- Trivia As well as all boats flying the local flags, Clarkson's replica PBR flies the Cook Islands flag and May's wooden cruiser flies the British Red Ensign (until it broke off).
- Goofs All of May's and Hammond's flimsy excuses notwithstanding, they both had of course "done" plenty of boat projects on Top Gear before, including attempts at channel crossings in cars converted into boats in rough weather.
Jeremy Clarkson : Guys, I've got my iPad. I can watch a movie. There's a show on Prime Video, it's called The Grand Tour.
Richard Hammond : I don't like it.
James May : It's rubbish.
Richard Hammond : There's this one bloke on it I can't stand.

The Grand Tour Hosts Are Racing Boats Through Cambodia and Vietnam in a New Special
This looks like one really watery adventure.
The Grand Tour , as we know it, is a car show. Its hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, do and talk about things that are usually, in one way or another, related to cars. The show's latest special takes things in a different direction.
That's right, this time around the British trio are challenging themselves to navigate Mekong Delta, a series of complex rivers, peninsulas, islands, and streams that snake throughout southern Vietnam, to see who can reach the other side the quickest.
The trailer gives us a good look at what sort of boat each of the hosts have chosen, and they're ask wacky as you'd expect. Clarkson shows up with a military-like service boat meant for police duty. May went for an older wooden boat that looks like it would be more suited to Lake Como than a Vietnam river. Hammond went for a full-on speed boat, complete with some extremely Nineties graphics.
As with any of The Grand Tour's specials, there are plenty of hilarious antics, close calls, and clever pranks in store. The full special will be available to Amazon Prime members on, December 13, 2019.

Amazon has dropped the trailer for a special episode of The Grand Tour , featuring Jeremy Clarkson , James May and Richard Hammond in a boat-based challenge.
The trio of presenters have vacated their cars for the first time and embark on a 500-mile river trip across Vietnam and Cambodia, in an episode titled The Grand Tour presents: Seamen. It premieres on December 13.
The feature-length episode is the first in a sequence of specials the team is making for Amazon Prime Video after they decided last year to ditch The Grand Tour ‘s studio format, set in a tent, and concentrate on a series of adventures.
Although they have parked their cars, the Seamen episode features many familiar format points, from the presenters showcasing the boats they have chosen, to racing challenges, collisions and unfortunate break downs.
For their journey along the Mekong Delta, Clarkson recreates a Vietnam war-era Patrol Boat River, Hammond charters a Miami Vice -style speedboat, while May enjoys a 1939 wooden river cruiser.
Amazon’s director of European originals Georgia Brown said: “We know fans love to see the guys take on these incredible adventures across exotic locations and The Grand Tour presents: Seamen does just that – this feature-length special promises to be a thrilling off-road escapade, full of challenges and jeopardy, climaxing in one of the most dangerous and exciting challenges Jeremy, Richard and James may have ever endured.”
With Seamen launching in December, work is well underway on their second special, which has just finished filming in Madagascar and will premiere next year.

The PBR’s were powered by twin Detroit . 6V53’s with water jets . and they cruised between 25 and 31 knots. There were over 750 PBR’s . built and at the height of production . two PBR’s were rolling off the assembly line each day.
The PBR was manufactured in two versions, . the first with 31 feet (9.4 m) length and 10 foot, 7 inch beam. The Mark II version 32 feet (9.8 m) long and 1 foot (0.30 m) wider beam had improved drives to reduce fouling and aluminum gunwales to resist wear.

Repowered in 1998 with twin 425hp, EFI 502 ci Mercruiser engines and Bravo I outdrives, this Scarab Thunder will deliver thrill-seekers a comfortable ride at 45 to 50mph without stressing the engines and top speeds above 60mph. NGK F1 Powerboat Championships Series Joining Upcoming Lake Race
History will be made on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks in a few weeks when the NGK Spark Plugs Formula One Powerboat Championship Series brings world-class tunnel-boat-racing action to the popular waterway for the first time. Building off the momentum of this season’s first two events in Port Neches, Texas, the NGK F1 Series is going to run its third round as a companion event to the Offshore Powerboat Association -sanctioned Lake Race at Bagnell Dam on June 3-5.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, Lake of the Ozarks also happens to be the hometown of NGK F1 Series director, Tim Seebold, who is very excited to bring the high-octane outboard racing to lake, fulfilling a dream he has envisioned for quite some time.
Longtime F1 racing fans will remember that the state of Missouri was once a stronghold for high-stakes tunnel-boat racing, as it hosted the St. Louis Grand Prix dating back nearly 50 years. Originally held at George Winter Park in Fenton from 1972 to 1999, the race moved to Creve Coeur Lake Park starting in 2000. The 37th and last St. Louis Grand Prix race was held in 2008.
“Since the inception of the NGK F1 Powerboat Championship in 2017 we have wanted to bring F1 powerboat racing back to Missouri,” Seebold said in a press release. “The outboard-racing tradition that began 49 years ago with the Concord Village Lions Club producing the first St. Louis Grand Prix at George Winter Park will once again thrill racing fans as the F1 boats light up the waters of my hometown. It is going to be a special event for powerboat racing fans to see the impressive high-horsepower offshore boats, the agile F1 boats along with the crowd-favorite Tri Hull division all on the water in the same day.
“Thanks to Tom Abbett of Lake Race and OPA’s Ed “Smitty” Smith for the shared infrastructure that has made this all possible,” he added. “We are fortunate and extend our appreciation to Shady Gators, Backwater Jacks, Dog Days, ProServ Business Systems and Ozark Touchless Covers for believing in our vision of bringing these powerboat disciplines together.”
Smith, the president of OPA, agreed that the announcement is great news for the racing community.
“We have learned through our partnership with Powerboat P1 how powerful these partnerships can be,” Smitty said in the release. “I have always wanted to watch the F1 boats race, but never had the opportunity to attend one of their events. Thanks to Tim Seebold for reaching out to us. This is going to be a big boost for us all.”
Abbett, president of the Lake Race Board of Directors, said the board is extremely excited with the addition of the NGK F1 Powerboat Series to the 2021 Lake Race event, which features the new Neon Taco as its primary host location.
“We have been discussing this for a few months, and once Tim Seebold and I met at the racecourse site by the dam, we knew we had to figure out a way to make it happen,” Abbett said in the release. “This addition of different classes will certainly add to the non-stop, on-course racing action and I cannot wait to see the dead start for the F1 boats from the docks; one of the coolest starts in all of racing. This addition will be a ‘must see’ for boating enthusiasts and race fans of all ages.”
According to the release, the public is invited to meet the racers at the Racer’s Reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Camden on the Lake Boardwalk. At noon on Friday, the race pits will begin set up followed by a Lake Race Street Party open to the public at Bagnell Dam Strip from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday’s race-day action, which includes Offshore, Formula 1 and Tri Hull, will start with testing at 9 a.m. and the full-throttle, deck-to-deck competition is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All of the racing action from Saturday will be broadcast via livestream from the NGK F1 website and the NGK F1 Facebook page utilizing a revolutionary live timing system, which allows fans to watch the rapid-paced race positioning in real time while watching the livestream. Additional viewing can be found on the American Broadcast Affiliates airing the show on live national television, where an estimated 40+ million viewers will have the chance to watch the event on broadcast and cable television.

The Boats Behind The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen
While many of you aren’t interested in The Grand Tour leaving the car keys on the coffee table and instead looking towards boats, we can’t wait for Seamen to air this coming Friday 13 December. But while we’ve gone into great detail about what we’re expecting, we haven’t touched properly on the boats they’re sailing in this episode.
Jeremy Clarkson’s PBR (Patrol Boat, Riverine)
Used during the Vietnam War, this patrol boat is used for basic river patrol thanks to its low-draft and high speed. Clarkson explains to Hammond how it is powered by two V8 engines, both produces 350hp each. You can see a similar boat being used in the Hollywood motion picture, Apocalypse Now. This boat was apparently built specially for the show.
Richard Hammond’s Scarab
This high-performance power boat produces a total of 850hp from two V8 engines. According to Reddit , a similar Scarab with similar power will reach a top speed of around 60mph and run faster in choppy waters compared to still lakes and rivers. It’s usually found in the waterways of Miami where they’re used as tools for boasting.
James May’s 1939 Wooden River Cruiser
While we can’t find much information about this boat, but after a Google, they’re often described as antiques, and offer very little power compared to Clarkson and Hammond’s choices for this episode. Only offering one engine in most models, it is slow, but similar classic boats were sometimes used to pull water skiers in the official European water-ski championships.
So yes, while we have no cars in this episode, we have the trio sodding about and being funny as usual, and surely that’s something we can’t say no to? Episode 2 will bring back the cars, however. You can read about that here.

One of Sarasota's largest annual events , which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, has announced it will change calendar dates.
Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, which has traditionally been held over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, will now take place Sept. 13-15, according to a press release. Reasons given for the date change include driving more business to local retailers, hotels and restaurants during the off-season; helping alleviate limited City and County resources when held over the busy Fourth of July weekend; and moving away from peak bird and turtle nesting season on local beaches.

There will also be VIP viewing options for the event, and a Class 1 Experience that includes private access to parties, events, tours, team meet and greet opportunities, and "ultra-premium" race viewing both days.
“We are excited to welcome the annual Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix back on their new September dates," said Visit Sarasota County director of sports Pete Harvey in a statement. "The Grand Prix draws enthusiastic crowds, capturing the attention of visitors and residents alike. It attracts a diverse range of attendees, which generates a sizeable surge in tourism and spending.”
Another annual Sarasota-Manatee attraction featuring powerboat races, the Bradenton Area River Regatta , also recently announced the dates for its next event. The 10th annual Regatta, which bills itself as Manatee County's largest spectator event, will return to the shorelines of Bradenton and Palmetto on Feb. 21 and 22, 2025, featuring a drone laser light show and fireworks display the first day, racing on the second, and live music both days.
