Star wars announces new pandora collaboration.

An in-depth look at Star Wars’ successful merchandising empire and a run-down of their latest collaboration with charm bracelet producer Pandora

Lucasfilm and Pandora Jewelry have teamed up to add a series of Star Wars -themed charms to their popular line of customizable charm bracelets. Released on October 1, the long-awaited 12-piece collection features beloved characters and familiar logos from the long-running science fiction franchise. The collection is painstakingly crafted and hand-finished using 71% recycled material, making it suitable for sci-fi fans and the eco-friendly alike

Released in 1977, Star Wars was an unexpected blockbuster that smashed box-office records and received almost universal critical acclaim. With a talented cast, compelling story, and groundbreaking visual effects, Star Wars established science fiction as a financially viable genre . Yet, greater perhaps than its effect on the entertainment industry was Star Wars'  profound influence on the world of merchandising. In an unprecedented move, writer and director George Lucas sacrificed $350,000 of his salary with 20th Century Fox to maintain the merchandising rights to Star Wars . Upon the films’ release, Lucas launched an expansive mass-marketing campaign that changed the landscape of movie merchandising.

In 2012, The Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm for $4.1 billion . This hefty price tag included the aforementioned merchandising rights, through which Lucas had earned $3 billion over 35 years. By 2018, Disney had already recouped its investment. One of the ways in which Disney improved upon Lucas’ profitable formula was by marketing memorabilia to the first generation of Star Wars fans. Kids who saw the original film in 1977 were getting older and enjoying more disposable income than younger fans. Thus, Disney wisely began marketing high-end Star Wars merchandise such as a Darth Vader Dutch oven for $395, Yoda Swarovski Crystal for $239, and – of course – the just-released line of Star Wars -themed Pandora jewelry.

Pandora was established in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1982 as a producer of necklaces, rings, watches, and other affordable jewelry. The company premiered its best-selling item, the customizable charm bracelet, in 2000, and expanded to the North American market in 2003. Pandora’s collaboration with Star Wars is part of a larger partnership with parent company Walt Disney, which has featured Disney-themed jewelry through Pandora since 2014. The collection begins with a Star Wars Snake Chain Clasp Bracelet and features twelve charms including Darth Vader, Princess Leia, R2-DR, C3PO, BB-8, Chewbacca, Baby Yoda, and others.

In the past, Star Wars has been used to market seemingly unrelated items such as perfume, shower heads, and even toilet paper . Other franchises emulated this winning strategy. James Bond scented candles and Star Trek coffins were among some of the stranger merchandising mash-ups. As long as fans are willing to pay for branded items, unlikely partnerships will continue to pop up. With this in mind, Star Wars and Pandora coming together to create a quality line of themed jewelry doesn’t seem so strange after all.

The new Pandora x Marvel collection includes iconic Pandora charms, bracelets, rings, necklaces and keychains all adorned with classic characters like Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk and Black Panther. The MCU characters are all available in charm form, with options for 14-karat gold-plated designs and sterling silver Pandora charms. Each character charm also features their iconic quote embedded into the design, including “Wakanda Forever” for Black Panther and “Hulk Smash” for Hulk.

REVIEW: Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set

One of my Pandora highlights for 2021 was the Limited Edition Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set (B8SW00) which was released for on the 21st November 2021 for a finite time.

The set includes is presented in an attractive gift box and is comprised of three items: the Star Wars x Pandora Star Wars™ Clasp Double Black Leather Bracelet (540031C00) , The Mandalorian Helmet Charm (740019C01) and the Grogu Charm (749253C01) .

Dora Explores: Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set

The Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set is presented in a light grey cardboard with a tactile finish. It’s shapes resembles one of the ships from the Star Wars films and the front is embossed with the Star Wars x Pandora logo. The interior of the gift box is decorated with both the Star Wars and The Mandalorian logos.

The three jewellery items in the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set are set into a black trapezoid shape. Held at the top is the Star Wars x Pandora Star Wars™ Clasp Double Black Leather Bracelet (540031C00) with The Mandalorian Helmet (740019C01) and the Grogu (749253C01) charms nestled below.

Star Wars x Pandora Double Leather Bracelet

The Star Wars x Pandora Star Wars™ Clasp Double Black Leather Bracelet (540031C00) is made with a soft leather plait and a ruthenium-plated clasp. Both ends of the bracelet are encased in a smooth ruthenium-plated fitting and the clasp is embossed with the iconic Star Wars logo on each side. The bracelet is available in three sizes: 35cm, 38cm and 41cm.

The standard hallmark for plated Pandora jewellery, ‘ALE MET’, is stamped on the inside of the clasp on the Star Wars x Pandora Leather Bracelet .

One side of the clasp on the Star Wars x Pandora Leather Bracelet is engraved with ‘©LFL’, for Lucas Films Ltd.

The other side of the ruthenium-plated clasp on the Star Wars x Pandora Leather Bracelet is engraved with ‘PANDORA’.

Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Helmet Charm

The Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Helmet (740019C01) is possibly the coolest Pandora charm to date! Armour is a very important part of a Mandalorian’s identity and is traditionally made from beskar which is notable for its high tolerance to extreme forms of damage. The ruthenium-plated charm perfectly resembles the gun metal grey of the beskar helmet.

A T-shaped visor to conceal the face, is a common trait of a traditional Mandalorian helmet. This is beautifully depicted with glossy black enamel on the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Helmet (740019C01) charm. The Pandora logo is engraved above the hole on one side of the charm.

The bottom of the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Helmet charm is engraved with the phrase, “THIS IS THE WAY”. This refers to The Way of the Mandalore, a religion followed by orthodox Mandalorians. Those Mandalorians would state “This is the Way” when following its ideals. Other details include raised lines and a macrobinocular nameplate on the back of the helmet.

The normal hallmark for plated Pandora jewellery, ‘ALE MET’ is stamped inside the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Helmet charm.

One side of the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Helmet charm is engraved above the hole with ‘©LFL’, for Lucas Films Ltd. As with most plated charms, The Mandalorian Helmet charm has a smooth non-threaded centre.

Star Wars x Pandora Ruthenium Plated Grogu Charm

The Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set includes a special Limited Edition of the Grogu Charm (799253C01) . Both charms are identical but the Limited Edition Grogu Charm (749253C01) is ruthenium-plated. The child Grogu features glossy black enamel on his big beautiful eyes and he stands with his hand outstretched as he uses The Force.

The smooth non-threaded hole is near Grogu’s large ears, at the top of the Limited Edition Star Wars x Pandora Grogu Charm (749253C01) .

The Pandora logo and the normal hallmark for plated Pandora jewellery, ‘ALE MET’ are engraved on the back of the Limited Edition Grogu Charm (749253C01) alone with ‘©LFL’, the copyright for Lucas Films Ltd.

Like its silver counterpart, the Limited Edition Grogu (749253C01) charm is full of adorable detail. My favourite element are Grogu’s little frog like feet which can be seen peeking beneath his robe at the bottom of the charm.

I purchased the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set with the Star Wars x Pandora Star Wars™ Clasp Double Black Leather Bracelet (540031C00) in size 38cm. Normally I wear the smallest size Pandora Leather Bracelet, but this time I choose a larger size so both my husband and I can wear the bracelet.

Mando becomes Mandora as my husband wears the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set . The Star Wars x Pandora Star Wars™ Clasp Double Black Leather Bracelet is styled with both The Mandalorian Helmet and the Grogu charms. A silicone ring is placed underneath the charms to keep them positioned either side of the bracelet’s clasp.

The Mandalorian Din Djarin forms a close bond with the foundling Grogu and has the Armorer forge him a gift from beskar. In Book of Bobba Season 1 Chapter 5 we see that the Armorer creates lots of tiny beskar links. Later in Book of Bobba Season 1 Chapter 6 we see Luke Skywalker present Grogu with the finished product, a Grogu-sized chain mail made from the beskar links. Hence it seemed fitting to stack the Star Wars x Pandora The Mandalorian Gift Set with the ruthenium-plated Pandora ME Link Chain Bracelet (549588C00) .

I am completely in love with the Limited Edition Star Wars x Pandora Mandalorian Gift Set! The design is super cool, especially with the ruthenium-plated finish which provides a lot of wow factor. As the set includes three items it is good value and all of the pieces are versatile, particularly the Double Leather Bracelet as it can be worn as a necklace too!
