Insider Today

Royal Caribbean is launching a 274-night cruise around the world to set sail in 2023.

Prices start at $61,000 per person.

In a press release on Wednesday, the cruise line said it was "the longest and most comprehensive world cruise out there."

The company said the Ultimate World Cruise, set to depart from Miami, would visit more than 150 destinations in 65 countries on all seven continents.

Royal Caribbean said stops would include Casablanca in Morocco; the Great Barrier Reef in Australia; Antarctica; Brazil, where passengers can see the Christ the Redeemer statue on New Year's Eve; and Beijing.

The cruise starts at $61,000 per person

The inaugural cruise is scheduled to depart from Miami on December 10, 2023, and return on September 10, 2024.

Passengers would travel on the Serenade of the Seas , which has 13 decks and a mini-golf course, an arcade, a rock-climbing wall, a pool, a theater, and a spa. The ship can accommodate almost 2,500 passengers and more than 800 crew members, Royal Caribbean said.

Prices start at $61,000 for a person in an interior stateroom, rising to $65,000 for an oceanview stateroom and $79,000 for a balcony stateroom. A stay in a junior suite starts at $112,000 per person.

Royal Caribbean said passengers would get a 10% discount if they pay in full by January 6, 2023.

The pandemic ground world travel to a halt last year, and cruise lines' revenue plummeted . Carnival Cruises said in June 2020 that it would sell six cruise ships after posting a $4.4 billion loss.

With the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, the industry has rebounded .

"Now more than ever, people have resolved to travel the world and make up for lost time," Michael Bayley, the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean, said in the press release.

The Ultimate World Cruise is split into four legs: the Americas and Antarctica, Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, and northern Europe. Passengers can book them individually rather than opting for the full nine-month trip.

Bookings opened on Wednesday for Royal Caribbean's loyalty-program members at the diamond level or above and will open on October 27 for all other passengers, the company said.

Royal Caribbean said it would announce prices for the four individual legs of the trip when bookings for them open in December.

Here Are The Seven Modern Wonders Of The World For 2023

Update: 2023/08/08 13:34 est by luana ferreira.

The Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise has brought the definition of World Cruise to a whole new level. However, travelers can still find cruises that demand less time to explore the world. This list was updated to include more options for world cruises.

The lucky travelers who'll get to relish this unparalleled luxury exploration of planet Earth will spend a grand total of 274 nights with like-minded globetrotters, savoring iconic global highlights and mesmerizing discoveries across all seven continents. Never before offered, the Royal Caribbean Ultimate World Cruise sets sail on December 10, 2023, from Miami, Florida, returning once again from whence it departed nine months later on September 10, 2024. On four individual segments compiled into one mind-boggling trip, guests will visit 65 countries, seven continents, over 11 World Wonders, and 150 ports of call on this unrivaled venture around the world - one that truly is the be-all and end-all to beat all cruises.

Incredibly, what makes this jaunt around Earth even more remarkable is its flexibility. Should devoting a whole nine months traversing the continents be a bit too much to do on one trip, guests can pick and choose which sections of the world tour they prefer the most, allowing them to completely customize this overly bucket-list-worthy escapade to see the very best parts of the planet they wish to visit the most.

Travelers can select any of the four immersive, carefully curated Ultimate World Cruise segments of 60 plus nights instead of the entire month-to-month adventure on board, each connecting them with distinct world cultures, the most legendary landscapes, and a handful of World Wonders, all showcasing the unlimited creations and capacities of both Mother Nature and humankind alike.

The Ultimate Americas Cruise

  • 36 Destinations

The first segment of the world cruise starts in Miami, taking travelers to witness standout scenes of the Americas. From pristine Caribbean shores - such as the ABC Islands - to wildlife-watching the likes of penguins, sea lions, and whales in the glacier-filled Antarctica area of Cape Horn, the diversity involved in this section is truly show-stopping. Guests will also encounter World Wonders in South America, including extraordinary natural phenomena and magnificent man-made marvels, like Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, the world's largest waterfall system of Iguazú Falls near Buenos Aires, the biggest Art Deco sculpture in the world, and the mighty Machu Picchu - the most symbolic remnant of Peru’s ancient Inca heritage . After these sensational sights, guests will then sail up to the Yucatàn Peninsula to bear witness to secluded coves and rugged rock formations along Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas, after which they'll go on to discover enchanting Ensenada.

The Ultimate Asia Pacific Cruise

  • From February 11, 2023, to May 9, 2023
  • 40 Destinations

This legacy at sea sends voyagers on the mesmeric paths of Australia and Asia, exploring Hawaii all the way to the crystalline, warm waters of Moorea and Tahiti in paradisiacal French Polynesia. Guests will also venture off to discover the kaleidoscopic marine realm bustling on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, savor unspoiled natural scenery in Bali, and experience in person one of the most iconic human-made World Wonders - the Great Wall of China. What's more, they'll get to visit the futuristic city of Tokyo and its culture-rich, brightly lit urban sprawls, as well as take in what could easily be described as one of the most breathtaking buildings on the planet: India's stunning and highly elaborate Taj Mahal.

Not least, this section also grants travelers many of the most revered attractions and pre-historic ruins across both the Mediterranean and Aegean seas, including the Acropolis in Athens, the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, and even the impressive Colosseum in Rome.

If none of these destinations and world marvels quite do it for travelers, perhaps checking out many more wonderful European sites steeped in history and stories of the past might make this section of the cruise all the more appealing, with the city of Split in Croatia , Beautiful Barcelona in Spain, and the dazzling French duos of Provence and Cannes all on the roster.

Next up, the final natural marvel on the menu is akin to an alien planet - the geothermal seawater at Iceland's The Blue Lagoon, which is followed by a much-loved city destination - New York. Last but not least, the journey is perfected by a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay - Royal Caribbean's private island exclusive to its guests - before heading back to Miami to end what will have been the most life-changing adventure any human might ever take that's not in space.

For $61,000, you can take Royal Caribbean’s 274-night cruise around the world

The ultimate world cruise will visit more than 150 destinations.

ultimate world cruise price

Cruise-lovers yearning to return to the open seas, this news is for you: Royal Caribbean International announced its inaugural 274-day Ultimate World Cruise will set sail in 2023.

The more than 150-destination itinerary aboard the Serenade of the Seas starts in Miami and includes visits to every continent, 65 countries and 11 world wonders . It will cost you $61,000 for an interior state room, all the way up to $112,000 for a junior suite.

The cruise will sail from Dec. 10, 2023, to Sept. 10, 2024. Bookings can be made by phone now.

The journey includes opportunities to see just about every iconic tourist draw on the planet. Mount Fuji, the Taj Mahal, the Great Barrier Reef, Chichen Itza, Machu Picchu, the Blue Lagoon and the Great Wall of China. If you can think of it, it’s probably on the list.

The star of the show are obviously the ports of call, but what about the ship you will be living on for 274 nights? According to Cruise Critic , Serenade of the Seas is a midsize vessel that can carry 2,100-passengers and nearly 900 crew members.

Peak Caribbean cruise season is coming. Here’s what to know before getting on board.

The ship’s website promises a lot to do, which is important considering world cruise guests will be spending a lot of time on board.

Many amenities are ones you may expect, such as a theater, a spa and a fitness center. Then there are the ones you might not, including mini golf, rock climbing and singalong parties. There’s a nightclub where guests can go to “dance, chill or be noticed,” a card room and a game show. Travelers can attend guest lectures and take classes on cupcake-making, scrapbooking, dancing, sushi and foreign languages, among others.

On Royal Caribbean’s Facebook post announcing the world cruise , fans celebrated the news but lamented the cost.

“Lord, let me run grab a lottery ticket real quick!” Rebecca Taylor Little commented.

“Sounds absolutely wonderful! It breaks my heart that I’ll probably never be able to experience it,” Trisha O’Neill commented. “Why are all the cool itineraries reserved for only the rich?”

Covid will find its way onto cruises. The critical thing is what happens next.

A number of companies have reintroduced world cruises after a pandemic hiatus, and they, too, are not cheap.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ 143-night world cruise, priced from $78,000 to $209,000, departs on Jan. 7, 2023. Oceania Cruises’ 2023 “Around The World In 180 Days” voyage sold out in a single day when bookings (starting at $41,600) went live on Jan. 27, 2021. Silversea also sold out its 2023 world cruise in a day , with fares ranging from $74,000 to $278,000 per person.

As the cruise industry recovers from billions of dollars in losses, most are operating with new covid protocols in place to avoid onboard outbreaks. On Royal Caribbean cruises leaving from the U.S. and various other international ports, all passengers 12 and older must be vaccinated . All passengers must present negative tests before boarding and can expect indoor mask mandates

While the delta variant surge appeared to impact cruise sales over the summer, it seems customers don’t need much convincing to sign up for sailings again. Carnival announced last month that the company’s “cumulative advanced bookings for the second half of 2022 are ahead of a very strong 2019.” Data from Expedia Group’s Expedia Cruises 2021 Virtual Conference comparing the first quarters of 2021 to 2019 shows the average length of cruise bookings has increased, as has the average spend per cabin.

“People love cruising and people are tired of boredom,” Vicky Freed, Royal Caribbean International’s senior vice president of sales, trade support and service, told The Washington Post in August. “People are saying ‘I want to go out’ and they’re spending more on vacations now because they have vacation dollars saved up from 2020 and possibly 2021.”

Living at sea: Travelers on a 9-month world cruise are going viral on social media. For some travelers, not even nine months was enough time on a ship; they sold cars, moved out of their homes and prepared to set sail for three years . That plan fell apart, but a 3.5-year version is waiting in the wings.

Passengers beware: It’s not all buffets and dance contests. Crime data reported by cruise lines show that the number of sex crimes has increased compared to previous years. And though man-overboard cases are rare, they are usually deadly .

The more you know: If you’re cruise-curious, here are six tips from a newcomer. Remember that in most cases, extra fees and add-ons will increase the seemingly cheap price of a sailing. And if you happen to get sick , know what to expect on board.

Now that you know the range of ticket prices, let’s talk payment options. The deadline for paying in full and getting a 10% saving is January 6th, 2023. You can choose to pay in full or opt for a payment plan. Keep in mind that booking the full cruise only saves you $396, so it may be better to opt for a smaller portion of the journey.

Whatever you choose, make sure to book soon as 70% of tickets have already sold in the first week. The journey of a lifetime awaits!

Booking and Saving tips

To maximize savings on the Royal Caribbean Ultimate World Cruise, I highly recommend booking through a travel agent who can secure the best deal for you. Not all travel agents are created equal, so it’s important to compare prices from various agents to ensure the lowest price possible.

In addition to comparison shopping, loyalty rewards are another way to save money on the ultimate world cruise. As a Platinum Crown Anchor member, you’ll receive seven free shore excursions, which can add up to significant savings. If you’re not already a member, I suggest booking another cruise with Royal Caribbean to work towards achieving Platinum Crown Anchor status. Overall, taking advantage of these tips can help you save money and make the most of your once-in-a-lifetime experience on the ultimate world cruise.

Note: Prices and savings are subject to change and may vary based on availability and other factors. It’s important to do thorough research and comparison shopping before booking.

Author Recommendations

Exploring different travel agents and loyalty rewards programs can potentially save you a significant amount of money on the Royal Caribbean Ultimate World Cruise. As a seasoned traveler, I highly recommend shopping around for the best deals before making a final decision.

Platinum perks, such as included shore excursions and access to exclusive areas on the ship, can also add value to your overall experience. Additionally, booking through a trusted travel agent can provide valuable insights and insider knowledge on the best cabins, excursions, and overall itinerary for your trip.

When it comes to loyalty rewards programs, becoming a Platinum Crown Anchor member can unlock even more perks and savings. By booking multiple cruises with Royal Caribbean, you can earn points that can be redeemed for discounts, free amenities, and even priority boarding. However, it’s important to weigh the benefits of loyalty programs against the potential savings offered by other travel agents.

Ultimately, the key to a successful and affordable Ultimate World Cruise is to do your research, compare prices, and book through a trusted source.

What is the age limit for passengers on the Ultimate World Cruise?

The minimum age for passengers on the Ultimate World Cruise is 12 months, but there are age restrictions for certain activities. As an avid traveler, I appreciate the opportunity to explore the world with Royal Caribbean, no matter my age.

Are there any restrictions on the amount of luggage that passengers can bring on board?

I researched and found out that Royal Caribbean has a luggage policy which limits passengers to two bags per person and a maximum weight of 50 pounds each. Packing tips include bringing clothes for various occasions and climates, and leaving space for souvenirs.

What kind of medical facilities are available on the ship?

Onboard medical facilities and emergency services are available on the ship. The facilities include a fully equipped medical center with trained medical professionals, emergency response teams, and 24/7 medical care. Passengers can rest assured that their health needs will be taken care of during the voyage.

Is there a dress code for dining and entertainment on the ship?

Dress code etiquette is important for dining attire on the ship. Formal vs. casual dress code is determined by the restaurant and event. I recommend packing versatile outfits for a relaxed but stylish experience.

Can passengers bring their own alcohol on board?

Yes, there is an alcohol policy on board. Passengers are not allowed to bring their own alcohol, but there are BYOB options for wine and champagne with corkage fees. Customs regulations and duty free allowances apply.

10 Around-the-world Cruises for the Trip of a Lifetime

These world cruises offer the ultimate itineraries.

ultimate world cruise price

Want to island hop around French Polynesia, visit Africa's incredible cities, and cruise through Asia without ever switching hotels or repacking your bags? An around-the-world cruise provides the ultimate itinerary, packed with exciting international destinations (some even visit hard-to-reach destinations like Easter Island and Antarctica), and luxury cruise lines provide comfortable accommodations, specialty restaurants, and plenty to do on and off the ship.

There are two main things you need before booking a world cruise: plenty of time and some spare cash. Prices range from around $20,000 to upwards of $100,000 per person, and all our top picks are more than 100 days (one is even a whopping 275 days), so they're ideal for retired travelers looking for their next big adventure. Pack wisely for a range of destinations and climates, and get ready for the journey of a lifetime, filled with postcard-perfect destinations and new friends (because you're bound to meet a travel buddy or two after 100-plus days on a ship). If an around-the-world cruise is at the top of your travel list, you'll want to book sooner rather than later — these journeys frequently sell out because many cruise lines only offer a limited number of sailings.

Here are ten of the best around-the-world cruises you can take in 2023 and 2024.

Serenade of the Seas is the Radiance-class ship that will undergo this epic voyage.

While it is one of Royal Caribbean’s smaller and older ships, it still has a guest capacity of nearly two thousand five hundred. It has also been renovated since 2022 to prepare and upgrade it for the journey ahead.

The vessel is home to a lot of glass and panoramic views, ensuring that guests can enjoy the pristine natural beauty all around them. As with any other vessel in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, Serenade of the Seas offers a wide selection of attractions and activities to be enjoyed while onboard. From swimming and shopping to watching live performances and indulging in some fine dining, Serenade of the Seas has everything you need to be entertained throughout your journey.

Because your flight to Miami and all your entertainment, drinks, food, and accommodation on the ship are included, there isn’t much else you have to pay for. However, it is recommended that guests take spending money for shore days.

If you’re not on a tight budget, the easiest way to enjoy shore days is by purchasing Royal Caribbean’s excursions. However, these can be expensive and may not be ideal for guests on a budget.

Keep in mind that if you plan on just doing your own thing when visiting the many ports of call, you will need to plan thoroughly.

The Western Mediterranean and the Adriatic

Cradles of Creativity

Packed with spectacular age-old landmarks and grand architecture, history comes thick and fast in the Western Med and the Adriatic. Journeying through Italy, wonder at the Colosseum and Pantheon - ancient reminders of Rome’s time as world’s largest empire - and wander Pompeii’s ruins, frozen-in-time after Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79AD. Against the bold blues and powder-white sands of the Adriatic, admire Slovenia’s Venetian-influenced buildings, the 4th-century pizazz of Split’s Diocletian's Palace, Dubrovnik’s dramatic Old Town, and Montenegro’s mighty forts. Whether genning up on the Knights of Malta in Valletta, discovering Napoleon’s childhood in Corsica, cruising along the French Riviera to Mallorca - where Arab and Balearic influences meet - or reveling in Gaudi’s masterpieces in Barcelona, you’ll be enthralled by history at every stop on this story-filled vacation.

Nice, France

The legacy of the Renaissance - a cultural movement borne in 14th-century Italy, which spread throughout Europe shaping intellectual life, art, architecture and the arts can be seen in abundance as you travel through the region’s most extraordinary cities. Discover the mind-blowing art of the Renaissance masters at Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice and Rome’s Galleria Borghese, a 17th-century villa which houses art, sculptures and antiquities. See first-hand why Michelangelo’s dreamy ceiling frescoes at the Sistine Chapel, and the famed corridors of Florentine mega-museum The Uffizzi deserve a spot on every art-lover’s bucket list. Just as compelling are Kotor’s Maritime Museum, which reveals the area’s fascinating seafaring history, and Malta’s National Museum of Archeology, which houses masses of prehistoric art and Neolithic pottery. Altogether more contemporary, is Cannes, renowned for its glamorous film festival.

A warm climate, fertile landscapes and teeming waters make for a rather delicious roll call as you sail through the Adriatic and the Western Mediterranean. Live La Dolce Vita - or sweet life - in Italy, where cafe culture reigns, and staples include fresh pasta, pizza, gelato , and lashings of olive oil and wine. Try pillowy-soft burrata cheese in Puglia, Sicilian eggplant and ricotta signature pasta alla norma , and classic Neopolitan-style Margherita pizza in its birthplace, Naples. Seafood’s a real Adriatic superstar; don’t miss Slovenian seafood rizota (risotto) - with a glass of local white rebula wine - and Dalmatian pašticada (beef stew) and rožata custard pudding in Croatia. Corsica’s signature civet de sanglier offers heartiness aplenty, while socca (chickpea pancakes) are a French Rivieran favorite, Marseille’s seafood bouillabaisse packs a liquorice-y kick thanks to fennel and  pastis , while Barcelona excels at seafood paella and crema catalana , a Catalan take on creme brûlée.

Alongside a serious hit of history and culture, awaken your senses exploring the region’s sun-soaked beaches, crystal-clear bays and breathtaking volcanic, forested landscapes. Take invigorating dips in Bari’s bays or sun yourself on Torre Sant’Andrea whilst admiring its dramatic sea stacks. Dubrovnik’s an adventure junkie’s dream; try cliff diving, kayaking, or scuba dive to see the Taranto wreck, and its quirky submerged tractors. Get your heart rate going hiking in Portofino Regional Park’s lush network of trails, and wonder at Mount Etna’s volcanic vineyards and lava pits in Sicily. For more natural thrills, travel to Corsica’s Scandola Nature Reserve to spot eagles soaring over stunning rock formations, or discover the Cuevas del Drach - Mallorca’s dragon caves - an underground lair full of limestone stalactites and stalagmites.

Insider tips Good to know in every situation

When visiting religious sites such as churches, mosques or synagogues, dress modestly, particularly in the Middle East. Opt for long sleeves, and keep your shoulders, back and legs covered. A lightweight scarf or sarong can come in handy as a makeshift headscarf or coverup, which can be easily thrown on at the last minute if it’s unexpectedly required.

Sprawling ancient marvels and Europe’s cobblestone-lined, often narrow city streets are best explored on foot. To ensure you make the most of things, pack a well-worn-in pair of comfortable shoes, and some trusty blister plasters, just in case.

Temperatures in the Middle East and the Med can really soar, plus there’s plenty of time spent on beaches and in the desert on this segment, so invest in a decent wide-brimmed hat, eco-friendly sunscreen, and keep a refillable bottle of water with you as you explore.

Madison Schwetje is living the Suite Life on Deck onboard the viral 9-month Ultimate World Cruise fr...

A TikToker Shares A Day At Sea On The Viral 9-Month World Cruise

Madison Schwetje is living the Suite Life on Deck.

It’s one thing to go on a cruise for four or five nights, but guests currently traveling on the Serenade of the Seas have committed themselves to sailing around the world for nine months straight. Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise, which set sail on Dec. 10, has taken over TikTok — or CruiseTok — with users following those on board like they’re cast members in a reality show.

A fan favorite among the Ultimate World Cruise guests is Madison Schwetje ( @madisonworldtravler ), who is cruising with her entire family, including her sister Brooklyn . Not only is she seeing the world while sailing the seas, but Madison is also studying online as a full-time student at the University of Central Florida (UCF). For those with wanderlust, she’s living the dream.

I enjoy having others online share these once-in-a-lifetime experiences with me.

When the Serenade of the Seas first set sail, the 274-night itinerary included seeing 11 World Wonders and more than 60 countries. Though the ship has had to make a few schedule changes along the way, Madison tells Elite Daily, “This trip is already such an amazing experience.”

Getting to share her travels with everyone on TikTok through daily vlogs with more than 4.5 million views has only made Madison love the Ultimate World Cruise more. The Pi Beta Phi sorority sister says, “I pride myself on making positive content, and I enjoy having others online share these once-in-a-lifetime experiences with me.”

Below, Madison shares what a typical (and not-as-dramatic-as-you-may-think ) day is like on the Serenade of the Seas , from waking up to the sun rising over the Pacific Ocean to studying for classes in one of the ship’s cafes.

A Typical Sea Day Morning Filled With Working Out & Sunbathing

6 a.m.: I enjoy getting an early start to my day and catching the sunrise. My first alarm goes off at 6 a.m., and by 6:30 a.m., I am out the door and ready to start my day. I am obsessed with skin care, so I’ve been trying to add new products from around the world into my morning routine.

Madison Schwetje shares a day in the life on the Ultimate World Cruise, including seeing the sunrise...

Every stop so far has been filled with its own experiences that have made it extremely special. The Caribbean was filled with fun days in the sea, and South America was a region of the world that I had never visited before. Experiencing the beautiful cultures, delicious food, and kind people has been priceless, but today, we aren’t stopping in any ports.

It’s a sea day, and my first stop on the ship is to head up to Deck 12 to watch the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean.

7 a.m. : About an hour after I wake up, it’s time for my daily workout, which is mainly a mix of lifting and cardio. What I love the most about exercising on the ship is the view from the gym. It is surrounded by windows, so you can see the water.

Madison shares what it's like going to the gym on the nine-month world cruise.

8:30 a.m.: After my workout, I fuel up at the coffee shop with a vanilla latte, then head back to my stateroom to change into my bathing suit.

Once I’m ready, I head up to Windjammer, the buffet on the ship, to eat breakfast. I normally have an omelet and yogurt with fresh juice. It’s sooo refreshing.

9 a.m.: Every sea day morning, there is a 45-minute Zumba class out on the pool deck, which is an amazing energy booster. Once I’m sufficiently warmed up and sweaty , I jump into the pool to cool off.

10 a.m.: I spend about an hour and a half reading out on the pool deck. This has easily become one of my favorite sea day activities.

Madison shares her day in the life on the Ultimate World Cruise, including reading on the pool deck....

As a souvenir, I will go into a bookstore when we’re in port and ask the bookseller their favorite book. I take their recommendation and ask them to sign their name along with where we are in the world. This has become a tradition for me that I love.

On one of our stops, I visited a used bookstore. I asked the bookseller for any recommendations they had. With it being a used bookstore, everything was pretty random, but the first novel she pulled off the shelf was my favorite book of all time: Captain Corelli’s Mandolin .

Over the summer, I visited the Greek island where the movie was filmed. It is a very special film for me and my family. The cover of the book was different from my original copy, so I had to get it. I am now able to reread one of my favorite stories, and I have a very special memory of finding this copy.

11:30 a.m.: Lunchtime! I eat lunch with my family and friends while we talk about all the different topics that fill our time together. Through this experience, other guests and crew have become like our new family.

Editor’s note: Meet cute alert! Through this trip, Madison and her sister frequently run into fellow creators, like Christian Hull , Little Rat Brain, and Brandee Lake .

Madison shares her day on the nine-month world cruise, and getting lunch.

A special moment we all shared was when we were in Rio for New Year’s Eve, and we got to experience ringing in 2024 together. Meal times have become one of my favorite times, because I spend it with the people I am closest with.

An Afternoon Spent Studying For Class In One Of The Ship’s Coffee Shops

Madison shares going to the Windjammer at the Ultimate World Cruise.

12:30 p.m.: After lunch, it’s back to my room for a shower before getting ready for the rest of the afternoon. I love to use Glossier, Patrick Ta, and Charlotte Tilbury for my everyday makeup routine (not #sponcon).

1 p.m.: Ah, yes, another latte run at the coffee shop (the caffeine obsession is real). Then it’s full speed ahead to find one of the open tables around the ship to begin my workload. I am currently a full-time student at the University of Central Florida.

I enjoy being in school, and doing it while seeing the world has been one of the most incredible experiences.

I am majoring in health sciences, and I plan on starting nursing school in the fall; I would like to become a travel nurse. I enjoy being in school, and doing it while seeing the world has been one of the most incredible experiences. If I can use my nursing degree to help others while continuing to travel, that would be the dream.

Despite being away from campus and working remotely, I don’t have any FOMO for things going on at UCF. I am so eager and excited to be on this journey with my family, who are the closest people to me.

Madison shares how she's able to go to UCF while on Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise.

Plus, I can study with friends who are also in school on the ship. We handle our workload while also looking forward to our upcoming ports of call. I cannot wait to see Asia, Africa, and Europe.

2 p.m.: During this time, I can usually be found wrapping up school assignments, creating videos, or dealing with logistics back home. The Wi-Fi on board the Serenade has never failed me (so far).

4:30 p.m.: I return to my cabin to change again. Tonight is extra special because it’s a formal night on board, which calls for suits, ties, cocktail dresses, or even evening gowns if you’d prefer.

Editor’s note: On a typical three- to five-day cruise, there might be one formal night; on a seven-day cruise, there are usually two; on ~two-week cruises, there are usually three or four.

5 p.m.: Snacking before dinner is a must. My sister and I love to spend this time in the lounge chatting with other passengers on board.

One of the largest accomplishments of this trip so far was making it to Antarctica, and I will never forget going into Paradise Bay and enjoying the scenery with everyone else.

A Fun Formal Night With Dinner, Dance Parties, & Shows

6 p.m.: One of the best times on the ship is when dinner opens. There is a small dance party with a song relating to the theme for the night. One night, we had an ’ 80s-themed party , where the guests all dressed up. It is so much fun to dance with the crew and chefs before we eat dinner.

Madison shares what it's like during formal night on Royal Caribbean's cruise ship.

Another reason this is one of my favorite times on board is the food. It’s amazing, and I have been able to try and eat a variety of dishes every day.

7:30 p.m.: There is a Broadway-style show in the theater after dinner. As a family, we have enjoyed attending these shows throughout our voyage. We look forward to show times and love to support the cast.

8:15 p.m.: My sister and I head to the pub and a few of the other bars around the ship to enjoy the formal night festivities.

Madison shares what the activities are like on one of Royal Caribbean's sea day.

9 p.m.: There is always something going on around the ship, such as live music in the centrum, so my sister and I join our friends for yet another fun night.

11 p.m.: As the night ends, I head back to my stateroom once more and get ready for bed. I am excited to some rest in before another sea day tomorrow.

I have met so many people, experienced numerous cultures, and had the most amazing time.

This entire trip has been such a learning experience. I have met so many people, experienced numerous cultures, and had the most amazing times in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru... all the way to the end of the world in Ushuaia.

We’ve had such an enriching time so far — and we’re not even halfway through the entire experience.

This as-told-to has been condensed and edited for clarity.

A Deep Dive Into the 9-Month Ultimate World Cruise

Originally appeared on E! Online

If you don't fear cabin fever, perhaps nine months at sea is for you.

But if even the very idea of a 274-night cruise has you reaching for Dramamine, you can always just stay on land and scroll TikTok .

Because much like Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour, you can see a lot of what's happening aboard Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise without shelling out five figures for a plum seat, in this case thanks to some of the younger-than-average cruisers making good use of the free Wi-Fi.

Well, free with the entry-level $53,999 price for passage aboard the Symphony of the Seas , which will reportedly carry 27,000 guests in total over the four legs of the trip, while more than 600 were booked for the entire itinerary.

And, naturally, many people are just making TikToks about the cruise, hoping for some Below Deck -meets- Love Boat -style intrigue, with maybe a little Triangle of Sadness thrown in for schadenfreude.

The Most Dramatic Below Deck Firings Ever

"Imagine eating unlimited cruise food for nine months, like what that's going to do to your body," TikToker Grassmoons pondered on Dec. 14. "I just worry people aren't going to pace themselves and it's going to be really hard on their bodies."

Nevertheless, her post was captioned, "You best believe if I had $60k id be on that ship."

Meanwhile, content creator Marc Sebastian predicted "mutiny" in a Dec. 20 TikTok: "There's going to be blood. Someone is going overboard. I want to watch. Bravo, where are you? I need eyes. We're witnessing Fyre Festival, Alabama Rush and no one is rushing there."

Within two weeks after the ship's departure from Miami on Dec. 10, TikToks tagged #UltimateWorld Cruise had been watched more than 54.8 million times, according to NBC News . That number had grown to more than 150 million by the time the clock struck 2024.

And Sebastian, 33, ended up going aboard for an 18-day stretch in January courtesy of Simon & Schuster's Atria Books, which enlisted him to host a virtual book club. His trip included a choppy ride through the Drake Passage (" Drake 's best work since hotline bling," he captioned a post ), the body of water between South America's Cape Horn and Antarctica's South Shetland Islands.

He also made oodles of TikToks, poking his phone into every nook and cranny of the ship and documenting his experience on, as he cheekily put it, "this floating retirement home with a Cheesecake Factory attached."

The admitted cruise skeptic told NPR before he disembarked, "I really did think at the very beginning that I was going to find a lot of interpersonal drama within the people. But unfortunately, they're all so nice —crazy!—and they are all really kind. There's a really amazing sense of community."

And while the cruise has been going viral since it was first announced in 2021, it made more unfortunate headlines following the death of a passenger this month .

The person's identity was not released, Royal Caribbean telling E! News in a Feb. 14 statement, "We are actively providing support and assistance to the guest's loved ones at this time" and would not be sharing further details "out of the privacy of the guest and their family."

According to People , another passenger said in a since-deleted Feb. 11 TikTok that the deceased was an "elderly lady" who'd passed away the previous night.

But since the Ultimate World Cruise has another seven months to go, we may as well dock and unpack what's been happening onboard right here:

Where Does the Ultimate World Cruise Go?

The 274-night Ultimate World Cruise is scheduled to visit more than 150 ports of call in 65 countries on all seven continents, according to Royal Caribbean .

The first leg, the Ultimate Americas, ran from Dec. 10 until Feb. 11 and took passengers around North America, South America, the Caribbean and Antarctica. World wonders on the to-see list included the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and Machu Pichu.

Leg two, Ultimate Asia Pacific, sails around Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China and India—encompassing sites like the Great Barrier Reef, the Great Wall and the Taj Mahal—through May 9.

The third quarter, Ultimate Middle East and Med, goes till July 10 (and there will be pyramids), while the final leg—Ultimate Europe and Beyond—concludes Sept. 10, also known as the day people disembark, kiss the ground and cry, "Land!!!"

Aside from the whole nine months, or the duration of an entire leg, travelers had the option to book a nine-to-28-night voyage.

How Much Does the Ultimate World Cruise Cost?

What price paradise?

Individual passage for the entire thing starts at $53,999 (minus taxes and fees but including roundtrip business-class airfare and gratuities) for an Interior Stateroom and can run up to $105,839 for a Junior Suite. There's also a price-upon-request tier for "other suite categories."

A "deluxe beverage package," wash-and-fold laundry service and Wi-Fi are among the included amenities.

Meet the Boat

Royal Caribbean enlisted the Radiance-class  Serenade of the Seas , which holds 2,490 guests and 891 crew, for the Ultimate World Cruise experience. Built in Germany, she made her maiden voyage in 2003.

The ship boasts 12 passenger decks and nine passenger elevators (six of them glass), multiple pools (including a rain-or-shine option under a retractable glass roof), a fitness center, a spa, mini-golf, rock climbing, restaurants, bars and lounges, shops, an arcade, movies, live entertainment and a nightclub, plus all sorts of classes and activities.

And, according to content creator Marc Sebastien , who spent 18 nights aboard during the first leg of the journey, the ship's godmother—"Did you guys know that ships have godmothers?"—is Whoopi Goldberg .

He showed a photo of the entertainer with a plaque apparently designating her as such in a Jan. 22 TikTok . But he had thoughts, adding, "As an EGOT winner...I just don't feel like this is the right ship for you."

Who Is On the Ultimate World Cruise?

"We are thrilled to be hosting a range of guests from young solo travelers, to couples and families," Dave Humpreys , director of sales at Royal Caribbean International AUNZ, told news.com.au . "We have an impressive number of Gen-Z and millennial cruisers, with a significant number of guests between the ages of 18 to 30 joining us on various legs of this cruise."

But it  is still a cruise.

"I would say the majority, like the overwhelming majority of passengers, are retirees [or seniors]," 29-year-old  Alé Kenney , who will be celebrating her fourth wedding anniversary with husband Andrew Kenney during the voyage, told TODAY.com  in December.

The young couple, who are among the many TikTok enthusiasts aboard, explained that they decided to go for it after Alé's father died of cancer at 57.

"We were like, 'Well, we can do it. We don't have a mortgage right now. We don't have kids yet,'" Andrew said. "We're just in a season of life where we could actually take nine months off and see the world."

Brandee Lake , 46, and sister Shannon , 42, are sharing a state room while on the trip with their retired parents. "We definitely are the youngest Black people on the boat," Brandee told TODAY.com . Shannon added, "I think that's why my TikTok skyrocketed so fast, because I was the first Black person that people were seeing post that was actually on the ship."

Angie Linderman , another young cruiser, said she had tested positive for the BRCA2 gene , which is linked to an increased risk of certain cancers, so there was no time like the present.

"Retirement age is not a guarantee," she explained. "And so [I'm putting] an emphasis on just doing all of the things I can do now while I'm healthy, while I'm able, instead of putting them off in hopes that I can do them later, when in reality that may not happen."

What Happens if There's a Medical Emergency?

News of a passenger death aboard the Ultimate World Cruise in February understandably caused concern among landlubbers seeing the headlines, visions of Agatha Christie mysteries dancing through their heads.

While the cruise line didn't release any details, citing the family's privacy, a content creator on the trip posted (then deleted) a TikTok in which she said the deceased was an "elderly lady."

A 2018 study from the Cruise Lines International Association stated that 50 percent of cruise ship passengers on average were over the age of 50 and almost a third of that group were older than 70. According to the Maritime Injury Guide , which noted that cruise ships tend to carry between 3,000 and 5,000 passengers, it's estimated that around 200 people die on a cruise every year.

Royal Caribbean explained in its FAQ section that medical staff is booked according to how many people are onboard, and on the Ultimate World Cruise they expected to have two or three doctors, three to five nurses and a medical secretary. (No dentists, but cruise staff will help guests find one in port.)

Listed onboard equipment and facilities includes cardiac monitors, automated external defibrillators, ventilators, x-ray machines and processors, laboratory equipment, a selection of acute care medications, a regular pharmacy and a variety of minor surgical and orthopedic supplies.

What's the onboard drama factor so far?

Speaking from the ship, passenger Brandee told  TODAY  in an interview that aired Dec. 27 that after initially being mistaken for a member of the staff—"Apparently it seemed far fetched to some that a Black woman (and family) could be a guest on the once in a lifetime experience," she captioned a TikTok about the encounter—the cruise's hotel director made sure to greet her personally at dinner to find out if all was well.

Otherwise, Brandee added, "everything has been great" and the passengers were turning into "one growing family."

She has continued to post near-daily TikToks, breaking down the at-times complicated logistics and rules regarding cruise lingo such as "independent journeys." She recently reassured concerned commenters who were aghast that she had to run it by the cruise line when she wanted to do her own thing while in Los Angeles that it was a customs issue—though she admittedly LOL'd when asked to "blink twice" if she needed help.

But as of February, nothing too wild had been reported during what looked like the colder portion of the trip.

And yet those creative TikTokers still managed to crank out content, showing off how they'd decorated their state rooms , reviewing the food,  making a farce out of trying to get a towel to stay on a lounge chair when its windy and  showing off icebergs (from a safe distance) en route to Antarctica.

Still, maybe whimsysoul's Ultimate World Cruise Bingo game—"lost passport chaos," "COVID outbreak," "staff dates passenger," etc.—will pick up once the weather gets warmer.

Bumps in the Road, er, Water

It hasn't been smooth sailing  all the way. The very first scheduled port—Devil's Island (off the coast of French Guiana in South America)—was scrapped due to bad weather, as seen in TikToks compiled by TODAY .

Then, there was a flood up on deck 12 caused by a storm (though, good news for everyone, it appeared to be rain water and not anything... murkier ).

And after all that sailing  toward Antarctica, the passengers weren't able to actually set foot on the icy continent. But it looked really beautiful.
