The Seabourn Quest cruise ship is one of the most luxurious in the world. It’s a small ship that has a club-like ambience and staff who pride themselves on delivering intuitive service. When I reviewed Seabourn Quest I discovered gourmet restaurants and chic bars, as well as sophisticated entertainment. Not to mention luxury, all-suite accommodation.

However, there are things worth knowing about a cruise vacation on Seabourn Quest. For instance, there are fewer dining venues than you might find on larger cruise ships. On the other hand Seabourn Quest’s intimacy lends itself to impeccable, personalised service.

  • Outstanding service.
  • Gourmet meals.
  • Sophisticated entertainment.
  • Limited number of dining venues.

The Seabourn Quest deck plan is easy to get around. There are a total of 10 passenger decks, the highest of which is deck 11.

  • Reception : Deck 7
  • Accommodation : Decks 4 to 10
  • Main dining room : Deck 4
  • Theatre : Deck 6
  • Observation lounge : Deck 10

It is worth noting that the forward elevator should be used to access the Observation Lounge, while the water sports marina is accessed via Deck 2.

The Seabourn Quest cruise ship is an Odyssey-class vessel belonging to Seabourn Cruises . Seabourn Quest was built in Italy by the shipbuilder T. Mariotti and entered service in June 2011. It is 195 m. / 650 ft. long with 11 passenger decks and has room for just 450 guests (double occupancy), so it never feels crowded.

The whirlpool tub on the bow of Seabourn Quest.

Seabourn Quest was refurbished in 2018 with a fresh decor in the public areas and suites, as well as enhancements to the onboard spa.

Indeed, the intimate vessel is designed to feel like a private yacht with teak decks, stylish bars, fine dining and gracious suites. There is even a retractable marina at the stern.

The restaurants on Seabourn Quest may be few in number, but the award-winning venues are comparable to the finest restaurants the world over.

Seabourn Quest has a chic main dining room, a Michelin-star inspired steakhouse, a terrace buffet and a poolside eatery. There is also a cafe for light snacks and refreshments.

The Grill by Thomas Keller restaurant on Seabourn Quest.

The main dining room is The Restaurant . I rate it as the best dining venue on Seabourn Quest. The menu showcases innovative culinary trends and gastronomic classics. What’s more the menu changes daily. On my review voyage there was an exceptional Roasted Qual & Spiced Figs with Caramelized Fennel, Salsify Ragout, Pomegranate & Poultry Jus. Not to mention tempting desserts like Strawberry Soup & White Chocolate Parfait with Fresh Berries Pistachio Crostini & Crackers.

Strawberry Soup & White Chocolate Parfait.

The Grill by Thomas Keller is an art deco-style American steakhouse. The menu, inspired by Michelin-starred chef Thomas Keller, includes an exceptionally good Roasted Free Range Chicken & Thyme Jus which takes two days to prepare. It serves two people.

The Colonnade is a casual buffet restaurant on the Seabourn Quest cruise ship. The buffet continues to set the at-sea standard for outstanding food quality and presentation. There is also daytime poolside dining at The Patio buffet. In the evening the venue becomes Earth & Ocean at The Patio with an array of inventive dishes served à la carte, including Seabass with Eryngii Mushrooms, Stir Fried Super Greens, Toasted Garlic & Wasabi Lime Butter.

The Seabourn Square on deck 7 has a tempting selection of savoury snacks and pâtisserie, as well as gourmet coffee and teas.

The nightlife on Seabourn Quest is stylish and sophisticated. A talented pianist entertains in the Observation Bar and a band play sets in The Club, where there is also a late night disco.

A performer in the Grand Salon theatre on Seabourn Quest.

The Grand Salon is the theatre on Seabourn Quest. It plays host to production shows like the highly regarded “An Evening With Sir Tim Rice”, as well as guest entertainers.

All the rooms on Seabourn Quest are suites and every one has an ocean view. The least expensive suites have a picture window, rather than a veranda.

A spacious Veranda Suite on Seabourn Quest.

I stayed in a Veranda Suite on my Seabourn Quest review voyage. These suites are the most popular on board. They are wonderfully spacious with a marble bathroom that has a separate soaking tub and shower. What’s more, there’s a luxurious teak veranda with outdoor furniture.

For those who like even more space the Seabourn Quest cruise ship also has larger suites with separate bedrooms and living areas, like the stylish Penthouse Suite.

Every room on Seabourn Quest has a Suite Host and Suite Attendant who create an atmosphere of comfort and luxury. On my voyage the Suite Host actively sought to create so-called ‘Seabourn Moments’; bespoke memorable experiences. It helped make my voyage extra special. The Suite Hosts are there to indulge, whether it be drawing a relaxing bath or arranging an in-suite cocktail party.

The small Seabourn Quest has a big range of fitness and relaxation services . There is a well equipped gym with rooms for pilates and yoga. The ship has two pools; I especially enjoyed the solitude of the aft facing pool. There is also a whirlpool with a magnificent position atop the bow. Not to mention the Sun Terrace.

The aft-facing pool on Seabourn Quest.

The Seabourn Spa & Wellness centre is a partnership with best-selling author Dr. Andrew Weil. It is the first of its kind at sea and offers indulgent massage and beauty treatments, as well as mindful living guidance and even acupuncture.

Unfortunately, Seabourn Quest does not have a dedicated jogging track. So most guests used the open space on deck 5 to jog or power-walk.

Seabourn Quest has the usual shipboard activities including lectures from guest speakers, bridge and team trivia. There are also deck sports including golf, table tennis and shuffleboard.

Seabourn Quest also has wellness and mindfulness seminars, as well as complimentary walk-in hair consultations. There are ladies pamper parties, afternoon teas and even caviar sail-away parties too.

In addition, there are get-togethers for friends of Dorothy, friends of Bill W and solo cruisers.

The boutiques on Seabourn Quest are known as The Shops and they sell designer apparel, fragrances and jewellery.

All the activities on Seabourn Quest are in the daily Herald newsletter. Though it’s worth noting this is no longer printed, rather it is available through the Seabourn Source app.

There are lots of different shore excursions available on the Seabourn Quest cruise ship. These include panoramic bus tours, speedboat trips, epicurean adventures, bike rides and bespoke private limousine journeys. Though it has to be said, some shore excursions can be significantly better than others. What’s more, cost doesn’t always reflect the quality of the excursion.

The Seabourn Quest at anchor in Croatia.

For instance, when I reviewed Seabourn Quest there was an enjoyable tour into the country side with lunch at a farm. Whereas a more expensive speedboat trip to an overcrowded Croatian beach proved somewhat disappointing.

Editor’s tip: Seabourn offer shore excursions to UNESCO World Heritage sites around the world. These are often the best shore excursions.

Shore excursions can be purchased online in advance of your cruise. You can also purchase shore excursions once you get on board.

The Seabourn Quest dress code is smart and stylish, but on my review voyage it was never stuffy. Guests wear casual resort-style clothing during the day, but it’s worth noting that swimwear is not acceptable in any of the restaurants.

After dark there are two different dress codes: Elegant Casual and Formal .

Elegant Casual

Women wear slacks, skirts, and blouses. Men wear slacks and a collared shirt (jacket optional).

Women wear evening gowns while men wear Tuxedos or suits.

It’s worth noting that the Formal dress code only applies to The Restaurant . Dress in other dining venues is always Elegant Casual. The number of formal nights varies depending on the cruise duration. Voyages of up to 13-days have one formal night. Cruises lasting 14- to 20-days have two formal nights, while longer voyages have three.

The Seabourn Quest cruise ship is all-inclusive. That means all meals, fine wines, Champagne and spirits are part of your cruise fare. Also included in a Seabourn Quest cruise fare are non-alcoholic beverages, specialty coffee and teas.

Editor’s tip: You can purchase premium alcoholic beverages, but on my review voyage the house wines and spirits were excellent.

Gratuities are also included in the cruise fare; in fact tipping isn’t expected.

A Seabourn Quest cruise fare also includes shuttle bus transfers from the port to town when it is not nearby. Guests also get a smart Seabourn tote bag, plus exclusive Molton Brown bath products.

Seabourn Quest has a loyal following. Indeed, on my review voyage many passengers were return guests.

They are usually discerning and experienced cruisers who range in age from 40 to 70-years old.

Most guests are from the USA and the UK, however Australians, Canadians and Europeans are also onboard.

It’s worth noting that Seabourn Quest is gay-friendly.

The Seabourn Quest cruise ship is ideal for those who enjoy an indulgent cruise vacation. The ship is ultra-luxury, but it never feels pretentious. Indeed, the service is genuinely warm and intuitive. I also thought the dining was outstanding, though some may find the choice of restaurants limiting. All things considered I think Seabourn Quest offers an exceptional cruise experience.

Have just returned from two weeks on the Seabourn Quest. Re the Herald and the dining menus: They are still printed, but only if you request a printed copy and they are delivered each evening to the suite. Wonderful trip wonderful ship.

Only one complaint – we are elderly & do not use mobile phone apps. Because we didn’t have Seabourn Source we missed a Formal Night & a shore tour where the time was changed. Almost everyone seemed to be clasping a mobile phone, PLEASE get back to proper communication.

An Honest Review of the Jurassic Quest Experience – From a Mom of 7

By: Author Janessa

Posted on Last updated: February 4, 2024

family at Jurassic Quest with a text overlay that says,

This past weekend we took our 7 children (ages 1-13) to check out Jurassic Quest . It was our first time attending and now I wanted to share my honest review of the experience with you.

family standing outside Jurassic Quest

What Is Jurassic Quest?

Jurassic Quest is an experience event that travels throughout the US, setting up a huge dinosaur experience for kids to enjoy. Jurassic Quest events are open for 3 days (Friday-Sunday) before packing up and heading to a new city.

We attended Jurrasic Quest at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia.

Jurassic Quest Activities

Activities at Jurassic Quest

Some of the activities available to children while attending are:

  • Realistic, life-size, animatronic dinosaurs
  • Dinosaur-themed inflatables
  • Dig for fossils
  • Ride life-sized, mechanical dinosaurs
  • Take part in a dinosaur training exercise
  • Pet a baby dinosaur
  • Dinosaur crafts
  • Green screen photos (extra charge)
  • Face painting

What the Online Reviews Say

Jurassic Quest agreed to send me tickets for our family to check it out so I could write this post. After telling my kids the exciting news I started to look at more info about this event online and the reviews.

To be honest, what I saw had me concerned. There were multiple reviews saying that the event wasn’t worth the cost, the animatronics were not in good shape, the show was not as big as it once was, ect.

dinosaurs at Jurassic Quest

Of course, there were other reviews talking about how much the family enjoyed the show. It was a toss-up!

I had already told my kids though and they certainly wanted to go, so I decided we would go with an open mind and check it out ourselves.

Our Family’s Experience at Jurassic Quest

We went to Jurassic Quest on a Friday, arriving around 11:45am. I was happy to see that it wasn’t overly busy.

When you first walk through the Jurassic Quest gates you’ll be greeted by Jurassic Quest’s many animatronics. We walked through those for a few minutes and then decided to try some of the activities, figuring it would get busier as the day went on.

Dinosaur at Jurassic Quest

My kids tried out just about every activity Jurassic Quest offered. They rode the dinosaurs, jumped in the inflatables, dug for fossils, and even watched the dinosaur trainer performance.

For sure, their favorite activity was one that actually, many people and children seemed to just pass by. It was a special area where you were timed to see how fast you could run. It wasn’t large (maybe an 8-yard dash, give or take a yard or two) but my kids LOVED it!

Jurassic Quest running exhibit

They ran it over and over and over again, always wanting to beat their best high score. My son Jacob’s was best, in the 1.3 second range. He was so proud!

I expected the event to be packed by the time we left, close to 3pm, but it wasn’t too busy at all. The crowd had increased slightly but it was barley noticeable.

The Things We Liked About the Jurassic Quest Experience

There was a large variety of activities for my kids to participate in. The employees were all kind and helpful.

The gentlemen who was in charge of manning the running activity was so friendly to my kids, despite the fact that they ran it over and over and over again. He seemed interested right along with them to see if they could beat their fastest speed.

boy running at Jurassic Quest

The event was clean and I even noted that at the inflatables the employees had sanitizing spray they were using periodically.

The Things We Didn’t Like About the Jurassic Quest Experience

As some of the online reviews noted, I did see that some of the animatronics were either damaged on the surface or no longer moving at all. If that’s your biggest draw for attending, I could see where that would be a big disappointment.

Jurassic Quest's Fossil Exhibit

Although my kids enjoyed the animatronics, they did not make any mention of the broken, damaged ones. So, if it wasn’t noticed by my kids (or didn’t bother them at least) then there’s a good chance it won’t affect the experience for your kids either.

Everything else appeared to be in good, working order.

boy with a dinosaur head at Jurassic Quest

I spoke with another mom who has been attending this event at this location for over 10 years. She said it has gotten smaller as the years have gone by (as some of the reviews had noted). If you have gone in years past, this may be your experience as well.

For us, since it was our first time ever, it didn’t feel small at all.

boy at Jurassic Quest

My Tips for Your Trip

We went on a Friday during the day and it wasn’t busy at all. I know two other families that went on a Sunday and heard that the event wasn’t too busy that day either.

Sunday was also a big football day (NFC and AFC Championship games) so that could have affected the Sunday crowd. It’s hard to say for sure.

Regardless, I would suggest planning your visit for one of those days if you can.

fossil dig at Jurassic Quest

You can take a stroller and I would recommend that if you have little ones. My three-year-old was intimidated at times by the large dinosaurs. He was happy to ride in the stroller but if we hadn’t had that I think he might have been clinging to our legs or wanting held.

They are digital payments only. Purchase your tickets online ahead of time and bring a credit card if you want to purchase items from their gift store.

Eat before you enter to event. As I mentioned above, my kids were having such a great time, we would have stayed longer if everyone wasn’t so hungry. I believe we could have re-entered but we were trying to beat rush hour traffic at that point so headed home.

Last Overall Thoughts on Jurassic Experience

We went a week ago to this event and my kids are still talking about it. Two of them even came up to me today, a week later, to ask when we could go again. I’d call that a success!

Is it an event my husband and I would go to together, just the two of us? No. It’s definitely an event designed for kids and not really adults. But it’s definitely something I’d take my kids to again!

My kids had a fabulous time and that’s really what matters! We’ll be planning to go again next time it’s here!

The stroller shown in this post is my Joovy Qool . I love that stroller for events like this! If you are looking for more fun experiences to do with your kids, make sure you take them to Great Wolf Lodge and, if you are local to the DC area, check out the Massanutten Water Park .

It seems like it was worth the trip despite some animatronics not working as well as they should. It is helpful to have thorough reviews with helpful hints to know the pros and cons.

About the company.

The art and craft of travel....

Since 1970 we’ve been exploring our world and sharing our discoveries with small groups of like-minded travellers. Whether you are travelling on an expert-led cultural or nature tour or on a fully customized Private Journey, there are a few key features we think tell our story of art and craft best:

Discovery & Enrichment

Our tours are designed for people with enquiring minds and a desire to learn from everything our world has to offer. We design almost all our tours ourselves, from scratch. This means we make sure to include opportunities for discovery within the specific themes we explore.

Experience & Passion

The team at our Toronto home base and in the field are a passionate group of travel enthusiasts. As a company we have over 40 years of touring under our belt. We regularly visit all our destinations and one of our team will be able to answer any question about your trip or get the answer for you.

Personal Service

Most of our travellers come to us from referrals or are repeat travellers, which we feel reflects well on the quality of our trips and service. We aim for careful attention to every aspect of your trip, from your first conversation, through administrative details, to getting your feedback on your travel experience.

Small Group Size

With the description of each tour, you will see the minimum and maximum number of participants. The cost of the tour is based on the minimum number of participants. In the unlikely event that the tour does not reach minimum registration, a small supplement may be charged or the tour may operate as a Private Journey. We hope you agree that the higher cost of smaller numbers is outweighed by the benefits of mobility, congeniality and enhanced learning.

We’re not dealing with widgets – we’re dealing with dreams. We respect your investment in your travels and are supremely conscious of our responsibility and the trust you have placed in us. The cost of our tours includes accommodation, most meals, transportation (including domestic flights where needed), all activities and presentations plus taxes and gratuities (as noted separately). You generally need only budget for your flights (and we’re here to help with those arrangements) and some personal spending.

Responsibility

We are committed to mindful, respectful, minimum-impact practices in our travels.

A word about accommodation

All the accommodation used for our land and sea programs has been visited, and often stayed in, by a member of our staff or by our local representative. While there is no such thing as a ‘standard’ Worldwide Quest hotel, we reliably favour comfort, service and an element of charm. As we are often in locations beyond the most developed areas, we do not limit our accommodation to hotels which offer the most modern of comforts, preferring accommodations that provide a real sense of place. Location, whether in the heart of the action or in the most remote areas, is a primary consideration.

These are just a few words about what's important to us. But it's what comes next that really matters. We invite you to call us and experience travel with Worldwide Quest.

TravelQuest Reviews

We have traveled with tq several times.

We have traveled with TQ several times and have been pleased every time. They really look after their guests and plan interesting activities in the region of the tour. All memorable experiences. I would give six stars but that one was eclipsed.

Thanks To TravelQuest

Thanks to TravelQuest I am enjoying this huge globe we call home. They pack your days with fun and food. Totalities and tours. Expeditions with excitement amongst the best assortment of world travelers. Lots of great and growing friendships are the culmination of every excursion. An eclipse is always a welcomed icing on the cake .

10th Eclipse Trip With TravelQuest

This was our 15th eclipse and our 10th eclipse trip with Travelquest, by my reckoning. They do a superb job of planning and executing the tours. Problems, and there are few visible, are dealt with usually proactively, so that we are left with no worries. Who knew there was so much to do around Perth ? And how did they find a hotel with “eclipse lights” on the stairway walls in the lobby? Michel Girardin as a Travelquest host is the best anywhere in the world–experienced and always looking out for his travellers’ interests to provide the best experience possible. Travelquest travellers are a well-educated, well-travelled and congenial lot. You can have a pleasant conversation on any number of topics with any of them. And they routinely understand the demands of group travel to be on time and get along. We look forward to our next TQ trip for the 2024 eclipse in Mexico.

Traveled With TravelQuest Many Times!

I have traveled with TravelQuest International many times and have always been very satisfied. My first expedition was in 2008 to the geographic North Pole and observing a total solar eclipse a week later. Since then I have traveled with TQ to Union Glacier, Antarctica to observe the total solar eclipse on Dec. 4, 2021 and many awesome points in between. Every tour has been well organized and so much fun. Meeting so many interesting people, catching up with old friends, and making new friendships make these tours so rewarding.

Luxury meets adventure in the Quest Kodiak

The Quest Kodiak is a difficult plane to describe because it’s so many things at once. If you are looking for a flying Swiss Army Knife that can carry pretty much do anything and everything you can think of and get you safely in and out of short rough fields in hard to reach places, this is your bird.

The Kodiak sits tall on the ramp. The feel is more airliner than little general aviation plane. The preflight inspection is pretty straightforward and unlike most other seaplanes, this one rarely involves pumping water out of the floats. This is because the Kodiak was designed with a clean sheet for water operations and because the Aerocet floats are made of carbon fibre and don’t leak at all. Kodiaks are corrosion-proofed, so saltwater operations, the bane of seaplanes, aren’t to be feared anymore.

Quest began designing this plane to bridge the gap between jets and helicopters. Jets can fly far and fast and helicopters can land anywhere, but are complex by nature and require intensive maintenance. They are slower too and usually can’t carry much. The solution is Quest’s Kodiak. There have been other seaplanes before and some very capable ones at that, but they either weren’t fast enough, couldn’t carry heavy loads, or were too big and didn’t have sufficient range. They often weren’t very comfortable or quiet enough and were limited by other constraints. The Kodiak doesn’t do everything perfectly but it is the perfect blend of compromises that designers always grapple with.

quest tour reviews

The Kodiak’s wingspan is designed with most jungle strip’s 50-foot widths in mind. It needs less than 1,000 feet of runway at max weight, because 1,000 feet is often the standard for unimproved strips in the wilderness. The Cessna Caravan is a great plane too, but it needs a wider strip. The Pilatus Porter isn’t as big or comfortable and piston-powered seaplanes aren’t as reliable. The big Pratt & Whitney PT6A-34 hanging upfront is about as reliable an engine as you’ll see. It was designed to keep running no matter what and requires as little maintenance as possible. It also consumes very little jet fuel, at about 45 gallons an hour at cruise. Unlike Avgas, jet fuel is easily available throughout the world and is also considerably cheaper than Avgas and safer to transport and store.

The Kodiak was designed with safety in mind and apart from a seriously overbuilt landing gear its wing design is actually patented. Its Discontinued Leading Edge wing is built to provide lift across most flight regimes and can sustain flight when most other wings would call it quits and stall. Even in a spin, pilots can maintain rudder control to safely exit the spin. It’s built to Part 23-55 standards, which are much stricter than former regulations. For instance, the seats are built to withstand 26G impacts vs 9Gs on older planes. 26G is far more realistic should the unthinkable happen. Fire protection is one more aspect Quest tackled and the Kodiak is built with this requirement in mind. The whole airframe rather than only the passenger area is built to newer and more stringent flammability standards.

The avionics are also installed with safety in mind. The Garmin G1000 Flightdeck is simply superb at dispensing situational awareness and the GFC700 three-axis autopilot greatly reduces workload and allows pilots to keep their eyes outside the cockpit where they belong. The autopilot has an emergency levelling switch if the pilot gets disoriented. There are two large PFD displays and one MFD. Each screen gets its information from its own ADHRS and pitot tube for extra redundancy. The very capable weather radar is particularly easy to operate and interpret. Coupled with a WX-500 Stormscope and integrated into the G1000 it give pilots a comprehensive view of thunderstorm activity in flight.

Most bushplanes are great at operating in the wilderness, but Kodiaks can come and go from backwoods to busy airports without ruffling feathers and upsetting controllers concerned about precise navigation and expediting jet departures and arrivals. The Jeppesen-enabled chartview option is particularly good at giving pilots amazing situational awareness. The plane’s position is clearly marked on the Multi Function Displays and makes approaches as easy as 1-2-3. The system greatly increases safety when taxiing in large and complex airports and is a great tool to avoid dangerous runway incursions.

The big question is how does it feel to fly in the back and the answer is pretty amazing. The ride is vibration-free and noticeably quiet. It’s not quite as quiet as a jet, but quiet enough not to require headsets thanks to inflatable door seals. The interior is either efficient business-like or corporate jet-like if you choose the Summit Interior option from the three interior options available. The Tundra is perfect for heavy use operations such as regional hops and heavy-duty work. The seats can be removed in about 30 seconds and all eight seats have headphone jacks. It’s functional yet more than comfortable. The next step up is the Timberline option. It’s a good option between the functionality of the Tundra and the Summit. It has plush carpeting and better seating and more soundproofing. The Summit interior is similar to a luxurious jet interior and is a popular option as well.

The ride is comfortable and the Kodiak rides through light turbulence with nary a protest. The high wing ensures a pleasant sweeping view at a relatively fast 160 knots and a miserly 45-gallon per hour fuel consumption. Some quick numbers: maximum ramp weight is 7,305lbs and useful load is 3,505lbs. Fuel capacity is 320 gallons. Stall speed is a low 60 knots. At max weight, the takeoff roll is 934ft and the ground roll is 765ft. The Kodiak is certified to 25,000ft. Maximum cruise speed is 174 knots at 12,00ft. Maximum range is 1,132 nautical miles at 135 knots. Maximum endurance is almost 10 hours in the air. The cabin is almost 16 ft long and 4 and half feet wide. There is an optional TKS anti-icing System good for about 2.5 hours in icing conditions.

Kodiak is fun to fly

Starting the engine is the standard Pratt & Whitney starting procedure. Taxiing a big and tall seaplane on a windy day demands some attention and a little finesse, but the Kodiak is remarkably easy to taxi in challenging conditions. Once cleared for takeoff and aligned with the runway, I advanced the throttle and the plane just flew itself off the West Palm Beach runway in less than 600 feet. Climb was strong and we levelled off at 2,000ft in about 80 seconds. We headed towards Lake Okeechobee to practice water operations. Mark Brown, Quest’s Chief Pilot took the first landing and it looked easy enough. We transferred control of the plane and I set up for takeoff. I held the yoke back and the plane quickly got on the step as soon as I eased back on the yoke. I rotated soon after and the Kodiak lifted off without any drama. It was eerily smooth and quiet considering we had a good one to two foot chop. I think the carbon floats are noticeably better than regular aluminium floats. They are also substantially lighter.

Who needs a Kodiak or a Kodiak on floats? This is the question I kept asking myself. In Botswana, the Ministry of the Environment, Wildlife and Tourism uses the aircraft with Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance equipment to survey wildlife and prevent poachers from endangering local species. A skydiving club and parachuting school in Brazil uses one to launch skydivers from 12,000ft out of a dirt strip. A luxury resort in the Inland Sea of Japan ferries guests from the airport to the resort in as little as 15 minutes. A trip that used to take an hour and a half by road is now made easy and stress-free with a Kodiak seaplane. Mission Aviation Fellowship affiliates in Ecuador used the Kodiak for disaster relief and to evacuate wounded after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8. The Kodiak was able to operate out of dirt strips in some of the most remote areas of the country.

“The adventure is back and it’s spelled Kodiak.”

The answer is anyone who needs to operate out of challenging environments but doesn’t want to compromise on safety and comfort. It’s the perfect bird for getting principals and guests to island resorts with either limited runways or no runway at all. It’s perfect for mining or logging operations, for ferrying personnel to oil fields, for corporate titans to reach their islands, mountain chalets, yachts or fishing and hunting lodges. The Kodiak can be defined by its incredible ability to reach across a wide range of categories and capabilities but one simple mantra-like sentence comes back after all is said and done: it’s fun! The Kodiak bridges bygone eras and times still in our future. It reminds me of Hemingway and lazy mornings fishing off a boat in the Florida Keys in pre-Castro Cuban azure clear waters. It makes me think of expeditions in jungles and deserts with pith helmets and harsh conditions by people driven to discover new frontiers. It reminds me of futuristic space-age technologies and safety enhancements we could only dream of 20 years ago.

Sea Quest Kayak Tour Reviews

Why choose sea quest.

Glad M. Avatar

We think you’ll find it interesting to read a few comments from veterans of our sea kayak tours. We present several kayak trip reviews on this page that depict our overall commitment to excellence.

I wanted to thank you for an excellent sea kayaking trip. My father and I enjoyed your friendly guides and seeing the killer whales, porpoises, and other creatures at home in the wild. Happy summer. I’m sure I’ll see you again! Lisa Larrabee, Sacramento, CA
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the guide Chris was not only highly informed, but he was also a wonderful cook and a great kayaking partner. He was able to identify all the breathtaking wildlife we encountered and tell us the stories of their evolution and placement in the cycle of things. He also was able to share a vast understanding of how the land was carved and how nature has miraculously survived the hardships of growth among humankind. Despite being a city girl far removed from my own environment, I felt a comfort and safety, which allowed me the freedom to fully absorb the beauty around me. This can be greatly credited to Chris’ competency as a guide and sensitivity as a person. Reading poetry by the campfire was an added treat. The food was a culinary surprise. I would never have expected such hearty, healthy, and delicious meals from the cargo hold of a sea kayak. I would give the overall quality of my experience the highest rating. I commend you not only for a wonderful vacation but also for the respect and sensitivity your organization holds towards the environment. Thank you again for a beautiful experience. Julie Anne Fiore, Revere, MA
The travel tips, packing instructions and checklists were very helpful and complete. Even as first-time rookies we felt well prepared! Alexandra is an outstanding guide. The depth and breadth of her knowledge is simply amazing. She taught us about plants, animals, marine life, geography, oceanography, history, and meteorology. She is an effective instructor, a caring over-seer, and a superb cook. And she inspires fun and laughter with her delightful sense of humor. Alex was always responsive to our requests for advice or help with special needs. She skillfully kept our pace challenging yet achievable. She helped us accomplish far more than I ever expected we could. Alex was extremely competent and that inspired our confidence – both in her and in us! Every piece of equipment we used was clean and in excellent condition. All meals were well balanced and delicious – the portions were very generous. Alex superbly prepared everything. Because every facet of the kayak tour was outstanding, the overall quality of my experience was superb! I would recommend Sea Quest Kayak Tours to anyone! Jane Debelak, Apple Valley, MN
Your checklist was great and my husband was given complete and polite answers both times he phoned with additional questions. We were surprised at how stable our sea kayaks were as it was our first experience with this sport. We stayed perfectly dry too. (Not only in the kayaks but also in our tent when it rained.) The guide was outstanding…full of information about everything we saw, great sense of humor, articulate, and conscientious about everyone’s safety. This was the most fun and exciting experience our family remembers from any vacation. We’ve been raving to everyone about it. We plan to return on a longer trip next year! Our heartfelt thanks to you. Judy Fessenden, Camarillo, CA
The gift of self is priceless – you have redefined ‘above and beyond’. The kayak trip was more than anyone had dared hope for. You were awesome. PS – See you next year! Tammy Belcher, Glendale, AZ
I am making a special effort to thank you for your flexibility and the extra time you took to make arrangements for me. All the extra effort paid off in a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. Kevin is a wonderful guide. All aspects of the kayak tour were top-notch. I plan to return to kayak with you again. Thanks for a premier sea kayaking experience.  J Pizzino MD, Cary, NC
Your kayak guides are beyond words! Their expertise made the trip. What can we say… they were awesome, enthusiastic, and best of all they were just plain fun to be with! Michelle and Brian Feeley, Philadelphia, PA
The experience was full of incredible sights, great laughs and enough adventure to get the adrenaline flowing – big time! Bob Barut, Prospect Heights, IL
I would never go kayaking again without a biologist guide. We learned so much which gave us a deep appreciation of the wildlife, the islands, and the sea. Jim Williams, Tacoma, WA
I don’t have enough praise for your staff, they made the trip! Their joy and enthusiasm, wit and intelligence, and superior people skills surpass any guided tour I’ve taken before – diving trips, Outward Bound, all of them.  Anne Norton, Wasilla, AK
I found the equipment to be of the highest quality and in very good condition. I don’t believe I have ever been so relaxed and at peace with myself after a vacation. As my boyfriend put it, ‘she didn’t stop smiling from the time we got back until she fell asleep that night’. Gloria Fields, Beaverton, OR
Being one with nature sea kayaking last week seems almost a dream now that we’re back to our busy work routine. We appreciated the organization and preparation that went into making the expedition so enjoyable and relaxing. It was interesting to learn about marine life, and thrilling to see the Dall’s porpoises leaping around the kayaks! The meals were truly gourmet, thanks to your good cooking – you made it seem easy to feed such a large group in the wilderness. The group felt safe and well looked after with your kayak guides. Thank you. Evelyn Anderson, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I’ve recommended Sea Quest to everyone. I was very impressed with how well organized the trip was. I learned a lot and had a great time doing it. Both kayak guides were loads of fun – which made the trip! They made it look effortless but I know they were always working. Thanks. Jane Akers, Seattle, WA
As long-time outdoors people lacking kayaking experience, we respect and appreciate the high quality of your services and your equipment. Sea Quest is truly a class act! Thank you doing such an outstanding jobs of introducing us to kayaking and to the natural magnificence of the San Juan Islands. Carolyn Altman, Portland, OR
Superb. Almost a dream like quality, it was so beautiful. As a solo traveler I was made to feel a part of the group. I will highly recommend you. Melinda Pratt, Tigard, OR
I felt very fortunate to have experienced my first kayaking trip with such an eloquent, knowledgeable, fun-loving, life-loving guide. He allowed me to truly enjoy the expedition because he warranted my complete respect and trust throughout the adventure. Great work on your planning. We had a great time. Pretty exhilarating for a landlubber like myself! Julie Briggs, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
I loved the sea kayaks! They were so stable and beautiful. They were quite comfortable even though I am not very tall. The guide was wonderful, intelligent, humorous, and full of information. His meals were delicious and full of tender care. ‘Relax’ seemed to be the key word. I felt pampered and waited on the entire time. It was a five-day long high! Every second was magical. Every sunrise – every moonrise. The best, most spiritual experience of my entire life. It truly changed my perspective on life. I came home a different person! Joanne Derby, San Francisco, CA
A terrific kayak trip! Mark did an excellent job. I would recommend it to anyone. Dave Hoedemaker, Seattle, WA
Mark is an excellent kayak guide – very knowledgeable and good at passing that knowledge on to others. I enjoyed his humor and admired his integrity. He made everyone feel at ease and able to enjoy the experience. I’m recommending you to all my friends. Amy Wickham, Boulder, CO
Just wanted to thank you folks for a great vacation. We both appreciated all of your efforts to educate us to the ways of the kayaking environment and the ecology/zoology of Puget Sound. I was very pleased to benefit from your knowledge and experience – it added a lot to the beautiful setting. It is gratifying to know that individuals like you are making the commitment to study the environment and introduce so many ‘outsiders’ to nature. Keep up the good work. Mike Mogal, New York, NY
Absolutely the best! Both guides showed enthusiasm and knowledge far beyond what could be expected – exceptional people. Food was delicious and substantial. Vince Nibler, Berkeley, CA
I felt very secure with our guide’s knowledge of the local waters and his extensive experience. The food was excellent from the content to the presentation. We’ve come back once now already and I’m sure we’ll be back again. There’s nothing like it! Sarah Jackson, Cleveland, OH
Thanks for leading such a wonderful kayak trip. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Your incredible expertise and concern for excellence made the trip truly outstanding. I hope to make it on another tour again sometime. In the meantime, you can be sure I’m spreading the word! Dorle Vawter, Minneapolis, MN
As you can tell, I had a great time! It’s hard to believe that just a month ago, I was essentially at the ends of the earth. It was fantastic! Mark Hoffman, Redmond, WA
The staff was great. Everyone was not only experienced in kayaking but very knowledgeable about the region, sea life, geology, and more. It was a learning experience. Excellent! I would do it again in a flash. Brad Rodgers, Amarillo, TX
The kayak trip I just finished was a ball – an absolute joy in every respect. I had never kayaked before but I always felt safe. Everything provided was in tip-top shape and got the job done. I think that very special praise should go to the guides. They were excellent. More than any other factor, Martine made the kayak trip! Her very special personality stamped itself onto a great personal experience for me from the very first moment. The whole package was without fault. A-1 quality! Paul Bromberg, Bellmore, NY

Oculus Quest 2 review: better, cheaper VR

The new default for vr, if you’re okay with facebook.

By Adi Robertson , a senior tech and policy editor focused on VR, online platforms, and free expression. Adi has covered video games, biohacking, and more for The Verge since 2011.

The Verge’s Adi Robertson wearing a Quest 2.

As someone who writes about virtual reality and has been stuck at home just like many people during the 2020 pandemic, I’ve gotten asked one question over and over: if virtual reality is so great and actual reality is so dangerous, why isn’t everybody turning to VR? This isn’t a totally fair framing, since VR usage has spiked by some measures . But it did expose a simple problem: I really couldn’t recommend a headset that was friendly enough for most people to buy.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks with Oculus’ new Quest 2 headset, though, and that’s very close to changing. The Quest 2 is a self-contained headset that’s shipping on October 13th, and it’s an update to Oculus’ 2019 Quest . Oculus has kept that standalone Quest design with the same feature set, while improving its screen, reducing its weight, and — with one noteworthy caveat — making it more comfortable. It’s also dropped the starting price from $399 to $299, making the Quest 2 one of the lowest-priced headsets on the market.

The Quest 2 is everything I liked about the original Quest at launch but with the benefit of a stronger ecosystem that’s developed over the past year . Even with current-generation VR’s inherent awkwardness, it feels like a final product rather than an early-adopter experiment. Oculus — a company owned by social giant Facebook — has done some of its best work so far. It’s also provoked some of the biggest questions yet about VR’s future.

At a passing glance, the Quest 2 looks like a dramatically new headset. Facebook-owned Oculus has become known for its all-black flagship devices, but the Quest 2 has a pure white body and a black foam face mask, giving it a two-toned appearance. The new color scheme isn’t necessarily an improvement, but it makes sense: Facebook has consolidated its VR product line into a single device, and it’s making that device visually distinct.

The Quest 2 looks otherwise very similar to the Quest. It’s a little smaller than its predecessor, but both headsets have the same rounded plastic front, each corner studded with an outward-facing tracking camera. The Quest had textured fabric sides, while the all-plastic Quest 2 body feels a little more sterile, although that’s offset by soft fabric head straps that replace the Quest’s stiff rubber ones. The Quest 2’s controllers are white, but they’re otherwise nearly identical to previous generations of Oculus Touch devices.

Worthwhile upgrades, not big new features

You won’t get big new features from the Quest 2, but it includes some significant iterative upgrades. The headset features 6GB of memory instead of 4GB. Its base model has 64GB of storage, just like the Quest; for $399, you can get a greatly expanded 256GB. The Quest 2 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 chipset instead of a Snapdragon 835, hypothetically letting it run better-looking games (although the Quest 2’s current library is heavily optimized for the original headset, and neither device approaches a PC’s power) while taking advantage of XR2-specific optimization for things like tracking cameras and VR screen resolution. The headset remains chunky, but at 503 grams compared to the Quest’s 571, it’s only a little heavier than the relatively lightweight original Oculus Rift. Battery life is similar to the Quest, clocking between two and 2.5 hours for a gaming session.

The Quest 2’s screen resolution has leapfrogged most other VR headsets, offering 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye compared to the original’s 1440 x 1600; Oculus also promises to upgrade the suboptimal 72Hz refresh rate to 90Hz after launch. Resolution isn’t the only factor that matters — the Valve Index has the old Rift’s resolution, but its larger field of view and higher refresh rate make the screen expansive and crisp. Even with the update, the Quest 2 screen isn’t transformationally different from the Quest’s. But text is notably less grainy, and in turn, the whole experience feels more polished.

quest tour reviews

The original Oculus Quest was miserably front-heavy, and even the slimmer Quest 2 can weigh on your forehead. Its soft cloth strap almost feels like a step down, with less support and a slightly clumsier tightening mechanism. Oculus is also offering an alternate strap option, though: a padded plastic ring that rests more easily around your head and tightens with a convenient wheel at the back.

This isn’t as foolproof as some tethered headsets like the PlayStation VR. I’ll end up having one perfectly acceptable hours-long session and then another where I fidget constantly with the angle to make myself comfortable. But it’s a definite step up — my husband, who could only stand the Quest for a few minutes, got through a solid chunk of Beat Saber ’s campaign mode in the Quest 2. It’s also simpler than trying to mod your Quest with a third-party accessory, since you just pop a plastic socket at each side to switch straps.

Seriously consider the alternate strap

Oculus sadly hasn’t changed my least favorite Quest feature: its use of small, directed speakers instead of headphones or earbuds. The problem isn’t the sound quality; the Quest 2 has reasonable audio, although I find it a little thin. It’s that the sound is audible to anybody in the same room, and none of my headphones work well with the headset. Wired ones need their long cords pinned behind the straps, and Oculus apparently isn’t planning wireless earbud support anytime soon — Quest 2 team lead Prabhu Parthasarathy says latency is too big an issue. Instead, Logitech is selling custom-length wired earbuds and over-ear headphones for $50 and $100, respectively.

The Quest 2 is ridiculously cheap by VR headset standards, even with its handful of upgrades. But it’s a little frustrating that Oculus isn’t including the improved strap and earbuds by default, since new headset owners won’t necessarily realize how much better their experience could be. And unlike the charger and cheap headphones that ship with smartphones, people definitely won’t have these accessories floating around their home already.

  • The Verge’s favorite gadgets of 2020

Early Quest 2 leaks prompted fears that Oculus might be ditching focus adjustment — the option to move a headset’s lenses to match different interpupillary distances, improving the experience for a wider range of users. Oculus hasn’t done this, but it’s made the adjustment process more annoying. Instead of moving a smooth slider on the headset’s underside, you have to remove it and snap the lenses to one of three distance settings, then put it back on to see the improvement. Oculus says this option will help newcomers understand what the adjustments do, but the benefit isn’t clear. And while a single user will probably just set this option and forget it, it’s a bigger issue if you’re swapping the headset between family members or across an organization.

The Quest 2 headset (left) versus the original Quest.

The controllers, on the other hand, feel as good as ever. Oculus hasn’t changed the interface it established with its first-generation Touch: you’ll still get a pair of plastic remotes with a grip button and a trigger, two face buttons, and an analog stick on each one. The Quest 2’s designers reintroduced a thumb rest that was removed from the second-generation Touch, though, fixing my only complaint with the external design.

Internally, each controller still uses one AA battery, not the built-in rechargeables you’ll find in some VR controllers. Parthasarathy says this is because there’s no way of charging them that’s not awkward, although Oculus will probably transition at some point. The Quest could chew through batteries with a week or two of solid use, but Oculus promises the Quest 2 controllers have been optimized to last four times as long. While I haven’t been using it long enough to confirm that, mine indicated that they were at 90 percent power after a week of heavy use.

Oculus introduced hand tracking after the original Quest’s release, and the feature is available at launch on the Quest 2. It’s a great extra option for the home screen, letting you tweak settings or install games without bothering with the controllers. It’s also slowly being rolled out to third-party apps, including the workplace social tool Spatial — a good, low-pressure test case where you don’t need perfectly reliable fast-twitch motion.

Like the Quest’s, the Quest 2’s hand recognition is accurate, and Oculus credibly promises that it will improve over time. But gestures like pinching or turning your palm can be either accidentally triggered or fail to register, and when you’re using your hand to move a cursor, it doesn’t always point where you’d expect. So for now, it’s more of a perk than a full additional interface.

quest tour reviews

The Quest 2’s hardware, at least with the alternate strap, improves the Quest in almost every way. And its ecosystem has come a long way. The standalone Quest catalog started with around 50 titles, and Oculus promises over 200 around the Quest 2’s launch.

Standout game Beat Saber is being continuously expanded with new song downloads, most recently from Linkin Park , although its catalog remains small compared to non-VR rhythm games like Rock Band . It’s also getting a multiplayer mode and a BTS song pack this holiday. Upcoming games include Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge , created by Lucasfilm effects studio ILMxLAB; a VR installment of Sniper Elite ; a Jurassic Park puzzle game called Jurassic World Aftermath ; a shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe; and a VR adaptation of Myst .

These games weren’t available for review, but the existing Quest catalog already includes some relatively recent gems. The Vader Immortal trilogy pairs an enjoyable story with a satisfying lightsaber training mode. The Room VR: A Dark Matter brings a more hands-on approach to the Room series’ remarkably compelling puzzles. Stealth game Phantom: Covert Ops pushes the limits of the Quest’s power and screen with a large, dark, and low-contrast world, but its clever conceit — you’re infiltrating secret bases and assassinating enemies from a kayak — easily makes up for it.

Link removed the Quest’s big compromise

Of those current-generation titles, only Phantom is exclusive to Oculus headsets. Facebook looks to have a sizable exclusive lineup at launch, but it’s also promoting the Quest 2’s cross-platform potential. That includes upcoming battle royale game Population: One , which will be released in the fall of 2020 and features cross-play across HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, and Oculus headsets. Some of the Quest 2’s showcase apps aren’t even VR-only — like Spatial, which also supports smartphones and a desktop web app.

The Quest got a huge boost last year with Link, a feature that lets it play PC VR games with a USB-C connection. Link removed the Quest’s central sacrifice: the loss of access to particularly graphics-intensive Oculus games, third-party storefronts like SteamVR, and experiences that didn’t make it onto the Quest’s highly curated platform. In more concrete terms: it lets the Quest run Half-Life: Alyx , one of the best VR games to date.

Link has been in beta since last year, but it’s becoming an official feature around the Quest 2’s launch. While I expressed some frustration with the system this spring, it worked great with the Quest 2, in part because the official Link cable is an improvement over a much cheaper USB-C option like the Anker Powerline. (It unfortunately adds another $79 to the cost of a Quest 2.) The Link cable is significantly longer than average at five meters, and its plug is angled to sit neatly against the headset. A non-angled Anker cable would easily jiggle loose on the original Quest, although the Quest 2 also moves its USB-C port farther back on the headset, which could improve the overall experience for both. Add in the Quest 2’s improved screen, and I didn’t find myself missing the Oculus Rift. My biggest hurdle was simply getting used to a tethered headset again.

quest tour reviews

The Oculus Quest 2 retains current-generation VR’s baseline flaws: it’s grainy, bulky, and socially maladroit compared to a modern phone or laptop. VR is also best in some specific genres right now. You can find a variety of rhythm games, shooters, simulated sports like virtual boxing, and virtual worlds in which to socialize. By contrast, 360-degree video is a more sparsely populated field, despite the work of studios like Felix & Paul.

But if you’re interested in the current generation of VR games, the Quest 2 offers the best overall balance of hardware, features, and price. (Even with the upgraded strap, Link cable, and earbuds, this standalone product costs less than many PC-tethered headsets.) Its closest direct competition are business-focused headsets like the HTC Vive Focus Plus and Pico Neo 2, unless a company like Sony or Apple announces a standalone headset.

And VR developers have produced some solid anchor titles, including Beat Saber , Half-Life: Alyx , The Room VR , zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine , and social spaces like Bigscreen VR. Motion sickness can still be a problem in VR, but as developers have learned better design tricks and headset tracking has improved, it’s become easier to find experiences that don’t trigger it.

If you’ve already got a Quest, the Quest 2 isn’t a must-upgrade moment — all currently announced Quest 2 games will work with the Quest, and Facebook isn’t letting developers ship Quest 2-exclusive content at this time. But the hardware has distinct benefits. And if you’ve got an older PC-tethered headset, like an original Rift or Vive, the Quest is a big step up.

So why wouldn’t you get one? Basically, Facebook.

quest tour reviews

The Quest is the first Oculus headset to require a Facebook account, not just a standalone Oculus account. If you’re new to the platform, you’ll sign up with Facebook. If you’ve got an Oculus account, you’ll be prompted to merge your accounts.

This isn’t the sea change it might sound like. Facebook already owned all the information it collected through Oculus, including some data that’s predictable (your app usage history) and some that’s less obvious (how you draw the boundaries on your play space.) Moderators could cross-reference names and IP addresses to find a given Facebook user’s Oculus account. You can keep a separate friends list on the two platforms, and your profile still shows a VR avatar that you create. There’s no in-headset advertising or VR News Feed, although companies can target Facebook News Feed ads based on the games you play.

I merged my existing Facebook and Oculus accounts to review this headset, and my Oculus experience was exactly the same. I don’t regularly check Facebook, but based on a recent scroll through the News Feed, it’s currently trying to sell me on distance learning and Nextdoor — not the latest VR shooter.

VR is an intimate, potentially invasive medium

Even so, tightening the formal links between Oculus and Facebook raises new concerns. Lots of people get accidentally suspended from Facebook, and if that happens, it’s not clear how it affects Oculus devices. The company’s new terms of use suggest you can lose access to content if you do something like make a Facebook account with a fake name, but Oculus says the details are still being worked out. Parthasarathy says Facebook is trying to strike a balance in moderation, so a brief suspension won’t nuke your Oculus library. But Facebook moderation happens on such a huge scale that individual users can get stuck in the system, and the prospect of losing access to your purchased games and hardware is a scary one.

And Facebook having the technical capacity for something is different from doing it by default. Moderators could already ban Oculus accounts for egregious Facebook violations, but that required an extra step. Facebook could theoretically link VR activity to social media accounts before, but going forward, it’s automatically adding a whole new set of data points to an already vast catalog of your behavior.

VR is an incredibly intimate and potentially invasive medium. As Road to VR outlined last month , for instance, Facebook’s invite-only Horizon social space includes the option to have a moderator invisibly surveil your conversations with another person for potential rule-breaking. This is an extension of standard gaming moderation practices — Sony and Microsoft, for instance, let you report abusive private messages. But Facebook operates at a much greater scale and has a clearer interest in analyzing and monetizing your behavior.

Also, many people may not bother with a Link cable or a gaming PC. That gives a big advantage to a subset of Oculus-approved games, which are selected not just for quality, but for perceived commercial viability . Facebook has discussed opening a less restrictive store for a wider range of apps, but it declined to offer more detail at this time, suggesting that developers build for PC if they want to experiment. That artificially limits the audience for many games that could run just fine on a mobile headset. Some social VR developers are already complaining about Facebook suppressing competition , and the Quest 2 only increases its power to set the terms of engagement — and potentially the kinds of games that headset users see.

These might seem like abstract concerns compared to the Quest 2’s concrete benefits. But the Quest 2 is the first headset I can reasonably recommend for a wide audience. Facebook’s VR head start is growing, and the coming year could set industry expectations for privacy, developer autonomy, and basic consumer-friendliness. This may not be VR’s mass-market moment, but it’s the moment to start seriously thinking about how that world might work.

Agree to Continue: Oculus Quest 2

Every smart device now requires you to agree to a series of terms and conditions before you can use it — contracts that no one actually reads. It’s impossible for us to read and analyze every single one of these agreements. But we started counting exactly how many times you have to hit “agree” to use devices when we review them since these are agreements most people don’t read and definitely can’t negotiate.

Facebook and Oculus are in the process of updating their terms of service, following an announcement that new headsets would require a Facebook account. So the agreements you’ll find in October won’t necessarily match what we list here, and they might differ depending on whether you’re creating a new account or merging existing Oculus and Facebook accounts.

To use the Oculus Quest 2, we agreed to:

  • Facebook Terms of Service
  • Facebook Data Policy
  • Facebook Cookies Policy
  • Oculus Terms of Service
  • Oculus Privacy Policy
  • Location access: “Location access is needed to discover and set up nearby headsets, and more.”
  • Health and safety warnings: “You understand the Oculus health and safety warnings in the [setup] video and in online resources, and you agree to show them to other people using your device.”

There were no optional agreements, although individual apps may require separate approvals.

Final provisional tally: seven agreements.

An Honest Review of Jurassic Quest - Is it Worth the Price of Admission?

An Honest Review of Jurassic Quest - Is it Worth the Price of Admission

When I heard that Jurassic Quest was coming to town in Sacramento I jumped at the chance to obtain tickets to see it. Both my daughter and my husband are big fans of dinosaurs and it seems like a fun idea to have a “Jurassic Park” adventure. Obviously we will never see real dinosaurs so this is as close as you can get to the seeing the jurassic period come to life.

This blog post is a Jurassic Quest review based on our experience and may help you answer the questions on whether or not it would be worth it for you to spend the money to visit.

An Honest Review of Jurassic Quest - Is it Worth the Price of Admission

What is Jurassic Quest?

The best way to describe Jurassic Quest is a huge exhibit for dino lovers, filled with interactive stations and displays. The Jurassic Quest in Sacramento was indoors in a larger hanger and you could walk on-foot to each section. In other cities the Jurassic Quest exhibit is a “drive-through” experience. Strollers are allowed which was great because we had our baby to push around during our visit.

In some cities there’s also a sister exhibit called the Ancient Oceans which features now extinct sea creatures (which are also animatronic!).

Jurassic Quest travels around the country year-round. Check the schedule here to see when they’ll be in your city.

What We Loved About Jurassic Quest

For myself the most impressive part of the Jurassic Quest experience is the huge scale of many of the dinosaurs which are true to life in size. And the fact that they are animatronic with movement! The motions paired with the sound effects and scenery really bring it to life.

See videos of the animatronic dinosaurs on my Tiktok and Instagram Reels !

The Jurassic Quest in Sacramento takes place inside the CalExpo which has huge indoor hangers used for these types of events. Along with all the dinosaur displays there’s fun photo stations, ridable dinosaurs, a fossil dig, dinosaur characters (actors dressed as dinosaurs), dinosaur shows, dinosaur puppets and giant inflatable slides and bounce houses.

The final fun verdict was this - the little kids seem to enjoy the inflatable slides and houses the most while the adults appreciate the displays and taking fun photos with the dinosaurs as keepsakes.

How Much Does it Really Cost to go Jurassic Quest?

Jurassic quest admission ticket cost.

These prices are updated for 2022!

Tickets purchased in advance online are $19 for kids and adults, other wise it’s $22 at the door. Children under 2 years old are free. Seniors are $20.

They strongly recommend you purchase tickets in advance because they are designated for a timed arrival window. It could be that at the time you get there the time slot could be sold-out.

Pro -tip: Check Groupon for a possible Jurassic Quest discount deal in your city!

VIP Kids Unlimited Rides Admission Tickets

The general admissions ticket mentioned above is just for entry to the exhibition and access to the dinosaur and marine exhibits, arts and crafts activities, and dinosaur shows.

There are rides and activities that require activity tickets available to purchase on-site, or you can opt to upgrade to the Kids Unlimited Rides ticket. It’s $36 for all-you-can-ride access to dinosaur rides, inflatables and fossil dig along with entry.

Extra rides tickets start at $6 each. Green screen photography and animal art tattoos are also available at a separate cost.

Cost of Parking for Jurassic Quest

At many of the venues where Jurassic Quest is being hosted they have parking fees. At the CalExpo parking fees range between $10 - $15 depending on the time and event.

Dinosaur Souvenirs at Jurassic Quest

When you take your kids to Jurassic Quest they will surely see the giant merchandise displays filled with dinosaur toys, bubble wands, clothing and anything else dinosaur related you can think of. If you’re a sucker parent like we are, we can’t go to an event like this without spoiling our kids with souvenirs. So you should also budget for this during your visit.

Cost of Food at Jurassic Quest

The food portion of the Jurassic Quest event is handled by each venue. The CalExpo always has food stands with “carnival style” foods (think nachos, hot dogs, burgers, etc.). The food there is typically expensive and not the best quality. My recommendation is that you eat before hand and bring along snacks. Unless you’re like my husband and crave those carnival style nachos.

What if the event gets cancelled?

All tickets include a 100% ticket guarantee that in the event of a show cancellation or postponement for any reason. Your ticket purchase will be automatically refunded for the full purchase amount.

What is the Best Age Range for Jurassic Quest?

The answer to this question is simple - there’s something for everyone! Jurassic Quest is stroller-friendly so you can push your babies and toddlers around with ease. There’s rides and games for younger kids and more mature displays for teenagers and adults.

Also, for the Tiktok and Instagram generation, there’s plenty of fun photo and video opportunities. Aka - your teenager may still be able to enjoy it too!

Is Jurassic Quest too Scary for Young Kids?

When we first arrived inside the Jurassic Quest exhibition, my 3-year-old was a bit timid seeing all the moving dinosaurs with the roaring sounds. We had to ease her into it and make her feel comfortable. But after a few minutes she perked up (as you can see in all these photos).

I would expect that a fair amount of children under 4-years-old may have a few scared moments, but there’s plenty of toddler-friendly spots to hangout. Some Jurassic Quest exhibits have areas known as Tricera-Tots which are designated for children under 3-years-old. These zones have small child approved climbing structures and safe areas for them to play.

Can Adults Enjoy the Jurassic Quest Exhibition?

As an adult I enjoyed walking through the exhibit and taking in the Jurassic scene. I am always taking photos with my camera and there were plenty of cute family moments to capture.

If you scroll to the bottom of this blog post you’ll see photos from the paleontologist inspired display which has a mix of real and replica fossils. For those eager to learn more about dinosaurs and ancient eras, there’s plenty of information available to read and watch.

Planning Your Trip to Jurassic Quest

How much time should i plan to spend at jurassic quest.

I would think that to get the most bang for your buck you’d want to spend around 3 hours at the exhibit. But it really depends on your kid’s attention span. Younger kids may tire after an hour while older kids can stay entertained longer - or vise versa. If you’re able to eat (or you bring food), then I would plan for 2 - 3 hours because that gives you enough time to fully enjoy each station.

It’s important to note that although your ticket has a timed entry, you can stay as long as you want after you’ve entered.

Socks for Inflatable Slide and Bounce Houses

Make sure you bring socks for the inflatable slide or you will have to purchase them on-site. Shoes must be removed to bounce. FYI - most adults and teenagers exceed the weight limit and cannot ride the inflatables.

Wear Layers for Winter Seasons

We visited Jurassic Quest in the month of January and it was a bit chilly inside the venue. If you’re visiting during the winter months then come prepared with clothing layers.

Bring Water and Snacks

You may not know ahead of time what food and drinks will be available at the venue where you’re going. The Jurassic Quest exhibit doesn’t sell their own food and beverages, it’s only the hosting venue that sells them. Come prepared with water and snacks just incase.

Bring a Stroller or Wagon for Kids

There’s a lot of walking involved in these big exhibitions which can tire little legs. For younger kids it can be much easier to pull them along in a wagon or push a stroller. They will probably be able to last longer… and possibly even take a nap!

The Negatives and Cons of Jurassic Quest

It wouldn’t be an honest review if I didn’t point out some of the negatives and cons of Jurassic Quest after talking about all the pros. So here they go:

Not All the Venues and Cities Have the Same Level of Quality

This is a traveling show and the producers of the exhibit are at the mercy of what the venue has to offer as far as space and atmosphere. I’ve seen poor reviews where guests said that most of the dinosaurs weren’t moving, it was small and crowded, very limited rides, etc.

The thing about this is that you’ll never really know how the exhibit is in your city before you visit yourself. My advice is go into it with flexibility and plan to make the most of it no matter what.

Long Lines for the Bounce House and Slides

If you attend the event during peak hours then you might run into the dilemma of long lines for the inflatables (and possibly other rides too). I mentioned earlier that these are very popular play activities and most kids like to go multiple times. There’s a staff member monitoring the ride and kids are given a 5 minute limit to bounce each time. My advice would be to try and go on a weekday during slow hours and avoid weekends if possible.

Jurassic Quest Can Get Expensive

I broke down the pricing above and for a family with multiple children you could easily end up spending over $100 for your visit.

Question: Is it worth the price of $100?

Answer: If you make the day of it and really take advantage of everything they have to offer then yes.

You also have to think comparatively because you would likely spend more going to places like Disney parks, Sea World, water parks, etc. If your kids (or husband) are big fans of dinosaurs then this is the amusement park to invest for them.

Test Report: Quest Mid Motor is a Fun Urban eBike with Lots of Extras for Added Value

March 25, 2022 - We were excited to test the Quest Mid Motor e-bike, including their consumer-direct delivery process as more and more bike companies, both small and large, are now offering this option.

quest tour reviews

Quest is based in Montreal and is a sister brand of iGo Electric that boasts 15+ years of experience in the electric bicycle market. Launched four years ago, Quest e-bikes are also available through London Drugs in Canada, either in store or via their website, and then picked up boxed, with minimal assembly at home. The Quest box is a bit larger than your average bike box and weighs 60kg so be prepared with the right vehicle as well.

Assembly can take 30-60+ minutes depending on how handy you are. The e-bike comes with all of the tools needed for assembly and there is a helpful on-line video to walk you through every step. The QR code on the hangtag also links you to the assembly video.

quest tour reviews

Once the bike is out of the box and the cardboard and plastic has been removed the first step is to attach the handlebar which has all of the shifters, brake levers and controllers already on it. The stem’s front plate needs to be removed with four bolts, then the handlebar put into the stem with the bolts reattached. The front wheel is next. The front quick release needs to be inserted and then the front wheel put into place.

The video doesn’t mention that you have to remove the space that is temporarily inserted in the front disc brake caliper. This piece of plastic keeps the brake pads separated during transport and must be removed or the front disc brake rotor won’t insert properly – so, make sure you take it out. (Quest is aware and the instruction video is being updated).

The fenders and then the front light have to be mounted with a few bolts. The pedals are the last thing to put on. Once complete and everything is checked for tightness all that is left is getting the fit just right for seat height.

quest tour reviews

The Quest Mid Motor model is nicely equipped with plenty of added-value extras. The 6061 aluminum frame is light weight and durable, and comes in one size which will fit most people and also features a dropped top tube for added clearance. The lockable/removeable 468Wh Samsung lithium battery with a 75-90km range fits neatly into the downtube and can be charged on the bike or when removed.

The 350-watt Quest-branded 36V mid-motor provides 81Nm of torque along with nine levels of power, including walk assist. All functions are controlled via the handlebar display that’s backlit and adjusts to the surrounding light levels, making it easy to read while offering speed, odometer, battery charge level, trip timer and power assist level.

quest tour reviews

The buttons are easy to reach and require a positive click to change the power levels so there are no shifts in error. The walk assist is a great feature to get the bike out of the garage and makes it easy to assist pushing the bike whenever needed.

Equipped with a Suntour NEX suspension fork with 50mm of travel, the drivetrain features an 8-speed Shimano Altus rear derailleur and shifters along with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes for accurate stopping power.

quest tour reviews

Great added features include an adjustable stem, a Selle Royal Novola saddle, fenders for riding in all kinds of weather, a Spanninga front light that connects to the battery system and comes on when the outside light level gets low, a rear red light built into the rear rack, a bell and a kickstand.

The Quest Mid Motor rides a city bike should, with an upright position that’s comfortable. The contact points of the saddle and grips are very rider friendly, and the front shock really helps to smooth things out, also allowing you to maintain control should you hit a pot hole.

The braking is also strong and smooth with the e-bike slowing down evenly when you feather the brake levers, but also delivering promptly when needed to stop for an unexpected obstacle.

quest tour reviews

The pedal assist performed smoothly with an easy acceleration that makes you feel like you have a strong tailwind, making small hills melt away. The power assist levels max out at 32 kph and the throttle was a nice touch to power you home after a tiring ride without having to pedal.

The mid-motor position helps keep the bike stable through corners which can be taken at speed as the Quest tracked well, and also accelerated out of corners well. When descending the weight of the e-bike helps it pick up speed quickly and again the tracking was smooth and comfortable without any hesitation or concern.

While I never ran out of power, keep in mind that like most e-bikes, the weight is quite noticeable when pedalling without assist, and hills that were a breeze will suddenly become quite challenging.

The claimed battery range of 75-90km hit the mark in our tests and when storing the Quest in the garage with the temperatures around zero Celsius, the battery still held the charge, powering up every time without hesitation.

The Quest Mid Motor is good value and a fun ride on bike paths or on the city streets around town. Equipped with everything that a rider could need it’s quiet and reliable with the motor assist barely noticeable, making it easy to leave the car in the driveway when there was an errand to run.

The SRP is $2,999.99 and for more information visit Quest here  or London Drugs here .
