Inside: Why it’s cool to decorate with maps and a collection of the best map decor and craft ideas for the home.
Are you a travel enthusiast with a keen eye for interior design? Or perhaps you appreciate the unique appeal of maps and their ability to evoke a sense of wanderlust and adventure.
Whatever the case, one of the easiest and most effective ways to stamp your individuality and personality in your home is with some map decor and crafts.
From showcasing your love for geography to creating a nostalgic ambience, map decor offers endless possibilities for expressing your style and interests. This blog post will delve into map-inspired home decoration, exploring various ideas and techniques to infuse your space with cartographic charm.
The Allure of Map Decor in Home Design
Maps have a fascinating allure that goes beyond their functional purpose of navigation. They hold stories of distant lands, hidden treasures, and unexplored territories. By incorporating maps into your home decor, you bring a touch of adventure and curiosity into your living space. Map decor adds visual interest, sparks conversations, and invites exploration.
Mapping Your Decor: Choosing the Right Maps and Sourcing Them
When decorating with maps, the type of maps you choose can significantly impact your space’s overall aesthetic and theme. Here are some considerations for selecting suitable maps and where to source them:
Maps with Personal Significance: To infuse your decor with sentimental value, consider using maps with personal significance. These could be maps of places you’ve visited, your hometown, or dream destinations. You can source maps from local tourist centres and online map retailers or create custom maps using digital mapping tools.
I keep maps from all my trips and holidays for crafting. I have a draw full of tourist maps of cities I’ve visited, out-of-date road maps and even piste maps from previous ski holidays. Now that most people use satnavs, it is easy to pick up old road maps in thrift and junk stores very cheaply. Maps do go out of date as roads get updated.
Vintage and Antique Maps: For a touch of old-world charm, vintage maps are an excellent choice. Look for local antique stores, flea markets, or specialized online platforms that offer a wide selection of vintage maps. These maps add historical flair and serve as captivating conversation starters.
If you want a map of a particular continent, country or city, Pictureboxblue is a great digital resource for maps in the Public Domain. There are some particularly impressive vintage world maps on the site.
Artistic and Illustrated Maps: If you’re looking for maps that double as artwork, consider illustrated maps or artistically designed cartographic pieces. These maps often feature creative illustrations, vibrant colours, and intricate details. You can find them in art galleries, online art marketplaces, or from independent artists who specialize in map illustrations.
Topographic and Geological Maps: Consider incorporating topographic or geological maps into your decor for a unique and visually intriguing touch. These maps showcase a specific region’s natural features and contours, adding depth and texture to your space. Geological survey offices, speciality map stores, or online map retailers are good sources for these maps.
For example, these beautiful old geological maps of the Mississippi River are like works of art and are in the Public Domain, so they are free to print.
City Maps and Transit Maps: City maps and transit maps can be excellent choices if you are strongly connected to a particular city or appreciate urban aesthetics. They capture the intricate details of a city’s streets, landmarks, and public transportation systems. Local bookstores, city tourism centres, or online map retailers often offer a variety of city maps.
Online Resources and Digital Maps: Digital maps can be a valuable decor resource besides physical maps. Online mapping platforms and apps allow you to create custom maps, generate printable versions, or even use them as digital displays. Websites like Mapbox and Google Maps offer various map customization options.
Considerations for Choosing the Perfect Map for Decor and Crafts
Remember to consider your space’s size, style, and colour palette when choosing maps. Whether you opt for vintage maps, custom designs, or artistically illustrated cartography, your selected maps will contribute to your home decor’s overall ambience and narrative.
So set sail on your map-sourcing adventure, and let the maps you select guide you towards a beautifully decorated space that reflects your personality and passions.

How to Create the Perfect Travel Photo Gallery Wall
Sharing is caring!
A Travel Photo Gallery Wall is the perfect way to help your vacations keep on giving you inspiration and fond memories. Let your love of that dream destination continue to grow with a travel picture wall, well after the plane has touched down.
One of the best parts about traveling is being able to re-live the sights seen and memories created. A fun way our family does this is by having a travel gallery on our wall with a map .
Where to put a Travel Photo Gallery Wall?
When we started traveling a lot as a family, we wanted something to strengthen our good memories of trips together and inspire future travel. We looked at lots of travel wall ideas.
We considered collecting travel wall decor from different destinations. Ultimately, but we decided our own memories from the lens of our own cameras and our viewpoint would be the best way to make our travels last forever.
We chose to create our wall of travel photos on a spacious and open wall in our master bedroom right next to our bed. Travel is a priority in our family, so it’s our private travel wall gallery. We aren’t showing off to our friends and family all our travel experiences, but rather keeping them close to our hearts and minds in our private room.
My husband and I cuddle up together and reminisce about our trips on the walls. We love seeing how little our kids were on past trips. Then when we get home from a trip, we enjoy going through our travel pictures and picking the best one to represent our feelings of the destination and our trip there.
We all use the travel photo gallery wall and push pin map to create future trip ideas and plans together.
Adding photos of our most recent adventures sometimes means we have to take out an old photo, but we keep a file of all our travel photos used in the past. Changing the travel photos on the wall make it look ‘new and different’ which sometimes is hard to do in a home.
Don’t let the memories fade when the trip ends! Get your travel pictures on the wall!
Benefits of a Travel Photo Gallery Wall
I love having a travel wall of photos. Here are all the reasons this is worth your time, resources and a full wall in your home (or more!)
- Remember stunning scenes, majestic vistas, and beautiful cities. Photos never do it justice, but it will bring back my memory of the place
- Create stronger bonds of love for your family
- Feel nostalgic for good memories from journies around the world
- To encourage and motivate future trips and adventures to add to the collection (and get another pin in our travel map!)
- Have travel on your mind as you can see so much of the world left to explore.
- Motivation to save for your next trip
- Find destinations that are interesting and new right from the pushpin map. Easily see the spots you haven’t been to and be curious about what there might be to do or see there.
Travel Wall of Photos | Before and After
Our previous wall was a collection of random frames and different sizes of travel photos. We added the travel photos on our wall as we took new trips – with whatever frame we could find. We added new frames and photos as we went so it was a bit chaotic.
Not to mention the ugly yellow and red wall! we were due for an update!
When we recently repainted our master bedroom, we wanted to be more intentional in creating our travel gallery. In the past, we would find a random new frame for a new trip photo and cram it into space on the wall.
My goals for the new gallery wall with a map included:
- Display many of our favorite travel photos
- Professional Push pin map to help us track our trips and plan future trips
- Look Clean and Organized
How to Create a Travel Picture Wall
1. push pin map.
A travel Gallery photo wall needs to include a push pin map! I love the maps ready complete with the foam backing to easily stick pins in our vacation spots. A travel map helps you envision the world and be curious about a variety of places to see.
Push Pin maps are high quality and look gorgeous. There are so many options to choose from, you are sure to find exactly what works for your style and travel type.
Here are some travel wall ideas to consider as your pick your map.
- USA or World map?
- Artistic Map or Accurate Map?
- Busy Map or Simple Design?
- Colorful or muted tones?
After looking for many, many options, we decided that even though the artistic maps were more aesthetically pleasing, a map with accurate cities and roads would meet our needs better.
However, with our new room colors and simple design, we wanted a map that had muted tones and was easy to look at from a distance. We found a simple earth-toned map with major cities and roads listed. It is perfect!
These Push Pin Travel Maps have 8 frame options and over 20 different maps to choose from. They come with a foam board already installed so it is ready to start adding your pins. And you will even receive map pins in your order, so you can start pinning your travels immediately.
We received our Push Pin map within a week of ordering it. It is durable in quality and was shipped to protect the frame. The map arrived exactly as shown on the website.
You’ll find many different options for world maps and US maps and even keepsake boxes and other travel decor and treasures from Push pin Maps.
Now comes the fun part of finding your very favorite photos from your trips.
- How many photos?
- Landscape only or with people in the photos?
- Label photos with date or location?
- Artistic prints or random assortment
Keep in mind that most of your best travel photographs will be landscape not vertical. You’ll need more wide frames than long frames. There will be the occasional tall photos (like the Eiffel Tower, Tower of Pisa or Gateway Arch ). so don’t limit to only landscape. We opted for a design that gave us minimal vertical photo spaces and plentiful landscape options.
Do you want only artistic photos or some with your family in them? We opted for some of both. We love seeing how little our kids were on certain trips and talking about their changing looks and personality through the years. But we also enjoy using our photography skills to capture the perfect perspective at our destination.
Do you want to label your photos with locations or years? We put a small tag on each photo with the location and year. Even though we thought we would remember every trip forever, after 6 years of traveling, we realized we were wrong. When we would look at our wall we were forgetting when and where we experienced things.
If you print all your photos at the same time, it is much cheaper to get 8x10s here for only $.70 each. There is a $9 shipping fee, so this is only cost effective if you are buying a large number of photos. We received 60 8 x 10s in a couple of days for half the cost of printing locally.
Do you want larger, decorative frames with mats or simple frames ?
On our previous travel wall, the variety of frames and mats were distracting and chaotic. We just wanted to see our photos without the distraction of the frames. We purchased inexpensive, uniform frames . We ordered all the same frames in bulk and saved money.
If your budget allows, you may consider making canvas prints of your favorite photos.
4.Other Decor
Many travel galleries have beautiful pieces of decor mixed in. Arrows, Quotes, Wooden plaques, or globes or travel souvenirs on a shelf might be a perfect addition to your travel display. Look around for a favorite travel decoration to add to your travel photo gallery wall.
Our wall was just a little full, so we put travel decor in other locations in our home.
Total Cost of our Travel Photo Gallery Wall
- 60 8×10 prints= $35
- 36 5×7 prints =$28
- Push Pin Travel Map = $120 ( includes the frame and pins)
- 60 8×10 frames and 36 5×7 frames = $88
Total for a new travel wall = $271

Love this and plan on doing something similar in my basement. Can you tell me how you put the info on each of the photos? What program you used? Love the idea of that. Thanks!
I used adobe photoshop. Im sure there are many photo editing software that can do it. Canva is a free program…
Great tips and ideas! Thank you. Another DIY project to add to the list.
Great information, I have never thought of doing this. I really like the idea. I just need to figure out where I could put this in my house somehow. I have always wanted away to put our fun adventures on a wall.
Its a great way to bring your trip home with you! You could even do a small corner of just a few photos you rotate through…
I love this idea. I’ve always wanted to create a travel wall and this has given me the inspiration to do it! I love how you added the map as the center point and built the rest around it. Its a very organized way to display many photos in one area and tell a story with it.
Thank you! I really like how it turned out! Show me yours when you finish it!
This is an awesome idea! I have one but it is in the process of being made. =) Planning more vacation trips with my little ones.
share with me what you come up with! Hope your travels go smoothly with the littles!
Awesome idea! This will be the same thing that me and my wife are planning to do by the time we move to our new home. Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you so much for this post! I have actually been working on our travel gallery and have had a hard time deciding which direction to take. I think my original thought would have been to chaotic. You inspired me to go with a more simple approach. I’m excited to work on it now!
oh good! I know my first few ideas would’ve been really chaotic because of the number of trips we take! Most wall only have a few photos with more decor, but I wanted to streamline mine!
I absolutely LOVE this idea! Now I just have to find a wall đ
Yep that can be challenging! Is there a wall you really dislike that you can redo?
I think this is awesome and something I will definitely do. I just had my first child in September of 2017 and weâve already traveled to North Carolina from Alaska together. About to fly again to Oregon and then England for the summer. This is also a great way for me to FINALLY decorate my bedroom!
Wow! You are going places! Yep, we love it in our bedroom too!
Love this idea! I was actually just looking for ideas on how to do the same sort of things. I love how clean and organized yours looks. I have a large world map that I want to do it with.
Finding the map was the hardest part for me! So if you already have yours you are ready to go!
I love this and want to do it! Plus the low cost makes me super happy!
Right? I thought it would cost a lot more to re do the entire thing to my liking!
I love this! My fiancĂŠ and I were recently talking about printing our trip photos and starting a photo gallery.
Perfect time to start just as you are starting out your marriage! Leave lots of blanks for the future!!
Love this idea! The muted map tones really help the pictures stand out. Definitely going to do something similar! (I wonder how we could include both a world map and a U.S. map… hmm….)
Oh, good idea. I was think I would just convert over to a world map, but it would be better to have both! Our kids just got passports and we are starting to travel the world more. Let me know what you come up with!

How To Make A Travel Map [Tips and Free Template]
Planning a trip abroad? If you want your trip to go smoothly, especially if traveling with a group, you'll want to make a travel map.
Chelsey Roney
CEO, Co-Founder
Putting together a travel map can be a fun and insightful exercise that helps you throughout your journeys. Any seasoned traveler knows that planning and anticipating your trip is an enjoyable part of the process. And they also know that, when it comes to having a positive experience, a little bit of planning and preparation goes a long way.
Thatâs why we put together this guide on how to make a travel map. We hope that you find this advice useful during your itinerary. You may even find that your travel map is a wonderful way to remember your trip long after the travel dates have come and gone. Without further ado, letâs dive into some FAQs about travel planning maps.
What is a Travel Map?
A travel map is any kind of representation of the places youâre going. It can help you keep track of places you want to go and the information you need to remember. Back in the old days, a travel map would be on paper. While some people may prefer the nostalgia of putting together a paper map, most people in the 21st century prefer a more high-tech solution. You can put together a group travel map on many types of mapping software.
Those who use Google maps or Apple Maps may lean towards their preferred daily navigation tool. However, there is also value in finding a more niche solution to this exciting project of putting together a personal travel map . Before we dive into the specifics of how you can put together your very own travel map, letâs take a look at some of the benefits that a travel itinerary map has to offer.
Benefits of a Travel Map
First and foremost, having a travel map will help you keep your itineraries organized. If youâre hoping to make the most of your trip and see every site that you had on your bucket list, a bit of organization goes a long way. After all, you donât want to waste precious time and energy on your vacation or travels trying to figure out basic logistics that you could have researched beforehand if you were more diligent.
A travel map can also be a good opportunity to share information and collaborate with your travel partners. Different people have different visions of the ideal journey. Therefore, collaboration and communication are quite important. Some tools (such as Proxi) offer the opportunity to build a travel map together on a single platform from multiple accounts. This can help reduce miscommunications and frustrations over poorly planned Itineraries.
What to Include in Your Travel Map?
Now that weâve talked about the benefits of putting together a travel map, letâs take a look at a few of the most common elements that you want to consider adding to yours. Weâll start with some basic trip amenities that any traveler will need to consider. From there, we can talk about the specifics of your journey.
Hotels and Accommodations
On your trip, you will obviously need a place to stay. The exact hotel that you choose will depend on your budget and your plans during your stay. But a few things to always look for are location, quality, and price.
You want a hotel that is located close to the attractions youâll be visiting. Itâs also worth considering if the area your hotel is in is walkable and if it has connectivity with local trains, buses, bike shares, and other transit options. Checking Google reviews and other customer feedback can help you decide between the hotel options.
Price is a concern for most travelers to some degree, so you will want to understand the cost of each option as well. Once you have chosen a hotel, your travel map can help you remember key details such as the address, check-in hours, and where you will be heading out to once you leave your hotel
Sights and Attractions
Add attractions your want to see. Now that weâve taken care of accommodations letâs dive into the attractions! You can find information about the attractions in the area youâre traveling to by creatively scouring the web. Platforms like Yelp, Reddit, and even Quora are good places to start . If you can find a travel blog or YouTube channel with more personal and subjective content from creators you love, that may help even more. Once youâve chosen the attractions youâd like to visit, you can use your travel map to keep track of information such as the address, the ticket page, the hours, when you will go, and any relevant links to reservations.
Travel Arrangements
A Travel map is also a good place to keep track of your arrangements. Thereâs nothing worse than arriving at an airport or train station and not being able to find your boarding pass. So why not keep your ticket links directly in a unified and cohesive travel map? You can also note down information such as station location, transit to the airport, and departure times of all your journeys.
When traveling with a large group, these situations can be particularly chaotic or even stressful if not managed well. In order to coordinate your party when heading to the airport, train station, or bus terminal, digital tickets and a readily accessible itinerary are invaluable.
Food, Drinks, and Dining
A key part of experiencing any local culture is finding the food fare. If you do research beforehand, you can take note of the restaurants you would most like to visit. Of course, you can also add information on hours, menu items, reservations, and the address for any dining establishments you will be patronizing.
With a digital travel map, you can start researching (and anticipating) all the amazing food, drinks, and experiences you will have. And all that research can be stored and accessed, making for a wonderfully seamless chain of events.
Additional Tips
By now, your travel vision is really beginning to take shape. The big day is approaching, and soon you will be on your way to experience new things and build memories that will last a lifetime. Here are some final tips to put the finishing touches on your travel map and be fully prepared for everything that life â and your journey â will throw at you.
Take Advantage of the Cloud
Use an online map maker so you can access your map anywhere. Thereâs nothing worse than putting tons of work into a map that you then leave in the hotel at the most crucial moment. An online map will allow you to access the same information from multiple devices, and it will make it easy to share that information among multiple people.
While there is certainly some nostalgic value in a paper map, we would recommend buying one for a souvenir if you really want one but relying on a more modern and robust digital solution for your day-in and day-out travel necessities.
Get Organized and Create Categories
Group map pins into different categories to help keep things organized. For example, you may wish to group all of the museums you will be visiting into one category and all of the architectural sites you wish to experience in a different one. Things such as accommodations, hotels, and transit can also deserve their own categories.
The exact division of locations into distinct categories is ultimately up to you, but you want to pick a consistent theme that is practical for the purposes of your particular travel experience. Grouping pins in this fashion can also help make sure that everyone on the trip gets to have their own input. Group travel is sometimes challenging, but good communication can help.
Add Photos and Organize Memories
A digital travel map with pins is useful for more than just planning. The great thing is that you can later use the pins to upload photos of your vacation if you are using a proper travel map software such as Proxi. You can upload photos of your vacation to each respective pin, turning your map into a photo album.
With Proxi, you can also embed this on your blog, so others can follow along with your journey. Our platform was made with adventurous and creative travelers like you in mind, so make sure to check us out and see everything that proxy has to offer. It will help you make the most of your trip and will also help you organize and share all the memories and experiences that you take in along the way.

How to Make a DIY Travel Map

Learn how to make a DIY Travel Map! A travel map is the perfect way to keep track of all the places you’ve been and all the places you want to go.
Do you have wanderlust? Are you always dreaming of traveling to new places? If so, you need a DIY Travel Map!
Making a DIY travel map is a great way to keep track of all the amazing places you’ve been and a way to plan for future trips. It’s also fun to share your travels when friends and family visit. Best of all, it’s easy to make a DIY travel map yourself.
Over the years, my travel map has evolved. It started as a piece of art above my fireplace , then became a DIY chalkboard map . Today, I’m going to show you how to create your very own travel map to chart all your family’s travels.
Disclosure: This page includes affiliate links.
Travel Maps with Pins
The classic chart-your-travel map is made with cork board and push pins. While I love the traditional pushpin travel map, I didn’t love the prospect of tiny pins all over my kids’ play area (ouch!).
Plus, a paper map attached over cork may not hold up to long-term, especially if push pins are inserted and re-inserted over the years.
Inspired by this list of National Park Themed posters , I decided to think outside the box push pin. There are all kinds of travel maps nowadays: sticker, rub-off, checklists, and more.
So, our travel map skips the pins and uses easy-to-adjust removable map dot stickers , instead.
A travel map is simple to make and can easily be added to as you travel across the United States . Before you begin making this travel map, you’ll want to determine a color-coding system for the places you visit. We used green for parks, blue for lakes/oceans, yellow for theme parks/museums, and red for cities.

Instructions
1. Get a Framed Art Piece
First, head out to a local thrift store and grab a large framed piece of art. It doesn’t have to be pretty! As long as you like the style of the frame, you’ll be set.
2. Tape the Glass & Paint
Next, tape off the edges of the glass in your frame. Then, apply 3 coats of chalkboard paint to the glass. Allow the paint to dry for several days.
3. Measure Your Chalkboard
Measure the dimensions of the glass chalkboard to determine what size map template you’ll need.
4. Download a Map Printable
Follow the instructions, below, to download a map printable that is sized for your artwork. There are 9 sizes to choose from, ranging from 11×14 to 30×40 inches.
You will use this printable as a stencil to draw on your new glass chalkboard.
Would you like to download the free printable? Click the button, below, to sign up for our newsletter and gain access to the freebie library. Once subscribed, you will receive an email with instructions to access the library.
If you have any problems signing up, please send an email to [email protected] , and I will sign you up manually.
5. Print the Map
Print the map using Adobe Reader (free program) and select “Poster” paper size and handling ( check out All Things Encaustic for more details on this print method ).
Tip : Do you want to print the map template on one sheet? You can have the file printed at Staples, FedEx Kinkos, or a similar location.
6. Outline the Map
Cut out the sections of the map and lay it on the chalkboard so that it looks like the map of the United States. Then, use a chalk marker to outline your map on the chalkboard.
7. Cut Out Your States
After you have outlined the entire map, cut out each state and outline them individually. Slowly, but surely it will begin to look like a map.
8. Determine a Color-Coding System
Next, determine a color-coding system for the places you visit. We used the following key:
- green for parks,
- blue for lakes/oceans,
- yellow for theme parks/museums,
- and red for cities.
9. Place Dots on the Map
Use map dots / map markers to place color-coded dots on the map to represent the locations your family has visited.
10. Create the Map Key
If you’re using the same location types, print the free printable map key on cardstock and cut to size. Follow the instructions, below, to download the map key PDF.
Note: If you already completed the signup for the map printable in step #4, you can skip this sign up form. The map template and map key will both be available in the free printable library .
11. Attach the Map Key
To finish up your map, put sticky tack on the back of the map key and attach it to the map.
DIY Travel Map
Once you have finished your DIY travel map, it’s time to hang it up for everyone to enjoy. Place it above your fireplace, in your living room, dining room, or wherever you choose. In our home, the family travel map is in the loft between my kids’ rooms.
It’s the focal piece of a travel gallery wall which features souvenirs and art from places we’ve visited. I’ll be sharing more about this space, soon.
As you travel to new places, simply add the dot stickers to the map. It’s a fun family activity that we look forward to doing when we return home. We split up the destinations we visited, and let each child add a few markers.
Now, keep traveling until you’ve visited every place you dreamed of visiting!

5 Ideas How to Create a Beautiful Travel Photo Gallery At Home
A push pin travel map is a great tool to recollect your past travel adventures, mark visited places, and plan future trips. To make this unique travel accessory even more meaningful and personal, itâs worth combining it with a travel pictures gallery â this way, your warmest travel memories with never be lost.
Adding pictures to your travel map lets you not only imagine the places you have visited or plan to visit, but you can actually see them. A beautiful travel photo gallery at home will also become a conversation-starter when friends or family come for a visit.
Weâd like to share with you 5 ideas on how to combine your travel map with a photo gallery. Every idea has its pros and cons â so choose whichever suits you best!
1. Pinning pictures on your travel map.
One of the easiest ways to combine your travel map with pictures is to pin them directly onto the map. Just pin a photo with some famous landmark or an interesting travel moment next to a certain place youâve visited. You can also add a specific date and place of where the photo was taken.
- Travel pictures will make your map feel more personal and meaningful.
- Such a picture gallery doesnât take additional space â all you need is enough space to hang the travel map itself.
- Pinning pictures on the travel map is super easy â the only thing you need is pins.
- This idea will work best if you have a large-format map â if your map is small, there simply wonât be enough space to pin a lot of photos.
2. Hanging pictures around the travel map.
Another way to create a travel photo gallery at home is by hanging pictures on the wall around the map. If you decide to frame them as well, your gallery will look even more beautiful and professional, always reminding you of your best travel memories.
- Such a photo gallery can be created using a travel map of any size. Even next to a small map, you can hang lots of pictures of different formats.
- The pictures donât have to be specifically connected to the certain places marked on the map — you can hang pictures from different trips in any order you want.
- A gallery with framed pictures draws attention from your guests and becomes a highlight of your interior.
- Hanging pictures around the map requires extra space. If you want to hang a lot of pictures, youâll need a large wall.
- To hang framed photos on the wall, youâll need special tools. Drilling or hammering in the nails can also ruin the wall.
3. Travel picture gallery with strings.
Another interesting and original idea is hanging pictures around the map, then adding strings that connect them with a specific place on the map. This is like a combination of the first two ideas: the pictures are hung outside of the map, but not randomly â theyâre all linked to a certain trip or country you have visited. In this case, you can hang both framed and unframed pictures.
- Such a photo gallery is visually appealing and looks attractive.
- It can be created using a travel map of any size.
- One specific place can be connected with several pictures from the same trip â no need to choose just one!
- You need to have enough extra space around the map to hang the pictures.
- If you hang too many pictures and add too many strings, the map will look too chaotic and busy, and the strings might cover big parts of the map.
4. Travel map on a wall covered with photos.
If you have a large collection of travel pictures and itâs hard to choose just a few of them, you can create a home gallery wall entirely covered in photos. Simply hang the map in your chosen place, and then stick your travel photos all around on the wall.
- No need to pick out only a few best travel pictures â you can add a large number of various photos and combine different formats.
- No need to frame the photos.
- No need to link the photos with specific places marked on the map.
- Such a photo gallery can be created using a travel map of any size.
- You need to have enough extra space around the map to stick your pictures.
- A wall entirely covered in pictures can look a bit busy, and the travel map wonât be so noticeable (especially if itâs of smaller size).
5. Travel map next to a shelf with pictures.
A shelf, a chest of drawers, a desk, or another similar surface is a great place to exhibit nicely framed travel pictures and other souvenirs. If you donât want to hang your photos on a wall or pin them on a map â a simple shelf with pictures might be a good solution. A travel map can be hung above the shelf or right next to it.
- You donât need extra space on the wall to hang the pictures.
- Placing the pictures on the shelf is super simple, and you can also easily move them, switch them with each other, etc.
- Next to the framed photos, you can also place other travel souvenirs, memorabilia, books, etc.
- A shelf can be hung next to a travel map of any size.
- A regular shelf is usually not big enough to fit a lot of pictures â youâll need to choose a few best ones to be exhibited.

Tips and Ideas to Create the Perfect Travel Photo Book
Whenever you travel, you make amazing memories. From the food you try to the sights you see and the people you meet, you won't want to forget a single second of it. Travel photo books are the perfect way to document all those amazing and unique experiences you have when traveling.
What Are Photo Books?
Photo books are like photo albums, but they're much easier to make. With photo books, you take the pictures from your phone's gallery or social media and print them directly onto the pages. From there, you can change the photo order, add and remove images, add captions, and more to create the perfect keepsake.
People make photo books to celebrate many different events and occasions, including graduations, birthdays, the holidays, and anniversaries. They also make great gifts for your loved ones.
Why a Travel Book?
Photo books are the perfect way to save special memories. From the pictures we take with our friends and family to our favorite photos of our pets, these keepsakes ensure we never lose a single moment.
With this logic, it only makes sense to make a travel book. The memories we make on our travels are unlike any other. Rather than endlessly scrolling through social media to find the dozens of pictures you've taken, photo books offer a way to capture and keep all your best travel moments in one place. Every flick of a page will take you back to that unforgettable trip.
Most photo book sites let you add text, change the order of the images, and more to create a beautiful adventure book you can proudly display on your bookshelf or coffee table .
Travel Photo Book Ideas and Tips
Looking for travel book inspiration? Our tips and ideas are sure to help you make the travel book of your dreams.
Stick to One Destination Per Book
If you're an avid traveler, the memories of each trip you take may blur together, especially if you tend to backpack or visit multiple destinations at a time. Sticking to one destination per book will help you organize your photos and memories into categories, so you never miss a single one.
For example, if you took a trip around Europe, theme each book on a single country you visited. Fill the pages with images from Switzerland only, and then make a separate one for France. In the end, you'll have a whole plethora of books filled with adventures.
Plan out your Photo Book in Advance
This tip may add time to the process, but it will help ensure you get the custom photo book of your dreams. Decide whether you want to organize your photos in chronological order or if you want to leave your favorite photos for the end of the book.
For example, carefully select the images you want and plan out the details you'd like to include in each caption.Â
Some sites will offer different backgrounds, fonts, and more. Experiment with page layout options and photo order, and you may find some creative ideas to house your most precious memories.
Take the Time to Edit your Photos
Whether you're saving vacation photos, pictures from a weekend getaway, or snaps you took during your favorite road trips, you can make a travel book you're truly proud of with a few photo edits. Even if photography isn't your strong suit, or if you're a total beginner, you can still learn a few tips.
If you've taken all your photos on your phone, we have a few mobile phone editing tips that will make them stand out and help create a professional-looking book you can be proud of.
Create a Food Travel Book
One of the best things about traveling is the food. Whether you're crossing the ocean or just going up the road, you're bound to find a million new, fun places to eat and new foods to try. No travel book is complete without the occasional food snap, but what about a book dedicated solely to food? If you like to cook yourself, you'll have endless pages of inspiration for meals to try out!Â
This is one of the best travel photo books for a foodie.
Group Certain Photos Together
From meals out to days spent soaking up the sun on the beach, and those afternoons sightseeing, grouping your photos by the events will help you create a consistent book. If you're traveling with your loved ones, group photos of your friends and family together.
You don't just have to group in terms of events, days, and people - why not create a timeline of your trip, from start to finish? Timeline photo books are great if you have many adventures to talk about; you can ensure you won't miss a single story.
Different photo book sights will offer different layouts, so you can easily find a beautiful and creative way to group your travel photos together.
Add in a Map of Where you Were
Contrary to popular belief, you don't just have to add in your own travel photos. Instead, spice up your travel photo book with other fun inserts, such as a map of where you were. If you don't have one to hand, a quick Google or Pinterest search will bring up a range of different options. This way, you'll always be able to see which part of the world you were in.
A map would also make a great cover photo for your travel photo book!
Use Captions to Tell a Story
Our adventures are usually full of fun and interesting stories, whether passed on from the people we meet or the memories we make on our own. Put your photos in chronological order and use the captions to tell a story. If you're not a wordsmith, don't worry! It doesn't have to be an essay; just a few details will be enough to set the scene.
If you tend to take a travel journal with you, a story photo book is a fun theme to try - you'll already have all the right words to say! This way, you'll never forget a detail.
Some photo book sites (such as Printed Memories) will automatically upload dates from your social media and drop them in the photo book. So if you're not sure what happened when but have been avidly uploading to social media, you're good to go.
Spend Time on the Cover Photo
This tip is as important as all the others above (perhaps even the most important.) The cover of your photo book deserves some thought; it reflects the photo book in its entirety.Â
As mentioned above, you could find a map of the world and make that the cover of your travel photo book. Maybe you want a cover photo highlighting a special memory you made on your trip or the amazing people you met. Whatever cover picture you decide on, it should be something you love looking at - an image you're proud to show off.
Honorable Mentions
Are you looking for even more inspiration? Here are a few more travel book ideas for your consideration.
A family and friends photo book: Sometimes great adventures have everything to do with the people you make memories with. Capture all your loved ones in a fun travel album dedicated especially to them.
An Instagram travel book: If you have an Instagram account dedicated to your travels, why leave those pretty pictures on the screen? Print your images in a photo book. Most book builders (such as Printed Memories) offer instant uploads from your social media.
A road trip book: This is a great theme if you're forever taking road trips across the country. Capture street signs, scenery, and more to create a book filled with every adventure from the road.
A photo book dedicated to your kids: If you travel with your children, this fun theme will ensure you never miss a memory with them. And anyone who has children will know that traveling with them is an adventure in itself.
Your favorite places: If you're an avid traveler, chances are, you've been to a lot of different places. Why not create an album that's filled with every single location you've visited? It'll be a book you'll love to browse through.
A yearly vacation album: If you tend to take a trip every calendar year, why not save your adventures in a vacation album? Fill the pages with your favorite images, whether you're relaxing by the pool or seeing the sites.
Printed Memories Photo Books
Printed Memories photo books are super fun and easy to make. Now you have your theme in mind, things just got a whole lot easier! Add pages, change the photo order, and pull in captions from social media. And, with a book that builds itself, do it all in five minutes.
Not only that, Printed Memories plants one tree for every single book they print. So not only are you saving your travel memories - you're helping to save the planet, too!
Click here to build your Printed Memories photo book.
Creating the perfect travel photo book doesn't have to be a headache. You could organize and edit pictures straight from your phone. Our themes, tips, and ideas above are sure to make the process easier. And why just make one book? When you start creating, you'll find it's hard to stop.

When I’m not travelling, one of the things that keeps me sane is surrounding myself with travel inspiration in all forms, whether it’s obsessively reading blogs or adding worldly touches to my home decor ( like this stupidly adorable savings bank shaped like a suitcase ).
And so, in the spirit of treating roamsickness with more travel dreams (probably a terrible idea but idk I’m not a doctor), here’s a roundup of some of the most beautiful and wickedly awesome travel-related DIY projects that I could scour on the interwebs.
Pin these ideas for later:
1. Dazzling light-up world map
Through an absolutely genius use of Christmas lights, this beautiful map by Hazel and Ruby showcases where you’ve been in the world and is brilliantly customizable and simple to create. Bonus points for their lovely travel-themed display, and sweet globe collection.
[pin]https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/367958232030782233[/pin]
2. DIY Vintage Pushpin Map
This simple and tasteful way to showcase your wanderlust is absolutely perfect. I am in love with DIY Vintage Pushpin Map from Mountain Modern Life because it’s minimalist enough to avoid tackiness, while still showing off your love of travel and all the places you’ve been. I can’t wait to put one of these up on my wall!
[pin]https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/676454806509937500/[/pin]
3. Personalized photo map
This adorable photo map from Adventurista AZ is so cute, it almost makes me want to vomit! Seriously, can you handle the nauseating sweetness? Admittedly, this is a genius idea that I wish I had come up with first, but this one’s no doubt going on my (ahem *secret*) travel-themed wedding Pinterest board
[pin]https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/223983781455969170/[/pin]
4. Miniature map magnets
These mini map magnets from Surviving a Teacher’s Salary are not just adorable, but also rather classy (like a posh chihuahua having high tea). They can be made in just a few minutes, so they’re ideal for a quick and easy gift for that travel lover in your life.

Great stuff! My daughter’s party theme this year is travel (she’s 4 and has been traveling all over the world!), and I might use some of these ideas. Thanks for sharing!
What an awesome theme for a birthday party!! I hope you take plenty of photos and blog about it đ Can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
This is awesome! I love the photo wall, I’ve been collecting postcards as o go so that when I finally settle for more than 6 months I can do that! Great post đ
Thanks, Lauren! Yes isn’t the photo wall gorgeous? I used to collect postcards too but these days I prefer to just take photos of my own that I really love. My plan is to one day print my favourites out, frame them and make a massive gallery wall. So many ideas!! đ
Omg stop as soon as I have a home again after this trip I’m doing ALL OF THESE. I’m so stoked! Loved this post!!
What a great post! These are some great craft ideas… Totally pinning for later đ Thank you!
I love the travel jars – I actually started doing something very similar myself but with smaller craft jars. When I was about to leave the UAE where I had been living and working for eight months, I took some of the sand from our beach and our volleyball pitch and kept a few teeny tiny shells. I also looked after our fish tanks and had a pet hermit crab: when he met his final end, I kept his claw (possibly slightly weird?!) and the operculum from one of our snails that the before mentioned hermit crab ate, and stuck them all in the jar. I also had some absolutely tiny glass bottles for using in jewellery craft, and I put sand and two miniscule shells in them, and gifted them to my team before I left đ
Wow what a thoughtful and beautiful goodbye gift!! Those sound really beautiful, and such a good way to make use of souvenirs that would otherwise sit and collect dust. I’m guilty of hoarding random bits wherever I go, so to make them into something decorative would at least make my hoarding habit productive haha.
oh wow! love these ideas:)
Happy to hear that, Tanja!! Hope you get to try a few out.
Love this post! Definitely pinning it on my board “After Travel”. đ How cute is the map and travel shelf?! Will be doing that myself! Once. If I have time. Love the wooden travel map as well, and the gallery wall of course! So many great ideas, so little time. Thanks for this awesome collection of great travel related DIY ideas!
An ‘After Travel’ board is such a good idea!! I find that surrounding myself with travel memories/travel-inspired decor helps a lot with post-holiday blues… that and obsessive Pinteresting of course haha.
oh my god!!! those are so amazing! love all of them so much! now i’ll need a bigger home to fit all of them into my place đ I actually do have a travel diy project as well where i live. it is a string art map pinned on my wall!
Oooh I’ve seen some of those online. They’re cool as well!! My friend has a corkboard map with custom location pins. It’s really neat.
I love these! 4 5 and 6 are my favourites! #6 is such a great way to store all though travel bits and bobs! â¤
So hard to pick favourites! But yes those ones are great… and honestly so simple and genius. I have tons of random things I’ve collected over my travels so it’s always good to find ideas on how to put them to use (rather than have them collect dust).
I love the ideas and I’m gonna save some of those for our future apartment decoration! I wish we had tons of old suitcases so I could make a coffee table for every single room!
Hahah that was my thought too… “Dang where do I buy vintage suitcases in bulk?” Happy crafting!! đ
Nice and inspiring post! I really love the globe :-).
Thanks Kimberley! Happy you liked it đ
Loving the ideas! I started doing a travel scrapbook about all my past travels đ
Ahh I used to love scrapbooking! I have a massive collection of papers and stickers but haven’t really sat down to make anything in the past few years. I should definitely get back into it.
So I’ve read this just as I’m settling in for a full day of work… Now all I can think about is travel and how much I want all of these things in my life… I applaud you for your distraction worth and wanderlust inducing post! Now, which should I make first? ;-P
Choosing is too tough so I would go with… all of them đ
I love all of these ideas!
Thanks for reading, Rachel! đ
Whoa!!! I can’t wait to have a home base so I can do some of these wonderful maps haha
Haha cool map decor is one of the very few things that makes a travel blogger actually want a home base đ
You made such an awesome list! I am definitely going to try atleast some of these out. You actually gave me a healthy amount of ideas for home- decor!
So many great ideas. Need to do that suitcase table
Wow some fantastic ideas here. Thanks. I already put pins in my map of the world but I love the idea of the luggage labels with the photos. I was wondering how to attach photos to the places in a nice way. I have now found my way. Another which jumped out at me is the suitcase table. So beautiful. Thanks you so much for sharing these wonderful ideas.
Some fantastic ideas here Christina! I love the idea of the keepsake boxes. They would be wonderful to look through years later.
These ideas are all so perfect I just want to do them all! I think I’ll start with the Postcard Travel Journal đ
I only need to decide now what project to start first! Love your collection of ideas and have shared on my fb page for my travel loving readers also đ Annette
Thanks for sharing, Annette! đ
So many great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome! Thanks for reading đ
These are so cute!! I have a map and postcard obsession.
Haha same here! hope you got a few good ideas for future projects đ
This blog is really cool. I have bookmarked it. Do you allow guest post on your site ? I can provide high quality posts for you. Let me know.
Just found you through Meg Cale who mentioned you on Facebook!
Love this post and all about reading your Start Here and other posts!
Love these ideas!!
I love these ideas! My husband has been collecting globes for decades (think about that – he’s pretty old) and I am going to use these ideas to give his office some pizzazz. Here’s my question: Where do you even get maps these days? Everything is on the internet, even though I love maps. If you have suggestions, I would love to know. Thanks. Jean Ann
Hey Jean, that is awesome! He must have such a huge collection by now. RE: The maps – depending on what kind of maps you’re looking for, you can easily buy them online. Amazon would be a good bet I think!
Hey Christina your blogs are awesome! I can see you have 74k shares of this post on pinterest! Congrats!! Can you guide me on how you do such amazing work on pinterest?
Hey Sankalp, I actually run a social media blog with another amazing blogger (who is a Pinterest specialist). Check it out for loads of tips: https://slayingsocial.com/
Wow, these DIY projects are really beautiful. DIY projects are attracting me. So, I’m waiting for your upcoming DIY posts. Thank you for sharing this post.

20 Travel-Inspired Decorating Ideas to Evoke Your Favorite Destination
Showcase globes, maps, suitcases, and other accessories from your travels throughout your home.
Andrea Beck served as garden editor at BHG and her work has appeared on Food & Wine, Martha Stewart, MyRecipes, and more.
Most everyone has souvenirs from their travels, whether itâs shells from the beach, novelty T-shirts, or even just plenty of photos. Luckily, there are plenty of both subtle and bold ways to incorporate your love for travel into your home.
Hanging photos is simple, but you can also turn them into a statement by creating a gallery wall or even unique wallpaper. Or use photos of places you dream of going, maps, or subway routes for more graphic, abstract art. Small touches can also add elements of travel to your home. Vintage suitcases come in many colors and can be displayed to add extra storage or serve as an end table. Use these travel decor ideas as inspiration, then adapt them to fit your favorite places and trips.
Seashell Display
Cameron Sadeghpour
Large seashells from a beach vacation double as tabletop travel decor and as a way to display Polaroids. Smaller shells can also nest inside a larger shell as a way to show them off on a shelf or table. Place them next to a blue glass lamp reminiscent of sea glass to tie the coastal theme into the rest of the room.
Abstract Travel Wall Decor
Adam Albright
City maps make stunning travel wall decor and are a great way to remember some of your favorite (or dream) destinations. These pictures lean abstract, using the city streets to create a leaf-like design. The shades of green used on each map complement dark green wall paint .
Subtle Travel Decor
Ann VanderWiel Wilde
Small accents can help show your love for a destination without dominating a room. In this alcove, a simple metal sign shaped like the state of Minnesota hangs above a rustic dresser with other memorabilia. This travel wall decor fits into almost any room and can take the shape of a favorite country or city skyline.
Map Wall Art
Using maps as wall decor is an easy way to incorporate graphic art in muted pastel colors. Despite varying color palettes, this trio of maps feels cohesive thanks to neutral frames with white mats. Bold navy walls help further showcase the travel decor.
Suitcase Bar Cart
Cocktails (or zero-proof drinks ) can definitely be part of a great vacation, so itâs only natural to incorporate travel decor into your home bar cart . A vintage suitcase is the focal point of this bar cart and acts as unique storage for a variety of bottles and bar tools. Antique drawers contain glassware and match the feel of the old-fashioned suitcase.
Seashell Storage
Brie Williams
Seashells are a popular beach souvenir, but finding a place to store them can be tricky. These embellished boxes are a beautiful way to display shells. Each box features a mosaic of shells while also providing storage on a living room mantel . Complete the look with other ocean souvenirs, like driftwood or sea glass, and vases and artwork with blue accents.
Entryway Travel Decor
David A Land
Display travel decor in your homeâs entryway for a reminder of your favorite destinations every time you walk in the door. This console table includes a travel bag that's ready to be grabbed for any adventure. Houseplants also help give the space a tropical feel, and the tabletop provides a surface to display travel photos.
Travel Wallpaper
In addition to small accents, you can also add travel decor to your home on a larger scale. World maps paper the walls of this bedroom . The muted colors complement natural wood furniture and blue accents on the bed. The wallpaper contributes eye-catching texture without overwhelming the space.
Showcase Souvenirs
KIM CORNELISON
This living room features several souvenirs that work together in a subtle way. A gallery wall incorporates map artwork; its bright colors and abstract shapes coordinate with a globe perched on top of a bookcase. A bright blue vintage suitcase on one shelf nods to vacationing and pairs well with the navy velvet sofa .
Historical Wall Decor
Alisal Ranch
These large-scale framed maps act almost as an accent wall in this dining space. It includes historical boundaries and territory lines from the early days of the U.S., and its rustic appearance matches the wood-plank wall and vintage chairs. A large map can also serve as a way of tracking your travels across the country.
Bookshelf Display
If you enjoy collecting art on your travels, display them together on a shelf to blend souvenirs with your personal style. This bookcase includes a variety of vases, figurines, and sculptures from a variety of destinations. Natural materials like wood and earthy colors tie everything together.
Mural Accent Wall
John Bessler
Large-scale wallpaper prints can be overwhelming, but using them on an accent wall is a stylish way to add a bold pattern to a room. This living room has a tropical feel thanks to the blue and green mural of palm trees. The colors tie in with the area rug, and the graphic print contrasts the black-and-white striped seating.
Vibrant Color Palette
Dustin Halleck
The rich jewel tones of this library create a luxurious feeling. Stacked vintage suitcases serve as an end table while matching a floral rug and dark cobalt walls. Shelves near the seating area provide an opportunity to display travel souvenirs like prints, decorative boxes, and figurines.
Surfing Inspiration
Chad R. Mellon
Add a nod to the beach without displaying shells or pictures of the coast. Instead, hang a surfboard patterned with typography for a sunny, ocean vibe that upgrades a blank wall. Pair with a wood vanity and blue bathroom floor tiles for a casual coastal aesthetic.
Photo Wall Treatment
A repeating pattern of coastal photos creates a bold but still neutral wallpaper in this bedroom. Customize walls with your own photos, or find a print that features professional photos from a dream destination. Pair with a blue painted ceiling and geometric light fixture to turn the room into a beachy paradise.
Coastal Travel Decor
Bring the beach to a small area of your home. In this room, seashells and starfish are displayed alongside ceramics featuring shades of blue. The seaside collection and cool colors help bring a coastal feel to a section of the room where dishes and serving platters are stored.
DIY Nightstand
CARSON DOWNING
Vintage suitcases take on a new function with this DIY bedroom decor. Stack three on top of each other to create just the right height for a nightstand next to the bed . Pair with a lampshade patterned with a map of the country to really highlight a travel theme.
Tropical Decor
Carson Downing
Large-scale botanical wallpaper creates a tropical aesthetic in this bedroom. The print complements green painted flooring and a leafy bedspread. Natural accents, including a woven leather headboard and rattan side table, make this room feel like a tropical destination.
Decorate with Globes
Kritsada Panichgul.
Go all-out with travel decor with a shelf full of globes. Here, the globes feature similar colors and are grouped by size for a cohesive look. Instead of buying new globes, shop secondhand or thrift stores for vintage varieties.
Dining Room Souvenir Display
Several decor items work together to create travel-inspired style in this dining room . A large print of a beach scene provides seaside inspiration, while a large shell and a piece of driftwood act as centerpieces for the table and credenza. A pendant light with natural fibers completes the look.

A 50 States Photo Map: The Best Way To Display Your Travel Adventures
We just got this awesome 50 States Photo Map, to document all our travels as a family. We love it so much! It's a great conversation starter, and pretty much everyone who sees it compliments it.
We've done hours of research, and the Thunder Bunny personalized USA Photo Map is easily the best option. It's the right size, has a very fair price point, and can be personalized by color/font/style. It comes with three different choices of frames that are the perfect depth for their multiple layers of die-cut mats. Best of all, they provide handy software that lets you customize your photos to the exact size and shape you need, and easily send them to a photo printer.
If you're going to make a personalized USA photo map, this is the way to go!
The 50 States Photo Map is available at Amazon , Etsy , and the Thunder Bunny Labs website . I recommend clicking through each to see if they are running a sale on one platform and not the other.
This is a fantastic gift! It could be an anniversary gift for your spouse, or a wedding gift for a new couple, or any kind of birthday or holiday! You can personalize it and wrap it up - your choice if you gather and print the pictures for them, or let them pick their favorites with you.
Read on for all the details about how this personalized USA picture map works.
It's made of 5 layers.
You can personalize it..
- There are 3 different frame styles.
The Thunder Bunny Labs Map Maker
Here's what you need to fill a 50 states photo map:, option 1: estimated cost of using walgreens to print, option 2: use an online printer to save, option 3: photo stickers now available, cutting out and affixing your photos, how big is it, not sure if this is the right option, amazing gift: a 50 states photo map to show off travel pictures.
One of the things that makes this option the best 50 states photo map is that it comes with several layers of mat and background. This adds really nice depth to the overall display, making it look very classy and high-quality.
First there's the cardboard layer (#1) that makes everything fit snugly, but this is completely covered by the actual background layer (#2). This layer is printed with the states in neutral colors, which will show until you visit them and add a photo. You'll cut out your states and use double-sided tape to attach the photos to this layer.
Then there is a white die-cut layer (#3) of all the state outlines. The beauty of this layer is that it makes all your states look clean and precise, even if you didn't cut them out perfectly! Some of those states are tricky, with all their jagged edges and river boundaries.
I think that this layer is what makes your finished map look so professional, and what makes the Thunder Bunny 50 States Photo Map way better than the competition.
Then there is a laser-cut mat (#4) that just has the outline of the continental US plus Alaska and Hawaii. This mat adds another layer of depth to the finished product, and also comes in several colors!
You can choose from a medium gray (called Driftwood), a medium blue (called Caribbean), a dark green (Zucchini), Sienna, White, or Black. There is also an option that has the bordering states printed on it like an actual map so that Canada and Mexico are visible.
I ended up choosing the white mat since I wanted our pictures to pop against the white color.
Finally, there's a clear acrylic layer (#5) to protect all your photos. This layer comes with lined with plastic on both sides to protect it from any scratches while shipping.
All those layers come super well protected in a shipping box.
Thunder Bunny has 4 options for what style of words you can add to the USA Photo Map. There are different fonts and placements, depending on what you like. Then when you order you just list which numbered style you want and what words those should be.
The personalization is on the top map layer. We got our family name printed on it, to keep track of all the places our family has traveled together.
This is the link for the personalized version from Amazon . This is the link for the personalized version from Etsy .
A personalized US photo map would make a really sweet wedding present for a new couple! You can add their names and wedding year to several of the options.
There are 3 different frame styles .
You can choose a frame from Thunder Bunny in white, black, or weathered gray. It comes super well packaged, with all the corners protected in a big box.
Of course, you can buy this US photo map unframed, but it's much easier to get the frame they have already prepared to fit their product perfectly.
Basically, all these options mean you can absolutely create a personalized USA Photo Map, in whatever color scheme or style you want!
I debated a lot about the frame color and ended up going with the gray frame. I think the black would have been really classy too though!
How Do You Make The Photos Shaped Like A State?
Printing state-shaped photos sounds like it could be a huge headache. Everyone wonders "how do you get the photos in the right shape?"
Don't worry - this company has already solved the problem.
Thunder Bunny offers a map maker on their website, that lets you upload pictures and print them in the exact size you need!
It is truly genius, and the only way I would have undertaken a project like this.
Here's the mapmaker site: https://www.thunderbunnylabs.com/mapmaker
You'll have to make an account, but it's super easy and convenient to have all your pictures available in their software. Then pick your template; I wanted the 50 states picture map template, but you can pick whatever one you're working on.
Then, you click a state and upload the photos you want to put in that state. You can drag and drop a photo into the template, or find it in your files.
The map-maker has functions to scale, rotate, and move your photo around the state template. It makes it super easy to adjust your picture to be the most pleasing in some of those odd shaped states!
You can even add multiple photos to each state to make a collage . (None of their competitors have this ability!) This is super helpful for bigger states like Texas and California, or frankly any of them. You can add up to 10 photos per state.
One of the things I loved was that you can preview what your map looks like as you make it! Each state fills in on your map as you add pictures to it, and everything is saved for each time you print a batch of photos.
That makes it easier to choose between picture options when you can see what states it borders.
For example, you might realize a scenery shot looks better next to a close-up in a bordering state. If you care about aesthetics, this really helps you design a really beautiful 50 States Picture Map.
How Much Does It Cost To Print Photos ?
After you've used the map maker, you have three options to fill your US Photo Map.
- You can print your photos at Walgreens using the built-in function
- You can download the files and print them at a printer of your choice.
- Or, their NEW option is to order photo stickers (no cutting necessary!)
Walgreens is obviously super convenient, especially if you want to use same-day pickup. It's a matter of only a few clicks and they go right to Walgreens. (You don't order in the Walgreens website or app - just start in the Thunder Bunny Labs site and it connects it automatically.)
Or, you can just download the files and print them where ever you'd like. To do this, you just click the green Print To Walgreens button and you'll see the dropdown option to download a JPG file.
Either way, you'll need a certain number of 8x10 and 5x7 images to fit the larger states, and then everything else goes on 4x6 prints.
We calculated 3 big 8x10 inch prints (for California, Texas, and Alaska), 8 medium 5x7 inch prints (for the states like Nevada, Montana, Utah, etc), and then 39 more 4x6 inch prints for the smaller states.
One of the things I really like about Thunder Bunny's map maker is that it automatically combines small states onto a 4x6 print if they can fit them. For example, Hawaii fits nicely on a 4x6 print with many different small states like Ohio.
It's cheaper to combine states where you can, but how much money you save just depends on the order you are ready to print your photos.
The Map Maker is automatically set up to print at Walgreens. It's super easy to just click the "send to Walgreens" button and choose your location. You can even use the same-day pickup to get your prints in about an hour!
Your estimated cost would be:
3 Large States x $3.99 = $11.97 8 Medium States x $2.99 = $23.92 <39 Small States x $0.35 = 13.65 Total: $49.54 to print at Walgreens
It's about $50 total to print all the photos you need at Walgreens for your 50 states picture map.
You could also save out your images from the map maker, and then print them somewhere else.
Online printers such as Mpix and Shutterfly usually offer better quality prints and often have sales that make them cheaper than a local big box store.
However, you'll also have to include shipping fees and whether or not you can combine it with other products to hit free shipping.
Your costs will vary here, depending on sales and their pricing. But here's the same scenario at other retailers.
Printing at Mpix (Full Price listed, but there are often sales)
3 Large States (8x10) x $2.99 = $8.97 8 Medium states (5x7) x $1.49 = $11.92 <39 Small state (4x6) x $0.33 = $12.87 Total: $33.97 to print at Mpix.
Printing at Shutterfly (Full Price listed, but there are always sales)
3 Large States (8x10) x $3.95 = $11.85 8 Medium states (5x7) x $0.99 = $7.92 <39 Small state (4x6) x $0.18 = $7.02 Total: $26.79 to print at Shutterfly.
Obviously, it all depends on how many states you're printing, shipping costs, and if you want the convenience of same-day pickup or you're willing to wait. The beauty of it is you can make that decision each time you print states for your USA Picture Map!
Mpix or Shutterfly will give you cheaper prints if you have a lot of large states, so that might be a good option for your first order.
But if you're only printing a few at a time then Walgreens is quite convenient, especially since it's all connected inside the Map Maker system. You choose!
Thunder Bunny Labs now offers printed photo stickers of your photos! It's one of the options in the dropdown. These stickers are precut in the correct size and shape - just peel and stick, no cutting.
The only trick is that stickers change the cost of filling your map considerably. However, it might be worth it for the time and effort of cutting out the states yourself.
Your cost for stickers would be:
5 Large States x $5.00 = $25 35 Medium States x $2.50 = $87.50 10 Small State x $1.25 = $12.50 Total = $125 to fill your map with Thunder Bunny Labs Stickers
So it's 2-3x as expensive as printing photos and cutting them yourself. It's certainly convenient, so if you're not crafty, this might be a good option!
Once the photos were printed, we found it really easy to cut out our images. They are already perfectly sized, so it was just cutting them out on the line!
Since I had a ton of pictures to add at once, we just had a cutting party and got them all done in a few minutes.
One of the beauties of the multiple layers is that you didn't have to be perfect about all those crazy river boundaries! The photos will be sitting behind a die-cut inner "window" layer with all the states, which makes the finished product look super professional.
I didn't cut out individual Hawaii islands either, since the layers would cover that up too.
Then I just laid that bottom state layer on the floor, and used double-sided tape to attach all the photos ...It was way easier than making tape loops! Once your photos are all on the bottom layer, just stack up the layers and carefully slide them into your frame.
This frame is especially awesome because it's deep enough for 5 layers and is very durable, for taking things in and out a lot. Just flip it over and hang your USA picture map. Tada!
This 50 States Photo Map is 36x48 inches (3 ft by 4 ft). The 5 layers are all the same, and stacked together.
I chose to buy the frame directly from them, and it's high-quality. The included frame adds another two inches on every side, and it comes with heavy-duty hardware already attached. It also has cool clips that make it easy to access the back of the map, to slide your layers in and out.
The Thunder Bunny Labs frame is definitely the best option for a Personalized USA Photo Map. Even if I were to get a different frame on amazon, it's not likely it would be deep enough to handle their 5 different layers: (the cardboard back, the sheet you put the puts on, the cutouts of each state, the cutout of the entire US, and the clear plastic layer.) So I was very pleased with this frame.
Everything comes super well protected in a shipping box. We had no issues with chips, scratches, or anything.
Overall, we were incredibly impressed with our 50 States Photo Map .
We've filled it with photos, and now we're itching to go on a back east trip! Since we're missing a whole lot of states over there. And darn Oregon, for some reason?!
It's been a delight to go through old pictures and reminisce with the kids about all the places they've been (about 30 states for the oldest kids - the younger ones missed a few trips we took before they were born.).
I think a USA picture map like this is an excellent present for someone who loves to travel or WANTS to travel. It's the perfect way to display some adventures and a great conversation starter.
You can buy this USA Photo Map is from Thunder Bunny Labs, which is widely available on Amazon , Etsy , or their own website .
I also did a write-up about other maps I researched, so you can save yourself some time and check that post for two other photo map options are out there .
However, I do believe that the Thunder Bunny Labs US Photo Map is the best pick - you really can't go wrong with the quality and cost!

With a new year comes new dreams, and I’m sure you’re as eagerly anticipating future adventures as I am. But why wait? You can start dreaming and planning right now, both for this year and beyond, with our travel vision board ideas.
A travel vision board is a creative tool used to visualize and manifest your dream vacations and travel experiences. It typically consists of a collage of images, words, and visuals that represent your desired destinations, experiences, and travel goals.
To create one, you’ll need to gather inspiring travel photos, maps, and brochures, and arrange them on a board or digitally. Add motivational quotes and personal touches, categorize your travel dreams and display it prominently to keep your wanderlust alive and inspire action towards your travel goals.
I like to make one every year to visualize my goals, both in travel & my life. So I have put together some easy tips to help you make your own.
Ready to dive into the step-by-step guide to designing your own vacation vision board? Let’s make sure your travel dreams come alive this year.
Table of Contents
How To Make A Travel Vision Board
A vision board uses the idea of the law of attraction, and the belief that what you focus on, you attract into your life.
Just remember “A dream without action is just a wish.” Without taking action, your vision won’t come to life magically. I like to think of this as the first step to making my dream vacation happen.
I love that this activity allows me to tap into my creativity, and keeps me inspired & motivated every day to work towards my goals. Plus there are great benefits:
- Keeps you focused on your goals
- Gets you excited about your plans
- Provides clarity around what is really important to you and your family
- Gives you a starting point to take action on your dreams
- It’s creative & fun
1. Gather Inspiration & Choose Your Focus
Decide what you want the focus of your vision board to be. It can be used for a single dream vacation, highlighting tours, attractions, foods, and experiences.
Alternatively, you can use a bigger one to plan for one or more years, detailing multiple trips.
I like to start with a destination I have in mind and look at travel blogs, magazines and social media for ideas and inspiration.
Write down all your ideas. There are no rules. They can be anything from a specific feeling, or mood, to activities like drinks served on the beach, to luxury accommodations with a kids club. Anything goes!
EXAMPLE : When planning my family beach vacation to Cuba I started with ideas like these:
- Playing in warm ocean waves with my daughter
- Sunset walks on the beach
- Mix of relaxing & fun active adventures
- Walk the Malacon
- Havana, Varadero
- Practice & learn more Spanish
- Eat at local paladars
- Old car tour
2. Decide The Format For Your Travel Vision Board
There are 3 main ways I like to make my vision boards; physical, digital and Pinterest boards.
There’s no wrong answer. You may even come up with another cool idea, like a slide show, video, sculpture, the sky’s the limit.
- Physical Vision Board : Uses a piece of poster board or paper, and cut out pieces of paper, words and quotes to glue onto it. You could also use a cork bord & pin pictures to it.
- Digital Vision Board: Uses your computer, or a program like Canva (what I use) to create a digital collage with pictures, words or quotes.
- Pinterest Board: Make a specific Pinterest board for your trip. Search for ideas, and save them to your board. You can make folders or just throw them all in.
When I’m feeling creative, a physical board is so satisfying. But Canva is super easy as they have plenty of digtal templates already you can use to just put your photos into.
The only downside to a digital copy is you’ll need to keep in on your phone / computer which may not be as regularly visible. Or you’ll need to find a way to print it out.
3. Gather Your Materials
Once you have your where and the format for your board, you’ll need to gather all your materials.
- Source your photos, quotes and words . You can find these in magazines, postcards, brochures or online with free photography sites like Unsplash, Pixabay, PicMonkey, or my favourite Canva. Google “travel quotes” or “family travel quotes” to get ideas for those. Check out our fave 150+ road trip quotes here .
- Grab physical materials & tools . For a physical board you’ll need poster board or paper, your pictures, quotes, scissors, glue or tape etc, depending on how you’re planning to make your board.
- Create a Pinterest Board . Name your board whatever you’re calling your trip (ex. Africa 2024, Summer Vacation, Rockies Road Trip etc.
4. Arrange Your Vision Board Content
Now comes the fun part where you dial up your creativity and arrange your content.
Invite some friends or family members to take part, and make a little party out of it. I’ve done this with friends on New Years to start the year off right. But you can do it anytime.
Some tips that have helped me to make trip collages more pleasing include:
- First start with a focal photo . Sometimes I use a picture of my family, sometimes it’s specific place, animal, quote or activity that is driving my travel desires. Arrange everything around it.
- Next choose your color scheme . Coolors is a great free tool to help you choose an overall, cohesive look. You can even upload one of your travel vision board photos and pick out colors from there to use.
- Mix up the size & positions of photos & words
- Mix up mediums . With a physical collage, use different types of paper (magazines, newspaper), paint, pencil crayons, cut out words or individual letters, different fonts, hand drawn pictures or stickers. Thrift stores or Dollar stores are great places to get cheap magazines, stickers, poster boards & other materials.
5. Display Your Board Where You’ll See It Everyday
Once you have your masterpiece, hang it somewhere you can see it everyday, to remind you of your focus for the year.
While this is easier when it’s a physical thing, you can always save it as your screensaver or background on your cell phone or computer.
6. Take Action
Without taking small actions every day or week to reach your travel goals, you may find yourself disappointed at the end of the year.
Maybe it’s learning how to save more money for travel & choosing one or two things to do.
Maybe it’s making a travel budget or finding ways to travel more affordably so the trip is more doable for you or your family.
Whatever your actions are, make sure they align with your travel & life goals.
Hey life happens. But do you want life to just happen to you, or do you want an amazing year accomplishing your travel goals?
My partner & I like to sit down every couple of weeks or so and review our budgets, goals, and actions to see if we are headed in the right direction. That way it’s easier to adjust if we get off course.
Final Thoughts: Travel Vision Board
Your beautiful travel vision board is your ticket to turning dreams into adventures.
Whether it’s a single destination or years of travel plans , this creative tool keeps your wanderlust alive.
With some inspiration, creativity, and a dash of motivation, I know you’ll be well on your way to making your dream vacations a reality. Start envisioning your journey today and let your travel dreams take flight!

Artwork is great to bring home.
One of my favourite ways to keep travel memories alive is to collect artwork from the various countries I’ve visited. I saw the monkey painting on my first day in Costa Rica. Solar eclipse maps show 2024 totality path, peak times and how much of the eclipse people could see across the U.S.
By Aliza Chasan
Updated on: April 9, 2024 / 5:00 AM EDT / CBS News
A total solar eclipse crossed North America Monday with parts of 15 U.S. states within the path of totality. Maps show where and when astronomy fans could see the big event as skies darkened in the middle of the day Monday, April 8.
The total eclipse first appeared along Mexico's Pacific Coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT, then traveled across a swath of the U.S., from Texas to Maine, and into Canada.
About 31.6 million people live in the path of totality , the area where the moon fully blocked out the sun , according to NASA. The path ranged between 108 and 122 miles wide. An additional 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path of totality.
Solar eclipse path of totality map for 2024
The total solar eclipse started over the Pacific Ocean, and the first location in continental North America that experienced totality was Mexico's Pacific Coast, around 11:07 a.m. PDT, according to NASA. From there, the path continued into Texas, crossing more than a dozen states before the eclipse enters Canada in southern Ontario. The eclipse exited continental North America at around 5:16 p.m. NDT from Newfoundland, Canada.
The path of totality included portions of the following states:
- Pennsylvania
- New Hampshire
Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan also experienced the total solar eclipse.
Several major cities across the U.S. were included in the eclipse's path of totality, while many others saw a partial eclipse. These were some of the best major cities for eclipse viewing — though the weather was a factor :
- San Antonio, Texas (partially under the path)
- Austin, Texas
- Waco, Texas
- Dallas, Texas
- Little Rock, Arkansas
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Dayton, Ohio
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Buffalo, New York
- Rochester, New York
- Syracuse, New York
- Burlington, Vermont
Map of when the solar eclipse reached totality across its path
The eclipse began in the U.S. as a partial eclipse beginning at 12:06 p.m. CDT near Eagle Pass, Texas, before progressing to totality by about 1:27 p.m. CDT and then moving along its path to the northeast over the following few hours.
NASA shared times for several cities in the path of totality across the U.S. People could have also checked their ZIP code on NASA's map to see when the eclipse was to reach them if they were on, or near, the path of totality — or if they saw a partial eclipse instead.
How much of the eclipse did people see if they live outside the totality path?
While the April 8 eclipse covered a wide swath of the U.S., outside the path of totality observers may have spotted a partial eclipse, where the moon covers some, but not all, of the sun, according to NASA. The closer they were to the path of totality, the larger the portion of the sun that was hidden.
NASA allowed viewers to input a ZIP code and see how much of the sun was to be covered in their locations.
Could there be cloud cover be during the solar eclipse?
Some areas along the path of totality had a higher likelihood of cloud cover that could interfere with viewing the eclipse. Here is a map showing the historical trends in cloud cover this time of year.
You could have checked the latest forecast for your location with our partners at The Weather Channel .
Where did the solar eclipse reach totality for the longest?
Eclipse viewers near Torreón, Mexico, got to experience totality for the longest. Totality there lasted 4 minutes, 28 seconds, according to NASA.
Most places along the centerline of the path of totality saw a totality duration of between 3.5 and 4 minutes, according to NASA. Some places in the U.S. came close to the maximum; Kerrville, Texas, had a totality duration of 4 minutes, 24 seconds.
What is the path of totality for the 2044 solar eclipse?
The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.
Astronomy fans in the U.S. will have far fewer opportunities to see the 2044 eclipse they had on April 8. NASA has not yet made maps available for the 2044 eclipse but, according to The Planetary Society , the path of totality will only touch three states.
The 2024 eclipse will start in Greenland, pass over Canada and end as the sun sets in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, according to the Planetary Society.

The world's most beautiful trees, in pictures
Have you ever taken the time to admire, really admire, nature? Itâs during times like these that we realize we take a lot of things for granted, including the beauty of what surrounds us. Until we can travel again, here are 20 stunning photos of trees to make you feel like youâre outside enjoying nature, without leaving your couch.
Maybe youâve seen a photo of a wisteria tree online and thought, âPhotoshop! Thereâs no way a tree can be that colourful!â But no, it really exists. The wisteria has beautiful draping purple (or blue) flowers that usually flower around springtime.
This photo was taken at Exbury Gardens in England.
Japanese maple
Is there anything as beautiful as orange, red, yellow, and green fall foliage? The Japanese maple combines the beauty of coloured leaves with what looks like a dancing trunk, full of movement.
Cherry blossom
Cherry blossoms are a fantastic spring treat in many regions of the world, from Japan to the United States. As its name states, the cherry blossom is a fruit tree, but it is at its most beautiful during the flowering season, when it is full of light pink and white blossoms.
This photo was taken in Novi Sad, Serbia.
South Carolinaâs Angel Oak is famous around the world, with good reason. Itâs a Southern live oak located on Johns Island, near Charleston. It features stunning spiderweb branches that go in all directions, making it a popular shaded picnic spot with locals.
Delonix regia
The Delonix regia , or flamboyant tree as it is more commonly known, features fire-red blooms. It grows in different regions of the world and is endemic to Madagascar.
This photo was taken at Cap Malheureux, Mauritius.
Dracaena cinnabari
The Dracaena cinnabari is more commonly known as the Socotra dragon tree, as it is native to Socotra Island in Yemen. It is also sometimes referred to as the dragon blood tree because it has a dark crimson resin.
Wanaka Tree
âThat Wanaka Treeâ became famous because of social media and was recently the victim of vandalism when someone cut off one of its branches. The tree is semi-submerged and stands alone at the southern tip of Lake Wanaka, in New Zealand.
Eucalyptus deglupta
Eucalyptus deglupta , or rainbow eucalyptus, is a stunning tree with a bark featuring a kaleidoscope of reds, greens, blues, and oranges.
This photo was taken in Maui, Hawaii.
Another stunning blue and purple-flowered tree, the jacaranda grows in many different areas around the world, from Asia to North America. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
This photo was taken in Pretoria, South Africa.
Adansonia grandidieri
There are many different species of baobabs. The one we usually think of when we hear the name is the Grandidierâs baobab, or Adansonia grandidieri . They have thick cylindrical trunks topped with short branches and a flat-leaf crown.
This photo was taken in Madagascar.
The Dark Hedges
The old beech trees themselves are beautiful, but itâs the row of trees that makes for such a unique spectacle. Northern Irelandâs Dark Hedges became even more famous in recent years thanks to Game of Thrones , in which they represent the Kingsroad. They have even become one of the most photographed places in the whole country !
Bristlecone pine
You can tell just by looking at them that the bristlecone pines are a resilient type. They are said to be some of the oldest trees in the world . They grow in the western United States.
This photo was taken in Inyo National Forest, California.
Sequoia trees are famous for their immense grandeur. They are among the tallest trees in the world, and the biggest is said to be General Sherman , located in Sequoia National Park, California. It stands 84 metres (275 feet) tall and has a 31-metre (102-foot) circumference.
Trees of Dead Vlei
This picture doesnât appear to be real, but it is. These skeleton trees are dead, and their trunks are now black, burned from the sun. They cannot decompose because the region, in the Namib Desert, is so dry . With the orange sand dunes in the background, it makes for quite a unique view.
The banyan , a fig tree, is easily identifiable thanks to far-reaching branches that create an almost spiderweb-like effect. It is Indiaâs national tree.
This photo was taken in Hawaii.
Couroupita guianensis
The Couroupita guianensis is more commonly known as the cannonball tree for obvious reasons: it features fruit in wooden shells that look exactly like cannonballs. It also produces beautiful and fragrant flowers.
It is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America.
The bamboo is the fastest-growing plant in the world , making it a popular choice for eco-friendly building materials. The tree by itself might seem plain, but there is something truly bewildering about a bamboo forest, which grows quite tall and can create a wall-like passageway. Just look at this picture for an example!
Taxodium distichum
The Taxodium distichum, or bald cypress, is native to the southeastern United States. It often grows right out of a lake, making for an eerie view. Caddo Lake, on the border of Louisiana and Texas, features the largest cypress forest in the world .
That is where this photo was taken.
Acacia dealbata
There are different trees that are known by the name âmimosaââthe one pictured here is Acacia dealbata , or silver wattle, a tree native to Australia. It features beautiful yellow flowers.
Magnolias are beautiful flower trees that bloom during spring. They produce large, bowl-shaped or star-shaped flowers in shades of white, pink, purple, green, or yellow.
This photo was taken in Washington, D.C.

90% of US Airbnbs in the path of totality are booked. See some prime spots for eclipse views
If you're like this reporter, you may have just heard about the total eclipse a few weeks ago. But there are many people who have been planning on traveling to the path of totality for years.
One Airbnb host told USA TODAY she received an inquiry to book her rental in Arkansas three years ago. Searches for Airbnb listings didn't peak until March 26 of this year, the company told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. But as of Thursday, 90% of Airbnbs in the path of totality in the U.S. were booked.
Overall, searches for Airbnb listings in the path of totality in North America for April 5 through April 8 were up 1,000% compared to the same weekend in 2023 , Airbnb said. Other places came online to try to fill the demand, with more than 1,000 properties joining the platform in 2024, the company said.
Some lucky travelers found a spot with a nice deck or backyard, anywhere to look up at the sky for this rare event . Here are some of those coveted spots in the path of totality we found on Airbnb:

A treehouse in Fredericksburg, Texas
This treehouse in Hill Country, Texas is one of five at The Meadow by HoneyTree , a collection of treehouse getaways designed, constructed and operated by Jacob Rhodes and his wife Katie, a native of the area.
Located in Fredericksburg, less than two hours west of Austin, these getaways have plenty of outdoor space and treehouse decks for views of the eclipse.
Rhodes told USA TODAY in an email that several of their "Treehomes" were booked out exactly one year from the eclipse, the day they became available. People booked them so quickly, one couple beat the pricing software and bypassed the holiday surcharge.
All 17 of the units between The Meadow and their second location, Blue Sage, were booked for the eclipse by the end of December. Rhodes said that is about how far out people book for Valentines Day, but these travelers paid a premium for it. Eclipse rates ranged from $650 to $1200 per night.
HoneyTree guests for the eclipse will get a pair of glasses and a sheet of fun facts put together by Rhodes's 12-year old son.
Upscale tents in Hot Springs, Arkansas
Cheryl Strack Bryson got a call three years ago from someone asking if she could book one of her upscale glamping rentals in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The event wasn't even on her radar and she declined the reservation, she told USA TODAY in an interview.
But she found plenty of other people excited to see the eclipse from one of The Covey Tents at The Nest Properties , located approximately an hour outside of Little Rock.
While she usually books three to four months out at an average nightly rate of $350, her guests for the eclipse booked eight months to a year in advance. Some are traveling from Minnesota.
Strack Bryson called Hot Springs a "funky little town" that will likely see lots of visitors with this event. But she says her guests may just want to stay put.
"I think the best place to view it from our properties is going to be the little docks that are associated with each unit and being out there on the loungers," she said. "Just sit back with your little glasses!"
A 185-year-old lighthouse in Pulaski, New York
Abe and Kathy Ellis have been running the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina for 10 years, but are in the process of turning it over to new owners.
Typically the lighthouse and the three cabins on the property are winterized in April, but when they got their first inquiry a year in advance, they figured they would open a couple of them up for visitors. The entire lighthouse costs $400 per night Sunday through Thursday, Ellis said.
Abe Ellis told USA TODAY that he thought Lake Ontario would be the best place to view the eclipse. But at other times, visitors can venture up into the lighthouse tower.
He expects it will be busy out there, as he keeps hearing from people looking for eclipse lodging.
"Word spread fast ... in the last week I've probably received at least five more inquiries for this weekend," Ellis said. "But of course, I don't have any room!"
A lucky last-minute booking in Starksboro, Vermont
One last-minute eclipse tourist got lucky with this spot in the hills of Starksboro, Vermont, located approximately 30 minutes outside of Burlington.
Host Paul Reynolds had planned to stay in The Spring Hill House during the eclipse, so he blocked off the dates for himself. But his plans changes last minute, and he opened up the dates the Saturday before eclipse weekend, just to have it booked for Sunday and Monday within 30 minutes.
Nightly rates for this spot average around $320 on weeknights and $350 on weekends.
The small, usually tranquil state is expecting a quarter of a million visitors to see the eclipse . The northern part of the state, including Starksboro, falls in the path of totality.

Iran missile and drone attack on Israel â what we know so far
Israelâs military has reported minor damage after Iran launched dozens of drones and missiles towards it late on Saturday
- Iran attack on Israel â live updates
- Full report: Iran launches drones and cruise missiles against Israel
Iran launched hundreds of drones as well as cruise missiles towards Israel , in the Islamic Republicâs first ever direct attack on the Jewish state, in response to the 1 April strike on an Iranian diplomatic building in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which killed a senior figure in Iranâs Islamic Revolutionary Guards and eight other officers.
Benny Gantz, a member of the war cabinet, said that Israel will exact a price from Iran in response to its mass missile and drone attack when the time is right. His comments came ahead of a war cabinet meeting alongside Israelâs prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the countryâs defence minister, Yoav Gallant.
Tehran has warned it will strike again with greater force if Israel or the US retaliate for the Iranian strike on Israel by more 300 drones and missiles on Saturday night. The air raids , the Islamic Republicâs first ever direct attack on the Israeli state, brought a years-long shadow war into the open and threatened to draw the region into a broader conflagration as Israel said it was considering its response.
However, the attack, mostly launched from inside Iran, caused only modest damage in Israel as most were shot down with the help of the US, Britain and Jordan. An air force base in southern Israel was hit, but continued to operate as normal and a seven-year-old child was seriously hurt by shrapnel. There were no other reports of serious damage. Israeli military spokesperson Rear Adm Daniel Hagari said that 99% of the launches had been intercepted.
Most of the Iranian drones flying over Syriaâs airspace during Tehranâs strikes overnight were downed by Israeli and US jets before reaching their targets in Israel, two western intelligence sources told Reuters .
The UN security council will hold an emergency meeting on Sunday at the request of Israelâs ambassador to the UN, the councilâs president said in a statement.
Iran informed Turkey in advance of its planned operation against Israel, a Turkish diplomatic source has told Reuters . The source also said that the US conveyed to Iran via Ankara that its operation must be âwithin certain limitsâ. These reports come after Iranâs foreign minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian , said in a meeting with foreign ambassadors in Tehran that Iran had informed the US that its attacks against Israel will be âlimitedâ and for self-defence only.
John Kirby, the White Houseâs top national security spokesperson, told ABCâs This Week programme on Sunday that the US will continue to help Israel defend itself, but does not want war with Iran. âWe donât seek escalated tensions in the region. We donât seek a wider conflict,â Kirby said. News outlet Axios reported that Joe Biden , the US president, had told Netanyahu that he would oppose an Israeli counterattack against Iran and that the prime minister should âtake the winâ.
UK Royal Air Force fighter jets and refuelling aircraft were also involved in Israelâs defence, taking off from bases in Cyprus. Their role, according to the UK Ministry of Defence, was to fill in for the US air force in the sorties against Islamic State normally carried out over Iraq and north-eastern Syria, but also to intercept Iranian drones if they came into the UK area of operations.
World leaders have condemned Iranâs attack, with regional powers including Saudi Arabia and Egypt calling for restraint. The UN secretary general, AntĂłnio Guterres, said: âI am deeply alarmed about the very real danger of a devastating region-wide escalation. I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East.â
Jordanâs prime minister, Bisher Khasawneh , warned that any escalation in the region would lead to âdangerous pathsâ, joining a chorus of condemnation from world leaders to the attack. Other countries including the UK, Spain, the US, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and China, have called for restraint amid fears of a regional escalation of conflict across the Middle East. Iranâs foreign ministry has summoned the ambassadors of the UK , France , and Germany to question what it referred to as their âirresponsible stanceâ regarding Tehranâs retaliatory strikes on Israel, the semi-official Iranian Labour news agency reported .
Major airlines across the Middle East, including Emirates Airlines and Qatar Airways , announced they would resume some of their operations in the region after cancelling or rerouting some flights in response to Iranâs attack on Israel. Israel said it had reopened its airspace as of 7:30am local time on Sunday morning, with Beirut airport also reopening this morning. Several Iranian airports, including Tehranâs Imam Khomeini International, however, have cancelled flights until Monday.
