We are Canada’s leader in innovative, career‑oriented education. Here you will challenge the ordinary and achieve the extraordinary. You will go beyond what is expected to find new connections and new experiences, and you will do it all at the heart of one of Canada’s most vibrant urban centres.

We are home to more than 45,000 students, including 2,600 master’s and PhD students, 3,100 faculty and staff, and nearly 185,000 alumni worldwide. We offer 63 bachelor’s programs, more than 60 master’s and PhD programs, and 57 specialized minors.

In April 2022, the University announced our new name of Toronto Metropolitan University, which will be implemented in a phased approach.

February 1, 2024 – We guarantee equal consideration if you apply with a complete application by this deadline. Many programs will continue to review applications after February 1, subject to space availability.

Grades-Plus programs select students based on grades and non-academic criteria, such as auditions, portfolios, essays, etc. Grades-Only programs select students based on academic achievement.

An additional non-academic assessment fee of $50 (subject to change) applies to most programs within The Creative School and the Architectural Science program. We will communicate further information about this fee, as applicable, after we process your application.

We will not process applications that are incomplete, including incomplete immigration information.

Current Ontario High School Students

We require completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and six 4U/M courses with a minimum overall average of 70%. This establishes eligibility for admission; subject to competition, individual programs establish higher academic averages.

Meeting minimum averages and/or grades does not guarantee admission. All programs also stipulate specific prerequisite subject requirements. We determine the grades required for these subjects based on competition each year.

We may use Grade 11 results in the early admission offer process. Some programs (Grades-Plus) also specify non-academic requirements for admission (e.g., portfolio, essay, interview, audition).

Canadian High School Students From Outside of Ontario

Each year, TMU welcomes students from across Canada to our campus who make their mark on our diverse and engaged community.

Admission requirements vary by undergraduate program. Review the applicable provincial webpage(s) to determine your academic admission requirements (subject to change).

Home-schooled Applicants

We consider applications from home-schooled candidates that satisfy our admission requirements, as highlighted on our website.

International Applicants

If you have been educated outside of Ontario, you must submit evidence of education equivalent to the OSSD with six 4U/M courses. Program-specific subject prerequisite(s) must form part of your academic background, especially in your last 2 years of high school studies.

Programs may specify non-academic requirements for admission (e.g., portfolio, essay, interview, audition). These programs are referred to as Grades-Plus programs. You can find the specific non-academic requirements for individual Grades-Plus programs, including submission dates and procedures, on each program page.

For Grades-Plus programs, we use both academic and non-academic criteria in the admission process.

Transfer Students

If you have completed studies at university and/or college in Ontario, elsewhere in Canada or abroad, we encourage you to apply.

We offer formal pathways for university and college transfer students, and other opportunities for credit transfer and advanced-level admission. Where and when possible, this will be indicated in your official Offer of Admission.

Mature and Other Students

We review and consider every applicant’s complete academic record, including high school and any postsecondary studies (e.g., college, university or other postsecondary institutions), as part of the competitive selection process.

If you do not possess the minimum admission requirements, we may consider you for admission as a mature student if you meet the following requirements:

  • you are 21 years of age by December 31 of the year you will begin studies,
  • you have been away from formal education for at least 2 years,
  • you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident (landed immigrant), or are sponsored by a Canadian government agency, and
  • you can present tangible evidence of ability to cope with the program at TMU and have completed, typically with grades of 70% or higher, all subject prerequisite(s) or equivalent required for individual program admission.

Special Circumstances and Pathways

Spanning the Gaps increases the postsecondary participation of adults and young people who might not otherwise experience postsecondary education. Through our programs, we are expanding educational opportunities and building educational capacity across communities in the Greater Toronto Area.

By offering holistic and innovative transitional programming, we seek to create accessible pathways to postsecondary education. We work with learners to build academic capacity through a strong community of students, staff and alumni, built on the principles of academic foundations, holistic support, diversity, inclusion and community engagement.

Additional Admission Information

TMU Application Form

Use the  TMU Application Form  to apply to an undergraduate program if you are:

  • a current TMU student,
  • a former TMU student (since fall 1984),
  • applying only to a part‑time program at TMU,
  • applying to be a special student or
  • applying for re‑admission or re-instatement.

Part‑Time Program Applicants

  • If you wish to apply only to a part-time degree at TMU, you should use the  TMU Application Form .
  • Exception:  Part-time application forms are not open to international students.
  • If you are applying to both a part‑time program and a full‑time program at TMU (or a program at another university in Ontario), you should apply using the OUAC Undergraduate Application.

Bachelor of Arts – Undeclared

The  Undeclared Arts option  is a first-year entry option only and does not grant transfer credit or advanced standing. You are not eligible for admission to this option if you have completed, or are completing, postsecondary studies that you can apply for transfer credit for.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) – Collaborative Program

If you are interested in Nursing, we have 3 locations to choose from:

  • Toronto Metropolitan University
  • Centennial College
  • George Brown College

If you choose Centennial or George Brown, you will complete the final 2 years of the program at TMU and will receive a TMU degree.

This is a joint BScN degree that shares the same programs of study and clinical placement settings.

Transcripts for Current Ontario High School Students

Your guidance office will submit your grades to the OUAC. If you have attended or are currently attending postsecondary studies for any length of time (including 1 course) you must arrange for the submission of your postsecondary transcript(s) to TMU.

Transcripts for All Other Applicants

You are personally responsible for the submission of both secondary and postsecondary school academic transcripts, regardless of the date of completion and the country of origin.

You should make all the necessary arrangements for submission of required transcripts at the time of application to ensure documents are received by applicable deadlines.

Academic studies required for admission must be completed or in progress at the time of application. Transcripts must show the individual marks or grades achieved in each course or subject taken, as well as the diploma or degree awarded (if applicable).

We may use unofficial transcripts, including those you upload in the ChooseTMU Applicant Portal, to assess applications for admission. We will request official transcripts if or when required in an offer of admission.

If your documents are in a language other than English, you must provide the documents in the original language, as well as certified or notarized literal English translations.

Language Requirements

You may be required to submit a satisfactory English language proficiency test score if you have completed less than 4 years of full-time study:

  • at the high school level in Canada,
  • in a country where English is not the first language or
  • in a school where English is not the primary language of instruction.

Supplemental Documents

TMU Supplementary Form (Optional)

We encourage you to complete and submit a Supplementary Form. This form provides you with an opportunity to tell us more about yourself, your academic history and why you are interested in pursuing the program(s) you have selected. You may submit a form for each program you apply to. The form will be available in your ChooseTMU applicant portal after you apply.

The Supplementary Form is not available to you if you are:

  • A current Ontario secondary school student
  • An applicant for Special Student Status

Supplemental/Document Evaluation Fee

There is a non-refundable supplemental/document evaluation fee of $90 (in addition to the base application fee). The OUAC collects this fee on our behalf. This is not applicable to current Ontario secondary school students.

We recognize the academic achievements of the first-year class upon admission to the University, with over $10 million designated for entrance scholarship support. We have over 1,200 award, scholarship and bursary opportunities for a variety of categories.

We release admission decisions on an ongoing basis, communicating most decisions to applicants between February and late May. After you apply, we encourage you to follow our steps to ensure your application is complete and to stay up-to-date on the status of your application.

Academic Accommodation Support (AAS) works with students to create and implement individualized academic accommodation plans so students can more fully participate in their studies.

AAS will work with any student enrolled at TMU who requires academic accommodation, regardless of program or course load.

For details about accommodations, registration and disability documentation requirements, visit Academic Accommodation Support or contact our office directly:

The mandate of the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI) is to maintain a visible presence for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and Indigenous values and experience as integral components across all teaching, learning, research, service and administrative functions of the university, while addressing the range of systemic barriers at TMU.

OVPECI provides oversight with respect to the realization of the university’s equity and community inclusion strategic initiatives. They work collaboratively — providing technical guidance and support — to empower all members of the university to create a human rights-centred campus. They work in partnership to reduce barriers to access and inclusion for students, faculty and staff and bolster an equitable and inclusive community-focused decolonized university that pursues its academic mandate.

We have approximately 1,144 beds in 3 residence buildings on campus. Between these 3 buildings, there are a range of styles, including 2- to 4-bedroom apartments and single bedrooms with shared or private washrooms.

The deadline to submit a residence application is in early June each year. For details about accommodations and application instructions, visit Housing or contact our office directly:
