Frequently asked questions about KAYAK

How do i find travel deals on kayak.

Simply use one of our travel search engines to scan for prices gathered from hundreds of travel sites. KAYAK’s search results pages have loads of filter options to help you find deals, discover exactly what you’re looking for and make booking seamless. Plus, there’s no extra fee from KAYAK.

What makes KAYAK a great travel app?

On the KAYAK app for iOS and Android you’ll find all the great travel offers found on the website and much more. There are special mobile rates and app only deals that allow you to save even more money. Plus, you can get notifications straight to your phone letting you know when prices for your next trip have dropped. But the KAYAK app is much more than just a travel app. Use the Trips function to manage your travel itinerary and get up to date status alerts on flights, check-in changes and to store your boarding pass. Even if you’re in the middle of nowhere on your travels, you can still access your travel notes via Trips, as no internet connection is required.

How can I use KAYAK to manage my travel bookings?

KAYAK Trips creates a travel itinerary for you that will give you flight status alerts, can be shared with friends and more. Simply forward your booking confirmations to [email protected] or use the KAYAK app and sync your email account to keep all your travel plans organized in one app, even if you didn’t book with KAYAK. You can share your holiday plans with friends and family and also check out your travel stats for past vacations, like how far you’ve traveled, your most popular cities and how many times you’ve traveled around the world. Even if you don’t have signal, don’t worry, as you can access Trips to check out your itineraries whilst on the road. Your data is safe and secure with us and you won’t have to re-enter credit card info when booking future trips. If you want to make changes or cancel bookings, then you should contact the travel provider, which is provided on the booking confirmation.

What are KAYAK Price Alerts?

Instead of manually checking back in on the price of your next flight or stay, let KAYAK do the hard work for you with KAYAK Price Alerts. Once you’ve saved your search, our data will determine how the price will rise or fluctuate over the coming days. You’ll then get a push notification letting you know when’s the perfect time to book.

Search flights , hotels , rental cars , travel guides and more with KAYAK. KAYAK searches hundreds of other travel sites at once to get you the information you need to make the right decisions.

Know Before You Go

Look closely at included amenities.

While the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic offer a variety of activities and dining options with broad appeal, many also cater to specific interests. For example, if you want to spend your days out on the water, you might prefer a property that offers complimentary water sports rather than a spot that charges for gear rentals. Similarly, if you love to eat on vacation, you may prefer a resort with many dining options.

Location, Location, Location

Most of the Dominican Republic's best adults-only all-inclusive resorts are in Punta Cana. Here, dozens of resorts dot the shoreline. The vibrant resort town — divided into several neighborhoods (including Bavaro Beach, Uvero Alto, and Cap Cana) — is known for its beaches. That said, resorts in La Romana offer stunning stretches of sand sans crowds, making it an excellent choice to escape the hustle and bustle.

Envision Your Vacation

Before you book, consider what kind of vacation you want. Some travelers prefer a lively, party atmosphere. But you want to avoid finding yourself in a resort with robust nighttime entertainment offerings and regular themed parties if you prefer a serene escape spent doing nothing but sipping cocktails by the pool or beach. Be sure you have a vision of your desired vacation so you can book a property that aligns with your preferences.

Consider the Season

The best time to visit the Dominican Republic — and the Caribbean , for that matter — ultimately depends on your budget, interests, and vacation style. According to Hand, the cheapest time to visit is during the low season (May through early November), which coincides with hurricane season. Although you run the risk of heavy rainfall and storms, many properties offer indoor activities (such as dance lessons, cooking demos, and crafting) and top-notch spas and fitness centers where you can have inside fun. Pro tip: Keep an eye on the weather and purchase travel insurance.

Conversely, the high season lasts from December through April. “December through February tends to be the most expensive time to travel,” Hand says. Though, you can sometimes find deals between March and May. "It’s important to be mindful of spring break travel times,” she says. “Many properties do have pretty strict spring break rules.”

How We Chose These Hotels

For this piece, travel writer Lauren Dana Ellman sifted through dozens of adults-only, all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic. She researched each property’s inclusions, amenities, rooms and suites, and location to narrow down the top picks. In addition to combing through hundreds of user reviews and ratings, she also tapped T+L A-list advisor Margie Hand, who shared her personal recommendations and top picks. Several resorts on this list are T+L favorites, and one, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, took home a coveted World’s Best Award . All of our hotel recommendations align with the T+L Hotel Values .

13 Best Affordable All-Inclusive Resorts for a Dreamy Vacation That Won’t Break the Bank

The cheapest all-inclusive vacations.

D reaming of a luxurious all-inclusive resort vacation but traveling on a budget ? As it turns out, your bucket-list trip may be well within your price range. All-inclusive family resorts , adults-only all-inclusive resorts and even the best all-inclusive resorts don’t necessarily come with a high price tag. Cheap all-inclusive resorts are definitely a thing.

With a baker’s dozen of options for you to choose from, it’s up to you to decide which types of affordable all-inclusive resorts make the most sense for you and your family. And once you’ve sorted out where you want to travel next, be sure to familiarize yourself with our all-inclusive resort tips  so you can get the most out of every joyous minute you’re staying there.

How we chose the best affordable all-inclusive resorts

We focused on resorts priced around $350 or less per night for two people. Our choices are based on expert recommendations, user reviews, star ratings and on-the-ground knowledge from within the all-inclusive travel industry. But price isn’t everything. For some of our picks, the value of the experience—whether that’s upgraded food, recently renovated rooms, more amenities or special focuses—gave it top billing over the cheapest all-inclusive hotel option.

What are all-inclusive resorts, and why are they a good value?

The term all-inclusive resort typically means that the cost of your entire stay is covered at the price you paid when you booked the trip. Snacks, drinks, all meals, a daily program of activities, non-motorized water sports, pool and beach access and towel service—and of course, your room—are all factored into the total cost of your stay. Which is a big assist for budget-minded travelers who are keeping a close eye on their cash flow.

That said, there are always opportunities for upgrades that you will pay extra for, like a bottle of wine or spa treatments. So if you’re not sure if the price is included for something you’d like to try, be sure to ask before you book an activity.

How to get the best affordable all-inclusive resort deals

In my experience working for more than a decade in the travel industry, to get the best deal on a cheap all-inclusive vacation, the best time to book a hotel is early. Or alternatively, play chicken and see if you can score a last-minute deal. Because prices fluctuate based on demand times, prices for our selected properties might be higher during peak season (also known as high season). For instance, you will see a spike in all-inclusive resort rates as well as airfares during times when people are looking for warm winter getaways and during spring break.

On the other hand, prices below our max budget may be found during the off-season, where you might face a higher likelihood of inclement weather. While it may be tempting to snag the lowest rates of the year, remember to look at all the angles. Shoulder season is the sweet spot between pricier rates and the lower cost of the off-season.

It even hosts a tailored Autism All-Inclusive Week each year.

Best for teens

Hard rock hotel riviera maya, mexico.

It can be hard to get a teen to buy into a family vacation —but not when you promise it’ll rock hard. That’s practically a guarantee at this large all-inclusive property in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. Rooms are spacious and decorated in warm, rich tones, but that’s not what makes it hot. Teens have access to some super-sweet amenities that will have them rethinking how cool a vacay with the ‘rents can be.

Dance contests, music quizzes, water balloon fights and paddle board lessons are all on their list of activities, and teens can play in the HyperX Gaming Lounge—which is fully equipped with Xboxes, Nintendo Switches, gaming PCs and a VR station—until midnight. Then there’s the Music Lab for serious bragging rights. But everyone’s a kid at the on-site Rockaway Bay Water Park.

  • Teen-friendly features, including a gaming lounge, music lab and water park
  • Mature and tween-geared amenities and programs
  • Diverse range of dining options for picky eaters

Best for couples

Royalton chic punta cana, dominican republic.

Modern, swanky and sexy, this newer adults-only offshoot of the Royalton resort brand is designed to keep things spicy. Stylish, ultra-contemporary suites with underlit DreamBeds are another spot to rest your eyes … or not. Included 24-hour room service lets you stay in bed or on your private balcony or terrace, but reservation-free dining at seven restaurants means date night during your romantic getaway is only steps away.

For the different love languages couples may share, fitness facilities, a spa and a casino let guests choose the way they want to make memories. But novelty acts like CHIC Angels—who appear without fail at the weekly foam party at the oversized pool—and a mermaid pool give couples something new to talk about at every turn. Any lulls in conversation and connection should be reserved for dozing off on the goldenrod sands of Uvero Alto.

Best for travelers with dietary restrictions

Grand palladium punta cana resort & spa, dominican republic.

Rather than a place for all you can eat, this resort is where anyone can eat. That’s thanks to an allergy-conscious program created with dietitians and strictly enforced by chefs and food-prep staff. Guests are asked to identify their food allergies at check-in and are issued a color-coded bilingual card that also gives them a cheat sheet for buffet selections and menu items at any a la carte restaurant.

Lovers of warm-water beaches will also enjoy access to the neighboring Grand Palladium Bavaro Resort & Spa and Grand Palladium Palace Resort & Spa, which means access to 13 bars and six beach bars throughout the complex. The resort also offers a sports center—or you can reserve one of four badminton, six hard-floor tennis, four paddleball or six pétanque courts. You can relax in the spacious, contemporary rooms, whose dimensions start at 376 square feet, or settle into your own personal hydro-massage bath.

  • Global a la carte restaurant themes go beyond the expected
  • Kids will love the pool with a pirate ship

Best for eco-friendliness

Bahia principe grand tulum, mexico.

Learning to appreciate different cultures and the world around us is one of the best parts of traveling, and it’s never too early to teach that lesson. This recently renovated eco-friendly resort offers a multitude of fun ways for children to discover that, from a kids’ club with 10 Mayan-themed play areas—including a zip line and a water park—to planned activities, such as archeological digs and stories about the ancient gods of the jungle.

The Eco Bahia program puts an environmental slant on its teachings and is part of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts’ commitment to responsible travel. This focus has won the resort multiple awards for sustainability and social and environmental responsibility , which is even more impressive when you consider the breadth of what it offers: six restaurants, a buffet that has its own kids’ section, a teens’ club designed with input from actual teens and exchange privileges with free shuttle service every 10 minutes to nearby Bahia Principe Grand Coba.

  • Committed to ecological conservation through water, waste, energy and recycling programs
  • Meticulously maintained white-sand beach
  • Extensive kids services and attractions with an emphasis on local culture, history and the environment

Best for a character-themed vacation

Nickelodeon punta cana, dominican republic.

Can’t get enough Nick Jr. or Nick at Nite throwbacks? The Nickelodeon hotel in Punta Cana is a fully immersive experience into the world of Nickelodeon, and the whole cast of characters is present and accounted for. The crew from PAW Patrol , Dora the Explorer , Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , Fairly OddParents , SpongeBob SquarePants and all of their friends pop up daily, and scheduled “slime” dumps at the water park—for which admission is also included—are all part of any trip here. The rooms are also decorated with the channel’s style in mind, including splashes of that signature orange, but given the polish of contemporary luxury .

Novelty restaurants in the nine-restaurant Gourmet Village range from space-inspired dining to a gorgeous marketplace with cooking stations, proving that wanting a kid-at-heart, playful experience doesn’t have to come at the expense of grown-up taste.

  • No additional cost for character encounters
  • Certified Autism Center since 2018
  • Plentiful amenities for families with kids of all ages
  • Smaller rooms for the money

Best for entertainment

Grand oasis cancún, mexico.

The Grand Oasis Cancún is party central in the heart of Cancún’s all-inclusive haven, the Hotel Zone. It takes its cue from Las Vegas but adds plenty of Mexican spice for something really special. Bungee, tightropes, beach soccer and water slides also make fellow guests part of the entertainment.

At the open-air bar Zocalo, a DJ spins three times a week, and a live band and Mexican or Caribbean celebrations take place the other four. Multiple other venues take the spotlight once the sun sets: the Oasis Arena features concerts by international artists—and is known to host a boxing championship or two. Fire and drum shows take place at the Atrium theater, but for something more risqué, the Kinky Night Club, featuring burlesque, live music and sketch acts, draws in revelers. Then there’s the 24-hour casino, plus 13 restaurants to choose from. Or go for the extra-cost sensory gastronomy and specialty restaurant experiences if your favorite performance art is culinary.

  • Nonstop schedule of events for those who like to stay busy
  • Adults-only spaces, evening venues and entertainment
  • Can be loud and overstimulating
  • Several restaurants require additional cost

Best for active travelers

Platinum yucatán princess, mexico.

You’ll definitely get your daily steps in at the Platinum Yucatán Princess while exploring the grounds, visiting all 13 of its pools or hanging out at its two sister properties, Grand Riviera Princess and Grand Sunset Princess. They’re connected with walking trails, but you can get acquainted with them via a guided bike tour first. This resort has the usual gym, spa and shops for low-key activity, but its Activity Zone is appropriately named. That’s where organized activities, music and a weekly foam party take place. You can unleash your inner, past or present athlete at the Sports Park, which features batting cages, a putting green, ping-pong, mini billiards, an air rifle target range and more. Or head over to the tennis courts.

However you choose to spend your busy day, you don’t have to worry about planning ahead—reservations aren’t needed at the five included restaurants. Afterward, relax in spacious rooms with glossy, polished tile floors, a seating area and a furnished balcony or terrace. All are junior suites and fitted with cool, neutral decor, with pops of jewel tones in the trim.

  • Plenty of offerings for active travelers, especially at the Activity Zone
  • No reservations required for most a la carte restaurants
  • Access to two sister resorts
  • No beachfront views
  • Guests must be 18 or older

Best for spa lovers

Grand palladium palace resort & spa, dominican republic.

Part of the Grand Palladium resort complex on Bavaro Beach, this property is the one to choose if R&R is high on your priority list. While the services at Zentropia Palladium Spa & Wellness aren’t included, as is the case with most resorts and hotels, they’re all within steps of your room if you stay here. It’s considered one of the most extensive spas in the Dominican Republic, with a jetted tub, Turkish bath, vapor bath, sauna and an extensive service menu that includes hair treatments, waxes, manis and pedis, facial and body treatments, exfoliation and a full gamut of massage styles.

After or in between treatments, relax at any of this spa resort ‘s six pools. They’re all great, but we might recommend The Secret, an adults-only pool open until midnight. Looking to get some activity? Let the kids have their pirate ship (it’s a feature of one of the pools, as are water slides)—if you want to ramp things up yourself, just go to the well-equipped fitness center attached to the spa.

  • Elevated spa offering a wide variety of services
  • Exchange privileges with adjacent Grand Palladium Bavaro Suites Resort and Grand Palladium Punta Cana Resort & Spa
  • Adults-only The Secret pool
  • No reservations required for dining

For those who find “free golf” the best value for their green, it’s hard to overlook the Melia Caribe Beach Resort , one of the best affordable all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana, which offers complimentary rounds with some stays—especially when it’s designed by six-time Spanish champ Jose “Pepe” Gancedo. The three nine-hole courses are interspersed with coconut trees and beautiful lakes.

The resort’s interiors are classically colonial with a timeless cream and dark wood scheme. All of these are steps from a prime location on Bavaro Beach—a short meander away, past 13 restaurants and through tropical gardens. Popular on Variety

Hilton tulum riviera maya all-inclusive resort.

Nestled along the pristine shores of the Caribbean’s coastline, the Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort is one of, if not the best, family-friendly resorts. The all-inclusive resort has facilities for every age group, including a vibrant kids club catered towards children aged 4-12, featuring an outdoor playground and scheduled activities such as piñata making and mask decorating. Teens aren’t left out either, with a dedicated club offering a range of activities from water volleyball to video game showdowns.    Their spacious Family Suites, designed with kids in mind, are located closer to the property’s family-friendly amenities such as the sparkling pools, water slides and the Kids Club. Exclusive suite amenities include large building blocks, a teepee, toys, sunblock and bath toiletries for kids, a teddy bear and coloring books For adults seeking relaxation and culinary delights, the resort boasts an international bar and the expansive buffet at Vela Sur, where gastronomic delights await around the clock. Looking for a sweet treat? An adorable ice cream and churro shop is just a skip away from one of the resort’s nine pools, each offering its own unique ambiance, from a tranquil oasis for the adults to a lively hub for the whole family.   For a taste of Mexico’s rich viticulture, parents can embark on a guided journey with a sommelier, accompanied by delectable hors d’oeuvres inspired by the country’s renowned wine regions. And for a lazier day, 16 treatment rooms and hydro massage therapy await amidst the lush tropical forest. Meanwhile, fitness enthusiasts can break a sweat at the on-site gym or partake in beachside group classes led by certified instructors.  Most extraordinary are the resort’s Enclave rooms, which include private check-in and check-out, access to the Enclave Lounge for more private dining and pool experiences, and charming in-room welcome amenities and more thoughtful perks that will make your stay feel even more special.

Hilton Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort

Nestled between Cancun and the quiet fishing village of Puerto Morelos, set on a secluded stretch of Mayan Coastline, the Hilton Cancun offers a quieter escape for families. The all-inclusive resort, which first opened in November 2021, features 715 stylish guest rooms – all offering panoramic views of nature and the ocean, including the resort’s sought-after Swim-Up Poolside rooms, featuring a pool connected directly to the patio.  The headlining feature of Hilton Cancun, however, is their wide range of culinary experiences. The property has 12 all-inclusive, authentic, globally inspired restaurants, including five signature restaurants, a kid-friendly all-you-can-eat ice cream and churro shop, and a taqueria with a mezcal and tequila bar.   While the kids busy themselves at the splash pool or with games and activities at the kids club, adults can relax at the Waldorf Astoria Spa Cancun. Just next door to the resort, the unique spa blends innovative treatments with holistic Mayan traditions. The spa offers 21 treatment rooms, both inside and outside, that incorporate fresh garden herbs, locally sourced oils, and healing crystals.

Hilton La Romana, An All-Inclusive Resort

You also can’t go wrong with the white sand and blue water of Hilton La Romana, An All-Inclusive Resort in the Dominican Republic, which boasts both family-friendly and adults-only resorts depending on what type of vacation you’re looking for.   For families, the best option for lodging is the all-Inclusive Family Resort nestled in the lush jungles, gorgeous weather and expansive beaches of the island. The resort’s headlining perks come with their family-friendly daily offerings, including a water park features winding tube slides, a palm tree-lined lazy river, and a kids’ splash zone; free kayaking, snorkeling, and windsurfing sessions; and supervised activities at their kids/teens clubs, such as  treasure hunts, sandcastle building, beach camping, foam parties, bonfires and a gaming room.  And if you enjoyed your stay and want to go back without the kiddos? Look no further than Hilton La Romana’s All-Inclusive Adults-Only Resort . The luxury retreat features oversized guest room (stocked with international and domestic top-shelf spirits and an in-suite mini-bar), gourmet dining offered at five different restaurants (no reservations required), infinity pools, ocean-front bars, a day spa, nightly entertainment, a casino, a tree-lined private beach, and a dive center.

Choose your own adventure: Where to go and how to save on summer vacations

travel only vacations

Revenge travel is so last year.

“It's not necessarily about just getting out of the house anymore,” said Sydney Stanback, Global Insights and Trends lead at Pinterest, which has seen more than 1 billion travel searches and more than 10 billion travel saves over the past year.

Sure, many of the usual suspects are once again among the most popular destinations across multiple search engines this year, but she said this summer, “It's more so about traveling with intention.”

According to NerdWallet’s Summer 2024 Travel Report , 45% of Americans plan to take a trip requiring a hotel stay or flight this summer with expenses averaging just under $3,600. A fifth of those travelers expect to go into debt to pay for vacations.

Here’s what to consider when booking a summer trip, including where to go, when to travel and how to save:

Learn more: Best travel insurance

What is the best place to travel in summer?

The answer is subjective, especially this summer.

“Everyone's kind of choosing their own adventure based off of what their needs are for travel,” Stanback said.

Pinterest’s Summer 2024 Travel Report found summer travelers are most interested in adventure, exploring mysterious or uncharted destinations, and rest. Searches for “quiet life” jumped 530%, but that doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone.

“My mother actually just took a yoga retreat to Panama,” Stanback said. “That's what she needed to do in order to get the rest that she needed and the well-being that she needed. But for me, when I think of rest and restoration, I simply think about going to a beach spa and just sitting and being by myself.”

Solo travel remains popular. Solo travel searches reached an all-time high in Google in January, but again, not for everyone.

“For Gen Z specifically, that need is to gather and reconnect with their community because they were in isolation for so long and during very meaningful moments in their lives,” Stanback said. She noted group travel and road trips are of keen interest to Gen Z.

“It's not necessarily about traveling and going out and going to restaurants and going to bars and clubs,” she added. “We actually see that a lot with younger generations. They’re kind of stepping away from that and really considering their well-being when they're taking time off.”

Where do most tourists go in summer?

Expedia’s Summer Outlook and Google Flights identified the same cities among their most searched summer 2024 destinations based on flights, though rankings varied by platform.

Top 5 domestic destinations

◾ Orlando, Florida

◾ Los Angeles

◾ Las Vegas

Top 5 international destinations

◾ Cancun, Mexico

◾ Paris, host of the Summer Olympics

Allianz Partners found slightly different results in their analysis of “more than six million flight itineraries for trips between five and eight days in length for travel booked between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.”

Instead of LA and Vegas, Allianz named Boston and Honolulu among this summer’s top five domestic destinations. Internationally, San Jose del Cabo, Mexico; Oranjestad, Aruba; and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, made Allianz’s top five, instead of Rome, Paris and Tokyo.

“I am expecting crowds to rival last summer's in popular overseas cities,” Expedia’s travel expert Melanie Fish said, noting how places like Barcelona and Venice are trying to curb overtourism. “They're trying fees and if that's not enough, they're going to have to go even further.”

How can I save on a trip?

Summer trips are already costly for many travelers. “Americans with household income under $100,000 accounted for nearly half (46%) of intended leisure travel spend in summer 2023,” according to Deloitte’s Facing travel’s future report from April.

Expedia’s Fish shared five tips for booking summer 2024 vacations:

◾ Bundle your trip. Booking airfare and a hotel at the same time can earn you deep discounts.

◾ Travel midweek or later in the summer if it's an option. You'll save money and save yourself from fighting crowds.

◾ Fly early in the day … The early bird who takes the first flight of the day will typically get a better price and a lower chance of delays and cancellations.

◾ Book once, earn twice. You can stack rewards from your travel credit card (and) your airline.

◾ Just go. Don't pressure yourself to create the trip of a lifetime … Do it in a bite-sized chunk if possible.

'Expensive in every way': What travelers should expect this summer

How far ahead should I book travel?

“The sweet spot is now,” Fish said. “We're within that 21- to 60-day pre-travel window to save around 15% on airfare, so now is the time to plan. That means ready, set, but maybe wait until August to actually go.”

She said travelers can save an average of $250 on international flights if they wait until the peak summer travel season passes.

“It's 15% cheaper on average to fly domestically in August versus June, 30% cheaper to fly to Europe in late summer, and 55% cheaper to fly to Mexico and the Caribbean in August,” she said. “Of course, August is peak hurricane season , so that has something to do with that price dip.”

Moscow, Russia

You are here, about moscow.

Moscow is unlike any other city on Earth. It is the wealthy economic center for one-sixth of the world's land mass and has over 120 ethnic groups and nationalities. A diverse and vibrant city with a strange combination of traditional Russian architecture and newer Soviet tastelessness, Moscow is an adventure waiting to happen!

Reasons to travel to Moscow

But what makes it so popular among tourists is the concentration of Moscow attractions. When you travel to Moscow you definitely want to see the red-bricked walls of the Kremlin , to take a picture in front of St. Basil's Cathedral , and probably visit the world-famous Bolshoi Theater . All of these places are located within a very small area around Red Square , so seeing them on a walking sightseeing tour of Moscow is convenient and allows you to avoid traffic jams.

The concentration of Moscow's main sights is one of the facts that make this city a world-class tourist destination. The majority of its attractions is centered in one small area, and the Kremlin is the hub of this concentration.

These sights extend into the realm of fantasy and are a must to put on your Moscow itinerary: the colorful domes of the Cathedral of St. Vasily the Blessed, the neo-gothic consumer wonderland that is the GUM , or state department store, and the timepiece of Russia's New Year's celebrations, the Spassky clock tower, all tower over the beautiful Red Square.

The neighboring Kitay-Gorod, or "Basket-Town" (likely a reference to the construction method of the city walls surround it), remains a significant concentration of traditional Russian structures serving as a commercial center. The Bolshoi Theater, the Lubyanka, and the hotels that tower above the Manege Square all are situated within the Boulevard Ring, an urban open-space doubling as a heavily-trafficked roadway created after the Great Fire of 1812, the one that left Napoleon's Army starving deep within wintry Russia.

Moscow transport system

As Europe's largest metropolis, and the 5th largest city in the world, Moscow comes with its share of traffic blunders. It seems that all of the world's most expensive black cars are here, and that most of the city's car owners do not understand the difference between sidewalks and parking lots. Still, while the traffic situation leaves much to be desired, the Moscow subway is superb.

The advanced Metro system carries up to 3 million passengers a day and its trains run every few minutes. With stations that could rival art museums, the Metro is one of Moscow's great must-see sights. Travel in Moscow Metro at least once to see that there is nothing like it in the world.

Best time to visit Moscow

The peak of the Moscow travel season is May through September. However, you may prefer to savor Moscow tourism delicacies during the low travel season. The snowy winter months offer just as many entertainment options as one can find during summer.

You can celebrate New Year's Eve or see Russia's biggest ice rink on Red Square, taste blinis or visit one of the numerous winter markets. Any popular St. Petersburg - Moscow tour hides a handful of memorable experiences the whole year round!

Although the best time to visit Moscow is from May to September, the city in winter still enchants with its towers and lights. Its great celebrations on the day of the October Revolution (held on November 7, a discrepancy resulting from the difference between the traditional Russian Julian calendar and the Gregorian calendar in use around the world today), and New Years Day make it the place to be. Of course, the best way to plan your trip is through one of our package tours to Moscow. If you are planning a trip to Russia , don't hesitate to contact our experienced travel experts who'll be glad to help.

The 6 Best Travel Cameras To Take Better Photos On Your Next Vacation

No matter how great your smartphone is, its camera can’t quite compete with a great dedicated camera. Travel cameras allow you to take excellent photos using a compact device that easily fits in a bag or even a pocket, so it doesn’t weigh you down on a trip. We think the OM System OM-5 is the best travel camera overall because it has excellent image stabilization and can take interchangeable lenses.

Sometimes you want more than a phone camera to document your epic trip. These are some of the best ... [+] travel cameras.

There are great models for amateurs and professionals alike, ensuring anyone can take their travel photography to the next level. After testing and extensive research, we’ve narrowed down hundreds of options to recommend quality models for every shooter in a variety of price ranges and with a variety of features.

  • Best Travel Camera Overall: OM System OM-5 Camera (Body Only)
  • Best Budget Travel Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV Camera
  • Best Compact Travel Camera: Fujifilm X100VI Camera
  • Best Point-And-Shoot Travel Camera: Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 VII Camera
  • Best Travel Camera For Vlogging: Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera For Content Creators
  • Best Travel Action Camera: GoPro Hero12 Black Action Camera

Best Travel Camera Overall

Instantly level up your travel photography, om system om-5 camera (body only).

Dimensions: 4.9 x 2 x 3.4 inches (body only) | Sensor size: Four thirds | Image resolution: 20 megapixels | Video resolution: 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 120fps | Display: 3 inches | Memory card slots: 1x SDXC UHS-II | Built-in flash: No

Best for: Getting the best travel photography in a compact package.

Those looking for a high-end travel camera in a compact body with versatile functionality should buy the OM System OM-5. The camera is a particularly good choice for photographers who want the flexibility of interchangeable lenses—of course, adding one or multiple lenses makes it slightly less portable than some of the other options on this list. The camera boasts a huge range of features, including things like in-body stabilization and interesting computational photography modes. In particular, this camera boasts great in-body stabilization, ensuring crisp and detailed images even for longer exposures.

The camera is a little more expensive than some might want, especially amateurs who only want something to use on vacation. Additionally, the camera has a slightly older processor, and it charges through a Micro-USB charging port instead of the USB-C charging port we would expect in 2024. Those, however, are relatively minor issues considering the stunning image quality for the price.

What the reviews say: Reviewers on Amazon are particularly impressed with the image stabilization. “Excellent camera for vacations and general photography. Sharpness and image quality is very good. Image stabilization is outstanding. I can hand-hold 1/2 second exposures and get a sharp image.”

  • Interchangeable lenses
  • Excellent image stabilization
  • Cool retro design
  • Less compact with interchangeable lenses
  • Micro-USB charging port
  • Slightly aging processor

Best Budget Travel Camera

Up-to-date image quality with a retro body, olympus om-d e-m10 mark iv camera.

Dimensions: 4.8 x 3.3 x 2.6 inches | Sensor size: Four thirds | Image resolution: 20 megapixels | Video resolution: 4K at 30fps, 720p at 120fps | Display: 3 inches | Memory card slots: 1x SDXC UHS-II | Built-in flash: No

Best for: Top-tier travel photography at a reasonable price.

It’s worth paying a little for a decent camera if you want something better than your phone, but you don’t necessarily have to pay more than $1,000 or so. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is a perfect example of this. It’s not necessarily cheap , but it is more affordable than many of the other options on this list, while still offering an excellent image quality and solid video quality. The camera has five-axis stabilization for more crisp photos, and it has a three-inch display that can flip down for easier viewing depending on your positioning. It’s very compact, too, and it supports hundreds of relatively affordable, compact lenses.

There are some trade-offs when you buy a more affordable camera. This camera also has a Micro-USB port, and there’s no microphone input to be able to sync audio from an external microphone. Some may consider the 4K 30fps video to be a little low, however it’s to be expected for a camera in this price range. However, the camera still gets the basics right—like a solid image quality with good stabilization. As an added bonus, it has an awesome retro design, too.

What the reviews say: Reviewers on Amazon found the camera to be high-quality, while being highly portable. “I bought this for a month-long trip through Europe and it served me well. The pictures are high quality and clear, while the camera is lightweight and durable.”

  • Hundreds of affordable lens options
  • Reasonable price
  • Great image and video quality
  • Micro-USB port
  • No microphone input

Best Compact Travel Camera

Keep your camera in your pocket, fujifilm x100vi camera.

Dimensions: 5 x 3 x 2.2 inches | Sensor size: APS-C | Image resolution: 40 megapixels | Video resolution: 6.2K at 30fps, 4K at 30fps, 4K at 60fps | Display: 3 inches | Memory card slots: SDXC | Built-in flash: Yes

Best for: Excellent image quality in an ultracompact camera that can fit in your pocket.

Those who want something ultracompact should buy the Fujifilm X100VI. You may note that the dimensions of this camera are similar or even slightly larger than some of the other cameras on this list, but this camera does not have interchangeable lenses, and instead has a relatively slim lens fixed to the body. Thankfully, the camera still boasts an excellent image quality with good depth, and it can capture high-resolution video, at up to a 6.2K resolution. It has good in-body stabilization too, which helps produce crisp images.

Unfortunately, the camera is more expensive than many of the alternatives, but since you have to buy separate lenses for other options, that gap closes a little. Additionally, the focus on the camera isn’t super fast, but thankfully it’s not overly slow either.

What the reviews say: Reviews by customers on B&H note that the camera is a worthy upgrade from other Fujifilm models. “The camera is awesome. I was afraid it wasn’t worth upgrading. But it is such an improvement from the X100F.”

  • Compact build
  • High-resolution video
  • Good image stabilization
  • Lens focus isn’t super fast

Best Point-And-Shoot Travel Camera

Easy to use at a moment's notice, sony cyber-shot rx100 vii camera.

Dimensions: 4 x 2.3 x 1.7 inches | Sensor size: 1 inch | Image resolution: 20.1 megapixels | Video resolution: 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 100fps | Display: 3 inches | Memory card slots: SDXC | Built-in flash: Yes

Best for: Quick photography when you need it.

Those looking for a super compact point-and-shoot camera to take on their travels should buy the Sony RX100 VII. This camera is small but mighty, offering a host of high-end features and the ability to take excellent photos despite its small size. Notably, it has some of the best autofocus tech in the game, meaning that you can take photos faster than ever. While it has a built-in lens, it’s relatively versatile and can zoom to up to 8x. The camera offers digital-stabilization tech that’s generally good for shooting casual video.

Be a little careful when using the camera, as it isn’t the most rugged, and there’s no waterproofing. Additionally, the camera is a little more expensive than other options, even those that offer more features and versatility. However, if you’re looking for ultracompact and don’t mind spending a little to get it, then the Sony RX100 VII is the way to go.

What the reviews say: Reviewers on B&H note that the camera is a powerhouse for its size. “This little camera is truly remarkable. I’m a professional photojournalist and own a number of mirrorless alpha bodies; I bought this camera for hiking and skiing because it fits easily into almost any pocket.”

  • Highly versatile lens
  • Very portable size
  • Sleek design
  • Not the most rugged
  • A bit expensive

Best Travel Camera For Vlogging

A content-creation powerhouse in a tiny body, sony zv-1 digital camera for content creators.

Dimensions: 4.2 x 2.4 x 1.7 inches | Sensor size: 1 inch | Image resolution: 20 megapixels | Video resolution: 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 120fps | Display: 3 inches | Memory card slots: SDXC | Built-in flash: No

Best for: Vloggers who want solid video and audio on the go.

Vloggers or videographers who want something high-end to take on the go should buy the Sony ZV-1. This camera offers a range of features to make vlogging even easier, plus it has a compact build that makes it easy to pack it in a bag or pocket. Perhaps the best feature is the side-flipping camera that allows you to see your shot when you’re filming yourself. Video quality is excellent, and the camera is able to capture bright, vibrant video all the time. Additionally, the camera has a hot shoe and 3.5mm microphone port, so you can easily set up external microphones for better audio.

The camera is able to capture 4K video at up to 30 frames per second, which may be too low for videographers who rely on slow-motion shots but still want 4K footage. Thankfully, it does support up to 120 fps when shooting at a 1080p resolution. Additionally, while colors are bright and vibrant, the video stabilization isn’t as great as some more expensive options. But it’s still not terrible, especially given the price of the camera.

What the reviews say: A reviewer on Amazon noted that the camera is perfect for their content creation needs. “As a content creator and vlogger, this camera has become an indispensable tool for capturing high-quality videos and photos. The image and video quality is outstanding, with crisp details and vibrant colors that make my content pop.”

  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Excellent video quality
  • Side-flipping screen for self-video
  • 4K maxes out at 30fps
  • Video stabilization is only fine

Best Travel Action Camera

Capture your skydiving—or just your pool-diving, gopro hero12 black action camera.

Dimensions: 2.8 x 2.0 x 1.3 inches | Sensor size: 1/1.9 inch | Image resolution: 27 megapixels | Video resolution: 5.3K at 60fps, 4K at 120fps, 2.7K at 240fps | Display: 2.27-inch rear, 1.4-inch front | Memory card slots: MicroSD UHS-III | Built-in flash: No

Best for: Capturing the action other cameras wouldn’t survive in.

GoPro has long offered the best action cam experience, and the GoPro Hero12 Black is the best one yet. This camera offers a massive range of features for those who want to capture the action, including the ability to capture footage at a hefty 5.3K at 60 frames per second or 4K at 120 fps. Downgrade to a still-solid 2.7K and you can capture footage at 240 fps—perfect for those ultra slow-mo shots. The camera has a display on both the front and the back, making it a great choice for those who want to capture themselves.

It’s a little hard to compare this camera with others on this list and talk about image quality. It’s true to say that the Hero12 Black has the worst image quality of any camera on this list. But it’s also a totally different type of camera—built for high-frame-rate video. And, to be fair, it offers among the best image qualities of any action camera out there. It also has a compact body and the ability to survive almost anything. It takes a little time getting used to the menu system, and it costs more than many of the other action cams out there, but it’s worth the price and the time you spend learning how to use it.

What the reviews say: One reviewer on Amazon was particularly impressed with the number of accessories available to the camera. “Video and picture quality is awesome and, with so many accessories available, the options for use and function seem limitless.”

  • Very portable
  • Tons of video options
  • Works with a large range of accessories
  • Slightly tricky to navigate
  • A bit pricey for an action cam

That's it for our live updates on the Ukraine war this evening.

Scroll through the blog below to catch up on what happened.

This map shows much of eastern Ukraine is under an air raid alert currently.

"Air defence is working, do not leave shelters and be careful," Kharkiv governor Oleh Synehubov said on Telegram.

Following on from our previous post, Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov has now said that Kharkiv is "under missile attack".

This was also reported by regional governor Oleh Synehubov, who has urged citizens to move to air raid shelters.

Mr Synehubov said on Telegram that there is no information about victims currently.

A journalist in Kharkiv says he has "lost count of the number of explosions" shaking the city.

At least five Russian drones have hit the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and a fire has broken out, according to officials.

Regional governor Oleh Synehubov reported the drone strike and said the city remained at risk.

Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov said the Osnovyanskyi district has been struck, sparking a fire.

Neither official has reported any casualties.

Kharkiv city has come under frequent fire in recent weeks, while thousands of people have been forced to flee the wider Kharkiv region after Russian troops launched a surprise incursion last week.

The relationship between Russia and China is under scrutiny as Vladimir Putin visits the country in what is largely a symbolic visit.

For Xi Jinping, this visit is about power, says our Asia correspondent Nicole Johnston .

You can watch Nicole's full report here...

"Nothing new."

That's what the US has to say of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping signing a joint statement on deepening the strategic partnership between their two countries.

"The statement is nothing new," said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at a briefing this evening, adding that Washington has been "very clear" where it stands on the issue.

"We find it unacceptable that Chinese companies are helping Putin wage this war against Ukraine. We've been very clear about that. And if China purports to support peace in Europe, it cannot continue to field the biggest threat of European security," she said.

Ms Jean-Pierre dismissed a question over whether the US had any power to persuade China away from supporting Russia.

Vladimir Putin has arrived in the Chinese city of Harbin for day two of his state visit after spending Thursday in Beijing meeting Xi Jinping (a reminder that China is several hours ahead, meaning it's early morning there now).

The northeastern city, which borders Russia's far east, has cultural and historic ties to Russia.

While there, Mr Putin is expected to attend trade and cooperation forums and meet students at the Harbin Institute of Technology.

Earlier, the Russian president and Mr Xi reaffirmed their "no-limits partnership and criticised US military alliances in Asia and the Pacific.

Mr Putin also thanked the Chinese leader for Beijing's peace proposal for the Ukraine war, which Kyiv and the West rejected.

Six people have been injured in a fresh Russian attack on the eastern town of Vovchansk, including the head of its military administration, an official has said.

Kharkiv governor Oleg Synegubov said on Telegram that the ages of the wounded people ranged from 28 to 50.

He claimed Russian forces attacked the town using cluster munitions.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the head of Vovchank's administration was injured.

In his evening address posted to social media, Mr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian counterattacks continue in the key frontline town in the northeast, which has been heavily targeted in Moscow's new offensive.

"Our results in repelling assaults and destroying the occupier should increase," said the Ukrainian president.

G7 finance ministers are preparing to back an EU plan to use profits from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine in the war.

An Italian treasury official said the announcement will be made when ministers meet in Stresa next week.

Some $300bn (£237bn) worth of financial assets were frozen by the G7 after Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

Earlier this month, EU nations agreed a deal in principle to provide Kyiv with additional funds for military supplies using Russian asset profits.

It followed weeks of tough negotiations among member states.

UK defence secretary Grant Shapps has branded the expulsion of British defence attache Adrian Coghill from Russia a "desperate move".

Moscow announced earlier it had made the move in retaliation to the UK kicking out his Russian counterpart over spying allegations last week.

Mr Coghill was reportedly called to the Russian embassy, where he was told of his expulsion (seen 16.25 post).

In a post on social media, Mr Shapps said Vladimir Putin's issue with Mr Coghill was that he "personified the UK's unwavering support for Ukraine".
