Highly recommend this small, ecologically conscious operator staffed by lifelong locals! Our semi-private airboat consisted of only 5 passengers and Captain Joe (who let me ride shotgun :)), and 1.5 hours was the perfect length of time to cover a good amount of the River of Grass without feeling like too much. At 8:30 am, we were the first boat on the water, and I appreciated the serenity. Saw many birds and 4 alligators up close and personal!

Great time with Captain Robby. I made email contact asking for a 10am trip the night before. Got an answer that it was full but had an opening @130. We took it. We meet up at the spot and meet Capt Ronny. Waited for the others to arrive and off we went. (6 of us plus Ronny) Just the right size. What a great time we had, as Capt Ronny pointed out wildlife to us during our trip. He was knowledgeable of the area and environmental issues. (He is a local guy who loves and cares about the area) We did the 1.5 tour and that was enough time to see everything. It was a very smooth ride. If you want fast and zipping around then this may not be for you. It goes fast but enough where you can enjoy the ride. Ear protection was provided and needed. (Duh, it's an airboat) When we come back I would book with them again.

My husband booked a 2-hour morning airboat tour for just the 2 of us. We arrived on time only to find out that our tour captain, Joe, didn't have us on his schedule. We showed our confirmation paperwork, and after calling the office, Joe rolled with it and gave us a 90-minute tour to avoid disrupting the schedule for the rest of the day. Joe really knows the Everglades. He navigated expertly through established passageways and knew exactly where to find alligators. He explained the ecology associated with the floral and fauna. It was clear that he loved what he was doing. Despite the cold, cloudy weather and not having seen animals other than alligators (and a few birds), we really enjoyed ourselves. If you intend to take an airboat tour during cool weather, pay attention to the instructions and dress appropriately. We're glad we did! We'd definitely do this again (but probably in the dry season).

This is not my 1st airboat tour in Florida, but the rest of our party either (1) never had an actual full fledged experience seeing active alligators or (2) never rode an airboat before so I decided to book a private airboat tour with this company because I was able to schedule a tour at my desired time (9:30 AM). [Reservation]: I called to book a reservation two months ahead and received an email confirmation. I emailed the company again one month ahead of scheduled tour and received an invoice this time. Our party did not receive a reminder email or text 24 hours before our scheduled tour, but customers can always call to confirm. [Price]: Our party booked 1.5 Hour Everglades Airboat River of Grass Ride and I was quoted $500 for a party of 6 (normally $350 for minimum of 2 guests and $50 for each additional guest). [Check-in]: The meeting spot is located approximately 25 miles from Miami Beach (40 to 55 minute drive). No restroom at the boat ramp so use restroom at a nearby Shell gas station (17696 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33194) just 5 minutes away. Initially I was confused at first and checked in at the first boat ramp, but the gentleman kindly redirected us to a different boat ramp adjacent to the entrance - turn right at the first ramp right next to the tanks and drive few hundred yards on the levy/dirt road until a second boat ramp appears. Our party arrived at 9:20 AM and our guide started our tour at 9:30 AM. A random observation - one of our friends had hangover from last night and puked off the side of bushy grass. [Amenities]: Our guide gave everyone a light-weight headset for noise-cancelling and bottled waters were sitting in a portable cooler. [Tour]: Some of highlights include - seeing animals (e.g. grasshoppers, grackles, and three alligators including a famous alligator named Jumper) and "fishing" using Cheetos. Our guide was knowledgeable and no one felt seasick while on the airboat. I also learned from the guide that Burmese pythons are becoming the apex predator to the point that (1) one python ate an alligator and (2) there are bounty hunters going after these Burmese pythons. Overall each airboat company offers unique elements on airboat tours and our party had a pretty good time. Personally I still prefer Buffalo Tigers Airboat Tours for solo traveler (the guide, a Native American, literally called and summoned an alligator), but Everglades River of Grass Adventures offers a slightly better deal on private tour, slightly more convenient location, and a solid representation of wildlife in Everglades. P.S. - There's a very high likelihood seeing alligators during summer, but no guarantee.

We decided on Everglades River of Grass after reading Yelp reviews. I really wanted to see alligators in their natural environment and this tour did not disappoint. Our guide Robbie was great. He not only gave us the opportunity to see several gators and birds close-up during our airboat tour, but also educated us on the everglades and wildlife. I would highly recommend this tour.

I recently went on a tour of the Everglades in Miami with Captain Mike, and I have to say it was an amazing experience. First and foremost, Captain Mike's knowledge and passion for the area was evident throughout the trip. He shared fascinating insights about the ecosystem and wildlife, making the tour not only enjoyable but also educational. One of the highlights of the tour was getting the chance to spot a couple of crocodiles up close. It was truly a mesmerizing sight to see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. My family and I had a fantastic time with Captain Mike. We wanted a slightly longer tour and booked the 1.5 hr semi-private tour. I am glad we did! We had plenty of time to look for gators and saw at least 5-6 gators in addition to other wildlife. Captain Mike is very knowledgable about the Everglades! The boat we were on for the semi-private tour is small and can only fit about 8 people, which makes the tour feel very intimate as it was just our family of four and another couple. There doesn't seem to be any other company that offers a 1.5 hr semi-private tour, which is more affordable than a similar length private tour. So don't hesistate to book with them especially if you want a longer tour.

Killer 14-foot alligator found with body of missing mum still in its stomach

Newly released police body camera footage shows the horrifying moment a 14-foot-long bloated alligator is captured - with the body of a 41-year-old mum inside.

The footage from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shows those first on the scene arrive at a canal in Largo, Florida. Sensing its threat, they quickly shoot the predator dead with a rifle.

"Watch them, watch them," a voice shouts before the trigger is pulled with a bang. Local Jamarcus Bullard was the first to discover the gruesome scene, alerting 911 when he saw a gator with what he believed were body parts in its mouth.

"I noticed it had a body in its mouth, like a lower torso, so once I saw that, I ran straight to the fire department and got them. They confirmed it was a body," Bullard said.

Sabrina Peckham, 41, an unhoused woman who had been living at a makeshift campsite less than 50 feet away from the canal in Pinellas County, was later identified as the victim. Her family had last seen her the day before the fatal encounter last September.

Officials later cut open the gator - which measured 13 feet and 9.5 inches - to find Peckham's body parts inside.

After her mother's death, the dead woman's daughter came out to deny her mother had been taunting the animal. Breauana Dorris wrote in a Facebook post: "My mother was a part of the homeless population living in the nearby wooded area.

"It is believed she may have been walking to or from her campsite near the creek in the dark, and the alligator attacked from the water. We expected to have many, many more years with her. Unfortunately, God has called her home sooner than our hearts were ready."

Last week a relaxing airboat trip along the Florida Everglades turned into a nightmare after it capsized, flinging every passenger into alligator -infested waters. The incident happened when the driver reportedly took a sharp turn while attempting to view one of the deadly reptiles.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said it was called out to the waterway near Coopertown The Original Airboat Tour, south of the Tamiami Trail and about five miles west of Krome Avenue. Nine people on board the tour along with the operator all fell into the water when the boat took a quick turn. According to passengers, the boat operator was trying to get a closer look at the deadly reptiles when the incident happened

ORLANDO, Fla. – The conventional wisdom in Florida is that if you see a body of water, assume there is a gator in it.

But some bodies of water have more than others — quite a few more.

Every year, officials at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission take an alligator census of up to 100 bodies of water around Florida.

The census is an estimate. As you can imagine, counting alligators is no easy task, let alone counting them accurately. FWC includes a standard error that varies depending on the body of water.

It should surprise no one that Lake Okeechobee, Florida’s largest lake, also has the most gators, according to the most recent data obtained by News 6 through a public records request. The survey was conducted between May and August 2023. Officials counted 24,678 gators in the large South Florida Lake.

The Central Florida lake with the most alligators is Lake Kissimmee, along the Osceola-Polk county line, where 15,404 gators were counted.

After that, Lake Jesup in Seminole County comes in third with 11,881 gators.

Orange Lake along the Marion-Alachua county line has 11,544 gators and ranks fourth.

Rounding out the Top Five is Lake Poinsett, part of the St. Johns River, which is along the Brevard-Orange-Osceola county border.

FWC only had recent data for 55 of the waterways as part of the alligator census, but the FWC estimate comes out to 210,485 gators just in those waterways.

FWC also estimates there are about 1.3 million alligators throughout Florida.

Wherever you see a gator, FWC officials remind people to keep their distance from it. Never feed a gator and only swim in designated swimming areas during daylight hours. Also, keep pets on a leash when you’re near the water.
