

Busch Gardens

Across the street from Adventure Island is its parent park, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay   Another notable Tampa feature, the gardens have actually been around for longer than Disney World. It is also considerably cheaper to enter, and boasts of a number of themed sections focusing on the Congo, Morocco, Egypt, Nairobi, and Timbuktu. There are also exhibits focusing on the Serengeti and the Myombe Reserve, both of which enable guests to get really close to the animals.

Adventure Island Water Park

Adventure Island Water Park offers plenty of wet fun and excitement for the entire family. One of Tampa’s most enduring and most endearing landmarks, the park has been around for over 30 years. Although it isn’t the most modern or most innovative water park, there are plenty of cool features to keep families entertained for hours, including two swimming pools, several water slides, a volleyball court, and so much more.

Florida Aquarium

Located directly beside the cruise port, the Florida Aquarium offers interactive, hands-on displays, exhibits featuring many different sea creatures and wildlife and has a great example of Florida wetlands housed under a giant glass dome. There are different shows during the day, including the Penguins Promenade. There is also a great outdoor water adventure area for the kids – Explore a Shore – where they can cool off among pirate ships and water cannons.

Tampa Electric’s Manatee Viewing Center

Kids and even adults will definitely appreciate the Tampa Electric’s Manatee Viewing Center with its array of cute and cuddly creatures, mangrove forests, a stunningly beautiful butterfly garden, and a cool gift shop. Providing a unique opportunity to observe manatees swimming through the channels of the Tampa Electric water plant, the tour is a must for anyone who has even a passing interest in marine life. Best of all, it costs much less than a visit to most other parks and attractions in Tampa.

Henry B. Plant Museum

Also worth checking out is the Henry B. Plant Museum , which is just as impressive for its antiques, architecture, and historical displays as it is for its setting. Located within the grounds of the Moorish Revival Tampa Bay Hotel on the campus of the University of Tampa, the museum provides a unique and detailed look into life in Tampa during the start of the 20th century, and also hosts a fascinating display on Henry Bradley Plant, the railroad magnate who created the museum.

Hurricane Beryl disrupts cruise ships scheduled to depart from Port Tampa Bay

Hurricane Beryl threatens to ruin vacationers’ plans for smooth sailing aboard cruise ships slated to depart from Port Tampa Bay. Cruise line meteorologists are actively monitoring conditions in the Caribbean and making itinerary adjustments, but the situation is fluid.

Throughout the week, four cruise ships are scheduled to leave from the port: Margaritaville at Sea “Islander,” Carnival “Paradise,” Royal Caribbean International “Enchantment of the Seas,” and Royal Caribbean International “Grandeur of the Seas.”

This morning, the monstrous storm was located about 370 miles southeast of Isla Beata in the Dominican Republic, moving west-northwest at 22 miles per hour. Beryl is the earliest Category 5 hurricane to form in the Atlantic Ocean, due to uncharacteristically warm waters. The storm was forecast to remain at major hurricane strength as it roars near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Thursday, before heading toward Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Friday.

Royal Caribbean International “Grandeur of the Seas,” which departed from Port Tampa Bay yesterday, will now visit Yucatan (Progresso), Mexico, on day four and Cozumel, Mexico, on day three.

“The safety of our guests, crew and communities we visit is our top priority. Along with our Chief Meteorologist, we are closely monitoring the progression of Hurricane Beryl, and are making adjustments to some of our Caribbean sailings for the comfort and safety of our guests and crew. Guests and travel advisors will be notified directly of any necessary changes,” said a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson in an email.

Two Royal Caribbean ships scheduled to depart on Saturday, July 6, will maintain their original itineraries.

Margaritaville at Sea “Islander,” which will depart around 4 p.m. this afternoon, has adjusted its itinerary to avoid the Yucatan Peninsula.

“Due to the storm’s currently projected path, and for the safety and comfort of all our passengers and crew, the second destination port of our sailing has been changed from Progreso, Mexico to Nassau, Bahamas,” wrote Maria Hayworth, the president of Hayworth PR, in an email.

Carnival “Paradise” is scheduled to depart on Thursday with no reported itinerary changes.

For updated information, Port Tampa Bay directs guests to confirm information with their cruise line. Schedules and cruise ship departure times can change at any time without notice. As of noon on Tuesday, “there are no impacts to our operations, including departures and arrivals of our cruise partners,” said Lisa Wolf-Chason of Port Tampa Bay.

Guests can expect to hear about all other changes from the cruise line they are sailing with, such as “any changes to your cruise itinerary, including vessel weather avoidance plans and any portcall changes,” said Wolf-Chason.

World’s largest cruise ship catches fire after sailing from Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A small fire broke out on the world’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, on Tuesday.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told USA Today that the fire was quickly extinguished and isolated to a crew area. No one was hurt. The ship was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico when the fire broke out.

The spokesperson said the ship briefly lost power, however, backup power was activated immediately and the main power systems were resorted. The ship’s itinerary was not impacted by the fire or power outage.

The Port of Miami-based Icon of the Seas set sail on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise on Saturday, according to CruiseMapper. It is scheduled to return to Miami on Saturday, June 29.

The Icon of the Seas set sail for the first time in January. It can hold up to 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members.

World's second-largest cruise ship to arrive at Port Canaveral next week

The world's second-largest cruise ship will arrive at Port Canaveral next week, providing another milestone for the world's second-busiest cruise port.

Royal Caribbean International's Utopia of the Seas is schedule to sail into Port Canaveral the morning of July 11. It will begin sailings on July 19, offering three- and four-night voyages to the Bahamas, with departures on Fridays and Mondays. Most of the sailings will have port-of-call stops in Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's private island.

Utopia of the Seas is the world's second-largest cruise ship, behind Royal Caribbean's Miami-based Icon of the Seas, which debuted there in January. Utopia has 18 decks; 2,834 staterooms; a double-occupancy capacity of 5,668; and a crew of 2,290.

Royal Caribbean is marketing the ship as "the world's biggest weekend," alluding to its massive size and relatively short cruises.

Port Canaveral CEO John Murray said the Utopia of the Seas has so many attractions onboard that, for many passengers, "the ship itself is really a destination. So it's really cool."

"The ship is coming straight to Port Canaveral from the shipyard," Murray said told port commissioners at their meeting last week. "This ship is built specifically for the three- and four-day cruises, and Royal Caribbean selected us for that honor. So we're really excited, and we want to want to do a good job with it. It's going to be really exciting to see it sitting right outside of Cruise Terminal 1."

Murray said he expects the addition of the Utopia will give a boost to passenger traffic at Port Canaveral, which has been relatively flat in April and May compared with previous-year numbers, after posting strong year-over-year increases during the winter season.

The Utopia will be one of three Royal Caribbean ships based at Port Canaveral when it enters the lineup, joining the Adventure of the Seas and the Wonder of the Seas.

Utopia has 22 restaurants; 13 bars and lounges; six special areas for young children and teens; eight themed neighborhoods; the AquaTheater, Royal Theater and Studio B entertainment venues; five pools; two casinos with more than 370 slot machines and nearly 30 table games; and two rock-climbing walls.

The ship also features the FlowRider surf simulator; a 10-story zip line; and The Ultimate Abyss, which is the longest dry slide at sea at 259 feet, plummeting 10 decks.

Powered by liquefied natural gas

The Utopia will be the third ship based at Port Canaveral to be powered by liquefied natural gas, a fuel that is cleaner-burning that traditional marine fuels. The other LNG-powered ships at Port Canaveral are the Carnival's Mardi Gras and Disney's Wish.

Before its first cruise with paying passengers, the Utopia will undergo its final U.S. Coast Guard inspection. The ship also will host a formal ship-naming ceremony, as well as a traditional maritime plaque-and-key exchange between Royal Caribbean and Port Canaveral officials.

In all, Royal Caribbean operates the world's seven largest cruise ships.

Royal Caribbean officially took delivery of the Utopia on June 13, after more than two years of construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley said the Utopia of the Seas will provide cruise passengers "the keys to the ultimate weekend. This is the short vacation that packs every way to make amazing memories in a three-night weekend or four-night weekday getaway."
