The Cheeky Panda’s bamboo toilet paper is the most cost effective option we have tried so far — and we have tried many (read all about it in our Big Bamboo Toilet Paper Roundup Review ) , but the size of roll leaves a bit to be desired. As with most bamboo toilet paper options, it’s also not the softest — but if you want bamboo TP at a great price, The Cheeky Panda is a solid option!

The paper itself is made from Bamboo, which can grow 3ft in just 24 hours — it can be harvested once a year and doesn’t need to be replanted. Where & How Costco's Kirkland Toilet Paper Is Actually Made

C ostco's ubiquitous Kirkland brand is famous for being mysterious and sometimes surprising -- rumors have spread in the past about its store-brand products being fronts for items of much higher quality (although it turns out that the rumor about Kirkland-brand vodka bottles actually containing Grey Goose vodka is unfortunately untrue). You may be wondering about where other Kirkland brand items originate from, including the ever-affordable Kirkland toilet paper.

Costco does not own its own manufacturing facilities. Instead, its toilet paper is made by partners like Georgia-Pacific, an American company that also makes Angel Soft and Quilted Northern toilet paper. The European company Sofidel also manufactures some of Costco's toilet paper.

In the U.S., Kirkland toilet paper is harvested and manufactured not too far from Kirkland, Washington, the birthplace of Costco itself and the namesake of the Kirkland brand. Kirkland toilet paper is sourced from Canada's boreal forest and processed within Canada before it hits Costco locations worldwide. While Costco's toilet paper may be on the cheaper side, future generations may be paying a price for your grocery bill savings. Environment America reported in 2023 that Kirkland toilet paper is made from virgin wood fibers as opposed to sustainable or recycled paper products. Though the wood and processing varies depending on the manufacturer, in the U.S., wood for Costco toilet paper comes from logging old Canadian forests that have existed for thousands of years and provide homes to a wide variety of species.

Steps You Can Take To Make Your Toilet Trips More Eco-Friendly

Costco's signature brand is not alone in its contribution to environmental degradation through toilet paper manufacturing. Many popular toilet paper brands are not eco-friendly. In a 2020 report , the brands Charmin, Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, and Target's branded up & up Soft and Strong toilet paper were found to be made in a process that uses a high proportion of forest wood. Cottonelle, Scott, Trader's Joe's Super Soft Bath Tissue, and the deceivingly named Sustainably Soft toilet paper from Whole Foods' 365 Everyday Value brand all were found to use proportions of wood that are lower but still environmentally problematic.

If you would like to reduce your carbon footprint by preserving tree life, there are a number of toilet paper brands that environmental organizations have found use more recycled content or more sustainably sourced materials, meaning new trees do not have to be cut down to manufacture their tissue. Some brands that use recycled paper include Seventh Generation, Marcal, Green Forest, and Earth First. Other newer companies like Who Gives A Crap and The Cheeky Panda are also great options for eco-friendly consumers.

One way to eliminate the issue of tree usage completely is to give up toilet paper altogether. Bidets and electronic Japanese-style toilets that use water to cleanse your nether regions have surged in popularity in recent years. You'll still need toilet paper with these alternatives, but you'll use far less of it.

Yosemite Park officials scold visitors about dirty habit that's 'all too familiar'

Yosemite’s National Park Service urged visitors to keep things “clean and classy” recently, offering toilet paper disposal advice in a cheeky new post. 

NPS took to Instagram Monday to shed light on a sight of the toilet tissue variety, one that has become “all too familiar” at the California park, even in wilderness areas. 

“Picture this: Yosemite's majestic wilderness, stunning vistas, and... surprise! Used toilet paper waving hello near Rancheria Falls— a full roll too!” NPS wrote in the caption. 

The Park Service warns that the most common technique to dispose of toilet paper, by way of burial, is easily exposed by weather or erosion and can be dug up by animals looking for nesting material. 

NPS offers a solution for visitors who have to respond when nature calls, stating that a sealable plastic baggie is a good place to stash all used and unused toilet paper. And they add that the bag be covered with tape “so you don't have to look at it.”

“Because really, nobody wants to stumble upon a surprise package left behind by an anonymous outdoor enthusiast … Let's keep things clean and classy out there, by packing out whatever you carry in,” NPS concluded. 

Proper waste disposal is easy, NPS says

The "cheeky" post has garnered thousands of like and hundreds of comments since it was shared on Monday.

A majority of those who commented agreed with the Park Service's stance, offering alternative options like dog poop bags, travel bidet, an antimicrobial pee cloth, cleaning yourself with water as well as placing dryer sheets or baking soda in the bag to mask smell.

"Sadly I see this all too often and it’s only getting worse. If you’re too lazy to take it back out after carrying it in, DON’T go. The wilderness doesn’t want you," Tina Grimm wrote in the comments.

NPS offers guidelines for how to dispose of waste properly online, offering four simple tips so visitors #LeaveNoTrace.

• Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food, and litter. As appropriate, pack out trash you find.
• Deposit solid human waste in catholes dug in soil six inches deep at least 100 feet from water, camp, and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished.
• Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products.
• To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 100 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater.

Our journey to brilliant bamboo loo roll and beyond began in early 2016 when co-founders Julie and Chris took a trip to South-East Asia and saw the amount of surplus bamboo going to waste. “We’re not having that!” they said in unison (probably). Utilising their entrepreneurial minds, they got to work and that is how The Cheeky Panda was born. Fast forward a few years and along came baby Leo – our head of quality control (he does a great job!).

Our ‘Daily Essentials’ Kits are filled with at least 10 different everyday essentials such as shampoo, body wash, socks, and deodorant. We also offer our ‘Rinse Free Necessities’ Kits which still includes many of the same items such as socks and dental care but also includes items like shower free body wipes and SPF to ensure we are meeting the needs of neighbors who may not have regular shower access. All of our kits are assembled within reusable water-resistant and mold proof tote bags.

Receiving sites we support choose the supplies to receive ensuring we are always delivering the community's most pressing needs. Selections can be based upon item size, culturally appropriate needs, scent, by age, and so forth.

The disruptive mindset that led JetBlue founder David Neeleman to launch 5 different airlines

Good morning. I first met JetBlue founder David Neeleman when he was checking my bag onto a JetBlue flight at JFK Airport. This wasn’t some staged stunt. He looked uncomfortable when I said, “Hey, aren’t you the CEO of JetBlue?” In a world where you were lucky to get pretzels and a smile, this was the airline with cheeky attendants, blue chips, a TV in every seat, and, apparently, a chief executive who occasionally worked the airport floor.

Thinking differently is the through-line of Neeleman’s aviation career in which he’s founded five different airlines.

He left JetBlue after a 2007 ice storm created so much chaos that it cost him his job. A year later, he launched another carrier, Azul Brazilian Airlines, to open up air travel to underserved routes in the country where he was born and served as a Mormon missionary. The concept of flying was so new to many travelers there that I recall him telling me how some brought their own toilet paper on board. He changed his marketing and services to help new fliers adjust. He’s also been a pioneer by having reservations agents work from home and giving pilots work-life balance . 

At Fortune Brainstorm Tech this week, Neeleman, now the CEO of Breeze Airways, talked about the power of differentiating through better service in an era when customers are especially unhappy . He launched Breeze in 2018 to focus on smaller cities, where 90% of routes have no non-stop competition , and to challenge the premiere carriers in the U.S. airline industry, which has gotten increasingly top-heavy since President Jimmy Carter deregulated it in 1978. The country’s four largest carriers now control about four-fifths of domestic traffic , primarily out of large cities where one carrier often dominates.

Neeleman understands the role that government continues to play in commercial aviation. When the federal government deregulated aviation, it also launched the Essential Air Service program to subsidize carriers that made otherwise unprofitable flights to small rural airports. Breeze recently applied to serve one of those subsidized routes. 

Neeleman’s knack for disruption is not just a strategy but a mindset. When I told him years ago that one of my children had recently been diagnosed with ADHD—knowing he had it, too—his response was, “Congratulations! He’ll spot patterns that no one else will ever see.”

The end of ‘Summer Fridays’

The practice of letting employees sign out a few hours early at the end of the week is going away. Only 11% of employees said their offices offered “Summer Fridays” in 2023, down from 55% in 2019, according to a Gartner report. The reason, say HR experts, is that many workers are working from home on Friday already; companies think they’re “giving so much flexibility to our employees already,” says Mae Mendoza, a senior manager at Robert Walters. Netflix beats expectations

Netflix reported $9.5 billion in quarterly revenue, a 17% increase, as well as 8 million new paid subscribers, almost double what analysts expected. The streaming company’s password-sharing crackdown and a new, lower-cost add-supported tier are helping to drive up subscriber numbers. Still, Netflix’s good numbers may not be quite good enough for investors: Shares remained flat in extended trading. Fortune

‘High-quality development’

Chinese officials promised to support “high-quality development” after a key four-day-long policy meeting, yet gave few indications that Beijing will step in to revive the country’s flagging economy. Real estate was only mentioned once in the 4,000-word announcement, implying that Beijing won’t engage in a massive rescue package for the slumping property sector. Shares of mainland Chinese companies traded in Hong Kong fell over 2% on Friday. Bloomberg
