When to visit
The seasons in Argentina are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere. Spring and autumn are a good time to visit Buenos Aires, which can otherwise be quite sticky and humid. Summer is the only time you can climb the tallest Andean peaks and is the most reliable time of year to visit Tierra del Fuego. Autumn is a great time to visit the wine regions and Patagonia where the beech groves turn rusty red and orange.

Buenos Aires
Enchanting while youthful, historic yet spirited.
Buenos Aires is a vibrant blend of traditional ‘asado’ (steakhouses) and tango bars, colorful Fileteado artwork and grand Belle Époque mansions. Whether you’re seeking a luxury family vacation or a private tour, we’ll show you the city’s secrets. Between learning to make tasty empanadas with a hands-on cooking class and sampling varieties of helado, Argentina’s take on ice-cream, you’ll discover the passion and history of the Tango during a private lesson, tour through the city’s urban street art scene, or soak in the atmosphere as you watch a match in La Boca neighborhood – the home of Argentinian football.
Celebrating the finest glass of red we all know and love.
Where better to experience the culinary excellence of Argentina than in the home of Malbec – Mendoza. Experience an abundance of wine tastings and local delicacies with skilled sommeliers. During harvest season, test your hand at grape picking and learn the art of winemaking before we set up a private dining experience among the vines. Beyond the cellar door, is the world-class wine resort Casa de Uco. Famous for its picturesque valley setting, and laden with stretches of vineyards, the Andes is its epic backdrop.
Northern or southern Patagonia? Why not visit both.
The landscapes shift dramatically as you journey down the Andes from Bariloche to El Calafate and onto Ushuaia, at the southern tip of the continent. Our Argentina experts have tried and tested unique hiking routes, located epic glacier views and identified remote lakes for you to experience in a way that very few get to. Try your hand at fly fishing, take in the azure ice formations of Perito Moreno Glacier , and marvel at the incredible Mt. Fitz Roy; topping off one almighty bucket list adventure.

excellent in each and every aspect
On the whole, the trip was good, mostly because of Valentina, our tour guide. She took good care of every tour member and made the tour enjoyable for everybody. Thanks a lot, Val ?
The trip was amazing and the pristine environment in Antarctica needs to be seen and felt to be appreciated. Quark provided a platform to conduct the the trip in a sustainable manner, impeccable procedures to preserve the environment and also good food to enjoy. Thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable trip. One suggestion for Quark is to clearly advise future participants to cater 2-3 days leeway to allow for flights delay or cancellation due to the changeable weather conditions. There was a 2 days delay for my trip due to planes being unable to land in Antarctica due to accumulated snow on the runway. This caused a frantic rush to change flights and other travel arrangements for many participants aggravated by the limited internet access in Antarctica which could be avoidable or mitigated if the participants were advised of probable delays prior to the trip.

A Natural Beauty Waiting to be Discovered
![luxury tour argentina luxury tour argentina](https://kerdowney.com/images/arrow-down.png)
Luxury travel to Argentina promises to tantalize every dimension of your senses. Indeed, the charms of Mendoza and the majesty of Patagonia can only be captured through private luxury travel to Argentina with Ker & Downey.
Natural Wonders
From the power of Iguazu Falls in the north, to the “end of the world” in Ushuaia in the south… Argentina’s natural splendor enchants the heart. The diversity of Patagonia alone is a highlight on any Argentina private tour. Take, for example, the Kingdom of Ice found in El Calafate. The mighty Perito Moreno glacier proves a powerful complement to such outdoor playgrounds as lake-ridden Bariloche and the climber paradise of El Chaltén. Then there is Ushuaia: the launching point for cruises through Tierra del Fuego and, of course, Antarctica . And do not forget such dynamo destinations as Iguazu Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world, as well as the Iberá Wetlands nearby. This protected reserve in northeast Argentina is home to an abundance of wildlife.
Luxury travel to Argentina would feel incomplete without a stop in the wine lands of Mendoza. This Malbec mecca does not just offer access to some of the finest wine producers in the world; it also allows you to taste the award-winning gastronomy of such masterminds as Francis Mallmann. The wine identity of Argentina does not stop in Mendoza, however. It also extends to the north in the Cafayate wine region where Torrontes reigns supreme.
City Sights
Looking for a bit of city spice? Then explore the vibrant and beautiful city of Buenos Aires, affectionately known as the “Paris of South America.” Luxury travel to Argentina will allow you to experience the richest parts of the culture. While here, take a tango lesson and visit a local milonga in Buenos Aires. Dine on a delicious dinner of empanadas and malbec. Stay at some of the most luxurious hotels on the continent. Alternatively, spend a day with the cowboys of South America, the gauchos, in an estancia just outside the city. Or simply indulge yourself in a “chocolate massage.” Indeed, Buenos Aires is a city of European-flavored sophistication sparked with Latin passion.

Argentina has many peculiarities that have traveled the world in the mouth of its visitors. The developed personality of its people is friendly, fun, and effusive. The typical gastronomy goes from the roast to the mate, passing through the regional dishes and snacks with dulce de leche. Traditional dances such as tango, the dance of couples at a rate of 2 by 4, were born in Buenos Aires in the nineteenth century. Today is spread internationally, or folklore, with the different choreographic forms it adopts in each region.
Therefore, the passion for football and fanaticism for its leading clubs and players, Boca Juniors and River Plate, are the most popular teams in Argentina. The fans fill the stadiums and provoke proliferating demonstrations of fanaticism in each of their meetings. Typical games like the Trick, a card game in which luck and the ability to lie or deceive the adversary prevail.
Meanwhile, the horse games on the city’s outskirts reveal the strong influence of Spanish culture and the persistence of old traditions. Of course, the personality that each particular region knew how to maintain and strengthen over the years.

Lightweight clothing is generally all that is required in the North. At the same time, warm clothes are certainly necessary in the South. However, in the mountains and during winter, the central area must carry waterproofs in all areas and bring good sunblock.

However, with so much to see and do, deciding when is the best time to visit Argentina can be challenging. We will discuss the different seasons in Argentina, the best time to visit each region, and the key factors to consider when planning your trip.
The Seasons in Argentina
Argentina has a diverse climate due to its varied geography. The country spans from the subtropical north to the sub-Antarctic south, resulting in a wide range of temperatures and weather patterns. The four seasons in Argentina are:
Summer (December to February) Autumn (March to May) Winter (June to August) Spring (September to November) The best time to visit Argentina largely depends on what you plan to do and see. Best Time to Visit Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, is a popular destination for tourists. The best time to visit Buenos Aires is during the spring (September to November) or the fall (March to May). The temperatures are mild, and the city is less crowded during these seasons. The summer months (December to February) can be hot and humid, with many residents leaving the city for vacations. The winter months (June to August) can be cold and rainy, making outdoor activities less enjoyable.
Best Time to Visit Patagonia
Patagonia is a vast region that spans Argentina and Chile. It is known for its stunning landscapes, including glaciers, mountains, and lakes. The best time to visit Patagonia is during the summer months (December to February) when the weather is mild and the days are long. However, it is essential to note that the region can be windy year-round, and the weather can change quickly. The winter months (June to August) can be cold and snowy, but they offer the opportunity to ski and snowboard.
Best Time to Visit Iguazu Falls
Iguazu Falls is a natural wonder located on the border of Argentina and Brazil. The best time to visit Iguazu Falls is during the spring (September to November) or the fall (March to May). Best Time to Visit the Andes Mountains
The Andes Mountains span several countries, including Argentina. The best time to visit the Andes Mountains depends on the specific activity you plan to do. For hiking and trekking, the best time to visit is during the summer months (December to February) when the weather is mild and dry. The winter months (June to August) are the best for skiing and snowboarding, as the snow conditions are ideal.
Best Time to Visit the Beaches
Argentina has several beautiful beaches, particularly along the Atlantic coast. The best time to visit the beaches is during the summer months (December to February) when the temperatures are warm, and the water is comfortable for swimming. However, it is essential to note that some beaches can be crowded during peak season, so it is best to plan ahead.
Best Time to Visit Festivals
Argentina is known for its vibrant festivals, including Carnival in Buenos Aires and the wine harvest festival in Mendoza. Food and drink.
Like many other aspects of Argentinian culture, its cuisine has been heavily influenced by European immigration. Mix Spanish and Italian flavors with Argentina's top quality (and affordable!) beef and dairy products, and you have a combination worth jumping on that long-haul flight for. Check our guide on all things food in South America .
It’s important to keep in mind that dinner is eaten late in Argentina. Most restaurants close in the afternoon and do not reopen until 8 pm, though locals typically don't actually begin dinner until 9 or 10 pm.
Here are some must-try dishes and drinks in Argentina:
With Spanish origins, asado describes succulent barbequed meat, slow-cooked on a metal frame over an open fire or a bed of hardwood charcoal. In Argentina, asado is equal parts a dish and a social gathering – both of which you'll want to experience.
2. Provoleta
Soft provolone cheese is grilled in a skillet and topped with oregano, chili flakes or other herbs. A typical asado starter, provoleta is crisp on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside and delicious all around.
3. Chimichurri
A piquant combination of diced garlic, chopped parsley and oregano, olive oil and vinegar, this classic Argentinean condiment is the quintessential accompaniment to grilled meat.
4. Malbec wine
Argentina has one of the world’s most renowned wine regions. Malbecs from the wineries of Mendoza are famous around the world (and happen to pair well with steak), though other provinces also produce quality wines, including Torrontes from Cafayate and Syrahs from San Juan.
5. Alfajores
Argentina’s favorite sweet biscuit. Take two round shortbreads, fill them with dulce de leche (a decadent caramel made from condensed milk) coat them in chocolate... et voila.
Argentineans take ice cream seriously. Don't miss helado de dulce de leche, the national flavor of Argentina.
7. Dulce de leche
Condensed milk is slowly reduced and sweetened to create a thick, sticky caramel. Find it in alfajores (a crumbly biscuit sandwich filled with dulce de leche), dessert empanadas, drizzled on ice cream or just eat it by the spoonful!
8. Yerba maté
This is Argentina's national drink. A caffeine-rich concoction of chopped and dried yerba maté is prepared in a gourd (maté) and drunk through a silver straw (bombilla). It's rich in antioxidants and polyphenols and has long been used by Indigenous people in South America.
Learn more about drinking mate in Argentina
Culture and customs
Argentinian culture and customs are influenced by the waves of European immigration that landed here in the 1880s and during the two World Wars. As a result of immigration, parts of the country feel notably more ‘European’ than other areas of South America.
Argentinians are famously affectionate, loud, passionate about football, and big fans of a good plate of homemade spaghetti. They have strong ties with family and friends, and the major religion is Catholicism.
As a general guide, these are some key things you should know about Argentina:
1. A kiss on the cheek is the most common way of greeting someone
Particularly a friend, but it’s not uncommon between strangers, especially if being introduced by a mutual friend. This is true whether it’s female on female, female on male or male on male.
2. If you befriend someone, expect hugs
Expect a farewell hug and a greeting hug thereafter. Again, this is true whether it’s female on female, female on male or male on male.
3. Expect to be late
Being late for social or cultural events is almost fashionable in Argentina, but it can be an annoyance for travelers.
4. Siesta time is still common
Siestas are particularly popular in provinces such as Mendoza, San Juan, Salta. Shops may close from 1pm to 4pm and reopen until around 8-9pm.
5. Dinner is late
Dinner with locals can be very late. Having dinner at 9pm, 10pm and 11pm is perfectly normal and accepted in Argentina, but can cause a few rumbling tummies with travelers. The best thing to do is keep some snacks with you and try and fall into the local pattern.
6. Nightlife is well and truly nightlife
Pubs, clubs and events don’t kick off until 1-2am…no kidding!
7. The majority of Argentinians are Catholic
Between 70-80% of the population are Catholic, and you should be respectful when visiting churches, cathedrals and religious events. The dress code at religious sites is quite relaxed and no one will get in trouble for attending mass in t-shirts, shorts and thongs. However, closed shoes and trousers are preferred. Swimwear is a big no-no and it can be very offensive to the locals.
8. Avoid talking about the Falkland Islands War
Talking about the Falkland Islands war still evokes raw emotions amongst Argentinians and it's well-advised not to raise the topic with people you don’t know.
Geography and environment
Bordered by Chile , Bolivia , Paraguay , Brazil and Uruguay , Argentina is South America's second-largest country. With a vast range of natural environments, traveling in Argentina presents a revolving door of terrain and landscapes.
From giant glaciers, gushing waterfalls and snow-topped granite pillars of Patagonia to the green grasslands of the Pampas (not to mention the lofty Andes of the north to the steamy wetlands of the north-east), Argentina contains a wealth of biodiversity.
Chile and Argentina both stake a claim over Patagonia. Check out our guide to help you decide which South American country to visit .
Top 5 tango spots in Argentina
1. confiteria ideal.
Be charmed by the grand building, old waiters and genuine tango classes that this Buenos Aires institution has been producing for more than 100 years. It might be a bit rough around the edges, but authenticity is guaranteed in this historic gem.
2. Barrancas de Belgrano
On the weekends, head to this leafy park at dusk to see unpretentious locals tango as the sun sets. Try out your tango steps, mix and mingle with Argentines and tourists, and enjoy the casual, fun vibe that proliferates under the park's gazebo.
3. Plaza Dorrego
This relaxed San Telmo favorite is a top spot for alfresco people-watching, tango viewing, wine drinking and socializing.
4. La Catedral
For a slice of old Argentina, head to this bewitching warehouse of kitsch where you can learn the art of tango with locals amid walls of old posters and a giant glowing, red heart. Lessons are taught in Spanish, and while the dancers here may not be technically great, their passion and love of tango are unquestionable.
5. Caminito
Purists may dismiss La Boca's showy street performers as 'tacky tangoists', but the colorful streets, flamboyant moves and suave outfits do have a bit of flair and provide quintessential Buenos Aires photo ops.

Many stores in Argentina allow travelers to shop tax-free. Look for a blue and white ‘Tax Free’ sign in store windows and make sure to ask for a Global Blue refund form when making your purchase. Get this form validated by a customs official at the airport when you're leaving the country (they’ll want to see the item and receipt as well), then take it to the Global Blue refund office to get your money back.
It’s a bit of a lengthy process, but it might be worth the effort depending on how much shopping you do.
Keep in mind that siesta is still common in some parts of Argentina. Many stores will close for a few hours in the afternoon and reopening times can be unpredictable.
Things to buy in Argentina
1. Leather goods
Leather goods are normally top of the shopping list for every traveler – and rightly so! The quality of leather products is excellent and prices can be significantly cheaper than at home. The most popular items are jackets, handbags, shoes, boots and belts. A word of warning though – be wary of cheap imitations!
2. Mate cup set
A popular tourist shop item, cups may be sold on their own with a straw, or as a set with loose-leaf mate as well. Quality and design can vary, so it pays to shop around.
A good bottle of Argentina’s famed Malbec can be bought for less than USD 10.
Festivals and events
Argentinians are a lively bunch and like to party. Below are four of the biggest festivals of the year.
1. Buenos Aires Tango Festival - August
Passion oozes from Buenos Aires’ streets as tango fills the city each August. Open-air milongas (dances), film screenings, dance classes and competitions featuring world-class dancers are all part of this sizzling two-week event.
2. Fiesta de la Vendimia (Grape Harvest Festival) - March
This week-long celebration kicks off Mendoza’s grape-picking season, and it's a barrel of fun! The festival features parades, folkloric events and a grand coronation, as hopefuls vie to be chosen as the new Harvest Queen.
3. Carnaval (or Carnival) - February/March
Huge crowds turn up ready to have a good time for carnival celebrations in cities across Argentina. Like in Brazil, parades are a cacophony of colors, featuring feathered and sequined costumes and elaborate floats. Taking place right before Ash Wednesday, the best parties are in Gualeguay-chu and Corrientes.
4. Dia de la Tradicion (Day of Tradition) - November
Argentina’s beret-clad, nomadic cowboys, otherwise known as gauchos, are something of a national symbol. Each year on November 10th, they are celebrated with horsemanship shows, folk music, dancing, tons of barbequed meat and a big gaucho parade in San Antonio de Areco, the symbolic center of gaucho culture.
Public holidays that may impact travel include:
- Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice
Veterans and Fallen of the Malvinas War Day
National Day
Independence Day
San Martin Day
Respect for Cultural Diversity Day
Day of National Sovereignty
Immaculate Conception
Please note dates of Argentina's public holidays may vary
Must-see cities in Argentina
1. buenos aires.
Buenos Aires is an elegant metropolis of colorful buildings, charming boulevards and cobbled laneways that lead to huge street murals. This city offers something for everyone from traditional cafe bars to trendy closed-door restaurants, speakeasy bars to tango clubs, and mercados to shopping malls.

Argentina travel faqs, do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.
Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards
From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).
However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.
Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.
When is the best time to visit Argentina?
Spanning over 4000 kilometres from its subtropical north to its subpolar south, the climate in Argentina is as diverse as its landscapes. Summer (December to February) is the best time to visit Patagonia as the weather is mild and hiking trails are accessible.
In contrast, Buenos Aires can be very hot, humid and busy in summer, so autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) may be better if you don't enjoy the heat or want to ditch the crowds.
Autumn is also a stunning time of year in Patagonia and Mendoza when golden colours dominate the landscape.
Iguazu Falls is spectacular all year, but it's a sight to behold in the wet season from December to March when monsoon rains create even more powerful cascades.
If you want to do an Antarctica cruise from Ushuaia, the world's southernmost city, the season runs from November to March when temperatures rise and sea ice melts enough to enable access for cruise ships.
Do I need a visa to visit Argentina?
Most travelers do not need a visa to enter Argentina. This includes visitors from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland and most other Western European countries.
Visa-exempt travelers will usually receive an entry stamp valid for 90 days on arrival. Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Argentina.
The page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

Is tipping customary in Argentina?
It is customary to tip about 10% at bars and restaurants. Some restaurants will add a ‘cover charge’ to your bill, but a tip is still expected in addition to this.
What is internet access like in Argentina?
Internet is easy to access in cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels in large cities and towns, but it may be limited in rural and remote areas.
Can I use my cell phone while in Argentina?
Cell phone coverage is very good in Argentina’s cities, but may not be available in rural and mountainous areas. Ensure global roaming is activated with your service provider before leaving home.
What are the toilets like in Argentina?
Western-style flushable toilets are the norm in Argentina. It’s a good idea to carry your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer, as they are not always provided. Some hotels and restaurants might have signs asking you to not flush toilet paper – the toilets are modern but the plumbing is not and clogs easily.
Can I drink the tap water in Argentina?
Tap water is safe to drink in Argentina unless otherwise marked. For environmental reasons, try to avoid buying bottled water and fill a reusable bottle instead.

Are credit cards widely accepted in Argentina?

What is ATM access like in Argentina?
ATMs are widely available in larger cities but are less common in small villages or rural areas. Make sure you have enough cash before leaving urban areas.
Do I need any vaccinations before visiting Argentina?
Visit your doctor or travel clinic for advice and make sure to schedule vaccinations 4-6 weeks before your departure date, as some require time to become effective.
Is Argentina a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers?
As a whole, Argentina is a welcoming destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers. In 2010, the country became the first Latin American nation to legalize same-sex marriage and Buenos Aires hosts the largest annual gay pride parade in South America.
A number of hotels, B&Bs, bars and nightclubs catering to the LGBTQIA+ community can be found in Buenos Aires as well. Though parts of the country, particularly smaller towns, are less tolerant. When in doubt, use discretion outside of large cities.
For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting Equaldex or ILGA before you travel.
Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?
Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

- BEST TIMES: Argentina has many microclimates, so plan according to the regions you’ll be visiting, but September-November (spring) and March-May (fall) are good times most places.
- ALSO CONSIDER: Higher altitudes and southern locations are warm and sunny December-February, when the north gets the summer heat. June-August is cool in the north but you may get some rain.

Discover Argentina
( 11 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis) Buenos Aires, El Calafate, Iguazu Falls
This private luxury tour features the iconic highlights of Argentina: Buenos Aires, Patagonia and Iguazu Falls.
Begin in vibrant Buenos Aires . With your own private guide and driver, visit the city’s most evocative neighborhoods such as San Telmo, La Boca, Palermo and Puerto Madero, and see highlights around the city such as the Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada and Recoleta Cemetery. Visit local museums according to your interests, such as the Evita Museum or MALBA, a museum of Latin American art. One evening, attend a top-rated tango performance at an intimate, upscale dinner theater. Also enjoy time to take advantage of the exciting contemporary art and design scene, world-class restaurants and great shopping. All touring is flexible and can be customized to incorporate special interests such as art, tango, polo, Jewish history, family activities, adventure, gastronomy and more.
Next, fly to El Calafate to experience southern Patagonia’s vast open steppe and the impressive peaks, glaciers and pale blue lakes of Los Glaciares National Park. One day, visit magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier—one of the few advancing glaciers in the world—to see (and hear!) icebergs calving from it, and perhaps enjoy a shared cruise or opt to take a guided trek on top of the glacier itself. Another day, enjoy exciting lodge-based activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching and horseback riding.
Return to Buenos Aires and if desired, take a private excursion to Tigre and the Parana River Delta to enjoy a relaxing private cruise on the canals of this “rural Venice,” passing gardens and upscale vacation houses.
Continue to Iguazu Falls , one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the world. Stay in a private villa at Awasi, an exclusive luxury lodge in the rainforest. With your private guide, venture onto catwalks to reach the most breathtaking views of Iguazu Falls, including the thundering Garganta del Diablo (“Devil’s Throat”). Depending on timing and interests, relax in your private plunge pool at Awasi or enjoy additional lodge-based activities such as kayaking on the river, hiking and birding in the rainforest, seeing the UNESCO-listed ruins of Jesuit missions, or visiting a local indigenous community.

Patagonia Luxury Tours, Argentina & Chile
The Land of the Giants - from the Perito Moreno Glacier to Torres del Paine
LUXURY TRAVEL PATAGONIA
Your luxury tour of Patagonia in Argentina and Chile will introduce you to one of the most awe-inspiring and remote regions of the world. Begin your private tour in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s modern capital. Explore the highlights of this cosmopolitan city, from the sophisticated Recoleta neighborhood to charming San Telmo and trendy Palermo. From there, your private tour continues in the town of El Calafate, deep in the Patagonian Steppe. This is the perfect base to explore the famous Perito Moreno glacier, located within Glaciers National Park. There, walk the catwalks, enjoy a boating excursion to witness the glacier up close, or even trek on the glacier itself. Your luxury tour of Patagonia continues as you are transferred in private across the border, to your lodge in Chilean Patagonia with a privileged location near Torres del Paine National Park. Spend the following days exploring the best trails of the region, such as the less crowded hike to Paso D´Agostini or a gentle hike to the Horns Lookout Point, passing by scenic waterfalls on the way. The highlight for active travelers will be the strenuous-yet-rewarding hike to the Base of the Towers for impressive, up-close views of the Paine Massif. Depending on your preferences, it is also possible to organize biking, horseback riding, or boating excursions. In the afternoons and evenings, make the most of your luxury travel experience in Patagonia by relaxing at your luxury lodge and enjoying the property’s amenities and luxurious spa area.

Buenos Aires (2 nights)
Upon arrival in the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, your personal host will take you by private transfer to your 5-star hotel of choice. On the first day of your luxury Argentina tour, with your expert guide, you will discover the chic neighborhood of Recoleta home to the world-renowned Recoleta cemetery. In the evening, dine at an authentic “parrilla” to savor some of the world’s best steak and malbec wine.
Begin the following day with a privately guided tour of the magnificent Teatro Colón. Visit the Plaza de Mayo with your private guide before continuing to the cobblestone streets of San Telmo with its artisans and antique shops. Alternatively, we can also organize a private biking tour through the gorgeous parks of the Palermo neighborhood, a personal shopper for insider access to the high-end Argentine shopping scene, or even a private tango lesson with a professional dancer. Following dinner, we will take you to the best tango show in town to watch this iconic dance firsthand.
El Calafate, Los Glaciares National Park (3 nights)
Fly into El Calafate to begin your luxury Patagonia tour. Your host will escort you by private transfer across the Patagonian steppe to the luxurious Eolo Lodge. This smartly designed property is located in the heart of the Anita Valley, surrounded by snow-capped mountains where you will spot wildlife species in their natural habitat. On your first afternoon, explore this beautiful valley by trekking, mountain biking or horseback riding through its unique trails.
The following day, take a private transfer to the Glaciers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Patagonia. This frozen wonderland of startlingly white and piercing blue ice is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. After a short boat ride across the bay, experience an ice-trekking excursion on the majestic Perito Moreno glacier crossing towering ice peaks, huge crevasses, turquoise creeks and icy lagoons with a specialized guide. Later, after a picnic lunch facing the glacier, visit the spectacular catwalks and balconies which offer breathtaking views of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
The next day, enjoy an exciting boating excursion through icebergs and turquoise water to witness the majestic Upsala Glacier and explore an authentic, century-old Patagonian estate, Estancia Cristina, tucked away in Patagonia’s remote wilderness. In the evenings, enjoy gourmet dinners at Eolo Lodge, with spectacular views of the valley.
Torres del Paine (3 nights)
Continue your luxury tour of Patagonia as you cross the border into Chile. Depart El Calafate for a private 5-hour drive to Torres del Paine National Park across the immense Patagonian steppe. For the best luxury travel experience in Patagonia, we recommend staying at Tierra Patagonia, Awasi Patagonia or Explora Patagonia. We will be happy to select one of these luxury lodges for you based on your personal preferences.
During your stay, choose from a variety of outdoor adventures to be enjoyed in private or in a small group. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the incredible natural beauty of the park as well as its wildlife, which includes condors and guanacos. As experts in the region, we will provide you with exciting excursion recommendations based on your interests and fitness level, such as the hike to the base of the Towers or a day in the French Valley of the National Park.
After a long day of discovery and exploration in the wilderness, unwind with a relaxing massage and enjoy an outdoor jacuzzi with expansive views of the Torres del Paine mountain range and the valley with animals grazing nearby. Spend the last evening of your private Patagonia tour indulging in a gourmet meal accompanied by vintage Chilean wines.
On your final morning, take a private transfer to Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas, where you will receive airport assistance before your flight to Santiago de Chile to catch your international flight home.

Travel Tips for Your Argentina Trip
When is the best time to visit argentina.
The best time to visit Argentina is during the Southern Hemisphere’s fall and winter, from April to July, or during the Southern Hemisphere’s spring and summer, from October to January.
The temperatures in cities like Mendoza and Buenos Aires are consistently comfortable during the spring and early summer or fall and early winter, but the most dramatic changes in temperatures take place in the Subantarctic south at Patagonia during the winter months from May to September when snow and wind arrive, or the tropical north at Iguazu during the summer months from December to February when the region sees a large increase in rainfall. In the shoulder season of spring and fall, you will have fewer crowds and better temperatures to enjoy the entire country, top to tip.
While these are our favorite months, Argentina is a year-round destination with the Southern Hemisphere’s summer and winter popular with travelers for their own reasons. Whether visiting the Lake District in January or eager to find wildlife in Iberá, our guide on the best time to visit Argentina can help you find the right time of year for your trip.

An ex-Wall Street banker who's visited every country shares 6 places where you can spend less and still travel in luxury
- Lee Abbamonte, 45, is an ex-Wall Street banker who has visited every country in the world.
- When it comes to destinations where dollars go the furthest, Southeast Asia is his go-to.
- In Bangkok, Abbamonte paid less than $50 a night for a Shangri-La hotel and loved the street food.
![luxury tour argentina Insider Today](https://www.businessinsider.com/public/assets/BI/US/logos/newsletters/insider-today-logo.png)
This summer is shaping up to be one of the hottest on record for the US economy .
Household wealth is at a record high, the job market is strong, and wages are rising faster than inflation. Meanwhile, the dollar has steadily gained against rival currencies. Simply put, Americans have dollars to spend. One question they might have: Where, oh where, to spend it?
Lee Abbamonte has some suggestions. Abbamonte, who quit his Wall Street finance job to become a travel blogger in 2002, has visited every country in the world, every US state , plus the South and North Poles.
Abbamonte's go-to for getting the most bang for your travel buck is Southeast Asia .
In countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, luxury hotels can cost under $100 a night and street food can be as delicious as fine dining, Abbamonte said.
One downside is that traveling to Southeast Asia from the US can take anywhere from 15 hours to more than a day.
"The hardest part is getting there," added Abbamonte, who last visited the region between 2017 and 2019. "But once you're there, you're in heaven."
Here, Abbamonte shares six countries — in Southeast Asia and beyond — where your vacation budget can buy some indulgent splurges.
During a past trip to Thailand, Abbamonte stayed in a five-star hotel for less than $50 a night.
Thailand is one of Abbamonte's favorite destinations in Southeast Asia, for good reason.
In Bangkok, he said, street food is world-class and high-quality yet inexpensive compared to comparable meals in the US. Abbamonte stayed at several stunning hotels along the Chao Phraya River, which flows through the heart of the city.
"I remember I paid like $39 for the Shangri-La," he said.
A one-night stay at the Shangri-La in Bangkok is a bit more expensive now, according to its website : $162 as of June 2024.
Outside Bangkok, Abbamonte can't get enough of Phuket, an island off the west coast of mainland Thailand brimming with rainforest and white sandy beaches that look straight out of a postcard.
"Some of the best hotels I've ever stayed at in my life are in Phuket," he said. His favorite is Kata Rocks, an oceanfront five-star hotel that is "one of the most beautiful places" Abbamonte has ever been.
"I don't remember exactly what it cost, but it wasn't that much," Abbamonte said, estimating that he spent "around $100" a night.
In July 2024, a one-night stay at Kata Rocks in Phuket costs more than $490 according to its website . That may not seem cheap, but villas in more expensive locations like the Caribbean can cost a lot more.
Vietnam is exceedingly affordable for its stunning vistas and delicious delicacies, he said.
Vietnam is one of Abbamonte's top countries in South Asia, where "the food is cheap and easy, and it's fantastic."
The country is home to some awe-inspiring natural wonders, including Ha Long Bay, which you can explore via luxury overnight cruises with amenities like pools, jacuzzis, and wine cellars from about $190 a night.
"Ha Long Bay, near Hanoi, is one of the most beautiful places in the world," Abbamonte said.
Tourists can also get great deals, he added, in the artsy and history-rich city of Hanoi, the coastal city of Da Nang, and Vietnam's southern capital, Ho Chi Minh City.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Abbamonte recommends stopping by the War Remnants Museum. Known locally as the American War Museum , an adult ticket costs 40 Vietnamese dong, or around $1.50.
Home to exhibits on the Vietnam War and the First Indochina War, Abbamonte said it's his "favorite" museum outside the US.
Money goes a long way in Cambodia, home to a world-class beach scene that relatively few know about.
Another one of Abbamonte's favorite places to splurge without spending too much is Cambodia.
Sandwiched between Thailand and Vietnam, the country is affordable in all the ways that its neighbors are but is more off the beaten path.
"There aren't the tourists you get in Thailand and Vietnam," Abbamonte said.
Most tourists visit Cambodia to see Angkor Wat, an ancient Hindu-Buddhist temple complex near the city of Siem Reap. Abbamonte said the temple, which costs $37 to visit for a day, is worth seeing, but added that the country has so much more to offer.
"There's a lot more going on outside Angkor Wat," he said. "They have nice beaches, and they've really improved their infrastructure."
Some of the most idyllic seaside spots are situated on the tiny islands off of the coastal city of Sihanoukville, like Saracen Bay, a beach on Koh Rong Samloem.
Argentina has some amazing steakhouses that are generally more affordable than their US counterparts.
Abbamonte said many Americans sleep on Argentina, but that it's one of the most affordable, exciting, and pleasant places to visit in South America.
He's particularly fond of Patagonia, a region of mountains, glacial lakes, grasslands, and rainforests that runs through both Argentina and Chile across the southernmost tip of South America.
It's as close to paradise as it gets for Abbamonte, who loves being outdoors — and it doesn't hurt that food and accommodation are inexpensive.
"You can go down there and live it up real cheaply," he added.
The capital of Buenos Aires is also a must-see, Abbamonte added, because it's home to an array of luxury hotels and high-quality steakhouses where American dollars go a long way.
One of his favorite eateries is La Cabrera, a steakhouse in the trendy Palermo Soho neighborhood of Buenos Aires that offers a daily 40% happy hour discount on food and drinks between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. (One blogger who reviewed their La Cabrera meal during a 2023 trip said, at the time, a 21-ounce ribeye cost the equivalent of $45.)
"I'm a meat eater," Abbamonte admitted. "So if you like steak, there's really nowhere better."
Ethiopia offers affordable safari options in awe-inspiring wildlife reserves.
"Ethiopia is one place that I love," Abbamonte said. "It's definitely in my top five African countries."
In the past, he's flown into the capital city of Addis Ababa and stayed in five-star hotels for $100 a night. "They're really, really nice, and you can eat world-class meals for virtually nothing," he added.
While booking safari-type vacations can be "pretty expensive," Abbamonte said more adventurous travelers can always consider camping, which he did during his first trips 20 years ago.
At the time, he said, buying supplies, organizing transport within the park, and getting camping permits cost him between $100 and $200.
For example, foreign tourists visiting the Simien Mountains National Park pay 90 birrs, or around $1.50, for a 24-hour pass and an additional 40 birrs, less than $1, to camp in a tent with up to four people.
Compared to some luxury lodges, it's incredibly affordable, and "you get all the same animals," Abbamonte said, adding that he felt completely safe, given all the park rangers roaming around.
Abbamonte said there's never been a better time to visit Japan, one of his favorite countries in the world.
Japan isn't typically the first country that comes to mind for affordable travel, but Abbamonte said it's never been a better time to book a trip because, as of June 25, $1 buys 159.72 yen.
It's one of the best conversion rates in recent history.
"It's as cheap as it's ever been for the American dollar right now," Abbamonte said. "In Tokyo, the hotels are slashed to a third less than they normally are."
For example, at the Hilton Tokyo, a five-star hotel in the bustling Shinjuku district, one-night stays start at under $300 a night, according to its website .
Abbamonte said Japan is worth the trek — and the steeper prices compared to Southeast Asia — for the unique experiences it offers.
From the Kobe beef in Kobe and the bustling streets of Tokyo to the omakase scene in Osaka and the tranquility and history of Kyoto, there's "nowhere" in Japan Abbamonte doesn't like.
"It's probably the best country in the world," he said.
