Anacapa Hall Dorm Reviews at UCSB

Samantha Q.

Anacapa Hall, the first experience I've had, was not the best. We had fire alarms go off so much during the night, loudness at night, and plumbing issues. As much as I enjoyed how pretty my window view was, I did not feel too safe there. In addition, I don't blame the staff for the mess that was in our dorm, it really was many other people's fault. From overflowing trashcans to girls leaving hygiene products in the showers/toilets, it was disgusting. The sinks' water was always too hot and there was almost always maintenance happening in the bathrooms. I believe the other halls were much more engaging, quiet, and fun. I felt left out despite finding many good friends, but again this is my personal experience.

Anacapa was a great hall to live in during Freshman year. Out of the many first year dorms, Anacapa was one of the most social dorms. It held a lot of great events, had a welcoming atmosphere and was a great distance from the STEM buildings. The worst part was the communal bathrooms but it was easy to get used to it. The best part was the beach view from many windows and the 2 minute walk to the ocean.

Overall the experience was horrible. There was no AC and it was miserable in the warmer months. The bathrooms tended to be a total disaster. The kitchen was barely usable and the appliances were less than ideal.

I dormed in Anacapa in Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 before COVID hit. Anacapa scholars floor was awesome. It was full of STEM majors, stoners, and overall great people. Anacapa and Santa Cruz tend to be people's top choices for a first-year dorm experience. It's right next to beach access and near two of the dining halls. Really cute building and the staff was amazing and pleasant. Great maintenance team and plenty of washers and dryers and events.

I loved my freshman year experience in Anacapa Hall. Although it was tucked away in the back of the campus, it was beautifully set near the beach and allowed for quick access to the campus, most importantly the library. It is further away from the dining halls, but definitely only a bike ride away from DLG and not a deal breaker. The dorm rooms do not have their own private bathroom, so the bathrooms and showers are like an upscale locker room that you share with your "floormates." I believe this is the same for Santa Cruz Hall as well.

Anacapa was a great place for my freshman year. Although it wasn't the newest and most high tech dorm on campus when I lived there in 2016, it was close to all the dining halls, the beach, my classes, and the lawns. The staff did a great job of creating a sense of support and community in my dorm and we had lots of optional activities to participate in.... or you could find your own friend group and bond outside of the dorms too! Overall, I would highly recommend Anacapa because I met many of my friends here and we still talk about the memories we made here (good and bad ;))

Press releases are posted on Independent.com as a free community service.

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.)  –  The County Board of Supervisors will hold two hearings to select rezone sites and County-owned sites to satisfy the County’s  State Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) obligations. The hearings will be held on  Tuesday, April 30, 2024,  at the Santa Maria Betteravia Center hearing room at 511 E. Lakeside Pkwy, Santa Maria and  Friday, May 3, 2024,  at the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room at 105 E. Anapamu, Santa Barbara (entrance on Anacapa St.).

Staff will present the countywide project at the Tuesday, April 30 hearing in Santa Maria and then walk through the North County potential rezone sites.  The South County potential rezone sites will be presented by staff at the Friday, May 3 hearing in Santa Barbara.  Both hearings will be streamed live. To watch the hearings, view the agenda and/or participate virtually visit the Board of Supervisor’s Hearing Process webpage:  Hearing Process | Santa Barbara County, CA – Official Website (countyofsb.org) . View the agenda for instructions.

The County Planning Commission made rezone recommendations at both a north and south county meeting earlier this year.  In the North County, it considered 18 potential rezone sites and recommended to rezone eight sites including one pending project site.  In the South County, the Planning Commission recommended rezoning 16 of 18 potential rezone sites.  The Planning Commission also recommended selecting nine County-owned sites in South County to meet State RHNA requirements. The Board of Supervisors will consider the Planning Commission’s recommendations, but they do not need to adhere to the recommendations. A summary of the Planning Commission recommendations is in the Board Letter which will be available on the  County’s website  on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

The Board will also consider certifying the Final Program Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the 2023-2031 Housing Element Update (HEU) at the May 3 rd  hearing.  The Program EIR analyzes the potential impacts associated with the implementation of the HEU’s goals, policies, and programs, including the potential rezone program.  The Final Program EIR was released on March 19, 2024 after a seven-week public comment period (Dec. 20, 2023 – Feb. 9, 2024) on the Draft Program EIR. The County received over 100 comments via email and during public hearings. The final document, comments received, and the County’s responses are available on the  County Planning and Development website .

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (State HCD)  found the County’s adopted housing element in substantial compliance with State Housing Element Law on January 22, 2024. For this cycle, State HCD requires that Santa Barbara County identify sites to accommodate 5,664 new housing units in unincorporated portions of Santa Barbara County between 2023 and 2031.  This is an 8-fold increase from the last cycle. The RHNA, is further broken down to require 4,142 units in the South Coast region and 1,522 units in the North County region. This breakdown attempts to address the current jobs-housing imbalance.

The State requires the County’s Housing Element to accommodate 2,818 very low, low- and moderate-income units. The Adopted HEU can be found at:  https://www.countyofsb.org/3177/Housing-Element-Update .

The Housing Element Update is one of the mandated components of a General Plan. It directs local governments to plan for the existing and projected housing needs of all economic segments of the community. This is the 6 th  Housing Element cycle, covering 2023-2031.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
