リリースの度に大好評＆大ヒットを頂いておりますレーザーディスク復刻シリーズ、今回はNIGHT RANGERの登場です！　シリーズのコンセプトについては何度もご説明しておりますが、万が一初めての方がいらしたらマズいので、またもや繰り返させて頂きます。ご存じの方は、後半まで読み飛ばしてください。 さて、それでは。世間には廃盤オフィシャル映像のコピーDVDRが溢れておりますが、有象無象の皿と本シリーズは何が違うのか。まず第一に、映像の出自に徹底的にこだわっています。VHSとは解像度からして違うレーザーディスクなのはもちろん、その中でも海外マニア筋から「世界最高峰」と羨望を集める日本盤を使用しています。80年代には既に最新メディアに貪欲だった日本は、レーザーディスクにもいち早く対応し、ラインナップも製造クオリティも世界一。当時はとりたてて騒がれませんでしたが、DVDが一般化すると共に“未DVD化の映像”に注目が集まり、「究極クオリティは日本盤レーザーディスクだ！」とクローズアップされるようになったのです。実際、撮影マスターの失われた映像は、日本盤レーザーディスクから起こしているオフィシャルDVDも１つや２つではないのです。しかも、このシリーズでは、現存する日本盤の中でも、その辺に転がっているものではなく、マニアが極上状態で保存していたものを譲り受け、デジタル化しています。 さらに、そのデジタル化行程も普通ではない。レーザーディスクの再生機自体が消滅寸前の現代にあって、ハイエンド・プロ機材を持つ海外メーカーと独占提携してのデジタル化を実現しました。詳しい機材や工程を問い合わせても「企業秘密」との返答しか返ってきませんが、どうもかなりのデジタル・アーカイヴ実績があるようです。実際、本作を一瞬でもご覧いただければ、そのクオリティは一目瞭然。レーザーディスクならではの、揺れも走行ノイズも一切ない映像美。髪の毛の１本１本に至るまで超鮮明な画質に、民生機でレーザーディスクをご覧になっていたお客様でさえ驚き、今までのシリーズを繰り返しお求めくださっていることが総てを証明しています。

さて、ここかららは中身の話。ソースから制作工程に至るまで、徹底的にこだわり抜いたプレスDVDに詰まっているのは、名盤「7 WISHES」をリリースしたばかりの超・全盛NIGHT RANGERです。前作「MIDNIGHT MADNESS」の大ヒットを受け、意気上がるパフォーマンスは史上最高のアメリカンHR。初期３部作からほぼ１／３ずつ選ばれたグレイテスト・ヒッツは、これ以上ないベスト・ショウ。世間には、ファンを満足させるベスト盤などほとんどありませんが、NIGHT RANGERのベスト盤「GREATEST HITS」は、数少ない例外。本作は、その名ベストの楽曲をことごとく収録している。もちろん、物議を醸した4thの「The Secret Of My Success」はありませんから、より一層完璧な、名盤超えのベスト選曲と言っても良いでしょう。 そんな素晴らしい楽曲群を披露するパフォーマンスがまた、とんでもなく素晴らしい！　“ロック史上最強のツインリード”とも名高いブラッド・ギルス＆ジェフ・ワトソンの妙技が全編に炸裂し、ジャック・ブレイズも若々しくステージを駆け回る（動きがキレッキレ！）。当時は「ソフトになった」とも言われた（今から考えると贅沢な話です）「7 WISHES」の楽曲も、生々しいステージで曲本来の輝きを発揮しています。 アメリカン・プログレハードばりにメロディアスでキャッチーな楽曲と、HRならではのダイナミズムの融合。しかも、シーンきってのバカテクまでたっぷりと詰まっている。アメリカンHRの大全盛は、1987年のGUNS N’ ROSESデビューから百花繚乱の時代を迎えますが、これほど高次元なアメリカン・ロックは、NIGHT RANGERとサミー・ヘイガー時代のVAN HALENしかなかった………いえ、本作は、あの「5150」よりも前でした。本作には、まさに唯一無二だったNIGHT RANGERの凄みがこれでもか！と炸裂しているのです。
