Todd Rundgren at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix

Danny Zelisko Presents will bring An Evening with Todd Rundgren to the Celebrity Theatre on June 19, 2024.

Rundgren is, in many ways, the quintessential rock ‘n’ roll enigma, a restless spirit who’s been following his own lead from the start.

As a producer, he’s responsible for classic albums by the New York Dolls, Badfinger, Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, XTC, the Tubes and Meat Loaf, among others.

His “Something/Anything?” album made the Top 200 on Rolling Stone’s 500-greatest-albums-ever list. The left turn that followed that perfect pop masterpiece, “A Wizard, A True Star,” was panned by critics at the time but has inspired reams of raving re-evaluation through the year, the Guardian hailing it as “harmonically richer and more ambitiously deranged than ‘The White Album.’"

His work with Utopia has been embraced by prog-rock fans while power-pop enthusiasts tend to worship the catchier side of his career, including his work with the Nazz. But to the general public, he’s still pretty much defined by five hit singles: “We Gotta Get You a Woman,” “I Saw the Light,” “Hello It’s Me,” “Can We Still Be Friends” and “Bang the Drum All Day.”

Totally Tubular Festival at Arizona Financial Theatre

The Totally Tubular Festival is bringing Thomas Dolby, the Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey, Modern English, Men Without Hats, the Romantics, Bow Wow Wow and the Plimsouls to Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix on Wednesday, July 3.

Sarah McLachlan is bringing the Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Tour to Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, with special guest Feist.

I think this tour is going to be a real walk down memory lane for me, and I’m hoping that my audience, many of whom have been with me for 30 years, will also be able to go back in time with me.”

Champion was born in 1882 in London's East End. His career was cut short by the First World War, and his songs faded into obscurity until 2014, when his sheet music started to surface: first in Malta, then in England, and, intriguingly, in Belgium, where Champion probably met his end in the trenches.

By 2019, enough songs had been recovered for Jackson to resurrect them with a 12-piece orchestra.

Doobie Brothers in Phoenix: Ultimate guide to their Footprint Center concert

phoenix band tour schedule

The 50th Anniversary Tour they launched in 2021 put Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons and John McFee back on the road together as the Doobie Brothers for the first time in a quarter-century.

Now, they’re takin’ it to the streets with a new album in the can — their first full album of new music with McDonald since 1980’s “One Step Closer” — and coming to Phoenix for a show at Footprint Center on Wednesday, June 26.

As Simmons joked in an exclusive interview with The Arizona Republic , “Actually, this is the second 50 years of the band we're celebrating now.”

And it seems like it’s off to a pretty good start.

Simmons also talked about the making of their latest album, the hours of unused footage from the early ‘70s he hopes will turn up in the latest Doobies documentary, the glitter-rock phase he swears they went through and what keeps him "going for it” after more than 50 years.

By that point, Reeves was famous for his starring role in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure," a science-fiction comedy primarily shot in metro Phoenix.

Last seen rocking Crescent Ballroom last summer, Dogstar will return to Arizona for a gig at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Hotel & Casino on the Ak-Chin Indian Community south of Phoenix on Saturday, Sept. 21.
