Take That's musical 'Greatest Days' will be released across cinemas in the UK and Ireland on Friday, June 16.

What is the plot of 'Greatest Days'?

Like the stage production, the movie follows four former schoolgirls who had their lives changed at a concert by their favourite boyband, and then reunite 25 years later to reminisce on their memories.

Gary Barlow , Mark Owen and Howard Donald will executive produce the film, just as they did for The Band.

  • Robbie Williams and Mark Owen reunite as they sit in Robbie's kids' high chairs: 'Babies of the band!'

Filmed in the UK and based on location in Greece, the film follows the girls on a nostalgic tale of friendship and negotiating adulthood.

Tim Firth wrote the musical, which began touring in 2017, and told the Daily Mail about the story: "A tragedy happens, then we jump forward 25 years to see the women those girls became and they realise they were fools to have been apart for so long.

Like the stage production, the movie follows four schoolgirls who had their lives changed at a concert by their favourite boyband, and then reunite 25 years later to reminisce on their memories.

"It’s about friendship and the power of the songs they loved. The band and the bits are secondary; it’s about the fans who loved them."

Speaking about the film,Take That said: “ Greatest Days is a film dedicated to all those who have supported us throughout the years.

  • Why did Robbie Williams first leave Take That? And what year was it?
  • Take That's 6 most historic moments, from their 2006 reunion to Jason Orange's final performance

"It puts a mirror on our audience – it’s a celebration of our music but it’s literally all about the fans and their friendships.

“Our fans have been on a 30-year journey with us and we have an incredibly strong bond with them, so seeing that they will be represented on screen by such a strong, talented cast is incredibly exciting.”

Who will star in the film version of Take That's Greatest Days?

Greatest Days – The Official Take That Musical to tour in 2023

September 21, 2022 Last updated: May 7, 2023 2:15 pm By Admin

Adam Kenwright is delighted to present GREATEST DAYS – The Official Take That Musical , with a book by award-winning playwright Tim Firth. The musical will embark on a major UK and Ireland tour from 5 May 2023 and will coincide with the summer 2023 release of the official movie version of this smash-hit musical, starring Aisling Bea and Jayde Adams. GREATEST DAYS celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Take That’s first ever UK number 1 single Pray.

Greatest Days - The Official Take That Musical

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen are Take That in 2022 and continue the legacy of one of the most successful band’s in British chart history, with over 45 million records sold worldwide and 12 number 1 hits in the UK. Formed as a five-piece in 1989, they enjoyed immediate success with their first two albums charting at number 2 & number 1 respectively. The third album Nobody Else confirmed their global domination, selling over six million copies and topping the charts in 11 countries. The departure of band member Robbie Williams prompted a break-up in 1996 and nine years in the wilderness before the remaining four members reunited for 2005’s The Ultimate Tour. This sparked one of the greatest comebacks in British music history with Take That going on to release three number 1 albums in just four years. Robbie’s return for 2011’s Progress saw them break UK records for the fastest-selling album of the 21st century and fastest-selling tour of all time. Williams’ second departure, along with that of Jason Orange, left the remaining three members to release III, which was certified platinum. In 2019, the band celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of Odyssey, a greatest hits album, which reached number 1, and a UK and European stadium and arena tour.

Tim Firth is one of the UK’s most beloved award-winning writers and composers in film, television and theatre. His extensive theatre credits include the Olivier Award-winning musical Our House (West End), the UK Theatre Award-winning This is My Family (Sheffield Crucible), the MEN Award-winning Neville’s Island (Nottingham Playhouse and West End, Evening Standard & Olivier nomination) and Calendar Girls (Chichester Festival Theatre, West End) which broke all British records for a professional and amateur play, was nominated for an Olivier and won the Whatsonstage Best Comedy Award. Tim collaborated with lifelong friend Gary Barlow on Calendar Girls The Musical which had a successful run in the West End and then toured the UK and Ireland, winning a Whatsonstage Award and receiving several Olivier nominations along the way. Tim’s film credits include Calendar Girls and Kinky Boots. Recently, Tim co-created and directed Gary Barlow’s one-man show A Different Stage which has toured the UK and is currently running in the West End.

Greatest Days – The Official Take That Musical, will embark on a major UK and Ireland tour from 5 May 2023 and will coincide with the summer 2023 release of the official movie version of this smash-hit musical, starring Aisling Bea and Jayde Adams. Greatest Days celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Take That’s first ever UK number 1 single Pray.

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen are members of Take That in 2022 and continue the legacy of one of the most successful band’s in British chart history. Formed as a five-piece in 1989, they enjoyed immediate success with their first two albums charting at number 2 and number 1 respectively. They’ve said: “We are so thrilled that this new production now titled ‘Greatest Days’ is launching next year.  We had an enormous amount of fun working on the original version and can’t wait to help bring this new production to over 30 cities across the UK and Ireland from May 2023.”

The musical follows a group of five best friends in the 1990s who are obsessed with their favourite boy band. The girls then reunite more than 20 years later with a plan to see their heartthrobs one last time in what could be the Greatest Days of their lives. Greatest Days features more than 15 of Take That’s record-breaking songs alongside a heart-warming and hilarious story of love, loss and laughter from the award-winning writer Tim Firth.

Tim Firth is one of the UK’s most beloved award-winning writers and composers in film, television and theatre. Tim collaborated with lifelong friend Gary Barlow on Calendar Girls The Musical which had a successful run in the West End and then toured the UK and Ireland, receiving several Olivier nominations along the way. Recently, Tim co-created and directed Gary Barlow’s one-man show A Different Stage which has toured the UK and is currently running in the West End.

  • Trivia Easyjet Airlines did not pay a penny towards the production costs despite featuring prominently in one song and dance scene. They did however loan the production team one of their Airbus aircraft (that was in the hangar having an overhaul) free of charge for 48 hours for filming on condition that the livery was kept intact and not covered up or changed.
  • Goofs The beginning of the film takes place in 1993, when the schoolgirls are age 15/16 (and the same year Take That had their first number 1 UK single. The film was released in 2023. However the character of Rachel (Aisling Bea) refers to these events as being "25 years ago". So either the film is set in 2018 or the scriptwriters have lost five years somewhere in the mix. Note: The original stage musical was written in 2017 so they are presumably using the same script (which would make the timeline correct).

Take a look at Take That's career

Starting with a line-up of five young men, Take That consisted of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Robbie Williams, with the original (short lived) name of Kick It.

Take That's original line-up of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Robbie Williams. Thankfully they changed their name and after a few unsuccessful songs in the early 90s Take That's breakthrough hit 'It Only Takes A Minute' was released. The song was a cover of a 1975 song by Taveres and reached number 7 in the charts.

In 1992 Take That had hits with 'A Million Love Songs' and 'Could It Be Magic'. The boys' follow-up single 'Could It Be Magic' quickly propelled them to super-stardom with a string of number 1s not far away.

Take That had huge success in 1993 with 'Pray', 'Relight My Fire' (featuring Lulu) and 'Babe'.

The band's success continued in 1994 with 'Everything Changes' and 'Sure'. Here they are performing at The BRITs 1994.

However, in July 1995 after countless hits, fans heard the devastating news; Robbie Williams would be leaving the band following friction with other band members. Robbie later admitted in a TV documentary in 2005, that he did some "stupid stuff" after parting ways with the band over 20 years ago, but said he didn't regret it because he was young.

The remaining members of Take That continued to perform as a quartet.

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange performed at The BRITs in 1996. The remaining group of four continued to tour and release songs for another year, releasing 'Never Forget' and the Bee Gees cover 'How Deep Is Your Love', finally announcing they would be disbanding in February 1996. 'How Deep Is Your Love' became the band's final number 1 before they reformed 10 years later.

Late 90's

During the late 90s three of the band members, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams, enjoyed solo singing careers with varying degrees of success. Jason Orange went into acting and Howard Donald, despite being the lead singer on a number of Take That songs, made a name for himself as a club DJ across Europe.

Skip nearly a decade and ITV reunited the group for a documentary called Take That: For the Record in which the former members of the boyband were interviewed, discussing how they were discovered and looking back at their experiences in the band.

Following the successful reception of the documentary by fans and the press, the decision was made to reunite with the 'post Robbie' line-up and a 2006 tour titled the 'The Ultimate Tour' was announced. After a break of nearly 10 years, Take That members Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange reformed in 2005.

Take That performed on The X Factor in 2006. In 2006 they had a Number 1 single with 'Patience'. Gone were the cheesy pop tunes of the 90s, Take That had grown up with their fans and the men, now in their 30s revealed a much more mature sound, with their 2006 comeback single 'Patience'. The song quickly hit the top spot in the UK and around Europe becoming the eighth best-selling single of 2006 spending a massive 11 weeks in the top 10.

In 2007 Take That embarked on their 'Beautiful World' tour. Since their reunion as a four-piece, it was clear that they hadn't lost the momentum they had in the 90s with another string of hits including 'Shine', 'Rule the World' and 'Greatest Day'.

After the release of fifth album 'The Circus' in December 2008, the boys headed out on their 'Take That Present: The Circus Live' tour to promote it - and what a spectacle it was! Tickets to the entire tour sold it in less than five hours, making it the fastest-selling tour in UK history.

Robbie Williams made an unexpected return to the group in 2010, joining forces with Gary Barlow - the first time since 1995 - writing a song that would feature on both Take That and Robbie's albums. Then, later that year, the news that all Take That fans had been waiting for was confirmed, the original line-up would be reforming for the wildly successful album, 'Progress' and its live tour. Their lead single 'The Flood' was released and peaked at number 2 featuring both Gary and Robbie as lead vocals.

Following the band's 'Progress Live' tour in 2011 they then decided to take a break.

A couple of years later Take That reformed as a group to record their seventh studio album, but it was short-lived, in 2014 both Robbie and Jason decided to leave. Robbie had recently become a dad for the second time and saying he would find it difficult "logistically". The band continued as a trio made up of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen.

Take That returned earlier this year with their new album 'Wonderland' and their single 'Giants' which peaked at number 13. 'Giants' was written by the remaining three members of Take That along with some co-writers and the lyric video can be seen below.

After celebrating Take That's 30th anniversary in 2019, the band put out a Greatest Hits album called 'Odyssey', which featured song "re-imagined with new arrangements and production". It debuted at Number 1, and the group embarked on a huge UK tour in 2019.

Take That reunited with former member Robbie Williams for a very special performance in May 2020 during the lockdown amid the global pandemic of Coronavirus, performing a 40-minute set.

The band's musical film Greatest Day was confirmed in June 2020! Although it had been in the pipeline for a couple of years, things started to get in motion in the summer, which is based on the jukebox musical The Band, containing Take That songs.

November 2020

Gary released his fifth solo studio album on 27th November, 'Music Played By Humans', which debuted at Number 1 in the UK! It features singles 'Elita' featuring Michael Bublé and Sebastiån Yatra, 'Incredible' and 'This Is My Time'. Other album tracks feature vocals from the likes of Beverley Knight, Alesha Dixon and James Corden among others.

On 7th October 2021, Gary surprised fans with the announcement that he was launching his own wine company. He shared photos from his new company Gary Barlow Wines on his social media.

In October 2021, Gary announced his first Christmas album 'The Dream Of Christmas' would come out on 26th November. The album includes new songs like 'How Christmas Is Supposed To Be' as well as Gary's take on some classic tunes. 'Sleigh Ride' and 'The Dream Of Christmas' were released on 28th October ahead of the album.

In January 2022, Gary Barlow announced he would be putting on a theatre performance show called ' A Different Stage ', with dates being added throughout the year.

2024 Masters leaderboard, winner: Scottie Scheffler's patience begets second green jacket in three years

Scheffler displayed a disciplined approach that, combined with extraordinary ball striking, turned sunday into an epic coronation at augusta national golf club.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Three straight birdies at the turn made the inevitable reality as Scottie Scheffler pulled away from a packed leaderboard at the 2024 Masters to become the 10th man in history to claim two green jackets in a three-year span. The 27-year-old Scheffler, spending his 82nd straight week as the No. 1 golfer in the world, left no doubt Sunday that what was already known is indeed true: every golf tournament he plays goes through him.

Scheffler finished 11 under -- four strokes clear of the field -- after entering the 88th playing of the Masters as an overwhelming favorite. He did nothing to dissuade his supporters over the first three rounds, either leading or staying within a single stroke after 18, 36 and 54 holes entering Sunday's finale.

Once a two-stroke lead after three holes became a four-way tie entering the turn Sunday, Scheffler flipped a switch and never looked back. He added to that three-birdie stretch from Nos. 8-10 by scoring three more on the 13th, 14th and 16th to keep Ludvig Åberg (-7) -- finishing second while playing in his first career major championship -- at arm's length.

"It's a difficult golf course to close out a win on," Scheffler explained. "You can't play overly defensive. ... You have to play to the correct spot and hit really good golf shots. I did that to the best of my abilities today and was fortunately able to hit some really key shots and make some nice birdies there on the back nine. Really, from hole 8 on, I played really, really nice golf."

Scheffler on Sunday became the 18th man to win two Masters and the first to do so over a three-year span since Bubba Watson (2012, 2014). He is also the fourth-youngest two-time Masters champion and the eighth golfer to win the first two major championships of his career at Augusta National.

With the 2024 tournament being his fifth Masters appearance, Scheffler is the second-fastest to have green jackets take up two hangers in his closet, the quickest to the achievement in 88 years (Horton Smith, third appearance, 1936).

Despite how simple Scheffler can make the game look, this Masters was anything but easy for the top name in the game. His iron play wasn't at his usually excellent level for most of the week, his tenor was tested plenty -- his pregnant wife and best friend not by his side like usual , instead at home days or weeks away from giving labor -- but when the correct shots in the correct moments were called upon, Scheffler answered.

Fighting his swing early on Sunday, Scheffler found himself in a dog fight with Åberg, Collin Morikawa and Max Homa all nipping at his heels. Scrambling saves were required to maintain his lead as he missed greens both short and long.

An uneasy feeling, Scheffler's short game took matters into its own hands. At its best when the tournament is often its tensest, his soft touch produced a stunner on the third from the bunker for his first birdie of the day.

His pursuers purred and had their moments, though. Åberg turned in 33 to touch the lead, Morikawa answered a Scheffler birdie on No. 8 with one of his own, and Homa lashed a mighty approach into 10.

The peloton was formed with 10 holes to play, and the thought of four of the best players in the world jostling through the second nine at Augusta National on Sunday raced through the minds of many. Unfortunately his peers, Scheffler raced away from the three-player pile up.

First, it was Morikawa who couldn't keep up as the two-time major champion needed two from the greenside bunker on No. 9 and ultimately carded a double bogey. Another followed on the 11th when his second found a watery grave.

Åberg had crashed just before them with the same fatal mistake. The Masters rookie battled back, it was too little too late. He ultimately became the third debutant in the last five years to finish runner-up.

Homa stood as Scheffler's last real threat as he sent a prayer into the air on Amen Corner's treacherous par-3 12th. It wasn't answered as Homa's ball traveled a yard too long, took a firm bounce and found a bush. Another double bogey ensued.

From a pack of four, only Scheffler was left standing.

While others took the bait and got greedy, Scheffler displayed discipline. While others tried to tame a brutally difficult Augusta National, Scheffler stayed patient. While others' emotions got the best of them, Scheffler remained calm.

Scheffler's superpower, his mental game, shined through when it mattered most. His ball striking gets praised and his short game is respected, but Scheffler's greatest strength has nothing to do with the club in his hand and everything to do with the mind of the person wielding it. The one now donning a second green jacket in three years.

Youngest two-time Masters champions

2024 masters leaderboard breakdown.

2. Ludvig Åberg (-7): After starting his Masters career with a 73, Åberg fired three straight under-par rounds including the only one in the 60s on Friday. A member of the penultimate pairing on Sunday, the Masters rookie felt it on the greens early. He curled in a ticklish birdie on No. 2 and another on No. 9 to head into the second nine with a share of the lead. Getting too aggressive down the hill into the 11th green, the young Swede's approach found the water and led to a double bogey -- his only dropped shots of the day. Åberg bounced back with two birdies over his next three holes to apply a smidge of pressure on Scheffler, but by then, the damage was done. The major debutant will learn from this mistake and be better for it. For now, he'll have to settle for a solo second.

T3. Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood (-4): Both Morikawa and Homa looked strong early. The two-time major champion did not miss a single approach shot across his first eight holes but was unable to connect on the greens. He stood square with Scheffler through this stretch of the golf course, but greed got the best of him on No. 9 when he tried to get too much out of his approach ultimately leading to the first of two double bogeys in a three-hole stretch.

Meanwhile, Homa was a surgeron around Augusta National. Picking and choosing his spots with care, the 33-year-old's birdie on the long 10th meant he had jumped into a share of the lead. He may have been too cautious when all is said is done as he erred long on the 12th, which led to his double bogey and refused to hit driver on the par-5 13th electing to play it as a three-shot hole. Still, it represents Homa's best major result and the return of major Morikawa.

"Greed got the best of me," Morikawa said. "Nine, can't miss it over there and can't leave it in the bunker. Eleven, just tried to hit too perfect of a shot. It's not like at that point I was trying to press. I knew where I stood. Yeah, it's just can't do that. In the past, I haven't done it, but kind of where the game's at. You kind of find your little stride. We put a lot of pieces of the puzzle together this week, but after watching Scottie this week, I know what to do if I really want to close this gap on what he's doing and how impressive he's playing."

T6. Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau (-2): After shooting the round of the tournament (65) on Thursday, DeChambeau carded three straight over-par rounds. The former U.S. Open champion fared well in the difficult conditions on Friday, but he lost his touch on the greens over the weekend. Remaining patient for the first half of the tournament, his aggression got the better of him late on Saturday and sunk his Masters chances. He fought back nicely with his hole-out on 18 in Round 3 and a couple birdies in the middle of his first nine on Sunday, but it was all for not. DeChambeau's T6 is his first finish inside the top 20 in his Masters career.

Take it in, Scottie Scheffler!

That is his sixth birdie in his last nine holes. Scheffler tacks one on 16 and his lead is four with two holes to play. The green jacket might as well be his.

3 up 3 to go

Scottie Scheffler makes par on No. 15 to remain at 10 under and three clear of Ludvig Aberg. Three pars should secure him his second Masters title in three years.

Scheffler birdies 14

He is up three with four to go. He taps in his fifth birdie in the last seven holes and now heads to the par-5 15th. Aberg was unable to go for the green in two after a wayward drive and needs to put a wedge close.

Aberg keeps fighting

The young Swede has rattled off two straight birdies to get within two of Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 just made birdie on 13 to get to 9 under. It looks like it will come down to these two as Max Homa sits four adrift at 5 under with only four holes to play.

LIV Golf Masters: Results, scores leaderboard for LIV tour as DeChambeau finishes top 10

Out of the 13 LIV players who started the 88th edition of The Masters on Thursday, only nine made the cut on Friday. Those players proceeded to the final round at Augusta National in pursuit of the championship, but alas, no such victory for LIV golf emerged.

Jon Rahm , the defending Masters champion and LIV golfer, had a rough start to his campaign for consecutive green jackets, scoring 1-over-73 on Thursday, 2-over-74 on Friday, and even-72 on Saturday. He remained unable to recapture his magic from 2023 in the final round on Sunday, shooting a 4-over-76.

At one point during the tournament, it appeared possible that Bryson DeChambeau , another LIV golfer, could compete for the top spot with favorite Scottie Scheffler . DeChambeau scored a 7-under-65 on Day 1. But unfortunately, he was never able to reach 8-under. He spent the next three days slowly falling out of the top-five at Augusta, and was not even the sole top-finishing LIV golfer, with Cameron Smith tying him for sixth place in the tournament at 2-under-par.

Here is the final leaderboard for the LIV golfers after Round 4 of the 2024 Masters Tournament:
