Richard Clapton - Music Is Love Tour

Frontier Touring by arrangement with Premier Artists wish to advise the rescheduling of Richard Clapton ’s upcoming Melbourne show, part of his Music Is Love national tour, due to the current Victorian COVID outbreak.

The ‘Girls On The Avenue’ singer-songwriter will now perform at the Palais Theatre on Wednesday 21 July, originally announced for Friday 18 June at the same venue.

Tickets for the originally scheduled performance will be valid for the rescheduled date without the need for exchange – ticketholders don’t need to do anything, just hold on to their existing tickets. All remaining shows – Brisbane, Thirroul, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth – will proceed as scheduled.

Patrons unable to attend the new show date may obtain a full refund. Refund requests must be submitted prior to 5pm AEST on Friday 9 July 2021 – please follow the steps in the link here.

The iconic singer and songwriter will perform two incredible sets on this tour: an electric first half showcasing his latest release, the #3 ARIA Album charting Music Is Love (1966-1970), followed by a ‘Best Of’ set featuring Clapton’s biggest legendary hits.

Inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1999, Clapton is one of our finest songwriters, responsible for iconic tracks such as ‘Girls On The Avenue’, ‘Deep Water’, ‘Capricorn Dancer’, ‘I Am An Island’, ‘The Best Years Of Our Lives’, ‘Lucky Country’, and ‘Glory Road’. Nicknamed ‘Australia’s favourite hippie’, he nurtured the career of INXS (producing their first hit ‘The Loved One’ and second album Underneath The Covers) and released his autobiography The Best Years Of Our Lives in 2014.

Don’t miss Richard Clapton touring this June and July – tickets are on sale now via frontiertouring.com/richardclapton .

RICHARD CLAPTON – ‘Music is Love’ national tour June 2021

  • The acclaimed songwriter behind ‘ Girls On The Avenue ’ will perform headline dates in Melbourne, Brisbane, Thirroul, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth next month
  • Shows will contain two sets: new album Music Is Love + greatest hits
  • Tickets on sale Friday 14 May (12pm AEST)

Frontier Touring by arrangement with Premier Artists is pleased to announce that iconic singer, songwriter and ARIA Hall Of Fame inductee Richard Clapton will head across the country in June 2021 on his Music Is Love national tour, performing six headline theatre shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Thirroul, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

‘Clapton’s band is on fire’ – The Australian ‘It’s all about passion and precision here, as Clapton swings from The Doors to Neil Young, offering a rock history lesson, including a peek inside his musical youth’ ★★★★ – Herald Sun ‘Clapton has crafted an album that honours its title… The message is timeless, and Clapton, with his enduring hippie look and soulful voice, is the perfect messenger’ – STACK

The news comes fresh off the release of Clapton’s new album  Music Is Love (1966-1970) (released on Mushroom’s Bloodlines label) which debuted at #3 on the ARIA Album Chart in April 2021 – his highest-ever chart position. Ticket holders will be treated to two sets by the revered songwriter: an electric first half showcasing his latest release, followed by a ‘Best Of’ set featuring all of Clapton’s most legendary hits.  “I am so looking forward to this tour,” says Richard. “This is a very rare event so come on down and hear some of the world’s greatest songs played by a great band. And yeah – I will be playing a lot of my old songs as well, so all in all it’s gonna be a lot of fun! This is gonna be a real trip!” Music Is Love is Clapton’s first covers album and his 16 th studio release, inspired by his visit to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury two years ago. On this release, Clapton has gone back to his roots, highlighting his love for artists such as Bob Dylan, The Byrds, David Crosby, Neil Young and Buffalo Springfield. With the likes of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Jackson Browne as fans, Richard Clapton (Ralph to his mates) has spent his life on the road. In the ‘70s, Paul McCartney loved ‘ Girls On The Avenue ’ so much he took a copy back to England. During a six-week tour with Neil Young in the ‘80s, Neil put his arm around Clapton after coming offstage one night to declare, “You’re a bad boy, Ralph. My band hasn’t been to bed for two days. I’m gonna change the name of my tour from Rust Never Sleeps to Ralph Never Sleeps!” Inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1999, Clapton is considered one of our finest songwriters, responsible for iconic songs such as ‘ Girls On The Avenue ’, ‘ Deep Water ’, ‘ Capricorn Dancer ’, ‘ I Am An Island’ , ‘ The Best Years Of Our Lives ’, ‘ Lucky Country ’, and ‘ Glory Road ’. Nicknamed ‘Australia’s favourite hippie’ , he nurtured the career of INXS (producing their first hit ‘The Loved One’ and second album Underneath The Covers ), and released his autobiography The Best Years Of Our Lives in 2014. Don’t miss your chance to see one of our country’s greatest songsmiths, Richard Clapton, touring nationally this June. More Richard Clapton

Beloved Australian singer-songwriter, Richard Clapton , has announced two intimate shows to celebrate 50 years in music.

Clapton will host two anniversary concerts at the State Theatre in Sydney on Saturday, 15 April, and the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on Friday, 19 May. Tickets for both shows go on sale at 9 am on Monday, 20 February, through Ticketmaster.

Known for hits such as Girls On The Avenue, I Am An Island, Goodbye Tiger, Capricorn Dancer, Down In The Lucky Country, Deep Water, High Society, Blue Bay Blues, Glory Road and Angelou, Clapton's music has soundtracked the lives of an entire generation of listeners.

Clapton said about the upcoming tour dates, "I can’t believe it’s 50 years since Prussian Blue. I had one foot in Southern Germany and another foot in Chippendale, and life was so good in the Lucky Country. Gough Whitlam was our Prime Minister and the Sydney Opera House was officially opened.

"I had been away for several years, but when I returned in 1973 there was an amazing embryonic contemporary music scene busting to get out of its shell and take the world by the tail. The explosion of original Australian creativity, that seemed to happen all of a sudden, was awe inspiring and kickstarted me into a burst of creative energy."

He added, "Since then, I have released over 20 albums and I couldn’t possibly guess at how many gigs I’ve played, but I think I’ve played every square inch of this wide brown land.

"Fast forward to 2008 when Marc Christowski first presented me at The State Theatre in Sydney. This has become an annual pilgrimage for the fans who come from all over Australia and in fact, the world to be part of Richard Clapton at The State.

"And what a great ride it’s been! So… welcome to the party that never ends!"

In a review of Clapton's  Best Years 1974 - 2014  CD, The Music found that "He’s just always been around – and later tunes like the not really celebratory Down In The Lucky Country , and the kind-of-eponymous Best Years Of Our Lives are part of the landscape. Yeah, good work from the man called Ralph."

Richard Clapton on Drugs, Legacy and New Americana Album

In the first of a new ‘living legend’ series, the sydney singer-songwriter opens up about his new lp and his career..

richard clapton australian tour

‘I need a cigarette – where can we go?” says Richard Clapton , pacing around the foyer of the ABC studios in Sydney in the midst of a run of radio interviews about his new album, The House Of Orange . The 67-year-old’s 20th album since debuting with 1973’s Prussian Blue , it finds the singer-songwriter exploring an Americana feel with new songs and re-recordings of some classics. After inhaling a cigarette outside, he retires to the back of the ABC cafeteria for a coffee. I offer to pay and Clapton, looking clear-eyed and relaxed, pushes my hand away. “I’m the record company for this one,” smiles the man his friends call ‘Ralph’. “I’ll do the label thing and pay.”

Your new album was recorded in Nashville and has a very Americana feel. Was that conscious? I think Americana’s been in my DNA since the very beginning, but it became a bit convoluted when I met INXS and I started going in all those tangents, so for awhile it was a bit obscured. Mark [Moffatt, producer] listened to 70 songs over three months and bunched them together. He didn’t care if they were older or new. It’s nowhere near as eclectic as my older albums where you’d get [INXS drummer] Jon Farriss-funk mixed with a ‘Ralph’ country rock track.

Have you ever made any serious attempt at breaking America? Chuggie [former manager Michael Chugg] and I tried it on years ago. Back when George Wayne was on Double J he hooked Jackson Browne and me up. Jackson took a liking to me and took my stuff back to Elektra Asylum, his label, and got me in the door there. There was already some interest from Island Records in the UK. Nothing eventuated unfortunately. I was tied to a deal in Australia and the label here was asking for impossible deals. I just wanted to get my records out.

1977’s Goodbye Tiger is considered one of the best Australian albums of all time. Towards the end of that decade it seemed like you had the potential to be a global star. How did you cope when it didn’t happen? I came back here and that’s when I just turned into the local drunk, going to [legendary Sydney rock & roll haunt] Benny’s every night and getting totally maggoted. I was stumbling around Benny’s going, “I could have been a contender.” Then I met my ex-wife Susie and we fell in love. She said, “Well, do you want to drink yourself to an early grave or marry me and we’ll have kids and live happily ever after?” So we got married and had kids. There were offers but never one that was meaty enough to persuade me to move the family to America. So I went quiet on that front for 25 years.

How bad was the substance abuse during that time? It was full on. Personally I’m quite opposed to so many of our brothers and sisters who try and bury this in the closet. There’s no way I’d condone the use of coke, but I’ve also got no regrets about it. I had some marvellous times and wrote some great songs on coke. I wrote the whole of [1987’s] Glory Road on coke. There was a great interview with Joni Mitchell years ago when someone tried to get at her about her cocaine use. She said she hadn’t given up and she explained that she liked the chaos in her mind that enabled her to write those songs. Same for me. It made a lot of my songs possible. It enhanced my mental state. But I have to say that that muse doesn’t work for me anymore.

You were very close to INXS. Some have suggested their influence wasn’t always good for you musically… When I met them there was a certain chemistry. Until that point I had dedicated my life to aspiring to be Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman and Neil Young. That’s all I wanted to be. When I met them I had to go into Hutch’s world – My Life In the Bush Of Ghosts [Brian Eno and David Byrne’s 1981 album] and all this alien music he [Michael Hutchence] was into. But to be honest with you, especially with [1982’s] The Great Escape , I really appreciate that they dragged me out of where I was and I ended up doing some pretty left-of-centre stuff, and I wouldn’t have done that without INXS and in particular Jon Farriss’s influence. So I have no regrets.

“There’s no way I’d condone the use of coke, but I’ve got no regrets. I wrote some great songs on coke.”

Do figures like Dylan still loom large in your life? They’ll remain constants for the rest of my life. The only thing that’s changed is that I got into Ryan Adams years ago and I think, “Go, kid, someone’s gotta wave the fucking flag.” He’s like old us, the whole spirit of 30 years ago.

Do you have a guiding principle that keeps you going? Down the side of Tower Records in Tokyo is a big sign that says, “Without Music There Is No Life”. And I really do believe that. These days I find it hard to find many artists that connect with me, that have that electricity. When I heard Dylan’s “Positively 4th Street” I went, “This is what I want to be.” I was 16 or 17 and that was me from that moment on.

How do you reflect back on your career? I’m actually really happy with it. Because in the clumsiest of ways I’ve managed to straddle everything, and get through it. I’ve been middle class for 20 years. I can eat in nice restaurants, stay in nice hotels. I’m never going to be Elton John – but I wouldn’t want to be.

Richard Clapton

richard clapton australian tour

Every nation with a great tradition in rock gives rise to artists whose longevity places them in a special, sparsely populated strata of the entertainment world. They are the tribal elders of popular music, you might say. If America has Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen, and the U.K. has Van Morrison and Paul McCartney, then we are proud to confer similar prestige on Richard Clapton. Songs like “Deep Water” and “Capricorn Dancer” are touchstones on the Aussie rock landscape, without which we wouldn’t really know who we are or where we’re going.”

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
