Échappez-vous de la tour Eiffel. Un Unlock efficace et effervescent

Unlock! sort un nouveau scénario pour leur gamme les Escape Geeks : Échappez-vous de la tour Eiffel. Un scénario court et trépidant.

Est-ce que vous vous souvenez encore, vous, de la sortie du tout premier Unlock ? La première boîte, Escape Adventures , remonte à exactement 5 ans, en février 2017. Vous vous souvenez où vous l’aviez achetée ? Avec qui vous y avez joué ? Entre curiosité et effervescence, avec l’As d’Or 2017 en poche, la sortie d’ Unlock! a chamboulé pas mal de choses dans le milieu du jeu de société. D’autres auteurs, d’autres éditeurs se sont engouffrés dans la brèche des Escape Games dits de salon. Avec plus ou moins de brio. Souvent moins…

Et c’est aujourd’hui, 5 ans plus tard presque jour pour jour, sort une toute nouvelle boîte, Unlock! Échappez-vous de la tour Eiffel . Pour être précis, il faut rajouter : Unlock!  les Escape Geeks  : Échappez-vous de la tour Eiffel.

Car oui, cette boîte Unlock, composée d’un seul et unique scénario, et non de trois comme d’habitude, rejoint la gamme Escape Geek.

Escape Geek

Escape Geeks, c’est gamme issue de la collaboration entre l’éditeur du jeu de société Space Cowboys / Asmodee et l’éditeur de livres Rageot.

Maison des éditions Hatier , les éditions Rageot se consacrent depuis plus de 70 ans à l’édition de romans pour la jeunesse. Aujourd’hui, dans un catalogue de plus de 400 titres parmi lesquels Les Quatre Sœurs , Le Prince Cruel ou la collection Heure Noire, on y retrouve 3 livres-jeux sortis précédemment qui surfent sur le succès, le titre, la franchise Unlock!

Cette série de romans en mode « dont vous êtes le héros » et mâtiné d’énigmes, permettent de suivre les aventures d’Alex et ses amis, membre des « Escape Geeks ». Dans les 3 livres, cette équipe lutte contre la secte ODAL, dans des aventures les menant au cimetière du Père Lachaise, au musée du Louvre et dans d’autres lieux mythiques.

Et plutôt qu’un 4e livre-jeu, Space Cowboys et Rageot ont décidé cette fois-ci de sortir une boîte en mode « pur Unlock! « , avec cartes et appli.

Un Unlock du plus bel Eiffel

Cette aventure de niveau 1, de difficulté comparable aux aventures de même niveau des boîtes classiques, s’adresse aux fans de la première heure d’ Unlock! , ados et adultes, ainsi qu’au lectorat des Escape Geeks, mais aussi aux personnes ne connaissant pas le jeu ou l’univers. Bref, à un peu tout le monde, sauf aux enfants. Pour ça, il y a (l’excellent) Unlock! Kids .

 » Vous avez reçu un message. Les membres de la secte ODAL sont à la recherche d’un artefact puissant qui a été caché dans la tour Eiffel lors de sa construction. Grimpez les étages de la Dame de Fer et mettez la main sur l’artefact avant qu’Odal ne s’en empare !  « 

Si vous avez déjà lu l’un ou l’autre livre-jeu, vous retrouverez le même univers, les mêmes personnages. Destinés à un public de jeunes ados. Si ce n’est pas le cas, ce qui est mon cas, aucun souci. Vous pourrez très bien y jouer sans vous sentir perdu.

Ce qu’on a beaucoup, beaucoup apprécié

Ce Unlock en one-shot, avec une seule boîte et un seul scénario présente plusieurs (gros) points positifs :

🔞 Un scénario destiné à des jeunes dès 10-12 ans . Mais pas moins.

🚀 Un scénario court, simple, fluide . Mais pas dénué d’intérêt pour autant. Le récit, les énigmes, tout est cohérent.

📱 L’appli, toujours aussi efficace et surprenante .

⏳ Des images d’archives, historiques. Et hasard des calendriers des coïncidences, ce scénario Unlock! sur / dans / autour de la tour Eiffel sort quelques semaines après le film sur Gustave Eiffel et la construction de sa fameuse tour au 19e.

🚻 Les 4 personnages présents à jouer, à mobiliser, sont inclusifs et modernes : 2 filles et 2 garçons, loin des clichés cucul éculés.

🚪 Un scénario qui peut faire effet de scénario d’intro à l’univers d’Unlock, avant d’entamer des aventures plus cossues.

Bref, nous avons beaucoup, beaucoup apprécié et nous nous sommes beaucoup, beaucoup amusés. Mais.

Ce qu’on a beaucoup, beaucoup moins apprécié

Ce Unlock en one-shot, avec une seule boîte et un seul scénario présente toutefois un (gros) point négatif :

1️ Il n’y a qu’ un seul scénario . Qui est court, très court . Comptez une trentaine de minutes , sans assistance ni solution. Le jeu est destiné à un public ado. Les adultes vont également y prendre du plaisir, mais les énigmes sont de niveau 1, voire… 0,5. Elles sont intéressantes et accessibles . Elles ont donc les qualités de leurs défauts, et vice versa.

Comprenez-moi bien. C’est un excellent scénario, entre récit, énigmes et appli, on ne s’y embête pas. Mais soudain, l’aventure est terminée. On reste sur sa faim. Pour un jeu Kleenex d’une quinzaine d’euros, c’est mince .

Unlock! les Escape Geeks : Échappez-vous de la tour Eiffel, verdict

Un très bon scénario, trépidant, inclusif, historique, intelligent. Mais avec un seul scénario, court, très, trop court, on peut s’interroger sur l’intérêt commercial de la chose. 15 euros pour 30-40′ de jeu, et puis c’est tout, c’est léger.

No building better symbolises Paris than the Tour Eiffel. Maupassant claimed he left Paris because of it, William Morris visited regularly to avoid having to see it from afar – and it was originally meant to be a temporary structure. The radical cast-iron tower was built for the 1889 World Fair and the centenary of the 1789 Revolution by engineer Gustave Eiffel. Eiffel made use of new technology that was already popular in iron-framed buildings. Construction took more than two years and used some 18,000 pieces of metal and 2,500,000 rivets. The 300-metre (984-foot) tower it was the tallest structure in the world until overtaken by New York’s Chrysler Building in 1930. Various lifts ply their way up and down, including two double-cabin electric lifts between the second and third floor; from the bottom, you can walk as far as the second level, a total of 674 steps. There are souvenir shops, two restaurants and several cafés. The smart Jules Verne restaurant, on the second floor, has its own lift in the south tower pillar entrance. At the top (third level), there’s a champagne bar if you fancy treating yourself. Or just enjoy the spectacular views from 276 metres. Every evening, for five minutes on the hour, 20,000 flashbulbs attached to the tower provide a beautiful effect.

T icket prices and opening times

Eiffel Tower tickets vary in price depending on how far up you want to go and how you want to get there. At time of writing, standard adult-rate tickets on the official Eiffel Tower website are priced as follows:

Tickets with access to the second floor by stairs: €11.30 Tickets with access to the second floor by lift: €18.10 Tickets with access to the second floor by stairs followed by a lift to the top: €21.50 Tickets with access all the way to the top by lift: €28.30

How long are the queues for the Eiffel Tower?

Depending on who you ask, queues can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. The official Eiffel Tower website advises visiting between 9am-11am or 8pm-10.30pm for shorter entry times.

What to do around the Eiffel Tower

Around the Eiffel Tower, between the 7th and 16th arrondissements, the city is full of art. From the Museum of Modern Art and the Palais de Tokyo to the Quai Branly Museum  or the Rodin Museum (don’t forget to stroll through their beautiful gardens), the area covers a wide cultural spectrum. From the Pont des Invalides to the Champ-de-Mars , you’ll feel like you’re strolling through picture-postcard Paris... And because you’ll need more than a day to explore it all, staying in a nearby hotel isn’t a bad idea. Visiting the Eiffel Tower during the Paris 2024 Olympics

From July to August 2024, the Champ-de-Mars (the long stretch of green space running from the Eiffel Tower to the École Militaire) will be transformed into a giant stadium for the Paris Olympics.

The Eiffel Tower Stadium – as the new venue will be known – will be located roughly in the centre of the Champ-de-Mars (between the École Militaire to the south and the Eiffel Tower itself to the north) and will host beach volleyball (July 27-Aug 10) and the Paralympic blind football (Aug 30-Sep 7). Right in front of the École Militaire, the Arena Champ-de-Mars (currently the temporary Grand Palais Éphémère) will host judo (Jul 27-Aug 3) and the freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling competitions (Aug 5-11).

Need tickets? If you registered before April 20 on the official ticketing platform and are lucky enough to be selected, you’ll receive an email with your individual ticket purchasing window. Otherwise, tickets to attend events will be available for purchase in late 2023 or early 2024. Be quick during this final phase of ticket sales, as they’ll be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to get to there

You can reach the Eiffel Tower via Line 8, from Ecole Militaire or La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle stations (also accessible via Lines 6 and 10), and via RER C (Champ-de-Mars – Tour Eiffel). If you’re coming by car, the Pullman Tour Eiffel covered parking lot will be the closest option, costing around €40 for 24 hours. For a slightly more budget-friendly alternative, consider the Tour Eiffel Quai Branly parking, just a seven-minute walk away (around €30 for 24 hours).

Once you’re at the tower, it’s around a six-minute walk to where the Eiffel Tower Stadium will be located and a 13-minute walk to Arena Champ-de-Mars/Grand Palais Éphémère (at the south of Champ-de-Mars), or you can catch bus 82 to shave a few minutes off.

With his depiction of the Eiffel Tower , the symbol of Paris built in 1889 as a spectacular example of French engineering, Robert Delaunay produced a shocking scenario of the decline and fall of the modern world. His admiration for industrial progress contrasts with his pictorial destruction of the architectural construction, to the point of a formal dissolution of the motif. Its only remaining relation to the city is the view of the curved paths on the Champ de Mars . The tower itself, exploded into schematic pieces, traverses the painting diagonally, its tip covered by prism-like clouds. Delaunay dedicated this painting, part of a series of about 15 of the Eiffel Tower, to his friend, the poet Guillaume Apollinaire, who wrote ardent poems and texts on the artist's work and on the modern metropolis of Paris.

This is a French Webquest that focuses on the Tour Eiffel ! It is entirely in French and has a complete answer key as well.

I have used this from Grades 9-12 in French Immersion and Core classes when we study units on France / French culture and history. I usually do a mini-unit on Paris and include the major landmarks with this in it.

The Webquest is a brief overview of the history of the Eiffel Tower, when it was built, some details about its construction, and its importance.

This comprehensive visit includes a tour by an official Eiffel Tower guide and includes facilitated access to the elevator from the ground to the second floor. Learn more about the major historical events and little-known anecdotes behind the Eiffel Tower and experience the thrilling ascent to the top. Your guide will take you up to the second floor during a one-hour guided tour. You can then continue your visit the whole way to the Top, making sure you take time to explore the second and first floors at your own pace on the way back down.

The guided tour, available in French or English, is open to groups of up to 12 people. After meeting on the esplanade, your official guide will take you on a seamless one-hour visit. Once the tour is over, your guide will say “au revoir” on the second floor after showing you how to get to the elevator that will take you to the Top. The rest of your visit will be self-guided. Explore at your own pace, taking in the panoramic views at every level and enjoying all the benefits of the guided tour ticket at selected shops and food and beverage outlets.

The visit experience

01 – Meet your tour guide on the esplanade beneath the Eiffel Tower

Punctuality is the key to starting this visit on the right foot. Make sure you arrive at the Official Guided Tours meeting point (provided on your e-ticket) at least 15 minutes before the time indicated on your ticket. The tour starts right on time. Your guide will start by taking you to an exclusive area reserved for visitors taking the guided tour to show you how the two historic Eiffel Tower elevators work.

02 – Learn more about the monument during a one-hour tour

Your guide will then facilitate your access to the elevator taking you to the second floor. During the one-hour guided tour, you will discover the major milestones in the history of the Tower and learn more about how this iconic monument operates on a daily basis.

03 – Self-guided ascent to the top

After your guided tour, you can complete your visit at your own pace. Your ticket allows you to take the elevator from the upper level of the second floor to the Top of the Eiffel Tower. You may have to wait to take this elevator. Take your time and enjoy the most beautiful view of Paris and the surrounding region. If you’d like to raise a glass to celebrate this unforgettable moment, be sure to visit the champagne bar on the top.

04- Make your way back down and explore

Continue to explore the Eiffel Tower on your way back down. Feel free to return to both levels of the second floor. Take in all the different views of the city and surrounding areas and be sure to enjoy the restaurants and shops! To make your way down to the first floor and ground floor, we recommend taking the stairs to discover the tower’s fascinating structure. Once you've reached the first floor, take your time exploring this level and its wealth of content and panoramic views.
