Disney Cruise Ships by Size, Age and Class (2022)

Disney Cruise Line - Disney Dream

Disney Cruise Line has an active fleet of four cruise ships with a further three ships on order ( Disney Wish and two currently unnamed ships).

In this guide, we will cover all the different ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and how they compare to each other.

Introduction to Disney Cruise Line

Before Disney Cruise Line became its own entity, Disney actually tried to work with both Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. However, nothing really came of this and so in 1994 Disney had their first cruise ship plans drawn up.

Disney announced their first cruises would start in 1998 and commissioned familiar cruise shipbuilder, Fincantieri in Italy to build their first two cruise ships ( Disney Magic and Disney Wonder ).

In July 1998, Disney Magic performed the first maiden voyage for the cruise line – sailing from their homeport of Port Canaveral, Florida.

By 2005, Disney was using Los Angeles as their summer homeport for their ships and the gaining popularity of them was outstripping their capacity.

In 2007, they announced the building of two new cruise ships – Disney Dream , which launched in January 2011 and Disney Fantasy which started operations in 2012.

More recently, in 2016 Disney announced a new class of cruise ship – the Triton-class, which would be used for two new upcoming cruise ships. A third ship was added to the order book in 2017 and the first ship of the class, Disney Wis h is expected to join the Disney fleet in July 2022.

Disney Cruise Ships Frequently Asked Questions

What is disney’s largest cruise ship.

The  Disney Fantasy  and  Disney Dream  are the largest cruise ships in the Disney fleet currently.

What is Disney’s smallest cruise ship?

Disney Magic  is the smallest cruise ship in the Disney fleet, carrying 2,700 passengers.

Which is the oldest Disney cruise ship?

Disney Magic  is the oldest ship in the Disney fleet. It started service in 1998.

Which is the newest Disney cruise ship?

The newest Disney ship is  Disney Wish  which is due to enter service in July 2022.

What is the cheapest month to take a Disney cruise?

Generally, Jan-Mar or Nov-Dec are the off-peak season cruises with Disney and therefore cheaper to cruise!

Do you pay for dining on a Disney cruise?

No. Disney cruises are all-inclusive with no surcharges for dining. However, popcorn is extra!

Can you smoke on a Disney cruise?

You have never been allowed to smoke in the Disney staterooms. But they do have designated areas onboard each of their ships.

What Disney cruise ship is the best?

The best Disney cruise is usually the one your kids will beg you to go on! In all seriousness,  Disney Fantasy  has the highest review scores – probably because it is one of the newest with the latest facilities and technologies onboard too!

Are Disney cruise pools heated?

Yes! For your comfort, they are kept at a heat of around 75f.

Why is Disney Cruise Line so expensive?

Disney itself is quite expensive (parks and hotels) – but this is because you are paying for very high-quality experiences with exceptional guest satisfaction.

Their cruises are also more expensive because of the inclusive dining.

Disney Cruise Ships by Size (from largest to smallest)

What does ‘tonnage (grt)’ mean.

GRT (Gross Registered Tonnage) is a term used to calculate the volume inside a ship. It is a measure of cubic capacity and is calculated by the total volume from inside the hull and decks of the ship. 1 GRT = 100 cubic feet of space. In essence, the bigger the GRT – the more ‘space’ the ship has for passengers, cargo, etc.

How are ‘Passengers (Max)’ calculated?

You’ll see multiple numbers for passengers on ships – this is because many ships include extra beds in cabins (such as the sofa/couch can convert to a pull-out bed) – but the majority of cabins usually have 2 people in them. the ‘Max’ number is if every cabin used their additional pull-out bed, etc. This number is unlikely to be reached very frequently.

Disney Cruise Ships by Age (from newest to oldest)

Are all disney cruise ships new builds.

Yes, all Disney cruise ships are brand new builds and purpose-built for Disney Cruise Line.

As Disney has exceptionally high standards you can guess that they would not be happy with taking on an older ship and converting it to their standard.

Therefore, they build each ship to their exact specification. However, they do use the same cruise shipbuilder as other lines such as Carnival and MSC Cruises use, which is Fincantieri in Italy.

Disney Cruise Ships by Class (from newest to oldest)

Final thoughts.

For many, taking a Disney Cruise is an absolute bucket-list item – whether you are a seasoned cruiser or not. Who wouldn’t want to experience the magic of Disney, but at sea?

From their colorful ships to the very high customer service standards that Disney offers, a Disney cruise is perfect for kids (and adults too).

The cruise line has been slower than others to add extra ships, but with three new ships on order, they will be nearly doubling their fleet by late 2025!

Disney Cruise Line ships ranked by size from biggest to smallest — the complete list

Gene Sloan

Are you looking for the most activity-packed, megaresort-like Disney Cruise Line ships at sea? If so, you'll want to get on one of the biggest Disney Cruise Line ships.

The biggest Disney cruise ships are, by their very nature, the Disney ships with the most watery fun zones and other family-friendly attractions on their top decks, as well as the most restaurants, bars and showrooms. They also have the biggest array of cabins and suites — as well as the most variation in cabin and suite types.

With room for 4,000 passengers or more, the three biggest Disney Cruise Line ships — Disney Wish, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream — are large resorts of the sort you find at such landlocked destinations as Orlando and Las Vegas. If you're in the "bigger is better" camp when it comes to a resort experience, these are the Disney ships for you.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

However, Disney doesn't just operate such large vessels. The family-friendly cruise brand also operates two smaller cruise ships — Disney Wonder and Disney Magic — that carry just 2,500 passengers at maximum capacity. In both cases, these vessels are 40% smaller than Disney's biggest ships. As a result, they have fewer deck-top activities and interior venues than the biggest Disney cruise ships. They also have a much more intimate feel that many Disney fans love.

The two smaller Disney cruise ships are best for vacationers who like a more intimate, less crowded resort experience.

5. Disney Magic

What is the biggest Disney cruise ship?

The biggest Disney Cruise Line ship is Disney Wish. At 144,000 gross tons, it's about 15% bigger than the next biggest Disney ships (Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream). Unveiled in July 2022, Disney Wish is also the newest Disney cruise ship.

TPG has had staffers on Disney Wish three times over the past year to experience and review the vessel. For more on the ship and its new features, see the following guides and reviews:

What is the smallest Disney cruise ship?

The smallest Disney Cruise Line ship is Disney Magic. At 83,000 gross tons, it's about 40% smaller than Disney's biggest cruise ship, Disney Wish.

Unveiled in 1998, Disney Magic also is the oldest Disney cruise ship. Its arrival marked the beginning of the line.

Because of its smaller size, Disney Magic offers fewer and smaller attractions than newer Disney ships such as Disney Wish. Disney Cruise Line typically uses Disney Magic as well as its similarly sized sister ship Disney Wonder for its more destination-intensive itineraries — trips where you're going to spend much of your time off the ship and onboard amenities are less important.

Disney Magic, for instance, is the ship that Disney sends to Europe every summer for itineraries that are all about exploring cities such as Barcelona and Rome (reached via the port of Civitavecchia, Italy).

Are bigger Disney cruise ships coming?

Yes — at least one. Disney Cruise Line recently bought a massive, partly finished cruise ship that originally was ordered for Asia-based Dream Cruises. At 208,000 gross tons, the vessel will be more than 40% bigger than the biggest Disney ship currently at sea.

The unfinished and as-yet-unnamed ship, which originally was designed to hold 9,000 people, became available for purchase after Dream Cruises went out of business.

Disney plans to finish construction on the vessel and operate it out of Singapore starting in 2025. The ship will sail Southeast Asia voyages that likely will be aimed at the Asia cruise market.

In announcing the purchase, Disney said the vessel would hold just 6,000 passengers, implying that the ship's cabin configurations would be redesigned.

In addition to the vessel mentioned above, Disney Cruise Line also has two sister ships to Disney Wish on order. The first to arrive will be Disney Treasure in 2024. Another vessel in the same series, known as the Triton class of ships, is on order for delivery in 2025.

The two new Triton-class vessels will be roughly the same size as Disney Wish.

What's the difference between bigger and smaller Disney cruise ships?

The biggest Disney Cruise Line ships have room for more onboard venues and attractions than the older vessels and offer a bigger-feeling resort experience.

On the three biggest Disney vessels (Disney Wish, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream), you'll find large water coasters careening around the top deck — a level of attraction you don't find on the two smaller Disney ships.

The three biggest Disney cruise ships also are home to kiddie waterslides, deck-top kiddie play areas and several pools a piece. The ships' insides are loaded with huge children's play areas, family entertainment and even adults-only venues.

Disney's two smaller ships are about 40% smaller than its three bigger ships and have fewer such features. They have a notably more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships. They also hold fewer people. While Disney's three biggest ships are designed to hold around 4,000 passengers with every berth full, the line's two smallest vessels (together known as the Magic class of ships) are only designed to carry about 2,500 passengers with every berth filled.

That makes the two smallest Disney ships a good choice for someone who wants to try a Disney cruise but isn't eager to travel with huge crowds. The smallest ships in the Disney fleet thus appeal to a subset of Disney fans who prefer more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. They are also sometimes less expensive to sail on, on a per-day basis.

In addition, because of their size, the smallest ships at Disney are able to operate itineraries to places that aren't as easy for big ships to visit. Not all ports in the world can handle a ship the size of Disney Wish.

Disney Treasure — December 2024

The sixth ship of the Disney Cruise Line fleet — and the next one to begin sailing — will be named the Disney Treasure.

It’s currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. This is the same shipyard which built three prior Disney Cruise Ships , the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish.

The first of the large “building blocks” which will make up the ship began arriving onsite at the shipyard in November 2022. By March of 2023, one of the recognizable “funnels” had arrived.

You can follow along as more parts of the ship arrive at the shipyard over the coming months by checking out all the videos from the excellent Ems-Dollart Media YouTube channel.

Construction continues to move along swiftly; Disney’s own photographic log of the shipbuilding process shows that the bridge (essentially the “cockpit” of the ship) was installed in late June 2023.

The bridge area of the Disney Treasure cruise ship (under construction) is shown in a photo released by Disney

And by early December 2023, both of the iconic funnels had been installed on the ship, already showing hints of their signature red color and Mickey Mouse icon.

As of late March 2024, the superstructure of the ship is essentially complete. Photos released by Disney show the ship fully painted, actually afloat in the water versus in drydock, and now moved to a new location for finishing work as construction work shifts toward the new Disney Destiny (detailed later in this article).

The Disney Treasure is expected to host its first passengers in late December 2024. It will be a sister ship to the current newest ship, the Disney Wish (which began sailing in 2022) — as well as to the Disney Destiny, which joins the fleet in 2025. This means that these three ships should be generally the same in terms of construction, though some themed elements will vary between the three.

Only a few details have been fully confirmed, but here’s what Disney has announced publicly and what we can estimate based on what we know about its sister ship the Disney Wish.

The overall theme of the ship is “adventure,” as announced at the 2022 D23 Expo.

The ship’s bow will feature artwork of Minnie Mouse in “adventure-ready” attire, while the stern will feature 3D sculptures of Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

The grand hall of the ship is “inspired by the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace,” with both real-world inspiration (Asia and Africa) and fairy-tale inspiration ( Agrabah ).It will be the first Disney Cruise ship to feature three Disney characters in its atrium lobby statue: Aladdin, Jasmine, and their Magic Carpet (along with the fateful lamp).

On September 5, 2023, Disney released a significant amount of information on what will be included onboard the ship. As expected, some of the offerings are generally in line with what’s found on the Disney Wish — but others are unique to the Treasure.

Here’s a quick glance at some of the spaces and offerings that will be on the ship:

  • The usual variety of Inside, Oceanview, Verandah, and Concierge Staterooms
  • Four Royal Suites , including Bagheera Royal Suites and Rajah Royal Suites with designs inspired by characters from  The Jungle Book and  Aladdin , respectively.
  • An astounding  Tomorrow Tower Suite inspired by EPCOT, in one of the ship’s iconic red funnel smokestacks.
  • The  Plaza de Coco restaurant, inspired by the film  Coco , offers themed dining with live Mariachi music and a visit from Miguel
  • The  Worlds of Marvel and  1923  restaurants, also found on the Disney Wish
  • Palo Steakhouse, Enchanté , and The Rose , adult-exclusive specialty dining / lounges, also found on the Disney Wish
  • Jumbeaux’s Sweets , inspired by Zootopia , offers tasty snacks for purchase
  • Jade Cricket Café and Heihei Café , inspired by Mulan and Moana
  • Periscope Pub , inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
  • Skipper Society , a lounge inspired by the Jungle Cruise attraction
  • Haunted Mansion Parlor , a lounge themed to the Haunted Mansion attraction
  • Marceline Market and Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods casual dining
  • The AquaMouse  features a new Curse of the Golden Egg storyline developed for the Disney Treasure.
  • Ten pools plus a  Toy Story Splash Zone
  • Disney’s Oceaneer Club  featuring  Marvel Super Hero Academy ,  Fairytale Hall ,  Walt Disney Imagineering Lab ,  Star Wars Cargo Bay , and  Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck
  • Edge , Vibe , and it’s a small world nursery! for tweens, teens, and toddlers, respectively.

Disney Adventure (former Global Dream ) — 2025

Early artist concept of Disney Cruise Line's "Disney Adventure" cruise ship, the former Global Dream

In 2022, it was announced that Disney had purchased a partially-completed cruise ship that was in the process of being built for another cruise line. This announcement was a big shock, as Disney had already surprised fans with an unexpected announcement of Disney Cruise Line’s seventh custom-built cruise ship (see next ship section below) and everyone thought that would be the end of the fleet expansion for the foreseeable future.

This newly-acquired, partially-constructed ship — known at the time as the Global Dream  — was in its fourth year of construction at MV Werften shipyard in Germany as an addition to the fleet of Genting Hong Kong .

But thanks to a series of bankruptcies (involving both the original cruise line and the shipbuilder!), construction was eventually abandoned and the partially-built ship was due to be scrapped.

Disney Cruise Line was long rumored to be interested in acquiring the hull, and the purchase was officially announced in November 2022. Meyer Werft, which has built every Disney Cruise ship since the Disney Dream, will oversee the Global Dream’s completion and its conversion into a Disney Cruise ship.

As you can see in this video originally taken in February 2022 (months before the deal was announced), a significant amount of construction on the ship has already been done. Note that the video pre-dates the Disney purchase but has since been retitled to reflect Disney’s ownership.

Because Disney has come into the project as the ship is already about 75% complete, the former Global Dream is not likely to have a so-called “sister ship” in the Disney fleet; it will be its own vessel without an equivalent.

The ship will not home-port in the United States but rather in Singapore. At the time the purchase was originally announced, Disney indicated that the ship was being purchased specifically to serve “new markets,” and the conventional wisdom of industry observers at the time was that this ship would likely primarily serve Asia — its original target market under the prior cruise line.

On March 29, 2023, Disney and the Singapore Tourism Board announced a five-year exclusive partnership that would base the ship in Singapore once construction is complete in 2025.

Artist rendering of a black, white, red, and yellow Disney Cruise Ship

Sharp-eyed readers might notice that in the newer concept art, the ship has “lost” one of its three red smokestack funnels and now has only two — mirroring the other ships in the Disney fleet.

Although this is the eighth Disney Cruise Ship to be announced, comments by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro have repeatedly indicated that it will be the seventh one to enter service.

Disney recently dipped its toes into serving previously-uncharted waters (uncharted by Disney, at least), with its new Australia and New Zealand itineraries. It’s widely believed that the additions of the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and the Disney Destiny will give Disney the freedom to reassign some some of its older ships — as well as the former Global Dream ship — to cruise farther-flung itineraries going forward.

The Singapore announcement gives credence to those theories.

Virtually no information about Disney’s new theme for this ship has been released. We did, however, find out its name. On September 9, 2023, Disney announced that it will be known as the Disney Adventure.

Given that it’s a standalone ship with no “sister,” we really don’t have much to compare it to. And given that the ship is expected to target an international audience, it’s unclear if any of the traditional Disney Cruise elements might be adjusted (or completely abandoned) to better match regional travel preferences and customs.

Amusement Park Onboard?

Among the most tantalizing items in the original plans for the Global Dream was mention of an “amusement park” onboard the ship. It’s unknown how extensive that concept was in the first place — much less what (if any) of it will survive now that Disney has taken over. But Disney has been upping its onboard attractions game as of late; the Disney Wish is home to the AquaMouse, which Disney has called its first ever “attraction at sea.” We’ll see if this concept takes forward when the former Global Dream re-launches as a Disney ship.

Casinos Onboard?

The original plans for the ship under its prior ownership also included a casino — Disney doesn’t have casinos on any of its existing ships, so it’s likely that this space will be repurposed for something else on the Disney Adventure. Theoretically, it’s possible Disney could keep the casino given the “new market” targeting, but it’s generally considered unlikely.

One of the two cruise ports in Singapore. Most likely the Marina Bay Cruise Centre , which is better-equipped to handle mega ships such as this one.

The Disney Adventure will be a behemoth! At 208,000 gross tons (based on original Global Dream specs and early indications from Disney), it’s expected to be among the top ten heaviest cruise ships in the world; based on ships currently sailing in 2023, it would rank number 7.

Estimated to be approximately 1,122 feet (based on original Global Dream specs)

Estimated to be approximately 152 feet (based on original Global Dream specs)

Estimated to be approximately 31 feet (based on original Global Dream specs)

Unclear at this time

Green Methanol (based on early indications from Disney)

Estimated to be approximately 2,300 (based on early indications from Disney)

Estimated to be between 6,000 passengers (based on early indications from Disney)

Unclear at this time. Global Dream was originally expected to have about 2,500 staterooms, but it’s likely Disney Adventure could remove some of those to accommodate more common areas. This possibility would be supported by the fact that Global Dream was originally expected to hold about 8,000-9,000 passengers but Disney has indicated it would likely only accommodate somewhere around 6,000 after conversion.

Estimated to have approximately 14 passenger decks, counting both staterooms and common areas such as pools (based on original Global Dream concept art)

Disney Destiny — 2025

Disney Destiny concept art | Image © Disney

The last ship currently scheduled to be fully built (from start to finish) specifically for Disney’s fleet is due to arrive in 2025.

This ship was somewhat of a surprise in and of itself. Disney originally announced in 2016 that it would be building two new ships. But at the following year’s D23 Expo, the company announced it would actually be building three new ships.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the expected roll-out of the additions to the fleet, this ship is now expected to hold its maiden voyage sometime in 2025. Although it has long been colloquially known as the “seventh” Disney ship, the addition of the Disney Adventure (previously known as the Global Dream ) to the fleet lineup will likely mean that this ship will actually be the eighth Disney ship to begin sailing with passengers.

Like the Disney Treasure, this ship is expected to be materially similar to the Disney Wish in terms of construction.

On March 20, 2024, we learned that this new ship will be called the  Disney Destiny .

The theme of the Disney Destiny is expected to revolve around the concept of heroes and villains. In announcing the name on March 20, 2024, Disney promised:

… opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose. Onboard, guests will encounter heroes and villains alike – including those from beloved Walt Disney Animation stories like “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” – within spaces, experiences and entertainment throughout their voyage.

The bow of the ship will feature artwork showing Captain Minnie in her superhero best.

Captain Minnie is seen with a super hero cape in artwork for the front of the Disney Destiny cruise ship

Disney also released a fun comic book style video to announce the ship’s theme:

Given that it is a sister ship to the Disney Wish, we expect a similar layout in terms of the number of kids’ clubs, restaurants, pools, etc. But we don’t yet know the specific theme of any of them.

Not yet known. Either Port Canaveral or Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) are strong possibilities, given that they are the two year-round home ports for Disney Cruise Ships and Disney historically has put its newest ships in Florida — at least to start.

Estimated to be approximately 135,000-144,000 gross tons (based on Disney Wish and Meyer Werft data)

Adventure and Imagine Included in Signage Featuring the Current Disney Cruise Line Fleet Ship Names

YouTuber, Doug Neville , was recently over at Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek filming an unrelated video and stumbled upon a sign featuring the names of the Disney Cruise Line ships: Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, and Wish… In addition to the names of the current fleet, and the soon to debut Disney Wish were two other words… Adventure and Imagine . In the video, Neville Land brings up a great question, did Disney accidentally reveal the names of the the Disney Wish sister ships set to debut in 2024 and 2025 as the Disney Adventure and Disney Imagine?

Huge shoutout to Neville Land for the sharp eye on this sign.

If you ask me, I actually think this has some merit. Back before the Disney Wish name was announced, I received a tip that Disney Adventure was going to be one of the 3 names. Only time will tell if that tipster was accurate, and if this signage is an accidental leak. It is worth noting, a few years ago there were some jewelry items featuring regular Disney buzzwords that included some of the ship names along with Believe. I’ve heard from a few readers the signage has been in place as far back as 2014. The following photo is from 2020 courtesy of @AggiesDoItBetter .

DCL Possible Ship Names 2020 Aggsdoitbetter

So, the better question is, did they intentionally name drop future ship names well before the fleet expansion was announced or is this simply a coincidence?

What do you think about this sign over at the Hilton Orland Bonnet Creek, and more importantly, what do you think about the potential for the next Triton Class ships to be named Disney Imagine and Disney Adventure?

Nothing came up on a trademark search-would they file it this far in advance?

' src=

No, the Wish was named August 25, 2019, the registration showed up for the Wish with a filing date of May 12, 2020. Since they register the full name beginning with “Disney SHIPNAME” it is not like they are worried someone else will come along and register the usage for passenger cruise ship services .

' src=

If confirmed these names fit with the Disney theme as “Storytellers” but, Disney likes to make these announcements at large events such as D-23 or stockholders meetings and is usually pretty good at keeping a secrets. It could of been done intentionally to fool us as there are other good possible names – Star, Sorcerer, or Enchantment, Regardless, I looking forward to the official announcement

Interesting you say Star. There was an Imagineering internship project that created a mock up with a title treatment for the name Disney Star.

' src=

Wow I can not believe you are falling for this. This is a the Bonnet Creek Hilton. Do you really think Disney would hide something like that in a place that is not even their property? These are just common adjectives that we all you to describe a Disney vacation. Nothing ,ore. In my opinion all this guy was hoping for was 2 min of fame and you are helping him. Such a shame.

Very true, these are a collection of buzz words Disney loves to use all over, but it is hard to ignore the collection and the relationship to Disney Cruise Line. I’ve learned this has been up since at least 2014. However, with the Wish being named, that leaves just 2 words on the sign not used a ship name. Sure, it is a stretch, but it is also plausible. I do not know Doug, he did not send me the video, or even reach out. I was alerted to this video by a crew member, and felt it was worth sharing.

' src=

They were my guesses for name 3 years ago, and fit perfectly.

' src=

I think many of us thought Imagine was a strong possibility. Adventure seems mediocre; could apply to any cruise line. My child just said “Adventure sounds like something anyone could stamp on the back of their rowboat”.

' src=

Probably just clickbait for views. How easy would it be for anyone to make that small sign, stick in a window and then quickly snap a pic. Nice try.

Again, it is worth noting… this has been there since at least 2014. At the very least, the sign is real.

Disney song – When you “Wish Upon a “Star” – s ister ships

' src=

It’s fun to try and guess the names until we know!

' src=

Over the years at one point the towers at the Disneyland Hotel were named the Fantasy, Dream, Wonder and Magic. Also on an old box I have from the Disney store all those names in the sign appear.

' src=

I would hope not. I think the Disney Enchantment and Disney Marvel (especially to take over Marvel Day at Sea cruises) go better with the existing DCL names.

' src=

I love the name Adventure, but I’m also imagining one of the Triton Class ships named the Disney DISCOVERY, I also imagined Wall-E and Eve painting the ship’s name, or maybe Stitch could do the job, but who knows.

Disney Reveals Name and Concept for Next Cruise Ship

Andrea Santillan

Andrea Santillan

  • March 27, 2024

Debuting in 2025, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has just unveiled the name of its newest ship—Disney Destiny.

Disney's newest cruise ship sailing at sunset with an enchanting theme.

The third Wish-class vessel will celebrate the heroes and villains from some of The Walt Disney Company’s most beloved animated films.

The ship will explore how “opposing forces of light and darkness drive characters to rise to their purposes.”

Future passengers of Disney Destiny can expect to see famous personalities from Hercules, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and The Lion King onboard.

The cruise line also revealed a new design for the ship’s bow, which features Minnie Mouse. The specially designed filigree artwork shows Minnie in a heroic mid-flight pose, wearing a superhero costume with a cape.

Disney Destiny is part of the cruise line’s fleet expansion

Disney Destiny is part of DCL’s plan to expand its fleet over the next few years. Sharon Siskie, the senior vice president and general manager, underscored its strategic importance.

Destiny has two sister ships: Disney Wish , which debuted in 2022, and Disney Treasure , scheduled to join the fleet this December.

The cruise operator is also renovating a ship that will be christened the Disney Adventure. With plans to homeport the vessel to Singapore, it will be DCL’s first time entering the Southeast Asian cruise market.

DCL acquired the Global-class ship from Genting Cruise Lines in 2022 for a reported $44 million after the latter filed for bankruptcy.

Disney Cruise Line names its newest cruise ship

I t was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.

Carnival Cruise Line Names Godfather of Italian-Style Ship Carnival Firenze

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the godfather of its latest 'Carnival Fun Italian Style' ship, Carnival Firenze.

Carnival Firenze Officially Joins Carnival Cruise Line Fleet

Share this post:

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that actor Jonathan Bennett has been named godfather of its ship Carnival Firenze , which is the second vessel in the fleet with the ‘Carnival Fun Italian Style’ theme.

The Florence, Italy-inspired ship will homeport in Long Beach, California, where it will be christened on April 24th and set sail on April 25th.

Carnival Firenze Officially Joins Carnival Cruise Line Fleet

“Jonathan is a true brand ambassador for Carnival.  He cruises with us, honeymooned with us and tells his friends and family to vacation with Carnival.  He is friendly and welcoming to everyone and embodies the Carnival style of fun.  After he sailed on the first voyage of Carnival Firenze’s sister ship Carnival Venezia last May, he told me it would be his dream to be the godfather of one of our ships, so how could I turn down such a request for such a terrific friend to Carnival,” said Duffy.

“While he’s not Italian, he is proof positive that anyone can have Italian Style fun when you sail on our Italian-themed ships, and we are thrilled to have him help us welcome our newest addition to the Carnival fleet.”

About Jonathan Bennett

Following his first professional acting role on the soap opera “All My Children,” Bennett appeared in a number of TV series before his breakout role as Aaron Samuels in the movie “Mean Girls.” He has gone on to star in multiple feature films, Hallmark Channel movies, and hosted programs for the Food Network. He’s also the host for the New York Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration where Carnival has sponsored the ball drop for the past three years.  He is currently completing his first Broadway appearance in the hit revival of the musical, “Spamalot.”

jonathan bennett carnival firenze godfather

“This is an amazing honor and I’m so proud to know that I’ll always be a part of the Carnival Firenze family,” said Bennett. “When I told Christine that I’d love to be a Carnival cruise ship godfather, I never thought she’d take my request seriously. I have so much respect for the Carnival team and how they’re dedicated to taking care of their guests, the ocean and each other. When I say Carnival is a great company and a great way to vacation, I mean it! I’m so excited to not only be the ship’s godfather, but to also get to cruise on Carnival Firenze as a guest now that Carnival fun Italian style is coming to the west coast.”

Bennett will officially christen Carnival Firenze during the naming ceremony on April 24th. It will be livestreamed on Carnival’s Facebook page.

Carnival Firenze will sail year-round from Long Beach, offering three to seven-day Baja Mexico and Mexican Riviera cruises.
