Hola Barcelona Travel Card (Hola BCN Card) – Is it worth buying 2024?

What is the Hola Barcelona Travel Card? Does it make sense to buy a HolaBCN card?

What is the Hola BCN card?

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card (English: Hello Barcelona Card) is a multi-day ticket for public transport in Barcelona . It entitles you to:

1 Any number of journeys on the metro (Metro) , the city buses (TMB) , the tram, the light rail (FGC, Zone 1), the Montjuïc funicular railway and the regional or suburban railway (Rodalies de Catalunya, Zone 1).

2 Use of the airport line of the Metro . You cannot use this route with regular single tickets or a 10-trip metro card (T-Casual). If you do not have a Hola Barcelona card, you must buy the Airport Ticket. For a return journey, the Airport Ticket currently (2024) costs €11 per person.

One card – many names: “HolaBCN!”, “Hola Barcelona”, or “Hola Barcelona Travel Card”?

Many names for one card. Until 2019, the card was called “HolaBCN!” Card. Now it is called “Hola Barcelona” or “Hola Barcelona Travel” Card. Nothing has changed except the name. Since both names are familiar, we will use both names here.

How much does the Hola Barcelona Card cost in 2024?

In 2024, the Hola BCN! Card costs per person when purchased in Barcelona:

2 days / 48h validity: €17.50 (€8.75 per day) 3 days / 72h validity: €25.50 (€8.50 per day) 4 days / 96h validity: €33.30 (€8.33 per day) 5 days / 120h validity: €40.80 (€8.16 per day)

Is the Hola Barcelona Card useful for your Barcelona trip?

Hola BCN Ticket hola Barcelona Travel Card

We have calculated this for a typical 3-day trip:

Barcelona is a large metropolitan region with almost 5 million inhabitants.

Barcelona is too big to cover all distances on foot

If you want to be reasonably mobile and see a few of the city’s attractions, you will use local transport. It’s nice, especially in the summer heat, to be able to take an air-conditioned bus or metro instead of walking for miles.

Free airport transfer

You arrive by plane and then have to get from El Prat Airport to your accommodation in the city centre. For transfers from the airport to the city centre , the metro or train offer a fast and inexpensive connection.

You can either buy the “Airport Ticket” for the metro or the Halo Barcelona Travel Card . Regular single tickets or the T-Casual 10-trip card are not valid here.

Our conclusion:

For a typical 3-day stay, buying a Hola Barcelona card can quickly pay for itself: Just 2-3 trips per day by metro, bus or tram will save you money.

We can’t put a monetary value on comfort or time savings:

What is it worth to you, for example, if you don’t have to buy single tickets from the ticket machine more often and may have to stand in a queue?

  • The Hola Barcelona Card is very convenient . You don’t have to worry about the validity of single tickets and can also use the bus spontaneously for 1 or 2 stops. Just get on and ride…
  • Moreover, you won’t notice that local transport is run by different companies. Even the metro has two operators (TMB, FGC). The HolaBCN card is valid for all of them: TMB (Transporte Metropolitans de Barcelona), FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) and Rodalies de Catalunya.
Save yourself time and stress abroad.  The Hola BCN! Online Ticket can be purchased via this website. With an online ticket, you don’t have to deal with ticket purchase and fare systems after your flight.

When is the Hola Barcelona ticket not suitable – what are the alternatives?

There are several cases when the Hola BCN ticket is not worth it. Here are some examples and alternative suggestions:

  • You are staying in Barcelona for a longer period of time. In this case, a monthly ticket could be the better choice.
  • You are not travelling by plane and do not want to use public transport very often. In this case, single tickets or a 10-trip T-Casual card are the better choice.
  • If you want to visit a lot of sights. In this case, the “Barcelona Card” may be cheaper for you. The Barcelona Card includes all the services of the “Hola BCN” card and offers additional free or reduced admission to many sights.

Hola Barcelona Travel Card: The Ultimate Guide (2024)

' src=

So, you’re thinking about taking the plunge into the vibrant streets of Barcelona? Whether it’s the allure of Gaudí’s architectural marvels, the mouthwatering tapas, or the sun-soaked beaches that have you hooked, getting around the city can be a tad overwhelming.

Enter the Hola Barcelona Travel Card – a secret weapon for seamless travel. But with so many options out there, is it really the golden ticket you’re hoping for?

Well, given that I live in Spain and have roamed the lively streets of Barcelona more times than I can count (usually by public transport!), I’ve got all the info you need to know on what this card is – and, importantly, if it’s worth it for you.

In summary, what’s the deal with this card?

  • Free access to all public transport – metro, buses, trams, regional and suburban trains, and the Montjuïc funicular
  • Free metro travel to and from the airport (which is normally €10.30 for a return trip)
  • Choose between two and five days validity – so you only pay for how long your trip to Barcelona is
  • Note that you have to collect the physical card once you get to Barcelona, even when buying it online – but don’t worry, I’ve got the pickup points below

Buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card here (it’s cheaper than buying it in person!)

What does the Hola Barcelona Travel Card cover?

If you’re thinking of making your way around Barcelona with ease, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is a practical option. Essentially, it’s a multi-day pass that gives you free access to a range of public transport in the city.

That is, with this card in your pocket, you have the flexibility to hop onto the city’s metro, TMB buses, tram, the light rail FGC within Zone 1, take a ride up with the Montjuïc funicular railway, and even use the regional or suburban railway (Rodalies de Catalunya, Zone 1).

Basically, if you plan to use public transport during your trip (which you should, in my opinion), this is going to be one of the best passes for Barcelona based on your travel style.

Plus, if you’re traveling to or from the airport, the card covers the airport Metro line . It’s worth noting that without the Hola Barcelona card, you’d need a separate Airport Ticket for this route, setting you back about €10.30 for a return trip.

Grab your own Hola Barcelona Travel Card here.

You can opt for a Hola Barcelona card that’s valid for 48, 72, 96, or 120 hours. But remember, this starts ticking from the moment you first use it, not by the calendar day. So, if you start using a 48-hour card at 4 PM, it’ll be valid until 4 PM two days later.

What are the benefits of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

Exploring Barcelona can be simpler and cost-effective with the Hola Barcelona Travel Card. With versions ranging from 48 to 120 hours of unlimited travel, you have ample time and convenience to discover what the city offers.

The beauty of Barcelona often lies in its neighborhoods, parks, and the seafront. And while walking is a great way to soak in the city, the metro and bus network are easily the best ways to get around Barcelona .

The Hola Barcelona card lets you get around efficiently, granting you access to the extensive metro, tram, and bus systems. And again, if you’re coming in or heading out via the airport, this card covers that metro route.

If you need to pick one up after landing (whether you choose to purchase it in-person or  buy it at a discount online beforehand and then pick it up on arrival) or have queries, you can head to the tourist information offices located at both airport terminals.

What are the exceptions to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

While the Hola Barcelona Travel Card offers a lot, there are a few things it doesn’t cover. Specifically, you can’t use it for taxis or the NitBus service. It’s also not valid for the Aerobús, given that it’s operated by a privately owned company.

Despite these limitations, the card provides a comprehensive coverage of the city’s public transportation system. Just ensure you’re aware of what’s included and plan accordingly. Barcelona is an experience, and this card helps you navigate it better.

Is the airport bus included in the Hola Barcelona card?

No, the airport bus, also known as Aerobús, isn’t covered by the Hola Barcelona card. It’s operated privately and isn’t part of Barcelona’s city bus system. That said, with the HolaBCN card, you can hop onto the metro for free rides between the airport and city center.

While the Aerobus offers a direct route and certain conveniences, the metro remains one of the most reliable and cheapest ways to travel in Barcelona , including to the airport and especially if you’re using the Hola Barcelona card. Just remember to check the metro’s timings and routes, so you’re aligned with your flight schedules or city plans.

On the other hand, if you’d still rather have the convenience of the airport bus, you can buy a ticket for the Aerobús right here .

Who is the Hola Barcelona Travel Card best for?

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card is a handy choice for travelers aiming to maximize their time in the city using public transportation. If you’re planning multiple trips or hopping between attractions, this card offers both convenience and cost-saving benefits.

It’s especially useful for those staying in the city for more than a day and want hassle-free access to various transport modes.

For first-timers or those revisiting, Barcelona is packed with sites to see. The card eliminates the need to buy individual tickets, giving you more freedom to spontaneously decide your next stop.

Moreover, if you’re traveling with family or a group, having the card can simplify the logistics of getting around. Simply put, if you’re all about exploring Barcelona’s nooks and crannies without transport worries, the Hola Barcelona card is a solid bet.

Where can you buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

You have a couple of options when it comes to purchasing the Hola Barcelona card. You can buy it directly in Barcelona from a ticket machine, or you can grab it online before your trip kicks off. Remember that buying it online gives you a discount compared to getting one in person.

So if you want to lock in that discount, buy your Hola Barcelona Travel card online here .

However, there’s a slight catch. If you opt for the online purchase, you’ll need to collect the card once you’re in Barcelona. Don’t sweat it though, there are several collection points for your convenience:

  • Airport, Terminal T1: You can find a Tourist Information Office at the Barcelona Airport. They operate from Monday to Friday, 8am to 8:30pm, and over the weekend from 8:30am to 8:30pm.
  • Airport, Terminal T2: Again at the Barcelona Airport, but with slightly different hours. From Monday to Saturday, it’s 8am to 8:30pm, and on Sundays, it’s 8:30am to 8pm.
  • Plaça Catalunya: Located at Plaça Catalunya, 17-basement, this spot is open daily from 8:30am to 8:30pm. There’s also an information booth in front of El Corte Inglés department store that’s open every day from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
  • Plaça Espanya: Head to Plaça Espanya, s/n – Avinguda Maria Cristina, where they’re available daily from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
  • Sagrada Familia: A tourist information booth is ready for you daily from 8:30am to 8pm.
  • Mirador de Colom (Columbus Monument): Located at Plaça Portal de la Pau, s/n, this spot is open daily from 8:30am to 2:30pm, but do note it’s closed on 1/1 and 25/12.

So, choose what works best for you and get ready to navigate Barcelona with ease!

How much does the Hola Barcelona Travel Card cost?

Here’s the price of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card based on the length of the validity period you choose:

  • 72 hours (three days): €23.80 (i.e. €7.93 per day)

  • 120 hours (five days): €38.20 (i.e. €7.64 per day)

Alternatives to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card

Barcelona is a city with a comprehensive transport network, and as such, it has a variety of passes and cards to offer. For instance, there’s the T-Casual card, ideal for someone making multiple trips over an undefined period. The Barcelona Card also offers free transport along with discounts to several attractions.

Then there’s the T-Dia, a one-day unlimited travel ticket without the perks of discounted entry to places. Depending on your itinerary, duration of stay, and preferences, it might be worth comparing these alternatives to the Hola Barcelona card to ensure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.

What’s the difference between the Hola Barcelona card and T-casual?

The Hola Barcelona card offers unlimited rides over a set number of consecutive days, making it a top pick for tourists looking to explore extensively in a short span. On the other hand, the T-casual provides 10 trips, not bound by consecutive days.

This makes it ideal for travelers with a more relaxed schedule or those not requiring daily transport.

Basically, the Hola Barcelona card and T-casual are both useful tools to navigate Barcelona’s public transport, but they cater to different needs. It’s worth considering your travel plans and choosing the best one for you accordingly.

Is there a difference between “HolaBCN” and the “Hola Barcelona Travel Card”?

Names can be confusing, can’t they? Let’s clear the air. The card previously known as “HolaBCN!” Card underwent a little rebrand in 2019. Its new avatar? “Hola Barcelona” or “Hola Barcelona Travel Card”.

But here’s the good news – the name might have got a facelift, but everything else remains the same!

Since both names are rooted in traveler memory, I’ll be interchanging between the two in this guide. Just remember, they refer to the same trusty card!

Where is the Hola Barcelona Travel Card valid?

With the Hola Barcelona Travel Card in hand, Barcelona’s public transport is your oyster. It paves your way for unlimited rides on the metro (Metro), city buses (TMB), trams (Tram), light rail (FGC, Zone 1), the Montjuïc Funicular, and Rodalies regional trains within Zone 1.

Why is Zone 1 a big deal? Simple. Most of the iconic sights that have made Barcelona world-famous are nestled right here.

Plus, it conveniently includes El Prat Airport, ensuring your city-airport-city commute is sorted.

Diving a little deeper: Rodalies trains, locally known as Catalan trains, act as a link between Barcelona and its outskirts. These trains reach destinations situated over 50 km from the city’s heart, but with your HolaBCN card, it’s Zone 1 where you’ll enjoy unrestricted access.

If buses are more your speed, you’re in for a treat. The card gives you a ticket to hop on any of the 100+ city bus lines operated by the city’s TMB company. However, do keep in mind that certain specialized bus routes, especially those managed by private entities like the Aerobús (airport shuttle) or NitBus, don’t accept the HolaBCN! Card.

Always good to double-check before boarding!

Beautiful tram in Barcelona can be used when you have Hola Barcelona travel card.

Is it worth getting a travel card in Barcelona?

In Barcelona, having a travel card can simplify your mobility and potentially save you money. However, if you’re planning to stay in Barcelona for an extended period, say, more than a week, a monthly ticket might prove more economical. This ticket gives you flexibility and cost benefits over longer durations.

Unsurprisingly, the answer on whether it’s worth getting a travel card while you’re in Barcelona depends on your travel plans and intentions in the city.

One other example is for those not arriving by plane and anticipating minimal use of the local transport. In those cases, buying individual tickets or opting for the 10-trip T-Casual card might be more sensible. It offers versatility without tying you down to unlimited rides.

Lastly, for the passionate sightseer, the Barcelona Card could be a game-changer. This card not only encompasses all the transport benefits of the HolaBCN card but also throws in either free or reduced admissions to a host of city attractions.

Can I buy a Hola Barcelona Travel Card from the airport?

Absolutely! The Hola Barcelona Travel Card can be purchased directly from the Barcelona Airport, making it convenient for travelers to acquire one right after landing.

(Although you can also buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card online for a cheaper price than getting it in-person and then simply collect it at the airport once you get there!)

Where to buy a Hola Barcelona card in the airport?

For travelers keen on securing the Hola Barcelona Travel Card from the airport, keep an eye out for the Tourist Information Offices. Here’s where you can find them:

  • Airport, Terminal T1: Barcelona Airport operates from Monday to Friday, 8am to 8:30pm, and over the weekend, from 8:30am to 8:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Airport, Terminal T2: This location is open from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8:30pm, and on Sundays from 8:30am to 8pm.

Remember, if you’ve made an online purchase of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, these offices are also where you’ll collect it.

Bonus tip: Purchasing the card online offers a 5% discount, which is a neat saving for just a little pre-planning!

How do you use the Hola Barcelona Travel Card on the bus?

Using the Hola Barcelona Travel Card on the city’s bus system is straightforward and user-friendly. Upon boarding a bus, you’ll find card validation machines. Simply place your Hola Barcelona card against the reader until you hear a beep or see a validation signal.

As you board any of Barcelona’s buses, look out for the card validation machines, typically near the entrances. Approach the machine and tap or place your card close to the reader.

You’ll know the card is recognized when you hear an audible beep or when the machine’s display confirms the validation. This process ensures your card is active and valid for the journey.

And remember, even though the card offers unlimited rides, you should always validate it every time you board.

Touristic bus on the street. Barcelona City Tour is a new official touristic bus service that shows the city with an audio guide. One of the many advantage when you have Hola Barcelona travel card.

Does Hola Barcelona include the Aerobus?

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card does not cover rides on the Aerobus. The reason behind this is that the Aerobus operates as a private service and isn’t integrated with the city’s regular bus system.

However, there’s a silver lining for HolaBCN card holders traveling to and from the airport. While the Aerobus remains outside the purview of the Hola Barcelona card (and you can always buy a ticket for the airport bus separately here if you prefer the convenience it offers), cardholders are not entirely without airport connectivity.

The city’s metro system, which is covered by the card, offers efficient connections to both the airport and the city center. This provides travelers with a convenient alternative, ensuring they can transition between the airport and their Barcelona destinations without incurring additional transport expenses.

So, even if the Aerobus isn’t an option, your HolaBCN card still makes sure you’ll have a seamless airport commute.

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card is a transport ticket that you can use in Barcelona for unlimited travel on the public transportation system throughout the duration of the ticket.  They can be good value if you plan on taking a lot of trips, but is the Hola Barcelona Card worth it for you?  In this article I’ll do a deep dive into the benefits of the Hola Barcelona Card and whether it is a good idea, as well as alternatives that might be better for your needs.  Let’s go!

How Much Does The Hola Barcelona Card Cost?

The cost of a Hola Barcelona Card depends on how long you want to use the card for.  There are several different options depending on how many days you will spend in Barcelona.  These are the current Hola Barcelona Travel Card prices for 2024:

48-Hour/2 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 17.50

72-Hour/3 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 25.50

96-Hour/4 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 33.30

120-Hour/5 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 38.20

Children under 4 travel free, but everyone else will need their own Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

What is Included in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

Within the validity period of your Barcelona Hola Card, you are allowed an unlimited number of journeys on the following forms of public transport in Barcelona:

  • Buses (operated by the TMB Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona)
  • Montjuïc Funicular (not the cable car)
  • Urban trains in Zone 1 (operated by the FGC Generalitat city network)
  • Regional Railway trains in Zone 1 (operated by Rodalies de Catalunya)
  • The metro or train journey to and from the airport is included in your ticket.

The validity of the ticket begins from the first time you use it, it is not based on calendar days – so if first use a 48 hour Hola Barcelona ticket at 6pm on Friday evening, it will be valid until 6pm on Sunday evening.

The Hola Barcelona Card only includes the public transport listed above.

Aerobus Barcelona tickets are not included, nor are the Night buses (NitBus). No other entry tickets to attractions or tours in Barcelona are included in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

A Public Bus in Barcelona

Is The Hola Barcelona Card Worth It?

This really depends on how many times you are likely to take the metro, bus or tram during your stay in Barcelona.

Before buying your Hola Barcelona Travel Card I would recommend planning out your Barcelona itinerary so you have a better idea of your schedule and how many journeys you will take, and so whether the Hola Barcelona Card will be worth it for you.

In most cases, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card will save you money so I would say that yes it is worth it.

Is the Hola Barcelona Card Worth it to Save Money?

Yes, if you plan to take enough journeys to make it cheaper than buying individual tickets.

single transport tickets for one journey on the metro cost €2.55, so if you plan to take more than 7 journeys in 48 hours then the 2 day / 48 hour Hola Barcelona Travel Card will save you money as it only costs €17.50.

If you plan to take the metro or train from Barcelona airport to the city centre, then a single airport transport ticket costs €5.50, making the Hola Barcelona Travel Card even better value as you’d only need to take 2 trips from/to the airport and 3 other journeys on the public transport to save money.

Day tickets for the Barcelona metro, buses and other public transport cost €11.20 so the price of a 48 hour/ 2-day Hola Barcelona Travel Card is cheaper than buying two separate standard day tickets for the Barcelona public transport system.

Is the Hola Barcelona Card Worth it for Convenience?

Yes, it is the easiest way to take care of your public transport in Barcelona if you plan on taking more than one or two journeys.

I used to recommend buying a 10 journey ticket called a T-Casual (previously called a T-10 ticket), but since the start of 2024 these multi-journey tickets can only bought if you register for the T-mobilitat service in advance.  T-mobilitat is a new service where you buy a transport card which you keep and can top up before taking a journey, or you can use an app on your phone to top up and scan as your ticket.

It takes a couple of days to process the registration online and, although it isn’t complicated, if you only plan on staying in Barcelona for a few days the easiest option is to just get the Hola Barcelona Transport Card which you can buy online here or from any metro ticket machines.

If you only need to take a couple of public transport journeys it may not be worth it, but another benefit of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is knowing that all of your public transport is taken care of (including the trip to and from the airport) so you don’t have to worry about buying other tickets every time you want to take the metro or bus.

Extra Things to Know

If you buy your Barcelona Travel Card in advance online you will need to exchange your voucher at one of the following tourist information offices, so check your flight arrival times match up with these, otherwise you can just buy it when you arrive:

  • Barcelona Airport Terminal 1, 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM Monday-Saturday, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM Sunday & Bank Holidays
  • Barcelona Airport – Terminal 2 Daily. From 8 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Barcelona Airport – Metro Terminal 1 Monday to Sunday, from 9 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Plaça de Catalunya Main Office Daily. From 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM
  • Plaça de Catalunya Nord Monday to Sunday, from 9 AM to 8 PM

Alternatives to The Hola Barcelona Card

The barcelona card: 25+ museums and free public transportation.

The Barcelona Card is an alternative to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card and is great value for money if you plan to visit several of the top museums in Barcelona.  You can read my full review of The Barcelona Card here to see if it is worth it for you.  Overall I think it is great value – if you are planning to visit the museums and attractions it includes.

As well as including unlimited public transport like the Hola Barcelona Travel, the Barcelona Card also includes free entry to over 25 Barcelona museums, as well as discounts to additional attractions and activities, and a free guidebook in 6 languages with a map of Barcelona.

Some of the entry tickets you get for free include:

  • a skip the line ticket to the Picasso Museum,
  • a skip the line ticket to the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC),
  • free entry to the CaixaForum, Moco Museum, Montjuic Castle
  • a skip the line ticket to the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB)
  • and many more.

You can see the full list of included museums and attractions here .

Similar to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, the Barcelona Card validity period begins from the first time you use it and lasts for 72, 96, or 120 hours after the first use.

Barcelona Card Prices

72-Hour/3 Day Barcelona Card: € 55

96-Hour/4 Day Barcelona Card: € 65

Barcelona Card Benefits

If you love museums and plan to visit several while you are in Barcelona, this card is great value.  Even if you only visit one of these museums on each day of your visit you will still save money compared to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card:

Picasso Museum: online ticket price €15

Moco Museum: ticket price from €14.95 to €17.95

National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC): price €12

Even if you just visit one of these on each day that is at least €52 of entry ticket prices, and with the Barcelona costing just €55 for 3 days it is worth getting, and better value than the Hola Barcelona Travel card, as long as you are definitely going to visit the museums and attractions that are included.

Standard Barcelona Transport Tickets

Instead of buying a ticket that lasts for the whole duration of your trip, you could just buy the transport tickets as and when you need them.  The most common types of metro tickets for visitors to Barcelona are:

Single Ticket (Bitllet senzil)

A single ticket is one journey on the public transport system in Barcelona.  It includes transfers within the city limits for journeys on multiple metros, buses, trams and trains for up to 1 hour 45 minutes.  It is not valid for the metro stations Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 on line L9 Sud, but you can use it for a bus journey or the Montjuïc funicular.  Cost: €2.55

Single Airport ticket (Bitllet aeroport)

Trips to the airport on line L9 are not included in the standard metro tickets, so if you travel to or from the airport on the metro you will need one of these airport tickets.  It is valid for a single metro journey to or from the airport on the metro network. Cost: €5.50

A T Casual Barcelona Metro Ticket

INSIDER TIP: The train (not the metro) from Barcelona Airport Terminal Two to Barcelona is included in the following metro ticket types:

The T-Dia is an individual travel card allowing an unlimited number of journeys to be made in one day on all operators in the integrated transport system, including buses, metro, trams and trains (including the airport train from Terminal 2).  Cost: €11.20 for 1 zone.

T-Mobilitat Cards

T-mobilitat is the new contactless ticketing and validation system for public transport in Barcelona, and requires registering online in advance of coming to Barcelona which makes things more complicated for tourists.  You can register online here .

This is a single-person, multi-journey card that allows for ten separate trips on the metro, buses, trams, and suburban trains within Zone 1 of the Barcelona transport network.  There is no expiration time for the tickets, so you can use it across several days.

The only time you need to check the expiration date is if you are visiting Barcelona over New Year, as prices often change on 1 st January and tickets bought in the previous year are not valid for the New Year.

Cost: €12.15 for 1 zone.

NB: The T-Casual replaced the popular T-10 which could be shared between multiple people – the T-Casual cannot be shared, each person must purchase their own ticket.

T-familiar Card

The T-familiar card is a multi-person travel card allowing 8 journeys in 30 consecutive days from the first validation, so it could be useful for families who only want to take one or two journeys on the metro. Cost: €10.70 for 1 zone.

I hope this has helped you to decide if the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is worth it for your trip to Barcelona.  If you love visiting museums then the Barcelona Card could be a better option for you, or if you think you’ll only take a few journeys on public transport then you can just get the basic transport tickets either in a 10 journey ticket or as and when you need it.

Happy travels!

Best time to visit Barcelona

The best time to visit Barcelona is between spring and early summer. Summer is best avoided because of the high temperatures, unless you want to adopt the local rhythm by taking a siesta between 2 and 6 pm to escape the sweltering heat. September and October also offer pleasant conditions, although the climate can be changeable, with possible precipitation. In winter, city life calms down and temperatures remain mild, but it can be quite cold, sometimes prickly. To prepare for your stay, take a look at our weather forecasts .
