Travel GSH and an Individual Convicted for Unlicensed Travel Agent Activities

Singapore, 9 November 2016  – The  Singapore Tourism Board (STB)  would like to inform the public that Mr Too Chon Seng and Travel GSH Pte Ltd have been convicted in the State Courts today of the following offences:

Too was found to have started his unlicensed travel agent activities in 2010 under his company Choon Seng Travel Tours Pte Ltd (CSTT). While he claimed to be a freelance agent acting on behalf of a licensed travel agent, Travel GSH Pte Ltd (TGSH), investigations revealed that Too had in fact operated as an unlicensed travel agent in his own right by organising and conducting tours, and arranging for coach charters and airline tickets, with the abetment of TGSH.

​Despite being aware that Too did not have a valid travel agent licence for CCST, TGSH organised and conducted tours arranged and sold by Too, and secured chartered coaches and airline tickets sold by Too, thereby abetting Too's unlicensed travel agent activities. The profits made were distributed between Too and TGSH.

The STB takes a serious view against those who engage in unlicensed travel agent activities and those who abet such activities, and will not hesitate to take action to protect consumers' interests and uphold the reputation of Singapore's tourism sector.

Under Section 6 of the Travel Agents Act, any person found guilty of carrying on the business of a travel agent without a valid travel agent licence faces a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to two years. Under Section 109 of the Penal Code, whoever abets any such offence shall be punished with the same punishment provided for the offence.

The public is advised to exercise care when making travel arrangements. SSM Health’s new general surgeon brings advanced endoscopic imaging procedure to Good Samaritan Hospital

Mt. Vernon, IL – SSM Health Medical Group in Illinois welcomes general surgeon, Anupam Gupta, MD who specializes in treating digestive concerns and diseases. Dr. Gupta is trained in the latest best practices and uses current endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) technology to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and disorders. With the expansion of SSM Health’s general surgery services, patients can access advanced digestive health imaging and care closer to home.

Anupam Gupta, MD received his bachelor’s degree in medicine, a Master of Surgery, and completed a general surgery residency in Bangalore, India. He then came to the United States where he completed general surgery residencies at both the University of Chicago in Chicago, IL, and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Between his residencies, Dr. Gupta did a burn and critical care fellowship at John H. Stroger Junior Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, IL. Dr. Gupta completed an endoscopic ultrasound tutorial at the University of Montreal in Montreal, Canada followed by a minimally invasive and surgical endoscopy fellowship at the University of Miami in Miami, FL.

Dr. Gupta is board-certified in general surgery with fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery, and advanced endoscopic surgery. He treats patients 18 years or older for a wide variety of conditions utilizing minimally invasive techniques and endoscopy to minimize post procedure pain for a quicker recovery time.

Good Samaritan opens first freestanding hospice house in Roanoke Valley

The nonprofit hopes to begin accepting patients in september.

ROANOKE, Va. – Good Samaritan Hospice, a community-based nonprofit, hopes its new freestanding hospice house will help address a need for services in the region.

The 16-bed facility, called the Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House, is set to welcome patients this fall on a hilltop over Peters Creek Road in Roanoke.

On Wednesday, CEO of Good Samaritan, Aaron Housh gave 10 News a tour of the new facility.

“I think as you take a look around and as you can see around, we designed this to be as home-like as possible. What do people have in their home? They have a kitchen, they have a dining room, they have living space...there’s a little spot in the back for a children’s area,” Housh said.

Housh began the search for the property in 2019. He wanted the new facility to be located just 15 minutes away from the two major health systems in the area, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and LewisGale Medical Center. He also wanted it close to Interstate 81 to make it easy to travel to for people who live outside the city.

It’s estimated that more than 78,000 people over the age of 60 live within the service area of the Local Office on Aging , which includes Roanoke, Craig, Alleghany, Botetourt and Roanoke counties, and the cities of Roanoke, Salem and Covington, according to data from the University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.

The nearest hospice houses to Roanoke are in Beckley, West Virginia, and in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“It’s not just Southwest Virginia, it’s the entire country...aging at a very fast rate,” Housh said.

The hospice house provides wraparound services for its patients and families including pain management, bereavement counseling and will have the capability to provide ICU support.

Good Samaritan will continue its at-home services but the hospice house will allow for a type of care that may not be available at home.

“I really just think it’s because the needs of patients are changing. Number one with the aging populations, there’s a lot more patients that need hospice care and palliative care at the end of life,” Housh said. “When you think about 250 patients that we’re serving in a day, it’s probably easy to say 5% of those patients are having issues that are hard to manage at home.”

In total, the project will cost $13 million, and as the capital campaign continues, the nonprofit will need to raise another $1.7 million in the next six months to complete the project.
