The MeiPing Zipper Scarf hits the top spot for us for a number of reasons. First off, the Infinity Scarf is a very stylish number! Available in three colors – a zigzag blue stripe, similar purple stripe, and plain black – it really doesn’t look out of place as a fashion accessory, whether you’re a guy or a gal. What’s more, there’s a brilliantly hidden zipper pocket, large enough for a passport and smartphone.

The natural folds of the fabric make the pocket invisible and anything you slip inside won’t look bulky or obvious at all. Isn’t a travel scarf a super awesome way to hide money when traveling? Then there’s its very attractive price point, which means getting hold of a MeiPing Zipper Scarf isn’t going to break the bank or affect your vacation plans!

Trtl Pillow

Available for both adults and children thanks to a dedicated child-friendly size, the Trtl Pillow has rightly been getting rave reviews for some time now. Taking the idea of a travel scarf to new heights, the Trtl Pillow is a soft, scarf-like construction that wraps around your neck to keep your head up while sleeping on trains, planes, and other forms of transport. It manages to support your head, preventing a cricked neck, because of a cleverly hidden internal support, which is the only thing that limits its packability. However, it can also be hung from your bag without issue, weighs just half a pound, and is machine washable too. How good’s that!

The Stylesilove Winter Plaid Infinity Scarf is, like all the best travel scarves, lightweight, so won’t feel like a burden either when you’re wearing it, or when you’re carrying it! It’s also incredibly soft to the touch and durable thanks to its polyester construction and cosy plaid design. As a looped infinity scarf, it’s very difficult for anyone to snatch from around your neck, making the hidden passport pocket all the more secure a place to hide your valuables while enjoying the sights your destination has to offer. It has a great price too, and though the advertising suggests this is one for the ladies, we reckon it wouldn’t look out of place on the shoulders of a fashionable dude either!

  • Designed primarily with women in mind
  • Loop design might mess up carefully made hair
  • Not enough protection for winter breaks

Sealen Travel Scarf

Sealen Travel Scarf

While most of the travel scarves we’ve found are made from lighter materials intended for use over the warmer months of the year, the Sealen Travel Scarf is one of just a handful made from weightier materials specifically designed to keep you warm in the winter months. It is made with 100% cotton, making the infinity loop design breathable despite its extra warmth, but is still surprisingly lightweight despite this additional thickness. Needless to say perhaps, there’s also a hidden valuables pocket hidden within the looping structure, so even during the colder months, you don’t have to head out with a bag if you want to go light.

  • Made for winter
  • 100% cotton
  • Hidden valuables pocket
  • A little heavy for summer use
  • Cannot be machine washed
  • Limited color choices

Is the Sealen Travel Scarf for me?

Need a little more warmth than the standard travel scarves? Then the Sealen Travel Scarf is the travel scarf for you! While its color range is limited to just five options at present, its overall design more than makes up for it!

travel scarf pouch

Now, you  could spend a fat chunk of $$$ on the WRONG present for someone. Wrong size hiking boots, wrong fit backpack, wrong shape sleeping bag… As any adventurer will tell you, gear is a personal choice.

So give the adventurer in your life the gift of convenience: buy them an REI Co-op gift card!  REI is The Broke Backpacker’s retailer of choice for ALL things outdoors, and an REI gift card is the perfect present you can buy from them. And then you won’t have to keep the receipt. 😉

You’ve decided on a travel scarf as a way of keeping your valuables safe without the need for a bag or money belt – great! But how do you know which of the many travel scarves now on the market is the best one for you?

Destination

A good place to start is to think about when and where you plan to use your newly purchased travel scarf. If, like most, you’re aim is to use the travel scarf as a spring/summer accessory, providing a little protection from the sun and evening chills, then you’ll want to opt for one of the lighter styles. The great news here is that the majority of travel scarves fall into this bracket. If you’re heading to cooler climes during the winter, you’ll probably be looking for a travel scarf with a heavier fabric.

Then think about your own personal style. If you end up picking a travel scarf that doesn’t match your personality or go with the majority of your clothes, you’re likely to leave it unused at home! Worse still, you might carry it around the world with you, but never want to put it on! This is possibly more important for male travelers, as many travel scarves appear to be aimed at the women’s market, and some can seem a little feminine for some tastes (both male and female). If this is you – keep an eye out for unisex options!

Remember also to think carefully about what exactly you want your travel scarf for. Is it to use as a shawl or wrap if it gets chilly, as a sleep aid on flights and other forms of transport, or as a hands-free means of keeping valuables close at hand? Your thoughts on this question will help you narrow your search, while knowing exactly what you plan to store in the hidden pocket (if that’s the sort of travel scarf you’re after) will ensure you also end up purchasing one that fits everything in!

Finally, there’s pricing. Everyone has a budget, and as you’ll see from our lowdown of the best travel scarves there are a wide range of price tags associated with this accessory. That, of course, means that there’s probably a travel scarf out there that will meet your budgetary requirements, whether you’re a hard-up vagabond, or someone looking for extras (such as RFID protection), or someone who doesn’t mind splashing the cash for the perfect travel scarf for you!

Still have some questions? No problem! We’ve listed and answered the most commonly asked questions below. Here’s what people usually want to know:

Love this! Blanket scarves and turkish towels can be used in similar ways – use them as scarves, blankets and even a pillow or lumbar support in a pinch. The turkish towel can obviously be used as a towel as well. Very versatile and help keep packing to a minimum!

My children gave me a black J Crew travel cashmere wrap for Mother’s Day. I am trying to decide if I should bring that or a black cashmere cardigan that I also have on a trip to Europe this December. Your thoughts?

24 Best Travel Scarves for Women

Last updated: December 5, 2023 - Written by Jessica Norah 14 Comments

A scarf is a perfect travel accessory because of its versatility. A scarf can be worn to keep you warm, protect you from the sun, or cover you for modesty. It can also make a fashion statement and help dress up an outfit.

Scarves also travel well. Most scarves are lightweight enough to easily fit into your luggage, purse, or backpack without taking up too much room.

I don’t wear a scarf every day, but I always have at least one in my suitcase when traveling. In the winter, I use them to keep warm and stay cozy. In warm climates, I use them for keeping sun off my neck and shoulders and for adding a bit of flair to my wardrobe. A travel scarf can also be used as a blanket on a long-haul flight, as a shawl on a chilly beach, or as a head covering at a religious site.

Since so many women choose a scarf for traveling, we wanted to share some tips for finding the best travel scarf for you.

First we’ll go over some information that might be helpful to consider when choosing a scarf for travel. This includes warmth, size, fabric type, and versatility. Then we review a variety of different travel scarves that range across budgets and styles.

8 Things to Consider when Purchasing a Scarf for Travel

If you are not sure what kind of scarf you want, there are a number of factors to can consider when choosing a scarf for travel. These include the size, thickness, fabric, washability, and price of the scarf. It is also important to consider how versatile the scarf would be and how often you’ll use it while you are traveling.

The guide below includes all the important factors to consider when choosing the perfect travel scarf for you.

Weight & Thickness

This could be the most important point to consider when looking into buying a scarf for travel, as it will greatly depend on the time of year you plan to travel and the level of warmth you wish to achieve. The overall thickness of the scarf will help determine how warm it is, so it is important to think about when and where you want to use it.

Lightweight travel scarves are much better for the spring and summer months, during the warm weather, while heavyweight scarves are better for cold weather and winter destinations.

If you are looking for a scarf for travel that will work well year round, we recommend taking a look at lightweight and medium weight scarves.

Take into consideration that lighter scarves can be easier to stuff in a day bag or purse, whereas it is going to be more difficult to stuff a heavy wool pashmina into your day bag.

There are many different types of fabric to choose from when it comes to purchasing a travel scarf. Some of the common fabrics used to manufacture scarves include wool, cotton, acrylic, viscose, polyester, cashmere, and silk. Each fabric type has its pros and cons, and some are better for different seasons.

A scarf is going to wrapped around your neck and touching your skin, so if you have sensitive skin you might want to look for something made of a natural fabric. These include cotton, linen, cashmere, and silk. Although note that even natural fabrics, like wool, can cause irritation.

For people with skin conditions like eczema (like myself), certain fabrics, particularly wool and polyester, can be irritating. Cotton and silk are often recommended for those with really sensitive skin or skin conditions.

But there are a number of synthetic, semi-synthetic, and blend options out there. These are often made to imitate the look and feel of natural fabrics such as wool or silk. Some fabrics like modal and viscose are manufactured from natural materials. These can still make great scarves and are often sold at a much lower price point than those made of natural fabrics.

If you are looking for a vegan-friendly scarf, you have both natural and synthetic fabric options. These include cotton, polyester, wood-based fibers (modal, viscose, lyocell, rayon, bamboo), linen, and acrylic fabrics. You’ll just want to also check that any dyes used are also vegan (typically yes)

Some scarves may be described as being made of “synthetic wool”, “vegetable cashmere”, or “vegan silk”— these aren’t actual fabrics obviously as neither real wool nor silk are vegan, so these descriptors are not very helpful. So be sure to check the label.

Scarf fabrics that are great for keeping you warm and retaining heat include wool, cashmere, fleece (made from polyester), and acrylic fabrics.

For warm weather, you’ll want to look for scarves that have a lighter weave and are not so heavy. Some fabrics that lend themselves well to scarves for spring and summer are those made of cotton, linen, silk, satin, jersey, microfiber, and modal.

All fabrics have their pros and cons, so it is good to think about what type of fabric you’d prefer for a scarf. For example, if you hate wrinkles, you might want to avoid linen and thin cotton scarves, which are more prone to wrinkling.

When it comes to size and dimensions, it’s important to pay attention to both the width and length of the scarf.

Many people shopping for scarves online don’t pay a lot of attention to the posted dimensions of a scarf, so can often be surprised by how wide, thin, or long their scarf is when it arrives. The way it is draped over the model in online photos may not give you the best idea of its dimensions. So best to think about the size dimensions before you buy!

We recommend measuring an existing scarf you already own and love, and compare potential scarves to those dimensions so you have a good idea of what to expect.

Consider if you want a classic rectangular scarf (most styles) or a square one (more common with silk and satin scarves). Or do you prefer an infinity scarf, a scarf made from a loop or circle of fabric that has been sewn together?  How many times do you want to wrap it around your neck?

Do you want to be able to use if for other things like a travel wrap, shawl, hijab, sarong, or blanket, etc. If so, consider what size scarf is going to best suit your needs.

Washability

It is important to consider how you plan to wash your new scarf. Can the travel scarf be machine washed? Is the scarf hand wash or dry clean only?

If you are setting off on longer-term travel, this may be something you may want to especially consider if you plan to do laundry while traveling .

More delicate fabrics such as silk and cashmere can very easily shrink or become damaged without proper care. So be sure to check the care instructions for the scarf before purchase to make sure you can care for it properly.

Country of Origin

One of the many reasons why we love to shop online, is because you instantly have access to shops, designers and suppliers from across the globe, providing products that you may never have had an opportunity to see or buy in person. It can also give you the chance to support smaller stores and artists who are working and creating beautiful products from their own homes.

In some cases, the country of origin can be an indicator of quality but bear in mind that this is not always the case. Just a piece of information to keep in mind as quality control standards can vary a lot.

Also do pay attention from where the item ships, especially if you need to receive it rather quickly, as international orders can take a while to reach certain parts of the world. Customs and tax duties may also apply.

If you want to shop more locally, you can easily find something manufactured in your own country or a nearby country. In the list below we have purposefully included scarves designed and manufactured in a number of countries, including the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, China, Italy, Canada, and many more.

If you are looking for something made in your own country and don’t see one on our list, we recommend shopping at local stores or do a search here on Etsy for online shops selling handmade scarves in your country.

If you are looking for gifts for travelers , we have a guide to travel gifts made in the USA and a guide to travel gifts made in the UK .

Price is going to likely be a major deciding factor in what scarf you choose. We have included a range of scarves in this list to suit your budget. We have even arranged them in terms of price from the least expensive to the most expensive.

We start with scarves priced at around USD $10 and end with scarves priced at over USD $300, with the majority of our choices being under $50. So you are sure to find something that works for you.

The good news is you don’t need to spend a lot to get a good travel scarf. The trick is to find the best quality scarf that fits your needs within your budget. That’s why we’ve included so many different options for you to explore below.

Be aware that there are a lot of scarves with fake reviews on Amazon and other online marketplaces, including many of those that are “top-rated”. If you are not sure about a particular item, copy the URL address of the product and check it here on FakeSpot. It can help you determine if there are likely fake or deceptive reviews being used by the company or seller in question.

Versatility

The best travel scarf is versatile and will work across a number of situations. Consider whether or not the scarf can be used at different times of the day, in different climates, and for different purposes.

Can the scarf work well for day time and evening? Will it work for casual and more formal situations? Will it work well with most of your travel clothing?

If you are looking for something that will work well with most of your wardrobe, you might consider something in a solid neutral color like black, tan, gray, ivory, or navy.

Can it be worn for cold weather? Warm weather? Will it work for most of the places you regularly travel? I’d personally recommend having one great scarf that works well in warm and hot weather and one that works well for you in cool and cold weather situations.

Some scarves designed for travel may have extra features like a hidden pocket to store valuables or a pouch to store earbuds. Are these features you want in a scarf or are they things you want to avoid?

Can it be worn in different ways other than just around your neck as a scarf? For example, a versatile scarf might also work as a travel wrap, shawl, blanket, hijab, head scarf, poncho, sarong, etc.

For those looking for more oversized scarves that can also be used as wraps or shawls, we recommend also checking out our guide to travel wraps .

One scarf can’t work in every situation, but if you can get one that will accompany you on most of your travels, then you are getting more bang for your buck.

hidden pocket travel scarf best travel scarves for traveling

Practicality

Here’s where you need to be honest with yourself when purchasing a travel scarf. You may have found a beautiful scarf that you love, but is it practical?

For example, I have a beautiful little silk printed scarf I purchased many years ago at a vintage store. I love the look of it, but I almost never wear it. It is too small and lightweight to provide warmth (decorative only), it wrinkles easily, and the pattern and colors make it difficult to coordinate well with a lot of my clothing.

Some questions you might want to ask yourself:

Does it fit in your day bag easily? Will you wear it a lot? Does it work in more than one season or climate? Does it work well with the clothes you normally travel with? Will you wear it at home, work, and travel? Is it durable? Is it easy to clean?

If you find yourself answering no to a lot of the above, it may not be the best travel scarf for you.

This eye-catching fringed scarf adds a pop of color to any outfit. Great budget-friendly way to dress up a plain travel outfit.

Note that these are triangular-shaped like a shawl and are much wider in the middle and thinner at the ends. They are 53 inches in length and 13 inches in width (at widest point), or 134 cm in length by 33 inches in width (at widest point).

They are relatively short and meant to be wrapped around the neck a time or two. Some styles are thin material (almost sheer) with lace and fringe trim and others are fully lace with fringe trim. Lightweight and take up little room in luggage. It is delicate and can snag easily.

They come in a large range of colors and a few different styles. These are designed for decoration, not warmth, so are best for warm weather destinations although they can be worn year round. It could also be used for a kerchief, veil, or head scarf.

They are made in China and are made of polyester. Hand wash only.

I have four of these type of scarves in different colors that I purchased in Europe. They are generally cheaply made from polyester, and are designed for fashion not warmth. But I do like them for adding a bit of texture and color to plain outfits in warmer weather.

The wrap measures 76 inches X 27 inches (193 cm X 68 cm). It comes in a wide array of solid colors and has tassels along the edges.

It is made in China and reports to be a blend of acrylic, wool, and cashmere. Given the price, expect it to be made mostly acrylic. Hand wash only.

4. Melifluous Paisley Scarf

These soft colorful paisley scarves are perfect for adding a pop of color around your neck in cooler destinations.

best scarfs for travel scarf

The scarves come in a variety of colorful paisley prints. They are designed to provide warmth and the weight and colors are well-suited to autumn and winter and cooler weather destinations.

The scarves are made from 100% bamboo viscose. They are designed in Spain and manufactured in China. Hand wash or delicate machine wash.

5. Turtle Fur Cold Weather Double-layered Neck Gaiter

If you are headed to a cold weather destination and plan to spend a lot of time outdoors, you may want to consider a Turtle Fur neck warmer. This isn’t really a scarf, but it may be more useful than a scarf for those doing more active winter travel.

Designed in 1982, this classic neck warmer is designed to provide warmth, comfort, and wear. It is famous for being the #1 best-selling fleece neck warmer in the world.

travel scarf pouch

Unlike a traditional scarf, you don’t wrap it, the ends are sewn together and you just slip it over your head. It fits like a turtle neck sweater around the neck area and you can just keep it down at the neck or it can also be used to also cover the chin and mouth area. It is made of two double layers of fleece that help trap in the heat.

It is a popular winter accessory for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or just taking a stroll when the temperatures start to drop. Just note that if you don’t like the feeling of a turtle neck or neck gaiter, this might not be the product for you.

It is 100% acrylic and their ‘one size fits all’ Turtle Fur measures 9 5/8 inches (24.45 cm) x 9 5/8 inches (24.45 cm) when laid flat. Turtle Fur is an American company based in Vermont and this product is currently made in Mexico.

It is easy to take care of as it can be machine washed at cold or lukewarm temperatures and can be tumble dried. But I’d be as gentle with the washing and drying as possible to keep it from piling.

6. Soak Couture Plaid Infinity Scarf

These plaid infinity scarves are made with soft, high-quality flannel, to keep you warm and stylish on your travels. With thick and cozy material that wraps around your neck, it would be ideal for autumn and winter weather.

best travel scarf for women travel scarves

The plaid flannel scarf is made entirely by hand and measures approximately 57 inches X 10 inches (144 cm X 25 cm) and is 100% flannel cotton. The fabric is designed to become softer as you wear and wash it. It is recommended that scarves are hand washed with gentle laundry soap and then laid flat to dry.

These scarves are handmade by shop owner Julie in Montreal in Canada, and patterns may change each season.

Soak Couture also offers a number of other infinity scarves as well in addition to the plaid ones, and there are also a large number of whimsical print cotton scarves as well. Some of these would be well suited to spring and summer travel as well.

7. Literati Jules Verne Literary Infinity Scarf

This literary inspired infinity scarf was made with book lovers in mind and is a real conversation starter. But also great for those who love travel as Verne is of course known for his classic travel and adventure novels, including Around the World in 80 Days , Journey to the Center of the Earth , and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea .

best travel scarfs Jules Verne Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

The scarf is a heather gray color with black print. The quote on this scarf is from Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea and reads:

“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion, it is the Living Infinite.” – Jules Verne.

The infinity scarf is made in Los Angeles, California and is made of a soft heavy rayon-polyester blend jersey fabric. It measures 58”-60” (148-153 cm) inches around and 14”-15” (36-38 cm) inches wide. The scarf also comes with a reusable zippered pouch to store it.

For cleaning, it is recommended that you hand wash the scarf and lay flat to dry.

Literati also makes a number of other book and literary-themed scarves, including ones for Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Jane Austen, Sherlock Holmes, and Peter Pan fans.

8. Melifluous Lightweight Silk Scarf

If you are looking for a lightweight silk scarf at a budget-friendly price, this may be the scarf for you. Silk is perfect year-round and these scarves are designed for warmer weather wear.

silk travel scarf

The scarf is versatile in that it would work well in formal situations and add flair in casual ones. It is available in a number of different patterns. It is a generous size so it could also be be used as a lightweight shawl, beach sarong, headscarf, etc.

This lightweight scarf measures 72 inches x 43 inches (182 cm X 110 cm) and is made with 100% natural silk. It is made in China. It can be hand washed or dry cleaned.

This scarf made it on the list because a lot of people are looking for a silk scarf but have a smaller budget. At around $25, this is a good price for a silk scarf. I don’t personally own this one, but just be aware that at this price it is not going to be the best quality silk or printing. But it has good reviews so far which appear to be genuine.

9. Candor and Class Virgin Wool Scarf

This 100% virgin wool scarf is a great accessory for winter travel. If you are looking for a well-priced soft wool scarf, this is one to consider. The wool keeps you warm so is definitely better for cool or cold weather travel.

travel scarfs with hidden pockets Waypoint infinity scarf

This is one way to keep valuables like your passport, IDs, wallet, and cell phone safe while traveling. I personally like it for airports, train stations, and when shopping where I just have a few things to carry and don’t want to have to have a purse or backpack. Great for places where you are concerned about pickpockets and want a fashionable alternative to the hidden neck, belt, and bra pockets.

This loose double wrap infinity scarf sits naturally over your shoulders and measures 22″ wide and 32” long. It is designed to make two loops.

The lined zippered pocket are about 8” wide and 7” deep, making it big enough to stash a few items such as your smartphone, passport, credit card, tickets, lipstick, travel wallet, feminine hygiene products, earbuds, and/or some cash.

Note that to fit the pocket into the scarf, these scarves are designed to be pretty wide so that there is lots of material to accommodate and hide the pocket. So if you don’t like a wide infinity scarf, this might not be for you. Waypoint Goods does now have a new lightweight scarves line which are thinner and more lightweight versions of the original.

The scarves are made of a soft polyester fabric and there are over a dozen colors and designs available. They are manufactured in China, but they are designed, checked for quality, and packaged in the United States.

It is recommended that the scarf is hand washed with a mild detergent and laid flat to dry for best results. It can also be machine washed on delicate if placed in a garment bag and laid flat to dry.

Hi, I’m from Montreal, Canada. Thanks for all your suggestions. I am planning a trip to Corsica in June. I think the best fit would be the Ovcio Featherlight. Unfortunately I missed your discount offer, it will be for another time.:) I already have a cashmere wrap which is very light, but quite thick and bulky. I love the patterns and colors of Dana Xu, but since I am 5’2 “, I am afraid that they will be much too long and that they will be scratchy (I have psoriasis). I was wondering if you know the Bleusalt company, their wraps are made of 95% Beechwood fibers & 5% spandex I would very much appreciate your opinion on this wrap. Thanks in advance and please, do continue to keep us informed and share your suggestions and thoughts..

Sorry that you missed the Ovcio discount code, we ran that for a few months, and it just ended last month. Maybe we will have another one in the future. But yes, if you are looking for a lightweight cashmere scarf (or wrap) that one is very lightweight. Great for any time of the year and not bulky at all. But it is delicate and does require gentle hand washing, but if you already have cashmere products, the care probably isn’t an issue for you.

The Dana Xu is pure wool so if you have psoriasis, I would maybe shy away from pure wool products if you have had skin sensitivities to wool in the past as it can be a bit irritating to sensitive skin. I have eczema and can wear some wool items, whereas others can cause a rash, but I generally try to get merino wool or cashmere if going directly against the skin. Although this is fairly lightweight for wool, if you are looking for something less bulky, this is probably not the right one for you as it is a big wrap in terms of dimensions.

I am not familiar with the Bleusalt company or their products. It looks like their scarves and wraps are made of “beechwood fibers” which is a type of lyocell or rayon (in this case under the brand name Tencel it seems). So in terms of fabric and feel, I think they’d be very similar to the Happyluxe travel wraps which are 95% MicroModal (a similar type of cellulose fiber) and 5% Spandex.

They are both made in USA and I suspect, like the Happyluxe, that it is possible to machine wash the Bleusalt products, although I could not see item care instructions on their website. Also did not see exact size dimensions, just that they come in 1 yard, 2 yard, and 3 yard sizes, so I guess maybe they are square (so the 1 yard scarf is 3 feet by 3 feet?).

The Happyluxe (and probably the Bleusalt ones which look very similar) are medium weight and pretty easy to travel with and they are also easy care which is nice and much more hard-wearing than cashmere items. But definitely not as lightweight or soft as the featherlight cashmere ones from Ovcio.

Hope that helps and would love to know which scarf you choose and your thoughts!

Hi Jessica, thank you for your quick response and for your opinion which I appreciate very much, given your travel experience. I quite agree with you regarding the Dana Xu. It seems to be made of mixed wools we don’t know the provenance; like you I look for merinos wool if the shawl touches the skin. I found this version in silk It would be a nice colorful alternative for summer and not expansive. But I will also buy the Ovcio!? and I’ll let you know what I think! Thank you again. Good night

February 14, 2020 at 3:37 am

Yes, silk is usually very gentle on the skin and it is a good fabric for hot climates. The only issue I have with silk and that it can be more prone to wrinkling, but I don’t see this as an issue amongst any of the reviews of that particular scarf. It also looks like a generous size if you want to be able to use it as both a scarf and a travel wrap. Lots of colorful patterns. So I think that could be a good fit to what you are looking for.

Another shop you may want to check out is the Artisan Chic scarves . She does hand-dyed scarves and wraps in a variety of fabrics including linen, organic cotton, and silk – and some come in a large size (XL Nomad) that can work as a wrap and many are lightweight, some are sheer. But these are handmade and hand dyed and are more raw and natural, so great if you want a more informal and crinkly look. May not fit what you are looking for now, but she uses a lot of nice fabrics and many have natural dyes which can be better for those with sensitive skin. So maybe a store to keep in mind for the future 😉

Although I am not sure you are still interested in them, I wanted to let you know I found out the Bleusalt scarf and wrap dimensions: The scarf is 36″ X 27″, the 2 yard wrap is 72″ X 42″, and the 3 yard wrap is 108″ X 42″.

Yes, I would love to know what you think of the new scarves and wraps once you receive them. Reviews here by others can really help future readers decide what might be best for them as everyone has different tastes, budgets, and needs.

Best, Jessica

Hi Jessica, thanks a lot for the nice suggestion, I will certain lu look that up. I fond that a lot of sites I checked don’t deliver in Canada. I have to be careful what shawls I fall in love with? I found this company based in Toronto, Kumaris , and this particular one has a blend ok Silk and cashmere, might be interesting. I’ll let you know which one I buy! Thanks again!

February 15, 2020 at 7:18 am

Yes, we have the same issue since I moved to the UK. I didn’t realize how many things are only available in the U.S. or are very expensive to ship outside of North America! At least most companies (and most sellers on Amazon) allow for returns if you buy something you don’t love.

I am not familiar with Kumari’s. I do like that it is an actual store you could go visit, too bad it is not in the same city as you in Canada. The products look nice and they have a lot of options and a large variety of colors and patterns. There is frustratingly not a lot of info about their individual products on their websites though, it looks like their products are made somewhere in Southeast Asia, unclear % of materials (e.g., % of silk, % of cashmere) on those scarves or where it is sourced, and did not see any care instructions. I’m guessing all this is on the product tags, just frustratingly not listed in any of the product descriptions I checked, but probably easy to get from the company.

Best of luck finding some great scarves/wraps, and look forward to hearing what you buy and your thoughts!

I love a scarf. They really can serve so many functions. I got the one with the zipper pocket for both of my girls, and the one who spent a semester in Spain practically wore it out. I always wear a lightweight, pale pink cotton scarf when I travel. It can be folded put behind my lower back for support, or wrapped around my face if the person next to me is coughing. Washability is key for me too. Thanks for sharing these great tips!

February 12, 2020 at 10:07 am

Yes, scarves are so versatile and great for travel. Sounds like the scarves to your daughters were a big hit! Yes, easy care is definitely key for a lot of people who want to just be able to throw it in the washing machine or wash in sink during a trip.

I found this article and the links very helpful. I love traveling with scarves because they are so lightweight for packing and can really make an outfit. I have been wanting one of the scarves with hidden pockets, but have hesitated because they are so expensive. I found one through your links that was only $29. Can’t wait to have it for my upcoming trip to London in May.

This is a really helpful list, thanks for sharing this information. My wife and I travel a lot within our native India and she is thinking about a travel scarf for our next holiday. But isn’t sure it will be comfortable and hold her items well, do you have some thoughts on this?

January 28, 2020 at 2:37 am

I am glad that you have found this helpful. Travel scarves with the hidden pockets can be nice for walking around hands-free or for just storing valuable items like cash, IDs, or passport.

I think it will depend on what type of scarves she enjoys and how much she wants to store in them. All of the travel scarves with the pockets that I am aware of all are infinity scarves, which makes sense, as a traditional scarf are going to be likely to fall off your neck and are less secure. So I think these scarves are best suited for people who like infinity scarves. It also depends on what she wants to keep in the scarf and how heavy and bulky it is. Really heavy or bulking objects are not great for these scarves, they are definitely best for smaller items and more lightweight stuff. Also for traveling in India where it can be pretty hot, I’d definitely go for a more lightweight fabric scarf that is not too heavy or warm.

If your wife wants a specific length, type of fabric, or set of pockets, she can also get them custom made, such as on Etsy or perhaps even locally in India.

Hope that helps! Jessica

A few years ago, I literally bumped into Alexa Chung in the bathroom at Heathrow Airport. Even more than her stunning bone structure and gracious, extremely English apology, I was struck by the immense, cream-colored cable knit scarf wound around her neck; and from then on, I vowed never to embark on a journey without bringing along an immensely cozy scarf of my own. Equal parts security blanket, neck pillow, and accessory, the best travel scarves are made of soft, cuddly fabrics to keep you warm while in transit, though they’re not so bulky that they won’t fit in your carry-on if you choose to remove yours. Versatility is key, too. The ideal travel scarf can be repurposed into a blanket, wrap, or hood — whatever it takes to keep you comfortable in your seat.

Of course, you should also feel inclined to wear your scarf as an accessory when you arrive at your destination, so make sure the one you choose complements your travel capsule wardrobe . Finally, consider the climate at your destination. Beach vacations call for fabrics like viscose or cotton that keep you warm on the flight, but are breathable enough to wear on the ground; for a ski trip, you can opt for an unabashedly cozy scarf , like one made of wool or cashmere.

Complete your comfortable travel outfit with any of the best travel scarves, listed ahead.

This Clever Infinity Scarf With Hidden Pockets For Your Valuables

Zero Grid Infinity Scarf with Hidden Pockets

Thoughtfully designed with both comfort and security in mind, this travel scarf contains two hidden, zippered pockets where you can store valuables like your passport, credit cards, and hotel key. Snaps at both ends allow you to wear it as an infinity scarf, regular scarf, shawl, or makeshift hood, so it’s super versatile, to boot. Amazon reviewers rave about the buttery-soft feel and thick yet breathable knit material that keeps them cozy on the road — and confirm that the pockets are surprisingly roomy and virtually invisible. A+ across the board.

A Classic Pashmina For Warm-Weather Travel

Calvin Klein Pashmina Scarf

A classic pashmina , like this one from Calvin Klein, is the ultimate summer travel scarf, as far as I’m concerned. It’s lightweight and breathable, so it’ll keep you warm but not clammy. Plus, you can easily tuck it into your overstuffed travel bag, and since the viscose material has a naturally rumpled look to it, it won’t look messy if it creases a bit. This silky-soft scarf comes in 11 colors, like the sophisticated slate gray (printed in a tonal logo pattern) pictured above.

A More Affordable Pashmina That’s As Smooth & Soft As Real Cashmere

MaaMgic Large Cashmere Feel Pashmina Shawl

According to its several thousand rave reviews, this fine-knit pashmina looks, feels, and drapes like real cashmere, so no one (including you) would believe it costs less than $15. Plus, the colors are sumptuous and true to the images online, not cheap-looking, so you can feel even more confident about getting one — or two — before your next trip.

A Buttery-Soft Shawl Scarf With A Playful Tassel Trim

Goodthreads Fringe Ruana Wrap Scarf

A punchy plaid print and fringed hem elevate this wrap scarf from a functional layering piece to a bonafide outfit-transformer — it’ll make your standard joggers-and-sneakers travel outfit feel a lot more polished. Of course, it’s incredibly cozy, too. One Amazon shopper wrote that it feels more “plush” in person than it appears to in the images, and another mentioned that it works overtime as a throw blanket tossed across their living room chair. If green isn’t your color, you can choose from eight other colorways, including a black-and-white buffalo plaid and a red tartan that’s perfect for holiday-season travel.

This Versatile Poncho You Can Also Wear As A Scarf

Bruceriver Wool Blended Poncho Wrap

With its discreet arm openings, generous size, and drapey, sweater-like material, this piece can be worn either as a poncho, a scarf, or a wrap; then, when you get to your plane or train seat, you can toss it over your lap as a blanket. A blend of wool, nylon, and acrylic strikes a nice balance between breathable and cozy, so it’ll become a staple in your transitional wardrobe, too, whether you’re at home or in the air. Choose from six elegant colors, like camel and cream.

An Oversized Shawl Wrap That’s Like A Wearable Blanket

Urban CoCo Color Block Shawl Wrap

Some journeys call for a step up from a basic scarf and straight for a glorified blanket, precisely like this piece . It lands in some unspecified location along the poncho/shawl/wrap/scarf/cape/blanket spectrum: There’s a defined neck (cape?), semblance of arm holes (poncho?), and generous drape (blanket?), but the reversible, color-block design offers the illusion of structure and endless styling possibilities. It’s a must for long-haul flights or trips to chilly locations.

A Lightweight Infinity Scarf That Packs Beautifully

Corciova Light Weight Infinity Scarf

This infinity scarf is made of a fluid jersey material, much like an extra-soft T-shirt, so it’s an ideal choice for summer travel. Beyond that, it’s an absolute dream to pack. It folds (or rolls, if you prefer the KonMari packing method) into a relatively compact square that tucks neatly among your things. No matter if you’re not particularly neat about it, though, as it’s clinically incapable of wrinkling. Amazon shoppers confirm that it holds up well in the wash — another important consideration in a travel scarf — so you’ll get great mileage out of this affordable piece.

This Oversized Scarf In A Cozy Plaid Print

American Trends Classic Plaid Large Scarf

Everything about this scarf is peak coziness, from the large-format size (it measures 59-by-59 inches), to the autumnal plaid print, to the fuzzy-soft material that’s basically made for nuzzling against your cheek. The square shape is conducive to repurposing as a blanket, shawl, or wearing as a scarf in several ways. It comes in 26 plaid and tartan prints in varying colorways, so you’re guaranteed to find one that suits your wardrobe.

It’s a go-to for our own Commerce Beauty Editor Adeline Duff , who raves about its supremely sumptuous feel and extra-large size. Though it’s pricey, the 100% cashmere construction is of the very best quality; and since it’s so versatile (you can wear it as a scarf, blanket, or wrap all year long, whether you’re traveling or at home), you’ll get excellent use out of it for years on end.

But if you're anything like me, when embarking on a long haul flight, style usually goes out the window. Sitting in a pair of tight denim jeans and ankle boots during a seven-hour journey in economy? No, thank you. Luckily, there's a solution that won't require you to sacrifice your personal style and will keep you comfy on the airplane. Introducing: The travel wrap. This large, blanket-like scarf can elevate any outfit, and also functions as a cozy swaddle when the in-flight AC feels subarctic.

Wherever your destination, these 12 stylist-approved travel wraps will make the experience getting there all the more comfortable.

Meet the Experts: Nyasia Rudolph is a fashion stylist and creative director based in New York. Jordanna Sharp is a personal shopper and stylist based in New York.

When shopping for a travel wrap, go for cashmere, advises New York-based fashion stylist Nyasia Rudolph. "It's warm, cozy, and always elevated." You really can't go wrong with this best-selling pick from J. Crew. Slightly lighter compared to other brands, it can function as a regular scarf, too, says New York-based personal shopper Jordanna Sharp.

Not only is it 100-percent cashmere (read: it's buttery soft), but the material is also ethically sourced from Mongolia to ensure the welfare of the goats, farmworkers, and the local environment. For an added personal touch, the brand gives you the option to monogram your wrap, too.

Rave Review: "I like how this wrap isn’t overwhelming when tied as a scarf yet is still warm and cozy enough for the movie theater or airplane when unfolded."

This classic (it's in the name, duh) pick from Mersea is perfect for all your traveling needs. Large enough to serve as a blanket and keep you warm during those long flights, yet stylish enough (uh, look at those fringed edges) to still look great even if you're running on two hours of sleep. What's more? This best-seller comes in a matching travel bag for easy storage.

Rave Review: "A must pack on any trip. Fits easily into my bag and keeps me warm and comfy throughout the flights."

"Another cashmere wrap but reasonably priced," Rudolph point out.

At nearly 50-percent off (uh, run, don't walk!), this cashmere travel wrap pick from Bloomingdale's offers luxury without the luxe price tag. Made from premium-quality fibers sourced from local Mongolian vendors, this wrap is uber-soft and the perfect accessory to add to your airport outfit. It's large enough to keep you cozy on the plane, but lightweight enough to wear all year round.

Rave Review: "This wrap is amazing! Very soft cashmere and it came with a great travel bag!"

This pick from Quince is made from a cashmere-silk blend, and it's the perfect lightweight option if you're looking for a wrap that's not too heavy and fits comfortably in your personal travel bag . Available in eight gorgeous colors, this scarf is stylish yet functional.

Rave Review: "Gorgeous color (navy), whisper soft, and so light but perfectly warm."

This travel wrap from White + Warren will take you from the airplane to the office to dinner. While it's on the more expensive size, Sharp still calls it "a good price point for cashmere." Plus, she says this wardrobe staple is a great value, since "the straight cut design makes it versatile and easy to style with lots of closet basics."

Still not convinced? This pick is lightweight and breathable (making it suitable for every season), large enough to be either a scarf or blanket, and comes in 26 (!) colors—a hue for every outfit.

Rave Review: "I read many reviews about this wrap before ordering. I’m going on an international trip and decided to order and it definitely lives up to the hype. I can’t wait to curl up on the flight with this wrap. It’s so soft and cozy. It will add beauty to any outfit."

If cashmere isn't your thing—or in your budget (uh, raises hand)—this Amazon-favorite cotton wrap is a great option. Made from 100-percent organic cotton, its breathable, soft, and let's not forget machine washable. While it's not large enough to serve as a blanket, it is lightweight enough to fit comfortably in your carry-on and wear year-round.

Rave Review: "Love the look and feel of this scarf! It had a perfect balance of being able to keep me warm during colder temperatures, like when it rained or while on an international flight. I also could wear it when the temperature got a little warmer."

Athleta's Pranayama Restore Wrap is best for the active traveler. It's made from a breathable, stretchy, and sustainable fabric that's perfect to comfortably throw on after a workout. And unlike other travel wraps, this one has sleeves, making it easier to move around in. If you're planning to hit the gym or the trail after your 5+ hour flight (uh, you need to stretch your legs somehow), you'll want to add this to cart ASAP.

Rave Review: "This wrap is unbelievably soft. It feels like you are wrapped in butter. It is warm, wears well, and the available colors are gorgeous."

Talk about a wrap! This one is made up of three yards (!) of fabric. Although it's the size of a literal blanket, somehow it's still chic. (It's definitely giving that meme of Lenny Kravitz walking down the streets of New York City with a ginormous brown blanket scarf—IYKYK.) Pair this pick with a matching monochrome outfit for a cozy, yet stylish airport look.

Rave Review: "I absolutely love this wrap! I’ve bought quite a few pieces from Bleusalt now, and it goes with everything. The wrap is so soft and lightweight yet cozy on cool evenings, or as a blanket on an airplane."

This cape—made from 100-percent baby alpaca—is certified to keep you warm in those cold airplane seats. Coming in four luxurious neutral hues, you can feel comfy during your flights (and, er, layovers) without sacrificing aesthetics.

Rave Review: "Lovely cape. Perfect for the plane and then to have as a casual wrap. I have it in black and navy."

This poncho can easily transition from a long haul flight to dinner plans. It's large enough to keep you warm under the brisk AC, but chic enough that it doesn't look like you're wearing a literal blanket. Still not convinced? Three words for you: It has pockets.

Rave Review: "Super soft and it has pockets. A little thin, but still nice."

SPRWMN Cashmere Wrap Scarf

Cashmere Wrap Scarf

While this cashmere wrap is on the pricier end, Sharps says it's certainly worth the investment. It's generously sized, so you can throw it on as a large scarf or cover your body with it like a blanket. Plus, it comes in three gorgeous neutrals, each of which you can pair with a matching sweater from the brand, notes Sharp. It's not a competition, but you'll for sure win the title of "Best Dressed" at the airport.

Alice Walk The Cashmere Wrap

The Cashmere Wrap

This pick from Nantucket-based brand Alice Walk makes the perfect gift (ahem, for you of course). It's 100-percent cashmere, so you can trust it'll feel buttery soft on the skin. Plus, with its delicate fringe and 15 bright hues to choose from, this piece definitely makes a statement.

"I like to add a pop of color to all of my outfits, to stand out wherever I go," says Rudolph. "Alice Walk cashmere wraps come in every color you can imagine. This would be a showstopper in the airport! I immediately gravitated towards the hot pink and orange reversible wrap."

Rave Review: "I love the quality of the wrap. The colors are vibrant to the eye and yet shows an elegance at the same time. It really dresses the outfit. When I wear my wrap I feel special."

What is a travel wrap?

line divider

Simply put, "a travel wrap is a soft, large [piece of] fabric that can be used as a blanket, scarf, head wrap, or shawl when traveling," says Rudolph. It's incredibly versatile and available in a range of sizes and materials, namely cashmere and cotton blends.

What is the best size for a travel wrap?

Ideally, you want the fabric to cover your entire body, or most of it, when using it as a blanket—yet be small enough to function as a shawl and enhance your look without overpowering it, Rudolph notes. She adds that a travel wrap should be about 70 inches long and 30 inches wide.

"Optimum length for a travel wrap would be to your knees," says Sharp. "This way you can wear it long but also have the option to wrap it around your neck without it looking too bulky."

How do I style a travel wrap?

As travel wraps are so simple, yet versatile, you can get really creative with styling. Rudolph suggests pairing yours with cropped ankle pants, a knitted sweater, and your favorite sneakers . "If you plan on going into the office fresh off the plane, try pairing your wrap with wool trousers [and] a turtleneck, and draping it over your body like a shawl," she adds.

During a long travel day, you might consider styling your wrap with leggings , sneakers, and an oversized blazer "for the perfect cool, yet comfy travel look," says Sharp. Another simple tip: Coordinate the color of the wrap with your outfit, Sharp suggests. This keeps your 'fit looking uniform and chic.

When shopping, try to stick to versatile, neutral colors like brown, gray, shades of beige, and black, Sharp advises. "As it is a heavier piece, you want it to feel as elevated as possible."

Best Minimalistic Wrap

Loft travel wrap, what to look for in a travel wrap.

Travel wraps are essentially extra-large scarves, and size is one of the greatest considerations you'll have when choosing a travel wrap. A good size is about 70 inches long and 30 inches wide, so it can stretch over most of your body.

You'll also want to pay attention to material. There are several fabrics that will be both cozy and warm without feeling too bulky, making them ideal for travel wraps. We've outlined a few of the most popular options below.

  • Cashmere:  Derived from Kashmir goats , these soft fibers are washed and then spun into yarn to create plush wraps. Loved for its soft warmth, ability to wick moisture and breathability, cashmere is guaranteed to keep you cozy on a long travel day. It does require a higher upkeep, however, as it's recommended to be dry cleaned or hand-washed due to its fine nature. We also suggest looking for manufacturers who  practice more animal-friendly shearing techniques .
  • Wool:  Made  primarily from sheep's fur , wool is known to be some of the warmest fabric around. (Read: When that airplane air conditioner hits, a wool wrap will keep you nice and toasty.) It's hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for those with sensitivities, and it's mildew- and mold-resistant (wool can reportedly soak up to  as much as 30 percent  of its weight in water), meaning even if you spill a bit of liquid on it, it won't get super gross in your suitcase. You shouldn't put your wool in the dryer to avoid shrinking.
  • Polyester:  A synthetic fiber  made from a type of plastic , this ultra-durable material is moisture-wicking and ultra weather-resistant. It's also highly wrinkle-resistant, so it won't look like junk no matter how badly you smush it up under you in the back of the car.
  • Acrylic : Acrylic is a  synthetic alternative  to wool that is just as snuggly and dependable. It's highly resistant to UV fading, which means the dye will stay vibrant for longer, though it's not the most eco-friendly option around. Acrylic fibers also tend to stretch with heat, so never wash your scarf in hot water.
  • Cotton:  Classic and easy, cotton is a staple for its durability, breathability and light breeziness. It's also another great option  if you have allergies  to any other fabrics.
  • Silk:  If you want to add a but of luxe to your ensemble, silk is not only beautiful, but is a  natural protein fiber  obtained from the mulberry silkworm that's extremely strong and helps to regulate your temperature. It's lightweight, breathable and dries quickly, and it will feel nice against your skin, which can improve relaxation and sleep for some—perfect for any long journey ahead.
  • Microfiber :  Made from synthetic fibers , such as polyamide (a nylon byproduct) and polyester, this elastic fabric will be super soft, since it has very small thread diameters. Beyond that, it's long-lasting and super lightweight, which is ideal if you're strictly a  carry-on  only person. The one downside? These fibers easily attract dirt and grime like a magnet.

How to Style a Travel Wrap

The best part of a travel wrap is its versatility. Since it can be worn in so many ways, you can literally style it with just about anything. Going poncho-style? Try it over a loose top or blouse and let it serve as your top layer. (Pro tip: Wear it with shawl pins or shawl buckle clasp so it won’t fall down.) If you're throwing it on as a  scarf , a bulkier sweater and jeans will be fine, since it will sit neatly on top. When worn as a blanket, you can throw it over anything from a suit dress to a pair of  sweats .

We’ve rounded up the best travel wraps you can buy based on material, shape and overall coziness below.

  • Why We Love It: Alpaca yarn, hypoallergenic, odor-resistant

You’ll likely have a hard time taking this handcrafted wrap off because of the incredibly soft Peruvian baby alpaca fur it’s made from (which, FYI, just so happens to also be hypoallergenic and naturally odor-resistant). It measures 20 inches by 70 inches to cover your entire body, and it's dry clean only. But soft fringe detailing and a classy gold button offer sweet detailing, as well.

Choosing The Best Travel Scarf With Hidden Pockets

When looking at travel scarves with hidden pockets there are some important factors your need to consider.

Destination – Ask yourself where you are traveling to and what season you are traveling in. You’ll find that a scarf made from thin material and is lightweight will be great for warmer weather and a thicker, heavier material scarf will be better for colder temperatures. If you’re traveling in between seasons you may want to consider buying two scarves so you can change them depending on what the weather is doing on a particular day.

Style – What clothes are you planning to wear? This is probably more important to females but some males will also like to make sure that they’re keeping up with the fashion and matching their scarves to their outfits. If you end up picking a scarf that doesn’t match your personality or outfit you’ll likely not wear it. Scarves in a neutral color will go with all outfits, whereas a bold color will only go with a few outfits.

Pocket – You’ll want to have a think about the size and quality of your pocket. What are you planning on carrying with you? If you’re looking to only carry some credit cards, your ID, and some emergency cash then you’ll probably prefer a lightweight scarf. However, if you are planning to stash several items inside your scarf like your phone or a small camera then a heavier weight scarf would suit you better.

Price – What do you want to spend? There’s a wide array of scarves out there all ranging in price. Having a budget in mind will help you pick the right scarf for you. Whether you want a scarf just for this trip or you’re looking to make a bigger investment and buy one that will last several trips. There will be a scarf out there within your budget.

How To Choose The Best Scarves with Pocket for Travel

Keyboards for travel aren’t the only thing that you need to have if you travel a lot. Scarves with pockets are just as important, and there are some important things to consider when you want to buy one, which are:

Destination

First, you have to know when and where you plan to use your newly purchased travel scarf with pocket for travel. If you want to use it as a spring or summer accessory, providing a little protection from the sun and evening chills, then you’ll want to opt for a model that’s thin and lightweight. But if you’re heading to cooler climes during the winter, you’ll probably be looking for something with a heavier fabric.

Trust us, if you end up picking a scarf or blanket scarf for travel that doesn’t match your personality or go with your clothes, you’re likely to leave it unused at home. This is possibly more important for male travelers, as many models out there are aimed at the women’s market. If this is you, always keep an eye out for unisex options!

Another thing to consider is the size and quality of the pocket. If you want to keep your phone in your pocket, then make sure the one that you’re going to buy has a pocket that’s big enough to store smartphones. You should also check whether they can carry heavy items or not. If it hangs well even when it’s carrying your phone, then it’s definitely a nice option.

Everyone has a budget, and our suggestion is to pick the best option that you can afford. Whether you’re a hard-up vagabond or someone looking for extras, remember not to overspend! While cheaper products may have some sacrifices, it doesn’t mean they’re not worth buying.

Founded by Two Friends on the Go

The inspiration for zestt was born on an international flight, so it’s no coincidence that travel is at the heart of our brand. After boarding flights with our organic cotton throws for comfort, we realized that there had to be a better way to stay cozy on the go. We wanted something that was versatile, machine washable and crafted from environmentally friendly organic cotton.  We designed the Dreamsoft Travel Scarf as the solution and our customers raved that they were perfect not just for travel, but for everyday life.

This bag will keep everything in place, from your laptop to the summer's hottest beach read. This stylish tote is a true workhorse that is sure to serve you well beyond your beach or pool chair, thanks to its size, matching flat clutch, interior pocket, and sturdy mesh material. An outside pocket, plus four interior ones, will help keep you organized. There are also options for longer handles, a zip or open top, multiple colorways, and personalization.

If you're seeking a bag that looks like a purse while being durable enough to handle a bit of sand and sun, Sézane's Justine Market Bag is a must. Offered in three sizes and multiple styles, this raffia find is made in Madagascar and features both a top handle and shoulder strap. Plus, it pairs perfectly with all your favorite caftans.

We're swooning for this stylish leather tote inspired by Nantucket's iconic basketweaving techniques. Each bag is handcrafted by a small team of artisans to create these unique totes that will patina naturally over time, making this bag an excellent investment for the price. It's also available in a cream colorway.

I Just Spent a Week in London, and These 10 Amazon Finds Were at the Top of My Packing List — From $10

Including Apple AirTags, Baggu bags, and Reebok tennis shoes.

travel scarf pouch

Travel + Leisure / Marcus Millan

It doesn’t matter where I’m headed in the world, I always have two non-negotiables when traveling somewhere new: I have to show up to the airport hours in advance (even with TSA pre-check) and I have to overpack — shocking, I know, but I never want to be without something important. So before embarking on my first trip to London, England, I knew there was only one place to find everything I'd need for a successful week-long adventure across the pond: Amazon.

From leisurely strolling through Notting Hill and admiring the bundles of blooms at Columbia Road Flower Market to reenacting The Beatles' iconic "Abbey Road" album cover, these 10 Amazon finds made my holiday go as smoothly as possible. My curated list of travel essentials includes a range of items, like comfortable sneakers , portable chargers , and crossbody bags . After all, it's my job as an Amazon shopping writer to know where the retailer's best travel accessories are. Keep scrolling to see what made my London packing list.

Baggu Medium Nylon Crescent Bag

The Airbnb I stayed at was a 30-minute Tube ride to central London, so I knew the only times I would be there was when I woke up in the morning and went to sleep at night. Because of this, I brought a spacious bag that could not only carry all of my belongings, but also be a fun accessory to add to my outfits. This Baggu crescent bag checked off both boxes thanks to its sleek exterior, roomy interior, and adjustable strap that I could wear around my shoulder, or across my chest. And, it’s made with a nylon material that’s machine washable, so I didn’t have to worry about it getting dirty throughout the day.

Anrabess Two-piece Lounge Set

With a seven-hour plane ride to Heathrow and another seven-hour trip back to NYC, comfort was at the top of my mind for my travel outfits. This is why I opted for a two-piece lounge set to keep me cozy from checking into my flight to checking into my Airbnb. This soft and stretchy set comes with a quarter-zip top that you can easily throw over a T-shirt, and drawstring pants that you can tighten or loosen as needed. Plus, there are 21 colors to choose from, including fun neutrals like apricot beige, caramel brown, and sky blue.

Apple AirTag

We’ve all heard horror stories of someone’s checked luggage not making it to their final destination, and they have no way of finding its location. So this wouldn’t be the case for me during my vacation, I grabbed a flight attendant-trusted Apple AirTag to stick in every bag I brought. The gadget comes with a built-in tracker that connects to the Find My App on my iPhone so I can see its location in real-time. And if your belongings do get lost, there’s an option to ping the AirTag to sound an alert or set it in lost mode until it’s found.

Reebok Club C 85 Vintage Walking Shoes

Like any major city, London calls for a lot of walking. And since I already get an above-average step count living in New York City, I brought my tried and true Reebok sneakers. The classic shoes feature white leather exteriors that match everything, and they’re extremely comfortable thanks to their supportive insoles. I’ve been through a lot of shoes that leave my feet and heels with blisters, but never with these shoes. You’ll definitely want to snag a pair while they’re on sale.

Bagail Eight-piece Packing Cube Set

I outed myself earlier, but it’s true. I’m guilty of overpacking. I wanted to make the most of my luggage space for this trip since I was traveling for a full week, so I snagged a set of packing cubes to help keep me organized. The handy eight-piece set came with various bags in different sizes to separate my clothing, undergarments, shoes, and makeup. It made it so easy to keep my bag organized throughout the week, and for once, I didn’t have to sit on my suitcase to get it to zip shut.

Iniu Portable Charger

Between using Google Maps to figure out where I was going, my camera to take photos, and Apple Pay to quickly buy things, I was constantly using my phone in London. I knew I needed a portable charger with how long I’d be out during the day, and the ones I already owned rarely lasted long enough to produce even half a charge. So after glimpsing through the 77,000 five-star reviews of this best-selling portable charger , I decided to give it a try. The charger lasted for days on one single charge and recharged my phone fast . I 10/10 recommend this for anyone traveling this summer.

Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle

Speaking of staying out and about all day, I wanted to make sure I had a reusable bottle of water on me to stay hydrated. And even though I have plenty of options on deck at home, my favorite as of late for on-the-go travel has been the best-selling Owala bottle . Made with an insulated design, the stainless steel bottle keeps my water ice cold for hours. And, it comes with a covered lid that locks into place so there are no potential leaks or spills. Choose from 16- to 40-ounce options, and 22 vibrant colors.

Columbia Arcadia II Jacket

In case you didn’t already know, London is notorious for rainy weather. Since I didn’t have room to pack an umbrella, I made sure to bring a waterproof jacket. This Columbia rain jacket is made with a lightweight fabric that is easy to layer over a shirt without getting hot, and its compact design makes it a breeze to pack into your suitcase — and in a tote when you’re on the go. Plus, it features a drawstring hood, built-in pockets, and a zipper to ensure you stay dry.

Mrsdry Silicone Travel Bottles

I’m pretty particular when it comes to using provided hotel toiletries. Certain items just don’t work with my sensitive skin or fine hair, so I’ve been adding my favorite moisturizers, body washes, and conditioners to this set of travel bottles for some time now. The four bottles are designed with a silicone material and a lid that locks into place, so you don’t have to worry about unwanted leaks. Each bottle is 3 ounces in size and comes with a clear bag to meet all TSA guidelines.

European Travel Plug Adapter

Last but certainly not least, this travel plug adapter kept my phone, headphones, and smartwatch running throughout the entire week. If you’re headed to Europe anytime soon, you’ll quickly learn that they don’t use the same outlets as we do in America, so it’s essential to bring an adapter if you plan on using any electronics. This popular pick came with three plug-ins in one, so I could charge multiple devices at once. I truly wouldn’t have made it through my trip without this.

The cultural heritage of Pskov – one of the oldest cities in Russia

No comments · Posted by Sergei Rzhevsky in Architecture , History , Travel

Pskov is a city located in north-west Russia, the capital of the Pskov region . It is one of the oldest cities in Russia, which was first mentioned in the Laurentian Chronicle in 903.

In 1348-1510, this town was the capital of the independent Pskov Republic. In 1510, it was annexed to the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Prior to the beginning of the 18th century, Pskov was one of the largest cities of Russia and Europe, the most important defensive and commercial center of the country. Photos by: Andrei Kireev .

Pskov fortress consisted of five fortified rings (three of which are preserved to this day) that made it virtually impregnable. Throughout its long history Pskov was at the center of fighting many times.

After the founding of St. Petersburg, Pskov lost its dominant position on the western borders of the country. After the Northern War, when borders of the Russian Empire moved far to the west, the importance of Pskov as a trading and defensive center fell even more.

Today, Pskov is an important tourist center of the Pskov region and north-west Russia. Trinity Cathedral, Pskov Fortress, Mirozhsky Monastery, Pogankiny Chambers, a number of ancient churches of Pskov are included in the list of Russia’s cultural heritage.

Pskov: Russia’s most underrated tourist destination

travel scarf pouch

Even older than Moscow

Pskov was first mentioned in the chronicles in 903, more than a century before Moscow was founded. And throughout its rich history it had many turbulent times.

Situated not far from the Estonian and Latvian borders, Pskov was a major trade center and an important point of defense for ancient Russia. Just like many other ancient cities, Pskov lost its powerful and strategic status in the early 18th century when St. Petersburg was founded.

During World War II the city was for three years occupied by the Nazis who left most of the historical buildings in ruins and pillaged museum treasures.

Today, Pskov is a modern city where it’s nice to walk and dine. There are great embankments and restaurants in old boyar mansions - an unforgettable experience. And for sure you won’t regret sampling and experiencing the local culture.

Impressive kremlin, a witness of past glory

The first place to visit is the local kremlin, aka Pskov Krom. It could be the perfect place for shooting Game of Thrones, especially the Winterfell scenes. The city’s oldest part, the kremlin, is situated high on the picturesque spit of two rivers: Pskova and Velikaya.

The most impressive feature in addition to its location and surroundings is certainly the citadel’s walls, up to eight meters high and to six meters wide. Up on the walls are passages where one can walk (and take stunning pics with the river view), and a restaurant right inside the wall.

Among the must-see sights inside the kremlin are the medieval ruins. In the 14th century Pskov was one of several independent republics in the lands of ancient Russia, and there was a place for a popular assembly, known in Russian as veche .

The white and most attractive building inside the citadel is the Trinity Cathedral, dating to the 17th century. It has one of the highest and largest iconostasis in the whole of Russia!

Ancient churches and sites saw turbulent times

Literally on every corner you’ll find ancient churches. In fact, there are so many that it’s impossible to visit all; you’ll even grow tired making pictures and trying to keep in mind which church has which name!

Ten of Pskov’s ancient cathedrals, monasteries and architectural sites are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The oldest among them is the ensemble of the Mirozhsky Monastery dating to the 12th century.

Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior in the Mirozhsky Monastery

Other must-visit churches from the list are the Church of the Archangel Michael with a bell tower from the 14th century, and St. Basil the Great on the hill, dating to the 15th century.

To the west of Pskov is the town and fortress of Izborsk. In the 13th century it withstood several attacks by the Livonian knights. But what is even more interesting is that the area is considered to be sacred. Not far from the fort’s walls, multiple springs flow from the hillside. Orthodox Christians believe the water is holy, and walk there to gather some.

Another great site to visit is the huge and impressive monument to Alexander Nevsky and the Battle on the Ice, which took place in 1242 on Lake Peipus (known in Russian as Pskovo-Chudskoye Lake), and which is located on the Russia-Estonian border. Prince Alexander Nevsky defeated the Livonian Order, and many enemy knights fell through the ice and perished.

In the movie Alexander Nevsky the legendary Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein tried to recreate that battle, using stage sets instead of real ice, of course.

Pushkin Hills, a place where Russian literature was born

Almost 70 miles far from Pskov you will see true heaven on earth. Here, you will find three magnificent noble estates with parks and the Russian idyllic countryside.

Pushkin Hills - Trigorskoye estate

These places are connected with the life of the great poet Alexander Pushkin; Mikhaylovskoye was his family estate, while Petrovskoye and Trigorskoye were owned by his relatives and friends. In 1824, he was sent to exile here, and within two years wrote his best poems and works.

Southwest Airlines 'looking into' video of woman lying inside overhead bin before takeoff

travel scarf pouch

Passengers on a Southwestern Airlines flight were in for a surprise when they spotted a woman lying inside an overhead luggage compartment while boarding.

Video recorded by Monique Guzman shows a woman lying next to a suitcase, as a flight attendant is heard welcoming passengers on board the aircraft.

Southwest Airlines, in an email to USA TODAY, said the airline is looking into the incident and did not share further information. Storyful reported that the woman was seen on a flight from Albuquerque to Phoenix on May 6.

Guzman told Storyful that she "saw a head pop out of the overhead" as she got on the plane and that other passengers were unfazed by her presence and were “just casually walking past her.”

A flight attendant found her before takeoff, said Guzman. However, it is not immediately clear if she was removed from the overhead bin and how long she was there.

Earlier, in 2019, a Southwest flight attendant had crawled into a plane's overhead bin as passengers boarded a flight from Nashville to Atlanta. The airline, at the time, had said that the attendant was having a moment of fun and expressing her sense of humor.
