RATM’s post is a curious one which, at the time of writing, wasn’t shared to the rockers’ Facebook or Instagram pages and fails to mention whether recording projects are still in the cards. Bandmates Zack de la Rocha (vocals), bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford (bass) and Tom Morello (guitar) have not commented.

The L.A. group was finally tapped for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, after five tries. Internal band issues were obvious then; Morello was the only member to attend the induction ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

RATM released just four albums during their initial 1991-2000 run before reforming for live dates from 2007-2011 and again in 2019 for a string of shows that were first interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and then by de la Rocha’s leg injury.

LPs Evil Empire (from 1996) and The Battle Of Los Angeles (1999) both peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

RATM has made eight total appearances on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay , with three songs in the top 10 (all in 2000), including “Guerrilla Radio,” which peaked at No. 69 on the Hot 100.

When their name was called out for induction into the Rock Hall class of ’23, the band recounted, by way of a statement, how they put their rage into action.

They were, the statement reads, “A band who shut down the NY Stock Exchange for the first time in its history.

“A band who was targeted by police organizations who attempted to ban us from sold out arenas for raising our voices to free Mumia Abu Jamal, Leonard Peltier and other political prisoners

“A band who sued the US State Department for their fascist practice of using our music to torture innocent men in Guantanamo Bay.”

And, “a band who wrote rebel songs in an abandoned, industrial warehouse in the valley that would later dethrone Simon Cowell ’s X Factor pop monopoly to occupy the number 1 spot on the UK charts and have the most downloaded song in U.K. history.”

It’s now an amusing piece of U.K. chart history that, following a public campaign, “Killing In The Name” became 2009’s coveted Christmas U.K. No. 1 – and in doing so killing the established tradition that the winner of X Factor would claim the prize.

After 2 Years of Silent COVID Compliance, Rage Against the Machine Returns

So much for “fuck you, i won’t do what you tell me.”.

Christian Britschgi | 8.4.2022 12:05 PM

After two years of pandemic protocols, precautions, and prohibitions, Rage Against the Machine finally took the stage in Washington, D.C., for a long-anticipated, much-delayed reunion tour to shout fuck you, I won't do what you tell me .

At back-to-back concerts in a packed Capital One Arena, rock's most radical band reinforced just how enduring its musical appeal is while adding a layer of awkward irony to the ideological project that runs through its lyrics.

Filling up a 20,000-person arena in a city where COVID fears still have people wearing masks outside is no mean feat—particularly when the cheapest tickets cost just under $200. It's doubly impressive for a band that hasn't released a full-length album of original material this century.

Rage's Tuesday night show provided ample evidence for why people turned out. It was a tight, energetic performance one might have expected of a band half its age. The lack of new material didn't matter much to an audience eager to rap along to well-worn classics like "Take the Power Back," "Know Your Enemy," and "Testify."

But if its music and performance have managed to stay fresh, Rage's message can't help but feel rather stale and ordinary, given how politics has shaken out since its heyday—and particularly over the past couple years that its reunion tour has been delayed.

The lyrical themes of Rage Against the Machine are a whirlwind of historical references and contemporary 1990s polemics—a merger of old-school hippie paranoia about the security state ("Hoover, he was a body remover") with fresher attacks on an American-led post–Cold War order ("NAFTA comin' with tha new disaster").

Tying it all together is a rejection of "the system" itself as racist, exploitative, and inherently oppressive ("some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses"). Its broadsides against the FBI and U.S. foreign policy will easily resonate with libertarians. The attacks against consumerism and free trade won't.

Viewed in the context of the decade in which the band was made, there was something refreshingly fun and nonpartisan about these attacks on a "machine" whose oppressive nature didn't change all that much from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton.

But keeping this all fresh and distinctive has been a challenge. That's partly because many of Rage's once radical ideas have become basically mainstream.

Attacking globalization was a little bolder in the 1990s when Democrats and Republicans were largely supported it. Rage guitarist Tom Morello's headlining of the 2016 "Rock against the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership)" tour was less courageous when one considers that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both also came out against that modest free trade agreement.

Similarly, the band provoked cheers when it flashed an "abort the Supreme Court" text on a massive screen at Tuesday's D.C. show. One likely could have gotten the same message by turning on MSNBC.

The fading distinctiveness of Rage's brand of politics is less disappointing than the band's failure to apply its message of radical nonconformity to the issue of the past two years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one long series of the machine telling people what to do, from staying inside and social distancing, to wearing masks, to getting vaccinated. Rage Against the Machine has been conspicuously silent about all that.

I'm not aware of any band members going so far as to endorse lockdowns or other pandemic measures. Morello seemed to criticize mandates in 2020 when responding on Twitter to the hilarious rumor that the band would help President Joe Biden promote mask wearing and social distancing. But he was also incredibly dismissive of the idea that anyone would do anything but listen to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and isolate themselves.

It's possible for radical leftists to think COVID-19 restrictions were a prudent, effective means of controlling a deadly virus. Perhaps the system got that one right. But if it can be trusted to largely call pandemic policy correctly, what's left of the radical critique that the machine's very existence is intolerable exploitation? If we can trust the man to implement a stay-at-home order, do we really need the revolution?

It's a question a lot of the radical left in America have been struggling to answer throughout the pandemic. Their basic approach to COVID-19 was not all that different from the elite consensus of paying people to stay home and wait out the virus. The original anti-lockdown protests were an almost exclusively right-wing affair. And when leftists did dispense with pandemic protocols during the George Floyd protests of summer 2020, mainstream liberals largely nodded in agreement.

It's a similar story with rock music generally. Except for some old fogies with a history of right-wing politicking (like Eric Clapton), once rebellious musicians seem to have largely accepted pandemic restrictions that made so much of their industry illegal. Even when the fans were ready to ditch their masks, some performers demanded the crowds keep them on.

If radical left-wing politics and rock music have both largely accepted the COVID-19 security state, I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising that the band that's best fused both has as well. It doesn't make its music any less amazing, even if it does deflate the seriousness of its message.

Just…rage.

Never thought we’d see Rage back together again. Wife and I are lifelong fans and we jumped at the opportunity when their tour was announced - a little wedding anniversary present to ourselves. After two years of shutdown, the fellas came through at the perfect time. In no particular order, this will forever remain in our top three concert experiences ever. RATM absolutely ROCKED IT in Raleigh!!

Loved seeing them live last year in Pitt. Helluva show

Unbelievable

I have not experienced such energy during a live concert. Wven with his injury. Back to back non stop songs, so much talent, great graphics, great energy, great line up!csnt wait for them to perfoem live again near me.

Best show ever!

From the first note till they carried Zak off the stage we were on our feet dancing, bobbing, hopping & shaking our heads , hands & feet. Great show. I cant wait to see them again!

Best show of my life

I saw them on August 14 at Madison square garden. When they played bullet in the head and bulls on Parade. I nearly cried. It was such an emotional moment for me, and I’ll never forget that greatest show of my life.

The most explosive display of musical energy

The entire arena was electrified by RATM's music. I was worried that Zach being sidelined by his ACL injury would impact their performance, but if anything, it amplified it. I felt like all of us concert attendees became one cohesive organism moving to the rhythm that Brad Wilk set. The acoustics were amazing, the lights and background images were powerful. I'm so grateful I had the chance to see this band perform live. Nothing will ever compare to this experience. Absolutely nothing.

AWESOME!!!!!

The absolute best shows EVER!!!! Saw Rage 3X at MSG. Cannot emphasize how incredible the shows were. It was 1992 all over again. Great crowd and of course MSG is the place to be for a concert. All of the members of the band were so on point and rocked the Garden so hard. Zach de la Rocha was seated due to an injury, but he may as well have been standing up, he was so incredible to watch. I cannnot wait to see RATM again. Tom, Brad, Zach and Tim annihilated the competition during those 5 days. Wow!!

Amazing Show!

Superb performance by RATM! I was looking forward to seeing them for 20 years. Well worth the wait. Must see if they come to your town.

First time at Madison Square Gardens and I was blown away by this stadium and the delightful staff. A quick cab ride there and we walked on in after a security check. The concert itself was epic and our seats were great. Rage delivered an energetic and passionate performance that left me smiling for hours after. Caught a cab ride outside the stadium with no problem. Great night.

unbelievable show

They sounded better in the Garden now then they did at Roseland 25 years ago. Amazing show

“I know a lot o people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the canceled RATM shows,” he wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, Jan. 3. “I don’t want to string people along any further. So while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future … I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”

He captioned the post: “Bottom of my heart … Thank you to every person who has ever supported us.”

Shirley Manson of rock band Garbage weighed in on Instagram, replying, “Oh Brad. I am crushed to hear this. I hope you are all ok. Sending you much love and gratitude for the incredible music. I shall look forward to whatever you chose to do next with your considerable talents. Sx.”

ALT/FM 98.7 show host Ted Stryker commented: “Brad, thank you for the awesome music and best live concerts I’ve ever been to!”

After postponing a couple of times due to the pandemic and then touring conflicts, the band did hit the road for a short stint in 2022, but vocalist Zack de la Rocha suffered a leg injury during a stop in Chicago that ended up sidelining the remainder of the tour.

The Los Angeles based rock band, consisting of de la Rocha, Wilk, guitarist Tom Morello and bassist Tim Commerford , formed in 1991 and were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. Only Morello showed up to the ceremony to mark the occasion.

After releasing successful albums including its self-titled album in 1992, 1996’s “Evil Empire,” 1999’s “The Battle of Los Angeles” and its final studio album, “Renegades,” in 2000, the group disbanded. The band reunited in 2007 and headlined the final day of Coachella. They took extended breaks in the years that followed and all of the members sans de la Rocha, formed Prophets of Rage alongside Public Enemy’s Chuck D and B-Real of Cypress Hill in 2016. Three years later, they put that project to bed.

Rage Against the Machine announced it would be back in 2020 and would perform for the first time in nine years at Coachella. However, the pandemic shut that down. In 2022, the band played its first concert together in 11 years in Wisconsin and embarked on a US tour. After de la Rocha’s injury, additional tour dates were canceled.

Rage Against the Machine ‘will not be touring or playing live again,’ says drummer

"I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was," Brad Wilk wrote on Instagram.

Rage Against the Machine will definitely not be doing what you tell them — because they have broken up once again.

The band’s drummer Brad Wilk confirmed on Instagram that the nu-metal group has no plans to reunite on stage, despite previous plans for a reunion tour.

“I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the canceled RATM shows,” Wilk wrote on Instagram. “I don’t want to string people or myself along any further. So while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”

The group had previously announced a worldwide reunion tour that was slated to take place in 2020; however, the pandemic forced the group to postpone all their upcoming shows multiple times. In July 2022, Rage Against the Machine finally took the stage together for the first time since 2011 — but they only played a handful of shows in July and August before singer Zack de la Rocha tore his Achilles tendon, forcing the band to reschedule the remaining tour dates. Now, it seems those postponed dates will never be fulfilled.

Rage was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November; however, only guitarist Tom Morello attended the ceremony.

This isn’t the first time the group has called it quits. de la Rocha left the band in 2000, and the remaining members joined forces with Chris Cornell to form Audioslave. Rage eventually reunited in 2007. The group then went on unofficial hiatus in 2011.

Rage Against the Machine Fans Are Confused by the Band’s Latest Instagram Post

Rage Against the Machine fans are confused by the band's latest Instagram post. And so are we.

The rock and metal world kind of feels like a big game of clue as of late, with musicians sharing cryptic posts and mysterious teasers on their social media profiles left and right. We're all looking into things very intensely, perhaps more than we should, because sometimes these types of posts lead to something, and sometimes they don't. Sleep Token are a good example of this, as a lot has transpired within their community over the last couple of days just before announcing a new North American tour.

Just a few weeks after drummer Brad Wilk shared a statement confirming the end of Rage Against the Machine's touring days , the band posted a photo on their Instagram yesterday (Jan. 18) that shows a black silhouette of them performing in front of a red background with the song "Wake Up" playing over it. They credited videographer Hate5six as having taken the image.

Wilk also shared the same photo shortly after on his own page, and wrote, "What he said..." in the caption. A couple of fans commented that they didn't see frontman Zack de la Rocha in the photo, and questioned whether that had any meaning.

"Look for the [microphone emoji] n cord," the drummer responded to one individual who thought the singer was missing from the picture.

Another fan commented, "This is really strange. What are they doing? Giving the signal ZDLR is the issue? Seems unnecessary. Sad way to end."

"Nah you're way off. This is celebrating an end of an era," Wilk replied.

Over on the Rage Against the Machine Reddit , fans are discussing what they think the post could be indicative of. One person noted that Hate5six had recorded a couple of the band's performances, and hopes that the post means that they'll be releasing one of them on video.

"This could be something," someone else commented on the thread. "Considering how pissed Brad seemed the other day about Rage now posting something cool about them looking back on that tour. Considering how bitter he seemed about the whole thing maybe something is happening."

"I hate being a Rage fan. Being kept in the dark is just friggin torture. But I’ll keep being a Rage fan," another person said.

READ MORE:  How Did Rage Against the Machine Get Their Name?

"I think he’s just telling people to wake up," another comment states, noting the chosen song playing on the post. "That is one cold ass picture tho."

It's possible that the photo could have an underlying message tied to it, or it's possible that, as Wilk said, it's just a celebration of the end of the band as we know it. Time will tell.

Rage Against the Machine 2023 Concert and Festival Dates

According to the latest updates, Rage Against the Machine  already canceled their 2022 and 2023 tour date s. But we hope they will return to the stage this year. This return probably happens this Summer or Fall of 2023 for sure.

Sadly, the last chance to watch live in the Rage Against the Machine reunion tour has passed for now. Rage Against the Machine’s reunion tour will begin on July 9th in East Troy, WI, rather than on March 31st in El Paso, TX. Only half of the 38-show tour has been postponed indefinitely. Rage Against the Machine, on the other hand, announced new dates for February, March, and April 2023.

When you asked, “Why did Rage Against the Machine cancel their current tour?”

During the North American leg’s second concert. On July 11th, 2022, in Chicago. We watched Zack de la Rocha injure his leg onstage and leave for a brief while before returning to the stage seated.

“I don’t know what happened to my leg right now,” Zack de la Rocha said of the injury night. We’re going to keep this crap going. This stage is crawlable for me. Tonight we’re going to play for you all.”

Here is also Zack De La Rocha’s press statement about canceling the 2023 tour dates so far:

“It’s been almost three months since Chicago, and I still look down at my leg in disbelief. Two years of waiting through the pandemic, hoping we would have an opening to be a band again and continue the work we started 30 some odd years ago. Rehearsing, training, reconciling, working our way back to form. Then one and a half shows into it and my tendon tears. Felt like a sick joke the universe played on me. As I write this I remind myself it’s just bad circumstance. Just a f***** up moment.

Unfortunately it is a moment that requires a lot of work and healing. I have a sever tear in my left Achilles tendon and only 8% of my tendon was left intact. And even that portion was severely compromised. It’s not simply a question of being able to perform again, but extends to basic functionality going forward. That’s why I’ve made the painful and difficult decision to cancel the remaining shows on our 2023 North American leg.

I hate cancelling shows. I hate disappointing our fans. You have all waited so patiently to see us and that is never lost on me. I never take that for granted. For you, I have the ultimate gratitude and respect.

To my brothers Tim, Brad, and Tom; to El P, Killer Mike, Trackstar, and the whole RTJ crew; to everyone on our production team: techs, cooks, drivers, assistants, security squad, to anyone and everyone who made the shows thus far possible, all my love and respect. I hope to see you very soon.”

2024 Wells Fargo Championship live stream, watch online, TV schedule, channel, tee times, golf coverage, radio

One week and one big-time event separate players from the second major championship of the season.

wells-fargo-championship-flag-g.jpg

An elevated purse, additional FedEx Cup points and one last trophy before the PGA Championship are all up for grabs this week at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship. With 69 of the best players on the PGA Tour and many of those names who aim to factor in a week's time at Valhalla in the field, the Wells Fargo Championship is likely to produce a major championship-type leaderboard on a major championship-type test.

Quail Hollow once again hosts the Wells Fargo Championship as it has done so in the past, including last year when Wyndham Clark broke through for his first career PGA Tour victory. Clark has since transformed into a completely different golfer winning the U.S. Open later that year and has since tacked on this year's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am while consistently contending in these signature events.

While Clark was the top man a year ago, Rory McIlroy has been on that perch over the last decade or so. Three times a winner at Quail Hollow and fresh off his 25th career PGA Tour victory and 35th birthday, the four-time major champion hopes to continue this upward trajectory ahead of his return to Valhalla -- the site of his last major championship triumph in 2014.

McIlroy's drought consists of major championships, but that of Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Young consists of PGA Tour wins. This lot has combined to get shutout over the last two years and will hope to breakthrough for a much-needed title in Charlotte.

Masters contenders Collin Morikawa and Max Homa plan to tee it up while Hideki Matsuyama and Viktor Hovland round out the action at Quail Hollow.

Live from Paris: Taylor Swift adds 'Tortured Poets' songs to Eras Tour in France

PARIS, France — The Chairman jump-started her tour after a two-month hiatus, and anticipation was high over whether Taylor Swift would incorporate her 11th era album into the Eras Tour set at La Défense Arena on Thursday.

She did and then some.

Swift extended the set list by one track to land at 46 songs. But many changes were made along the way. She added a new era for "The Tortured Poets Department," cut a handful of songs and rearranged most of the eras including combining the sets for "Folklore" and "Evermore."

She also debuted a number of new outfits along the way.

Delivering all the updates were Bryan West, the USA TODAY Network's full-time Taylor Swift reporter, from inside La Défense Arena in Paris, with Swiftie and trending reporter Anthony Robledo assisting from his desk.

We hereby present the minutes from the first Eras Tour meeting in Paris, France.

More: Taylor Swift unveils new Eras Tour set list in Paris

'Midnights' set follows secret songs

Swift stuck to her original set list for the "Midnights" era by singing "Lavender Haze," "Anti-Hero" and "Midnight Rain." She ended the night with a triumphant rendition of "Karma" as usual.

'loml' is second secret song

Fans got one more taste of "The Tortured Poets Department" when Swift played the heartbreaking song "loml" on the piano during her secret set.

'Paris' is a secret song, of course

Swift started her secret set with "Paris," a bonus song from her "Midnights" album.

'Tortured Poets' set list

Swift played these songs from her newest album:

  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "So High School"
  • "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me"
  • "Fortnight"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart"

New 'Tortured Poets' set is here

Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.

Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.

A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.

“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.

She quickly segued into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She quickly performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, recorded harmony played concluding the song.

Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit.

“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.

New '1989' outfit

Swift never goes out of Style. During her “1989” set, she debuted a new, sequined outfit of blue and pink. Her sparkly shoes matched with a different colored heel on each. For the bridge of “Blank Space,” the crowd started chanting in Sydney, Australia, “Syd-ney” as a nod to the 1989 World Tour concert movie where Swift would chant the name of the city she was in after hitting a pole with a club two times. Singapore followed the chant and Taylor Nation tweeted they want every city to incorporate the fan-fueled chant. In Paris, thousands chanted “Par-ee,” the French way to say the capital city.

Swift made no cuts to the "1989" set.

Four songs cut from 'Folklore' and 'Evermore'

The new set list cut four tracks from the "Folklore" and "Evermore" eras:

  • "'Tis the Damn Season"
  • "Tolerate It"
  • "The Last Great American Dynasty"

The combined set included eight songs altogether and wrapped up with "Willow."

'Folkmore' set debuts

Swift revealed she merged the 2020 pandemic albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” into one section. She told fans she wrote “Folklore” to represent spring and summer with “Evermore” representing fall and winter in what she always considered sister albums.

“On the Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter,” she said. “You can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing ‘Champagne Problems’ with me.”

'Folklore' set: 'Cardigan' makes the cut

Many fans had speculated "Cardigan" would be cut from the set list. But Swift actually moved it to the top of the "Folklore" set.

Up next: 'Reputation'

Swift kicked off her fifth set with "Ready for It?"

Another surprise: 'Speak Now' era comes fourth

Swift updated her "Speak Now" set with an intro dance featuring Raphael Thomas and eight other dancers wearing flowy purple dresses. She then sang "Enchanted."

Fan favorite track "Long Live" was cut from the set list.

Order of eras changed

After a fairly routine "Fearless" set, Swift altered her concert by including the “Red” era third instead of the expected “Evermore” set. Previously, "Red" came fifth.

With a new shirt that read “This Is Not Taylor’s Version,” the singer performed "22" and showed her audience that they needed to leave any expectations at home.

The relocated "Red" set included the same four songs: "22," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)."

Beflore playing “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” Swift talked about bringing all of her favorite memories to France. She did her 2019 “Lover” live show here but hadn’t brought a tour to the country since the Speak Now World Tour 13 years ago.“I cannot thank you enough. I’m so moved," she said.

Follow along with set list changes here .

First set list change

Swift cut "The Archer" from her "Lover" set before beginning her "Fearless" set in a silver and black minidress as opposed to her classic gold one. A graphic showed her "Lover" house with a new addition in the attic for "The Tortured Poets Department." Her "Fearless" set remained the same with "Fearless," "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story."

More: Taylor Swift's 'Love Story' castle will soon host weddings

'Je m'appelle Taylor'

In her monologue before playing the song "Lover," Swift said the night would span 18 years of music. Previously, the concert covered 16 years. Get ready for a "The Tortured Poets Department" addition some time tonight.

She confirmed the tour would still go era by era, and also spoke about how Paramore is a band she idolized since she was a teenager. She ended with some French: "Je m'appelle Taylor."

First new outfit

Swift debuted a new, orange bodysuit and jacket for the "Lover" set.

Snippet of 'Tortured Poets' in intro

A snippet of the song "The Tortured Poets Department" was included in the intro music Swift kicks the concert off with. Is she foreshadowing other changes ahead? It seems likely.

Taylor Swift takes the stage

Swift took the stage about 8 p.m. in Paris (2 p.m. ET) to relaunch her Eras Tour in Europe. She kicked it off with a countdown clock and the Lesley Gore song "You Don't Own Me" as usual. Then she began her "Lover" set with "Miss Americana."

Paramore covers Blondie, Talking Heads in Paris set list

At the Paris show Thursday, Paramore energized fans with eight tracks including their cover off the upcoming “Stop Making Sense” tribute album out May 17 featuring artists like Miley Cyrus and Lorde.

Debuting a blond mullet, lead singer Hayley Williams encouraged fans to dance without fear of judgment ahead of Swift’s performance.

“Enjoy your time with Miss Taylor, we will see you next time,” Williams said.

Paramore's set list included:

  • "Hard Times"
  • "Burning Down the House" (Talking Heads cover)
  • "Caught in the Middle"
  • “Brick by Boring Brick”
  • “The Only Exception”
  • “That’s What You Get”
  • “Ain't It Fun”
  • “This Is Why”

Paramore begins their set

At about 6:45 p.m. in Paris (12:45 p.m. ET), Paramore began their set, officially restarting the second year of the historic Eras Tour. Lead singer Hayley Williams sported a new, blond mullet hairdo.

Paramore opens European leg of Eras Tour

The American rock band is joining Swift on her European leg of 51 shows. Paramore also opened the show for two nights in Glendale, Arizona, in 2023. Their setlist then included nine songs:

  • "This Is Why"
  • "That’s What You Get"
  • "The Only Exception"
  • "Still Into You"
  • "Rose-Colored Boy"
  • "Misery Business"
  • "Ain’t It Fun"

Where to watch the Eras Tour livestreams

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. Livestream Queen Tess Bohne has spearheaded the "Great War" to find fans going live on social media and broadcasting a custom show to tens of thousands of fans almost every night on her account @tessdear .

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the 3-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app also sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has had an acoustic set she customizes every stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mash-ups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
  • "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks

Bienvenue dans le 'Eras Tour'

Macklemore's pro-Palestine rap Hind's Hall has got social media buzzing

Publicity photo of Macklemore wearing a pressed jacket against grey background

US rapper Macklemore , best known for his Hottest 100 and chart-topping hits Thrift Shop and Same Love, is being applauded online for the release of a new protest song called Hind's Hall.

The tough, pro-Palestine track, which samples Ana La Habibi by popular Lebanese singer Fairuz, is delivered in solidarity with US students protesting for ceasefire in Gaza.

The song's title references the Columbia University campus building, officially known as Hamilton Hall but christened ''Hind's Hall' by occupying student protesters last week in tribute to Hind Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza .

"If students in tents posted on the lawn Occupying the quad is really against the law And a reason to call in the police and their squad Where does genocide land in your definition, huh?"

These are the lyrics Macklemore raps, referring to the Los Angeles Police Department crackdown against protests.

"Once it's up on streaming all proceeds to UNRWA," the Seattle artist wrote of the new track online, referring to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, which is supporting Palestinians in Gaza and elsewhere.

"What if you were in Gaza? What if those were your kids?" he raps in the closing bars.  "If the West was pretendin' that you didn't exist/ You'd want the world to stand up and the students finally did."

Macklemore blasts President Biden and music peers

Rapping over video footage — showing everything from police and protestors clashing to Israeli soldiers and children on-ground in Gaza — Macklemore criticises President Joe Biden's response to the conflict:

"The blood is on your hands, Biden, we can see it all And f**k no, I'm not votin' for you in the fall."

In the closing verses, he also rebukes his music industry peers for staying quiet on the issue.

"Complicit in their platform of silence," he raps. "What happened to the artist? What do you got to say? If I was on a label, you could drop me today I'd be fine with it cause the heart fed my page."

He also sneaks in a jab at Drake and the Canadian rapper's ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar that has consumed social media in recent weeks, aggressively rapping:

"I want a ceasefire, f**k a response from Drake."

portrait of Macklemore wearing a singlet and gold jewelry with his left hand to his chin

Elsewhere in the song, Macklemore calls out the US government's proposed ban on TikTok ("It's too late … [We've] seen the rubble, the buildings, the mothers and the children.").

He also rejects calls labelling anti-Zionism as anti-Semitic ("I've seen Jewish brothers and sisters out there and ridin' in solidarity and screamin' 'Free Palestine' with them").

The internet reacts

Responses to Macklemore's new song have generally been positive, praising him for stepping up and using his platform to speak out.

Some unlikely high praise came from Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who favourably compared Hind's Hall to his group's famously fiery, political anthems.

"He's out here raising awareness of an in-progress genocide for an audience who might not be clued in, who you and I probably can't reach," commented Chris Walla, music producer and former member of indie rock favourites Death Cab For Cutie.

"That is absolutely real work, I have so much respect for it."

Australian singer-songwriters Angie McMahon and Montaigne praised the song and shared it with their social media followers.

"I genuinely find Macklemore's care really moving," Montaigne wrote on X "Esp[ecially] when he didn't have a clue about all this less than a year ago (like me)."

"This is very powerful. Thank you for creating this, Macklemore," Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein wrote on X .

Similarly, Independent presidential candidate and philosopher Cornel West reacted : "I salute my brother Macklemore using his powerful artistry to tell some painful truths!"

Many took a humorous slant, referencing Macklemore's polarising 2012 novelty hit Thrift Shop , which topped triple j's Hottest 100 and dominated charts worldwide.

Others noted Macklemore's history of progressive politics and activism.

However, not everyone is impressed.

Several X users have pointed towards a 2014 scandal where Macklemore was accused of anti-Semitism after wearing a fake nose, hair, and prosthetic nose many called a Jewish caricature at an event in Seattle.

"Just a reminder, Macklemore is the guy who wore this on stage and the Seattle ADL defended him afterward. Hope they feel good about that now," wrote one X user .

"You're telling me this guy recorded an anti-Zionist song? Never saw it coming," another wrote sarcastically.

Responding to the backlash in a blog post at the time, the rapper said he had no intention of dressing like a "Jewish stereotype" and apologised for having offended anyone.

This isn't the first time Macklemore has gotten political

The Grammy-winning rapper's 2012 single Same Love voiced support for same-sex marriage and criticised hip hop's historic homophobia.

Macklemore played the song at the 2017 NRL Grand Final, despite a petition to ban its performance, and the track later topped the Australian charts .

The rapper's 2016 track White Privilege II , featuring Jamila Woods, also stirred controversy.

An anti-racist statement that inserted Macklemore into the Black Lives Matter conversation after being accused of cultural appropriation , US publication  Slate declared "it isn't a great song, but as a think piece it's not terrible."

Macklemore has also spoken out against the war in Gaza several times before.

In October, he issued an Instagram statement saying he was educating himself on the conflict but was in support of "people around the world who are calling for a ceasefire." Then, on 4 November, he spoke at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Washington, DC .

In December, Macklemore further addressed his stance in concert, criticising the alleged misuse of American tax dollars.

"When I say Free Palestine, it's not against anyone. It actually means we should protect everyone," he said in an Instagram Reel post.

"It means equality for all, respect, peace, and love. It means the right to exist, regardless of what sector you're from… There's innocent humans out in Gaza getting murdered with our dollars, and those precious human lives are an extension of us."
