Event Details

Hosted by Union Square Association Tickets The famous Union Square Cookie Tour of Historic Homes began in 1985

Hosted by Union Square Association

The famous Union Square Cookie Tour of Historic Homes began in 1985 as a fall house tour, where residents greeted scores of visitors from all over the Washington-Baltimore region. As the competition among house tours grew, the association moved the event closer to Christmastime and now consistently welcomes 500 guests to the neighborhood yearly (with the added bonus of homemade cookies!).

We are incredibly excited to continue our traditional tour in 2022. We are sure you will enjoy the history and architecture of our Baltimore homes in person.

This year’s Cookie Tour will be held on Sunday, December 11th, from 12 noon until 4:30 pm. Check-in will take place in Union Square Park.

To keep the safety of our residents and guests at the forefront, we have broken the tickets into two groups to allow for proper social distancing. The first group will have from 12-2 PM to view the homes, and the second group will have from 2:30-4:30. The half-hour before each start time is to allow for check-in.

Limited tickets will be available the day of, subject to capacity limits, and will be offered at an increased price.

There will be increased safety measures enforced throughout the event, such as temperature checks and the requirement that masks be worn by all, regardless of vaccination status.

Proceeds from the event support the Association’s upkeep of Union Square Park and various activities focused on engaging neighbors, including our Bloom Your Block campaign, the Lots of Art initiative, and the Sunday Sounds in the Park music series.  We rely on events like the Cookie Tour to allow us to support our community and neighbors throughout the following year.  For more information on Union Square Association, please visit  unionsquareassociation.org .

Looking for something to put you in the holiday spirit? An event this weekend will satisfy your sweet tooth and give you some decorating ideas in the process.

Ann Kennedy has lived in her historic home on West Lombard Street for about five years.

"A lot of it I’ve collected over the years," Kennedy said.

She's excited for the public to visit this weekend and see her holiday decorations for the 38th annual Union Square Cookie Tour of historic homes.

"Fourteen homes, they are all very different. Very unique. The architecture changes from home to home the size of the home," Kennedy said.

It's where sweet tooth's and history buffs unite. Each stop along the tour offers homemade cookies.

"Five hundred cookies. This year I’m making a lemon shortbread cookie," homeowner Debra Rahl said.

Rahl helped create the event more than three decades ago and said while people sample, they can walk through the Victorian-Era homes and get ideas. She said meeting visitors is the best part.

"They get to meet the homeowners, which is a great thing. We usually find a new homeowner that comes through that will buy a house in the neighborhood. It's just fun to meet people," Rahl said.

Everyone who comes gets a bag to collect all of the cookies. Tickets are available online at the following website and the event is rain or shine.

About Union Square

A Vibrant Historic Neighborhood in Southwest Baltimore

The landscape of Union Square – with its walkways, pavilion, fountain, and wrought iron lamps – recalls Victorian Era Baltimore. The Union Square Historic District is an area of Victorian rowhouses and commercial structures located approximately 10 blocks west of the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. The neighborhood is built on a grid street system which conforms to the original 1818 layout of the area. The terrain gently slopes down from west and east. Union Square Park is a block-size park containing an ornate fountain and Greek Revival pavilion.

The Union Square Association is a neighborhood volunteer organization. By harnessing the time and talents of our residents from over fifty-two countries, we have been able to establish and maintain a thriving neighborhood. We welcome everyone and strongly believe our diversity makes us a robust, engaged and supportive community.
