As a tourist destination, Hyderabad stands out for its glorious Islamic heritage, a result of several centuries of prosperous rule that ended with the Nizam dynasty—at this point in history, Hyderabad was merged with the rest of India after the country's independence in 1947. The Charminar —a historic 16th-century mosque with grand Islamic architecture that stands at the center of the atmospheric Old City—is undoubtedly Hyderabad's most iconic landmark. It was built by ruler Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah, the founder of Hyderabad, after he moved his capital here from Golconda Fort due to severe water shortages and sanitation problems.

The fact that the Charminar was Hyderabad's first structure gives it special significance. It's also possible to pay a small fee and climb to the first level for impressive views of the city. While the Chaminar is surrounded by a noisy, crowded, traffic-infested market area, it's brimming with heritage and is definitely worth investigating.

Feel Regal at Falaknuma Palace

If you don't have the money to stay there—one night will set you back more than 30,000 rupees, or about $385—at least have high tea or dinner at the opulent Falaknuma Palace.

The palace opened as a luxury hotel belonging to the Taj Group in 2010, but was originally built as the residence of the Prime Minister of Hyderabad, Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra, who was married to the Nizam's elder sister. The Nizam liked the palace so much that he ended up buying it and using it as a royal guesthouse. The palace's name means "Mirror of the Sky" and it sits atop a hill overlooking the city. The interior is jaw-dropping, to say the least.

Hyderabad's museums not only contain rare treasures from the city's past rulers, they're also housed in spectacular premises. The 200-year-old Chowmahallah Palace, which once served as the official residence of the Nizams, is now a museum with a collection including antique cars, photos, furniture, and clothing.

The stately home of the sixth Nizam, Purani Haveli, contains the Nizam's Museum dedicated to the seventh and last Nizam of Hyderabad. Many of his personal effects are on display. Nearby, the Salar Jung Museum is an outstanding art and antiques museum, located in the resident palace of Salar Jung III, the seventh Nizam’s Prime Minister, who established the museum. Note that the museums are closed on Friday.

Explore Golkonda Fort

The extensive ruins of Golkonda Fort , located to the west of Hyderabad, is also full of interesting history and architecture. Dating back to the 13th century as a mud fort, it rose to prominence as the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in the 16th century before Hyderabad was founded. The Mughals took the fort in the 17th century after a long and intense battle–with it, they claimed some of the best diamonds in the world, which had been mined in the area.

There are many structures to see inside the fort so make sure you allow plenty of time to wander. A sound and light show that narrates the fort's story is held every evening.

Wander Through the Grand Tombs

The grand tombs of the seven Qutb Shahi kings, who ruled the region for almost 170 years, are situated just north of Golconda Fort. The oldest one dates back to 1543 and the Indo-Persian architecture you'll see is exquisite. The tombs were once decorated with chandeliers, carpets, and velvet canopies, but fell into disrepair after the Qutb Shahi dynasty came to an end in 1687 once the Mughals, and subsequently the Nizams, took over. Fortunately, Salar Jung III had them restored during the early 19th century.

Nearby, the intricate Paigah tombs , which date back to the late 18th century and belong to the noble Paigah family, who loyally served the Nizams in important roles for generations, are also worth visiting.

Admire the Colorful Mosaics

Badshahi Ashurkhana, a royal house of mourning for Shia Muslims during Muharram, is remarkable for its colorful enamel-tiled mosaics. It was built by Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1594 to memorialize the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.

The grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, Hussain was a revolutionary 7th-century leader who was killed during the Battle of Karbala on Muharram, in a fight against corruption and tyranny. Badshahi Ashurkhana was Hyderabad's second structure and is the only type of its kind in India. It's tucked away to the north of the Charminar in the Old City, not far from the High Court.

Embrace Local Food and Culture

If you're a foodie, you can't visit Hyderabad without sampling some authentic Hyderabadi biryani. This famous rice dish, aromatically cooked with meat and spices, originated from the kitchen of the Nizams. A blend of Iranian and Mughlai cuisine, it was brought to the city by the invading Mughals. Arguably, you'll find the best biryani at Hotel Shadab near Badshahi Ashurkhana. The biryani served at the Paradise restaurant chain is also well known.

Ladies who love to shop shouldn't pass up checking out the bustling bazaars west of the Charminar. The aircraft started taxiing. The crew hurriedly took their positions for take-off and the lights went off. In a short, while the Jet Airways flight that we were on was airborne. I looked out of the window as the city of Hyderabad slowly shrunk to the size of a Toyland as the plane quickly gained height. Soon we were flying high above the clouds.

I watched some huge fluffy clouds rushing towards some unknown rendezvous in haste as I reflected on the past few days.  My mind became occupied by the myriad thoughts of the city that I was leaving behind. Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana state which is in southern India.

Hyderabad was indeed an intricate mosaic of sights and experiences. If Charminar rose iconically from the midst of a busy area in the city, the Salar Jung Museum with its quiet elegance took you into another era of grandeur and style. If the famed Hyderabadi Biryani can excite your palate, the mysteries of the Golconda Fort will awe and intrigue you. I watched my own thoughts traipse around and slowly fall into place as I visualized my latest blog which would be, about the top experiences in Hyderabad – the best places to visit in Hyderabad. Though there are many popular places to visit in Hyderabad, we present to you here the most incredible places to visit in Hyderabad.

Top Things that you must do in Hyderabad – Best places to visit in Hyderabad

Be charmed by the iconic charminar.

Cholera had assumed epidemic proportions. People were falling victim to the dreaded disease like ninepins. The king in his desperation to seek relief for his subjects and Kingdom prayed fervently to God and vowed that he would build a grand mosque in that very place as soon as Cholera was eradicated from his kingdom. Cholera did get eradicated and a beautiful structure came up in the very place that the King had prayed. The king was Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah and the structure that rose from the ground in majestic style was the Charminar. This is one of the widely accepted theories of the origin of the Charminar.

The walk towards the Charminar is through a street which is literally a riot of colors. Shops that line the street are choc a bloc with colorful bangles including Lacquer Bangles which Hyderabad is famous for.

Ethnic footwear in colorful shades reminds you of the grand past of the region. This street which is also known as the Charminar Bazaar is also the place where you will find the famed Hyderabad pearls including the popular Basra pearl. The pearls are usually embellished with gold and silver and are an epitome of beauty.

Four ornate minarets rise to the sky supported by four magnificent arches in four directions. The Charminar which was constructed in 1591 has a mosque on its top floor. The Charminar is one of the iconic structures of India and has become synonymous with Hyderabad and it is definitely one of the best places to visit in Hyderabad.

Be Awed by the Mysteries of the Golconda Fort

As I thought about the Golconda Fort, it mysteries seemed to haunt me. The fort which has stood the test of time and been a silent witness to the passage of history has buried deep in its womb many an untold story. Of course, the fort is one of the most important of the heritage forts in India, but what really fascinated me was its association with the famed Kohinoor diamond .

Did you know that Golconda Fort in its heyday had a vault in which resided in sparkling splendor the most expensive diamond in the world, the Koh-I-Noor! Also giving the Koh-I-Noor company was another famous diamond known as the Hope Diamond. The Koh-I-Noor now is part of the crown jewels of the British Monarchy and is on display at the Tower of London while the Hope Diamond resides in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., United States.

Apart from its association with diamonds, another facet of the Golconda Fort that appealed to me was the ingenuity of its architecture which incorporates amazing acoustic engineering. A clap sounded in the Fateh Darwaza which is so named as to commemorate the conquest of the fort by Aurangzeb, can be heard at a pavilion situated a mile away. This ingenious piece of engineering served as an early warning system to the inmates and soldiers of approaching invaders. The Golconda or Golkonda fort was a citadel of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and the name literally translates to ‘Shepherd Hill’, in the local language. The fort is built on top of a granite hill that stands about 480 feet high. The Golconda Fort is actually made up of four forts with an outer wall that runs for 10 kilometers. The fort originally consisted of drawbridges and gates and had within it the living quarters of the royal family, stables, temples, and other buildings. The fort sprawls over an area of 11 kilometers and as I thought about it I vowed to myself to return back to explore its secrets further as I consider Golconda Fort as one of the best places to visit in Hyderabad.

Get Carried away on the wings of time at the Salar Jung Museum

Every time I am in Hyderabad, I make it a point to visit the amazing world that the Salar Jung Museum unveils. The Fascination of this museum goes back to my childhood when as a kid I listened to my father telling about a bearded man coming out of a clock and striking a gong every hour. Much later when I visited the museum for the first time, the first thing I wanted to see and saw was the musical clock which I came to know was manufactured in England and assembled in Calcutta (now known as Kolkata) in the late 19th century and consists of 350 parts. I waited with many others just before the hour struck, people were breathing heavily with excitement, when exactly 3 minutes before the hour a small door in the clock opened and a small toy figure, that of a bearded man appeared and at exactly at the 60th minute of the hour struck the gong three times. It was three times because it was 3’O’ clock. The number of times the gong is struck depends on the hour.

This musical clock does hold a special place in my heart but by no means is the most important exhibit of the museum, though it definitely is a popular one.

The Salar Jung Museum is home to the largest one-man collection of antiques in the world. The museum is a tribute to the passion of one man, Nawab Mir Yusuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III who lived from 1889 to 1949 and was a Prime Minister to the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. The prized antiques in the museum are his personal collection acquired over a period of thirty-five years. The museum will enthral visitors with its mind-boggling collection that includes carvings, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, clocks, textiles, furniture, and many other artefacts from all corners of the world. Some of the notable exhibits include the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, a sword that belonged to Aurangzeb, and one of my favorites, a sculpture of Veiled Rebecca by the Italian Sculptor G.B.Benzoni.

These were my top three experiences that gave a glimpse of the history and heritage of Hyderabad and for sure THE best places to visit in Hyderabad. Of course, Hyderabad offers many more experiences that are an indulgence for the senses. When in Hyderabad there is no option but to yield to the seduction of its famed Biryani . Though being a vegetarian , I could still experience the ecstasy of the Hyderabadi Biryani through its vegetarian variant.

A walk on the promenade around the Hussain Sagar Lake and a visit to the make-believe world of Ramoji city are some other experiences that awaits one at Hyderabad.

The Cabin lights dimmed. The crew took their positions for landing. The Jet Airways flight circled above the city and slowly but surely swooped down on the airport like a giant eagle. Another flight, another voyage of discovery was coming to an end.

I never knew the Kohinoor Diamond and Hope Diamond came from the same mine. We were just in Washington DC about two months ago and Jenn saw the Hope Diamond for the first time. I saw the Crown Jewels several times, probably about ten years ago was the last time. They are both beautiful stones.

I think Hyderabad is one of those under rated places where life is simple and there is a lot of culture to explore. I’ve enjoyed the charminar walk, since it would be abuzz and alive even at 3 am, and right after one should go to ‘Ram Ki Bandi’ to get the best cheese dosas being served from 4 am. Maybe you can cover that place next time! I have not made it to the salar jung musuem, but have been to Golconda. One another place I would reccomend is the walk around the hussain sagar lake. Simple pleasures of life!

We haven’t made it to Hyderabad during our trips to India, but the biriyani alone is a pretty significant draw in my book, but also the Golconda Fort. It is truly an exquisite area.

Some of the world’s most amazing diamonds, including the Nassak Diamond , Koh-i-Noor , and the cursed Hope Diamond are supposed to be produced here.

Hyderabad city is a colorful city of culture, cuisine, and trade and commerce. Hyderabad city is a mixture of old culture and modernity. Though Hyderabad city has the old nizam culture, it is now known as one of the most famous, significant, and important Information Technology hubs in India.

Charminar is a famous landmark in Hyderabad.  It is the most prominent landmark, situated in the heart of Hyderabad. It is built over 400 years ago. This iconic four-storied building was built in Islamic style. The very popular Charminar of Hyderabad is located in the Old City. This landmark is derived its name of four minarets which many believe stand for the first four khalifas of Islam. This place is constructed by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 . Charminar is also famous for its surrounded market, namely ‘ Laad ‘ or ‘ Chudi’ Bazaar . This architectural beauty has been enlisted in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites .

Laad Bazaar:

Laad Bazaar is a famous and historically significant market of Hyderabad, is located just close to the Charminar. Laad Bazaar is one of the famous tourist places to visit in Hyderabad. This market is well-known for its pearls and bangle collection. Laad Bazaar is amongst the oldest markets in Hyderabad. Qutub Shahi Tombs is one of the famous historical tourist destinations to visit in Hyderabad. It is placed in the Ibrahim Bagh . Qutub Shahi Tombs are a group of mosques and tombs that is built by the rulers of the Qutub Shah dynasty. These massive tombs comprise the tombs of 7 Qutub Shahi rulers. These are known as one of the oldest heritage sites of Hyderabad.

Golconda Fort:

Golconda Fort is one of the famous historical places to visit in Hyderabad. It is located in the Western part of the beautiful city of Hyderabad at a distance of 9 km from Hussain Sagar Lake. The beautiful Golconda Fort is well connected to the rest of the city. The architectural beauty Golconda Fort is one of the region’s best-preserved monuments. The fort was completed in the 1600s.  It is believed This fort is reputed for the storage area of  Koh-I-Noor diamond . This fort got its name from a Telugu word which means Shepherd’s Hill . This fort attracts its visitors with its system of acoustics, its water supply system, ‘ Rahban ‘ cannon, and Ramdas’ prison .

Durgam Cheruvu:

Durgam Cheruvu is a serene and pleasant lake. Durgam Cheruvu has a good vibe around it. The quiet place that is perfect to spent quality time with partners, friends, and family in the middle of the bustling cybercity. This lake is also popular as the ‘ Secret Lake ‘.  The lake is believed to be the main source of water for the residents of the Golconda Fort.

Hussain Sagar Lake:

Hussain Sagar Lake is considered Asia’s largest artificial lake . It is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Hyderabad. The lake was constructed by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1563. It is also famous for its unique monolith of Lord Buddha that stands right in the heart of the lake.

Hussain Sagar lake is also popular as Tank Bund . It lies on a tributary of River Musi . The statue of Lord Buddha was installed by His Holiness Dalai Lama in the year 1992. The road of this lake is also popular as the ‘ Necklace Road ‘. This lake has a unique heart-shaped outline. The Hussain Sagar Lake of Hyderabad has been declared as the ‘ Heart of the World ‘ by the United Nations World Tourism Organization .

Lumbini Park:

Lumbini Park is one of the most attractive and visited tourist destinations in Hyderabad, is nestled alongside Hussain Sagar. It is a magnificent urban park named after Lumbini of Nepal. Visitors can reach the huge statue of Lord Buddha which is installed in the Hussain Sagar lake through paddle boats. There are musical fountain shows in Lumbini park. Dedicating Lord Buddha, the park has been named after Lord Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini of Nepal.

Purani Haveli:

Purani Haveli is one of the famous and attractive places to visit in Hyderabad. This place is located in the Southeast of Afzal Gunj Bridge near Dewandevdi. Purani Haveli was used as the residence of Mir Momen , the Peshwa of Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah . Purani Haveli is a significant example of Hyderabad’s golden era. It is famous for its remarkable manifestation of art and functions as a museum. It is a magnificent structure and attractive history lovers.

Presently, Purani Haveli is known for the Nizam’s Museum that is situated in the heart of Purani Haveli and its Indo-Western architecture. There are fancy clothes, used utensils, and other used things, artifacts, and articles from his life of Nizams in the museum. Visitors can witness the royal life of Nizam of Hyderabad and how lavishly he lived. The unique feature of the Purani Haveli is a wardrobe , which is considered to be the longest in the world .

Chowmahalla Palace:

Chowmahalla Palace is one of the many historically significant tourist places in Hyderabad.  It was built in Hyderabad between 1857 and 1869 near Charminar. This major monument is a complex of four palaces, was the former official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad. Among the locals, this palace is known as Chowmahallatuu .

The amazing monument consists of two massive courtyards as well as a grand dining hall, namely ‘ Khilawat ‘. This palace is spread over 40 acres of land.  The palace is believed to be inspired by Tehran’s Shah Iran Palace . Presently, it is the property of Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah . In the year 2010,  This palace has been decorated with UNESCO’s Asia Pacific Merit award .

Jalvihar Waterpark:

Jalvihar is considered the largest water amusement park in the city of Hyderabad. It is nestled on the Necklace Road and spread over an area of 12.5 acres adjacent to Hussain Lake of Hyderabad. It has a huge variety of entertainment activities. This water park has activities including rain dance, indoor game zone, dry rides, etc to enjoy. It has also an enormous food court to enjoy some delicious dishes. This is a perfect place to spent a day out with friends and family. There locker systems to keep visitor’s valuables things securely in the park.

Nehru Zoological Park:

Nehru Zoological Park is a 50 years old zoo , spread over an area of 380acres. This Zoological Park is one of the most loved and popular attractions in the city of Hyderabad. It has around 1500 species. This zoo is also supposed to be one of the largest zoos in India. This zoo is also known as Hyderabad Zoo , is situated near the Mir Alam tank. There are species including Bengal Tiger, Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Indian Elephant, panthers, pythons, deer, antelopes, etc. A significant number of migratory birds can also be seen here.

Taramati Baradari:

Taramati Baradari is a rustic monument and one of the famous places to visit in Hyderabad. This beautiful structure is located in the Ibrahim Bagh complex , tucked beautifully at the top-hill. This magnificent structure is built by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah and nestled just outside Golconda Fort. It has 12 entrances . Presently, The Taramati Baradari building is a cultural complex that consists of a Taramati Gana Mandir, music hall, art gallery, Premathi Nritya Mandir, an open-air auditorium, a large open-air theatre, a banquet hall, and a multi-cuisine restaurant, etc. 

Snow World:

Snow World is one of the main attractions of Hyderabad and is a unique amusement park located in the heart of the city and near Hussain Sagar Lake. Snow world is spread over at an area of 17,000sft. It is considered to be the world’s third-biggest and India’s first snow-themed park . In Hyderabad, this is the only place where visitors can find snow always. So that, Snow World is very famous among tourists. From 5 degrees C freezing temperatures to alpine trees, polar bears, penguins, and snow all the way, this park has created a thrilling environment. There are various activities, including snow slides, ice skating, bumping-car, toboggan rides, ice boarding, etc to enjoy.

Birla Mandir:

The Birla Mandir is one of the serene places to visit in Hyderabad. There is a pleasant atmosphere to spend some time far from hustle-bustle city life. It is nestled on the south endpoint of Hussain Sagar Lake. The Birla Mandir is a mesmeric temple located 280 feet tall hill, namely the Naubat Pahad . The temple is modeled and dedicated to the Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala. There is an 11ft tall replica of the idol of Balaji of Tirupati . 

Salar Jung Museum:

Salar Jung Museum is situated in the heart of old Hyderabad city. This museum is among the three national museums and also one of the largest museums in India. This museum is sprawled across 10 acres of land and 2 Floors. The most wonderful part of the Salar Jung Museum is its collection that all of the artifacts belonged to and were collected by one man alone.

The collection of the Salar Jung museum is owned by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan who was also called Salar Jung III . Some valuable and rare pieces of collections in the museum are – A painting of Raja Ram Mohan Roy – the artist, daggers that belonged to Shah Jahan, Jehangir, Aurangzeb’s sword, and a full wardrobe of Tipu Sultan.

NTR Gardens:

NTR Garden is one of the famous and major tourist attractions of Hyderabad, nestled adjacent to Hussain Sagar Lake. This magnificent garden was constructed as a memorial to the late N.T. Rama Rao . The garden is spread over an area of 36 acres. Tourists can also spend time and take rest in the Japanese Garden or the Machan Tree. NTR Gardens is relatively the newest addition to spend some quality time with family.

B.M. Birla Science Museum:

B.M. Birla Science Museum ranks among the most modern and most popular planetariums in India. It is placed on the Naubat Pahad in Hyderabad. The B.M. Birla science museum was built in 1985. There are so many sections in the museum. Each of them has amazing exhibits dedicated to various fields, like, Archaeology, Antarctica Diorama, Interactive Science, and many more. B.M. Birla Science museum is one of the best-rated science institutions in the world. 

Taj Falaknuma Palace:

Taj Falaknuma Palace is a marvelous architectural work and is a famous tourist destination to visit in Hyderabad. This palace is as royal as it sounds. This magnificent piece of architecture is referred to as the ‘mirror of the sky.’ This palace is supposed to be inspired by Italian architecture. It was once the royal residence of Nizam. Chilkur Balaji Temple:

Chilkur Balaji Temple is an ancient temple of Hyderabad, located in a small village, namely Chilkur, near the Osman Sagar Lake, 30 km away from Hyderabad. This 500-years old temple is also famous as the VISA Balaji Temple . The Chilkur Balaji Temple, Hyderabad, is one of the most religiously significant places to visit. It is believed, the temple got its name when a few students who had their Visa applications rejected, came and prayed here to have their applications accepted. Chilkur VISA Balaji temple is the only temple in the country which has continued to stay out of government control. It does not accept any monetary donations from its pilgrims.

The whole structure rests on a raised platform and has intricate stonework on the arches. Interestingly, these tombs are unique for being the burial ground of a whole dynasty.

7. Hussain Sagar Lake

• Famous for:  Artificial Lake, Heart Shape, Boating, Parks.
• Tickets:  No entry fee. Charges for boating.
• Opening Timings:  Open all days from 9 AM to 9:30 PM.
• Duration: 1-2 hours.

Yet another popular tourist spot in Hyderabad is Asia’s largest artificial lake named Hussain Sagar Lake . It connects Hyderabad and Secunderabad, called the twin cities. It was excavated during the period of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1562 AD. The statue of Buddha in the middle of the lake is 16 meters tall. Boating facilities are available here. You could take part in watersports namely boating, skiing, cruising and para sailing. Apart from Hussain Sagar Lake, even the surroundings offer entertainment as you can find NTR Gardens, Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park and so on.

8. Birla Mandir

Birla Mandir is situated at the southern end of Hussain Sagar at the top of the hill. This beautiful temple built using white marble offers a stunning view of the lake and the city. The construction resembles the architectures of South Indian and Oriya temples. The amazing construction makes you want to revisit this place. A tour to Hyderabad is complete only if you visit Birla Mandir.

9. Chowmahalla Palace

• Famous for:  Nizam, History, Architecture, Opulence.

• Duration:  1.5 hours.

Located at the heart of Hyderabad, Chowmallah Palace has been standing tall for 200 years. It was the official seat of Nizams during their glorious days and all important ceremonial proceedings were held here. The palace is divided into three parts which are Southern Courtyard, Northern Courtyard and Khilwat Mubarak. These three parts have their own unique features and their intricate exteriors and opulent interiors are some of the things to look forward to while visiting. In 2010, it won the prestigious UNESCO Asia Pacific Merit award for cultural heritage conservation.

10. Ramoji Film City

• Famous for:  Film industry, Lawns, Tourism
• Tickets:  Approx 1100 INR for Adults, 1000 INR for children (between 3 & 12 years).

Ramoji Film City has the Guinness Book Record of being the world’s largest film studio. The lavish gardens and open spaces have been featured in many Indian films, the most recent example being Bahubali, which was shot extensively here. A tour of this film city is an experience on its own and therefore, Ramoji Film City is one of Hyderabad’s main attraction.

11. Spanish Mosque

• Famous for:  Spanish- Moorish architecture, Islam, Paigah
• Opening Timings:  Open all days from 5AM to 9PM.

The Spanish Mosque is inside the complex of Paigah Palace and is one of the stunning structures built by the Paigah nawabs. It is said that during Paigah Nawab Iqbal Ud Daula’s european tour, he was inspired by the architecture and decided to build something similar in Hyderabad. The result was Falaknuma Palace and Spanish Mosque, which borrow heavily from european architecture. This mosque is a one of a kind in India as it is not built in the traditional Islamic style but is instead inspired by Spanish- Moorish architecture.

12. Paigah Tombs

Paigah Tombs are the final resting place of Paigah nawabs who held significant amount power during the rule of Nizams. Their stature was second only to the Nizam himself and their influence can be still seen through the many monuments that they built around Hyderabad. Paigah Tombs have a mixture of Rajputana, Mughal, Persian and Deccan architecture. The intricate stonework, floral designs, mosaic tile works and delicately carved marble are a sight to behold. A walk through this beautiful tomb is sure to enthrall anyone.

13. Chilkoor Balaji Temple

• Famous for:  Visa, Hinduism.
• Opening Timings:  Open all days from 8am to 8pm. Extremly crowded during Tuesday and weekends.

Famously called Visa Balaji, Chilkoor Balalji is visited by thousands of US aspirants. The deity here solves all visa troubles and because of this, this temple has been also featured in many documentaries and tv shows. This also happens to be only the second temple in India where no VIP treatment is allowed. The temple also does not accept any money from devotees.

14. Nehru Zoological Park

• Famous for:  Wildlife, Zoo, Rides.
• Tickets:  Entry fee are 30 INR for adults and 15 INR for children below 12 yrs. Extra charge of 20 INR for Still Camera (Amatuer).
• Opening Timings:  Open all days except Monday from 8AM–5:30PM.

The 300-acre park with over 1500 wildlife was established in the year 1959 and inaugurated in 1963. You will find lion, royal Bengal tiger, white tiger, rhinoceros, orangutan and a lot more. Reptiles such as Indian cobra, star tortoises, and giant tortoises are also here. Elephant rides are available to enjoy the lush greenery here. Some other main attractions in this area include Lion Safari Park, Children’s Train and Natural History Museum.

15. Shamirpet

• Famous for:  Artificial Lake, Birds,
• Opening Timings:  Open all days from 9AM to 5PM.

Shamirpet offers a peaceful atmosphere with its beautiful man-made lake. It is there since the period of Nizam. There is a deer park in Shamirpet where you will find deer in great numbers and birds as well. It has all the elements required for a picnic spot right from the serene atmosphere to proper accommodation facilities.
