The excitement continues to build for the historic Derby 150, and Kentucky Derby Museum invites horse racing fans, Derby enthusiasts, tourists, Louisvillians, and everyone in between to join in the celebration with a lineup of unforgettable experiences.

How do I purchase tickets for a day at the races?

The easiest ways to purchase tickets it purchases general admission or reserved box tickets through Ticketmaster . However, there are multiple ways to purchase ticket for groups as well as memberships.

Can I get a refund on my tickets?

Tickets are non-refundable and all tickets are accessed digitally. Due to the sheer size of the event, we do not have the ability to re-issue lost or forgotten tickets. We also do not have a 'will-call' booth. Please note the only authorized place to buy & resell Kentucky Derby and Oaks tickets is the Kentucky Derby Ticket Exchange .

How do I access my tickets?

Tickets can be accessed through the Churchill Downs app and connecting your Ticketmaster account to the app. You MUST have your tickets in order to get through the gates.

I have a large group. Are you able to accommodate us for an outing at the track?

For groups of 12+, we encourage you to give our team a call at 502-636-4450 to get in touch with a representative who can help get you set up for an outing at the track. Or fill out our Group Request form and a representative will reach out to you.

Can I bring my children to the track?

Yes, children are welcome at Churchill Downs! Race days are great times to bring children to the track to get up and close to the thrills of Thoroughbred racing. There are also special event days such as Family Adventure Day with activities for your children to participate in.

As Churchill Downs prepares for the fastest two minutes in sports, tickets are selling quickly. Still, it is possible to snag a ticket this year — if you're willing to splurge. Here's some essential information about the 149th Run for the Roses:

How to get Kentucky Derby tickets

Your best bet to find Kentucky Derby tickets is at  kentuckyderby.com/tickets . On this website, you can find tickets for various sections as well as different experiences.

Those interested in attending Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks can also visit Derby Experiences  to see a variety of packages combining Derby and Oaks seats with access to exclusive lounges, hotel and transportation accommodations and more. As of late January, package prices range from $1,261 to $7,369 per person.

Where can I sit at Churchill Downs during the Kentucky Derby?

If you do end up lucky enough to snag some tickets this year, here's a run-down on the types of seating:

Grandstand seats:  The backless bleacher-style seating on the first and second levels of Churchill Downs comes with a view of the finishing stretch. Tickets are available in this section on the Derby's resale website starting at a little over $600 in late January.

There are also stadium-style grandstand seats on the second floor of the facility, overlooking the turf and dirt tracks. A resale ticket for this section was starting around $920.

Box seats:  Boxes contain six seats each and are located on the first and third levels. Higher up seats are generally more costly, with some resale tickets priced at more than $3,000 in late January.

Infield reserved seats:  Seating for the infield is in a set of temporary structures that expand the perimeter of reserved seating opportunities. This uncovered bleacher seating includes a view of the final stretch of the Kentucky Derby race with access to betting windows, restrooms, the front side of the track and Paddock areas. Includes food, nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages.

Infield bleacher resale tickets start in the mid-$700s, as of late January.

All tickets with a reserved seat are all-inclusive, whether you choose box or bleacher. They include food and beverages to cut down on lines and limit cash exchanges. General admission infield tickets are not all-inclusive.

Are there any new seating options for the 2023 Kentucky Derby?

The First Turn Reserved Seating (replacing the Vineyard Vines Club and Section 110) will make its Kentucky Derby debut in 2023. These covered, grandstand-style seats, $1,261 each, feature padded seating, views of the Kentucky Derby walkover and access to dedicated food, drink and restroom amenities.

Most resale tickets for this new seating section were around $1,400, as of late January.

What is the 'all-inclusive' ticket for the 2023 Kentucky Derby?

All reserved seats at the Kentucky Derby and Kentuck Oaks include all-inclusive food, nonalcoholic beverages and alcoholic beverages. This change, implemented in 2021, is intended to reduce the amount of time spent in line, eliminating the need for cash transactions for food and beverages and providing the opportunity to try a greater variety of food.

How much are reserved infield seats for the 2023 Kentucky Derby?

There aren't many reserved infield seats left for the 2023 Kentucky Derby, so if you want one, you better act quickly. Tickets for the section range from the mid $700s to $1,200 each, according to the Derby's resale website as of late January. 

This uncovered seating includes views of the final stretch of the Kentucky Derby race with access to betting windows and restrooms. Includes food, nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages.

This location allows access to the Paddock and frontside of the track.

How can I buy general admission infield tickets for the 2023 Kentucky Derby?

To buy general admission infield tickets for the 2023 Kentucky Derby, go to  kentuckyderby.com/tickets  and click on the "Seating Experiences" tab. From there, click on the "General Admission" section.

These tickets include admission to the infield but no seating nor access to the Paddock area or front-side seating areas. It also is not inclusive of food and drinks.

As of late January, general admission tickets for the infield are still available at face value. If you buy your tickets by April 17, general admission tickets start at $57 and $77 for a single-day entry to Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby, respectively.

Prices increase as the event gets closer. On the day of the races, the general admission cost jumps to $67 and $87 for Oaks and Derby, respectively.

Want two days of fun? Booking a two-day ticket to Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby won't help your overall bottom line, but it does decrease the cost per day. The bundle ticket is $110 through February, $120 from March through April 17 and $135 until the day before the Kentucky Oaks.

Will additional tickets for the 2023 Kentucky Derby be sold?

Notification of the availability of additional tickets to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks will be made via email and social media. Fans are encouraged to subscribe to the Kentucky Derby’s email distribution list online at  kentuckyderby.com/tickets/newsletter-signup  and follow @KentuckyDerby on social media to stay updated if or when there are changes to ticket availability.

What other days can I see racing at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby Week?

Churchill Downs ticket options are available for other Kentucky Derby Week events including Opening Night on April 29; Dawn at the Downs on April 27-May 3, Champions Day presented by TwinSpires on May 3 and Thurby presented by Old Forester on May 4.

The Run for the Roses will take place on May 4, 2024 as the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby will celebrate the long history of the famed horse race.

One of the most anticipated races in sports, the Kentucky Derby field has started to fill out, with betting odds already rolling in for horses. If you’re looking to go to Churchill Downs for the race, tickets can be purchased through major third-party sites like VividSeats , StubHub , SeatGeek , TicketCity and Ticketmaster .

The drawing for the post-position draw will occur on Saturday, April 27, one week before the race.

If you can’t get to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby , aka the biggest horse race of the year, don’t worry, because NBC will be the next best place to be on May 4. Honestly, if you’ve got the right fascinator, enough mint juleps, and you belt out “My Old Kentucky Home” on repeat, you might not even notice you’re not at the horse track itself.

Either way, expect good times, incredible people watching, and great racing for the 150th running of the roses. Here’s everything you need to know about the Kentucky Derby!

Why Is the Kentucky Derby So Important?

They don’t call it the “Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” for nothing, folks, and it’s been that way for 150 years now. The annual “Run for the Roses,” which takes place every first Saturday in May, brings together the most impressive 3-year-old thoroughbreds, all striving to be the quickest horse around the 1+1⁄4 mile (10 furlongs) track, and drape that iconic garland of roses around its neck. 

The first leg of the venerable Triple Crown (along with the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes), the Kentucky Derby is the most watched and attended race around, and has come to symbolize the very highest echelon of horse racing (and partying). Along with its sibling race, the Kentucky Oaks (streaming May 3 from 1-6 p.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock ), they are the oldest continuously held major sporting events in America.

Last year, Mage, ridden by jockey Javier Castellano, won the Derby with a time of 2:01.57.

How Much Money Does the Winner of the 2024 Kentucky Derby Earn?

In January, Churchill Downs, the racetrack that has housed the Kentucky Derby since the beginning, announced a $2 million increase in the purse money from 2023, making this year's $5 million purse the highest ever. The winner will receive the lion’s share of that (horse’s share?) with $3.1 million, while the runner-up wins $1 million, third place earns $500,000, fourth gets $250,000, and fifth trots home with $150,000.

“These record purse increases are a symbol of the health of horse racing in Kentucky,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of Churchill Downs Inc. at the time the purse was announced ( via NBC Sports ).

Who’s Racing in the 2024 Kentucky Derby? 

Of course, gambling on the ponies is all part of the fun during the Kentucky Derby, so who’s the odds-on favorite to win all that sweet purse money? 

While we won’t know who’s actually favored until the post draw a week before the race (which is earlier than previous post draws ), if you’ve been paying attention to horse racing lately, you can make some assumptions based on which horses have earned points in the Road to the Derby races .

Who won the Kentucky Derby 2023?

Mage was last year's Kentucky Derby winner.

Mage and jockey  Javier Castellano  rallied from the back of the pack, finishing the 1-and-1/4-miles in 2:01.57. The horses were six-wide off the final turn when Mage − at 15-1 odds − pushed past  Two Phil’s  to win by a length down the stretch.

Jody demling revealed his kentucky derby 2024 picks for the run for the roses on saturday, may 4 at churchill downs.

With the 2024 Kentucky Derby approaching on Saturday, May 4, bettors are already looking for 2024 Kentucky Derby longshots to back. One of the more intriguing 2024 Kentucky Derby horses is Just Steel. Trained by 88-year-old Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, Just Steel is the most experienced horse in the 2024 Kentucky Derby field with 11 career starts. He has a pair of wins and has hit the board in six other races, including three runner-up finishes in his last four races. At 25-1 in the latest 2024 Kentucky Derby odds, should you back Just Steel in your Kentucky Derby futures bets, or are there better values found in the favorites such as Fierceness (3-1), Sierra Leone (7-2) or Catching Freedom (8-1)?

He's also called 10 of the last 19 Preakness winners, including nailing his Preakness winner, exacta and superfecta picks in 2023, keenly understanding when the Kentucky Derby winner was poised for victory or a massive upset. Anyone who has followed him is up huge.

One of Demling's surprising 2024 Kentucky Derby picks: He is fading Fierceness, even though he's the top favorite and just won the Florida Derby. Fierceness won the third race of his career at the end of March, cruising to a dominant win in the Florida Derby. It was the second Grade 1 victory for him, as he also won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last November.

However, consistency has been an issue for the Todd Pletcher-trained horse, as he finished seventh in the Champagne Stakes last October and third in the Holy Bull in February. Pletcher has struggled in recent years at Churchill Downs, with 15 of his last 16 Derby starters failing to hit the board. Another stunner: Demling is high on Resilience, even though he's a 35-1 longshot. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. A 3-year old colt trained by Bill Mott, Resilience didn't win any races during his 2-year-old season, but he has surged thus far in 2024.

He started the year by winning a maiden special weight race on New Year's Day. He followed that up with a fourth-place finish at the Risen Star in February and a win at the Wood Memorial on April 6 that punched his ticket into the 2024 Kentucky Derby lineup.
