Does anyone know if you can get picked up at a Rome hotel if you book your one rooms before the cruise?

Hi SeaWatch, I'm not sure I understand "book your one rooms" statement. There are many providers who will pick you up at your Rome hotel. Many people who are booked on my upcoming cruise have chosen http://www.romecabs.com, but there are several others.

Once you have booked your cruise, you can join your Roll Call and "buddy up" with others who want to go from a hotel to the port at the same time as you. For our cruise, Rome Cabs is stopping at three different hotels to transport six of us to the port.

I'm not sure if I answered your question, so post here if you still need an answer.

Last time we went on the cruise from Rome in 2005 X picked up at the Crown Plaza in Rome which is where we stayed. We noticed people arriving at the hotel in taxis and vans and boarding the X bus. Don't know if they still do that but will find out again 10/10!!!!!!!!:):)

We booked all our transfers with Romeinlimo. They were cheaper than transfers through the cruise line and we got to ride in really nice van and not a large bus. We put together several transfers to the port from Rome on our Roll Call. It ended up being a really good situation. I hear good things about Romecabs also, but never used them.

You can take the train from Rome Termini to Civitavecchia. It's not bad at all - takes an hour and a half. Can't remember the price though.

Has anybody used Rome Transfers to go from the airport to hotel?

Thanks for the great ideas. I will not plan on the train because my last two times in Italy (not on a cruise) I was traveling by train and they went on strike!

Lsimon

We Used Rome Cabs to go for Airport to Hotel and then the next day from Hotel to the Ship. About 2 years ago. Worked fine and while not cheap I think it was cheaper than some of the alternatives. At least two groups on our roll call had arrainged group transfers from Rome that would have been a little less expensive but we would have had to leave earlier and take a cab from our hotel to a central point to meet up. I still think our cost was no more and maybe less than what Celebrity was charging and just the two of us traveled at our convenience.

Hi, Just booked the Aug 22 cruise

Does anyone know how to get from the airport to the ship

Is anyone interested in planning to get a taxi and share the cost

Ship transfer is aprox. $185.00 pp

Any idea and plans for the excusions?

Any groups being organized

Is anyone interested in organizing group tours in Israel

Canadian Sunshine, search by ship to find the Roll Call for your cruise:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=206

You can "meet" the other passengers on your specific cruise. That will be the best place to get your questions about excursions, groups, transfers, etc. answered.

In addition to the suggestion above to look for your roll call you can check out the Italy port of call board for port specific touring suggestions, review and hotel/transfer discussions: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=595

As far as transfers we did pre-arrainged private car with Rome Cabs and the cost for both of us combined was far below the per person cost you quoted above for the cruise line transfer - and much more convenient. Google them and/or look through the port of call board for similar recommendations on them and other transportation companies.

We have used www.romashuttle.com and have been very happy with them.

They have picked us up from the airport, transported us to the Marriott in Rome, picked us up from the hotel to the port, and the port back to the airport. Always on time. Always friendly. Highly recommend them. The hotel we booked on our own.

CruisinTeach99

We are using transfers both ways. We are staying in Rome a few days before our July 8 sailing, and will taxi over to the Crowne Plaza ( St. Peters

Via Aurelia Antica 415) the day of embarkation. This is the "city-center" transfer that X offers. It leaves at 1:30 for the ship.

We thought about taking a taxi or train, but we were nervous about lugging bags in the train or a cab driver getting lost, so we are playing it safe and traveling with the X crew. Maybe we'll make a friend or two before we even hit the ship!

I think transfers both ways cost us about $300 pp. We are also using X to get to the airport the day of disembarkation.

CathyCruises

If you are saying that transfer from the airport to hotel and hotel to ship is going to cost you $600, that is an outrageous amount of money IMO! I cannot speak to exactly how much the taxi is from the airport but it is a tiny fraction of that amount.

The train to the ship, which you could catch at the station very near the Vatican, would cost you 4.5 euros/pp (about $6-7), but if you are uncomfortable doing that, although many cruisers do it every week, please consider joining your roll call and hooking uo with some fellow cruisers to share a van to the port--Rome in Limo or Rome Cabs get great reviews on the Italy boards.

It pains me to see you spend so much more than you need to--the cruise lines must have seen you coming and are soaking you!!!

I have booked some transfers for this fall so I have current pricing. A van that holds 6 people and luggage will cost 200 Euros from Central Rome to Civitavecchia. Larger buses cannot enter much of the city but the small vans can go anywhere. There are several reliable companies (Rome Cabs, Rome in Limo and others, just google them). These services depend on the good reputation they get through Cruise Critic so they are very reliable.

In addition to the suggestion above to look for your roll call you can check out the Italy port of call board for port specific touring suggestions, review and hotel/transfer discussions: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=595   As far as transfers we did pre-arrainged private car with Rome Cabs and the cost for both of us combined was far below the per person cost you quoted above for the cruise line transfer - and much more convenient. In my post above I stated that our cost for the private transfer was far less for both of us combined than the cost of a one person cruise line transfer. Just re-read that and realized that I was getting my dollars and Euros mixed up. We paid 120 Euros for a private car from our hotel in Central Rome to the port. I guess that would be about equal to the cruise line transfer price for one - so basically the price for 2 is 1/2 of the cruise line cost for 2. Of course if we had the cruise line transfer we would have had to catch a cab to the transfer point too.

Oops, I mistyped... I meant about $300 total for transfers. I just checked and it's actually $364 for both ways for the 2 of us. I don't think that's too bad for traveling with other X cruisers and knowing the driver won't get lost. Good peace of mind!

Does anyone know if the transfers to Civitavecchia (such as Rome Cabs) are able to take you to (or close to) the ship or do they drop you at the port entrance?

My wife has somewhat limited walking capacity so we would like to know before we arrive.

We just did a hotel to airport connection this week using the private car arrangement which the hotel recommended. It was €50 total one way, I booked it the day before at the reception desk in the hotel (NH Giustiniano), the car was a black Mercedes limo, the driver was wearing a suit and tie, he arrived 15 minutes early, drove well, was pleasant, and we got there in 30 minutes - two people and five suitcases. I don't know the firm's name, however, but it was an agreeable and relatively inexpensive way to get there efficiently.

We took the train, so I don't know if cabs go right to the ship, but I do know that there is a free shuttle from the port entrance to the ship, so either way you would not have to walk. We had walked from the station, but were not given the option to walk into the port, we were just directed to the shuttle.

Thanks Sheila, good to know :)

RomeCabs will drop you right at the ship. The security personnel at the port seem very familiar with them. We loved working with Stefano of RomeCabs on what turned out to be a rather complex series of circumstances which required all sorts of flexibility on his part. Can't recommend him enough.

It was a couple years ago, but I recall our driver dropping us off right at the cruise terminal. There were porters there and we walked right inside - just as we have at other ports.

Yes, the cab drivers drop you right at the ship - and pick you up there as well.

Rome transfer

My wife and I are going on the Jewell May 2, 2019. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to get from Rome to the port on the day of the sailing May 2. We will be in Rome for 4 days before the ship sets sail.

Rome is about 75 minutes drive from the port at  Civitavecchia.

You can take a train to Civitavecchia from Roma Termini and then take a bus from the train station to the port (the cheap way).  Or you can arrange for a driver to take you - this usually costs around €80 for 2.  I use Bobs Limos and would happily recommend them.

We used Stefano’s Rome Cabs for our transfers from the airport to our hotel in Rome, from the hotel to the port, and from the port to the airport at the end of our cruise. I can’t say enough good things about them. Wonderful, personalized, professional, door to door service.

Where they truly learned my respect was upon our return from the cruise. We arrived under pouring rain and our ship was delayed. We didn’t dock until after 8:00am, and we had an 11:30am flight back to the USA. I messaged Rome Cabs, fearing that our driver wouldn’t be present due to our late arrival, well beyond our reserved time, but they reassured us that they monitor ship delays and that our driver would be there.

And indeed, she was. Standing in the pouring rain with a soggy sign with our name on it was our driver. She quickly got into action, helped with our luggage, walked us to our car parked 20 feet away,  helped us dry up and drove us to the airport. We made our flight with time to spare! Had we taken any other means of transportation (bus, cruise line transport, taxi, or train), I’m sure that we would’ve missed our flight, Having the ability to pick us up right at our terminal was a huge convenience.

So it may cost more, but I recommend a private car service like this one. The convenience and efficiency of it are worth every extra penny.

I've used the train. The regular trains make local stops and tend to be very crowded leaving Roma Termini; I didn't get a seat until about halfway to Civitavecchia. There are also express trains at a higher fare that are probably not crowded. Traveling alone, I would always take the train. With a travel partner, a car service is more thinkable.

If you take the train, just outside the station in Civitavecchia, to the left of the door, there is a little shop where you buy a bus token. Returning from Civitavecchia, there is a shack at the bus stop. Drivers don't take cash. The bus goes only as far as the entrance to the port, from which a free bus shuttle take you to whatever ships are in port.

I would also recommend Stefano & Rome Cabs.  We've used them multiple times and have always had excellent service.

We did this last summer and utilized RomeCabs.   They were awesome both to the port from our Rome hotel, and from the port back to Rome, where we stayed additional time after the cruise.    Private luxury vehicle, we had three people.   Did everything via email, very professional.   The expense is totally worth it.   Be even embarked earlier than our scheduled time, by at least 45 minutes, and they were waiting right there at the exit ready for us.    There are lots of options for private cars, too, including your hotel may have a relationship with a car company.

kernow

We once did private transfers with a group from our roll call, there were about 15 of us and they picked up from a few different hotels and I think we only ended up paying around 20 euro pp.

Another vote for Bob"b Limo. We have used them several times and will do so in the future.  About $80.00 for 2, each additional person about $12.00. This is for a shared ride in a large van. happy cruising

On our cruise last summer we pre booked the express train with assigned seats from Rome and there were plenty of shared taxis waiting at the train station to take us to the ship   The earlier you book the train, the cheaper it is.  The taxi from the station to the ship was only 5 euros each.

SoccerMom#3

Another vote for RomeCabs.  We used them to take us from Rome, where we spent 3 days pre-cruise, to the port for our transatlantic Celebrity cruse in October.  We had three pick ups that we had prearranged with other cruise critic members on our cruise.  All communications with RomeCabs prior to our cruise was prompt and helpful  Our driver from Rome to the port was wonderful especially navigating the very narrow central Rome streets.

  1. Transfers in rome

We used Rome-Chauffeur and not only was this service consistently on-point for each transfer (we did a total of 5 transfers with them this trip and the drivers arrived at least 30 mins early each reservation), but the pricing was the most competitive out of about 10 other cabs and car services I researched, including those named above.

  2. Rome Transfers

If you want a private transfer from Rome you can use Romecabs.com which charges about 130 Euros. Shared shuttles cost less but may involve delays as they pick up folks from other hotels and possibly drop at other piers. You can also take the train from Rome, use the 2 Euro shuttle to the port shuttles and save over 100 Euros.
