Mexico Tours & Trips

Travellers laughing and smiling leaning on a yellow wall in the the yellow city in Izamal, Mexico

Peel back the lucha libre mask and you’ll find a patchwork of cultures and customs mixed into one flavor-filled country.

The gregarious locals are just as likely to pull you up for a dance at one of Mexico City ’s hip-shaking salsa clubs as they are to show you the way to one of the country’s many ancient ruins , all with a casual ‘hola’ and an inviting smile. While our tours get you up close with locals, they also show you the best sights from on and off the gringo trail. You can party until dawn in Playa del Carmen , eat your way into a food coma in colorful Oaxaca , or, best of all, kick back with a horchata in the lazy seaside port of Merida .

Best time to visit mexico.

Mexico is generally most pleasant between September and June in the cool, dry season. July and August can be very hot and humid, but perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and lazing on the beach. These are, however, the busiest months for travel as this is the time of the North American school holidays. Highland areas such as Chiapas and Oaxaca tend to be cooler year-round, with cold nights.

Culture and customs

Mexico lays claim to one of the richest and most historic cultures in the world. Characterized by strong regional identity, locals are affiliated directly to the region they hail from with each region having its own unique customs, cuisine and even language dialect. Despite this, national identity is still strong with all Mexicans sharing common bonds over their love of sport, dance, food and religion. With most of the country belonging to the Roman Catholic religion, religious festivals and celebrations are plentiful in Mexico. Parades, street fairs and parties held in honor of local saints are commonplace, and offer travelers the chance to witness the customs and rituals of this vibrant culture.

Eating and drinking

One of Mexico's biggest draws is its food and drink. From Oaxaca's indigenous staples to the sizzling street food of Mexico City, there's almost too much choice for the hungry traveler. By the end of your Mexico tour, you'll know your tacos from your tamales, your enchiladas from your elote and your tequila from your mezcal.

Eat your way through this vibrant country on our  9 day Mexico Real Food Adventure.

Geography and environment

Mexico shares land borders with the  United States ,  Belize  and  Guatemala , and has an extensive coastline that runs along the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

Featuring a wide variety of natural environments, Mexico is home to tracts of tropical rainforests, vast areas of low-lying plains and deserts, volcanic mountains and temperate beaches and lagoons.

Mexico's capital and major cities are typically built up, busy and lively – with a vast network of public transport, highways and roads. Rural areas, on the other hand, are distinctly less developed, with small-scale housing, unsealed roads and rustic farms.

History and government

Early history.

People have been living in Mexico for more than 13,000 years. Mesoamericans occupied the area early on, with archaeological evidence pointing towards Mesoamericans leading a hunter-gatherer existence. Maize farming is thought to have become commonplace by 1500 BC, which led to the farming of other commodities as well. A variety of cultures contributed to the early history of Mexico, with the Olmec, Toltec, Maya, Teotihuacan and Aztecs all bringing unique cultural, religious and artistic styles to the region, with the Mayan and Aztec Empires having the greatest (and most enduring) impact on the region.

Mayan society can be traced back to 300 BC, while the Aztecs enjoyed prosperity from 1325 to around 1521 AD. Many ancient ruins and constructions from these periods are still standing all throughout Mexico and can be visited and viewed today. By the 16th century, the Spanish had arrived in Mexico and what followed was a period of colonialism that lasted nearly 300 years.

During this time, Mexico was seen as a part of ‘New Spain’ along with Cuba and Puerto Rico. This was not a particularly good time for Mexicans who (under colonial law) were generally not allowed to travel outside of Mexico and were denied access to education. Mexico achieved independence from the Spaniards after the War of Independence (1810-1821) but peace was short-lived as two decades later the Mexican-American War brought more confrontation and armed conflict to parts of Mexico.

Recent history

Mexico’s Revolution of 1910 - 1921 was a period of instability, marked by political turmoil and bloodshed. More recently, Mexico has enjoyed an economic resurgence after decades of economic hardship, which lasted from the 1970s to the mid-1990s. The earthquake of 1985 didn’t help matters, with wide-scale damage and loss of life compounding the economic problems and political uncertainty of Mexico. Currently, Mexico is benefiting from a period of improved economic conditions, although the gap between the wages earned by Mexicans and their northern neighbors continues to widen. Mexico is now operating in a free market economy and the growth of tourism, agriculture and industry has ensured an improved economy for the country, although financial inequality still exists within.

Memorable moments of Mexico

1. ramble among the ruins.

A visit to the famed ruins of Chichen Itza reveals history, ancient architecture, and wildlife in equal measure. Walk through the complex and hear jungle animal calls as colorful birds fly among the canopy. This is a stirring experience to treasure.

2. Bittersweet bites

The cult of chocolate is well and truly alive in Oaxaca! The flavors here are simply phenomenal and unlike mass-produced chocolate in the Western world. Spiced with chili, cinnamon and cloves, you won’t soon forget the taste of Oaxacan chocolate.

3. Sunshine and snorkeling

Mexico’s Caribbean coastline showcases expanses of clear blue water, white sand beaches, vibrant reefs and plenty of sunshine. Snorkeling over colorful fish and sun-lit coral is simply unforgettable.

4. Mountain majesty

The cooler climate and fresh mountain air of San Cristobal de las Casas provides some respite from the city heat. Chilling out in this relaxed and visually stunning area is a magical Mexican moment.

5. Bus buddies

Catching a local bus in Mexico is a never-ending source of amusement. Overcome the language barrier and make friends with local commuters to pass the time.

6. Tequila!

No visit to Mexico is complete without downing a little bit of the national drink. While you may not remember every detail the morning after, good times and memorable holiday snapshots are guaranteed when tequila is involved.

7. Volcanic splendor

Mexico’s volcanic landscapes are photo-worthy and awe-inspiring. Hiking past rocky escarpments and surreal scenery is a rewarding travel experience to remember.

8. Village people

Sharing smiles and laughs with locals while strolling through the rural villages of Mexico is a simple, yet memorable way to see the real heart of Mexico - its people.

9. Mariachi melodies

Sway to the unique sounds of Mexico’s mariachi music in the streets and cafes of Mexico. The rhythms and beats will live in your heart for years to come.

10. To market, to market

Witness Latin America’s time-honored commercial traditions unfold in Mexico’s well-patronized markets. Hear the banter of stallholders, smell the fragrant scent of sizzling meat and admire the colorful array of wares on offer.

Top places to visit in Mexico

This coastal town is well-known for its incredible cliff-top Mayan temple ruins with expansive ocean views. But outside of architectural wonders, Tulum also has quite a few natural wonders. Spend some time exploring Tulum's numerous cenotes and caves for unforgettable snorkeling and diving.

Explore Tulum on our 8 day Yucatan Peninsula Adventure or on our 8 day Premium Mexico Yucatan Highlights tour.

Numerous significant architectural sites, baroque churches and impressive cultural displays may have landed Oaxaca the badge of Unesco World Heritage Site, but in recent years, the city has gained notoriety as a culinary destination. Make sure to try regional specialties like tlayudas, mole and mezcal.

Get a taste of Oaxaca on our 9 day Mexico Real Food Adventure.

3. San Cristobal

Set in a valley surrounded by pine forests, San Cristóbal de las Casas has a bright yellow cathedral, pastel houses and buildings draped in deep pink bougainvillea, making it one of Mexico's most colorful cities. Stop by the local markets to browse locally-made handicrafts with colors that rival those of the city itself.

Explore this colorful city on our 15 day Best of Mexico tour.

Travelers will be delighted with the range of good quality shopping available in Mexico. As usual, the markets offer some of the most cost-effective and fun ways to shop, although Mexico’s cities also showcase some excellent boutiques and galleries for more costly purchases.

It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country. The United States and Canada generally have strict customs laws.

Things to buy in Mexico

1. Tiles, ceramics and earthenware

Mexico has a longstanding tradition of creating good-quality pottery. Hit the artisan markets for colorful pots, vases and jugs. Don’t forget to pack carefully.

2. Bright textiles

Woven textiles can be found almost everywhere in Mexico. Hand-woven rugs, blankets, scarves, and ponchos are great reminders of your time in Mexico.

The silver in Mexico is among the world's best. Rings, necklaces and bracelets featuring bold Aztec designs are popular choices.

4. Lucha Libre masks

This Mexican wrestling phenomenon is growing in popularity worldwide, so grab a colorful wrestling mask - it’s a great souvenir for kids (and big kids) at home.

Festivals and events in Mexico

Mexico is the land of the fiesta and the locals will find any reason to party. Whether they're celebrating independence, the saints or the dead, you can expect vibrant colors, lively music and a whole lot of dancing. One to keep an eye out for is the Autumn Equinox, when crowds gather at Chichen Itza to witness the sunlight and shadows play tricks on this ancient relic. During the autumn (and spring) equinox, the sun moves across Chichen Itza, illuminating parts of the temple to reveal the moving body of a snake. Not seen on any other days, this natural spectacle draws thousands of pilgrims.

When is the best time to visit Mexico?

Mexico is a country of varied landscapes and altitudes and the best time to visit depends on a variety of factors, the first of which is where you actually want to go.

Is it safe to visit Mexico?

Mexico has long been a popular tourist destination and most travelers do not run into any trouble. There are, however, areas that experience high levels of violent crime as a result of lawlessness and drug trafficking. That said, you can rest assured that Intrepid would not take you anywhere unless we were convinced it was safe.

Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico?

All tourists traveling to Mexico need a tourist permit, but not all need a visa. Citizens of the US, EU, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand are among those who do not need a visa and can obtain a tourist permit on arrival.

Is tipping customary in Mexico?

Tipping is expected in most parts of Mexico. The service workers typically earn a low wage and rely on tips to earn a decent living. We recommend leaving 10–15 percent at restaurants (if the service charge is not already included), 5–10 percent of your room cost for housekeepers, and a few dollars for porters, bartenders and guides.

What is the internet access like in Mexico?

Internet access is good in Mexico with wi-fi available in most accommodations, bigger restaurants, airports and in some public spaces. It’s also easy and affordable to buy a local SIM card for the duration of your Mexico tour.

Can I use my cell phone in Mexico?

If you wish to use your cell phone while in Mexico be sure to activate global roaming before leaving your home country. You should also check with your provider regarding any charges you may incur when overseas.

If you wish to purchase a local SIM card in Mexico, your phone must first be unlocked. For more information on local SIM cards, please read about   internet access in Mexico .

What are the toilets like in Mexico?

It's likely that you will encounter different types of toilets while traveling in Mexico. Western-style flushable toilets are commonly found in high-end resorts, hotels and restaurants, while squat toilets are common in rural areas and homes. Be prepared by carrying your own supply of toilet paper and soap, as these aren't always provided.

What will it cost for a...?

Mexico’s unit of currency is the peso:

  • Cheap local meal = MXN 150.00
  • Domestic beer at a restaurant = MXN 50
  • One-way metro ticket in Mexico City = MXN 6.00
  • Mid-range meal = MXN 400.00

Can I drink the water in Mexico?

We do not recommend drinking the water in Mexico.

For environmental reasons, try to avoid buying bottled water and fill a reusable water bottle or canteen with filtered water instead. Ask your leader where filtered water can be found; some hotels we stay in may have drinking water available, often boiled to use for tea or coffee.

It’s also advisable to avoid ice in drinks and to peel fruit and vegetables before eating.

Are credit cards widely accepted in Mexico?

Credit cards are generally accepted in Mexico at large stores and most mid- high-range hotels. Some cafes, bars and restaurants may accept card too, but the places with real character – and the best local food – tend to be cash only.

What is ATM access like in Mexico?

ATMs are available across towns and cities in Mexico. Travelers should not encounter trouble finding an ATM but be wary of international transaction fees. For your own safety, try to use ATMs in daylight hours.

What is the weather like in Mexico?

Mexico is renowned for its sunshine and sandy beaches, but the weather can vary depending on the region you’re traveling to and the time of year.

What public holidays are celebrated in Mexico?

  • 1 Jan: New Year’s Day
  • 5 Feb: Constitution Day
  • 21 Mar: Day off for Benito Juarez’s Birthday Memorial (variable)
  • April: Maundy Thursday/Good Friday (variable)
  • 1 May: Labor Day
  • 16 Sep: Independence Day
  • Nov: Revolution Day Memorial (held 3rd Monday of the month)
  • 12 Dec: Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe
  • 25 Dec: Christmas Day

Please note:  Mexico public holidays may vary.

Is Mexico safe for LGBTQIA+ travellers?

Mexico is becoming increasingly more accepting of same-sex relationships and has laws in place to protect those that identify differently, but it remains a country of strong Catholicism that has historically been hostile towards the local LGBTQIA+ community.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or  ILGA  before you travel.

If you are travelling solo on an Intrepid group tour, you will share accommodation with a passenger of the same gender as per your passport information. If you don’t identify with the gender assigned on your passport, please let us know at time of booking and we’ll arrange the rooming configuration accordingly. A single supplement is available on some tours for travellers who do not wish to share a room.

Is Mexico accessible for travelers with disabilities?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

Tourist destinations in Mexico including Mexico City and the resort areas on the Yucatan Peninsula are seeing an increasing number of hotels, restaurants and tourist sights fitted out to accommodate travelers with limitations. That said, it can still be difficult for those with mobility issues and visual and hearing issues, particularly on public transport. We recommend using taxis to move around locally and flying between cities if possible unless, of course, you are on an Intrepid Mexico tour.

If you do live with a visual, hearing or other impairment, let your booking agent or group leader know early on so they’re aware and suitable arrangements can be made. As a general rule, knowing some common words in the local language, carrying a written itinerary with you and taking to the streets in a group, rather than solo, can help make your travel experience the best it can be.

What should I wear in Mexico?

What you pack for your Mexico tour will depend on where you are traveling to. Mexico City, for example, will be much cooler than the coastal areas of Playa del Carmen or Tulum, thanks to its high altitude. In the winter, it can drop down towards freezing at night while reaching 73°F during the day, so it’s important to be prepared for both ends of the spectrum.

What's the accommodation like in Mexico?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodation as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Mexico you may find yourself staying in a basic hotel.

Intrepid prefers smaller character-filled hotels and guesthouses than hotel chains. When on vacation in Mexico, enjoy staying in small hotels owned and run by friendly locals.

Does my trip to Mexico support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Mexico directly support our foundation partner, Gastromotiva Mexico.

Gastromotiva Mexico

Gastromotiva Mexico is tackling food scarcity and homelessness while promoting a sustainable food movement. Donations help them provide nutritious, balanced meals to community shelters for vulnerable people such as women affected by domestic violence and refugees.

Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

More information about mexico.

A huge country, located in the southern part of North America, Mexico ignites the imagination with images of Mariachi bands, idyllic beaches and mysterious Mayan Ruins , such as those of Chichen Itza, Tulum,  and Palenque . Mexico shares borders with the United States, Belize,  and Guatemala, and has coastlines on the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, ensuring a fantastic mix of beach resorts, one of the country’s premier attractions. With a population numbering more than 120 million inhabitants, Mexico is a notoriously populous country and in fact the world’s largest Spanish-speaking nation.

The country is also home to one of the largest cities in the world, the sprawling metropolis of Mexico City, a high-altitude capital known for its 13th-century Aztec Templo Mayor and the baroque Catedral Metropolitana de México . Many vacation packages to Mexico begins in this monumental city, although another must-see urban center is the city of Guadalajara , which has a distinctly traditional Mexican atmosphere and is known for its production of tequila . With a world-renowned cuisine, fantastic arts scene, modern cities, amazing archaeological sites, and unspoiled beaches, especially along the Yucatan Peninsula , it is no wonder that vacations to Mexico are becoming increasingly popular.

History of Mexico

As one of the five cradles of civilization , Mexico is perhaps most famous for the significance of its ancient communities and advanced Mesoamerican civilizations such as the Maya, Aztec,  and Teotihuacan. The Teotihuacan’s were among the first of Mexico’s major ancient civilizations, who began building their impressive capital near modern-day Mexico City in around 100 BC.

Without a doubt, the country’s most famous citizen was the Mayans , who thrived between 250 and 900 AD , when they built elaborate cities, invented a calendar system and produced written languages. A tour of Mexico often includes the well-preserved ruins of the cities and temples built in this historic era. This civilization is remembered for its pyramid temples and complex religious practices and their empire was centered in one geographical area covering all of the Yucatan Peninsula , modern-day Guatemala , Belize and parts of the Mexican states of Tabasco and Chiapas , as well as the western part of Honduras and El Salvador.

The size and organized nature of the civilization ensured that it was relatively secure and was able to flourish for an impressively long period of time. Sadly, the Maya empire collapsed around the 10th century, possibly due to overpopulation and exhaustion of natural resources, shortly followed by the rise of the later Aztec civilization. The turning point for the history of Mexico came in the early 16th-century , with the arrival of Spanish Conquistadors , who colonized and took over a large proportion of the Aztec empire, with much of the indigenous population facing devastation from the onslaught of European diseases.

Following on from the conquistadors, missionaries arrived later in the century and converted many of the indigenous to Catholicism , marking a move away from the ancient religions and practices of Mexico’s great civilizations. The country was renamed ‘ New Spain’ by the colonists and acted as an important base for further Spanish exploration in the Americas. During the following centuries, modern Mexican culture developed, especially in the areas of architecture, traditions, and identity. By the early 20th-century, the Mexican people were tired of the inequality that plagued their country and a 10-year revolution, between 1910 and 1920, resulted in a number of social reforms and eventually in the re-establishment of communal farming practices, an important part of Mexican heritage.

Today, it is clear that the struggles faced by the Mexican people have fostered a strong sense of national identity and a huge amount of pride in the people for their ancient roots. A multi-center holiday to Mexico is the most popular way to experience the different sides of life in the country, and the history which has shaped it.

Nature in Mexico

If Mexico’s fascinating history is not appealing enough, then its abundant nature and biodiversity is sure to impress you. In fact, Mexico is one of just 17 ‘Megadiverse’ countries in the world and the natural wealth of its wildlife and ecosystems are one of the major attractions for visitors on a holiday to Mexico. An amazing 707 reptile, 438 mammals and 26,000 plant species can be found in the country and the 34 biosphere reserves and 67 national parks serve to protect and support these impressive populations in the 4th most biodiverse country in the world. Native species include spider monkeys, vaquita porpoise sea cows, an endangered species found in the Gulf of California , ocelots, the rare Quetzal bird, and the Mexican grey wolf.

Mexico is home to environments ranging from mountains to rainforests, volcanoes, deserts, reefs and mystical cenotes, and each environment has its own unique activities, wildlife and attractions to enjoy. From whale-watching on the Yucatan Peninsula to marveling at swarms of Monarch butterflies in the Rosario Sanctuary of Anganguero and wildlife spotting in the Lacandona Jungle, Mexico’s natural abundance can be experienced in any number of ways. Admiring the Copper Canyon and its unique geological formations in Chihuahua, enjoying a boat ride on Lake Chapala, the largest freshwater lake in the country and visiting the petrified waterfalls of Oaxaca’s Hierve el Agua or the firefly forests of Tlaxcala are just some of the most unmissable experiences on a tour of Mexico.

Culture in Mexico

The three colors of Mexico’s flag hold important messages about Mexican identity; green represents the hope and victory of the people, white represents the purity of the country’s ideals and red represents the bloodshed of the nation's heroes, who fought for the freedom of their country.

Mexican culture is much loved around the world and known for its lively traditions and exciting music scene. Religion plays a big role in the lives of everyday people, especially Christianity , and there are a number of important Mexican saints, whilst traditional festivals, such as the Day of the Dead have ignited the imaginations of millions worldwide. On the Day of the Dead, a celebration held annually on the 2nd November, families gather together to remember their deceased relatives and to help their loved ones in their spiritual journey.

Households often decorate an altarpiece with offerings and photos of their passed relatives. The blend of both indigenous and Spanish influences has resulted in a rich gastronomic tradition and a wealth of folk arts and crafts, characterized by colorful embroidery, pottery, and woven baskets and rugs. Mexico is also well known for producing a number of world-renowned artists, such as Frida Kahlo, known for her iconic self-portraits and surrealist modern art, and her husband Diego Riviera , famed for his murals and depictions of life in Mexico.

A vacation package to Mexico will open your eyes to the rich culture, amazing biodiversity and fascinating history of this huge country as you walk through atmospheric temple ruins, swim in the turquoise waters of the many mystic cenotes or taste Tequila in its place of origin. After the excitement of visiting the country’s sights and attractions, relaxing on the tranquil beaches of the Riviera Maya whilst listening to the rhythms of the Mariachi band is the perfect way to unwind.

What travelers say about their trips to Mexico

Travel tips for trips to mexico.

Some things you can do with your group on our  Highlights of Mexico: Oaxaca to Mexico City tour , or during your free time, include:

  • Visit a chocolate factory.  Chocolate is important to Mexico’s history and culture. On our tour, you can visit a factory for a tasting and a look at how it’s made.
  • Take a cooking class.  Cooking is an important culinary tradition in Mexico. Travelers visiting the country on our Mexico tours can take a cooking class in a private home to learn about local ingredients, traditional preparation methods, and more.
  • Visit a mercado, or food market.  In Mexico, markets are packed with vendors selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to homemade bread and colorful candies. Spend time browsing stalls one of these markets for a taste of local life.
  • Taste locally made mezcal.  Made from agave plants that grow in Mexico, mezcal is one of the country’s signature spirits (it’s up there with tequila). Visit a distillery to learn how it’s produced and to try a few different varieties.
  • Shop for locally made handicrafts in Oaxaca.  This UNESCO-recognized city is known for handicrafts such as pottery and textiles. Our trips to Mexico include plenty of free time in the city, which you can spend shopping for the perfect souvenirs to bring home.
  • Swim in a cenote.  Adventurous travelers on trips to Mexico can swim in a cenote, which is essentially a large sinkhole or cave filled with cool, clear groundwater or rainwater. Some of the most popular cenotes are located on the Yucatán Peninsula, which you can visit by adding the Riviera Maya extension on our  Highlights of Mexico: Oaxaca to Mexico City tour .
  • November - March (dry season).  The warm and pleasant, dry season lasts from November through March and is an ideal time to travel on one of our Mexico tours.
  • October and April (shoulder season).  Another good time to travel to Mexico is during shoulder season, in October and April when the weather’s still pleasant and there are fewer crowds. Note that if you visit Mexico in early November, you might spot decorations and other signs of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, an important and deeply spiritual holiday during which Mexicans honor loved ones who have passed on.
  • January - March (whale-watching season).  This time frame is prime for whale watching off the Pacific Coast of Baja California, the narrow strip of land in western Mexico that extends south from California. If you’re traveling on our  Highlights of Mexico: Oaxaca to Mexico City tour , or one of our other  Latin America tours , and would like to visit Baja California, you can lean on our travel experts to help plan an independent pre-or post-tour stay in the area. You can also visit Baja California on a  Customized Tour  of Mexico expertly planned by our in-house travel team.

If you’re planning to join one of our guided tours to Mexico, these are some must-visit sites:

  • Chichén Itzá:  Located on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, this popular archaeological site is home to several Mayan Ruins, including the iconic Chichén Itzá Pyramid (it’s also known as El Castillo, or The Castle). Visit during your free time when you add the Riviera Maya extension on our Highlights of Mexico: Oaxaca to Mexico City tour. And check out  4 things you’ll learn on a tour of Chichén Itzá .
  • Tulum Archaeological Zone.  This site, situated on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, houses ruins of a walled, ancient Mayan city. It’s another can’t-miss spot for travelers who add the Riviera Maya Extension on our Highlights of Mexico: Oaxaca to Mexico City tour.
  • Coba.  Compared to archaeological sites like Chichén Itzá and the Tulum Archaeological Zone, this spot, which is also located on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, sees fewer crowds thanks to its more remote setting. (You’ll see it with a local guide when you add the Riviera Maya extension on our Highlights of Mexico tour.) Bring your sneakers, as you’ll have an opportunity to climb a steep set of stairs to the top of Nohoch Mul pyramid, the tallest Mayan pyramid on the Yucatán Peninsula.
  • Frida Kahlo Museum.  This museum, located in Mexico City’s artsy Coyoacán neighborhood, is devoted to the famous Mexican painter. It’s set in Kahlo’s former home and features her artworks and items from her personal collection. Visit the museum during an optional excursion on our Highlights of Mexico: Oaxaca to Mexico City tour, and spend free time afterward browsing the Coyoacán Market and the Mercado de Antojitos.
  • National Museum of Anthropology.  Opened in 1964 by Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos, this world-renowned, Mexico City museum houses a treasure trove of archaeological and anthropological artifacts from Mexico’s pre-Columbian heritage.
  • Palacio de Bellas Artes . Completed in 1934, this opulent cultural center in Mexico City has hosted events, performances, and exhibitions centered around music, dance, theatre, opera, literature, art, and photography. During your free time on one of our trips to Mexico, you can find it on the western side of the historic center of Mexico City, next to the Alameda Central Park.
  • Playa del Carmen.  Situated along the Riviera Maya on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, this coastal resort town is known for its laid-back beaches, colorful coral reefs, and Quinta Avenida, a pedestrian thoroughfare that’s lined with local restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s also the last stop on tour for travelers who add the Riviera Maya extension on our Highlights of Mexico trip. Playa del Carmen is one reason that the Yucatán Peninsula is one of our top tropical destinations .

Weather in Mexico can be hot, sunny, overcast, breezy, wet, and, in the evenings, even cool. So, light layers, including a light rain jacket, will come in handy. Here are a few more essentials to add to your suitcase.

  • Comfortable shoes.  Our guided Mexico tours include a fair amount of walking—it’s one of the best ways to get to know a destination—so pack shoes that will keep your feet comfy whether you’re hitting the sidewalks of Mexico City or climbing steps to the tops of ancient Mayan pyramids on the Yucatán Peninsula.
  • Sun protection.  Bring brimmed or billed hats, sunglasses, light wraps, lightweight long-sleeved shirts, lightweight pants, and plenty of SPF to protect your skin from Mexico’s strong sunlight. Planning to swim or snorkel in Playa del Carmen during our Riviera Maya extension? Consider bringing a reef-safe sunscreen that will help preserve the area’s aquatic environment.
  • A small crossbody bag or backpack.  Whether you’re browsing pottery markets in Oaxaca or climbing pyramids on the Yucatán Peninsula, a small crossbody bag or backpack will keep your hands free, and essentials, such as sunscreen and a bottle of water, within easy reach.
  • Your camera.  From ancient Mayan ruins to charming, UNESCO-recognized cities to postcard-perfect beaches, our trips to Mexico offer countless photo ops, and you won’t want to miss a single one.

Here a few dishes to try on our Mexico trips:

  • Mole.  Considered one of the most important dishes in Mexico, mole (pronounced MOLE-ay) is any deeply flavorful sauce made by blending together a mixture of herbs, dried spices, chiles, nuts, seeds, and other ingredients—even chocolate (this type is known as mole poblano). Mole can be green (mole verde), black (mole negro), or another color, such as red or yellow, and preparations and ingredients vary by region. Mole sauces are often served as a dressing for meats or poured atop dishes like enchiladas. Have fun trying as many as you can while traveling on one of our tours to Mexico!
  • Chilaquiles.  Featuring layers of fried corn tortillas, green or red salsa, scrambled or fried eggs, pulled chicken, cheese, and refried beans, this savory, sometimes spicy, dish is typically served for breakfast.
  • Pozole.  This slow-cooked, hominy-based soup, a staple of Mexican cuisine, dates to pre-Hispanic times. Chicken, pork, and vegetarian versions are served with garnishes such as onion, radish, lettuce, lime, and chili.
  • Tacos al pastor.  This popular type of taco is another can’t-miss dish to try when you travel on one of our tours to Mexico. (Its name translates to “in the style of the shepherd,” a nod to the Lebanese and Syrian immigrants who originated the dish in Mexico in the early 20th century.) Strips of pork, cooked shawarma-style on a spit, are piled onto a corn tortilla, along with diced onion, fresh cilantro, and pineapple. Simple, and so delicious!
  • Elote.  If you join one of our Mexico tour packages and see a street vendor selling this snack, don’t pass up a chance to try it. It’s made by topping a boiled cob of corn with salt, chili powder, lime, butter, cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Whether it’s served on a stick or in a cup, we’re pretty sure you’ll want to go back for seconds. (Just don't forget to grab a few servilletas, or napkins!)
  • Guacamole.  A popular party snack in many parts of the world, this mashup—considered a mole in Mexico—of avocado, onion, tomato, lime juice, and chili peppers dates back to the time of the Aztecs. Scoop it up with warm tortilla chips as a snack, or add it as a garnish to tacos, enchiladas, or other traditional Mexican dishes.

Before setting off on one of our Mexico trip packages, keep a few things in mind.

  • Mexico has some of the best food in the world.  Even if you don’t consider yourself an adventurous eater, when you travel to Mexico, open yourself up to new flavors and ingredients. Hallmarks of Mexican cooking include warming spices, bright flavor courtesy of fresh fruit and herbs, and simple ingredients that yield big flavor thanks to thoughtful, sometimes painstaking, preparation.
  • Don’t drink the tap water.  Stick to bottled water, whether you’re in your hotel room or in a restaurant.
  • Travel with a little cash.  Conveniently for travelers on Mexico tours, credit cards are widely accepted around the country. Many street vendors only accept cash, but ATMs are typically easy to find if you need a few pesos.

America’s southern neighbor is worthy of multiple tours – diverse, affordable, and easy to reach.

Stretching from the far northern Sonoran deserts to the far southern Chiapas rainforests, and from the deep blue Pacific Coast in the west to the turquoise Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea in the east – with innumerable cultural, artistic, historic, and culinary treasures in between -- Mexico offers a lifetime of memorable travel experiences.

Well-publicized incidents of gang-related violence along some northern border towns and certain resort areas (such as Acapulco) have deterred some travelers from visiting Mexico, but the vast majority of the country’s regions are safe. Reputable tour operators know to avoid problem areas, so there’s no need to deprive yourself of visiting some of North America’s most alluring attractions. Here are some highlights:

Visiting Mexico City

While this is one of the world’s largest cities, Mexico City has a manageably sized historic center that draws travelers to its Spanish-colonial architecture, museums, cathedrals, cafes and restaurants. The huge square known as the Zocalo is the heart of it all. North of the city you can visit the Teotihuacán Pyramids, which date from 300 BC, predating the Aztecs by a millennium The Pyramid of the Sun there (flanked by the Pyramid of the Moon), is one of the world’s largest pyramids. Teotihuacán, once one of the world’s largest cities in its own right, is Mexico’s most visited archeological site.

The Yucatan Peninsula

The Yucatan is a big, diverse peninsula that sticks up like a giant thumb into the Gulf of Mexico and also borders the Caribbean Sea. The peninsula is the site of multiple Mayan ruins, any of which are worth seeing. But the jewel in the crown is the huge complex at Chichen Itza, where you can view some 18 structures that date from around 600 AD and display a sophisticated knowledge of astronomy hundreds of years before Europeans did. The giant Pyramid Kukulcan is the star of the show: at sunset on the spring and fall equinoxes, shadows on the pyramid’s steps resemble a snake descending from top to bottom.  You can also see the ball fields where games were played resulting in the sacrifice of the losing team captain – or perhaps, according to new theories, the winning team captain.

Another ancient highlight is Tulum, a smaller Mayan complex where the tropical heat is mitigated by its splendid location right on the Caribbean.  Near Tulum are other ruins set deep in the rainforest. The coastline north of Tulum has been dubbed the Mayan Riviera, culminating in the popular and sometimes rowdy resort town of Cancun. Along the way lies the quieter, pretty beach town of Playa del Carmen.

Touring Central Mexico

Here you’ll find some of the most charming cities and villages in the country. Guadalajara, Mexico’s second largest city, is known for its colonial architecture, attractive plazas, huge public market, moderate temperatures and mariachi bands. San Miguel de Allende is a mountainous colonial-era village with cobbled streets, striking architecture, and an arts scene that has attracted a steady stream of expats drawn to its beauty, culture, and, again, moderate temperatures.

The Pacific Coast

Mexico’s lengthy Pacific coastline encompasses the west coast of the 750-mile-long Baja California peninsula in the far north and leads south all the way to Guatemala. The golden-sand beaches here are some of the most beautiful in the world, and you can have your choice of small fishing villages or the more developed and popular resort towns such as Mazatlan, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, and Puerto Vallarta. Many are loaded with unspoiled charm, while others offer luxury accommodations -- and most are wonderful places to relax after a heavy round of touring.

Baja California, with the resort town of Cabo San Lucas at its tip, is an ideal place to take a small-ship cruise in search of whales and other marine mammals in the Sea of Cortez. Separated from the ocean by the peninsula, the calm sea waters are good for swimming, Scuba diving, and snorkeling.

The Gulf of Mexico Coast

The port city of Veracruz isn’t as widely visited as many Pacific coast resorts, but it has an interesting history (with Spanish, native Mexican, and African-Caribbean influences), some notable architecture, a long promenade for strolling the waterfront, Latin America’s largest aquarium, a big annual Carnaval celebration, good seafood, and some decent beaches.

Colonial History in Oaxaca

Located about 300 miles south of Mexico City, Oaxaca is one of the finest examples of Spanish colonial cities in the country, with exceptional architecture and a rich cultural tradition that features native Mexican as well as Spanish influences. Two big public markets are excellent places to buy crafts and try some of the local food specialties, while various ancient archeological sites dot the region.

Chiapas Rainforests

This state in far southern Mexico is wild and untamed in spots, a place to take guided rainforest hikes but also to visit Spanish colonial towns and encounter a number of indigenous cultures. It’s home to the Palenque archeological site, one of the finest ancient Mayan ruins in the country, dating back two millennia or more.

Puerto Vallarta

Combine mexico with..., about mexico, mexico faq's.

There are so many things Mexico is known for. Tourists come to Mexico for varied experiences, from beach getaways to cities and towns chock-full of history . Those who come to Mexico to enjoy the beaches love to partake in water sports such as diving, snorkeling, surfing, yachting , and parasailing , and a growing number of visitors also enjoy outdoor recreational eco-tours , many of which combine pyramids and temples built by the Mayans . Spanish colonial influence is evident in many of Mexico`s cities and towns, and colonial buildings are just a stone`s throw by the temples and sacred grounds built by both the Mayans and the Aztecs . No matter where you go in Mexico, it is a great place for shopping at every price point, from Liverpool luxury department store to small, locally-owned souvenir shops . Visitors to Mexico also take the time to sample many Mexican dishes (the more the better!), complete with shots of delicious tequila and mezcal .

Tourists typically visit Mexico a region at a time and explore from there, so the best places to recommend depend on which part of the country you want to visit. If you are arriving in Mexico City , spend a few days exploring this beautiful capital city and then head south to Oaxaca or northwest to Guanajuato and charming San Miguel de Allende . If you want to visit the Riviera Maya , fly into colonial gem Mérida or the nightlife mecca of Cancún and explore further to such sights as Chichén Itza, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel Island , and Tulum . Those who head west from Mexico City should take time to visit Guadalajara , Puerto Vallarta , and Mazatlán . Visitors to Baja California love to see such tourist spots as Los Cabos , Tijuana , and Ensenada . If you`re combining Tikal in Guatemala with your stay in Mexico, stop by the quaint town of San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas state.

We recommend seeing Mexico during the dry season , which corresponds to the period of time between December and April . Pacific and Atlantic hurricane seasons occur between June and November, which is the rainy season for much of the country. Prices will be lower but humidity and rain chances will be at their highest. The dry season is also the high season, so if you are looking for a better deal, you might want to consider summer and autumn.

We recommend approximately 7-10 days based on what you want to see and do. We offer flexible vacation packages so you can select your number of nights in each city, desired hotel and activities. We suggest a minimum of 3 nights in Mexico City, along the Pacific Coast, and on the Riviera Maya.

We recommend seeing Mexico by air and by private transfer . While it is possible to rent a car and drive in many parts of Mexico, it may come as a culture shock for Americans, as driving over the speed limit is the norm and this may frazzle people whether they are on highways or in big cities. Mexico`s road system is not developed to the same extent seen in the United States, making cross-country road trips more difficult in terms of not just amenities along motorways but also in terms of safety (many stretches of highway are not illuminated at night). Let trusted drivers pick you up from your hotel or the airport in late-model, air-conditioned luxury instead, taking the guesswork out of getting from Point A to Point B. Note: You will notice police checkpoints set up along motorways leading up to major towns and cities; don`t be alarmed, the police are checking for trafficking of illicit drugs, and most times travelers who present themselves as if they are tourists are immediately waved through the checkpoints without any further inquiry.

The currency of Mexico is the Mexican peso (written in shorthand as $, MXN$ or MXP). U.S. dollars are not legal tender and are not accepted in most shops, but many tourist-geared shops and resorts accept payment in U.S. dollars, usually on a more disadvantageous exchange rate than the current rate at banks. We recommend paying and tipping in Mexican pesos as much as possible in order to make your funds on vacation stretch for a longer period of time. Be prepared to arrive with the correct currency on hand or make sure to retrieve pesos on arrival, which you can do at a number of ATMs in the airport and across the country. (The ATMs with the best exchange rates are typically ones operated by Banco Santander (red) and Citigroup/Banamex (gray).) There are currency exchange desks at many locations throughout the country as well, some offering competitive exchange rates in relation to ATMs.

Spanish is the official language of Mexico. English speakers will be found in most places there are a lot of tourists, such Mexico City and other major cities, historic sites, resorts, and major shopping districts popular with tourists. English is also popular with younger Mexicans who routinely consume media from the U.S. and U.K., many times with English audio and Spanish subtitles. It may be more difficult to find people who speak English in smaller towns or in shops away from tourist zones, but most Mexicans are accommodating and will work with tourists who are positive and pleasant in their interactions with them. Be prepared to learn basic Spanish phrases like hello/goodbye, please/thank you, how much is it?, where is the bathroom, and the numbers from 1-10 and 50, 100, and 1,000. To say `Do you speak English?`, say ` ¿Habla inglés? `

Mexico Vacation, Trip & Tour Packages

mexico tour packages from usa

Mexico is the 14th largest country in the area in the world, has 10,000 kilometres/6000 miles of coastline and is ethnically made up of a mixture of Spanish and Indigenous peoples. Historically, it has grown from a melting pot of 300 years of many cultures including the Spanish Conquistadores and the advanced civilizations of the Mayan and Aztec Indians.

Why visit Mexico?

Mexico is a tourist-oriented very diverse destination offering many excellent beach resorts, amazing archeological sites, colourful  colonial cities , sophisticated metropolises and natural beauty in its varied terrain, all to be enjoyed on a Mexico vacation. Whatever reason one has to visit the country on a Mexico vacation package, it is well worth combining pleasure and culture both provided in abundance in this destination. If the prime reason for a visit is sea, sun and sand, one is spoiled for choice. On the Pacific Ocean Coast, there is an array of excellent and attractive resorts such as Acapulco, a sophisticated and urban destination, the smaller resorts of Mazatlan and Manzanillo plus the resorts of the Baja Peninsula with its dramatic sea and landscapes, remote deserts and dormant volcanoes including the popular Cabo San Lucas. On the Atlantic Coast, in the Yucatan Peninsula are also a number of excellent resorts such as Cancun and Playa del Carmen. An advantage to these would be to explore the Peninsula laden with archaeological treasures and Colonial cities. The resort of Cozumel offers clear blue waters with wonderful coral reefs perfect for scuba diving or snorkelling on a Mexico vacation.

What are the top resorts to visit in Mexico? Pacific Coast

Puerto Vallarta was first put on the map by Hollywood stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. It is a very picturesque resort. The town itself has cobblestone streets, white-walled houses and red-tiled roofs. In Puerto Vallarta, you can enjoy spectacular sunsets. Mazatlan is a mixture of culture and history within a modern destination. It is known worldwide as a sport fishing destination. Visitors can enjoy surfing, horseback riding, mountain biking, bird watching and golf in Mazatlan as well as its 25 kilometres/16 miles of golden beaches. Zihuatanejo retains the feel of an authentic Mexican small fishing town in a beautiful setting as the Sierra Madre mountains are close by. Popular activities include scuba diving, surfing, and deep-sea fishing. Located on the southern tip of Baja California, Los Cabos is a favourite getaway for Hollywood stars and celebrities who enjoy the gorgeous scenery and luxurious resorts. Only a few of Los Cabos' beaches are suitable for swimming, but there are plenty of other activities such as whale watching, sport fishing, and golfing.

Atlantic Coast

On a Mexico vacation, the  Yucatan Peninsula  contains a number of popular beach resorts which include Cancun , a fairly recently man-made resort dating back to 1970 before which it did not exist, Cozumel with its excellent scuba diving and snorkelling sites and  Playa del Carmen , one of the fastest-growing resorts on the peninsula with luxury residential condominium buildings, restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues.

What are the top cities or places to visit? Mexico City

The capital, Mexico City deserves several days to really make good use of the many attractions of North America’s largest city by population. The historic centre is a good starting point for Mexico vacations with the majestic Zocalo, the largest square in Latin America and the third largest in the world after Tien An Men Square, Beijing and Red Square, Moscow. Nearby is the Aztec Temple Mayor. The city boasts one of the largest parks in the world in the beautiful and lush Chapultepec Park, home to several museums and art galleries including the renowned National Museum of Anthropology with its amazing collection. It also houses a zoo, a castle and several lakes. In the near-lying suburbs are atmospheric San Angel with its cobblestone streets, upscale restaurants and boutiques, Coyoacan, an arts district and previously home to artists, Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera plus Leon Trotsky and Xochimilco known as the Mexican Venice with its canals. Just outside Mexico City is the Teotihuacan Mayan archaeological site with its Pyramid of the Sun and also Taxco, a very pretty town known for its silverware and jewellery.

Guadalajara

Guadalajara is the second largest city in the country with a colonial downtown. It is the home of Mariachi music and Tequila. The cathedral here built first in the 16th Century took 50 years to complete and rivals the one in Mexico City. The mural "The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin" by Bartolome Esteban Murillo must be seen. The Plaza de Los Mariachis is where you will find several mariachis bands who offer their music for a small fee.

Puebla, south-east of Mexico City, surrounded by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains, is a colonial city worth visiting on a Mexico vacation. It is known for its colonial architecture as well as being famous for its ceramics. The Catedral de Puebla is widely considered to be one of the country’s best with its tiled roof. The Museo Amparo has one of the finest collections of Mexican art in Latin America with everything from pre-Hispanic art to modern-day pieces.

Oaxaca is a city located about 480 kilometres/300 miles south of Mexico City. Oaxaca city’s pleasantly mild climate, due to its altitude of 1560 metres/5000 feet above sea level, is but one of many reasons to visit it on a Mexico vacation. Rich in history and culture, Oaxaca is a fascinating destination where you can appreciate ancient civilizations, colonial art and architecture and vibrant cultural traditions. It is especially known for its indigenous peoples and culture as well as its prehistoric ruins, baroque churches and monasteries and indigenous markets.

  • Colonial Mexico

The Spanish Colonial era lasted around 300 years between 1521 and 1821. During this period, many cities and towns in Mexico inherited the style of architecture and ambience of the Spanish influence which can be experienced today on Mexico vacations. Some of the major Colonial cities are San Miguel de Allende, probably the most attractive colonial city in the country situated north of Mexico City on the “Colonial Route". The narrow cobblestone streets, leafy courtyards and well-preserved 17th and 18th Century buildings make this a pleasant city to spend time in. It is a town that has developed a following among artists. San Luis Potosi is an old silver mining city with its colonial inheritance of magnificent buildings, art and public spaces and Guanajuato is a gem named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO with its genuine Spanish Colonial look, style, and feel and atmosphere.

Puebla, southeast of Mexico City is another colonial city worth visiting on a Mexico vacation. It is surrounded by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains and is known for its pottery and colourful ceramic tiles.

Guadalajara is a graceful city with a colonial downtown. It is the home of Mariachi music and Tequila. Oaxaca in the southern part of Mexico is a charming city full of culture with a rich and colourful history. Check out the indigenous market and the ruins of Monte Alban, a pre-Columbian archaeological site. In contrast, on a Mexico vacation, consider a train journey through the wild and exotic Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Mountains (an extension of the Rocky Mountains in the US).

Mexico vows to continue accepting non-Mexican migrants deported by U.S. border agents

By Camilo Montoya-Galvez

May 3, 2023 / 7:41 AM EDT / CBS News

Mexico's government has agreed to accept non-Mexican migrants and asylum-seekers deported by U.S. authorities along the southern border even after the pandemic-related emergency rule known as Title 42 lapses next week, Mexican and U.S. officials said in a joint statement late Tuesday.

The agreement between Washington and Mexico City will allow the Biden administration to continue deporting some migrants who U.S. officials have struggled to deport to their home countries due to diplomatic or logistical reasons, such as Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans.

It will also allow the U.S. to continue a major component of the border strategy President Biden unveiled this year — applying "consequences" to, or deporting, migrants who enter the country unlawfully and fail to use a legal migration channel created by his administration.

The agreement was announced after senior U.S. officials, including Mr. Biden's Homeland Security Adviser, Liz Sherwood-Randall, met with Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador in Mexico City to outline their plans to manage migration once Title 42 expires next week.

Since March 2020, Title 42 , a public health authority dating back to World War II, has allowed U.S. border agents to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants to Mexico or their home countries without giving them a chance to seek asylum. The policy is set to sunset on May 11, with the expiration of the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Most migrants have been expelled to Mexico, which has accepted returns of migrants from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, alongside its own citizens, under Title 42. Since January, Mexico has also accepted expulsions of migrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela.

Haitian Migrants Stranded In Mexico City

Senior U.S. officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, had previously said that it was their intention to continue deporting migrants from these four crisis-stricken countries to Mexico. But Mexico had not publicly announced their agreement until Tuesday. In the joint statement, Mexico said it would continue receiving non-Mexican migrants for "humanitarian reasons."

The deportations after Title 42 end would be carried out under regulation immigration law, including a process known as expedited removal, which could lead to migrants' swift deportation, and banishment from the U.S. for five years, if they don't claim asylum or are deemed ineligible for protection.

Those deportations are expected to work in conjunction with a soon-to-be finalized regulation that will disqualify non-Mexican migrants from asylum if they failed to seek refuge in a third country before entering the U.S. illegally.

The five-pillar plan unveiled Tuesday by the U.S. and Mexico also highlighted efforts to target human smugglers, including a campaign with Panamanian and Colombian officials to stem the flow of migration near the notorious and roadless Darién jungle connecting Panama with South America

The plan includes references to improving conditions in Central America, expanding legal migration pathways for would-be migrants and modernizing ports of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border to facilitate legal trade and travel. Officials also pointed to the establishment of processing centers in Colombia and Guatemala, announced last week by the U.S., so migrants can be considered for resettlement in those countries, the U.S., Canada or Spain.

The plan revealed for the first time that the U.S. had committed to admitting up to 100,000 migrants from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salavador under a program that will allow citizens of those countries to enter the U.S. legally if they have approved visa sponsorship requests from family members who are U.S. citizens or legal residents.

Tuesday's agreement underscores the growing influence and role of the Mexican government in U.S. efforts to manage and deter migration to the southern border, where U.S. officials are preparing for what could be a historic spike in illegal crossings.

The Biden administration is preparing for more than 10,000 migrants to enter U.S. border custody each day after Title 42 lifts, a number that would double the daily average in March. In the lead-up to the policy shift, border arrivals have already increased sharply, with U.S. border agents recording between 7,000 and 8,000 migrant apprehensions in recent days.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon announced the deployment of another 1,500 troops to the southern border to relieve some of the pressure on border agents by helping them with operational duties, such as transportation and data entry. In accordance with federal law and long-standing practice, the active-duty service members will not detain or otherwise process migrants.

Mexico City Hiking Tour: Trek Glorious Volcanoes

A great tour is for those who love hiking and are in Mexico City, the difficulty of hikes increases with each one you take finishing with La Malinche, a full-day hike where you will reach the summit (we also opted to climb to Nevado de toluca, for iztaccihuatl you would need a 2-day hike as it's more technical so we went till gate 4 only). make sure to acclimatize to the altitude a couple of days in Mexico City before. The organization and communication from the company was great and our guide Jorge was also very professional, accommodatingand and with nice sense of humor.

Food Tour Mexico: Enjoy Grutas, Delicious Pulque and Mexican Dishes

My wife and kids recently had an unforgettable 5-day private tour with Vibe to Hidalgo. Our guide, Tony, was exceptional - knowledgeable, entertaining, and always in the flow. The Tolantongo caves were a highlight, with the kids thoroughly enjoying the experience. The basaltic prisms were also a unique and breathtaking sight. Exploring Real del Monte, the hometown of my grandmother, was a journey through history, and the pastes museum was a must-visit. Thank you Vibe and special thanks to Tony for making it an unforgettable experience!

Mexico City Break - 4 Days Tour

Mexico City Break - 4 Days

The tour was very good. I thought the hotel was in a great location and the breakfasts were delicious. The first day of touring at the pyramids was fantastic. RosaMaria is a very knowledgeable and personable guide. She easily explained everything in Spanish and English. Unfortunately, the second day of touring was not nearly as informative. The guide was very kind, but he was not able to communicate in English. He tried! Needless to say, if you sign up for an English language tour, that should be made available. I have a little Spanish, so I learned a little, but I do NOT recommend this tour for non Spanish speakers.
