Today, enjoy the ultimate Montenegro experience complete with sparking coastline views and charming Old Towns. You will embark on a cultural adventure through some of the most breathtaking, magical, undiscovered cities in the Adriatic Region.

The beauty of Montenegro will inspire you – from alpine villages with stunning vistas, to pure mountain lakes, to a yachting paradise that rivals the French Riviera, and old towns including the most well-preserved medieval city in Europe. You’ll learn that Montenegro is a wine-lovers paradise. From the indigenous Vranac grapes to the classics such as Chardonnay and Merlot, Montenegro’s mild climate ensures excellent conditions for wine production. And yes, we’ll give you many chances to indulge!

Our Montenegrin travels will take us to the a the gorgeous mountainous north, where we’ll experience fresh mountain air, amazing views, serene forests, a thrilling off-road tour, and savor local artisan delicacies. We’ll make our way from the mountains to the sea, visiting baroque villages by the bay, historic old towns and medieval cities, and even an ultra-modern super-yacht port along the beautiful clear Adriatic Sea.

Our journey will move across the border to the southernmost city of Bosnia Herzegovina – the riverfront city of Trebinje, giving you a taste of the Ottoman old town, serene monasteries, and a chance to sample delicious Bosnian wines. Then, we’ll cross into Croatia to the famous city of Dubrovnik, one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic. You’ll marvel at the stunning architecture and sculptural detail of the old town, with its spectacular churches, monasteries, museums, palaces, and fountains set along the glistening Adriatic Sea. Our visit to this fascinating city marks the end of our journey together.

Day 1 Dubrovnik Arrival>>Transfer to Herceg Novi, Montenegro

You’ll arrive in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. Via private Hotel Transfer you will arrive at your hotel in Herceg Novi Montenegro in about 35 min. Your hotel is centrally located so if you arrive early you will have plenty of restaurants and shops walking distance from your hotel. Settle into your hotel, then enjoy a wonderful dinner of Croatian delicacies as you get to know your traveling companions.

Day 2 Herceg Novi, Montenegro

This morning we begin with a cruise tour via private boat around the beautiful Boka Bay and into the Adriatic Sea. Your guide will explain the history of the bay and surrounding areas, we will visit the gorgeous Blue Cave, one of the largest sea caves on the Lustica Peninsula and stop at a picturesque seaside village for lunch. There are secret submarine hideouts and Fortresses to see along the coastline. You’ll marvel at it’s beautiful iridescent blue waters. Next, we’ll drive to the charming coastal town of Herceg Novi, known as the City of Flowers and the Sun. We’ll visit the sun-soaked vineyards of a hilltop winery, where you’ll tour the winery facility, vineyards, and cellar space. Then you’ll taste various wines while sampling local bites in a breathtaking setting. Tonight we will have out Welcome Dinner.

Day 3 Herceg Novi>>Zabljak

Our travels will take us to Zabljak, a mountain town in the North and where Durmitor National Park is located. We drive through the mountains and canyons with beautiful scenery. Along the way we’ll visit Ostrog Monastery which is built high up into the vertical mountain cliff. It is considered the pearl of spirituality in Montenegro. After arrival in Zabljak you will have free time before dinner.

Day 4 Zabljak>>Kolasin

After we continue our scenic drive deeper into the mountains enjoying the pine forests and alpine scenery until we reach Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our lunch will be along the beautiful spring-fed Black Lake at the national restaurant which sits 4,645 feet above sea level. You will enjoy a nice walk into the pine forest and along the shore of Black Lake all the while taking stunning photographs in pristine nature. Our route to Kolasin takes us along a beautiful scenic route along the Tara River Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe, to a small village where the Tara River Bridge is located. We’ll walk along the famous Tara River Bridge, one of the most visited attractions in Montenegro, as we gaze at the stunning river far below us, have a coffee and peruse the local shops.

Day 5 Kolasin

This day is devoted to exploring the Pearl of European Natural Heritage – Biogradska National Park. This European rainforest is a preserve for dozens of plant and animal species, some of which can be found only in this forest. We’ll have a walking tour to learn about the diverse flora and fauna. Next we travel via 4X4 vehicle to the mountain peaks where we visit a Mountain Eco Farm and enjoy a wholesome homemade lunch with all dishes made fresh from the farm. You will marvel at the beautiful mountain landscape. After lunch we will drive to some of the nearby mountain peaks to enjoy this beautiful region. We may see horses, or herds of sheep with their shepherd. On return to Kolasin you will have some time to take photos, walk along main street, or simply relax and enjoy the fresh air at the rustic mountain resort. Overnight in Kolasin.

Day 6 Kolasin>>Budva

Today we head back south to Budva. We travel a scenic route through the mountains, passing peaks, canyons and rivers. On our way we stop at Moraca Monastery. Next we head to Podgorica the capital of Montenegro and visit the largest vineyard in Europe to sample the crown jewel “Vranac Grape” and enjoy our lunch here. Continuing to Budva we will have a short stop in Cetinje, the former capital city of Montenegro. On arrival in Budva we check in and enjoy free time until our dinner at a waterside restaurant.

Day 7 Budva - Old Town Tour

This morning we take a guided tour of the old town of Budva. Ater you will have the rest of the day at your leisure to shop, enjoy a walk along the seaside promenade or stroll through the narrow cobblestone paths of the old town.

Day 8 Budva>>Porto Montenegro>>Lustica Penn.>>Budva

This morning we’ll head to the exclusive marina and yachting paradise of Porto Montenegro. Stroll along the waterfront and admire the over-the-top superyachts, or treat yourself to a little something from the luxury retail mecca that is Porto Montenegro. We’ll have take our seaside lunch in Porto Montenegro at a local restaurant. Next, we’ll drive to an olive farm, where you’ll enjoy a unique, intimate and informative tour of the only certified manufacturer of organic olive oil in Montenegro. Here we walk through the olive trees and farm to learn about the farming and harvesting process. After we enjoy the flavors of locally produced foods, liqueurs and olive oil in the setting of an old olive press. When you make your next olive oil purchase back home you will know how to identify high quality olive oil. Returning to Budva we drive through the peninsula region and enjoy beautiful views of the bay. At the hotel enjoy some time before we have a sunset dinner at one of the local seaside restaurants, near the hotel.

Day 9 Budva>>Virpazar>>Budva

Ready for beautiful nature again? The largest lake in the Balkans is on our agenda today. We’ll begin in Virpazar, a small town on the shore of Skadar Lake, where we’ll board a boat, equipped with local wine and traditional bites, for a tour of the calm lake and learn about the important ecosystem of this wildlife wilderness and birders paradise. Back onshore we will visit a local family run restaurant in Virpazar for lunch. After you can stroll along the small fisherman’s village, take photographs, enjoy a coffee or shopping for souvenirs. On return to Budva our scenic route takes around the lake for beautiful views. Its day 9 now and you have seen quite a lot so let’s enjoy some free time before dinner. You’ll have the afternoon free to enjoy the old town, shop for local arts and crafts, or relax along the clear waters of the Adriatic.

Day 10 Budva>>Perast>>Kotor>>Budva

As if you haven’t seen enough stunning views, today we will be in the midst of some of the most stunning views of mountains meeting the sea you will ever see ANYWHERE! You won’t be able to put your camera down! Be sure to bring extra batteries. Our travels take us to the beautiful Boka Bay. Jacques Cousteau said “The part of the Adriatic Coast belonging to Montenegro is the purest part of the Mediterranean” Lord Byron said “At the moment of the creation of our planet, the most beautiful merging of land and sea occurred at the Montenegrin seaside” Visits to these picturesque cities will surely be one of the highlights of your trip. Our day will begin in Perast, one of the oldest towns in the Adriatic. There you’ll admire baroque palaces in this maritime village. You will board another boat which will take a short ride to the island of Our Lady of the Rocks where we will visit a church of the same name. On return to Perast we will enjoy a lovely seaside lunch in what will mostly likely be the most beautiful scenery you have ever experienced! Then we’ll depart to the UNESCO Heritage Site of Kotor. Kotor is one of the best preserved medieval villages. One can easily get lost here as the village street system was designed to confuse invading peoples! Its a charming town and a highlight of any tour to Montenegro. After a short tour enjoy free time to Photograph & explore the charming pedestrian only medieval city with its narrow alleys and streets, visit the museums, or shop for unique treasures. A short drive and we are back in Budva for a little free time before a dinner together at a local restaurant.

Day 11 Budva>>Trebinje>>Dubrovnik

Today we say goodbye to Montenegro and cross the border into Bosnia Herzegovina, heading to the small city of Trebinje. This riverfront city is home to 7 Austro-Hungarian era fortresses, a famous ottoman bridge, and beautiful monasteries. We’ll tour the Herzegovacka Gracanica monastery and Ottoman old city and have a chance to sample Bosnian wines. Our lunch will be at a local riverside restaurant after we visit Tvrdos Monastery for a wine tasting session. We continue and cross the border into Croatia proceeding to the famous city of Dubrovnik, one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic. You arrive to your seaside hotel where we reminisce about our experiences thus far and enjoy a dinner together. As the evening comes to a close you’ll be waiting with anticipation for your day in this exquisite medieval city tomorrow.

The final day of our time together will be spent touring the magnificent old town of Dubrovnik with its stunning architecture and sculptural detail of the old town, with its spectacular churches, monasteries, museums, palaces, and fountains set along the glistening Adriatic Sea. In the morning we start with the Old Town Walls walking tour. We continue with a tour inside the Old Town including the You’ll have free time to explore on your own. Tonight we’ll have our final dinner together; sharing memories and saying goodbye to our new friends. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

We are passionate about travel and believe a meaningful life must include rich memories, and travel to new places while experiencing  different cultures and people is key in achieving this. We are firm believers in the idea that great things happen when we step outside our comfort zone.  In 30 years of traveling and a long list of great experiences and memories I can honestly say this is true.

When developing our tours we spend alot of time with “boots on the ground” at the locations.  We are vetting our suppliers, evaluating risk, looking for new and interesting places to see, building experiences that will make great memories. We look back on 30 years of world travel and understand what makes a great travel experience.  We are a small business and are doing what we love and want to share the experience with others. Our groups are small 6- 10 persons which makes for a better touring experience.

Our philosophy on hotels is to book 4 & 5 star hotels and when possible choose hotels that are centrally located to allow a short walk to tourist ares with shopping and restaurants.  This way you can enjoy your free time easily.  There are times when 4 or 5 star is not available so we have to choose wisely in this case.

We love to try the local cuisine, wines and liqueurs that is why most of your meals are included. We think it is great to explore local restaurants and order from the menu and try to do this as much as possible.  We do not prefer to have “Half Board” meals at the hotel, however at times it makes sense, but we try our best to kept HB meals to a minimum.

Entry Requirements What are the entry requirements for these countries?

This tour visits Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Croatia. In order to enter these countries, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.

We recommend having at least two blank passport pages for entry stamps. There is no visa required for U.S. or Canadian citizens.

If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.

Transportation What type of transportation will we use?

Our groups are small so we use smaller coaches usually about 15 pax capacity.  They are able to travel down narrow roads providing better access.

Due to their size there are no toilets onboard these types of coaches however we make regular stops to ensure your comfort along the way . Often, we’ll break up a long transfer with an included walking tour in a location of interest en route to our destination, so you’ll have ample time to stretch your legs as well.

Occasionally we travel on private boats or ferry boats to reach our destination.  These can vary in size from 20 passenger private vessels to large ferry boats capable of hundreds of passengers.

Physical requirements How strenuous are the activities?

You will need physical stamina to participate unassisted in touring activities for 6 to 8 hours with walking distances of 3 to 5 miles. Up to 15000 steps or more. Of course we will take frequents breaks to enjoy the food and drink.

You will walk for at least 2 hours daily and up to 5 hrs on terrain of various types like cobble stone streets, uneven surfaces, forest/lake trails and at times some steep inclines.

You will need physical ability to handle your luggage getting into your hotel room, entering and exiting boats and boarding aircraft using stairs when a jetway in not available, which is common in these countries.

Luggage How much luggae can I bring?

You must be able to comfortably handle all your luggage by yourself at all times. Therefore, we strongly urge you to limit your luggage to one piece of luggage(of a size you can comfortably handle), a hand carry bag and a personal item.  Luggage the size of airline carry-on dimensions is strongly suggested as there may be times requiring you to carry your bag up stairs onto airplanes, etc.   Your luggage will need to fit in a taxi for short transfers.

Airports Are the arriving and departing airports service by major airlines?

Yes! As of this writing,  Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) (our arrival and departure airport) connects to many large European cities by these major airlines and their US partners: British Airways (OneWorld – American Airlines); Austrian, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines (Star Alliance – United Airlines).

Photo / Video What is photo / video instruction?

Photo & Video instruction is short lessons provided by us to you throughout the tour to help you improve your photography and videography skills.  They may include lessons on Composition, Lighting, or posing for example.

Shopping Will there be time for shopping?

Yes! We carefully plan our tours to assure that the pace isn’t too busy or too idle. You’ll have free time to shop or to simply relax in the lovely surroundings. Today you'll fly from the UK to Dubrovnik, where you'll meet your tour manager, before following the scenic route north to your hotel in Drvenik, a coastal town on the shores of the Adriatic.

Once you've checked in, you'll have some free time to get to know your surroundings and spend a first evening on the shores of the Adriatic, perhaps enjoying a nightcap under the stars.

Today you'll discover Croatia's historic second city, Split. This beautiful city is home to a lively and colourful old town and the palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian, one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world.

After you've toured Split, you'll cross to the nearby island town of Trogir over a bridge and through a Land Gate, where you'll enter a time-warped jumble of palaces, ancient churches and hidden courtyards. You'll visit the Romanesque cathedral and wander the narrow streets and seafront promenade before returning to your hotel.

Your tour today will take you to the breathtaking Krka National Park, where you'll witness tumbling waterfalls, deep gorges and picturesque lakes.

This beautiful National Park stretches some 12 miles up a lavender-clad valley from the delightful harbour town of Skradin with its stone-built houses and colourful waterfront. You'll have the chance to wander along wooden walkways through the lush forests at your own pace.

After a final breakfast at your hotel this morning, you'll check out and travel south past the River Neretva delta, a wildlife paradise home to several endangered bird species, on the way to Bosnia-Herzegovina and historic Mostar.

You'll have the chance to explore this colourful, UNESCO-listed town, where the most famous landmark is the lovingly restored mediaeval bridge that spans the river, and which boasts one of Europe's oldest continuously trading markets.

You'll get to know delightful Dubrovnik today, a city known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. You'll explore its captivating, mediaeval old town on a guided walking tour, where highlights will include the Franciscan Monastery, and the Rector's Palace, the seat of the government in the former Dubrovnik Republic.

Welcome to our 8-day tour of the breathtaking Croatian and Montenegrin coastline! 

This trip will thoroughly explore the Croatian and Montenegrin parts of the Adriatic sea. During this trip, we will take you on a journey from the charming city of Split to the picturesque town of Kotor, with stops in some of the most beautiful and iconic locations along the way, such as Dubrovnik, the islands of Korcula and Hvar and so much more.

You will start in Split, a city known for its rich history and beautiful beaches, before taking a ferry to the island of Hvar to explore one of the most beautiful Croatian islands. 

On Hvar, you can relax on its stunning beaches and explore its charming old town. You will then continue your journey towards Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. On the way to Dubrovnik, we will explore the beautiful Peljesac peninsula, the town of Ston, and Korcula island.

After a few days in Dubrovnik, you will cross the border into Montenegro and visit the coastal town of Budva before ending your trip in Kotor, a charming town nestled in the Bay of Kotor. 

Along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit ancient Roman ruins and medieval castles and sample the delicious local cuisine. So pack your bags and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime!

• Sarajevo Most convenient arrival point is Split International Airport ( SPT ), but you are free to require this package to start from Dubrovnik ( DBV ), Tivat ( TIV ) or Podgorica ( TGD ) as well.

DAY 1: Arrival and Explore Split

Destination: Split, Croatia Accommodation: 4* Hotel Driving Time: 0.30hrs | Private Vehicle

Arrival Note: Depending on your arrival time to Split on the first day, we shall check you into your 4* accommodation, and we are ready to do some exciting explorations of the Split.

We’ll start the day with a visit to the historical Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. It was built in the 4th century as a retirement home for the Roman Emperor Diocletian. On the locally guided walking tour, we’ll explore the Temple of Jupiter, the Peristyle, the Basement Halls, the Cathedral of St.Dominus, and other ancient remains while walking the narrow streets of the palace’s underground cellars. 

Later we’ll head to the Split Riva, the city’s main promenade, and take in the stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. An optional stop at one of the many coffee shops or restaurants along the Riva to enjoy a refreshing drink or snack is very recommended.

We recommend finishing the day in the evening with a relaxing dinner at one of the city’s many seafood restaurants and enjoying some of the freshest seafood on the Adriatic Coast.

DAY 2: Explore Trogir, Solin, and Split sunny beaches

Activity Note: Today’s itinerary includes walking on uneven terrain. Make sure to have some water with you, and always pay attention to the present-day weather forecast.

After a delicious breakfast at your 4* accommodation, we are exploring the historic city of Trogir, which is about 20 minutes outside Split. 

Trogir is known for its narrow streets, medieval architecture, and picturesque squares. During our locally guided walking tour, we will learn that the ancient Greeks founded Trogir and has a rich history dating back over 2,000 years.

Trogir is home to several important landmarks, including the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, the Cipiko Palace, and the Kamerlengo Fortress. The city is known for its fine arts and culture, and it is home to several galleries, museums, and theaters.

After the walking tour, you will have some free time to explore Trogir on your own and lunch break. Trogir is known for its delicious seafood, and it is a great place to try some of the region’s specialties, such as grilled octopus or seafood risotto.

In the afternoon we are driving to Solin. 

Solin is a small city located in the Split-Dalmatia County of Croatia. It is located just a few kilometers northwest of Split and is known for its rich history and cultural heritage.

The city was founded by the ancient Romans and was known as Salona. It was once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and was an important center of trade and commerce. Solin is home to several important landmarks, including the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheater and the Basilica of St. Mary.

At Solin, we give you free time to explore ancient Roman ruins.

On the way back to Split, we can optionally visit the stunning Klis fortress. 

Klis Fortress is a medieval castle located in the Croatian region of Dalmatia. The fortress was built in the 9th century and has played an essential role in defending the area from invaders over the centuries. It has played a role in many important events in Croatian history, including the Croatian-Hungarian Wars and the Ottoman Wars.

It is located on a hill overlooking the city of Split and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

The afternoon is your free time for either exploring Split further on your own or having some leisure time on one of Split’s sunny beaches.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE FREE TIME IN SPLIT?

• Walk to the peak of Marjan Hill

Marjan, the hill overlooking Split, with the highest peak of 178 meters, has always been the most impressive part of the image of Split. On the one hand, it is rarely possible to experience such a harmony of nature and urbanism, a densely populated city in all its splendor, and on the other, a peninsula of almost untouched nature. The Holy Hill, as it is often called, hides many monuments of sacred and profane architecture, combined with this green oasis in such a way that they create a feeling of admiration and awe even for the everyday passer-by.

• Play Picigin at Bačvice beach

Bačvice beach, the most popular in Split, is well known for Picigin, a game included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. Picigin is played in shallow water. Players throw the ball to each other with acrobatics. The ball must not fall into the sea. The game’s goal is to keep the ball in the air as long as possible. If you don’t decide to play, there are cocktail bars and nightclubs nearby for relaxing and enjoying the game played by locals and tourists as well.

• Visit the Best of Split Beaches

Žnjan is the largest beach in Split, ideal for families with children. Bene is a beach located at the foot of Marjan hill. The exceptional natural beauty of the Marjan Forest characterizes it. The beach is almost entirely located in the forest, meaning there is plenty of natural shade. Kasjuni is a large pebble beach, a favorite among visitors and locals. It is located on the southern side of Marjan, a few kilometers away from Ben. Many people consider Kasjune the most beautiful beach in Split. Firule is located between Žnjan and Bačvici. Just like Bačvice, Firule is a sandy beach ideal for picigin.

• Explore Splits Museums and Galleries

Visit the Split City Museum, located in the heart of the city, and showcases the city’s rich history and cultural heritage. Check out the Split Art Gallery, home to a collection of Croatian and international art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Visit the Split Archaeological Museum, which is located in the heart of the city and features a collection of ancient artifacts from the region.

DAY 3: Plitvice National Park & Zadar

Spending a day exploring the stunning landscapes of Plitvice National Park and the historic city of Zadar is a must-do for anyone visiting Croatia.

We are leaving Split to Plitvice National Park in the early morning. The journey takes about 2 hours and takes you through the beautiful Croatian countryside.

Plitvice National Park is a stunning natural area located in the heart of Croatia. It is known for its beautiful waterfalls, lakes, and hiking trails and is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Plitvice National Park has several important landmarks, including the Great Waterfall and the Upper Lakes. The park’s hiking trails offer a variety of difficulty levels, so there is something for everyone, whether you are an experienced hiker or just looking for a leisurely walk through the forest.

In addition to its natural beauty, Plitvice National Park also has a rich history. It was established as a national park in 1949 and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. It is a must-see destination for any visitor to Croatia, and it offers something for everyone, from nature lovers to history buffs.

After exploring Plitvice National Park, you’ll have the opportunity to have lunch at one of the Lika region’s stunning local restaurants.

In the afternoon, you’ll leave Plitvice National Park and head to Zadar, located about 1.5 hours away. 

Upon arriving in Zadar, on the walking tour, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the city’s many landmarks, such as the Sea Organ (a unique musical instrument is located on the city’s waterfront and consists of a series of tubes and pipes that create music as the waves of the sea pass through them), the Greeting to the Sun (interactive light installation is located on the city’s waterfront and consists of a series of solar panels that create a light show as the sun sets), the St. Anastasia Cathedral (the beautiful cathedral is located in the heart of the city and features a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architecture), the Zadar City Walls (ancient walls were built in the 9th century and offer panoramic views of the city and the sea) and, the Zadar Riva (famous waterfront promenade runs along the edge of the city and offers stunning views of the Adriatic Sea).

In the later afternoon, you will have some free time in Zadar to explore the city on your own, have sunset drinks at Zadar Riva or have a late afternoon lunch dinner.

After a full day of exploring, you’ll head back to your accommodation in Split and relax after a memorable day of sightseeing. Free evening and dinner on your own.

DAY 4: Explore Hvar

For the next two days, we are exploring the magnificent island of Hvar.

Hvar is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian coast, less than two hours ferry ride away from Split.

It is the most extended island in the Adriatic Sea and is known for its stunning beaches, crystal clear waters, and Mediterranean charm. The island has a rich history, with ancient Greek and Roman influences and a long wine-making tradition.

Hvar Town, the island's main settlement, is a popular tourist destination for its beautiful squares, charming streets, and a 13th-century fortress overlooking the town.

Upon arrival on the island and docking at the ferry harbor in Stari Grad, we shall have a locally guided tour Hvar town. Beautifully preserved Venetian architecture, Hvar's port, fortress Fortica, and the magical St.Stephen square with nearby Paklinski islands make the Hvar island the most visited of all southern Dalmatian islands.

After pleasant explorations of the Hvar island's main two towns and delicious lunch, we shall check into our accommodation in the afternoon. The later afternoon is free for some great beach time at some of the beautiful beaches of Hvar island.

Aside of being known for its cultural and historical monuments, Hvar is also known for its endless fields of the prized Hvar lavender, an excellent gastronomic offer with top wines (Hvar's Plavac is widely known), and the beauty of the nearby Paklinski Islands. and so much more.

If you are doing summertime explorations of Hvar, an unmissable experience could be a visit to the famous Paklinski islands for beach time or party time at one of the local bars and clubs.

DAY 5: Beach Day or Optionally Further Explore Hvar

Activity Note: During the summer time from the 1st of April until the 31st of August, there is a direct catamaran (passenger boat) line between Hvar and Korčula, so instead of using the main road, we shall be doing a direct catamaran ride from Hvar to Korčula.

In the early morning, we leave the northern part of the island of Hvar, and during a 45-minute drive, we arrive at its southernmost part small village of Sućuraj, where we catch the ferry to Drvenik.

The 24km Hvar road passes through picturesque villages and constantly offers beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea.

As soon as we reach the mainland, we continue south towards Dubrovnik. But before that, on the way to Dubrovnik, we will stop at another unmissable island on the Adriatic coast, the beautiful island of Korčula.

To get to Korčula, we have to take another short ferry ride from the town of Orebić to Korcula.

The town of Korčula, also known as “Little Dubrovnik,” is the home of Marco Polo, is the island’s main settlement, and is one of its biggest attractions. The Old Town of Korčula is a well-preserved, medieval walled town that is home to several historical landmarks and monuments, such as the Cathedral of St. Mark and the Bishop’s Palace.

A locally guided walking tour of Korcula town, followed by free time on your own for tasty lunch or drinks at some of the fantastic Korčula bars and cafes, is a must-have.

Later, we catch the ferry back to Orebić, and on the way to Dubrovnik, we will have a short stop at Ston and optionally visit the magnificent Walls of Ston.

Ston is known for its well-preserved medieval walls, which are the second longest in Europe after the Great Wall of China. The walls, which were built in the 14th century, stretch for about 5 km and offer stunning views of the surrounding area. Walking the whole length of the walls or just part is up to you.

Ston is also known for its oysters grown in the nearby Mali Ston Bay. If desired, an early dinner be the local oysters in one of the few Ston restaurants.

Arrival to Dubrovnik is in the afternoon, checking into your hotel and free time for the rest of the evening.

WHEN YOU HAVE FREE EVENING IN DUBROVNIK

Since the arrival in Dubrovnik is in the late afternoon, you can spend the evening time after checking into the hotel in one of the following ways, which we wholeheartedly recommend:

• Dinner or Drinks in the Dubrovnik Old Town

Late evening hours are great for exploring the old town of Dubrovnik, as the crowds are less and most cruise ships have finished their visits and probably sailed on. That is why, for evening explorations of Dubrovnik, we especially recommend that you have dinner with a drink or two in one of Dubrovnik’s excellent restaurants on the recommendation of your Funky Tours guide. A late evening walk after dinner is a great addition.

• Sunset Drinks at the Buža Bar or at the Srđ fort

Buža bar is located on the southern part of the walls of the old city of Dubrovnik. Buža literally means hole, so you can get to the bar of the same name by passing through one of the holes in the city walls. The views of the cliffs, the beautiful Adriatic Sea, and incredible sunsets are almost unbelievable.

Alternatively, you can take a ride on the Dubrovnik cable car and visit the Srđ hill above the city of Dubrovnik. In addition to superb views of the city and the Adriatic Sea, on Srđ hill you can also see the Austro-Hungarian fortress with a museum, which was one of the most important fortifications during the Serbian-Montenegrin aggression and attack on the city of Dubrovnik in 1991.

DAY 7: Explore Dubrovnik

Today we are exploring the town of Dubrovnik, a city of walls and a favorite stop for fans of Game of Thrones. After a delicious breakfast, we will head towards exploring the medieval core of the old town of Dubrovnik with our local host and resident, who will introduce us to the city, its culture, history, and people in depth while discovering the 1400-year history of the town. 

We will navigate the old town labyrinth through the white limestone-paved streets and admire the crowning walls and medieval homes surrounded by 15th-century fortification walls for at least a few hours. 

You will have a chance to visit the gothic-renaissance Rector’s Palace; the baroque-style Cathedral of the Assumption, built in the 18th century; and the landmark Bell Tower, which looms 31 meters over Luza Square, etc., and learn every important story this city can tell.

The afternoon and rest of the day, we will let you soak up the DNA of the Dubrovnik on your own. 

Whether you prefer taking a cable car to the craggy Mt. Srdj, walking the Dubrovnik city walls, discovering the spots where your favorite TV show, Game of Thrones, was filmed, or simply prefer some relaxing time enjoying this Adriatic pearl at the beach, waiting for spectacular sunset colors, Dubrovnik will never fail to disappoint you.

WHEN YOU HAVE FREE AFTERNOON IN DUBROVNIK

• Walk the Dubrovnik Walls

Walking around the walls of Dubrovnik in the late afternoon is a unique experience. During summer, avoid the crowds and the heat and climb the walls after 5 o’clock.

• Dubrovnik Sea Snorkeling and Kayaking Tour

Experience Dubrovnik from the seaside on an afternoon kayak tour. Together with a local guide and equipment for kayaking and snorkeling, paddle and swim next to the medieval walls of Dubrovnik, and explore hidden beaches and caves. A warm recommendation is a kayak tour in the evening hours, when you can experience the unique sunset on the walls of Dubrovnik.

DAY 8: Exploring Kotor and the Coastline of Montenegro

Destination: Dubrovnik (alternatively Kotor – Split – Sarajevo) Accommodation: Not included in package price. The tour ends on the evening of day 8. Meals Included: Breakfast

Activity Note: This is the last day of the Adriatic Coastline Journey, meaning the tour ends in the afternoon hours of Day 8. The standard end of the tour is Dubrovnik or Kotor, but you can also opt to end in Split, Tirana, or Sarajevo.

A day trip from Dubrovnik to Perast and Kotor is a great way to see some beautiful and historic towns along the Montenegrin coast. After leaving Dubrovnik in the early morning, a 1.30-hour ride will take us across the border of Croatia to Montenegro, where the first town we visit is the beautiful town of Perast.

Perast is a baroque village in the municipality of Kotor with its two stunning islets: Sveti Djordje (St. George) as a natural one and Gospa od Škrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks) as an artificial one. Historically crucial for its naval history, Perast strategically stands opposite of the only water entrance to Kotor bay.

After a pleasant short walk through Perast village, we are ready to take a short boat ride to the islet of Our Lady of the Rocks. Today, the islet with its church, beautiful frescoes, and a small museum is one of the biggest attractions of the Bay of Kotor.

This activity will take around 30-40min, and once we are back to Perast, we will continue exploring other unique parts of the Montenegro coastline.

After thoroughly enjoying our time in Perast and its beautiful islands, after just 15min of additional driving, we are arriving to Kotor.

The tour of Kotor will take us via hidden cobble-stoned streets, giving us an opportunity for an in-depth understanding of Kotor’s history and cultural background. In the present day, originating from the Venetian era but mentioned initially during the Roman era as a strategic position on the Adriatic sea, the Kotor, throughout its nearly two millennia-long histories, has been through many ups and downs. Since Romans, followed by Illyirians, Slavs, Hungarians, Serbian, Venetians, French, Austrians, Yugoslavians, and today finally part of modern Montenegro, the Kotor has seen many empires passing by while leaving part of their history engraved within heavily fortified walls of Kotor.

Learning specifics about the past and presence of Kotor while admiring the narrow stone streets, stone churches, stone walls, high mountains above, small windows with drying laundry, a ton of cats, hidden bars and cafes, and so much more, is a great way to experience UNESCO heritage of Kotor town.

The afternoon hours are accessible on your own to explore Kotor.

Return to Dubrovnik is in the later afternoon when the tour officially ends.

Day 1 UK - Dubrovnik

Depart on your flight to Dubrovnik today. On arrival, we'll transfer you to your hotel, which is perfectly located just a short walk from the city's Old Town and a stretch of pebbly beach.

Day 2 Dubrovnik

Today's sightseeing starts with a guided walking tour through Dubrovnik's maze of narrow streets. We'll take in views from the imposing city walls and see the Franciscan Monastery and its historic pharmacy. Other highlights are the former Rector's Palace, which is now a museum, and the 17th century cathedral, which houses many treasures. There's so much to see in Dubrovnik, so exploring further at your own pace is highly recommended this afternoon. You might choose to take a journey by cable car from the Old Town to the peak of Mount Srd, for fantastic views. You could head to the nearby beach or if you're a fan of Game of Thrones, why not join our optional excursion to the Old Town. Many scenes from the popular TV series were filmed here, and we'll show you all the highlights, making you feel like an extra from the show.

Day 3 Elafiti Islands Cruise

A fantastic day out is included today – a cruise to the lovely beaches of the Elafiti Islands, which are backed by lush pine forests. You'll step ashore on Sipan, the largest of these unspoilt gems, where Renaissance villas built by Dubrovnik's wealthiest families as summer retreats enhance the landscape. Back on the vessel, we will have time for lunch. Next, we're going to set sail for Lopud, where a walk to the hilltop Franciscan Monastery will reward us with gorgeous views over the islands. We'll also step inside, where we can view a fine collection of altar paintings. Before an included dinner at the hotel this evening, why not head into town for a glass or two of Croatian wine. You'll be spoilt for choice by the selection of bars tucked away in the narrow alleyways and along the picturesque harbour.

Day 4 Dubrovnik - Budva

We're on the road this morning, travelling along the Croatian coast to the beautiful bays of Montenegro and the medieval city of Kotor. Here you can explore the Old Town's tiny alleys, which are overshadowed by towering cliffs and the high walls of ancient stone houses. You'll also have time to head to one of the squares where you can sit with a cool drink and enjoy splendid views of the Boka Mountains. As we journey further south to Budva, enjoy more stunning scenery of clear lakes and dramatic mountain peaks. Your hotel is located in Budva, situated on the main promenade and close to the Old Town and Marina, so why not enjoy a stroll this evening.

Day 5 Montenegro

You'll get to know Montenegro on today's included tour, which starts with a drive along the curvy road on the slopes of Mount Lovcen to Njegusi village. We'll make a stop at a restaurant to sample some cheese and wine and then head to Cetinje, the Old Royal capital of Montenegro. Highlights here include the Old Town and the Monastery of Cetinje, and you'll also have some free time to simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. On the way back, we will pause to take in views of Budva's Riviera and the seaside resort islet of Sveti Stefan.

Day 6 Budva - at Leisure

Day 7 budva - at leisure.

You can relax and do your own thing today, whether that's soaking up the sun on the beach or heading back into Becici to shop for souvenirs. Tonight, you're invited to a restaurant for a special farewell dinner with local specialities on the menu.

Day 8 Dubrovnik - UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Split; transfer to Hvar

The first day of our tour begins with a walk through the bustling city of Split, one of the Adriatic's most vibrant ports of call. Through the centuries, it has changed hands between Greeks and Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, and Austrians (among others), but perhaps the city's greatest claim to fame is its enormous, 3rd-century Palace of Diocletian. Created as the Roman emperor's retirement home, the structure is an important example of transitional style, comprising an imperial villa, Hellenistic town, and Roman camp.

Lunch today is an introduction to Mediterranean cuisine; with a wide variety of local cheeses, prosciutto, pogaca, local flatbread reminiscent of Focaccia, and a selection of extra virgin olive oil.

This afternoon, we board a ferry to the island of Hvar and enjoy a panoramic ride overlooking the blue Mediterranean. We end the day at our boutique hotel, offering panoramic views of the town and the marina. Our day concludes with a welcome dinner at a beautiful local restaurant.

Pakleni Islands, or Velo Grablje to Malo Grablje

• Activity Level: Easy to moderate
• Activity Length: 2-3 hours kayaking, or 2-hour hike

This morning, we take to the Adriatic for an optional sea kayaking excursion to the Pakleni Islands, an emerald archipelago just a short distance from the town of Hvar. Here, white-pebble beaches and secluded coves are dotted with Aleppo pines, once an important source of resin used for centuries as a protective coating for the islands' sea-faring galleys.

For those who prefer to explore inland, a hike will be offered from the hamlet of Velo Grablje to Malo Grablje, an abandoned stone village that preserves important examples of Croatian architecture dating from the 9th through the 12th centuries.

Later today, we return to Hvar for a stroll inside the city's 13th-century walls to its sprawling central square, Trg Svetog Stjepana. Here we enjoy a talk with the island's foremost aromatherapist.

As the day wanes, you may choose to visit many of the little artisan shops in town, or make the climb up to Fortress Španjol, a medieval citadel built to defend the city against the Turks. Here the views of Hvar's Old Town and sunset are unparalleled.

Brac Island

• Activity Overview: Hiking
• Activity Length: Approximately 3 hours, 2.5 miles

Today we cruise to Brac island, the largest island in Central Dalmatia and third largest in the Adriatic. The picturesque island, dotted with old olive trees and vineyards, is best known for its white stone. Quarries on the island have been a source of white marble since the Roman times and have been used in the construction of Diocletian Palace in Split, and some also say, the White House.

Our private boat will take us to a secluded bay on the south side of Brac Island from where we begin our hike. We walk inland to the Blaca Monastery, an old hermitage of the priests of the Glagolitic Order, and one of the biggest highlights of the island. After a guided tour of this impressive structure in the middle of the forest, we drive to Gazul, an abandoned shepherd's village, where we can try a traditional dish called peka at our friend's tavern.

After lunch, we take in the best view of the Adriatic, since Brac holds the title of the highest peak of any island, followed by a wine tasting in the trendy town of Bol.

We return to the island of Hvar this evening for dinner on your own.

Korcula Island

• Activity Length: Morning: 1.5 hours, approximately 2.5 miles; Afternoon city walk: 1-2 hours

We start our day with a 1-hour ferry ride to Vela Luka on Korcula Island, known for its pristine beaches, a high-quality white wine variety (locally known as Grk), and most extraordinary of all, as the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo.

Once at Vela Luka, we hike up to Vela Spilja, a magical cave formation situated just above the town. We explore the cave's fascinating archeological sites, including traces of Neanderthal life which have been found here. Our appetite for lunch will be satisfied at Konoba Mate in Pupnat, a small village at the center of the island. This rustic restaurant is the perfect location for us to enjoy some delicious local food.

We finish our day with a walking tour of the town, where we wander through Korcula's old city walls, streets, and buildings. We visit ancient sites such as the St. Mark's Cathedral and the Marco Polo Museum.

From Korcula, we ferry to Orebic, a charming resort town where we check in at the beach-front, Hotel Indijan.

Hotel Indijan Orebic, Croatia

A contemporary feel pervades this well-designed hotel. Rooms are modern and well equipped, and some have balconies with views over the Adriatic to Korcula. The small circular heated pool has a retractable glass roof, so it’s usable all year round. We start another adventure-filled day, with a hike on the Peljesac Peninsula. Under breathtaking views of Mt. Ilija and the archipelago, we pass by the Franciscan monastery and the votive Gothic-Renaissance church of Our Lady of the Angels in Orebic, two iconic landmarks of this region.

Next, we make our way to the picturesque town of Ston, where we enjoy a traditional Dalmatian lunch, perhaps savoring the taste of fresh oysters, before walking along the walls surrounding the town. These walls, considered to be some of the longest defensive walls in Europe, connect the towns of Ston and Mali Ston while providing stunning views of the surrounding area.

This afternoon, we embark on a scenic coastal drive to Tivat in Montenegro, with panoramic views of the beautiful coastline. As we near Tivat, we see the magnificent entrance to the Bay of Kotor, which has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its unique blend of both natural and cultural elements.

This evening is yours to explore one of the many fine restaurants in town. Your guide will be happy to make recommendations.

Kotor Bay & Perast

After a delicious breakfast, we gather in the lobby of our hotel in Tivat, ready to embark on an exciting tour around the bay of Kotor, revealing some of the most breathtaking scenery of the entire Western Balkans' coastline.

Our first stop is the old town of Kotor, where we explore the historic architecture, winding alleyways and charming squares that give the town its unique character. We learn about the rich history of the town, which has been shaped by centuries of influences from various cultures and religions. Our local guide tells us about the cultural and gastronomic elements, such as the famous smoked ham and delicious seafood dishes that the region is known for.

After exploring the old town, we make our way up along the walls above town. The views are breathtaking, with panoramic vistas over the bay and the surrounding mountains. As we hike along the steps and trails, we feel invigorated and inspired by the beauty that surrounds us.

Once back in town, we are greeted by our skipper Zdravko, who takes us on a private boat ride to the picturesque coastal town of Perast. We relax and enjoy the stunning views of the bay as we zip across the water, and Zdravko regales us with tales of local legends and historical events that have shaped the region. On the boat, we enjoy a delicious fish picnic prepared by our skilled chef, who uses local ingredients and traditional recipes to create a mouth-watering feast. We sip on local wines and beers, enjoying the delicious food and convivial atmosphere as we soak in the sun and the sea.

We disembark in Verige, where we say goodbye to Zdravko and the crew, and return to our hotel in Tivat for some down time before dinner. We end our day at dinner overlooking the Adriatic Sea, reflecting on the incredible experiences we've had exploring the hidden treasures of Kotor Bay.

Saying goodbye to Tivat and Montenegro, we start our day with a hike up Mt. Srd, which overlooks the beautiful city of Dubrovnik. Once we reach the summit, we take a moment to breathe in the fresh mountain air and take in the stunning panoramic views. As we descend the mountain, the view of the old city, with the Adriatic Sea as a backdrop, becomes more and more breathtaking. Once in Dubrovnik we check into our hotel for some downtime, to relax and prepare for the second half of the day.

Eager to explore this historical city and its ancient landmarks, we venture out for a city tour around Dubrovnik old town. The city's fascinating history comes alive as we walk through the ancient streets and observe the magnificent architecture and the ancient walls, which are even more stunning in person than in photographs.

As we walk, the aroma of fresh seafood and the sound of traditional music fill the air. We settle in at a famous local restaurant in the old city center to savor the local gastronomy and enjoy the lively atmosphere, for our farewell dinner. The ambiance is perfect for taking in the spirit of the city over a delicious Mediterranean meal, raising our glasses with our guides one last time to toast to our unforgettable journey through Croatia and Montenegro.

Boundless Journeys' trips are designed for energetic and flexible individuals who like to be active and have a spirit of adventure and a positive attitude. Croatia & Montenegro: Treasures of the Dalmatian Coast is rated 2, easy to moderate, on a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being the most strenuous). Croatia's calm coastal waters are ideal for sea kayaking, while its island trails offer moderate hikes at elevations up to 600 feet.

The optional kayak excursion suitable for beginner and expert kayakers alike; no previous experience is necessary. Our hikes range from 1 to 4 hours (2 to 6 miles) on good trails, and our sea kayaking adventure is 2-3 hours in length.

The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot summers, and short, mild winters. The weather in the beginning and end of the summer, and into the early fall, is usually very pleasant with daytime temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and the 60s at night. While these months are not in Croatia's "rainy season" there can be cool breezes or showers at any time. Please come prepared to walk - rain or shine. Late spring to early summer and late summer to early fall tend to be the best times to visit Croatia, avoiding both the hottest months and peak tourist season of mid-summer. Mountainous areas can be cool, especially in the evening. A swim in the sea is possible from April to October, with water temperatures increasing throughout the summer months.

Montenegro and Croatia both offer a rich and diverse cuisine influenced by their geographical location, history, and cultural heritage. While there are similarities between their culinary traditions, each country also has its unique dishes and flavors.

Ancient Wonders of Split

Your tour of Split’s ancient landmarks begins with the magnificent palace of Emperor Diocletian c . Built between the late 3 rd and early 4 th centuries, the outlines of this vast palace form the heart of the Old City today. A startling portion of the palatial complex is remarkably well preserved, and it is the most valuable example of ancient Roman architecture on the eastern coast of the Adriatic. Your tour also includes Peristil Square; now the city’s popular main square, this was in Diocletian’s time the entry hall to his palace, and it was here that the Emperor would address Roman citizens.   After sightseeing, enjoy lunch on your own and a free afternoon to continue exploring at your own pace. Outside the Palace, you will find charming piazzas and a beautiful waterfront with inviting restaurants and cafes. A Day Trip to the Island of Hvar c

After breakfast, board the ferry for a scenic cruise to the island of Hvar. Enjoy a guided walking tour in this historic coastal town, a strategic harbor for Venice’s mighty Adriatic fleet from the 12th through 18th centuries. Learn about Hvar’s impressive landmarks including the Cathedral of St. Stephen, built in the early 1600’s on the site of an earlier 9th-century church. After some free time to explore the town’s ancient cobbled streets on your own, we’ll take you to a vineyard estate for a tour and luncheon. Later this afternoon, board the return ferry to Split and enjoy the balance of your evening to dine and relax as you wish.  Meals B+L

Mostar + Sarajevo

Leaving Split behind, you’ll journey this morning across the border into Bosnia & Herzegovina to explore the historic town of Mostar. Set against a rugged mountain backdrop along the meandering Neretva River, Mostar grew from a simple riverside crossing into an important settlement and provincial capital of the Ottoman Empire. Delve into the region’s complex and often turbulent history as you explore the town’s historic quarter, graced with finely restored Ottoman-era buildings including the 500-year-old mosque.   You’ll also see the celebrated Stari Most (Old Bridge) c , originally built in the 16th century and then reconstructed after its near total destruction in 1993. Continue to the inviting President Hotel , centrally located in the Old Town section of Sarajevo. This evening, we’ll take you to a local restaurant to sample the regional cuisine.  Meals B+L+D

Get to Know Sarajevo

Join your guide after breakfast for an enlightening tour starting at the Sarajevo Freedom Tunnel Museum. Originally extending for nearly 900 yards, this hand-dug tunnel supplied arms and food during the 3-year siege. Much of the tunnel has since collapsed, but this fascinating museum includes a 65-foot section of the original tunnel as well as the shell-pounded house that hid the tunnel entrance; it’s a sobering yet inspiring look at how residents survived the Siege of Sarajevo   Returning to the city center, your walking tour includes the historic Latin Bridge, also known as the Princip Bridge. Built by the Ottomans, it was here that Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in 1914. This of course sparked a war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia which then escalated into World War I. You’ll also see the Emperor’s Mosque, built in 1457 after the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia, and the Franciscan Monastery of St. Anthony. After sightseeing, the balance of your afternoon is free to explore and enjoy as you wish. This evening’s dinner offers another opportunity to sample Bosnian cuisine.  Meals B+D

Onward to Tivat

Leaving Sarajevo behind this morning, we’ll venture into the lush mountain landscapes of Sutjeska National Park to visit the Tjentište War Memorial. Erected in the 1970’s, this striking and evocative monument pays tribute to the Yugoslavian forces and civilians who lost their lives in the Battle of Sutjeska, one of the bloodiest World War II battles in Yugoslavia. Then continue onward to Trebinje, a pleasant riverside town in the southwest corner of Bosnia & Herzegovina. We’ll stop here for lunch before traveling across the border into Montenegro. Our destination is the inviting town of Tivat, situated on the Bay of Kotor. Check in to the luxurious Regent Porto Montenegro for a leisurely 3-night stay.  Meals B+L

Kotor + Luštica Peninsula

After breakfast, we’ll take you to nearby Kotor. Wedged between rugged forested mountains and the blue waters of Kotor Bay, this handsome 13th-century town is filled with winding cobblestone streets and gracious old architecture. Accompanied by our engaging guide, you’ll discover and tour the Cathedral of St. Tryphon, an impressive landmark that traces its history to 1166. You’ll have free time to experience Kotor’s charms at your own pace; active travelers may wish to ascend the old city walls that wind their way up the surrounding slopes. Even if you don’t go very far, the views are rewarding! From Kotor, continue along the spectacular Luštica Peninsula, known for its artisanal food products and wine. Visit an olive estate to experience firsthand the region’s timeless agrarian ways and sample some of the local farm-fresh fare. Then return to Tivat on the Bay of Kotor where you’ll have free time to enjoy Porto Montenegro: Home to multi-million dollar super yachts and a lovely promenade lined with inviting boutiques and cafes, this is one of the most prestigious marina developments on the Adriatic Sea. Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

There are plenty of places throughout Croatia where you can exchange or take out money from ATMs. But make sure to switch back to your own currency before leaving, you may get a better rate in Croatia then in the U.S.

Winter in Croatia varies by region. At its coastline, the region has a mediterranean climate and remains relatively warm. Dubrovnik is perfect for those who love celebrating the holidays but cannot stand the cold. Dubrovnik’s Christmas Fair celebrates with live music, local foods, and performances. For those looking for something sweet, Opatija hosts their annual Chocolate Festival every December.

Moving inland, the weather gets much colder. Croatia’s central and northern regions usually have snow by the end of December. Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, also has a Christmas Fair in Ban Josip Jelačić Square where you can celebrate with live performance and music.

Plitvice National Park can be visited in the winter, but it should be noted that bad weather conditions can sometimes cause the rangers to close off certain parts of it. When the conditions are mild and pleasant, the park truly looks like a winter wonderland.  

Spring time weather throughout Croatia is relatively mild and warm. It is also far less busy with tourist. In central Croatia, the weather varies slightly between warm and cool temperatures. This is largely due to frequent winds that blow prominently during this time of the year. At its coastline, there are also frequent winds, but the weather is much warmer.

Throughout Croatia, there are numerous festivals that celebrate the blooming vegetation. In April, Dubrovnik’s FestiWine has become a popular activity for locals and visitors alike.   Zagreb has the Floraart International Garden Show and International Street Festival every May. And the Flower Fair of Zadar every April is a must-see.

With the recently melted snow, Croatia’s national parks are in prime conditions. Its waterfalls are in full force, the landscape has an endless array of shrubbery, and the wildlife is full of mothers raising their young.

Croatia is mostly warm and sunny during its summer months. However, occasional rain is common, especially in central and northern Croatia. The height of Croatia’s tourism season is also within these months. If you want to miss the crowds, then go in late May or early June. By July and August, it is at peak season for tourism.

But, there are some pros to traveling during tourism high season. The weather is usually constantly warm. This means that nothing will be closed off at any of the national parks. It is also good for getting around. Because of the influx of visitors, most bus and boat routes add more times to their schedule.

Fall in Croatia gets the tail end of the summer craziness. The weather is warm, but it isn’t unbearably hot. Most destinations and attractions are slightly less crowded.

Plus, most cities are celebrating the autumn season in some festive way. By the coastline, the water is still warm and there is plenty of sunshine. The national parks are just as lovely and transportation is still easily accessible.

Split (1 night)

Your luxury Croatia tour starts with your international flight arrival into Split, the country’s second-largest city. You will be greeted by your personal guide and taken by private transfer to your hotel located in the heart of the Diocletian’s Palace. Your boutique hotel, with exposed ancient walls from the three adjacent palaces combining Roman, Gothic and Renaissance styles, is the perfect starting point for your Dalmatian experience. Enjoy a light walking tour through the old city, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore Split’s living monuments which date back to 293 AD.

Hvar (2 nights)

Step on to your private motorboat and depart for your full day adventure around the Dalmatian Islands with your personal captain and guide. You will pass Komiža, located on the western coast of Vis Island, where you will see horseshoe bays and crumbling 17th century townhouses lining the coast and harbors. Continue on to Biševo, home to the spectacular Blue Grotto, Modra Špilja. On the way, you will have the option to disembark and continue by rowboat into the cave with your expert guide. Return to your boat and continue your exploration of the Dalmatian Islands, stopping in hidden coves and idyllic beaches around Vis Island as well as the stunning Pakleni Island Archipelago, until finally arriving in Hvar where you will spend the evening at Hotel Palace Elisabeth.

Dubrovnik (2 nights)

Head out into the Adriatic once again for a morning of island discovery on your private motorboat. Stop at the island of Korčula and enjoy a sightseeing tour through this typical medieval walled Dalmatian city. Following lunch by the sea, return to your private boat and depart south to the Pelješac Peninsula. Here you will get a unique opportunity to try oysters al fresco during a private tasting accompanied with fine local white wine and fresh mussels cooked at a private estate.

The next morning, embark on a private sea kayaking excursion to explore the caves of Lokrum Island and acquaint yourself with Dubrovnik from the seaside as you paddle beneath the old city walls. Montenegro (2 nights)

Look forward to an exciting cultural tour through Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina. In addition to breathtaking coastlines along the Adriatic Sea, countless cultural highlights await you, including 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Split or Dubrovnik.

Day 1: Travel to Dubrovnik

Flight to Dubrovnik in Croatia. Our friendly, English-speaking tour guide will greet us at the airport and take us to our modern touring coach. We will then travel directly to our 4-star hotel in the Dubrovnik region.

Day 2: Dubrovnik (UNESCO World Heritage), Adriatic & Ston

Today we explore the harbour city of Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic. We browse through the narrow streets and marvel at palaces, churches and sumptuous houses surrounded by a mighty fortified wall. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We drive north along the Adriatic, one of the most beautiful coasts in the world. In the town of Ston, a very special construction awaits us: the 5.5-kilometre-long fortified wall. Ultimately we travel across the magnificent Peljesac Bridge towards the Neretva Valley. We spend the next two nights in utmost comfort in our modern 4-star hotel situated on the Adriatic coastline of Dalmatia.

Day 3: Split, Trogir (2x UNESCO World Heritage) & Omis

Today, we will marvel at 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After a wonderful panoramic drive, we will arrive in Split. A tour round the historic old town is like taking a trip back to ancient times. Diocletian‘s Palace (admission included), one of the best-preserved works of Roman architecture in the world, is simply outstanding. Just a few kilometres away, we visit the old town of Trogir, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way back there is also the little Dalmatian town of Omis, a former pirate settlement.

Day 4: Počitelj & Medjugorje

The next morning, we press on to Počitelj, one of the most interesting villages in the Balkans. Due to its significance in terms of history, and its historical buildings, Počitelj has already been proposed for a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our route takes us to Medjugorje, one of the world‘s most famous sites of Christian pilgrimage with some 2.5 million visitors a year. We will visit the famous holy shrine where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to 6 young people. The afternoon is free for you. We recommend a visit to the famous “Old Bridge” in Mostar (UNESCO World Heritage Site). We will stay overnight in the 4-star hotel in the Medjugorje region.

Day 5: Trebinje & Herceg Novi

After breakfast, we drive to the town of Trebinje. Particular sites to catch include the historic city centre ”Kastel”and the Osman Pasha Mosque, the city’s symbolic landmark. We will also visit a traditional carpet-knotting factory and admire this centuries-old craft. In the afternoon we will reach one of Montenegro‘s most popular holiday destinations: Herceg Novi. We have an overnight stay here, too.

Day 6: Kotor (UNESCO World Heritage) & Porto Montenegro

To begin with we will travel along the famous Gulf of Kotor before arriving at one of the most famous bays in the world, the Bay of Kotor. The view here is simply breathtaking. In the shadow of the mighty St. John mountain we go walking through the historic old town of Kotor and draw inspiration from this picturesque UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fashionable marina of Porto Montenegro in Tivat now awaits us. We can marvel at the super-yachts of the rich and famous. We will spend the night in the Budva area.

Day 7: Budva & Sveti Stefan

Our day begins in Budva, the next highlight. The old town, at over 2,500 years old, is one of the oldest on the Adriatic coast. We wend our way through its narrow alleyways and enjoy its Mediterranean flair. And of course we visit the famous ballerina statue – a truly magical spot. The afternoon sees us take in Montenegro’s iconic symbol, Sveti Stefan. From a splendid viewing point, we will enjoy a fantastic glimpse of this spellbinding island. The region’s great tradition of craftsmanship leads us to jewellery-making and leather work studios. While there, we will learn some interesting things about these crafts and will have the chance to select a personal holiday souvenir. We will again stay the night in the Budva area.

Days 8 – 15: Relaxation in a wonderful 4-star hotel on the Adriatic

Relax over the next few days in your 4-star hotel on the wonderful Adriatic coast of Montenegro! We enjoy the amenities of our hotel, take a break by the pool or a leisurely stroll. Croatia: British citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport must be less than 10 years old on the day you enter Croatia and valid for at least 3 months after the day you leave. If you renewed your passport early, extra months may have been added to its expiry date. Croatia: Croatia belongs to the European Monetary Union, so their currency is the euro (EUR). Exchange rate (as at February 2024): 1 GBP = 1.16 EUR; 1 EUR = 0.86 GBP. Montenegro: Montenegro belongs to the European Monetary Union, so their currency is the euro (EUR). Exchange rate (as at February 2024): 1 GBP = 1.16 EUR; 1 EUR = 0.86 GBP. Bosnia-Herzegovina: The currency unit is the convertible mark (BAM). 1 mark = 100 fening. Exchange rate (as at February 2024): 1 GBP = 2,27 BAM; 1 BAM = 0.44 GBP.

A bed tax of up to 3€ (approx. £2,65) per person/night (last revised: August 2023) in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro is payable on site.

Banks/Credit cards:

Croatia: Credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, petrol stations and shops. Cash withdrawals are possible at most ATMs with the EC-Maestro card or a credit card. Montenegro: Common credit cards are accepted nationwide. ATMs are widely available. Acceptance of V-Pay and Maestro bank cards is limited. These can only be used to withdraw cash at a few ATMs, but not for general payment transactions. Bosnia-Herzegovina: Cash can be withdrawn at ATMs using credit cards and a PIN. Credit cards are increasingly accepted at hotels, restaurants and shops, but it is recommended to pay in cash. To ensure smooth payments, it is recommended to carry bank notes of a smaller denomination. Public institutions (e.g. the post office) only accept payments in BAM.

Customs regulations:

Croatia: Goods imported in personal luggage with a total value of more than €300 for land entry and more than €430 for air or sea entry are subject to VAT. If the value of the goods exceeds € 1,200, both VAT and customs duty are charged. Restrictions on the movement of goods in personal luggage must also be observed, including conditions for the duty-free admission of excisable goods (tobacco products, alcohol and fuel). Cash and checks must be registered in writing from an amount of 10.000 EUR (or equivalent value). Additional information can be found from the Croatian customs administration ( https://carina.gov.hr/ ). Items brought in or carried that are suitable for an attack, such as pepper spray or knives, must be presented when crossing the border. Violations are punishable by heavy fines. Montenegro: Importing and exporting foreign currencies is permitted up to an amount of the equivalent of 10.000 EUR. Personal need goods may be temporarily imported duty-free, but must be exported again. Certain objects (cameras, laptops, similar) have numerical restrictions. There are restrictions for duty-free import for the following goods: Alcohol (2l wine or 1l spirits over 22%), tobacco products (200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 g smoking tobacco), perfume or cologne (50 grams). Bosnia-Herzegovina: Foreign currencies can be declared, but this is not expressly required. People in possession of a weapon will be rejected at the border. The same provisions as in EU countries apply to the import of cigarettes and alcohol. Important: If you are travelling to Great Britain from outside the UK, your personal allowances mean you can bring in a certain amount of goods without paying tax or duty. If you go over your allowances you must declare all your goods and pay tax and duty on all the goods in that category. Safety instructions:

Petty crimes tend to be lower in the cities than in some other major European cities. Nevertheless, tourists should take the usual level of care here. European driving licenses and travel documents as well as travel documents with European residence permits are coveted items to steal.

Special criminal provisions:

Croatia: There are no special instructions. Montenegro: Sexual acts on minors has been punishable since January 01, 2006. The purchase, sale or possession of drugs is severely punishable. This also applies to smaller quantities exclusively for your own use. Bosnia-Herzegovina: Certain buildings and institutions have a no photography policy, which is indicated by the appropriate signage (including US embassy in Sarajevo). Fines must be paid if ignored.

Medical information:

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on the TravelHealthPro website ( https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries ). Each country-specific page has information on vaccine recommendations, any current health risks or outbreaks, and factsheets with information on staying healthy abroad. Eating hygienic food and drink and using mosquito repellent can be used to avoid diarrhoea and other infection diseases. There is no guarantee for the correctness and completeness of the medical information and no liability for any damages that occur. You alone are responsible for your health.

Medical care:

Croatia: Acute medical treatment is possible upon presentation of the UK European Health Insurance Card (new UK EHIC) or the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). Additional payments must be made in some cases. A prompt payment of the treatment costs is demand in some cases. In such cases, it is recommended to have a detailed invoice issued. Costs for repatriation are not covered by the statutory health insurance, which is why it is recommended you get private travel health insurance. In addition to physicians in private practices, there are health centres in many places (“Dom Zdravlja”). Most polyclinics are private practices. Montenegro: Medical care according to British standards is not always guaranteed. Hospitals also do not always have adequate equipment and are sometimes unable to provide patients with certain medical conditions appropriate medical care. Hygienic levels are generally not sufficient. Bosnia-Herzegovina: Medical care in the country is often problematic in many respects. There are few English-speaking physicians, especially outside the major cities. It is recommended to take out foreign health insurance with the option of return medical transport to the UK. Customers should ensure that they are physically and psychologically fit for undertaking the selected trip and make the necessary queries concerning the level of physical and psychological fitness required. Please observe that the excursions are accessible by foot only and that the buses used for the roundtrip are not customised to transport wheelchairs or similar devices.
