My first Grizzly Bear performance I rather caught by chance. While on a walk through New York neighbourhoods I stumbled into a park hosting the Jelly NYC pool parties. The place set by the waterfront with Manhattan's skyline in the back was beautiful on its own. Discovering that not only Beach House but also Grizzly Bear were about to perform for free left me with no other choice but to stay. I'd soon after witness a murmur go through the crowd, smartphones were hauled out and evidence was taken. Later via twitter I figured Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Solange had all shown up to watch the show, too.
Beach House's dreamy pop sounds were so chilled, floating on the heat waves. It was a dream come true. But yet not even perfect enough for Grizzly Bear were to follow. You think the show was only great because it was outdoors with the skyline in the background, dragonflies flying along and a soft gentle breathe blowing? Partly correct, I'd say. It was indeed a magical setting but the music aided the impression. Victoria from Beach House would join Grizzly Bear for a beautiful collaboration. And I am sure the magic conveys in clubs and overseas as well as magic tricks work in the dark and for outdoor kid's parties. It's not the magical setting but the magic itself. Go catch Grizzly Bear if you want to catch a part of the dream.

i saw grizzly bear in orlando, fl at the house of blues. wow. excellent live band, you couldn't actually ask for more. surreal quality - it bordered on a religious experience. ed droste has a wondrous voice and delivered one perfect note right after the other.
daniel rossen is the real deal, so glad i was able to watch him live. for our show daniel controlled the tempo, wasting no time between songs as he deftly switched between guitars and a keyboard.
chris taylor & chris bear were a pleasure to experience, this band is so beyond perfect. taylor was chatty & shared anecdotes, what a guy! bear was friendly, always courteous. overall an amazing band - unbelievable.
i cannot emphasize enough how fantastic they were live. house of blues was the perfect setting, i was right up to the stage. please do not hesitate to see them live! they are absolute professionals, they started on time & didn't waste time with tangential rants.
they played older songs very dear to long time fans but didn't neglect crowd favorites. i will do my best to see them as many times as i can.
i saw grizzly bear again in nashville on 09/08 at marathon music works with scott gilmore opening. gilmore was a little quiet, but very talented and i really liked his set.
grizzly bear were phenomenal as always. the only issue was the venue itself. unlike the house of blues, which was built for music, marathon music is basically a warehouse.
it just wasn't that great of a venue, but the show was great regardless! the stage was kind weird so they couldn't really unleash their light show either. but like i said, the venue didn't succeed in holding them back.
i know that they didn't play fine for now when they toured shields and i am really glad they opted to include it this time around. i'll never tire of hearing it, no matter what.
my favorite cut from painted ruins is three rings, which is kind of an almost religious experience? i can't stress enough how much grizzly bear should be seen live, their records really don't do them justice.
I recently saw Grizzly Bear with Spoon at the PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hands down, this was the best show I've ever seen. I was an avid listener to their albums, but not one who would typically go see a band like this live. The show was a auditory experience that will sit in my mind for a long time to come. These are some of the most talented musicians and true masters of their instruments. The energy and visual performance was very telling of the band's love of performing and audience loyalty. I would absolutely recommend seeing Grizzly Bear live.
A fantastic venue for them--sound really traveled well. Their stage show was also very beautiful and dynamic. Lots of responsive lights and an amazing netting backdrop. They had an amazing setlist:
While You Wait for the Others
Three Rings
Sleeping Ute
Ready, Able
Sun in Your Eyes
Mourning Sound
Four Cypresses
Losing All Sense
I might be missing one or two, but it was a fantastic show. They looked like they were enjoying themselves and sounded great. Can't wait to see them again.
Another amazing performance from one of the best bands of this generation. Perfectly tuned tapestries of harmonies abounded. They played all the hits, sadly leaving out a few of my favorites (where was cheerleader? Little brother??), but all sounded even better than their meticulously produced albums. They still kill it after all these years
The show was brilliant! Their stage performance has increased since their last show in Paradiso. The quality of sound, voices and instruments was superb. The playlist adventurous, and most of all, they showed their best at the very end of the show.
Great concert. I wasn't familiar at all with the first few songs but then the band started hitting my playlist. They were really cool. Very tight band, they really have honed their craft.I'll go and see them whenever they come through San Fran.
Tivolivredenburg 2017
The first half of the concert the sound was mediocre at best. Soundman must have been drunk of stoned I guess. Allmost left. Luckily the second half it grately improved so we could enjoy the band.
Wonderful show by Grizzly Bear at the Brixton Academy last night. Their music is an unprecedented collection of mesmeric tenderness, noise, jazz and vast soundscapes. A truly joyous secular experience.

Words from our customers
“5* + trip, this fulfilled every wish my wife and I ever had in seeing Grizzly Bears in the wild in their natural habitats. Incredible and worth every penny, a bucket list dream come true. Seeing the Humpback Whales, Golden and Bald Eagles were unexpected bonuses. Tyler and the team were knowledgeable, excellent guides and hosts, we cannot recommend this more highly. ”
This was our second Grizzly Bear Tour but our first with this company and the best tour so far!! Our guides, Jim and Pat were extremely knowledgeable and so helpful and organized! We had 2 friends from England with us and we all thoroughly enjoyed every moment! The grizzlies we saw were amazing and the icing on the cake were the humpback whales we saw on the way home!! Hopefully we will get to take another tour with this company!
Awesome trip! Our tour guide, Damian, was excellent and his passion for the wild life was really showing. He provided great anecdotes and cool stories – I’ll definitely recommend everyone to go!

“TRIP OF A LIFETIME"
"Having always wanted to see wild grizzlies safely, I researched many operations up the coast of BC, but the Khutzeymateen Wilderness Lodge fit me best - small group tours, ease of travel from Vancouver, no fitness requirement and staying in a remote (spotlessly clean) wilderness floating lodge with only wild neighbours. As a somewhat shy senior, I need not have worried about fitting in. The Khutzeymateen team could not have been more welcoming and our mixed little group of couples and solos, pros and amateur bear watchers quickly became buddies. You will never feel unsafe with Jamie and his team of guides who, between exploratory trips, joined us for delicious hearty meals, sharing stories and much laughter. This trip is all about the bears, so if you love bears, don’t let anything stop you from this unique experience. Far better to spend your travel $ on a short unforgettable experience than hit the tourism mainstream of museums, beaches, and crowds."

First Grizzly Bear of 2022 Sighted in the Tetons
It’s the middle of March, and along with the longer days and warmer temps come other fun things…like the first grizzly bears emerging from hibernation. This past weekend, on March 13, Grand Teton National Park officials reported the first grizzly bear sighting of 2022. The middle of March is a typical time for adult male grizzly bears to emerge from hibernation, while females typically wait until April or even May to see the light of day.
With bear season upon us, it’s important to remember some basic bear safety tips. GTNP superintendent Chip Jenkins reminds us to secure any attractants like food or garbage both in our homes and at any campsites we may use this season. Keep all food and garbage inside bear-resistant containers, secure livestock feed, pet food, compost, beehives, and bird feeders. When traveling in the backcountry, especially while accessing spring ski lines, always carry bear spray and know how to use it. Make lots of noise, be alert for bears and signs of their activity, and do not run (back away slowly) if you do encounter a furry friend.

Our Top 5 Grizzly Bear Encounters in 2022
- February 2, 2023
2022 was an outstanding season for wildlife tours in Campbell River, BC. We were especially blown away with our Grizzly Bear Expeditions in the fall. From the late August until mid October, we travelled deep into Bute Inlet daily in search of the magnificent grizzly bear. And we were not disappointed. Here’s our top 5 grizzly bear encounters from our 2022 season:
5. This stare-down on the road
After viewing bears at one viewing tower, we loaded into the bus and were headed for another spot. When we pulled onto the road, this big male was standing there, staring down the bus. Our staff member Andy Scheffler got this shot through the bus window before he meandered off into the forest.
4. This Gull diving for salmon eggs
Okay… so this one isn’t a grizzly bear. But it’s so fascinating watching the gulls diving for salmon eggs in the riverbed! All you can hear while watching grizzlies on the Orford River is the sound of rushing water, crickets, and the cries of gulls who are feasting on the salmon eggs. This perfectly timed photo by Andy Scheffler is one of our favourites…. *DIP*
3. This little cub getting swept away from its mum
This mama grizzly started fishing in the river and successfully caught a salmon. Her little cub was trying to follow her, but the river was too strong and swept it away from her. The little cub seemingly got spooked and high-tailed it for the other side of the river, with mum chasing after it, salmon in mouth.
Watch until the end to see it climb over the slippery logs and jump into the water! You can hear our staff members Paul and Shannon quietly cheering the little cub on… “go little buddy!”.
2. This ultimate display of submission
This grizzly mum of 3 lay down and let the superior mum of 1 pass by. It’s always incredible to see behaviours like this! Photo by our guest Tony Austin .
1. This close encounter
Now this encounter takes the cake. This grizzly mum and her yearling cub were fishing in the river right below the viewing tower. Once they successfully caught a salmon, they ambled up the bank of the river and began eating it only about 10 feet away from the viewing tower! After 10 minutes of eating the salmon, they moved on and started eating grasses to clean the fish bones out of their teeth.
Everyone sporting a telephoto lens didn’t have much choice but to put their cameras down and enjoy the moment. Close encounters like this certainly don’t happen very often!
Join us on our Grizzly Bear Expedition this year and encounter the magnificent grizzly bear in its natural habitat! Book online or contact us today.

Grizzly Bear Tour
Our grizzly bear tours in the world renowned Khutzeymateen Valley provide a chance to see these legendary giants in their natural environment. From mothers and cubs feeding in the abundant intertidal zone, to large boars prowling the water’s edge in search of food and potential mates, there is no better place to view bears than in their natural environment.
Remote and pristine, the Khutzeymateen was protected in an agreement with the B.C. Government and Tsimshian First Nation in 1994, and is largely regarded as the densest natural grizzly bear habitat in North America.
From the open waters of Chatham Sound to the rugged coastal mountain valley, we provide a safe, exhilarating wilderness experience, without altering the natural behaviour of these creatures. Stellar sea lions, harbour seals, eagles, blue herons and sea otters may also make an appearance. This 7-8 hour tour runs from mid-May to the end July, light lunch included.

One of the largest concentrations of Grizzly Bears in BC!
To view our promotional video For pricing and a copy of our digital brocure please fill out an inquiry form
Glendale Cove in Knight Inlet is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly (brown) bears in British Columbia, Canada. It is not uncommon for up to 40 bears to be within a few miles of our wilderness lodge during the peak fall season when the salmon are running up the Glendale River.
And while the grizzly bears are abundant in the fall, it is not the only season that grizzlies frequent the area around the lodge. Starting in April, both black and grizzly bears begin emerging from hibernation and head to the cove and the estuary to feed on the succulent new spring growth.
Even in mid-summer, when some of the bears have moved into the surrounding timber clearings to feast on berries, we see several bears each day as they move in and around the estuary and along the logging roads.
Spring Grizzly Bear watching tours by boat
The spring season is highlighted by the presence of up to 15 different grizzly bears and 5 different black bears, feeding on sedge grasses, mussels and barnacles along the cove's shoreline and in the estuary. Fresh from hibernation, this season offers a wonderful opportunity to see newborn cubs as they first venture out with their mother into the natural world.
Our spring viewing is done from boats allowing you to get remarkably close to some of these wonderful animals.Seeing them at eye level without disturbing them is a powerful experience. The spring season offers some of the year's best photographic opportunities, with the grizzly bears moving about in a lush green environment with spectacular backdrops.
Summer Grizzly Bear watching tours on land & sea
Our early summer program continues on the water as well, but moves to the logging roads whenever the opportunity to view bears in this area arises. This season often has the best weather and is the most relaxing, offering you the chance to view the bears from a small group (the summer program also offers some of the year's best whale watching opportunities) .
Spectacular Fall Grizzly Bear watching as they fish for spawning Salmon
Our fall season begins August 25 when we go to our viewing stands, as pink salmon begin surging their way up the Inlet into the Glendale River, attracting dozens of grizzlies who converge on the spawning channels to fatten their already burgeoning bodies in preparation for the coming winter.
The spectacle is as incredible as it sounds and has to be experienced in person to really appreciate it. Guests embark on their adventure from the lodge, traveling across the cove by boat and then riding a small bus along an old-time logging road through lush northern rain forest to the spawning channels. It is not uncommon to see 10-15 bears on the river, channels and estuary at a time.
Fall viewing does require that guests have the ability to walk on an uneven rocky shoreline, that can at times be slippery and or muddy, for distances of up to 200 meters. This walk is to transfer from the boat to the bus that takes you to the stands as described above.
Photographic opportunities abound as 3 different viewing platforms, in 2 different areas, have been specially constructed to provide a safe and comfortable viewing base to work from.

5 Days, 4 Nights. Explore pristine waters and wilderness areas to see Orcas (“killer whales”) and grizzly bears off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. This self-guided wildlife tour is designed to provide you with authentic wildlife and cultural experiences while staying on a remote island in the Northern Gulf Islands. This area sports sheltered waters and plentiful land and marine life, including the largest population of orcas in western North America. At the end of the Strait lies Knight Inlet, home to a thriving population of grizzly bears.
During the course of your three full days on Cormorant Island, one day will be occupied by whale watching and another day will focus on a grizzly bear viewing tour. We’ve set aside a third day to explore the Village of Alert Bay (pop. 1,200), one of the few remaining authentic coastal communities on the west coast of British Columbia. Day 1 and 5 are occupied by return transportation to Alert Bay from Vancouver or Victoria (included).
You’ll be treated with a high level of service at the waterfront inn and will also be afforded time to explore the colourful village that is Alert Bay. Overlooking Johnstone Strait, the log lodge offers panoramic views of sunsets, mountains, local marine traffic and sometimes pods of orcas. A large common room and sundeck are favourite places for guests to gather, converse and dine. From the lodge, Alert Bay Village is two kilometers along the ocean-front road. On the way, you’ll pass the ‘Namgis Burial Grounds. From the Village the U’mista Cultural Centre, Big Tree Trail and Ecological Gardens are short walks away.
Restrictions on our wildlife excursions include those 8 years of age or younger and women in their final tri-semester. Days 2,3,4 and interchangeable and activities such as the bear watching can be changed right up to the night before the tour due to weather, tour operator logistics and other unseen circumstances.
After making your way to Vancouver International Airport, head to the South Terminal and check in at Pacific Coastal Air for your flight. Your 70 minute flight crosses Vancouver Island’s Inside Passage and lands at Port Hardy, near the Island’s north tip. At Port Hardy Airport, a taxi will be waiting to escort you to Port McNeill. Here you’ll board a coastal ferry as a foot passenger for a 35 minute voyage to Alert Bay, an island commuity with a thriving First Nations culture (please call 250.974.2410 to let us know what ferry you’re on). A lodge employee will meet you at the ferry terminal and escort you to the lodge. Please advise the manager what time you would like to take dinner.
Today is yours at leisure to explore the village of Alert Bay. After breakfast, the lodge manager will provide you with a map highlighting popular attractions on the 5 km long Cormorant Island and tickets to U’Mista Cultural Centre. Hiking trails encircle the island, there are beautiful ocean views from nearly every home, and the eclectic, small-town feel make Alert Bay a jewel for year-round residents, vacation home owners and visitors.
We depart at 6:45 am from Alert Bay for a full day on the water to seek out grizzly bears in their natural habitat. Our destination is Knight Inlet, a two hour ride by covered boat into Johnstone Strait. Becoming famous for its population of Grizzly bears, Knight Inlet a long and deep glacier-carved fjord surrounded by snow-capped mountains and steep-sided, forested cliffs. Here we drift, paddle and motor quietly around an estuary, looking to spot grizzly bears as they feed on the sedges and grasses at high tide. Low tide brings more bears out, and we may see them turn over large boulders in their search for crabs, isopods and beach barnacles. On some tides we transfer to our flat bottomed skiff to get into the shallows. Please bring your binoculars and camera! Lunch is included.
It’s time explore Johnstone Strait the Broughton Archipelago for whales and dolphins, areas home to some of the most spectacular marine wildlife viewing in Canada. On this excursion, you’ll also be able to explore the village of Telegraph Cove, once the northern terminus for the telegraph line from Campbell River and now a launch point for eco-tourism.
After breakfast we call your taxi and get you on the right ferry to Port McNeill. Your up-Island journey continues when you’re picked up by taxi at the Port McNeill Ferry Terminal and escorted to Port Hardy Airport. Here, you catch an afternoon scheduled flight to Vancouver, BC.

We recommend a daypack for your water bottle, camera, medication, binoculars and raingear. Please dress using the “layer method” – waterproof / windproof jacket on top, with a fleece liner over your shirt. Running shoes or hiking boots should have good grip soles. And don’t forget your Tilly!
Alert Bay has a population of about 1,200 comprised of the Village of Alert Bay, the ‘Namgis First Nation and Whe-la-la-u and Area Council. The island is accessible by a 35 minute ferry ride which departs six times as day from Port McNeill.
The natural beauty of the island has not been altered by large developments or crowds. Travellers can sea kayak, take a whale watching tour, explore the Island’s hiking trails, and rarely see other tourists. Most beaches are accessible by foot. The world-renowned Robson Bight Ecological Reserve, a favoured rubbing beach for killer whales, is just 30 minutes away by boat. Alert Bay is an ideal place to unwind and enjoy a place that appears to have stood still for half a century.
Check in time is 3:00 pm and check out is 11:00 am. If you’d like to check in a little earlier, please call our managers at 250.974.2410.
Restaurants include the Bayside Grill, Gordies Restaurant, Duchess Bannock and Desserts and the Shop Rite Deli. Alert Bay Lodge’s waterfront restaurant accepts seatings by reservation.

Vodka Museum Tour with transport (excursion only)
Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other
Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.
Moscow Tours centering on Russian History
Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.
Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
What is the best time to visit moscow.
Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide
How many days are enough in Moscow?
If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.
Do they speak English in Moscow?
As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.
Is it safe to travel to Moscow?
It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. For more information, read our guide about staying safe in Russia .
