Travel beyond the ordinary

Any airport

Lapland holidays as you always wished they could be

Your experience starts here.

When you travel to Lapland with Transun, you couldn’t be in more experienced hands. During our 40-year history, we’ve been designing and delivering exceptional holidays and day trips that have made memories to last for a lifetime.

A longstanding specialist in Lapland holidays, we’re excited to journey deep inside the Arctic Circle and share some captivating breaks along the celebrated Northern Lights Route. From snowmobiling across the frozen tundra to mushing huskies through snow-capped forests; from gazing into the night skies at the Northern Lights, to visiting Father Christmas in his homeland, we have a Lapland holiday that will captivate you as much as it will inspire you.

But not any old Lapland holiday will do: we only operate in ‘True Lapland’, an area of unspoiled beauty and intrigue, far from the touristy, mass-market resorts.

For us, travelling beyond the ordinary is a lifestyle. We’ve traversed unknown destinations, trialled the holidays that we offer and have stayed in the hotels that feature in our tours, creating a wealth of experiences, stories and knowledge that we use to craft the perfect winter getaway. Our team of experienced and passionate travel professionals are here to help on every step of the journey, and our team in resort are ready and waiting to welcome you on your next adventure.

We’re proud of the range of holidays that we offer and are pleased to have received many accolades over the years, and none more so than the British Travel Awards, which are voted for by those who have travelled with us.

We're bonded with ABTA and licensed with ATOL, so you can book your next adventure in complete confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lapland

You may want more information on visiting Lapland, so we’ve answered the most commonly asked questions for your peace of mind. If you want more information on Lapland then we suggest having a read of our Lapland travel guide . If you'd like to learn more about booking with us, check out our FAQs or contact our team of travel specialists.

1. Is Lapland a real country?

Lapland isn’t a country but a region of Northern Europe with over 170,000 inhabitants and 100,366 square kilometres of sparsely populated land. Rumoured to be the home of Santa Claus and his workshop, Lapland also has a reputation as a winter wonderland, with snow blanketing the land for a lot of the year.

2. Is Lapland in Sweden or Finland?

Lapland is a region within the Arctic Circle that is spread across both Sweden and Finland. Parts of Lapland also cover Norway and the Kola Peninsula of Russia.

3. When should I visit Lapland?

A popular time to visit Lapland is during the winter months between December and March, as this is when you can experience thrilling excursions like snowmobiling, cross country skiing and reindeer sleigh rides. As well as this, it’s peak northern lights viewing season so you’ll have a good chance of seeing them “dancing”.

In our blog, we’ve written about visiting Lapland in the winter and chasing the northern lights .

4. Which airport do you fly to for Lapland?

Depending on where you’re visiting from and whether you decide to fly to Swedish Lapland or Finnish Lapland , the airport you fly into could be Kiruna, Rovaniemi or Kemi. If you’re not sure which would be best for you, get in touch with our team of travel consultants as they’ll be able to advise which airport you’ll need to travel to.

5. Do they speak English in Finland?

Yes – English is widely spoken in Finland. English is taught in schools so most people will know basic phrases. When you travel on our tours, this isn’t something you’ll have to worry about as your guides will be English speaking.

6. Is Lapland in the North Pole?

Lapland is far north and located in the Arctic Circle, but it is not in the North Pole. However, Rovaniemi is home to Santa Claus Village , "the official North Pole residence" of Father Christmas.

7. How many days do you need in Lapland?

Depending on the attractions and activities you want to see and do, you can spend anywhere from a long weekend to a week in Lapland. However, for the sake of enjoyment, you won’t want to rush your visit. This is why all of our holidays are tried and tested by staff to ensure you get to experience the best of Lapland at a comfortable pace.

8. What country does Lapland belong to?

Lapland is a region that is spread across many countries, and so does not technically belong to any one of them. Finnish Lapland makes up for almost one third of Finland, and Swedish Lapland a quarter of Sweden, but the region also covers Norway and part of the Kola Peninsula in Russia.

9. Does Lapland have snow all year round?

It snows in Lapland for a lot of the year due to its subarctic climate and location within the Arctic Circle. This is why it’s a popular destination for winter trips and ski holidays. However, in the summer months, the snow and ice melts to reveal green forests and tranquil lakes and rivers.

For a detailed guide to Lapland’s climate, read our weather guide .

10. Can I choose the arrival date?

Yes, you can choose the best arrival dates to suit you, however we advise that you book as soon as possible as accommodation is limited and in-demand, especially in the ICEHOTEL and Arctic SnowHotel. All of our tours are available to book online, so secure your chosen dates as soon as you find them.

11. How much can I customise my tour?

All our packages are created to give you the best experience in Lapland, so whether you’re keen to explore the wilderness, add a meeting with Santa to your visit or stay in the ICEHOTEL, we have a tour to suit you.

However, if you want to do something extra, like spending additional days at either end of your journey or adding on another destination like Iceland or Norway , then all you have to do is ask.

Simply choose the Lapland package that best suits you and then contact our travel consultants about customising it. We’re happy to modify your itinerary where we can so you can tick off more attractions and areas on your travel wish list.

12. When should I book my flight tickets?

We’d advise that you look over flights for timings and dates, but hold off purchasing until you’ve booked your preferred tour. Once you’ve had a confirmation email from your personal travel consultant, you should then choose and pay for your flights. This is especially important as Lapland has the popular SnowCastle and ICEHOTEL to stay in and rooms can go quickly.

Our packages come with daily itineraries and all of your accommodation organised for you, so once you have all of the information you can make an informed choice on your flight times. If you have any questions, you can always contact your consultant for advice.

13. How should I dress for Lapland in winter?

We advise that you dress for the cold weather as you’ll be spending some of your tour in the outdoors. The snow-covered countryside can be uneven or slippery, so sensible footwear like walking shoes or boots is a must. Here are a few more of our suggestions:

  • Thick woollen socks, ideally several pairs
  • Thermal base layers
  • Warm woollen sweater
  • Jeans or other casual trousers
  • Thin wool or fleece gloves (ideal as a base layer under snowmobile gloves)
  • Warm gloves, scarf and cap
  • Camera with extra batteries
  • Small backpack/rucksack for day tours
  • Heat pads for hands and feet

For a more detailed list of what to bring, read our Lapland packing guide .

Santas Lapland Review

Visiting Santa’s Lapland is a trip of life time on many family bucket lists. Based inside the Artic Circle, in the far North of Finland, Lapland is a winter wonderland.

Powder white snow covers every surface as far as the eye can see. Pine trees define the landscape lining every town, highway and toboggan run!

Despite the Artic temperatures, everyone was outside, dressed in the appropriate attire having fun, making snowmen, riding hills on sledges, or scooting through the forest on a snow mobile!

Check out Santa’s Lapland Trips Here

Lapland is a fun place to visit with the family, even more so with little ones. They were so excited to see where all the Christmas magic happens, and of course, to meet the man himself, Santa Claus, as well as his energetic elves!

Every Christmas fairy tale starts in the North Pole, how magical for any family to visit? We spent three night there in early December, everything was booked through santaslapland.com. In this blog I cover a day by day insight into the trip, as well as some helpful hints and tips about clothing.

Santas Lapland review

Day 1 was all about arrival, getting set up and settling into our accommodation. I must admit we were a few hours behind our group having missed our flight from London  Gatwick to Ivalo. All that said, we were greeted at the airport by a helpful member of the team who took us straight to the hotel for our buffet dinner.

He loaded all of our bags into our room knowing we were a little bit hungry and tired from the trip. We tucked into lots of yummy winter salads, mashed potatoes, artisan breads and of course plenty of deserts. Along with a Lapin beer for the parents, it was the perfect welcome to the Holiday Club Resort!

santas lapland review

Ordinarily guests are assigned to a coach name (ours was called Tinsel) and taken to the clothing rental store. Everyone is sized up with full one piece artic suits, the best gloves I have ever seen, one pair of extra thick socks and snow boots.

They had a variety of sizes and the team were very helpful in making recommendations about layering underneath.  We decided to get sized up the following morning and it worked out perfectly. We were otherwise free on our first day to make use of the Holiday Club Resort facilities.

There are many amazing things to do onsite. We obviously hit the snow first and foremost making full use of the hundreds of toboggan sleighs they have for guests to use. Esme was doing snow angels and checking out ‘Santa’s post office’.

After our kids were ‘snowed out’, we made our way to our room in the Terenpesa building. It was only 100 metres from the main building, that was perfect for making the dash to breakfast and dinner without getting fully suited.

We had two twin rooms with single beds, pushed together, one parent and child stayed together. We booked in July and although that may seem early many of the other room options had already been taken. So in theory it is good to book well in advance to get the best room configuration for your family.

Although the beds weren’t the most comfortable I have ever stayed in, the rooms were cozy, warm and had the perfect views of the nearby forest. I just loved the glowing light in the window with that backdrop!

santas lapland review

Our second day was also a free to do any of the ‘extra’ activities on offer. They had a range of options from discovering the Northern Lights on a snow mobile, to cross country skiing. We decided there was still plenty to do and see in the local Saariselka area as well as the Holiday Club indoor activities.

We started our morning off with a buffet breakfast! Again there was lots of options and they catered for different diets such as gluten free and vegan with food clearly marked. After our bellies were full, we went to the local toboggan run to try out the fast and adventurous option!

santas lapland review

After having a few runs on the hill, the kids were ready for some indoor fun, so we tried out the ‘Angry Birds’ soft play area inside the Holiday Club Resort. It’s the perfect option to break up the time outside for little ones. The suits provided were more than adequate, instead it was our ‘rookie’ artic parenting when it came to layers we didn’t always get right. Nothing a hot chocolate or a warm blueberry juice couldn’t sort out!

After a nice play both indoors and outdoors, a warm lunch was in order. The  Holiday Club A La Carte restaurant did amazing pizzas for a really good price. Oh, and did I mention mulled wine Finnish style?

Yes it’s a thing and of course includes a shot of vodka, it was the perfect warming drink for the adults.  A post food nap was in order for the entire family so we snuggled up in our cozy room, watching movies whilst the little ones slept.

INDOOR ACTIVITES

After a rest we decided to check out the water park at the Holiday Club Resort. It’s all indoors, (obviously) with beautiful lighting to compliment the 20hr dark days. The kiddies pool was nice and warm for Quinn, and the water slide was lots of fun for Esme. Although it was cloudy most of the time during our visit the glass roof on top of the waterpark seemed like the ideal place to catch the Northern Lights.

After a nice swim we wanted to have an early dinner, especially as our last day was going to be the biggest of all, the searching Santa day! The Holiday Club Resort start the dinner buffet at 4pm, so it was perfect for those little ones that get hungry early, we were all tucked up in bed by 7pm.

Day 3 was a huge day and the main reason we visited Lapland – searching Santa day! Some guest did it on day 2, whilst others did it on day 3. I imagine it is arranged like this to reduce crowds and ensure queues are short at activity hotspots.

We were collected from the hotel at 915am and taken to the ‘Artic Resort’, about 25-minute drive from where we were staying. We were given all of the information by a rep on our arrival, she sat with us and talked us through everything.

santas lapland review

The drive to the Artic Resort is magical, seeing the beautiful countryside, so raw and untouched, it really hit home where we were in the world. On arrival one parent was asked to stay on board for a briefing whilst the kids went to play outside. They gave us a map with lots of tips for the day, best times to visit hotspot attractions, and so on.

THE MAGICAL SLEIGH RIDE

We went directly to the magical ride. A snow mobile pulled us on a sleigh through the forest, It was so beautiful and calm. That was until we came across some energetic elves and a log cabin!

The kids were taken completely by surprise when they realised it was in fact where Santa was hanging out! This was the pinnacle moment of the entire trip to Lapland with kids.

SANTAS LAPLAND REVIEW

Santa was sitting in his rocking chair and had the kids letters they had originally posted from London in his hand.

Esme was shocked he actually received the letter! He went through them with the kids, asking what they wanted for Christmas!

Esme has since been obsessing about the food Santa asked her to leave out on Christmas Eve. After a family photo, we jumped back on our sleigh ride to explore the rest of the activities.

SANTAS LAPLAND REVIEW

OTHER ACTIVITIES AT THE ARTIC RESORT

There is plenty to do across the resort. Esme and Quinn both loved trying out the ‘Skidoos’. They are essentially kid sized snow mobiles. The track goes around a tree and is attached so it is safe for little ones.  Even Quinn 18 months old had a go!

Besides from the skidoos, there was also ice fishing, ice hockey, toboggan runs, and tandem skiing. Not to mention the amazing elf show at the Igloo, we were so impressed with how engaging the show was for the kids, they absolutely loved it! The reindeer and husky sledge ride was very popular as well!

Santas Lapland review

At lunch time we went to our designated restaurant, they served either vegetable and rice, or spaghetti bolognese. Each table had artisan style sliced bread and a jug of good oul blueberry juice (they love that stuff in Lapland).

Next to the restaurant they served pancakes inside a wigwam style tent. They had an open fire to warm up, as well as warm drinks and ginger bread biscuits. It was the perfect way to warm up before hitting some more activities.

SANTAS LAPLAND REVIEW

We rounded our day off at the Reindeer Barn where we learned lots about these majestic animals. Being inside at this point was most welcomed, the kids were starting to feel the cold after being outside for the majority of the day. Besides from some tired / need a nap / feeling a bit cold tears, it was an all round magical day!

THE END OF A GREAT DAY

Once we were finished, we jumped on one of the rolling coach services back to the hotel. They came every 20 minutes or so, we were back in no time for some much needed rest. Santa’s Lapland put on a gala dinner for all their guests on the last night.  It was such a lovely evening, it literally felt like Christmas Day.

All of the decorations and fancy table lay out, of course they served all the typical Christmas Dinner food and had really yummy vegan alternatives. The night was completed with legendary Christmas songs, games for the kids and silly dancing. What more could you ask for to round off a trip to Santa’s Lapland?

WHAT CLOTHES TO BRING TO SANTAS LAPLAND / PACKING LIST

As I mentioned previously, Santa’s Lapland provide artic suits, gloves and boots for all guests. The thing to get right is the layering underneath. This is what I brought for each member of the family:

  • Three sets of thermals , (full body) one for each day. It’s important to wear this layer directly on the skin.
  • Six sets of leggings and three pairs of loose fitting jogging pants.
  • Six sets of normal socks and three pairs of thermal socks .
  • One neck warmer each . When doing activities, it was quite handy to have a scarf that wasn’t flying everywhere. Likewise, we could pull it up to cover our face, if we were feeling the cold.
  • A waterproof hat
  • Six long sleeve warm shirts.
  • Three thick but roomy jumpers.
  • Light weight snow boots for the kids. These were handy when we were just going to dinner or breakfast.
  • Disposable pocket warmers . I cannot stress how amazing these little packs were! They saved the day when the kids just couldn’t seem to warm up. I was amazed at how much heat they pump out. We had them in their socks, scarf and gloves, it made such a difference.

Whilst we were in Lapland, the temperature was unusually tropical at -5 to -10 degrees Celsius. One of our followers told us it was -45 last year when she visited, so having LOTS of layers is so important. If you find you are struggling to pack bulky clothing, vacuum bags are an amazing way to condense everything.

PREPARING FOR SANTAS LAPALAND

As I mentioned previously our trip was a package holiday provided by santaslapland.com. They sent out a helpful pack full of information a few weeks in advance. It contained everything we needed to know about the trip, from clothing to photography equipment and extra excursions to arrival information.

The kids loved the headed notepaper to write their Santa letter and the cute Santa themed luggage tags. If you decide you want to do extra excursions, it’s worth booking them in advance.

From what I can see online, the best time to book is in December the year before you intend to travel. This should (according to trusted Trip Advisor) insure the best price and options in terms of accommodation and dates. Check out availability and prices here.

only scoring two stars because the…

only scoring two stars because the children enjoyed meeting Santa, the children enjoyed most of the trip. However, given that they have no idea how much it actually cost that only leaves the grownups to actually reflect the reality of the trip. We were sold a dream that didn't really reflect reality. Hotel was not the 4 star advertised- are like 2 star at a push. Food would probably scrape a 2 star - it was awful

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience, LJR. While we're delighted to hear that your children enjoyed their trip, particularly the highlight of meeting Santa in Lapland, we're sorry that as 'grown-ups' you were left feeling a little disappointed. We do try to accurately represent the hotels that we feature, giving a fair idea of their standards of accommodation and catering, so that our guests have a good idea of what to expect. We regret that you've been left feeling that this wasn't achieved on this occasion. Kind regards, Santa's Lapland Guest Relations

Reindeer injured child - Dealt with appallingly by Lapland

After spending >£6.5k for 2 nights away, on what was due to be the most magical Christmas ever... We were let down massively by Santa's Lapland. Their response to the incident didn't help either! The night of arrival consisted of us attending our meal within the resort buffet; their wasn't much variety and the food was mediocre. Our kids had soggy nuggets and chips! We then had an early night ahead of our early get up on 23rd December, for our Lapland day experience... We travelled to the Lapland experience day and did a few of the activities, which were great. We then visited Santa, which the kids loved, and then went on a reindeer sleigh ride! THIS IS WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG!!! We questioned why the reindeer, that was pulling the sleigh behind us, was so close to our sleigh, standing next to us instead of behind us, and we were told that it was no problem as they were harmless and the smallest should sit closest to the reindeer. So my 9 year old got in on the side of the reindeer, with me on the other side, and away we went. The reindeer looked in discomfort and within a couple of minutes of the sleigh ride it attempted to break out of its harness and in doing so managed to jump it's front legs into our sleigh and caught my 9 year old son in the face with it's hoof (These reindeers up close are very large animals, especially when on top of you in a sleigh.. and this isn't even through a 9 year olds eyes)! My son was hysterical and the sleigh ride was stopped, but only so they could put the reindeer back in its harness! My son and I got out of the sleigh and we were screamed at to get back in as it was 'unsafe' not to be in there! We were assured that the harness was re-applied and it was now safe in the sleigh. Although my son was shaken up and reluctant to do so, we felt we had no choice and got back in, but this time I sat next to the reindeer (to the sleigh ride workers dismay) and my son on the other side of me! Within a minute of restarting the exact same happened, but luckily I took the brunt of the hit this time! Other in sleighs behind us were also shouting for the sleigh to stop having witness what was happening. The sleigh ride was once again stopped with the reindeer being reapplied again to it's harness and finally a bit of safety with a worker walking along side it for the remaining minute of the ride! Once we got off the sleigh, word had spread as to what had happened, and a Lapland representative got the medic to check over my son and closed the sleigh ride down for the day. My son had a cut under his eye and was given a bag of ice. We were told they'd notified our resort who would be in touch with us to make it up to us! We spoke with a nice guy called Mich who said he couldn't do anything but Lapland UK would be in touch when we got home to discuss compensation - We really didn't want to discuss it any further whilst away anyway as it had already ruined our only full day at Lapland. We travelled home the next day and I was contacted a few days later - I was told that they had taken it upon themselves to log a complaint in my name and would be in touch! They did contact me and offered me £250 for my troubles... I kept calm and told them that I'd paid £6500 for a magical day away and I didn't get one, so I don't want the money and would have expected from a company of Lapland's size to have at least given us another chance of a magical time away! The spoke with management and upped their offer to £350! The whole experience with Santa's Lapland has made me wish we never booked with them... Someone decided that, due to LapLand UK clearly not conducting a proper risk review and as a result causing injury to a 9 year old child, which in turn ruined a very expensive 2 night (one full day) trip away, that I offering me £350 would justify what had happened... So turns out if I accept the offer that it only cost me £6,150 for a nightmare experience now! The third party vendor who run the reindeer rides, did offer us a snowmobiling experience (this was nothing to do with Lapland), which Mich (Resort Manager) told me I should accept and it would have no impact on what LapLand UK offered me... This unfortunately was a lie, as Lapland told me that their offer of £350 compensation was 'to match' what the vendor offered me! BOOK WITH ANOTHER COMPANY - SANTA'S LAPLAND CLEARLY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY AND NOT THE EXPERIENCE YOU GET!

Simply the best experience from the moment we checked in the fun began. Everything so well organised and magical. Would not recommend for young children but the events all have warming rooms to get little ones warm again. Staff very knowledgeable. Husky ride was our favourite part, sledding and walks from hotel. Rooms are basic but completely functional. Beds were comfortable even sofabed. It truly was the trip of a lifetime. We had high expectations and were not disappointed!!

Thanks for your 5* review. It's great to see that you all had the best experience. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations Santas Lapland

The santas magic package was so well…

The santas magic package was so well thought out and put together. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The trips are organised and run well with plenty of time and they try to ensure your not waiting around. The snow outfits provided work really well. Our temps got to about -10 and normal clothes underneath worked well. Food was delicious and options for kids too. Airport was busy but managed well by the staff and elves can be found everywhere to add to the excitement.

What can I say but wow

What can I say but wow. This holiday we have just come from was just out of this world, everything about our holiday was amazing and magical. We went on the 19th dec to the 22nd, we did husky rides reindeer rides, met the most beautiful Santa, cheeky elf’s went in an igloo and so much more. Most of our food was all included and was absolutely delicious Highly recommended and looking forward to going back.

Amazing day at Santa land, dreadful resort

Amazing day at Santa land. Dreadful accommodation, dreadful food spoiled the holiday overall. Resort hotel shabby, curtains didn’t fit windows, dreadful lukewarm buffet food, expensive drinks, inexperienced resort staff. For 2,500 per head for 3 days this is not worth the time nor money. BUT the day finding Santa was fabulous although we definitely won’t return for lumpy beds and pillows, draughty rooms and food that was appalling.

Date of experience : 16 December 2023

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience, Mrs Clarke. Whilst it's great to hear that the 'main event' of searching for Santa was an amazing day, it's disappointing that you had some issues with your accommodation. We do hope that you brought these to the attention of our resort management team and/or the accommodation manager so that these could be addressed. Kind regards, Santa's Lapland Guest Relations

This was our fourth and final time…

This was our fourth and final time visiting Santa's Lapland. After saying it was a once in a lifetime trip, it turned into somewhere we just loved so much that we had to come back again. Our children talk about it all year round, recalling such amazing memories. The activity day with Santa is very magical and well run. The accommodation is basic, but we barely spent any time in there and yes the food is limited and the queues are quite long, but for us this didn't spoil the magic of lapland and Saariselka is possibly the most beautiful place in the world. So these small minor things to us are far outweighed by the beautiful settings. We spent so much time tobogganing , walking in the beautiful forest and we even tried snowboarding which we loved. Our three are now possibly too old to return again but the magic of finland will stay with us forever.

Thanks for your great review. I'm glad to see that these trips have played such an important part of your families time together. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations, Santas Lapland

Enjoyed our break away with Santa's magic

Enjoyed our break away with Santa's Lapland (18th -21st December) stayed at the Holiday Club Resort. Clean and tidy. Loved the pool. Restaurant is nice. Only downside to the hotel was the variety of food for the children. Chicken nuggets and chips was a little too repetitive - same on the festive evening meal. Trips were well organised in advance. Both us and the kids enjoyed the experiences. Loved the husky rides and reindeer ride.

Thanks, Sarah for your great review. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations Santas Lapland

Magical and unforgettable experience

We were blown away by an absolutely magical experience from start to finish. We are a family of 3and the activities and excursions were age appropriate for all children, as adults we loved it aswell. We stayed at The Artic Star Hotel and the staff were the best in every way, very very friendly and informative, the rooms were comfortable and we had a amazing view of the village. We didn't get to see the Northern Lights but we didn't care as the experience was magical in itself. Our little one is already asking when we're going back so time to start saving again as it is worth every penny. Thankyou Santa's Lapland for an magical and unforgettable holiday, we will be back. Kiitos

Kiitos for your review of your magical experience with us in Lapland, Gemma. It's great to hear that your little one is already keen to go back, and we hope that your memories of your trip will last a lifetime. Best wishes, Santa's Lapland Guest Relations

Every part of the Santa's Magic trip…

Every part of the Santa's Magic trip was excellent. From arrival at the airport to returning home, the holiday was well organised and every effort was made to make it special. I was concerned that the adults in our party may not have enough to do, but this was not the case. We did not book any additional activities and we were busy all the time - walking in the magical landscape and tobogganing when we were not at the Arctic Circle Centre. The reindeer sleigh ride and husky sled ride was fabulous. There were lots of very happy staff on hand to help and no where was too busy. Although this was an expensive trip, it was a quality experience. There were 7 of us in our party aged 65 to 3 and everyone came away with stories to tell. Fabulous.

Thanks, Joan, for such a lovely review. I'm delighted that you and your family have created such wonderful memories. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations, Santas Lapland

Magical and Wonderful Trip

We had the most amazing and magical time on the Santas Magic package in Saariselka. It was all so well organised from our plane trip and transfers, to the collection of our snow suits/gear, hotel and activity day. All the staff were just brilliant, helpful, fun and organised and always on hand. Hotel we stayed at was great (Gielas and ate at the Tunturi Hotel) and we enjoyed all the food. Saariselka is a stunning little resort and wish we had booked the 3 night stay to explore it more (next time!). The activity day went really well and was magical for our daughter and us!! Husky ride was just the best and of course seeing Santa and the snow! Thank you for a wonderful trip!

Thanks, for such a great review, Sylvine. We look forward to seeing you again for the next time! Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Santas Lapland

Wow just Wow!

Wow just Wow! I’ve wanted to visit Santa in Lapland since I was 6 years & now at 66 years old it took me another 60 years to fulfill my dream! Santa’s Lapland & Star Arctic Hotel were absolutely perfect … hotel location at the top of a Ski slope in a log cabin with a glass roof was the sort of place you visualise in your mind when you think of Lapland but never think you will actually get to stay there! Santa’s Lapland made you feel your family were special & not on a conveyor belt I don’t know how they do it , but they do it so excellently. A very special holiday & feel privileged to have seen my Grandchildren experience the ‘Magic’… I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart because I too felt the ‘Magic’ & was 6 years old once more!

Ah, Jane, thanks so much for your great review. I'm so happy to see that you all had the magical experience, and also that you fulfilled a dream. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations, Santas Lapland

I'm so glad to hear that. Thanks for your kind words, Heidi. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations, Santas Lapland

The most amazing experience ever

The most amazing experience of our lifes. Pure magic throughout was incredible and the joy and happiness on our children's faces was priceless plus they got to meet SANTA which was extra special. The staff were fantastic throughout and so welcoming and a real help with any questions we had. The activities are out of this world and we made so many memories that we will cherish forever. And to top the holiday off we got to see the northern lights in all there glory. And truly magical adventure one we will never forget. Thank you

Thank you so much for suck lovely feedback Damon. It's lovely for us to hear that your holiday to Lapland was truly an amazing experience. Great to hear that our staff in resort were fantastic and that you made so many magical memories. You were so lucky to get to see the Northern Lights too! Brilliant! Best Wishes and a Merry Christmas Guest Relations Santas Lapland

Investing in memories

We had the most amazing experience from start to finish. The staff are happy and enthusiastic and go above and beyond to ensure you’re totally topped up with magic! The surroundings are just amazing we were so lucky to see the aurora borealis on two consecutive nights during our stay which was obviously the cherry on an already super indulgent cake! Talking of cake the food was great! And even the fussiest of eaters (my 8 year old) are able to find something they like at each meal. I wish we could have stayed longer! I wish we could afford to go back! The memories we now have are the best and most magical that will last our lifetimes.

Thanks, Suzy, for such a great review. How wonderful you were able to see the Northern Lights two nights in a row. Warm Regards, Ashleigh, Guest Relations Santas Lapland

Simply magical!

Simply magical! Without doubt one of the best family holidays we have been on. From the facilities to the activities and staff, it was outstanding. The Finnish people are beautiful just like their country; the landscape was absolutely stunning. We knew we would enjoy ourselves but was not prepared by just how much. Our three boys are begging to back. The organisation of everything was just perfect.

Thanks Karl for this great review. We are so pleased to hear that your holiday to Lapland was magical Especially for your three boys. We would definitely love to see you in Lapland again. Best Regards and a Merry Christmas to you all Guest Relations Santa's Lapland

A Truly Magical Experience

This was a truly magical holiday, from check in to arrival home it was just amazing. There are too many highlights to list but the Ice Bar, the Husky Rides & the Elves were out of this world. The only slight lack of magic was that the food was a bit mediocre (Although tasty and plentiful) and that the actual Santa visit could have been longer and a bit more special, been as this was a visit to Santa's Lapland! Overall, an unbelievably magical trip that will leave memories that will last a lifetime.

Date of experience : 11 December 2023

Thanks, Mark, for such a great review. We're delighted that you and your family have experienced the magic and that these are memories that you'll treasure always. Best wishes and Merry Christmas to you all. Guest Relations Santa's Lapland

Visiting Santa’s Village in Lapland: Everything You Need to Know – Part 2

Santa Claus Finland

Opened in 1965, Santa Claus Village in Finland has continued to attract thousands of visitors every year. The stunning landscapes, cosy wooden lodges and, of course, the big man himself are just some of the reasons tourists flock to the amazing Arctic Circle year-round.

While the Village is open for visitors all year, there’s no time more magical than the Christmas season to spend time with the one and only Santa Claus. But organising a trip to this unique and unforgettable destination can be challenging at the best of times, not least during Christmas.

Luckily, we’ve done all the hard work, so you don’t have to. We’ve put together this handy guide to visiting Santa’s Village in Lapland. Keep reading as we discuss the best ways to spend your unforgettable holiday in Finland. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out  part one of our series , all about planning the trip of a lifetime.

Meet the locals

Needless to say, your children’s faces will truly light up when they meet Santa Claus. But he isn’t the only famous local in Lapland. The reindeer, postal elves and his iconic helpers are all worth a visit, too.

Since 1985, when Santa’s Official Post Office opened its doors, he has received a whopping 15 million letters from 198 difference countries. The postal elves are happy to help year-round, sending uniquely stamped postcards to friends and loved ones around the world.

As for Rudolph and his band of reindeer, they play a special role in Santa’s life, making an impression on everyone they meet. The friendly, gentle creatures are much more than a unique mode of transport – although a  trip across the Arctic by reindeer is not to be missed!

Crossing the Arctic Circle

The mysterious Arctic Circle brings magical phenomena to the area all year. The circle of latitude that runs 66°33’45.9” north of the Equator, marks the southernmost latitude where the sun can continuously stay below or above the horizon for an entire day. The Midnight Sun in the summer and the Polar Night in the winter mark the moment the sun stays above or below the horizon for a whole 24 hours.

The extraordinary Arctic Circle runs through Santa Claus Village, offering visitors the chance to cross into the circle and gain a certificate for their feat. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to potentially experience an entire day of darkness or sunshine.

Spot the Northern Lights

Santa’s Lapland is home to many amazing, spectacular sights, Santa Claus Village being just one. While you’re there you may even get the chance to tick another experience off your bucket list – seeing the breath-taking Northern Lights. The phenomenon, also known as Aurora Borealis, is most visible between November and March, making Christmas the ideal time to look out.

Stay with loved ones in a dream-like  glass igloo and gaze up at the night sky, with your fingers crossed for the Northern Lights dancing across the darkness. Or, to increase your chances of spotting the spectacle, opt for a  7-day Lapland Northern Lights tour, taking you across the country to the most likely-to-spot areas.

Hang with the huskies

A trip to Finland, and Santa Claus Village, wouldn’t be complete without meeting some of the country’s most-loved animals. Spend your day with the stunning huskies and learn some of the fascinating facts about the beautiful creatures. You can even travel on a  husky-sledge across the frosty landscapes of Lapland. Or, if you’d prefer, you can simply hang out with the animals and learn all about their diet, exercise routine and how to  properly care for a husky .

The trip of a lifetime

Visiting Santa Claus Village is an unforgettable, once in a lifetime trip for the whole family. With so much to see, do and experience, planning the amazing holiday can be daunting. That’s where  Scandi Travel comes in. Our unforgettable tours are tailored to your requirements, covering everything from meeting Santa himself to travelling with huskies.

Leave all the hard work to us. Simply  get in touch with our travel experts today, let us know which tour you’d love to take and we can handle the rest.
