There was a time when vegetarian restaurants were few and far between in Stockholm, and ordering the vegetarian option meant getting a meat dish – sans meat. Things have changed.

Today, you’re guaranteed to find exquisite vegetarian and vegan alternatives on any menu. And not only in one of Stockholm's great plant-based restaurants or cafés.

Falafel, hummus, and other tasty vegetarian delights at Maxos

Juicy and fresh homemade falafel that makes your taste buds dance. Creamy hummus that waters your mouth. That’s just two highlights of the family-owned falafel bar Maxos in Kungsholmen. Located near the City Hall, it has been a key player in Stockholm’s falafel scene for many years. The inspiration comes from the thousand-year-old city of Akka with its proud food traditions – the gastronomic heart of Palestine, according to the restaurant’s owners.

In addition to falafel and hummus, the menu includes tasty vegetarian (and vegan) delicacies such as halloumi, tabouli, sweet potatoes, fried cauliflower, and a wide range of delicious mixes. And if someone in the group isn’t vegetarian, there is also lamb, chicken, and merguez. All are made from scratch using fresh ingredients. Wash down the food with their homemade juices, and remember to finish your meal with a good cup of Palestinian coffee. The place is small and cozy with a relaxed atmosphere, and the queue is often long at this popular falafel place, especially around lunchtime. If you don’t want to eat on-site, you can order takeaway. Maxos also offers catering in the form of a buffet.

Oummi restaurang 1

A delicious tasting menu full of green delights. Or first-class main courses and meza? Sound like your cup of tea? Then you should visit the luxurious Lebanese restaurant Oummi in Old Town (Gamla stan). Here, you’ll get the ultimate Lebanese experience with fantastic food, a great atmosphere, and impeccable service in the middle of Stockholm.

The menu at Oummi offers Lebanese food with a modern touch. The vegetarian tasting menu includes treats like sweet halloumi, fatte, moussaka batinjan, fatayer, and cheese rolls. There are also several green main dishes that you can complement with the restaurant’s famous fries and sauces. And don’t miss the bar’s masterful cocktails—real works of art.

Sit down and enjoy a magical world of beautiful textiles, velvet sofas, brass lanterns, and atmospheric lighting. It’s no wonder that connoisseurs, foodies, and anyone who likes good green dishes love Oummi.

This is one of Stockholm’s oldest vegetarian restaurants and opened way back in 1987. With inspirations from the Middle East and Asia, the exotic interior reflects the menu, loaded with dishes from India, Thailand, and Persia. Both vegetarian and vegan options are available, and in the summer months, the outdoor seating is a true oasis.

Stockholm for Vegetarians and Vegans

Posted By Christie Petrakopoulou on Jan 5, 2017

Christie Petrakopoulou introduces us to some of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Stockholm.

Stockholmers love food. Especially fresh and healthy food so it comes as no surprise that there’s a big vegetarian and vegan community in Stockholm. Many legendary restaurants and cafés have already found their place around the city and new ones are popping up all the time. In some countries around the world it can be hard to find food suiting your food preferences. If you’re vegetarian or vegan and plan to visit Stockholm, you’ll never find it difficult to find places to eat as most restaurants offer vegetarian and even vegan options. I’m myself a pescatorian and food is a ritual!

Below is a list of my favourite vegetarian restaurants in Stockholm offering yummy plant-based dishes. Prices vary depending on each restaurant. Usually one can fika  for 60-70 SEK and eat a full meal for roughly 130 SEK per person.

Lao Wai serves classic Sichuanese and Taiwanese specialties prepared with the best fresh vegetables the city has to offer. Nothing’s made out of powders or prepackaged sauces. Meat is replaced by tofu and GMO free soy protein products from Japan and Taiwan as stated on their website. I highly recommend Lao Wai’s Ma Po Dou Fu, a spicy tofu dish from Sichuan, a province in southwest China. Lao Wai is a very small restaurant that is usually fully booked so remember to call in advance to check if there’s availability.

From the moment you enter, you’ll notice great attention to detail around you. The food presentation is as beautiful as it tastes! Beyond aesthetics, the reason why I like Green Peas has to do with their great respect for both natural foods and their customers. The restaurant offers vegan food made out of organic and seasonal ingredients. Get ready to be surrounded by passionate food lovers making their own food revolution at Fridhemsgatan 3 in Kungsholmen and at Gröna Villan at Stockholm University.

If you’re strolling around Stockholm’s beautiful old town, Gamla stan, Hermitage might be the place to go for either lunch or dinner. Help yourself to their all-you-can-eat buffet! Lovely and cozy place located on one of Gamla Stan’s central streets, Stora Nygatan.

hermitage.gastrogate.com

The district of Södermalm is the place to be for many reasons. In terms of food, it’s possibly the most vegetarian and vegan friendly around Stockholm. Legendary vegetarian restaurant Hermans Vegetarian Restaurant and Garden Café is located on top of a hill only a 10-minute walk from Slussen t-bana station. Needless to say that from up there, you get stunning views of the city, especially five different islands: Gamla Stan, Skeppsholmen, Kastellholmen, Djurgården and Beckholmen.

Hermans opens daily and offers a vegetarian all-you-can-eat buffet with both hot and cold dishes and salads as well as a large selection of organic drinks and raw desserts. Even if the restaurant is almost always full, I personally think that it emits a certain serenity. During summer, guests can sit outside and enjoy their meal in the beautiful garden.

Falafelbaren

Stockholm’s best and first falafel bar can be found at two locations on Södermalm island; near Mariatorget and Skanstull t-bana stations. Always fresh and always delicious. Yes, I’m a regular customer. The falafel is fried only after the order is taken. Most of the dishes are vegan, gluten and lactose free, ideal for those who are allergic or intolerant. My favourite combo is Favvo in pita bread with sweet potato fries and Lemonana.

Reggev Hummus

If you’re a hummus fan it’s hard not to like Reggev Hummus located at Skanstull. The Israeli fast food joint is the perfect lunch and dinner destination. They serve creamy hummus made daily from scratch, loaded with different toppings, from vegan to meat. Reggev Hummus has quick and friendly staff always ready to help you find the best dish. Try Hazilim!

Matapoteket

Johan and Maria strive to educate people about raw food and spread the knowledge regarding the benefits of eating healthy through their carefully designed raw food cooking lessons, lectures, exhibitions and happenings at their little but glorious restaurant. I recommend Matapoteket’s amazing Simply Salad, any of their super smoothies and of course their mint chocolate and hemp raw food ball. Affordable, fresh, and healthy.

Hälsocafeét

Lactose free. Gluten free. Sugar free. Vegan. Do you need more reasons to visit Hälsocafeét?

Raw and vegan desserts, super foods, Açai bowls, smoothies, salads and fresh juices. Hälsocafeét is a friendly green oasis located between Zinkensdamm and Maiatorget t-banna stations. All warm beverages are made with oat milk. If you like Chai latte you should try Hälsocafeét’s version, and if the weather is warm you should order an iced Chai latte and sit within the inner garden to soak up some sun.

Not only does Bliss specialise in raw vegan food, it also organises yoga and meditation events, cooking courses, parties and other events. A serene and blissful meeting place for Stockholm’s vegan community. Food for the soul. Food for the heart. Food for the mind.

What Is Fika In Sweden?

Fika is a Swedish tradition that involves taking a break to enjoy coffee and something sweet. It’s a unique and essential part of everyday life in Sweden, and it’s not just about the food and drink. Fika is seen as a way to slow down, relax, connect with friends and co-workers, or read a book by yourself.

So while indulging in a delicious treat, you’re also practicing self-care and strengthening relationships. In many ways, it’s similar to the concept of hygge .

Traditionally, Fika is enjoyed twice a day – once in the morning and again in the afternoon. However, it can also be done any time of the day and as often as you like, especially on weekends or special occasions.

In Sweden, Fika is not rushed; it’s about taking the time to enjoy the moment and refuel both physically and mentally.

When I visited Stockholm in January, I fully embraced Fika – as it was a great excuse to get out of the cold for a while.

So if you’re planning to travel to Stockholm, be sure to partake in this delicious tradition!

How Do You Pronounce Swedish Fika?

Before we dive into the best vegan cafes for Fika, let’s make sure you know how to pronounce this essential Swedish word!

Fika is pronounced ‘fee-kah,’ with equal emphasis on both syllables. Practice saying it a few times before your trip to Stockholm; I promise it will come in handy!

10 Best Vegan Fika Stockholm

Now, onto the good stuff – my top 10 picks for the best vegan Fika in Stockholm. These cafes not only have delicious plant-based options, but they also have a cosy and inviting atmosphere perfect for Fika.

1. Fern And Fika

A pink milkshake next to a plate with a chocolate brownie with pink blobs on the top. This photo was taken at Fern and Fika cafe in Stockholm which is one of the best places for vegan fika in Stockholm

I absolutely adored this place. I stopped in here during my self-guided tour of the Stockholm metro art , as it is just a short walk from the Hornstull station.

Fern and Fika is a 100% vegan cafe that offers a range of sweet treats, including cinnamon buns, cakes, and cookies. They also have savoury options like sandwiches and quiches if you’re feeling peckish, and a bunch of gluten free options too!

I ordered a chocolate brownie and a pink latte which were both delicious and very instagrammable!

☕ Address: Långholmsgatan 11, 117 33 Stockholm, Sweden

2. Coffee Stop

This tiny but cosy cafe is tucked away down an alley just off Stortorget Plaza (the main plaza in Gamla Stan) and is a hidden gem.

They have a good range of vegan options here. I opted for a vegan chokladbollar and a glass of non-alcoholic Swedish glogg. Both were delicious!

The cafe was quiet and warm, making it the perfect refuge from the snow outside.

☕ Address: Skomakargatan 9, 111 29 Stockholm, Sweden

3. Dirty Coco

A cafe with pink flowers covering the walls and hanging down from the ceiling

Dirty Coco is so much fun! It’s one of the most instagrammable cafes I’ve ever been to and reminded me of EL&N cafe in London .

Dirty Coco, located in Stockholm’s busy shopping district, is all about making food an unforgettable experience. This vibrant and cozy café not only serves incredibly delicious dishes but also creates unforgettable moments. When it comes to Swedish brunch, lunch, or Fika, Dirty Coco is the place to be.

They had a small selection of vegan sweet treats. I opted for a dark hot chocolate and chocolate-covered strawberries, it was yummy and felt incredibly indulgent!

☕ Address: Drottninggatan 65, 111 36 Stockholm, Sweden

💁🏻‍♀️ JJ’s TOP TIP: This place is popular and can get super busy so consider making a reservation before turning up

4. Espresso House

A slice of blueberry pie and a coffee on a table in a cafe. The table is next to a window, outside you can see the street covered in snow

Espresso House is a popular chain in Stockholm and you will find these coffee shops everywhere you go. It has a similar vibe to Starbucks.

They have an amazing range of vegan options and I tried several different cakes, cookies, and traditional Swedish pastries here. My favourite treat was their vegan blueberry pie. It was absolutely mouthwatering!

☕ Address: Multiple locations around the city

5. Cafe Krans

vegan food tour stockholm

This is a lovely little cafe in the heart of Gamla Stan. They have a couple of good vegan options, I had a mushroom pesto toasty and really enjoyed it.

Cafe Krans has a really welcoming atmosphere and is in a perfect location, close to most of the popular sights nearby. This cafe also serves delicious traditional pastries, so it’s an excellent spot if you’re with non-vegan friends or family.

☕ Address: Västerlånggatan 26, 111 27 Stockholm, Sweden

6. Brod And Salt

vegan food tour stockholm

Brod & Salt is another popular chain of coffee shops in Stockholm. They have multiple locations around the city, making it a convenient option for Fika on the go.

It’s a great place to pick up a vegan cinnamon bun. The smoothie bowls looked really good too, although I didn’t get a chance to try one myself.

7. Konsthallen

vegan food tour stockholm

Konsthallen is located next to the Abba Museum, so is a great place to stop by if you are spending the day on Museum Island (Djurgården).

They had a few vegan food options here, including a delicious roasted veg toasted sandwich. The cafe had lots of warm blankets to wrap up in, which was much needed as it was freezing outside when I visited. I also really appreciated the free refills of coffee!

☕ Address: Allmänna gränd 2, 115 21 Stockholm, Sweden

vegan food tour stockholm

Mahalo is a cute fully vegan cafe in the trendy Södermalm neighbourhood. They have a fantastic range of vegan options, including delicious, healthy, plant-based smoothie bowls, pancakes, and yummy breakfast options.

But what makes Mahalo stand out is their selection of breakfast pastries. I highly recommend trying the quinoa croissant, which comes with vanilla cream cheese, strawberry compote, and pecans.

☕ Address: Hornsgatan 61, 118 49 Stockholm, Sweden

9. Kafé Ingenstans

vegan food tour stockholm

A cozy haven, Kafé Ingenstans offers a warm and intimate atmosphere that’s perfect for a leisurely Fika or brunch.

As well as serving vegan versions of typical Swedish cardamon buns, they also serve a variety of sandwiches and salads. Best of all, they even have vegan feta cheese! The café also plays host to a delightful brunch service on the weekends.

It’s located a little further outside of the city than other places on this list but it’s just a 15-minute metro ride from T-Centralen.

☕ Address: Bastuhagsvägen 41, 122 42 Enskede, Sweden

10. Bagar’n Hornstull

vegan food tour stockholm

Bagar’n Hornstull is the perfect place to stop for a snack if you’re strolling around Södermalm. It’s a small bakery with vegan options of pastries and baked breads. They also have a small seating area if you want to sit down and enjoy your treats.

The staff were friendly, and I really enjoyed their vegan version of traditional Swedish pastries. They accept cash too, which is rare in Stockholm!

☕ Address: Långholmsgatan 23, 117 33 Stockholm, Sweden

On the Vegan Trail

A Sweden Itinerary for 9 Days

Crossing Sweden from West to East

Boat houses on the west coast of Sweden, near Hamburgsund

Sweden is a very friendly and beautiful country. If you are a nature lover, this is the place to be for you. There are beautiful green forests wherever you go, and the coasts are spectacular. But Sweden also has a rich history and amazing old towns and cities. Although Sweden is a huge country (it's 1,844 km / 1,146 mi from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north), you can get a good taste of what Sweden has to offer if you cross from Gothenburg on the west coast to Stockholm on the east coast. We have made a 9 day Sweden itinerary to see it all.

Haga District Gothenburg

Picturesque Haga District in Gothenburg

Gothenburg (göteborg).

Sweden's second-largest city, Gothenburg, is situated on the west coast of Sweden in the beautiful province of Bohuslän. It is a vibrant city with lots of students, charming cafés and restaurants, and a historic center with lovely architecture. The city is full of beautiful buildings and monuments, serene parks, and enjoyable spots on the waterfront.

One of the highlights is the Haga district, at walking distance from the downtown area. It is full of historic buildings, interesting shops and there are plenty of vegan restaurants. You won't have any problems finding vegan food in Gothenburg, or Sweden for that matter. Sweden is surprisingly vegan , even away from the cities. Even if restaurants or cafés do not advertise vegan food, they will always veganize dishes or make vegan food for you.

For sightseeing, we recommend climbing the Skansen Kronan. It is a steep hill in the center of town, with a fortress on top, offering magnificent views of the city. The botanical garden is also worth visiting, you can easily reach it by taking a tram or bus.

In and around town

I would certainly recommend getting a public transport card for 1 or 2 days. There are very good connections everywhere by bus and tram. Most of the city ferries (in the harbor area called Göta Älv) are included in the ticket, and even some ferries going to the islands in the archipelago.

If you have seen most of the city highlights on your first day, we recommend going to the islands in the archipelago on your second day. A downtown tram will take you right to the ferry terminal. Most ferries are conveniently included in the public transport pass. You can choose one island or go island hopping all day long. Styrsö would be a good choice, with plenty of walking options around the island. These islands are a good example of what Sweden's west coast has to offer: rocky coastlines, beautiful cottages, charming harbors, and quiet surroundings. Some of the islands do not even allow traffic on them, all transport is done by electric golf carts.

Mora church

The quaint little town of Mora, in Dalarna province

Gothenburg to karlstad (308 km / 191 mi).

The second place to spend the night on this Sweden itinerary is Karlstad, on the northern edge of lake Vänern. Although Sweden has a fairly good public transport system and long-distance buses and trains, it does not allow you to make all the stops you would want, so we recommend renting a car from one of the downtown depots. Driving in Sweden is a charm, there is hardly any traffic and Sweden are very polite drivers.

A great first stop is Marstrand , a lovely island with a castle and beautiful buildings, about an hour north of Gothenburg (you would have to make a detour to get there). The ferry (no cars) is just a formality, it only takes a few minutes. You could swim across if you wanted to. If you can allow yourself an extra day in the itinerary, this is the perfect place to rent a kayak. I have done it myself a few times, there is no better place to paddle around than here. They rent out sea kayaks, so you steer with your feet and propel with your arms. Floating between the rocky outcrops is just amazing. If you feel adventurous enough you can also circle the island on the wavy sea.

Stops along the way

For lunch, we recommend stopping at the Konghalla Center , on the edge of town, right next to the road. Not charming, but it has many places with vegan food. You can choose from pizza, burgers, salads, Korean, and many more.

Between here and Karlstad there are a few places worth visiting. The first one is the Dalsands kanal , a man-made waterway with an elevated section for boats. You can walk around, visit the shops and cafes or spend some time in the very informative visitor center.

In Fengersfors you should certainly pay a visit to Not Quite , an abandoned factory now taken over by artists. Most of the buildings still look like they used to, with many machines still inside. The spaces now have art inside them, which can you visit free of charge. There are shops and a lovely cafe.

Karlstad is the end of this day's itinerary. It's an interesting city with some sights on offer. For instance the nature reserve of Mariebergsskogen, or one of many museums. You can find more information on the city's website . The main reason to stop in Karlstad is the good selection of nice hotels and (vegan) restaurants.

Korean food"

Karlstad to Mora (245 km / 152 mi)

This Sweden itinerary continues towards today's final destination Mora , the center of Swedish culture. A beautiful city in the province of Dalarna. Dalarna was made famous by that Swedish furniture manufacturer, IKEA, with iconic images decorating its stores. If you follow the E45 road north towards Mora there are a few places well worth a visit.

Fast food & 'loppis'

Make a stop at Gräsmarks kyrkan , a beautiful historic church in a lakeside setting. A little further along, the town of Sunne is certainly worth a visit. It is situated between two lakes and has a charming center. A few kilometers north of Sunne is Diner 45 , a lovely diner in American style, offering various vegan dishes. This would be a great place to enjoy your lunch.

Driving along the Swedish road you will probably already have seen many signs with 'loppis' . A loppis is a second-hand' store', selling all kinds of household items, art, antiques, and assorted junk. It's more like an American garage sale or a British car boot sale. Every self-respecting Swede has a loppis in their own garden once in a while. Some loppis are permanent and have turned into businesses. There is a great one only 2 km from Diner 45 , just of the E45 in Stöpafors . Please keep in mind that non-vegan items could be on display. This is Sweden after all, and hunting is a popular pastime.

Dala horse

A set of finished products at the Dala Horse factory

You can easily spend two full days in Mora. There are plenty of things to see and visit, for instance, the Vasalopp museum . A small but interesting museum explaining everything there is to know about the world's biggest cross-country ski race. A spectacular race running 90 km (56 mi) from Sälen to Mora that draws 100,000 participants. In the summertime, you can walk the Vasaloppet track or parts of it. There are plenty of other walking tracks starting in Mora. I walked part of the Vasaloppet, enthusiastically cheered on by many, many mosquitos. 😉

'Horsing' around

A true Sweden itinerary would not be complete without outdoor activities. Mora is a base point for many such activities. You can rent a canoe or kayak to go on lake Siljan or the rivers surrounding Mora. Cycling is also very popular, you can even rent a rail bike , a special kind of bike made to cycle on an abandoned stretch of railroad tracks. And of course, you can cycle the Vasaloppet tracks.

If you are more interested in culture, there is an interesting outdoor museum. Siljans Forest Museum is a forestry museum showing you all about one of the region's most important industries. Half an hour east of Mora you can visit the Dala horse factories in Nusnäs. This is the place where the original Dala horses (the red lacquered ones) are manufactured, by hand. The production facilities can all be visited, and of course, there is a large gift shop.

Sleeping & eating

Mora has a good selection of hotels that also offer vegan breakfast, for example, the Mora Hotell & Spa . A very good alternative is to rent a traditional Swedish cabin on the campsite, which is only 10 min. walk from the city center. Eating out in Mora is also possible, but vegan options are not as abundant as in Gothenburg.

Falun Gruva

Old mining buildings at the Falun Gruva copper mine in Falun

Mora to stockholm (308 km / 192 mi).

Before you make your way to Sweden's capital Stockholm in this Sweden itinerary, there are a few things en route well worth a visit. In Rättvik, for instance, you can visit the Rättvik church and historic village, beautifully set on a lake. There is also an adventurous outdoor center in Rättvik with summer rodel tracks, where you can shoot down the mountain on a sled through a metal gutter. If you have never done this before, this is the place to do it!

Falun gruva

In Falun you can visit the copper mines . An active mine up until 1992. The large open-pit mine and historic buildings are all freely accessible and certainly worth some hours of your day. You can also visit some of 4,000 mine shafts on a paid guided tour, that takes you 67 meters underground.

Although there is a small restaurant at the mine, they didn't serve any vegan food when we were last there. For lunch, we recommend going to the Kupolen Köpcenter in Borlänge a little further along the road. A large shopping center with plenty of vegan options, even sushi.

Lake with cottages"

From Falun it's not that far anymore to Stockholm. We suggest you drop off your rental car on arrival. You won't be needing it in Stockholm as public transport is superb. There are plenty of hotels to choose from, but we usually stay in a Scandic hotel . Their breakfast buffet is enormous and there are a lot of vegan options. Best of all: it is included in the price. If you are on a budget, take a hotel away from the center and commute by tram or train. Otherwise, pick one of many (Scandic) hotels in the city center. My personal favorite is Scandic Sjöfartshotellet , at walking distance from the old town and with great views across the harbor.

Two full days in Stockholm will give you a good impression of what is on offer. If your itinerary allows, you can easily spend a few more days here. Although Stockholm is not a vast city and most attractions can be reached on foot, it could be worthwhile to get a public transport pass. The trams that cross the city are frequent and convenient. So are the ferries crossing the harbor areas.

You certainly don't want to miss Stockholm's old town, Gamla Stan, with narrow cobbled roads, lined with beautifully colored historic buildings, churches, and castles. There is so much to see here, I would not know where to start. You can walk around for hours in Gamla Stan .

Gamla Stan, Stockholm

Gamla Stan (Old Town) in Sweden's capital city: Stockholm

If you are up for some fun and activities, take a ferry to Djurgården island, only a few minutes away from downtown. Here you can buy a ticket for Gröna Lund , an amusement park with thrilling rides. Also on Djurgården are the ABBA museum, the Vasa museum with a restored historic ship, and various other museums. Some of them you can visit for free. Then take a tram back to the center and visit the astonishing Stockholm City Hall or relax in one of many cafes in Kungsträdgarden.

A perfect ending in vegan paradise

Nowhere in Sweden, you can vegan food easier than in Stockholm. There are too many places to name them all. One of my favorites is Hermans on the island of Södermalm. It's a buffet-style vegan restaurant with outside terraces and great views of the harbor and the city. But there are many others!

This Sweden itinerary started in Gothenburg on the west coast and ended in Stockholm on the east coast. If you need to return to Gothenburg for your international flight, you can easily fly back from Stockholm's two airports or take a train or bus. It takes approximately 4 hours 15 min. We hope you have a great time in Sweden!!

Best Vegan City Food Tours – Europe

Ten years ago, city food tours were not really a thing. Now every city of any size has some sort of food tour BUT most of them are not vegan.

While we wait for a vegan world, we are excited to share with you some 100% vegan city food tours that exist in Europe. Yes! That’s right! Many local vegans are creating fun and interesting tours where you get to sample a wide array of the sights, sounds, and vegan food of European cities in just a couple of hours!

What are the features of a city food tour?

  • They are run privately or on an ‘on request’ type of arrangement, or they have group trips where you can just join on to a scheduled departure.
  • They will have some sort of guide. Sometimes the guide will be an official guide that has an encyclopedic knowledge of art history, architecture, and the culture of the place you are visiting, on other occasions perhaps not so much. They will probably be good storytellers and be able to manage groups well.
  • The tour will probably require to you travel around the city, probably on food, but other types of transport might be required. You might pass by important monuments and spend some time learning about the city as well as visiting many places to try different foods and specialties. Sometimes the portions will be smaller so you can fit more places in.
  • The cost of the tour includes the food that you will eat.
  • They are usually between 2-3 hours in length.

We really love vegan city food tours because:

  • We’re vegan (obviously)
  • They are really good if you love trying food from the area you are visiting.
  • Vegan city tours are fantastic if you are short of time – You’ll get to learn something about the city you are visiting and get to visit 4 or 5 different eateries.
  • They’ll get you into places that might be hard to do on your own – for example, on our France trips we worked with a vegan city tours company and they were able to set up a cheese tasting with champagne where we got to sample about 6 different cheeses (including the most amazing Brie you have ever tried)
  • Your guide is a fantastic source of information about the city. They’ll be able to recommend other amazing places to eat during your stay.

So where can you find these vegan city food tours?

Well, you can often find vegan city tours by simply searching CITY NAME + vegan food tour on your preferred search engine, you can check Instagram and social media. Alternatively, you can simply read on, because we have researched and created a list of food tours just for you for your next visit to Europe!

During the “ Florence History & Vegan Food Tour ” offered by Fantastic Florence , you will have the unique chance of combining genuine vegan food and a historical walk through the heart of Florence with an expert guide.

The tour will start with an espresso and a few raw vegan cookies facing the extraordinary medieval basilica of Santa Maria Novella, covered by spectacular marbles in Renaissance style. You’ll walk through the Mercato Centrale where the guest will get to know the typical unsalted Tuscan bread and the traditional focaccia (schiacciata), together with a sample of delicious truffle products and taste the dish of the day, like pasta e fagioli, ribollita, pappa al pomodoro or panzanella. You’ll also get to sample gelato.

During the tour, guests will also walk by the most important monuments of Florence, like Santa Maria Novella Basilica, the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Bell Tower, and Signoria square. Did you know that Venice has its own tapas tradition? It’s called Cicchetti and if you get off the beaten track down Venice’s maze of streets, you will see plates of Cicchetti in the windows of bars and lots of locals standing outside socializing and enjoying the small bites of food and the conversation. Now, it will come as no surprise that these Bacari (local bars) are not known for their vegan bites. That’s where Venice Vegan Food Tours come in. They will work with some preferred bacari to make vegan versions. Meet lots of new people, be led through the maze of Venice streets, and eat delicious Cicchetti with your two vegan Venetian friends (your tour leaders) while learning about the rich culture and history of Venice. At the time of writing, there isn’t a website yet, but you can find contact details on their Facebook Page .

Behind the Colosseum, Domus Aurea, and Trajan’s market lies Rome’s best area for gourmet street food: Rione Monti. It is a beautiful bohemian-themed urban village, famous for its artists, furniture, stunning architecture, and thriving vegan food community.

An exuberant local vegan guide waits for you with the warmest “Buon Giorno!” at the fountain that is in front of Basilica Papale Santa Maria Maggiore at 11:30 am. There, the fascinating tour starts. A vegan selection of attentively chosen Italian food and drinks awaits along the way at 3 of the best vegan restaurants in the neighborhood: antipasti, pasta, pizza, gelato, to name a few. Even before you realize it, the 3-hours long tour finishes alongside the Fori Imperiali. However, with your senses delighted by the finger-licking good food and the one-of-a-kind walk offered by the tour, you may continue exploring around and living “la dolce vita” in the Eternal City of Rome, on your own!

The tour lasts three hours, you’ll go to three restaurants in total, eating a selection of the house specials at each stop. There is a good balance of Italian comfort and gourmet food. Every location is hand-picked by their expert team in collaboration with the local guide.

It’s not just about the food. Your guide will explain Rome’s history and culture as you embark on this culinary journey.

The tour ends with a very very satisfied belly alongside the Fori Imperiali where you can take a breathtaking view of the Roman Empire and the Coliseo.

Camden Town

This northwestern district of London is well known for its eclectic Camden Market, a place bursting with popular culture, the arts, and most importantly for us – street food. Whilst other vegan food tours try to strike a balance between refined nibbles and fast food, the Camden tour goes a step further and encourages us to immerse ourselves entirely in its vast selection of plant-based street bites. From vegan fried chicken to nachos, what better way to spend the day than a walk through this vibrant area surrounded by luscious food.

The adventure begins in typical London style with The Camden Town Tube Station serving as a starting point for the 3-hour tour. The tour itself provides us with a chance to soak in Camden’s unparalleled atmosphere, including a vast selection of unique shops and alternative styles. And at the end of the tour, why not take the chance to visit Primrose Hill, a mere 10 minutes away from Camden Market. Commonly regarded as one of the best views in Northern London, Primrose Hill serves as an escape from the surrounding urban commotion whilst simultaneously providing a great vantage point on the UK’s capital.

The adult tickets cost €47 each, with the youth and child tickets being cheaper at €37 and €25 respectively.

Previous Guests Praise Veg Jaunts and Journeys

A happy customer.

I wanted to share what an incredible trip we had. I am describing our adventure to others as magical. The sites, the food and especially the people were all amazing. Considering neither of us had been outside of the US, there was some anxiety at the start, but with your excellent directions and experience it was clear immediately that we were in good hands. Being in a group with folks that live and eat with the same beliefs was so comforting. As a bonus, it was very fun to talk about vegan recipes and foods that others enjoy.

Meals were generally great. Really the entire experience was fantastic and well-organized. I enjoyed the whole time, learned a lot, ate well, enjoyed the company, especially thanks to Kim. It is difficult to think of what could be improved. I have already told a vegan about it.

This is the one of the best trips I’ve had. The guide was great – extremely knowledgeable, flexible and helpful. The food was taken care of – even when it was not included, they were mostly arranged and I didn’t have to wonder where to eat. The sights were beautiful – in all 4 locations – Lisbon, Porto, Obidos and Sintra – the itinerary was very well constructed. Of course, be prepared to walk a lot and eat a lot 🙂

Vickie M.G.

I took my first trip to Europe with Kim’s tour to Scotland and it was amazing! Our group members were great and we became a family along the way. For me this was the best way to travel – some place new with a small, intimate group and a tour guide who is the bomb! 🙌😎 Thanks so much Kim!!!

Well Organized. Fun. Educational. Delicious Food. Worth every penny. These are a few of the sentiments we have about our recent trip to Asheville, NC on one of Veg Jaunts and Journeys fantastic tours. Kim, our tour guide and fabulous leader, made the experience very memorable by having our outings well organized and by her being flexible when we wanted to detour from the planned event.

Mark and Sandy L.

Home safely but missing you fellow travelers all already. Hope to see you all on future Jaunts and Journeys. Wonderful trip! Thanks Kim and Wendy. Well done!
