What do our customers say?

The reviews speak for themselves. See what Nordic Visitor travellers said about their experience with us.

Relaxing and fun journey

The Scandanavian winter tour package and it's connections made it very easy to see the 4 capital cities and Bergen. There were plenty of suggestions for things to see and do. There was a great mix of cruise and rail segments between cities giving us a chance to see other parts of each country. Staff reserved an extra rail and overnight for us as soon as we asked about it. All in all a very relaxing and fun journey.

Just what we wanted

The plan was just what we wanted and the actual trip delivered just that. Nice balance of scheduled events and free time in the cities visited. Hotel locations were excellent and our tour guide was always available and helpful for additional questions and suggestions.

First class

Communication was first class. Selection of accommodation was perfect. Great hotels in good locations.

Very easy process

We found the whole process very easy. The instructions and information provided was clear and made it easy to find hotels and transport links. The hotels were centrally located, close to transport links but were not noisy. Our personal travel consultant was very helpful and friendly. We liked the recommendations suggested in the daily itinerary.

Thoroughly recommend Nordic Visitor

We would recommend Nordic Visitor to anyone considering an introductory tour of Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo. Basics of logistics where well-stated. It was easy to commute from one capital to the next. Itineraries were clear yet flexible. We thought moving from one country to the next would be a challenge - it was not. Nordic Visitor arranged all that was needed, yet gave us the flexibility to do more or otherwise should we want. Again, we thoroughly recommend Nordic Visitor. We look forward to our next excursion in Scandinavia through Nordic Visitor.

Fantastic tour that included the highlights for each country we visited. I really feel like we have seen the best of the countries with the time we had. The activities were terrific. I felt supported by my tour planner, Irja, as we travelled.

Excellent vacation

We had an excellent vacation through Nordic Visitor. The expertise of our tour guide and small group size of 16 enhanced our experience. We had a good blend of free time and tour related programs. We did arrive 2 days early to Stockholm and stayed an additional 2 days in Bergen. We found this time beneficial to explore the areas more.

A pleasure to work with

Working with Nordic Visitor, and specifcally Irja, was a pleasure. She did an excellent job presenting the information. It was nice to see her enthusiasm as she discussed activites the staff liked in each city. She responded to our questions promptly and in detail. The paperwork, itinerary, written day-by-day descriptions, vouchers, and tour info was all very well-thought-out and presented.

I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor!

I was so happy during this entire trip. I wanted to travel to Norway before but I didn't understand how Norway in a Nutshell worked so the itinerary prepared by Irja was just perfect. She was always available to answer all my questions and the hotels and activities planned were perfect and easy for me as a solo traveller. I just had to enjoy each city. I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor!

Very well planned

The tour was great and very well planned. We had enough time to explore the cities and the Swedish countryside. It was fun to drive and take the ferries as well.

The best vacation we've ever had!

This was the best vacation we've ever had and I'm planning a Norway trip for August 2024 as we speak. Thanks for a phenomenal time!

An amazing trip

We had an amazing trip in Swedish Lapland and the Scandinavian cities. Nordic Visitor's assistance helped us to have scheduled activities, but also free time to pick and choose what we wanted to do. It was a great balance of planning, with the inclusion of spontaneity!

Guided Small Groups

Independent cruise, independent train, scandinavian triangle, ideas for scandinavia tour packages from mumbai.

Visiting the Scandinavian countries is an enriching experience, with such fascinating cultures and jaw-dropping landscapes for you to discover. There are many reasons why Scandinavia is such a great travel destination for visitors from India.

Firstly, if you are an English speaker, it’s good to know that most locals are fluent in the language. So whether you want to strike up a conversation or need help with directions, you won’t need to worry about any language barrier.

Another convenient thing about Scandinavia tours is that getting around is easy. This is thanks to the excellent transport connections and short distances between cities. That’s why we highly recommend the Scandinavian Triangle route – the capitals of Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

You can visit Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen in one incredible trip, travelling via train, plane and ferry. Or you might want to take a road trip instead. Spend your days enjoying walking tours, admiring royal palaces, savouring delicious Scandinavian meals, or cycling along pedestrianised streets and bike lanes.

What’s more, Sweden, Norway and Denmark are some of the safest countries in the world. You can expect clean cities, high standards of road safety, and low crime rates too.

But aside from these practical advantages, Scandinavian tours are a dream because these European cities and rural settings are simply beautiful. Travel here and you’ll discover a land brimming with exquisite scenery, culture and traditions

The best time to visit Scandinavia depends on what you want to do. Come in the summer to enjoy the midnight sun, a range of outdoor activities and al fresco dining. In the winter, expect a festive wonderland and smaller crowds at top attractions. You may even get a chance to spot the northern lights!

As a Northern European tour specialist, Nordic Visitor organises vacation packages to this beautiful corner of the world. We have many more ideas and travel tips to help you explore Scandinavia your way!

  • First time in the Nordics? See our 7 amazing Scandinavia tours for first-time visitors

Here’s one of our suggestions for a Scandinavia travel itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrive in Stockholm, Sweden Fly into Stockholm Arlanda Airport and head to your hotel in the city centre. Spend some time walking through Gamla Stan (the Old Town). Enjoy a fika (a Swedish coffee break) with a nice pastry at one of the local cafés in this medieval neighbourhood.

Day 2 - The highlights of Stockholm Spend a full day in the Swedish capital, discovering the city’s attractions and districts. You could join a sightseeing tour to see the best of Stockholm in a day, taking you to must-see spots like the City Hall, Royal Palace and trendy Södermalm quarter.

Or, a ferry ride will whisk you off to the island of Djurgården, home to the Vasa Museum and Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum. Meanwhile, a day trip to the Stockholm Archipelago means you could swim in the Baltic Sea and hike through forests.

Day 3 - Fly to Copenhagen, Denmark Head to Stockholm Airport after breakfast and board a plane to Copenhagen. Once in Denmark’s capital, take a walk down the city’s popular Strøget street for a bite to eat, or go check out the fun and games at the old fashioned Tivoli Gardens amusement park.

Day 4 - Discover Copenhagen Soak up the charms of Copenhagen today, either on your own or as part of a guided tour. You might want to visit Rosenborg Castle, the Botanical Garden and Torvehallerne food market.

We also recommend hopping on a boat tour to see Christiansborg Palace, the Royal Danish Opera House and the colourful Christianshavn Canal from the water.

Day 5 - Overnight cruise to Oslo, Norway Ahead of tonight's journey to Oslo, spend the day enjoying more of Copenhagen. Why not make like the bicycle-happy Danes and rent a bike?

You could check out the exquisite Amalienborg Palace, as well as the colourful Nyhavn harbour and the Little Mermaid statue. Later, head to the port for your overnight cruise to Oslo.

Day 6 - Explore Norway’s capital city After your ship arrives early in the morning, the whole day is yours to roam Oslo. Take a walk to the bustling Aker Brygge waterfront area and visit the Akershus Fortress. Or, head to the Bygdøy peninsula to explore historic museums.

If you love art, make sure to take a walk through the delightful Vigeland Sculpture Park. Don’t miss a visit to Oslo City Hall if you want to see where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held.

Day 7 - Scenic train journey to Flåm This morning, go to Oslo Central Station to begin your Norway in a Nutshell® experience – one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. Look out the window to see picturesque landscapes and quaint villages like Gol and Geilo.

Change at Myrdal to board the Flåm Railway for one of the top highlights of the entire trip: a 900-metre (half-mile) descent to the picturesque village of Flåm, where you’ll stay for the night.

Day 8 - Norwegian fjord cruise Prepare to witness breathtaking Norwegian scenery today, as you hop on a cruise that takes you through the fjords. You’ll be able to admire the glittering waters, cascading falls and forested mountains of Sognefjord, passing through Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord. Afterwards, it’s an exciting coach and train ride to Bergen.

Day 9 - Discover Bergen Known as the gateway to the fjords , Bergen is Norway’s charming second city with plenty of its own attractions to uncover. You can visit the medieval houses of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bryggen, and take the funicular up Mount Fløyen for panoramic views over the city and fjords.

There are also plenty of museums, shops and restaurants to check out on your last full day in Scandinavia

Day 10 - Depart from Bergen, Norway Fly back home from Bergen-Flesland Airport, having enjoyed 10 days in beautiful Scandinavia.

What other ideas are there for Scandinavia travel packages from Mumbai?

There are so many more places to see in this part of Northern Europe. For example, you could delve deeper into the Nordic region, which is made up of Finland , Iceland , Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

After starting your trip in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, you could choose to take a short ferry ride to Tallinn, Estonia’s capital. Then step aboard a cruise that whisks you to Stockholm. You’ll cross the Baltic Sea overnight to begin your exploration of the Scandinavian countries the following day.

Another alternative is to head deeper into rural Scandinavia. Discover the natural beauty of the fjords of Norway, its national parks and high mountains. You could journey even further up the west coast towards the Lofoten Islands on a Havila or Hurtigruten cruise , for an exciting trip towards the Arctic Circle.

Like the sound of an odyssey to the far north of Europe? Then we recommend visiting Lapland – a remote region covering parts of Sweden, Finland and Norway. Come in winter for the chance to see the aurora borealis, soak up snowy landscapes, stay in a real ice hotel and meet Santa Claus.

Or hop on a plane and visit Iceland as part of your Nordic experience!

Good to know : Most of our Scandinavia holiday packages aren't set in stone, and there are many possibilities to tailor your plans.

We can modify your tour if you'd prefer to arrive in a different city, spend more free time in one destination than another, or add other towns to your trip. Just ask your Nordic Visitor travel agent for advice.

Interested in a Scandinavia group tour?

To see the region from a local’s point of view and make some new friends along the way, a guided small group tour of the Scandinavian capitals is a great option! These guided tours run from May to August, so you can enjoy summer travel in Scandinavia

A small group tour offers an enriching experience, allowing you to get the most out of your trip thanks to the expertise of a local guide. What’s more, you’ll be travelling alongside 16 people at most, so the trip is still personal for you.

Prefer a self-guided tour of Scandinavia?

If you would like to discover Scandinavia on your own but prefer not to drive, then an independent tour is the perfect choice. Public transportation in Scandinavia is fast, reliable and punctual, so getting around by train and ferry is a great alternative to driving.

By opting for a train and cruise tour of Scandinavia, you’ll benefit from having your itinerary arrangements made for you but with the freedom to spend your days however you please. Nordic Visitor will book all your accommodation and travel tickets between destinations, and you can add on activities too.

Plus, by booking an independent tour of Scandinavia you’ll still be able to enjoy the usual Nordic Visitor benefits. All our travel packages include access to our 24/7 helpline, a detailed personal itinerary, helpful travel guide and daily breakfast.

  • Travelling on your own? Find out why Scandinavia is perfect for solo travellers

How about a Scandinavia road trip?

You could explore Scandinavia on a self-drive tour , giving you the freedom to stop at lookout points and bucket list attractions whenever you want. Get ready for a real adventure, with incredible scenery outside your window to make the journey as unforgettable as the destinations you visit.

The best part? You won’t have to worry about where you’re going or sleeping, because your Nordic Visitor travel consultant has already sorted those local arrangements for you. You’ll also have access to our 24/7 emergency helpline should you need to call us at any point.

You could opt for a circular route between Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo, flying in and out of the Swedish capital, for example. This way, you could soak up the verdant countryside, rural villages, and grand castles and manor houses in this corner of Scandinavia.

All of Nordic Visitor’s Scandinavia self-drive tour packages can be tailored by our local experts with extra nights at select locations or modified driving routes. If you have any particular attractions in mind, just contact us to ask.

Historically speaking, Swedes have been influential in forming cultural importance since the pre-historic era. Be it the Norsemen era or the Byzantine Empire, Sweden has had an integral part in developing authentic traditions in the whole of Northern Europe. Etiquette and formal behaviour are widely practised in modern Swedish cities, due to which public grievances or expression of anger isn’t a common sight in this humble nation. Celebrating art and sciences is taken very seriously in Sweden, which also hosts the Nobel Prize Ceremony every year in its capital city, Stockholm, for awarding exemplary contributions in several fields of study. Best Time To Visit Sweden

Sweden owes the credit for its gorgeous coastline to the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. Moreover, this North European nation forms the eastern side of the Scandinavian peninsula with fifteen per cent of its land lying in the Arctic Circle. Countries that share a maritime border with Sweden are Lithuania, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Latvia, and Estonia. However, its border with Norway is renowned for being the longest as well as the only undisturbed borderline between two countries in the whole world. Its climate is the most attractive characteristic for tourists planning out their Sweden tour packages as different regions with varying weather conditions can be a thrilling experience. For those visiting the northern parts of Sweden in their tour, the climate is known to be influenced by the Arctic, with winters prevailing for more than six months. While, in the southern part, winters merely last for two months and summers dominate the climate for four months. The Midnight Sun, Sweden’s very own natural phenomena, when the sun doesn’t set for consecutive days can be experienced during the month of June. For Polar Nights, the winter months of December and January are ideal for touring in Sweden to witness uninterrupted nights without a ray of sunshine. Additionally, the annual rainfall of the country doesn’t exceed 24 inches during summer months in southern Swedish districts. Preparing for these extremities prevalent in one country should, thus, be planned out by tourists taking cost-effective tour packages from India to Sweden by researching online weather-based websites and travel blogs.

Raggmunk is a traditional dish. One of the most popular dishes among Swedes, it has fried potato pancakes with bacon and lingonberries.

Black Pudding (Blood Pudding)

This dish's Swedish name translates to "Blood Pudding." People in Sweden use pork blood to make it. In addition to that, it also contains milk, beer, rye flour, lard, syrup, raisins, or apple pieces. For centuries, the dish has been served in schools and restaurants. While many visitors are hesitant to eat it because of its name, you should try it if you are a meat lover. Clove, pepper, and marjoram give it a sweet and spicy flavour. Locals usually enjoy it during the holidays . Bacon, lingonberry jam or syrup, and a glass of milk are served on the side.

Things to Do on Your Sweden Trip

Visit the ice hotel.

Ice Hotel is one of Lapland's most well-known and popular tourist attractions, usually included in the Sweden tour packages .It is open 365 days a year. You can explore all of the rooms, each of which has been artistically carved uniquely. The hotel will provide you with warm sleeping bags. If you go on a Sweden tour during the coldest months of the year, this place could make exciting memories for you.

Look at the Biggest Mitten in the World

Passing through Lapland duringthe Sweden tour , you should stop by and take a look at this. The world's biggest mitten, completed in the year 2000 by 14 local townswomen, can be found in the small town of Lovikka. It stands nearly 12 feet tall in a large glass container in the middle of town. The town has reportedly always been known for knitting, having supplied gloves all over Lapland for generations. Indulge in shopping if you wish to.

Witness the Northern Lights

One of the most compelling reasons to travel to Sweden and take the Sweden tour packages is to see the Northern Lights. You can view the Northern Lights once you cross into the Arctic Circle. All you need is a day with a good KP Index, a measure of geomagnetic activity. A higher KP index would mean that there is a high chance of viewing the Northern Lights while you are in Sweden after you book an international tour package for the country.

Behold the Lakes of Sweden

Sweden is home to a wide range of large lakes. The three largest lakes are located in the south of Sweden. Lake Vattern, Lake Vanern, and Lake Malaren are all located close to each other. And there are castles too on these water bodies. While Lacko Castle is on Lake Vattern, Vadstena Castle is on Lake Vanern. Lake Vattern is so large that it will make you feel like you've booked tour packages for a sea beach. The water stretches out as far as the eye can see.

Souvenirs to Lookout For

Quality Swedish chocolates, meat and fish delicacies, and souvenirs featuring famous fairy-tale heroes and Vikings are frequently bought as souvenirs during Sweden tours . Sets of cosmetics, shoes, and crystal products are also great options if you prefer shopping. Consider purchasing the Swedish crystal when planning your shopping trip as part of your Sweden tour packages. The crystal is of exceptional quality. They are in high demand in Europe and the United States. Drottninggatan, Stockholm's main street connecting the Old Town and the new districts, is the central hub for souvenir shopping. Purchasing gifts from smaller towns and shops, on the other hand, is far more cost-effective when on a Sweden holiday .

Sweden Tourism

Minimalism, storybook cities and ice hotels .

Home to reindeer, the Northern Lights, frozen lands, ice hotels and Vikings, Sweden is a wonderful country to visit for travellers looking for a unique cultural experience. Calling its vast landscapes picturesque is an understatement, as the country offers views so stunning that you’ll find yourself wondering whether you’re in a Wes Anderson film! With pristine forests and crystal clear lakes, local beer and delectable meals, you’ll find staying in Sweden is an experience unmatched by anything you’ve seen before.

Highlights of Sweden:

Cities of sweden:.

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is actually an archipelago made of 14 gorgeous islands. The sheer novelty of the same is more than enough reason to travel to this city. Surrounded by the sea, this magical city has cobbled streets, vibrant cafes, and great museums for you to visit. It’s also an incredibly trendy city with tons of stores offering classic Swedish minimalist fashion, as well as a score of nightclubs to visit for an unforgettable evening. From an entire museum dedicated to the band ABBA, to Millesgarden and Ostermalm Saluhall (a marketplace that offers impeccable street food), there’s a lot for you to explore here.

If you’re want to travel to a city with a more laid back ambience, then Gothenburg must feature on your list. With its endless canals crisscrossing the streets, the vibrant cultural scene inspires a multitude of events and festivals. With some great marketplaces and a seafood-based cuisine, Gothenburg is a haven for travellers to immerse themselves in  Sweden's culture and lifestyle.

Karlskrona is Sweden’s military base, which is why you’ll see a lot of naval architecture all over the city. Most of these buildings date back to the 16th and 17th century and travellers must take part in an official tour to visit them, as they are still in use by the military and access to these buildings is generally restricted. Karlskrona is the third largest city in Sweden, filled with old churches, contemporary shopping malls, bars, and restaurants. If you visit this city during the summer season, make sure to head to its secluded swimming spots and enjoy floating in the sparkling waters.

Travel back in time by visiting Visby, a beautiful medieval city without a single brick of contemporary architecture. You’ll see storybook cottages, cobbled streets, gothic churches, and ruins here, and you simply must visit the Saint Maria Cathedral while exploring this wonderful place!

Finally, if you’re looking for hidden gems, you must make your way to Uema, which is a relatively unknown city in Sweden, in spite of the fact that it was named the European Capital of Culture in 2014. Don't forget to visit its magnificent art galleries, museums dedicated to the Sami people, and the vintage guitar museum when you’re here. This city offers great views of the Northern Lights too, as its located only 400 kms below the Arctic Circle. Spend your time exploring its bustling markets, restaurants and cafes before taking a break in any of its beautiful parks.

Popular tourist spots:

The Vasa Museum sees over 1 million tourists every year and is one of the most popular tourist spots in Sweden. It is dedicated to the battleship Vasa, the pride of the entire fleet, which sank on its maiden voyage. The magnificent ship bid its time in icy waters until it was salvaged in 1961. With more than 10 different exhibitions at this museum, you’ll end up spending the whole day immersing yourself in the beauty of this ship and what it meant to Sweden in 1628.

While you’re immersing yourself in history, do visit Skansen, an open air museum that’s the world’s oldest of its kind. The entire museum is essentially a village, with homes and farmsteads that represent life in the country from various periods ranging from 1720 to 1960s. You’ll get to see old schools, churches, bookstores, artisan’s shops, bakeries, Sami camps and much more, and the experience will certainly feel like something out of Westworld.

Located on the island of Lovo, Drottningholm Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that only 11 kilometers away from the main city of Stockholm. Built in the 17th century, the palace is still operation and currently houses the Swedish Royal Family. The palace also hosts a range of historical artefacts such as a Chinese Pavilion dating back to the 1700s, bronze sculpture and war trophies scattered across its terraced lawn, and the Palace Theatre that dates back to the 18th century. Like the palace itself, the theatre is also fully operational with spectacular shows held here during the summer months.

Head to Kiruna to stay at the fantastic Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi. The hotel is rebuilt every year with ice taken from the river Torne. Apart from the unique experience of staying in a hotel made entirely of ice and snow, travellers also visit this city to witness the midnight sun, which makes an appearance from mid-May to mid-July. If you do visit this place in the summer months, make sure you participate in a few fun activities such as rafting, canoeing, stand up paddle boating, and fishing.

Finally, for a thrilling experience, visit the Liseberg theme park and take your pick of its exciting rides like roller coasters, bumper cars, carousels, and much more.

Adventure sports:

During the summer months, you’ll find ample opportunity to indulge in kayaking and canoeing in Gothenburg and Stockholm. However, if you’re expecting a tranquil experience, think again because most rivers in Sweden offer thrilling rapids that will surely get your adrenaline pumping. The Torne, Lule, Kalix and Ume rivers are fantastic ones for the same.

You can also go hiking in the Swedish Lapland for an experience that brings you closer to nature. With over 400 hiking trails spread throughout the area, travelers will varying skill levels are bound to find trails that suit them perfectly. Try your hand at the King’s trail, the most popular hiking trail in the country, along with others like Kebenkaise, Vasaloppet, and Siljansleden.

During the winter months, you can indulge in a range of winter sports like skiing, dog sledding, ice-skating, and snow-mobiling. If you’re a sports buff, you must head down to Are, Central Europe’s largest sports resort, with a variety of trails for newbies and pros.

Cuisine of Sweden:

Of the many dishes available in Swedish cuisine, the smorgasbord is perhaps the most widely known. A buffet of meatballs, sausages, salmon, and other meaty delights, this is something you’ll encounter in every city – and definitely something worth trying more than once! Salad lovers should order a Gubbröra, which is an anchovy and egg salad typically served on thin dark rye bread.

Jansson’s frestelse, also known as Jansson’s Temptation, is a very popular dish made of anchovies, potatoes and cream, and typically eaten around Christmas (though you’ll find it available year-round). Gravlax, which is dill cured salmon, is another immensely popular dish that’s often been described as a foodie's delight. Though the dish owes its origins to France, the Swedish variant comes with mustard, and condiment rarely used in French cuisine. You can order this dish separately, or ask for a smorgasbord that includes thin slices of Gravlax.

If you love all things sweet, order a princess cake or saffron and cinnamon buns for a delightful bite to eat along with your coffee. You should also experiment with the local Swedish beer and try as many variants of coffee as you possibly can!

Interesting facts about Sweden:

  • Swedish culture is quite subtle and you’re likely to alienate yourself if you use loud body language, descriptive gestures, or even speak too loudly!
  • Sweden’s enchanting forests make for 2/3rds of the country’s land and that’s not all – these forests are home to over 300,000 – 400,000 moose that roam freely!
  • The country’s biggest export is music, with popular bands and musicians like ABBA, Roxette, Zara Larson, Avicii, Ace of Base, Alcazar, Swedish House Mafia, and many others hailing from this beautiful country.
  • Sweden excels so highly at recycling that it even imports waste from other countries to do its bit for the planet.

Location of Sweden:

Sweden is located in Northern Europe and shares its borders with Norway, Finland and Denmark.

Best time to visit:

The peak season for traveling to Sweden is in the summer months, from May to early September. With long days filled with sunshine, beautiful weather and interesting activities like kayaking, canoeing and hiking on the cards, most travellers enjoy being in this country during this time. Having said that though, the shoulder season is also a great time to visit if you want to avoid running into too many tourists. However, planning your itinerary during the months of October, September, May and April can be quite challenging as snowfall can be unpredictable. So, if you’re planning to travel here during this season, do keep a flexible schedule.

Finally, the winter season from November to March is a great time to visit the country as it’s a haven for winter sports like sledding, skiing, and snowmobiling. Though there’s very little daylight and extremely cold climates, travellers love visiting during these months as they can spot the wonderful Northern Lights.

How to get to Sweden:

By Air: Stockholm Arlanda and Goteborg Landvetter host international airlines from all over the world, and are the best options to get to the country by air. Though Sweden has a few other airports, they are mainly for domestic travel only.

By Train: You can enter the country by taking trains from Denmark, Germany, Finland and Norway. As Sweden is a part of the Schengen Agreement, travellers with a Schengen Visa shouldn’t face any issues crossing the borders.

By Boat: With many Swedish cities being archipelagos, travelling by boat is a norm here. You can hop on cruises and ferries from Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Belgium, Russia, Lithuania, Norway, Germany, Poland, and even the UK.

History of Sweden:

Sweden saw a late foray into the industrial revolution, Swedish farming culture has held an important role in determining the politics of the country. As a result, you see a lot of preservation of natural resources. The country remained neutral during both the World Wars, and is still non-aligned from a military point of view.

Next time I go to Scandinavia, I'll definitely keep Nordic Visitor in mind. They booked us great hotels that were centrally located and made it easy for us to tour every location at our own pace. The timing of travel was well considered so we could grab breakfast before our train to the next location, our accommodation were lovely, and communication leading up to our trip was smooth, even given the time difference. Highly recommend.

We recently undertook a self-drive tour in Sweden and were thoroughly impressed. The itinerary was thoughtfully crafted, providing interesting stops and sights each day just when we were ready for a break. 3. Is Sweden part of Europe?

4. What is the currency of Sweden?

The Swedish krona (SEK) is the official currency of Sweden – keep this in mind if you plan on exchanging money as Sweden does not use the Euro.

5. What language is spoken in Sweden?

The official language of Sweden is Swedish, with English widely spoken. However in Swedish Lapland and the northerly regions, the locals may also converse in Finnish or Sami.

6. What is the warmest month in Sweden?

The warmest month on average is July. Swedish summers are typically pleasant, and temperatures can get as high as 30°C (86°F) between June and August.

7. What is the best month to go to Sweden?

For mild weather and sunshine, we recommend visiting Sweden from May to September. Not only will you experience Sweden’s charming towns and natural attractions in pleasant conditions, but you’ll also have longer summer days to enjoy them. Regions close to the Arctic Circle experience the ‘midnight sun’ during the summer months – a phenomenon where daylight lasts well into the evening.

If you enjoy wintry activities, a cooler climate and landscapes blanketed in snow, then a visit between October and January is perfect for you. The winter is prime northern lights viewing season and Swedish Lapland is the ideal region to chase them down.

8. Where can we see northern lights in Sweden?

The further north you are of the Arctic Circle, the better your chances of seeing the northern lights, so we suggest visiting the province of Lapland . Here’s our list of aurora viewing areas:

  • Kiruna, Sweden’s most northerly town
  • Abisko, a charming mountain resort village in an “aurora zone”
  • The Aurora Sky Station, a northern lights observatory based outside of Abisko

Swedish Lapland is a beautiful place to go on a ‘northern lights safari’, so why not learn more about the area, and what to expect there, in our northern lights Lapland guide .

9. When is the best time to see the northern lights in Sweden?

The best time to see the northern lights in Sweden is during winter, specifically from October to March, with peak visibility between December and February. Evenings are the best time to go searching for the lights and ideal viewing conditions are remote areas away from light pollution, with clear skies.

10. What is a self-guided tour?

A self-guided tour is a package where all of the bookings and activities are organised for you by your dedicated travel consultant. On these tours, you travel without a guide and navigate the journey yourself.

11. Which is best to tour Sweden – by rail, cruise or self-drive?

The best way to tour Sweden depends on the form of transport you most enjoy and how you prefer to experience attractions.

Sweden’s train system is prompt and comfortable, and when travelling through the countryside, the views from either side of the carriage are exceptional. Rail travel is popular among locals and for good reason – you get to enjoy a traffic-free journey with good amenities and opportunities to stretch your legs.

If you’re the seafaring type, then try a Scandinavian cruise that starts or ends in Sweden. You get to enjoy sweeping views of the coast and experience overnight stays in cosy cabins. By choosing to cruise, you’ll get to visit other famous Nordic cities like Copenhagen and Oslo. You’re also in visiting distance of cities like Tallinn and Helsinki. Find more cruises on our Scandinavian packages .

Self-drive tours are another appealing option as you get to set the pace of your journey and enjoy the flexibility of driving to each attraction. Sweden has some of the safest and most well-maintained roads in the world. A smooth and picturesque drive, another benefit of taking the wheel is that you receive a hand-drawn map of your route and a detailed reference guide with area information and nearby sight-seeing.

12. Can I choose the arrival date?

Yes, you can choose the best arrival date to suit you depending on package and season. All our vacation packages can be purchased online, and once you’ve decided on the best journey for you, you can choose your ideal dates. If you’ve already booked, but your travel plans have changed, then get in touch with your travel consultant as soon as possible so they can rearrange your trip.

13. When should I book my flight tickets?

We advise that you book your package first to secure your tour. It may be worth checking potential flight times and prices first, but be aware some airlines and flight booking websites raise their prices between visits, so remember to do research using “Private” or “Incognito” mode. Once your tour is confirmed by email, go ahead and purchase your flights. If you have missed out on flights, please get in touch with us to change the dates of your tour.

14. What should I pack for my trip?

We advise all our guests to dress sensibly and pack warm layers, as well as wear comfortable shoes when visiting Sweden. Northerly regions like Lapland can reach temperatures as low as -50°C (-58°F), so it’s best to wrap up! Scandinavian weather can change quickly and it’s better to plan for the unexpected than to be underprepared. We recommend that you bring:

  • Jumper or fleece
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Umbrella or poncho
  • Sleep mask (summer)
  • Foot warmers (winter)
  • Thermos (winter)
  • Binoculars (for cruise-goers)
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses (summer)

Step-1 determine if you need a visa.

Before you begin  organising your journey to Sweden, you should find out if you  need a visa to enter the  nation. You do not  need a visa to visit Sweden if you are a  citizen of a nation in the European Union (EU), the European  Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland. However, if  you are a  non-EU/EEA resident, you will need to acquire a tourist  passport before  entering Sweden. Before  making any travel plans, make sure to verify the visa regulations for your particular  nation.

Step-2 Gather the necessary documents

Once you’ve  established that you’ll need a  tourist visa to enter Sweden, you’ll need to  collect all of the required  documentation. A legitimate visa, evidence of  lodging, proof of financial means to support yourself during your  stay, and a return  ticket or proof of future travel are all  acceptable. It is critical to  confirm the particular criteria for your nation of origin, as they may  differ. To account for processing time, register for your visa well in advance of your scheduled  travel days.

Step-3 Apply for the visa

Once you’ve collected all of the required documentation, you can register for your Sweden vacation visa. This can be done online or at a Swedish embassy or consulate in your native nation. Fill out the registration fully and correctly, and pay any applicable fees. The processing period for a tourist visa varies, so register well in advance of your intended trip dates. You’re set to prepare your bags and explore everything Sweden has to offer once your visa is granted!

Step-4 Pay the visa fee

It is critical to pay the  necessary visa cost when filing for a vacation  visa to Sweden. The fee  varies based on your home nation and the length of your  stay in Sweden. The  application cost can be paid online or in person at the embassy or consulate where you are  registering. As evidence of  payment, save a copy of your payment  receipt. If you  do not pay the visa cost, your application may be  denied.

Step-5 Attend the visa interview (if required)

You may be needed to  attend an immigration application depending on your  country of birth and the duration of your  stay in Sweden. Typically, this  discussion takes place at the embassy or consulate where you are  registering. You will be  asked questions about your travel plans, the reason of your stay, and your  connections to your native nation during the  interview. It is  critical to be truthful and provide straightforward and concise  responses to the interviewer’s  inquiries. Your  registration may be denied if you do not make the interview or provide false  information.

Let’s learn a bit more about Sweden

Imagine a town with streets made of cobblestones and populated with colourful, adorable homes, all set against a stunning mountain range. In fact, this is the main draw of the top tourist destinations in Sweden. In fact, if you’re considering travelling to this unusual location in Europe, be ready to see prehistoric chateaus, eye-catching architecture, and lush woodlands, all covered in a fresh winter’s coat. When you visit the Kingdom of Sweden, you can even get the impression that you’ve walked into a glossy-paged luxury magazine. Sweden is the perfect alternative if you want to escape the crazy crowds that the rest of Europe experiences year-round since it is an impressive fusion of natural beauty, cultural abundance, and gracious living.

Reasons to visit Sweden

Everyone has the right to be free in nature..

The Swedish term Allemansratten, which can be translated as “all man’s right,” essentially means that everyone in Sweden has a right to free nature. This right gives visitors to Sweden a rare opportunity to discover every possible nook and cranny of this country by allowing you to roam and camp wherever you want – provided you do so responsibly and respectfully.

Friendly Wildlife

A wide range of wild animals, including moose, wolves, and lynx, can be found in Sweden. It is best to exercise patience and keep your distance when observing wildlife, especially at dusk or dawn. It may be necessary to walk because some animals, like arctic foxes, live in elevated regions. In lapland, two reindeer are strolling through a forest.

Mid-Summer National Holiday In Swedland

For Swedes, Midsummer is a holiday that begins on a Friday, between June 19 and 25, with Midsummer’s Eve. People relocate to the country to celebrate the summer solstice since it is less well-known than Christmas. Along with well-known customs and enjoyable activities like building maypoles, dancing in circles, and gathering seven flower petals, there are traditional foods and drinks. When performing the ritual, people might dream about the spouse they will one day have.

The Northern Lights Spectacle

The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a spectacular light display that is visible from late September to early April. Abisko National Park is home to the Aurora Sky Station, which provides more accessible, affordable, and milder weather than other nations.

Celebrate Christmas in Sweden.

Given the country’s protracted and gloomy winters, it comes as no surprise that Swedes take the holiday seriously, putting out Advent calendars and visiting the Christmas markets in Stockholm’s Old Town. On December 13, a candlelit procession is held to honour Saint Lucia, during which boys and girls dress in ball gowns and sing in choirs. It’s a warm and comforting experience.

The capital of Sweden and the geographic centre of Scandinavia is Stockholm. It is alluring for its comfortable weather and atmosphere, reminiscent of Venice, combined with modern and classic architecture. It has 14 islands, well-known museums, and cafés, and it’s packed with things to do all year. Swedish people are proficient in English, have a superb sense of design, and favour direct communication. A genuine smile and a Swedish hej are excellent icebreakers.

Saunas can be found in Swedish homes, gyms, and forests. Known as bastu, they are typically wooden spaces with heaters to raise the temperature. Talking, wearing clothing, and entering without a towel are all prohibited. Jump into the snow or take a chilly shower afterward.

Fika is a Swedish tradition where people gather over coffee and cakes to chat with friends and brighten gloomy days. A warm cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun are the top priorities during this daily coffee break, which provides an opportunity for conversation and bonding.

Famous Food from Swedland

Smörgstrta, a sandwich cake with toppings and fillings like caviar, prawns, smoked salmon, pâté, cheese, eggs, and vegetables, is a popular Swedish dish. From New Year’s to Easter, semla buns are a must-try, and kanelbulle, a cinnamon bun with cardamom-spiced toppings, is a traditional treat. The bun is cut off, filled with marzipan paste and whipped cream, and the topping is typically spiced with cardamom.

Sweden as a Culture

The Swedish capital is home to more museums than any other city on earth. Over 20 photography exhibitions are held at prestigious museums like Fotografiska each year, and the National Museum has 50,000 items on display. On the island of Djurgrden in Stockholm is Skansen, an outdoor museum and zoo. Its 150 historic structures, which include churches, schools, shops, and workshops, provide a glimpse into life before the Industrial Revolution.

The trail’s rocky islands and sheer granite cliffs have earned it UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Kosterhavet

If Sweden’s first and only Marine National Park was established here, then there must be something unique about this location. The park is built around the Koster Islands and provides inviting boating and kayaking opportunities. Notably, the park is home to nearly 6,000 species that are unique to this nation. Divers and snorkelers can find the rest they need here while cherishing the opportunity to see coral reefs up close.

The town is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in Sweden, boasting a cathedral from the 12th century and picturesque cobblestone streets. The reviews speak for themselves. See what Nordic Visitor travellers said about their experience with us.

The tour was perfect and went smoothly the entire time. Communication from Nordic Visitor was timely and detailed. Would book with this tour company again.

Memories we'll cherish forever

We found Norway to be a fabulous country and enjoyed every minute of our trip. The scenery was fantastic, the places visited were brilliant and the people were incredibly friendly and helpful. The information pack provided by Nordic Visitor was invaluable, the route chosen for us was superb and the places we stayed in were great. Likewise, the excursions offered, especially the Rib Safari were fantastic and gave us memories we'll cherish forever. Lastly, but by no means least, Irja, our travel consultant, couldn't have been more helpful and I would like to extend a huge thank you to her for all that she did.

Unforgettable in so many ways

It was unforgettable in so many ways, highlights after highlights. We knew to expect a lot after our trip to Iceland a couple of years ago, also organised by Nordic Visitor. Our expectations were exceeded and more. We saw northern lights three times, the food everywhere was excellent, experienced dog sledding in the moonlight and sleeping in the SnowHotel, and we saw a white reindeer! How lucky we are to have experienced all that. We have now returned home, happy and full of awe.

A great experience

Very well-organised tour and a great experience. Nordic Visitor were very professional and their experience was evident in choosing the well-located and comfortable accommodation they selected for us. Best of all we got to see the northern lights!

Incredibly happy!

Our travel agent, Małgorzata, was amazing to work with! She was able to add a few extra days in Oslo and arranged transportation via train to Bergen. Overall, I thought booking this vacation online and making payments was seamless. All the hotels we stayed in were nice, clean and safe! We loved the breakfast buffets, they were top notch! Also, collecting our rental car and navigating in a foreign country was seamless. We are incredibly happy that our tour package that we received at our first hotel included a physical map that had our tour highlighted.

I'll be recommending Nordic Visitor to my friends

The trip was really amazing. We had an absolutely superb time in Tromsø; hotel and excursions were spot on. The guide and whole the staff was really professional. Professional photos taken by the guide were really fantastic. They gave us excellent care, more than what we have experienced on any trip. Our favourite experience was the snowmobile, but catamaran trip was great too. Certainly I will be recommending it to my friends. I was very pleased that those who delivered the services showed a lot of professionalism.

Very satisfied customer

This was my second experience using Nordic Visitor. I am a very satisfied customer. A few years ago we did a self-drive tour of Iceland that was just amazing. This time we did a train/cruise combo tour of Norway. Once again, I can only say you will have a fantastic experience and you will appreciate the labuor of organising and planning being handled by experts who know what they are doing. The cruises through the fjords were beautiful as were the train trips. We loved the combination of train and boat travel as each offered distinct beauty from a different perspective. The country is truly lovely and we look forward to booking future travel with Nordic Visitor!

Extraordinary!

Extraordinary! Everything went off as planned without a hitch. Our travel guide, Juliana, was exceptional, very responsive in answering our questions and providing updates.

Very satisfied with Nordic Visitor

We were very satisfied with the tour and overall experience with Nordic Visitor. The hotels were strategically chosen and the quality of hotels was satisfactory. The optional tours were also highly recommended. Timings of the schedules throughout the tour were ideal and not rushed.

Best vacation we ever had!

Our family of 5 (3 adult children) loved our Norway fjord tour. We saw the most beautiful scenery and loved each hotel. The food was delicious. Something for everyone. Our guide Al and driver Chris kept things running smoothly. We will have memories to last a lifetime. Thank you Nordic Visitor. Best vacation we ever had!

An excellent decision to book with Nordic Visitor

Following research, we decided to book with Nordic Visitor. This was an excellent decision. The booking process was easy and informative and Hanna was always available for guidance. The accommodation provided was top class and, importantly, convenient to the train stations from which we travelled. Our tour was amazing throughout with stunning scenery and sights.

The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway!

The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway. We did a lot of travel in between sights but this enabled us to have a real breadth of experience, from fjords to mountain passes, railway adventures and small boats. Our tour guide was excellent and the sights and experiences outlined for us were top-notch. The materials provided about our tour were excellent and well thought out.

The National Day of Sweden – 6 June

On 6 june swedes celebrate their national day with waving flags and royals..

Normally, the King and Queen of Sweden take part in a ceremony at Skansen, Stockholm’s open-air museum, on the National Day. The yellow and blue Swedish flag is run up the mast, and children in traditional peasant costume present the royal couple with bouquets of summer flowers.

Special ceremonies welcoming new Swedish citizens are also usually held around the country on National Day.

The beginnings

The last time people in general took an active interest in Sweden as a nation-state was at the turn of the century (around 1900, that is) when national-romantic winds were blowing through the country and folklore societies and local history museums were established.

It was then that 6 June first became a day of celebration.

Public holiday since 2005

In 2004, the Swedish parliament voted to make it a public holiday, which may cause people to become more interested in celebrating it. This decision took decades to reach − various proposals had been discussed under a succession of governments. The public holiday was finally implemented in 2005.

There are also groups lobbying for the introduction of an official national pastry, and a national dish, and for the key-fiddle ( nyckelharpa ) to be made the national instrument. But even for ideas as innocent as these, arriving at a consensus has proved difficult.

Sweden’s National Day – the origins

Since 1983, Sweden has celebrated its National Day on 6 June. It is the date on which Gustav Vasa was elected king in 1523. This laid the foundation of Sweden as an independent state, and on the same date in 1809 a new, important constitution was adopted.

The original idea came from Artur Hazelius, who founded the  Skansen open-air museum  in Stockholm and held a national day celebration there on 6 June as early as the 1890s.

At the 1893 World Fair in Chicago, Sweden presented Midsummer Day as a form of Swedish national day, so in the 1890s Sweden celebrated the occasion twice a year. In 1916, 6 June became the Swedish Flag Day, celebrating the fact that Sweden had acquired its own flag following the dissolution of the union with Norway in 1905.

In an Instagram post, the royal family's official account shared an adorable photo of Madeleine with her husband, Christopher O'Neill, and their three children, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas, and Princess Adrienne. Along with the portrait, which was reportedly taken last September, the account also shared the news that the family will be moving back to Sweden, after living in Florida since 2018.

"Princess Madeleine and family are now moving home to Sweden. After several years as foreigners, Princess and Mr. Christopher O'Neill have decided that the family should for now reside in Stockholm," the translated caption reads.

The news that Madeleine and her family would be returning to her homeland was first announced back in 2023, with plans that the big move would happen that summer. However, that timeline was later pushed back, with officials saying, "It is simply that the time for the family with all that a move entails, it has been a little too short." The family have lived abroad for almost a decade, moving to London in 2015, and then to Florida in 2018, where they have remained since.

The youngest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, Madeleine is currently eighth in line to the Swedish throne. Like the Danish royal family, the Swedish royals shook things up in recent years with the decision to streamline the royal family by stripping some official titles from the youngest generation—in this case, Madeleine's children, as well those of her brother, Prince Carl Philip's children. The kids retained their "Prince and Princess" titles but lost the use of the HRH (His or Her Royal Highness) standing.

Unlike the situation in Denmark, which resulted in some public hard feelings among the royal family , Madeleine seemed to welcome the decision, writing at the time, "This change has been planned for a long time. Chris and I think it's good that our children are now getting a greater opportunity to shape their own lives as private individuals in the future."
