2PM

It’s been more than four years since 2PM held their own concert in America. After opening for label mates  Wonder Girls   on their 2010 U.S. tour, the boy band returned Stateside for their first shows in years and, despite their heavy focus overseas, still proved to have a supportive fanbase that they wowed with a remarkable blend of high-performance stunts and candid intimacy with the crowd.

For the four-date U.S. trek ‘s kickoff at New Jersey’s Prudential Center, the band brought an extravagant stage setup boasting huge LED screens on the main stage, that doubled as platforms for the band to perform on, and a long runway extending through the floor level. Even though the massive arena was sliced in half, it was the type of intricate setup that wouldn’t have fit in a smaller venue making the booking appropriate. Plus, that runway would play an important role by the second song of the show.

Fans Choose J-Hope's 'Hope on the Street Vol. 1' as This Week's Favorite New Music

Opening with 2009 single “Heartbeat,” 2PM appeared in six completely different outfits (from Taecyeon  in a sleeveless leather jacket to Nichkhun ‘s multi-colored jumper) already visually setting themselves apart from past Korean boy band concerts this year that almost always introduce the member in matching outfits for the first few songs. The guys started out looking a little tired (jet lag can do that to you, Nichkhun tweeted about him succumbing to it a day earlier), but their energy noticeably perked up once they moved into the second song, “Without You,” running out to the fans surrounding them on the runway. Already in the first two songs, 2PM was jumping around the stage and performing acrobatic stunts, including Junho flipping over his band mates, making that energy-infusing runway all the more important.

Trending on Billboard

The technical choreography continued throughout songs like “Go Crazy!” (where the boys gracefully tip over and fall to the floor), “10 Out of 10” (Junho ended the performance with an air carthwheel), “Superman” ( Jun.K and Wooyoung whipped out B-boy moves) and “A.D.T.O.Y.” (featuring the music video’s chair choreography ).

But what was equally remarkable was 2PM’s candor. While many K-pop acts are very formal with their audiences, 2PM was willing to have a lot of fun the crowd and one another. U.S.-natives  Nichkhun and  Taecyeon , the latter star being from the East Coast himself, spoke almost entirely to audience in English and used it for memorable interactions. When Taec began explaining how the group usually does a cover in the country’s native language, instead of ignoring a fan who requested  Nicki Minaj ‘s “Anaconda,” he responded to directly to them, saying, “I’m not going to sing ‘Anaconda!'” cracking everyone up. The joke continued on throughout the show with the guys intermittently breaking into a few bum shakes while softly rapping “My anaconda don’t, my anaconda don’t!” — much to the delight of the crowd.

The band continued to pay a lot of attention the crowd, getting up-close with those near the runway and frequently touching fans’ hands. Despite Taecyeon and Nichkyun’s teasing their band mates to talk in English, the non-native members did their best with the language (Jun.K and  Chansung  both communicated quite well), but even any Korean they spoke in got a nice response from the audience even with no translator on hand.

Other visual thrills came from the show’s occasional sexiness including  Chansung  and Taecyeon ripping off their shirts and exposing their abs at the end of a joint performance of “Please Come Back,” plus body rolls on “I’m Your Man” along with booty shakes and guy-to-guy touching on “10 Out of 10.” As well, the humungous LED screens sometimes completely transformed the stage; at one point looking like the guys were performing inside a castle on show standouts “I’m Your Man” and “A.D.T.O.Y.”

Visuals aside, 2PM’s honest relationship with the audience was perhaps the most remarkable part. “We’re a Korean band, I didn’t think a lot of people would come,” Taecyeon admitted to the crowd. But the crowd reaction from the performance seemed to give them the confidence to return as soon as possible with the guys telling the audience multiple times they’ll be back soon.

Stay tuned to more from 2PM including exclusive video interviews and photos coming very soon to Billboard’s K-Town column .

2PM Make Fans 'Go Crazy' On First U.S. Tour Stop In New Jersey [Concert Review]

2PM kicked off their U.S. tour at Newark's Prudential Center on November 14. After a six year career in K-Pop, their “Go Crazy” tour marks the first time the group would make their way through the United States, with scheduled stops in New Jersey, Chicago, Dallas, and Los Angeles. The group previously performed in New Jersey in October 2011 for the New York Korea Festival which was held in Overpeck Park. While they shared the spotlight for the NY Korea Festival, 2PM were the center of attention for their “Go Crazy!” concert.

Like most recent K-Pop concerts, fans began to lineup for hours prior to the show. For many concertgoers, it would be their first time returning to the Prudential Center since Big Bang performed as part of their “Alive” tour in 2012. The fans patiently waited to enter the venue, while fondly exchanging stories about their favorite members of 2PM.

2PM delivered an energetic and highly engaging concert which consisted of twenty-three songs including two encores and one medley. The concert promptly kicked off at 8PM, with a video montage that included a mix of 2PM hits including “Go Crazy!” and “Hands Up.” The first song that was performed by the group was “Heartbeat,” with Wooyoung and Jun.K taking the stage, followed by Nichkhun, Taecyeon, and Junho. While the audience for all of the members, there were resounding cheers throughout the stadium when Nichkun began to perform during “Heartbeat.”

2PM are one of the strongest groups on JYP Entertainment, with well-developed harmonization and intricately executed choreography. They kicked off the concert with synchronized dance moves which were delivered with precision. 2PM topped off the choreography of “Heartbeat” by forming a human pyramid, a move which would be replicated on other occasions during their concert.

The group segued from “Heartbeat” into “Without U,” a signature J.Y. Park (Park Jin Young) track from their 2011 studio album “Hands Up.” Taecyeon led the vocals on “Without U,” before being joined by the rest of the group. Chansung playfully brought the members of 2PM from the main stage to the extended stage. The extended stage allowed the group to interact with audience members who were standing in the VIP or General Admission section of the concert. Fans who were seated in the front rows of the areas closest to VIP were also able to make eye contact with the group. 2PM demonstrated their capability as veteran performers by actively engaging all members of the audience, including those who were seated in the highest seating levels.

2PM transitioned from “Without U” to “Hot.” “Hot” was another fan favorite from their album “Hands Up” which benefits from composition and production by 2PM member Jun.K. Jun.K is a consummate vocalist whose voice along with Wooyoung, stands out during live performances. The stage for “Hot” was topped off by an acrobatic leap over Jun.K, which was performed by Junho. Taecyeon then asked if everyone in the audience was ready to “Go Crazy!”

The members of 2PM were playful and reflected a youthful spirit during “Go Crazy!” They enthusiastically performed the choreography, with the entire group engaging with one another. Jun.k jumped on Chansung's back which added to the whimsical nature of the stage.

The members of 2PM were playful and reflected a youthful spirit during “Go Crazy!” They enthusiastically performed the choreography, with the entire group engaging with one another. Jun.k jumped on Chansung's back which added to the whimsical nature of the stage. In breakdown of the song, the dancers were explosively charged. The differentiating component of a JYP Entertainment show is the use of the stage with a significantly large crew of supporting dancers.

They then performed “10 out of 10.” The hip thrusting choreography combined with the vocal acrobatics delivered by Wooyoung and Jun.K made this song even more entertaining. Chansung and Taecyeon then performed “Saying I Love You.” The start of the song was a little pitchy, which was most likely attributed to the audio difficulties which were revealed later on in the show. The treatment of the stage was celestial, providing the sense of being in a starry sky. The duet of Taecyeon and Chansung provided an interesting contrast to the stage set by the group as a whole. “Saying I Love You” was the first sub-unit song of the night.

The sub-unit stage between Chansung and Taecyeon continued with “Please Come Back.” “Please Come Back” would eventually lead to the Taecyeon and Chansung removing their shirts, along with their backup dancers. As they shed their sparkly silver jackets, the resounding sentiment of audience members was that they would make great members of the Chippendales, if 2PM hadn’t been so successful. “Saying I Love You” was a ballad stage while “Please Come Back” highlighted the dance-pop talents of the duo.

The group then transitioned to the soulful song “It's Raining” from “Go Crazy!” “It's Raining” was a solid ballad which off-set the sexiness of “Please Come Back.” 2PM then performed “I'm Sorry” which highlighted Taecyeon's rap skills. They followed “I'm Sorry” with their first talking session of the night. Nichkhun enthusiastically addressed the crowd with, “Hi! New Jersey!”

Chansung said, “Hi, nice to meet you” in English while Junho and Wooyoung introduced themselves in Korean. Taecyeon, who spent most of his adolescence in Massachusetts began to chant “East Coast.”

Glen Choi, who was one of the co-writers of "Go Crazy!," was present in the audience. Taecyeon noted that he was the man with the light-up sneakers but graciously thanked him for his contribution to the album. After speaking about Glen Choi, Taecyeon turned the mic over to Junho. Junho introduced himself while saying "English was hard" but he had been practicing. 2PM followed their introductions with the R&B hit "Come Back When You Hear This Song" from their 2013 album "Grown."

The group then performed "A Night Like Tonight" from "Go Crazy!" before singing one of their biggest stages of the night "Hands Up." The audience, from the VIP section to the highest parts of the rafters, could be heard singing along with "Hands Up." As the title track of their second studio album, "Hands Up" serves as one of the 2PM's classic songs. Throughout the chorus, the entire stadium could be seen jumping in their seats while literally putting their hands up. The stage was completed with silver streamers which featured the signatures of the group.

2PM then performed Wooyoung's solo release “Sexy Lady” as a group stage. There was an interruption in the show prior to “Sexy Lady” due to technical difficulties which caused an electrical problem. During this point, the audience had an opportunity to watch a video interlude of “Go Crazy!” The group recovered from the electrical glitch, which was apparently attributed to a power outage, with a solid stage of “I'm Your Man.” “I'm Your Man” is a classic 2PM song like “Hands Up” and the audience went crazy, as they sang along with the track.

The group followed “I'm Your Man” with “A.D.T.O.Y” (All Day I Think of You) from “Grown.” Each member incorporated the chairs on stage into the choreography, in a manner similar to what is performed in the music video for the song. “A.D.T.O.Y” is a song which brilliantly encompasses the vocals of the entire group and the live performance of the track did not fail to deliver the brilliance which can be heard on the recording.

Junho and Nichkhun then performed their unit stage of “Love Is True.” As Nichkhun later noted, “Love Is True” provides a sweeter contrast to the shirts-off, in your face nature of other 2PM songs. The duet was followed by the second talking session of the night. During this time, Junho and Nichkhun discussed “Love Is True with Nichkhun stating that he wanted to “do something sweeter” after everyone else was ripping off their shirts. Taecyeon pointed out that the group normally would sing a song that represented they were performing in. He led the group into rounds of the children's song “Twinkle Twinkle.”

2PM then performed another fan favorite, “Again and Again.” They followed “Again and Again” with a medley of three songs, “I Hate You,” “Tired of Waiting,” and “Maja.” Following their medley, the members of 2PM engaged the audience in brief conversation with Nichkhun reciting part of the chorus from Nicki Minaj's hit song “Anaconda” which Taecyeon declined to sing earlier in the night. The group then launched into “I'll Be Back” from their 2011 release “Still 2:00pm.”

The night began to come to a close with “Don't Stop Can't Stop” which segued into the militaristic, video game-themed stage “Game Over.” The group then performed “Farewell Journey” prior to their final address of the audience. Taecyeon expressed his surprise at the turn out for the show, since it was their first tour in the U.S. Fans who were in the VIP section were treated to all out fan service from the group, which included Chansung shedding his shirt and Taecyeon posing for photos with lucky fans.

2PM concluded their concert with encore performances of “Hands Up” and “Go Crazy!” By the time they reached “Go Crazy!” the members were cheerfully jumping on the stage and posing with as many fans as they possibly could. Their concert was a total success, with satisfied fans departing from the venue, hopeful that 2PM would be returning to the United States. This may have been their first tour in America, but 2PM has established themselves as one of the most pivotal K-Pop groups for international fans.

Kpopstarz sincerely thanks 2PM for their shout out. Thank you also to JYP Entertainment and Powerhouse Live for the opportunity to cover the concert.

Fans do not 'go away' just because a group has been around for a long time, they simply grow up with them, I'm surprised that the agencies haven't realised this.

I'm sure 2PM fans are beside themselves with joy at the thought that they're going to be seeing them perform again, sounds like they should have booked more nights as there's massive demand, selling out in seconds is crazy.

Nicki Minaj delivers spectacle backed up by skill on biggest tour of her career: Review

2pm us tour

WASHINGTON – As one of the most celebrated, successful rappers and engaging personalities, Nicki Minaj could slouch her way through her Pink Friday 2 tour and fans would still slather her with praise.

After all, they don’t seem to mind the continued late starts – 10:20 p.m. at Monday’s Capital One Arena in D.C., more than two hours past the ticketed promise but in line with her timing so far on tour – prefaced by an interminable DJ set.

But Minaj, who kicked off her 30-date world outing March 1 and has produced a string of arena sellouts since, is undiminished in her vitality and spunkiness.

From the moment she rose from underneath the stage floor, draped in white from the waist down and sporting a metallic top for the confident tone-setter “I’m the Best,” Minaj, 41, oozed coolness.

More: Nicki Minaj Pink Friday 2 tour: See the setlist for her career-spanning concert

Gag City is Nicki Minaj’s Oz

For her first U.S. run in eight years, Minaj has crafted her most grandiose production: a slick, vibrant beauty of staircases, tiers, towering video panels and a lengthy catwalk to allow her plenty of room to strut.

It’s a Nicki-fied Oz, a neon playground on which she and her dancers could exact the rhythms of new tracks such as “FTCU,” “Barbie Dangerous” and “Cowgirl” with style.

The fictionalized Gag City – an idea created by fans using artificial intelligence for the arrival of last year’s “Pink Friday 2” album – was brought to reality in the form of a cityscape outlined in fuchsia for some songs and black and red for others.

During the alluring Asian-themed segment offering “Chun-Li” and the percussive “Ruby Red da Sleeze,” Minaj ducked into a phone booth for a quick change – a la Clark Kent – from her hooded robe to a long, pink wig (one of many she would sport throughout the night).

Nicki Minaj loves to play with fans

Minaj is endlessly entertaining to watch. She might drop into a marionette pose in “Win Again” or grind against the stage floor and literally engage in the lyrics of “Feeling Myself.”

Her gift is to go from spitting daggers to turning coquettish, and she says as much with her alluring eyes as her pointed lyrics, which her fans devour.

Those devotees – affectionately dubbed “The Barbz” – turned the arena into a sea of salmon-colored fashion, from cowgirl hats to crop tops, boots to glittery shorts.

But more than their visuals, the crowd clearly worshipped Minaj’s every movement, especially her stings that landed with a smile.

Late in the show, Minaj handed her microphone to several audience members to sing the refrain of “The Night is Still Young.” She jokingly scolded their off-key renditions with typical side eye, but broke into spontaneous gyrations and a grin when one fan instead sang, “Nicki is still young!”

Before that inspirational anthem, Minaj addressed the crowd with her usual candor.

“People want money and they want cars and they want houses … and they ain’t got no peace. So what does it mean? I’d rather peace in the projects building. ‘Cause when you’ve got peace, you can think. And when you can think, you can prosper,” she told the cheering throng.

More: Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' is a little bit country and a whole lot more: Review

Nicki Minaj’s concert guests are great, but slow momentum

A handful of songs into her set, Minaj rolled into “Beep Beep,” a heaping serving of drums, pyro and 50 Cent.

The superstar rapper strolled out in a white baseball cap, jeans and a sparkly blue jacket to match Minaj’s outfit of the moment for the song – featured on the deluxe version of “Pink Friday 2” – before taking over the stage during a Minaj costume change.

His smile gleaming and his spirit apparently soaring, 50 Cent steered the crowd through singalongs of several hits including “What Up Gangsta,” “P.I.M.P.” and the inevitable “In Da Club.”

His presence was certainly welcome, but, like the mid-set performance from Monica and the too-long artsy videos that segued each thematic act, it impaired the momentum of the show.

It’s gracious of Minaj to cede the spotlight to Monica for a deserved platform than mere opening act, and she indeed sounded flawless on “So Gone” and “Before You Walk Out of My Life” and looked luminous in her floor-length pink coat.

But while her set didn’t siphon attention from Minaj, it did incur a tonal shift.

Still, Minaj is the Queen of Rap for a reason, and she soon reclaimed the stage with her unbridled sass.

Sky Sports Golf podcast: Could Rory McIlroy's PGA Tour form reduce Grand Slam pressure at The Masters?

Rory McIlroy needs to win The Masters to complete the career Grand Slam; McIlroy last won a major in 2014 and is without a top-15 finish on the PGA Tour this season; Watch The Masters live from April 11-14 on Sky Sports Golf

Rory McIlroy has made a slow start to the season on the PGA Tour, although could his disappointing streak of results put less pressure on his latest bid to complete golf’s career Grand Slam?

McIlroy made a fast start to 2024 on the DP World Tour, finishing runner-up at the Dubai Invitational before successfully defending his title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, but has failed to replicate those results since switching focus to the PGA Tour.

The world No 2 struggled to a tied-66th finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and has been unable to register a top-20 in his next four PGA Tour starts, allowing Scottie Scheffler to pull further clear at the top of the world rankings after big wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players.

Rory

McIlroy has had a busier early-season schedule than previous years as he looks to end his major drought, with the Northern Irishman electing to tee it up at the Valero Texas Open this week ahead of aiming to complete the career Grand Slam at The Masters.

The 34-year-old is among the pre-tournament favourites to claim a long-awaited fifth major title next week, despite missing two of his last three cuts at Augusta National, with the Sky Sports Golf podcast panel debating on how much his poor form could impact him.

"His form has been very poor by his standards, having started off the year very well," former DP World Tour player Gary Murphy told the Sky Sports Golf podcast. "Then he hasn't been inside the top-15 in his last five starts, so he has little to show.

"I actually don't mind that and I would hate if McIlroy was doing a Scottie Scheffler at the moment, as I think the expectations would be absolutely ferocious. I think playing in the Valero Texas Open this week is good and I would like to see him get to Augusta National as late as possible.

"I'm hoping he'll find that this week and have a decent week. If he wins it's a good thing, as he's won the week before winning a major, so that's not going to get him out of his element.

"He is looking for something, but we've all gone into tournaments trying to find something. The fact that he's out of form doesn't matter massively, as he's a very light switch kind of player and he could find something in his swing this week, go with it, and hang onto that for a month or six weeks."

Should mcilroy make a late arrival.

McIlroy has had 20 top-tens in majors since his 2014 PGA Championship victory - including seven in his last eight major starts, more than any other player during the same period, with the former world No 1's best finish at The Masters coming via a runner-up finish in 2022.

The four-time major champion will be one of the main talking points in the press at the opening major of the year, with former DP World Tour player Richard McEvoy backing him to stay away from the media to enhance his chances of an elusive Masters victory.

Rory McIlroy, of Northern Ireland, reacts after his shot went into the water on the 18th hole during the first round of The Players Championship golf tournament Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky)

"I think it's quite a good thing that there could be lower expectations on him," McEvoy added. "I think that's where Scheffler's so good, as he's a very quiet unassuming guy and doesn't necessarily get all the plaudits and expectations from the press.

"The press will still be on Rory for sure because he's trying to win that career Grand Slam. He should turn up Tuesday afternoon, play a few holes on Wednesday, do his own thing and try and stay away from the press as much as possible.

MASTERS GOLF PREDICTIONS THUMB IMAGES: PA/AP

"It would help him, no doubt, if he turned up late and tried not to speak to the press too much. They're just going to ask question after question about him winning there, which is just going to add in more pressure. Hopefully he can be a little more selfish and just turn up and do his own thing."

The panel look at how many golfers see the DP World Tour as a stepping stone to the PGA Tour and reflect on the legacy of chief executive Keith Pelley, who leaves his role this week and will be replaced by Guy Kinnings. There's also an early look at predictions for The Masters and a preview to the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

Nicki Minaj Pink Friday 2 tour: See the setlist for her career-spanning concert

T hough she kicked off her Pink Friday 2 tour March 1 in Oakland, California, and still has more than a month to roam the country before heading to Europe, Nicki Minaj's enthusiasm and spunkiness are still raging.

On April 1, Minaj rolled into Capital One Arena in D.C. with a glossy spectacle and plenty of her trademark attitude for another sold-out date.

With a career-spanning 33-track setlist – albeit with some shortened versions of songs – Minaj, 41, delivered a fun, colorful set for fans who have waited more than eight years to see her on a U.S. tour again.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Her anticipated “Pink Friday 2” album arrived in December and was preceded by a snappy update of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” with Ice Spice on “Barbie World” ( from the “Barbie” movie soundtrack , for those with fleeting memories).

That hit, as well as new songs including “FTCU,” “Big Difference” and “Ruby Red da Sleeze,” allowed Minaj to slip into her various personas , which she also did gleefully with megahits “Super Bass” and “Anaconda.”

Minaj’s devotees – aka “Barbz” – came ready to play, bopping in the arena clad in more pink than the city’s famed cherry blossom trees.

Here are the songs fans will hear during Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 World Tour.

Eric Clapton waves to the crowd.

Eric Clapton celebrated his 79th birthday on March 30.

To ring in the occasion, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer added a handful of shows with special guest Jimmie Vaughan to his 2024 tour calendar.

While more dates may be announced, the guitar legends officially announced they’ll perform in Mexico City (Oct. 3), San Diego (Oct. 8), Thousand Palms (Oct. 10) and Los Angeles (Oct. 12).

Prior to the North American leg of the tour, Slowhand is slated to shred in Great Britain from May 9-18.

If the tour is anything like last year’s, Clapton will likely alternate between electric and acoustic sections for each show.

For fans that can’t wait to hear Clapton classics like “After Midnight,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Layla” and so many more live, tickets can be found for all seven gigs as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 5, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.
