Huge £750,000 invested in Players Championship prize funds for 2024

Gerwyn Price (Simon O'Connor, PDC)

A massive £750,000 will be added to the prize money on offer in Players Championship events in 2024 in a major boost for players on the PDC ProTour.

Prize money for Players Championship events had been boosted to £100,000 two years ago, and a further increase will see the total rise further from 2024.

Each Players Championship winner will receive a £15,000 top prize, while players will be guaranteed £1,000 for winning a first round tie.

Prize money has increased across all levels for Players Championships, with the runner-up to receive £10,000 and semi-finalists taking home a £5,000 prize.

"We invested over £2 million into prize money in 2022-2023, and increasing Players Championship prize funds by £750,000 this year is further proof of our commitment to all PDC Tour Card Holders," said PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter.

"We enjoyed another strong year of growth on the circuit in 2023 with hugely successful tournaments globally, but Players Championships remain hugely important for all players and this prize fund recognises that.

"Following such a successful Paddy Power World Darts Championship, this announcement will be a great boost to all players going into the 2024 season."

This year will see all 30 Players Championship events played in midweek days at venues in Wigan, Leicester, Milton Keynes and Hildesheim.

Coverage from four boards in each event will be streamed on PDCTV and across bookmakers' websites worldwide.

The final Players Championship Order of Merit - based on prize money won in the 30 events each year - also sees the top 64 players qualify for the Players Championship Finals at Butlin's Minehead Resort in November.

Gerwyn Price topped the 2023 Players Championship Order of Merit with £79,250 in prize money, which included four tournament wins worth £12,000 apiece.

PGA EuroPro Tour To Fold After More Than 20 Years

Europe's third-tier development Tour will end at the conclusion of the 2022 season

  • Sign up to Golf Monthly Newsletter Newsletter

2021 PGA EuroPro Tour Championship winner Jamie Rutherford

The PGA EuroPro Tour has announced that the 2022 season will be its last, citing the economic landscape of rising costs and changes in audience appetite for its decision.

It was created in 2002 following a merger between the EuroPro Tour and PGA MasterCard Tour, as the Professional Golfers' Association and Barry Hearn's Matchroom Sport joined forces.

As Europe's third-tier golf tour, the PGA EuroPro Tour held an important place in the ecosystem. The top five finishers on the Order of Merit graduated to the Challenge Tour and secured a place at Stage Two of the DP World Tour Qualifying School.

The success of the Tour is perhaps merited by its alumni, which includes Major winners in Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel and European Ryder Cup players in the likes of Tommy Fleetwood , Tyrrell Hatton , Ross Fisher, Jamie Donaldson, Nicholas Colsaerts and Oliver Wilson .

Although unknown at this stage, it is likely PGA EuroPro Tour members will take up opportunities on other development circuits upon conclusion of the 2022 season, such as the Clutch Pro Tour, Alps Tour, Pro Golf Tour and Nordic Golf League.

Speaking of the decision, PGA EuroPro Tour President Barry Hearn said: "I have been honoured to have created the PGA EuroPro Tour alongside Sandy Jones of the PGA and to watch the development of so many aspiring and inspiring professional golfers.

"Sadly, in these changing times for professional golf support for Europe's biggest development tour has not been sufficient to justify its continuation but I must stress my eternal gratitude to Dan Godding and his team at the PGA EuroPro Tour, the PGA, our broadcasters Sky Sports and the golf clubs and volunteers in both the UK and Europe without whom we would never have created so many opportunities for next generation of professional golfers."

European tour offers boost in prize money, new minimum pay

  • Associated Press

The European tour will offer $150,000 against players' earnings and pay $1,500 to other players if they miss the cut as part of a new schedule announced Thursday that boosts prize money and returns to Australia and parts of Asia.

The tour said prize money would be $144.2 million, not including the four majors and the World Golf Championship in Texas.

The four Rolex Series events -- Abu Dhabi, Dubai, the Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship -- get $1 million increases to $9 million, with the season-ending DP World Tour Championship having a $10 million purse.

The tour also said $6 million from a bonus pool would be distributed among the leading eight players in the DP World Tour rankings at the end of the year.

The changes reflect alliances Europe has established with the PGA Tour and tours in South Africa and Australia amid new competition from Saudi-funded LIV Golf.

Most significant is an "Earnings Assurance Program" that provides $150,000 to full members that count against tournament earnings. It is similar to what the PGA Tour announced for this season, with a few changes.

The U.S. tour is offering $500,000 up front for rookies and players who earned their card back from the Korn Ferry Tour. Everyone else will be paid the difference if they don't earn $500,000 in the season.

The European tour is offering $20,000 at the start of the season for rookies, Challenge Tour graduates and those who make it through qualifying school. Everyone else will get paid the difference if the don't earn $150,000 at the end of the season.

"For us to be able to offer our members record prize funds and enhanced earning opportunities is massive, particularly when global economies are still feeling the effects of the pandemic and with the new challenge of rising inflation significantly putting pressure on costs in all facets of our business," said Keith Pelley, the chief executive of the European tour.

He said the overall prize fund is some $50 million more than two years ago.

The new season begins Nov. 24-27 -- one week after the current season ends -- with consecutive weeks of co-sanctioned events in South Africa and Australia. The Australian PGA Championship is the same week as the Joburg Open, while the Australian Open is the same week as the South African Open.

It will be the first time the Australian Open is co-sanctioned by Europe, while the Australian PGA was on the European schedule from 2015 through 2019. Neither event has been held since 2019 because of the pandemic.

Also new to the European tour -- officially the DP World Tour because of its umbrella sponsorship -- are tournaments in Singapore, Japan, Thailand and Korea.

That puts the 39 tournaments in 26 countries on five continents.

The new year starts with the Hero Cup, patterned after the former Seve Trophy to give European tour members a taste of the Ryder Cup format.

The Italian Open will be May 4-7, significant because it is at Marco Simone outside Rome, which hosts the Ryder Cup at the end of September. It's the same week as the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour, an elevated event worth $20 million, which would make it difficult for Americans -- along with American-based Europeans -- to play.

Missing from the schedule is a Spanish stop at Valderrama, which is likely to be used by LIV Golf next year.

The European tour also has a three-week break after the British Open, a break Pelley said was sought by players.

Ryder Cup qualifying ends Sept. 3 at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. After that, players have the Irish Open, BMW PGA Championship, the French Open and then the Ryder Cup.

Prize money Belgian Darts Open 2024: £175,000 in prize pool

The 2024 Belgian Darts Open is scheduled from March 8 to 10 in Wieze. During the first Euro Tour tournament of the season, £175,000 in prize money will be distributed.

A number of players will receive the prize money only in their bank accounts and not added to the world rankings. Indeed, this year 32 players will be automatically invited to the Euro Tours.

Field set for 2024 Belgian Darts Open including Michael van Gerwen, Dave Chisnall and Luke Humphries

First, the top-16 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit will receive an invitation. They have a bye in the first round and enter from the second round. New is that next, the top-16 of the world ranking list will also receive an invitation. They do have to start from the first round. For both groups, however, they must win their opening match at the Belgian Darts Open for the prize money to count toward the world ranking.

The remaining sixteen participants in Wieze are winners from the various qualifying tournaments. Regardless of the result these players achieve, they will get the prize money added to the ranking anyway. In any case, they will receive 1250 pounds of starting money.

TV Guide: This is how to watch 2024 Belgian Darts Open this weekend

Upon reaching the second round, the prize money rises to 2,500 pounds. So the top-16 on the seedings list will get this amount anyway, but they still have to win a match to get it added to the world rankings as well.

Making it to the third round is good for £4,000, while quarter-finalists go home with £6,000 anyway. Semi-finalists will get at least £8500 before the rewards go into the five numbers for reaching the final.

For the runner-up at the Belgian Darts Open, a sum of 12,000 pounds awaits. The winner of this Euro Tour tournament goes home with £30,000.
