Some typical tapas that you can taste in Barcelona:

Pan con Tomate : The quintessential Catalan tapa. White bread rubbed with tomato and drizzled in oil and salt. A perfect accompaniment to the rest of your tapas.

Patatas Bravas : The fried potatoes of Spain. Small fried cubes of potato served with two sauces – alioli (a garlic mayonnaise) and a spicy tomato sauce.

Chipirones : I have never seen these fried squid outside of Spain. They are small and you will get a plate full of them.

Anchovies : These anchovies are not normally the very salty type you may be used to. They are served in vinegar with parsley and garlic. Delicious.

Russian Salad : Not the healthiest of salads. It is a heavy dish composed of potatoes, peas, hard boiled eggs and other vegetables, covered with mayonnaise.

Croquettes : Croquettes are often made with ham, fish, chicken or spinach. They are made of a kind of béchamel sauce, breaded and fried.

All accompanied by a good beer, one of the great Spanish wines or your favorite soft drink.

Walking Tapas Tour in Barcelona

Gourmet wine and tapas tour of barcelona.

Eat like a local – no cookie cutter stops!

Are you a serious foodie? Is food one of your top interests when traveling? Does eating for 4 hours sound like an incredible plan to you? [ NEW ! Now shorter options available! ] Would you like to discover the Spanish and Catalan food culture through its tapas and wine, but don’t want to be taken to cheese places were you are forced to eat what the guide has ordered beforehand?

If you are like me, food is one of my priorities when traveling. I do my research to learn what are the traditional dishes I must try and where to find them. But all this research takes lots of time and effort. And what about feeling lost reading the restaurant menus and not knowing what to order? (or not understanding it at all if it’s only available in the local lingo).

Tapas started as a bite to go with your wine, but they have evolved into a whole way of eating, a culture of food in itself. More than a type of food in special, it’s about finger food or small portions to share with your friends and family. And since a variety of tapas is ordered at each stop, it’s the perfect way to taste many different specialties and enjoy the wealth of the local cooking.

A tapas and wine tour is a great way to get in touch with the local foods, but most tours in Barcelona aren’t private: you are put together with other people and have to adapt to whatever the group (or the guide) decides to order, and that might match your preferences… or not. That totally limits the fun!

Our Barcelona wine and tapas tours are different: We love food, and we know the top tapas bars in Barcelona – and that’s where we want to take you. We know what’s best at each place, what you absolutely need to taste, and what to order depending on your taste. Our guide makes suggestions but only orders what you say you want to try: a completely custom tour (most other tapas tours in Barcelona pre-order a set of dishes, the same every time – that’s not our way of doing things). Come with us on this lunchtime or evening tapas tour, for the best local food experience.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS TAPAS EVENING WALKING TOUR OF BARCELONA:

4 TO 6 BARS (Every time a different choice)   |    GREAT FOOD (Selected from your favorites) ADVENTUROUS (Or as safe as you need it to be)   |    LOVE DESSERT? (Optional way to end)

WHY THIS IS THE BEST BARCELONA TAPAS TOUR

✓ Unlike most companies in Barcelona, each of our tours is different. We DO NOT pre-set orders for you, so you can be free to order exactly what you feel like tasting. ✓ Our guides are both foodies and licensed tour guides. They know how to provide exciting conversation about whatever you want to talk about, be it food or history, politics or local life. ✓ Discover the authentic bars where Barcelona locals go, and stay away from the tourist traps. ✓ Learn how to order tapas the right way, like a local from Spain. ✓ Expand your knowledge about Spanish wine and other local drinks. ✓ Leave with a custom list of recommendations for other shops and best Barcelona restaurants to visit during your stay. ✓ And much more, in a private food tour just for you and your party!

  • THIS PRIVATE TAPAS AND WINE TOUR RUNS : Monday through Saturday. WEAKEST DAYS : – Monday : some tapas bars are closed. – August : many bars are closed for holidays. The tour can still be run, but the food options won’t be as exciting… NOT AVAILABLE : Sunday and local bank holidays.
  • TOUR LENGHT : 4 hours.
  • RECOMMENDED STARTING TIME : – LUNCHTIME TOURS : Noon. – EVENING TOURS : 7PM (earlier most bars are still closed)
  • WHERE DO WE MEET ? Your accommodation in Barcelona, or in the Gothic Quarter.
  • WHERE DO WE END ? In the Born district near the Picasso Museum.
  • HOW DO WE MOVE AROUND ? This tour is a 100% walking tour.
  • ARE ANY TASTINGS INCLUDED ? No: This is not a cookie cutter tour . We want to provide the most unique tour for you – not a template that anyone can copy. Some people are adventurous eaters, while some other would rather stay in their safe comfort area; some love expensive wines, while other prefer beer. This tour should be a treat for you, so it doesn’t make sense that we make you eat a set tapas menu for a certain amount per person. It’s way more fun if you can chose every time what you want to eat and drink.
  • SHOULD I SKIP OTHER MEALS THAT DAY ? If you are having a lunch-time tour, get a light breakfast (or skip it if you are used to skipping breakfast) and don’t plan a big dinner for the evening. If you are having a dinner-time tour, have a light lunch (no need to skip it) and don’t eat anything else until the tour starts. You won’t need dinner reservations that night
  • WHAT AREA OF BARCELONA WE’LL BE SEEING ? This tapas walking tour takes places mostly in the Born District, and occasionally in the Gothic Quarter or La Mercè quarter. Lunchtime tours can include the fabulous tapas bars of the Boqueria Market (except Sunday and August). If you’d rather visit a different area, let us know. We might be able to customize a new itinerary for you!
  • HOW MUCH WALKING IS INVOLVED ? This varies depending on the bars your guide selects for you. In general, not much. The distance between bars is short: one or two blocks. The longest walk between too bars could be around 600m (around 2000ft) – but that’s be only once in the entire tour.
  • IS THERE A SIZE LIMIT FOR MY GROUP ? This is a 100% private tour, meaning you won’t be added to a group of strangers. This said, if your party is 6 or more it’d be difficult to find enough room at the bars for all of you at the same time. This is why we advise to book 2 guides (or as many as it is necessary depending on the size of your group). In such cases you might not be visiting the same bars at the same time (or not visit the same bars at all).

CAN THIS TAPAS TOUR CATER SPECIAL DIETS?

  • Vegetarian (ovo-lacto) are welcome . It’s not difficult to improvise some veggie tapas in Barcelona, but it’s best you let us know in advance.
  • Vegan are harder to cater . We definitely need to know in advance to plan accordingly.
  • Gluten-free can be accommodated if you can tolerate crossed-contamination and traces.
  • Celiac is VERY hard to accommodate as in most restaurants they aren’t trained to keep your food safe. We might have to limit the tapas stops to one single bar in the area we know to be safe.
  • Kosher food is hard to find in Barcelona: I’m afraid we can’t provide a tapas & wine tour that thoroughly respects kosher rules. We can, though, organize a no-pork no-seafood tapas tour if that’s OK with you. And we know a place were we can get Kosher wine from Spain, too.
  • Halal food is easier to find, but unfortunately it’s mostly Middle-Eastern cuisine. I’m afraid we can’t provide either a strictly halal tapas tour. We can, though, organize a no-pork no-seafood tapas tour if that’s OK with you.
  • Other food allergies and diets , please check with us before booking so we can assess your options and risks.

This tour is designed for adults interested in local food and, able to walk about 2 miles (3km), divided in 4 to 6 stops.

Be prepared to finish the tour late at night : starting earlier isn’t a good option as most tapas bars aren’t open yet and your options wouldn’t be as exciting.

If a late night tour isn’t an option for you , consider a lunchtime tour from noon to 4PM, or our  Sagrada Familia & Tapas tour , that finishes earlier.

If you have walking issues , we recommend to add a driver (the itinerary will have to be customized in order to make sense).

If you are on a wheelchair , most bars in Barcelona are accessible but some other might have one or two steps at the entrance or not have an adapted toilet. No driver will be needed.

If you are in Barcelona more than one day , you might want to consider a  day trip to the wine country .

The 7 Best Barcelona Tapas Tours [2024 Reviews]

Barcelona is a city filled with history, fascinating culture, beautiful views, and good food – more specifically, tapas. No trip to Barcelona is complete without trying their traditional tapas, which are essentially small dishes of food that are meant to be shared.

There’s really no limit to the type of food tapas can consist of, and I’ve seen them range from a bowl of almonds to a plate of grilled prawns.

As you can imagine, though, there are a ton of different tapas eateries in the city, so it can be challenging to find the best ones. I’ve decided to help out by curating the 7 top Barcelona tapas tours out there, offering insight into the traditions and cultures behind them. Let’s jump right in!

Barcelona Tapas Tour Reviews

1. barcelona tapas and wine experience small-group walking tour.

  • Duration:  3 hours
  • Departure: La Rambla, 97, 97, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
  • Departure Time: Either 11:00 AM or 6:00 PM
  • Includes:  Tapas and local product tasting, wine tasting, friendly local guide, stop at 4 restaurants, walking tour through old city

If it’s your first time in Barcelona, there’s no need to fret and wonder what you should do first as this tour is the one for you. It’s the perfect intro to all things Catalan, offering not only insight into proper tapas, but the city’s layout.

With the Barcelona Tapas and Wine Experience Small-Group Walking Tour , you’ll get a crash course into the local lifestyle, lead by a guide who is there to make sure you have a fantastic time.

I felt that the 3-hour length was the perfect amount of time, equating to more or less what it would be if you went out to lunch or dinner and took a walk around the city afterward.

While tapas are quite small, the amount that you’ll get to try does add up to a full meal. They offer two different start times, so you can select either the early afternoon or evening, making it even easier to fit into a busy itinerary.

Right from the very start of the tour, it was obvious that the guide put a lot of thought into carefully selecting the restaurants part of the experience.

Expand To See More See Less

Just about every one was family-owned, with a big focus on keeping things authentic – some of the eateries had actually been around for more than a century!

We started at Plaça Sant Jaume, where we strolled through the impressive Gothic Quarter with our guide as he taught us all about its Roman origins and more.

Of course, we enjoyed plenty of delicious tapas and traditional wines to wash them all down, along the way. Thanks to the small group size, it just felt like we were delving in with a group of friends, which made the tour that much more fun.

Afterward, I felt like I had a whole new appreciation for the local culture, the city itself, and definitely fell in love with tapas!

  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Departure: Rda. de Sant Antoni, 2, Ciutat Vella, 08001 Barcelona
  • Departure Time: Between 8 & 10 PM
  • Includes:  3 bites, 3 drinks (non-alcoholic available), Vegetarian alternatives, Private guide

Every time I go somewhere new, I really try and find the places that are truly local favorites as opposed to the “best-rated”. After all, I am traveling to a new place to really get to know how locals live and learn more about their culture and traditions.

I found the Barcelona with Locals: Wine and Tapas PRIVATE Tour (Bites & Drinks Included) to be one of the best options in this regard, with a guide who’s from Barcelona and knows some of those hot hidden gems!

Our tour kicked off in the center of the city, which was convenient to access and not too far from my hotel. Upon meeting our guide, I was glad to find just how welcoming and knowledgeable he was of the history and local life.

As it is a private tour, it was just a few of us so we were able to ask questions as we saw fit and got to have some control over the itinerary that day.

Our first stop of the day was at the Mercat de Sant Antoni which is known for its countless vendors that sell everything from fresh produce to clothes and home goods!

I learned that many locals will do their grocery shopping here, and many restaurant owners pick up all of their ingredients from the market as it’s just so fresh and high-quality.

After this, we made our way to “Tapas street”, which is aptly-named as it’s literally lined with tapas bars.

I absolutely loved the tapas and wine that we nibbled and sipped on while learning about the importance of wine and food in the Catalan region (spoiler alert: they’re  very  important!).

This tour included 3 bites and 3 drinks which is the fewest of any of these tours and focused a bit more on sightseeing and history, which I still quite enjoyed.

I felt it was a great balance between savoring the food and drink while getting a solid grasp of the local lifestyle and how tapas came to be a thing.

3. Barcelona: Tapas & Wine Early Evening Small Group Tour

  • Departure: Plaça de Sant Agustí Vell, 9, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona
  • Departure Time: 5:00 PM
  • Includes:  Local English-speaking food guide, Expertly guided food tour, 3 tasting stops, 5 different Catalan wines

Even though I’m able to speak and understand Spanish, I still felt it was hard to find a more diverse array of tapas in the places I’d gone on my own.

However, with the Barcelona: Tapas and Wine Early Evening Small Group Tour , I was able to try many different wines and tapas I’d never had before. I  almost  felt like a local wandering down the cool, bustling neighborhoods outside of the touristy areas!

There are many different start times available, though as it’s just 3 hours I felt it was easy to substitute dinner at a restaurant with this tour.

I met up with our guide and the rest of our group at El Born, which is notoriously medieval and is largely built on a Muslim burial site. It is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Barcelona, but is also lined with fantastic tapas bars.

I really enjoyed the Restaurant Santagustina, which is currently one of the most popular gourmet tapas bars and offers a nice variety of both traditional and more “modern” tapas.

I was really surprised at how affordable the glasses of wine were – even the highest-quality bottles! I highly recommend “Grandma’s Meatballs”, which are small but packed full of flavor and are nice and moist!

After that, we got to see Bastaix and learn about white wine and fortified wine’s resurgence before really diving deep into the history of tapas at Pla B. We had some more homemade wine here, expertly paired with savory Iberian pork or braised beef.

Our small group had a great time learning and seeing more of Barcelona, and we were able to chat and make friends, too!

4. Barcelona Tapas, Taverns and Gothic Quarter History Tour

  • Duration: 3.5 hours
  • Departure:  Pl. de Ramon Berenguer el Gran, Ciutat Vella, Barcelona, Spain
  • Departure Time: 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 PM
  • Includes:  Local English-speaking guide, Expertly guided walking tour, 3 tasting stops with 10+ tastes and 5 drinks

Barcelona has so many fascinating, beautiful places to experience that it can be hard to accomplish everything you want in just one trip.

The Barcelona Tapas, Taverns and Gothic Quarter History Tour lead my through the center of the city’s culinary and historical heritage with passionate guides and a small tour setting.

The seamless melding of gastronomy and history came to be through fascinating stories and anecdotes that brought the past to life!

Like most of the tours on this guide, this one also starts in central Barcelona, with an easy-to-access starting point. This guide started at 5:30 pm, so I’d recommend it as the perfect alternative to going to a nice dinner at a restaurant.

Oh, and while it’s not the main “selling point”, strolling around the cobblestone streets as the sun sets on the city is absolutely breathtaking and perfect for photos!

Our first stop had us trying plenty of local charcuterie like smoked salchichas and cured cheeses paired nicely with national sparkling and fortified wines.

After that, we walked some of it off by seeing Roman ruins in the Gothic Quarter, learning about Columbus and the ’92 Olympics along the way. We then arrived at our second and third stops consisting of lively tapas bars, where we tried some red wine, fried fish, olives, and much more.

I loved Bodega La Palma, which is more of a sit-down, “proper” dinner with nearly a century of history highlighting artists and bohemians.

The last stop was quite possibly my absolute favorite of any tapas tours, where we got to try the Spanish version of French toast topped with rich ice cream! Combine all that, with the fact that our guide was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I’ll definitely take this tour again.

5. Barcelona Electric Bike Small Group Tour with Tapas and Wine Tasting

  • Departure: Plaça de Sant Agustí Vell, 16, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona
  • Departure Time: 4:00 PM
  • Includes:  Small group tour, local professional guide, bottled water, glass of champagne, wine tasting, food tasting, fees and taxes

As you can probably tell, I’ve been on quite a few different types of Barcelona tapas tours. However, this tour stood out to me not only because of the content, but because of the convenient and thrill of riding electric bikes around the city’s bustling streets.

The Barcelona Electric Bike Small Group Tour with Tapas and Wine Tasting  maximizing the time spent, allowing us to cover more ground and perhaps even access some hidden corners of the city that walking tours don’t allow for.

Starting in central Barcelona, we met up with our guide and were given a briefing on how to use the bikes as well as go for a little practice run before we set off.

Our group was very small which was ideal for riding bikes, and I found everything to be quite easy. As they’re electric, you hardly have to pedal for it to propel forward, which honestly was probably even easier than walking around!

This tour focused much more on history, and we got to see where people used to joust during medieval times, a house cut in half, food markets, and much more.

We cruised around one of my favorite neighborhoods – El Born – where we saw the beautiful Centre Cultural, Parc de la Ciutadella, Parliament buildings, and much more. We then arrived at La Barceloneta, which kind of gives off a Miami vibe today but was once a quaint fishing village!

La Rambla was up next, where we enjoyed plenty of art and architecture before arriving at a tasty tapas bar for some cheese, bread, cured meats, and wine!

This is a great intro to tapas and Barcelona, in general, making it a fantastic tour for those visiting the city for the first time. Plenty of great company, great discoveries, and a nice selection of wines and little dishes!

6. Barcelona Flamenco Show & Tapas Tour with Drinks in the Born

  • Duration:  3 to 4 hours
  • Departure: C/ de Sant Pere Més Alt, 1, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona
  • Departure Time: 6:00 PM
  • Includes:  Bilingual Guide Tour, Tapas & Pintxo Tour (2 Bars), Drinks included in each bar, Walking Tour, Flamenco Show in a Medieval Palace

It’s not every day that one gets to experience the soul-stirring Flamenco in an intimate setting, nestled within the historic walls of a 17th-century palace. This immersive tour promises an unforgettable evening full of great music, dance, and culinary treats.

The Barcelona Flamenco Show & Tapas Tour with Drinks in the Born  is an enchanting experience that transports you to a bygone era of elegance and charm.

While I believe this tour is great for any adult traveler, I find this option to be best for a romantic night out with a significant other! It includes a delicious dinner anyway, complete with a show and a full-fledged history tour of the Gothic Quarter and El Born!

There were a lot of moving parts for this tour to work out well, and everything went off without a hitch!

We started off with a casual walking tour, learning about the Roman ruins, the Gothic architecture (which is even more impressive in person, by the way!), and much more.

I fell in love with the baroque 17th-century Dalmases Palace, which we were lucky enough to go inside to enjoy the Flamenco show!

The guitar player was absolutely phenomenal, and the dancers were mesmerizing to watch. As we watched and listened, we sipped on a couple of drinks and were able to relax in the comfy seats.

To wrap it all up, we enjoyed a delicious gourmet dinner at one of Barcelona’s best pintxos restaurants, including dishes like pan con tomate, tortillas, croquetas, calamares, and much more.

This tour was a nice balance of walking, sitting, sipping, and eating, for a well-rounded experience I’d recommend to anyone.

7. Gothic Quarter Evening Tapas Tour with The Barcelona Taste

  • Departure: Pl. de Ramon Berenguer el Gran, 2, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
  • Departure Time: 7:00 PM
  • Includes:  Local expert guide, dinner, alcoholic beverages, soda

One of the most captivating neighborhoods of Barcelona is the austere Gothic Quarter, so when I saw there was a tour that focused specifically on it, I didn’t hesitate.

The Gothic Quarter Evening Tapas Tour with The Barcelona Taste  led by expert guides is a later-night adventure that’ll take you through these important landmarks at a time that allows for less crowding.

If you’re interested in learning more about what local life and food looks like, place this one at the top of your list!

Just like most others on this guide, this tour clocks in at around 3 hours, which I find to be just the right amount of time for dinner and some sightseeing.

This small group setting caps out at a mere 6 participants, so you can count on a very intimate, personalized experience.

Our guide actually asked for any specific interests we may have, so they could go ahead and tailor our tour around them while making suggestions they believe we may like.

We began in the Plaza de Ramon Berenguer el Gran and through the famous Ciutat Vella, where we got to see ancient Roman walls, cathedrals, beautiful plazas, and many reputable tapas bars.

Every single restaurant we visited was new or me, and I loved how we were shown more hidden gems and charming places that only locals would frequent. Our guide was not only fun and friendly, but did a great job at offering us a deeper understanding of Barcelona’s rich culinary heritage.

We got 3 different restaurant choices to pick from, and the pre-selected tapas option was pretty tasty for me, as well.

Our entire group did share the plates (as tapas are intended to be, though to be honest, sharing plates with “strangers” wasn’t as weird as it may sound. From drinks and fun adventures to trying new things, this is a wonderful way to fill up on something other than a typical dinner.

Some of our recommended tapas tours in Barcelona

Barcelona is famous for its nightlife. Part of it includes tasty tapas. Many districts in the city have changed in recent years thanks to the development of tourism. Old bars and newcomers offer a colourful and rich variety of options where tapas can be enjoyed. But many remain potential tourist traps.  A tapas tour is  safe bet to ensure you taste the best of Barcelona with a local guide.

Barcelona has a rich culinary tradition and you will be able to enjoy some tapas that are not unique, but at least most typical from Barcelona. This is just a list of some of the most traditional tapas in Barcelona

Pan con tomate (Pa amb tomàquet)

No matter where you go in Barcelona, Pan con tomate will be present. This is a very simple yet delicious food. It consists of quality bread that has been toasted and then rubbed with ripe tomatoes and seasoned with olive oil. Pan con tomate is used as a base for many different tapas dishes and for food in general.

This is a type of sausage that is usually served grilled by itself as a tapas dish though you can also find it in many different stews

Catalans are so proud of these onions that many people wonder why they become so expensive. Calçots are only available a few weeks every year and when served with romesco sauce they are truly tasty

Escudella i Carn d’Olla

This is a traditional and famous winter stew. Sometimes it is served in Barcelona in small pots as a tapa.

Seafood stuffed peppers

Piquillo-style peppers are served with a tasty and creamy sauce and stuffed with seafood. One of our favorite tapas options in Barcelona. One of the stars in the tapas landscape in Barcelona is the so-called “bomba” Bombas are deep-fried potato balls stuffed with all sorts of different ingredients. You will find all sorts of different stuffing for the bombas and you should also pay attention to the spiciness of the sauces used.

Bravas or patatas bravas

Though a typical Spanish tapas in general, can be enjoyed nearly everywhere in Barcelona. Bars pride themselves on the quality of the spicy tomato sauce they use, many times referred to as “receta de la Abuela” (grandma´s recipe) or also the recipe of the bar. You should not leave Barcelona without trying them!

Local Food Market & Tapas Tour

A walking gastronomic tour through Barcelona’s Old Town

Our Tour Concept & Itinerary

The concept of this tour is to introduce our guests to authentic Barcelona cuisine, with its charismatic tapas bars, regional ‘surf and turf’ ingredients and delicious drinks.

STOP 1. We’ll start by exploring a local market , where (unlike at the Boqueria ) you’re likely to be the only tourist. Here we’ll taste delicacies, such as Spanish olives, and we’ll engage with the market traders and begin to understand the everyday rhythms of food and life in the Catalan capital. (Note: during weekends the market is closed and will be replaced by another restaurant stop). STOP 2. During our next stop we’ll visit a an authentic Catalan tapas bar where we’ll taste some of the iconic dishes of croquetas , pimientos padròn and pa amb tomàquet . The latter is a rustic favourite of locals, and we’ll learn how to make our own with tomatoes, olive oil, salt and garlic. We’ll also try a local wine from the Penedes, and if you’re feeling brave you’ll also have the chance to drink some wine from the legendary Spanish drinking vessel, the porron ….

STOP 3. Next we’ll visit a Basque bodega (bodega = wine bar) where we’ll enjoy a vermouth or possibly txakolin , a traditional wine from the north of Spain. To eat we’ll order the likes of mushrooms with white wine, Spanish omelette and Iberian ham, and we’ll see how the ham is cut in the traditional way with a cuchillo jamonero .

All along the way you’ll hear the stories behind the dishes you taste, the venues you visit and the city we love, so that by the end you’ll be left with not only a delighted palate and full belly, but also a fantastic insight into life in Barcelona.

Why Book With Us?

  • All inclusive price. Your 69 euros covers all food and drink in the tour description, expert guide, plus all taxes, booking fees etc.
  • We are local. Our small team has been living in Barcelona for over 25 years in total. We support local farmers, market traders, bodegas / restaurants, and stores, and everything you taste on the tour has been grown and/or produced in Barcelona, Catalonia or Spain. Our company is registered and pays taxes here in Spain.
  • Small group. We prefer exploring in a small group, for a more intimate and authentic experience.
  • Sustainability. Because we taste only regional and Spanish products our tour has a low carbon footprint. Furthermore our tour takes place in less touristic markets, restaurants and back streets (in one of the most beautiful districts in Barcelona): and, by avoiding areas like La Boqueria and Las Ramblas, you are part of a more sustainable way of travelling, rather than contributing to the problems of mass tourism and overcongestion.
  • New kids on the block. We are the latest food tour to launch in Barcelona… and for that reason we have gone out of way to design what we believe is the very best food experience in the city! Otherwise what would be the point 😉

Is a Tapas Tour in Barcelona Worth It?

In my completely biased opinion, a tapas tour in Barcelona is 100% worth it. First, Barcelona has some of the best tapas in the world! A tour allows you to sample a wide range of specialties all in one go, without having to research each place. You get instant access to all the local favorites that the majority of tourists miss, and it could be for a price as low as $43! Second, going with a tour group means that you get access to an expert guide who knows the history and culture behind Spanish cooking . This not only makes for a much more memorable experience but also allows you to pick up some useful tips on hidden gems to visit during the rest of your stay in the city. In addition, these tours are designed to be social — so they’re an awesome way to meet locals and other travelers alike. You’ll be able to chat with your tour guide, ask questions, and make some new friends in the process! Finally, at the end of the day, we all have to eat at some point and there’s nothing quite like going on an immersive food tour to delight your taste buds. Thus, you might as well eat like a king and queen because it’s not every day you’re discovering a new city and culture!

Tips for Planning Your Food Tour in Barcelona

  • ✅  Book ahead of time:  Due to the popularity of food tours, try to book your experience ahead of time. That way you avoid missing out on your preferred time slots or experiences that fill up quickly.
  • 📆  Schedule tours early:  I recommend scheduling your food tour as early in your trip as possible! This way you can get an overview of the city and can ask your guide for insider details on places to visit during the rest of your stay! Plus, it’s always fun to start on a high note!
  • 🍴  Have dietary restrictions? : Be sure to tell the food tour guide in advance of any dietary restrictions and allergies you have. They can normally make accommodations as long as you let them know ahead of time.
  • 🍷 Don’t drink on an empty stomach: As I mentioned earlier, for more wine-focused tours like the Cocktail class or day tours, be sure to eat something ahead of time! Excessive amounts of alcohol on an empty stomach is not fun… *from my personal experience 🫠*
  • 🌞  Check the weather:   Check the weather before you leave and plan accordingly.
  • 🚗  Check departure points and times:   Make sure to double-check the meeting point for your tour and take into account the time it’ll take you to get there from your housing accommodations. Only a couple of the tours include direct pick-up from your hotel.
  • 📸  Bring your Camera:  Capture the experience & take plenty of pictures so you can share your story with friends & family back home!
  • 🤠  Enjoy the experience:  Above all else, make sure to relax, have fun & immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Barcelona! Bon Appetit! 🍽️😊

Barcelona Tapas Tours: FAQ

There are literally hundreds of varieties of tapas available to try in Barcelona. But, some of the crowd-favorites include Jamón Iberico de Bellota, Bombas, Patatas Bravas, and Pintxos.

The average tapas in Barcelona costs €3 – €5 if you’re eating at your typical local shop. However, gourmet tapas can cost as much as €12 – €15!

With Barcelona’s size, there are so many things to do in the city. I recommend spending at least 4 days, ideally 5 or more in the city if you can. It’s definitely not one of those cities you want to only spend a day or two in!

Similar to tipping in France or anywhere else in Europe, you are not required to tip in Barcelona. Service fees are already included in the price of the item. That said, if you think you have phenomenal service or would like to tip your tour guide, it’s always welcome.

Some of my other favorite things to do in Barcelona included visiting the iconic Sagrada Familia , enjoying the view from Park Guell , and appreciating the works in the Picasso Museum! And for anyone trying to cross some countries off their list, you can even day trip to Andorra !

The 10 specific tours I have mentioned above range from $55 USD (the Cocktail class) to almost $500 USD for the full-day tours into the countryside! But, the average tapas and wine tour in Barcelona lasts for about 3 hours and costs about $80 – $120 USD.
