Along the way, the beautiful castle of Marvão , the medieval village of Castelo de Vide, the fortified city of Elvas, world heritage site by UNESCO, and small fortified hamlets will tell the stories of wars with moors and Spain . The border is right there on the other side of Guadiana river!
You will get to bike in 2 different countries in one week!
The loveable Alentejo people, at first shy, the Mediterranean typical gastronomy along with the wonders of cork, marble, olive oil and other crafts will enrich your experience. And the wine … well, book and judge for yourself…

Transfer to Marvão, medieval village with a beautiful castle.
6 p.m. – Welcome drink and first briefing of your bike tour
We start by visiting the beautiful fortified village of Marvão with incredible views to the Natural Park of Serra de S. Mamede.
Along the day the landscape is marked by granite rock boulders and pre-historic monuments made with the same rock. The menir of Meada , a single standing stone of 7.15 meters stands out, being the tallest in the whole Iberian Peninsula.
The highlights of the day will probably be the visits to the artisan beer factory and the olive oil mill of Galegos. Here olive oil is already made with modern machines, but you can still see how it was made in the old times . Learn all about the healthiest fat you can eat and try a locally made olive oil. With the famous Alentejo bread, of course!
The train station of Beirã is another of our favorites. It was the first train station after crossing the border from Spain to Portugal, and so they decorated it with tile panels representing the most emblematic places of the country, for “marketing” purposes!
Castelo de Vide , our destination, is unexpectedly lively. A tiny village selected by many foreigners as a hiding isolated paradise, it has a kind of a cosmopolitan vibe . Make dure to have a beer at the Barona bar , where artisanal beers are served and where Portuguese people mingle with already local foreigners. There are a lot of nice restaurants and the square as plenty of modern art statues. Make sure to stroll around up to the castle, one of the best preserved medieval town in Portugal.
Today we go south, crossing the wonderful Natural Park of São Mamede . Narrow secondary roads lead us way to the middle of nowhere. You will meet few people. This is truly an out of the beaten track area. The scenery is gorgeous!
Riding on a post card road where the tree trunks were painted white, we arrive to the roman city of Ammaia. The museum is very informative and well organized. And the city is worth it as well! Then stop at the local winery where you can do a wine tasting. Don’t drink too much… a lot of biking ahead!
We pass several tiny hamlets to finally reach Alegrete, with a small castle perched way up a hill. Time to climb….again! Here we recommend you stop at Café dos Amigos (The friends café).
The scenery maintains amazing.
Arriving to the village’ hotel we still invite you to do a circular route to visit some cave paintings. A super complete and rewarding day!
Distance: 48 kms Total ascent: 690 mts Difficulty: Difficult Terrain: Secondary asphalted roads, undulating, with some climbs. Picnic. Accommodation Monte da Esperança
Get ready for a long day with plenty pictures stops. Go early so you have time to do all the proposed visits as they are unforgettable.
You will ride on secondary roads, almost without traffic, quite isolated. Undulating roads where you can spot griffons and storks. Crossing the border to Spain is a mistic experience. The smallest and more isolated border you will ever see…
We ride through cattle farms in Spain and view the Castle of Alburqueque in the distance. It’s tempting, but don’t go there. We will present you with more castles in Portugal!!! Crossing the border again, we reenter our beautiful country.
Have a break at the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Enxara and then climb to the gorgeous castle of Ouguela. A true testimony of history. In Campo Maior is compulsory to go to the Bone’s chapel, and here is where you can choose to visit the Coffee Museum – adding a few extra kms on your day.
Elvas, considered world heritage by UNESCO, is our destination. To visit tomorrow.
Elvas is a beautiful city . There is so much to see that we have to stop here for a full day.
You will bike around the city and most likely will opt not to do the 35 kms. Because just around here we have the aqueduct, 2 amazing fortresses and a plum factory .
Add the beautiful streets, the local museums and the gorgeous hotel’s SPA and why should you leave….
You will still bike 10 to 15 kms if you visit all we suggest. But inside the castle we find it simpler to walk.
Today we’re going to Spain, again ! We keep crossing the border! We have the Guadiana River as a companion! The river is the natural border between Portugal and Spain and offers fantastic natural views . On the Portuguese side we bike through farmlands. Badajoz is already on the other side of the border, a city full of history. If you have an e-bike and go very early, you might consider visiting the historical center. But it would be extra kms to an already long day!
Following the waters of the river, we pass by olive groves and green fields . We visit Olivenza and its castle. This village, apparently belonging to Spain, is, by our history knowledge, Portuguese. One of those fights….
We return to Portugal heading to the beautiful charming village of Juromenha. We recommend you take the local taxi boat to cross the river.
Distance: 85 kms Total ascent: 481 mts Difficulty: Difficult Terrain: mostly flat, with some climbing and dirt roads. Picnic and dinner included in van guided and guided tours. Accommodation: Casas da Juromenha , with swimming pool
We visit Juromenha and its fortress , which served as an important point of defense against attacks from Spain. Thankfully not necessary anymore! We cycle in a constant up and down between a forest of cork and holm oaks . We understand why the Alentejo region is so important in the production of cork.
The small village of Terena and its sanctuary waits for us. Another wonderful castle . The cemetery is a place of art as well. We must visit it. The marble rock is carved in such artistic way that the place even feels welcoming.
Bike back to the hotel saving some time to relax!
Tour extension :
You can finish your trip with a transfer to our lovely farm in Évora and spend somedays cycling or visiting this beautiful UNESCO city.
We may transfer you to the gorgeous coastline and you may do our ALONG THE COAST TOUR or the WILD ALGARVE .
DISCOUNT PRICE IF YOU BOOK TWO TOURS!
We know you want to do several Portugal Bike tours!
On Van guided Portugal bike tours the guide will be the driver. He/she will guide you from a distance. The car will be near enough so that you can see it on the junctions. The guide will stop at important or interesting places to give history explanations or tell a story. Some people call this a supported tour, though in our case it is more than that because you are actually being guided.
On Guided bike tours groups are accompanied by one or two cycling guides, besides a guide who takes the support car, prepares the picnics and transports your luggage. Lunches are picnic type with traditional foods from the area where we are cycling. Some times we also use local restaurants.
In dinners arranged by us and you can be sure you will try the best gastronomy as we choose restaurants well known by us for its good traditional food. No «touristy» places included!
On van guided or guided cycling tours you can expect full service from your guides. They will do their best to make your holiday an unforgettable one.
Our guides are all Portuguese and know our region very well. They are very service minded and most of them have been working with us for many years. They are bikers themselves and love to go cycling on their holidays, so they know what you expect from them! They will make sure you have a great Portugal bike tour!

Tour Reviews
This is the second time we have been cycling with Best Portugal Cycling – for a reason. Last time we did the Castles and wine tour, this time Northen Alentejo. The tour was wonderful with mostly quiet roads, rolling landscapes and happy cows, sheep, goats, cats, storks and spring flowers greeting us on our way. We had e-bikes which was a good thing the days we climbed up to hilltops with small, beautiful villages overlooking the landscapes. The hotels were all nice and welcoming to cyclists. But most of all the follow-up from Best Portugal Cycling was excellent. From meeting us at the airport to daily check-ins on Whatsapp we felt they were close and at hand for any questions or issues that could arise along the way. We really love the people, landscape, food, wine and most everything with Portugal and Best Portugal Cycling are the perfect hosts. Highly recommend, the team, the tour, the country.
Mario told us this is the first time someone is doing this trip so we will give you lots of feedback. So far the big picture is that it is absolutely gorgeous! You might (but maybe not) remember that last time we came in july. April is obviously better! We wondered if we should do the same tour just with better timing, but we are glad we chose this one – as you suggested.

Bike Tours in Portugal
Portugal has an exceptional range of different landscapes just a short distance away, lots of leisure activities and a unique cultural heritage, where tradition and modernity blend together in perfect harmony. Its superb cuisine, fine wines and hospitable people make this a tourist paradise of the highest quality for bike tours.
The vastness of the landscape is dotted with cork oaks and olive trees that withstand time. Santarém is a natural viewpoint over the immensity of the Tagus. Here and there, you find a walled town, such as Marvão or Monsaraz , or an ancient dolmen to recall the magic of the place. Around the hills, low, whitewashed houses stand on small knolls, castles evoke battles and conquests and the yards and gardens are witness to the Arab influences which shaped the people and nature.
In the Alentejo the power of the land marks the time and cities like Elvas and Évora , listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, show the tenacity of the people. Perhaps this is the reason that culture and spirituality take on a singular character here.

Our Douro Valley, Portugal Bike Tours
With granite bluffs, terraced vineyards, and whitewashed villages, the Douro Valley in Portugal’s north has some of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe – and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tours explore the region along quiet lanes that snake their way up and down the steep-sided valleys. Along the route, you have the chance to visit medieval houses, grand churches, quaint villages, and excellent museums. The area is also one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, with wine – especially Port wine – having been produced here for over 2,000 years.
The region was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001, primarily driven by its long history of winemaking, with an official demarcation as a winemaking region having been made in 1756. The landscape has been manipulated and terraced over centuries. The landscape is additionally dotted with quintas , which are farm complexes and estates built and developed for the purpose of winemaking.
Cycling in Portugal offers a unique way to explore the scenic vineyards, charming villages, and historic sites of the region. The winding roads and gentle hills provide for challenging yet enjoyable riding, with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Stop at local wineries to sample the famous port wine and visit historic landmarks while taking in the area’s rich cultural heritage. Overall, cycling in Portugal offers a memorable and enjoyable way to experience the beauty and culture of the region. Stay in unique hotels full of history and character.

Day 6: Peso da Régua Loop Day
Day One - Porto to Vidago
The Intermediate ride starts with a van transfer to Lagoa do Alvão, a lake just outside Vila Pouca de Aguiar. The first section of the ride is flat through open, rocky fields with wide-open vistas. After 6 km, the route descends through pine forests – typical of Northern Portugal – as it passes the Pedras Salgadas Nature Park. Soon after the park, a short climb brings you to a long, rolling descent into Vidago. The route is punctuated with small stone hamlets with cobbled streets.
Leisure riders will be transferred to the Pedras Salgadas Nature Park where they join the Intermediate ride, described above.
The Challenge route begins in Ribeira de Pena – at one of the many beautiful Baroque churches in the area. A descent from the town takes you to forested roads and then on to an open, steep ten-kilometer climb with expansive views. The route joins the Intermediate route shortly before the Pedras Salgadas Nature Park.

RIDE OPTIONS

Intermediate 25 miles with 1,200 feet of climbing
Challenge 30 miles with 3,400 feet of climbing
OVERNIGHT TOWN
Vidago is a small spa town famed for its miraculous springs with medicinal carbonated waters. In the 19th century, the spa was popular with the royal court and became the most visited spa in Portugal. The waters here have been bottled since 1873.
Day Two - Vidago to Vila Real
Today’s routes head south through scenic and remote countryside.
The Intermediate ride follows a bike path. The views are typical for north Portugal with rocky outcrops, ferns and forested sections. Riders exit the bike path in Vila Pouca de Aguiar for lunch and then rejoin it for a long, straight section through flat farmland. The route joins the road for the final descent into Vila Real.
Leisure riders take a van transfer to Vila Pouca de Aguiar where they join the Intermediate route.
The Challenge route heads west from Vidago before turning south and climbing up through forests and past vineyards and olives groves. The first climb is dotted with houses and villages. The second is more remote and steeper with multiple hairpins. A smooth descent takes you to Vila Pouca de Aguiar for lunch, after which riders follow a modified version of the Intermediate route (avoiding a section of gravel) described above.
Pass through countryside typical of northern Portugal: rocky outcrops, ferns, forests, vineyards and olive groves
Leisure 20 miles with 600 feet of climbing
Intermediate 30 miles with 2,100 feet of climbing
Challenge 40 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing
Vila Real is a compact, university town on the Corgo River. As the name suggests, the city has a royal heritage with many grand palaces from the 16th and 17th centuries. There are also interesting museums, churches, and gardens. The river here runs through a steep-sided gorge that has scenic walking trails along the riverbank.
Day Three - Vila Real to Pinhão
Today’s ride to Pinhão takes riders into the heart of the Alto Douro; an area that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The area is visually spectacular and has a rich history in wine growing, dating back over 2,000 years.
After an initial climb from Vila Real, the Intermediate route winds through small country roads, passing by small villages, farms, and rugged forests. The final seven miles of the route is a twisting descent into the pretty little town of Pinhão where riders get their first sight of the magnificent Douro River.
The Leisure route starts with a transfer to the village of São Martinho de Anta where it joins the intermediate route.
The Challenge ride winds deeper into the rugged countryside to the east of Vila Real before turning south to the pretty medieval villages of Sabrosa and Provesende. The route joins the Intermediate route for the final section into Pinhão.
The Epic route takes a much longer loop to the southwest, following the Douro River to the east into Pinhão.
Ride into the heart of the Alto Douro; an area so spectacular that is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Leisure 15 miles with 650 feet of climbing
Intermediate 30 miles with 2,300 feet of climbing
Challenge 35 miles with 3,100 feet of climbing
50 miles with 5,000 feet of climbing
Known as the home of port wine, Pinhão sits on a picturesque bend of the Douro River. Wine is the key attraction and there are many quintas to visit where you can tour and taste port as well as many other regional wines. There are also boat and train tours out of this attractive little town.
Day Four -Pinhão Loops
All today’s routes start by climbing the steep hill out of Pinhão to the village of Casal de Loivos where riders can take a short detour to the viewpoint that is claimed to be one of the most beautiful views in the world.
The Leisure ride is a simple out-and-back ride to the viewpoint.
After the viewpoint, the Intermediate route continues to climb through wine country to the pretty village of Alijó – a great option for lunch. After Alijó, the ride is a relatively easy cruise downhill, back to Pinhão.
The Challenge route continues west from Alijó past terraced vineyards before descending into Sabrosa – another stunningly pretty village and another great option for lunch. After Sabrosa, the route turns south and passes quinta after quinta before descending back to Pinhão.
The Epic route follows the Challenge route to Alijó where it heads southeast to begin a challenging loop that takes in the riverside town of Tua as well as some spectacular mountain passes on both sides of the Douro River.
A viewpoint with what is claimed to be one of the most beautiful views in the world
Leisure 10 miles with 1,400 feet of climbing
Intermediate 25 miles with 2,800 feet of climbing
Challenge 35 miles with 3,900 feet of climbing
55 miles with 6,500 feet of climbing
Day Five -Pinhão to Peso da Régua
The Leisure route starts with a train ride from Pinhão to Covelinhas. In Covelinhas, it is a steep climb out of the train station but the views over the river and the surrounding landscape are spectacular. The route then parallels the Douro River into Peso da Régua.
Note that there is no Intermediate route available today.
The Challenge route begins with a tough 7-mile climb to the northwest of Pinhão, passing through vineyards as well as rugged, wild countryside. At the top of the climb, you begin a long, rolling cruise past vineyards, cobbled villages, and olive groves. The final descent to Peso da Régua is fast and technical.
The Epic route heads into the hills south of the Douro River. There are three big climbs, and each winding climb gives front row seats to the colossal landscape of the Douro valley. The village of Armamar, at the bottom of the second climb, makes a great lunch stop. The descent to Peso da Régua is 9 miles on smooth roads with more outstanding views.
Ride through vineyards as well as rugged, wild countryside with spectacular views across the valley
Leisure 10 miles with 650 feet of climbing
Intermediate None
Challenge 30 miles with 3,000 feet of climbing
40 miles with 4,700 feet of climbing
Peso da Régua
Situated in the heart of the Douro Valley, Peso da Régua has a rich history dating back to Roman times. In the 18th century, the town became the main trading post for port wine and is now home to some of the best restaurants in the area as well as being the starting point for scenic train rides and river cruises.
Day Six - Peso da Régua Loops - Last Day
Today’s rides head across the car-free bridge to the south bank of the Douro River.
The Leisure ride is an out-and-back ride on small lanes alongside the river. The roads are rolling with fine views of vineyards, their quintas and, of course, the river.
The Intermediate ride follows the Leisure ride for five miles before heading uphill to the historic town of Lamego with its castle, cathedral, sanctuary, and iconic stairway. After enjoying lunch in Lamego, you descend quickly back to Peso da Régua.
The Challenge route follows the Intermediate route for the most part but adds in more riding west, alongside the Douro River.
The Epic route is the same as the Challenge route with an additional loop south from Lamego. This additional loop climbs through remote villages, fruit orchards, and pretty countryside. At the top of the climb the route changes to pine forests and riders enjoy a fast descent back to Lamego, where they rejoin the Intermediate route back to Peso da Régua.
Head uphill to the historic town of Lamego with its castle, cathedral, sanctuary and iconic stairway
Leisure 15 miles with 1,300 feet of climbing
Intermediate 20 miles with 2,000 feet of climbing

BIKE CHOICES
Hybrid bike.
Hybrids bikes are a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike. They have a relaxed riding position and are great for beginners and intermediate riders. A typical model is the Trek 7.3 FX with Shimano components and high-pressure road tires for better cycling efficiency than your typical hybrid.
Our road bikes are a racing style bike with drop handlebars. The road bikes are faster bikes than the hybrids with less upright riding position. A typical model is the Émonda ALR 5 with aluminum frame, carbon forks, and Shimano 105 components. (NOTE: Some of the smaller roads in Puglia can be a little rough making a hybrid bikes a better choice for some riders.)
Our eBikes are designed to give you a little extra assistance when climbing hills. The ride position is very similar to our hybrids. We typically rent Scott E-Sub equipped with a 250W E-drive Bosch motor. If one rider in a couple is stronger than the other, an eBike can be a great choice for the less-strong rider.
If you have a favorite bike, we can help you get it to your destination as well as set it up once it is there. Please ask about options for bike shipping and assembly.
Receiving & Assembly per bike charge to receive bike from shipper, assemble the bike and repack it and deliver it to a shipper at the end of the tour.
Bike Boxes a per box charge for the extra logistics needed to handle bike boxes during a tour. Note: this fee can be avoided if you leave your box with your start/end hotel.
Tandem Bike a per bike fee for the extra logistics to handle a tandem bike that is brought by a guest.

Straight Talk
We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
The slower pace, relaxed approach to life and old-world qualities in Portugal are some of the highlights of this spectacular region and are reflected in the hotels and restaurants on this trip. This said, service can lack a sense of urgency when compared with the service found in other parts of Europe. Additionally, while the Premiere hotels we've chosen are some of the finest in the country, they may seem a bit simpler than the Backroads European standard. The same can be said for Portuguese cuisine, which is traditionally a celebration of local flavors but is also bit more rustic than other places we visit in Europe.
World-Class Hotels
Our hand-selected Premiere hotels offer exceptional hospitality and experiences as special as the regions we explore.
Hotels may vary based on departure. Any variations will be displayed when selecting a departure under Dates & Prices.

What Guests are Saying
Each day was different and a unique experience. Really appreciate all the thought and planning that went into finding each restaurant and the logistics of moving a big group like ours look effortless! 5 star restaurants and wine.
Jim, Trek Travel Guest
This trip was spectacular from the beginning to the end. All guides, all rides, all meals, all activities. Well thought out and planned.
Susan, Trek Travel Guest
Thank you for another great experience. Some of our biking buddies did their own home-grown rides in Portugal while we were on the Trek trip, and they acknowledged the Trek trip looked a lot more fun.
The dining experiences were amazing. The vineyard tour and dinner on the last night was unforgettable, gorgeous and so special. I felt so privileged to spend the evening there.
Sylvia, Trek Travel Guest
Every meal out as a group was well thought out and enhanced our experience, from the opening dinner in town with local wine and food to the final closing. The lunch in Elvas with the incredible view was fabulous, with well selected food. The dinner in Estremoz was incredible, with the highest quality food and presentation. And the final closing dinner with wine tour, bit of cooking on the estate, and seating at the most elaborate table with wonderful service was a lovely closing touch.
Candace, Trek Travel Guest
Both the tour of Evora and the tour of the cork estate were wonderful. The history of the region was central to the enjoyment and awe of the spaces we visited. Meeting and enjoying the people of the region enriched our time there.

Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS). Public transportation is inexpensive and easy to use from the airport. You can take the Metro with a one-way ticket for 1.90€ or the daily pass (which allows you to use the metro, bus, trams, and trains) for 6€. More information can be found at www.metro.transporteslisboa.pt . Alternatively, taxis are plentiful and cost approximately 15-25 Euros to Lisbon center.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the bakery A Padaria Portuguesa (Rua Mouzinho da Silveira 2, 1250-042 Lisbon) at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. You'll then shuttle approximately two hours to your retreat oasis for the week. Please have your first-day cycling clothes and riding gear easily accessible, separate from your luggage. After a light lunch of local delights on the patio of the hotel, your guides will fit and familiarize you with your bike for the week and speak to the specifics of cycling in the area before taking to the roads of Alentejo.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Alentejo Marmoris Hotel and Spa (+351 268 887 010), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. A taxi from Lisbon to the first hotel will take about two hours and cost around 200 euros.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at the Alentejo Marmoris Hotel and Spa in Vila Viçosa, Portugal. You will shuttle approximately two hours to the Lisbon Portela Airport to arrive around 1:00 PM. Please do not schedule a flight out before 2:30 PM on the last day of the trip to allow plenty of time for any unforeseen delays. Guide Gratuities
Guide gratuities are customary and at your own discretion, to recognize service, hospitality, and the little extras that surprise and delight. For this trip, we suggest a tip for your guides between $240-$300 per guest and, of course, you may choose to give more if your guides made your trip an unforgettable experience. While local currency is preferred, there are other options to make tipping easier. Most guides accept gratuity via PayPal or our staff can help before or after the trip. Gratuities will be divided among the guide team, so feel free to leave your gratuity with whomever you choose at the end of your trip.

Know Before You Go!
We want you to be fully prepared for your cycling vacation of a lifetime. This involves making sure that you choose the appropriate trip for you and that every aspect of your experience is flawless. Each Trek Travel trip is unique to ensure maximum enjoyment every time.
Your Trip Need to Knows:
- Meals in the Alentejo region can last longer than usual; two or more hours, allowing time to enjoy the delicious and carefully-prepared cuisine at a leisurely pace.
- Shuttles: We extensively utilize shuttles to explore our favorite places in the Alentejo region. Consider this an opportunity to enjoy breathtaking scenery and experience the region’s finest offerings as you are transported after the ride or to dinner on most days.
Before and After Your Trip
Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon, known as the city of seven hills, is the capital city of Portugal overflowing with great café culture, music, art, and gratuitous history. You'll be enchanted by the narrow, cobbled streets and white washed walls, ochre roofs, and colourful splashes of ceramic tiles. Be sure to walk the streets of some of the many storied neighbourhoods and certainly don't pass up a pastéis de nata, Portugal's mouthwatering custard tart. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre- and post-trip hotel:
Where to Stay
Memmo Alfama
Perched on a magnificent hillside in the Alfama district, with a spectacular view of the city lies this hidden gem of a shoe polish factory turned boutique hotel. Perfectly situated for your local explorations and an evening cocktail with a view. www.memmohotels.com
Hotel Britania
Boutique Art Deco Hotel in the heart of the historic center of Lisbon. A stay at this hotel is a step back in time. It's the only hotel in Lisbon to date from the 1940s and is truly a special experience, both from a design and a service standpoint. Very attentive and wonderful staff on hand to make your stay the perfect beginning or end to your Trek Travel Vacation. www.lisbonheritagehotels.com
Hotel White Lisboa
Modern boutique hotel offers panoramic views and comfortable accommodation in the centre. Hotel White Lisbon features an outdoor swimming pool and views of the city. www.hotelwhitelisboa.com
Packing and Weather
The south central region of Alentejo sees favorable temperatures year round, but spring and fall are the best time to visit with average 70-80 degree highs (21-26ºC) and lows of 50-55 degrees (10-12ºC). Mornings and evenings in fall can be cooler so make sure to pack layers. Rain is infrequent but there is always a chance for a shower so don’t forget your rain gear to assure you comfort while riding. View our Packing List

Your booking will be finalized once your no-risk deposit is paid. If you make a reservation more than 90 days prior to the trip, a $750 no risk deposit is due at the time of booking.** If you reserve your trip less than 90 days prior to the departure, the full balance is due at the time of booking. Once your booking is complete you will receive an email confirmation with important information pertaining to your trip.
*Please note that select trips cannot be booked online at this time. For those trips, please call a trip consultant at 866-464-8735.
**Deposit amounts vary for all Race, Cross Country, Special Edition, Ride Camp, Discover, and Self-Guided tours. Please confirm deposit amounts for all trips with your Trip Consultant at time of booking.
What happens once I book?
When a trip is booked, a guest confirmation email is immediately sent out. One week prior to the trip start, you’ll receive an email containing your trip start meeting location reminder and any last-minute information that you’ll need to know. You will also receive instructions to download the Ride with GPS app before your trip to provide you the day to day plan and daily route guides.
Guaranteed to run
With one person booked on a date, the trip becomes guaranteed.*
In the case where trips are at one or two guests, we will contact you prior to final payment to give you the following options:
Pay a small trip fee of $500 per person for two guests or $1000 for one guest, which ensures your preferred trip date will run. If there are three or more guests before departure date, the fee will be refunded in full.
Switch to a different trip or different departure date. Should there be any difference in trip price between your original trip and the new one, you will be expected to pay the difference, or we will refund you accordingly.
Offer only valid if Trek Travel contacts a guest to discuss these specific options. Bike trips with fewer than three guests may operate with only one guide. The guide will support all rides with a Trek Travel van. If you would like to discuss the option of having two guides, please speak with your trip consultant.
The small trip supplement for Ride Camps is as follows – for two guests an additional $250 or for one guest an additional $500.
*Cross Country, Discover, Race, and Special Edition trips as well as a small number of select departures have a minimum guest count to guarantee. Please check with your Trip Consultant for more information.
Unforeseen events may make it necessary to cancel or modify a trip. Our Guest Services team will update you with any changes. We reserve the right to cancel departures in cases of force majeure or the failure of third parties—such as hotels—to honor their reservations, in which case all payments received to date will be refunded, which constitutes full settlement. Trek Travel is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation for any canceled trips, such as airline tickets, or for costs that are incurred due to travel delays, flight cancellations, or illness. We strongly encourage Travel Protection for complete coverage.
