Star Tours

  • Star Tours was a joint production between Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas' special effects operation Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) . After agreeing to the project, Walt Disney Imagineering purchased military flight simulators to help create the effects and movement. The final StarSpeeders are therefore very similar in design and power to these immense industrial machines.
  • The Astroport workers seen during the flight and in the pre-show video are all ILM modelshop workers . However, contrary to popular belief, the worker seen ducking in shock as your StarSpeeder returns to the Astroport is infact not George Lucas but Ira Keeler, an ILM modelmaker who just happened to be in the right place at the right time!
  • Look closely at REX's bodywork and you'll see a red tag featuring the words "Remove Before Flight" - could this explain his poor flight skills?
  • One of the Ewoks featured in the pre-flight video is holding a Mickey Mouse plush . The guests surrounding them are all Imagineers and their families.

The original Star Tours in California, opened 1987, cost almost twice as much as the whole park did upon opening in 1955!

  • Make your plans for a Star Tours departure later in the day for a shorter wait at the terminal. Even though the ride is indoors, it is given an extra buzz of realism at nighttime thanks to the spacey atmosphere of Discoveryland outside.
  • Not suitable for sufferers of motion sickness.
  • For safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness or other conditions which could be aggravated by this adventure.
  • Expectant mothers and those wearing an orthopaedic device or surgical collar should not ride.
  • Transfer required.

Disney's Star Tours - The Adventures Continue

was ist star tours disneyland paris

Disney's Star Tours - The Adventures Continue improves on the original attraction in every way—and sets a new standard for motion simulator rides. What had become a slightly tired trip to a Star Wars galaxy far, far away is now a giddy jaunt to... well, half the fun is you never know where in hyperspace the ride will whisk you.

  • Thrill Scale (0=Wimpy, 10=Yikes): 4.5. Relatively mild motion simulator thrills. Those prone to motion sickness may experience discomfort (although closing your eyes should quell any queasiness). The ride also offers Star Wars -style action. It makes our list of Disneyland's most thrilling rides .
  • Location: Disneyland , Disney's Hollywood Studios at Disney World , Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland.
  • Height requirement: 40 inches

Disney Raises Its Own Bar

When it debuted at Disneyland in 1987, the original Star Tours was the first major motion simulator attraction at a theme park, and the newfangled virtual reality concept ushered in a new era for park attractions. If theme parks are about escaping from the everyday world, motion simulators offer an ideal means of escape. Using seats that move in sync with filmed action projected onto a screen, the destinations are only limited by the imagination of the attraction's designers. Star Tours was also a bold departure for Disney which, up until that point, had used its own content as the basis for its attractions.

Since the ride film made its debut, developers have added Omnimax screens (such as The Simpsons Ride ), roving motion base vehicles (such as Transformers: The Ride 3D ), and other features to enhance the you-are-there experience. The movie ride space cowboys at Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm, and Industrial Light & Magic (Lucasfilm's visual effects mavens), have upped their own ante with a retooled version of the attraction that launched in 2011.

The impetus for the re-imagined ride dates back to the late 1990s when Episode 1 of the Star Wars prequel trilogy was being filmed. According to Tom Fitzgerald, executive vice president and senior creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering , "George Lucas contacted us and said the pod racing scene in the movie would be perfect for Star Tours." Anyone who has seen the movie would agree; the largely point-of-view sequence, with the hover vehicles tearing through a desert course, seems tailor-made for a park ride. So what took so long? "We needed to raise the bar," says Fitzgerald. Thankfully, the bar has indeed been raised.

3-D Without the Gimmicks

The infrastructure of the attraction remains essentially unchanged. Guests still make their way through a mythology-packed "spaceport" en route to their Starspeeder 1000 boarding gate and an allegedly uneventful journey to some friendly planet. Star Wars stalwarts R2-D2 and C-3PO are on hand to help ready the vehicles (and entertain riders stuck in line). After some pre-flight safety instructions, guests enter the familiar Starspeeder cabins and buckle up for a bumpy ride.

Once the ride begins, however, it's clear that this is not the same Endor-bound Star Tours that lurched ad nauseam through the cosmos for 24 years. Speaking of clear, the super high-def clarity of the digitally projected film is remarkably crisper than the original ride. And by adding 3-D to the mix, the attraction offers a vivid sense of depth, while the dorky 3-D goggles don't noticeably dim the alluring brightness of the images.

Unlike the gotcha gimmickry of most 3-D park rides, the extra dimension of the spiffed-up Star Tours is more understated. With its easy availability at the local cineplex, the novelty of 3-D has long since worn off. Wisely, the Imagineers have seamlessly incorporated the effect in a largely unself-conscious and elegant way that helps bring Lucas' alternate-universe to life.

You Are There. But You Never Know Where.

The most compelling improvement over Star Tours 1.0 is the ride's random sequence generator. By slicing together many different destinations and transition scenes, Disney says that there are over 50 possible story combinations. No two rides, therefore, would likely be the same (unless uber-fans boarded Star Tours a lot ). That keeps the attraction fresh and makes it eminently re-rideable. It also makes other motion simulator attractions, with their fixed been-there, done-that plots, seem so 20th century.

Like the original Star Tours (and nearly every other motion simulator ride), what all versions of the attraction have in common is that things very quickly go horribly wrong. Rookie pilots R2-D2 and C-3PO are unexpectedly drafted into action, rebel spies are discovered lurking among the passengers, and the Starspeeders must periodically engage in evasive maneuvers and travel to distant planets to avoid certain calamity. Other destinations include the ice planet of Hoth, Naboo, and the ominous Death Star.

It's quite impressive to experience the attraction more than once and be treated to an entirely unique story arc each time. Different characters (which might include, among others, Boba Fett, Yoda, Princess Leia, and supreme baddie Darth Vader), different missions, different locations, and even different gags will have you marveling at the audacity of the ride. "It was a challenge to sync everything," says Spiegel, referring to the on-the-fly nature of the stitched-together film, the corresponding motion sequences, and the in-cabin effects. “We wanted to be able to take guests to many places in the Star Wars universe. And now we can."

Even More Places to Visit

Because it is screen-based, Disney has the ability to add sequences and make updates to the attraction, which it periodically does. For example, in late 2019, the parks introduced new scenes inspired by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker , the latest installment in the movie franchise. Among the places added to the Starspeeders' itineraries was the ocean moon Kef Bir.

Since the introduction of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge , the groundbreaking lands at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it has been a bit disconcerting to have Star Tours exist outside of the contained Black Spire Outpost, the trading port on the planet Batuu. It is especially strange at the Disney World park, where Star Tours is just a couple of blocks away from Galaxy’s Edge. Disney has explained the disconnect by saying that the Star Tours attractions pay homage to the movies and mythology while Galaxy’s Edge represents the “real” Star Wars lands.

It may be some time before we actually have the technology to fly off to faraway stars. Until then, the mighty impressive technology that fuels Star Tours - The Adventures Continue can virtually transport us, if only for a few minutes at a time, to places that were previously unthinkable.

Few attractions offer the kind of unique ride experience that Disneyland’s Star Tours — The Adventures Continue offers. First majorly updated in 2010, the ride was once again updated in 2015, 2017, and 2019 to include 700 different ride experiences.  Now in 2024, the ride is once again getting another update!

Star Tours — The Adventures continue at Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Studios , and Disneyland Paris all received an update on April 5th, 2024 to reflect new  Star Wars  Disney+ media and we were invited to get a FIRSTHAND LOOK! Check it out!

The new adventures include characters and locations from  Ahsoka, Andor,  and  The Mandalorian.  We got to experience these new adventures and we were absolutely blown away!

was ist star tours disneyland paris

The pre-show was the same as usual. Also, our first scene was pod-racing on Tatooine — a scene we have experienced before.

was ist star tours disneyland paris

Then came the exciting part — new characters! Din Djarin and Grogu sent a transmission with  The Mandalorian  theme song playing. Grogu snatched a flying frog while Djarin was giving us important intel which made for a fun 3D moment.

Then we made it to a planet featured in Ahsoka.  There, Ahsoka showed up to help us in battle with Purrgil (space whales). Beware — you may almost get eaten by one! We weren’t allowed to grab footage, but we love these new additions to the ride. We only saw the scenes from  Ahsoka  and  The Mandalorian —  we did not get  Andor  on our ride.

Star Tours - The Adventures Continue (Disneyland Paris)

was ist star tours disneyland paris

In 1987, the original version of Star Tours opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. The motion simulator ride based on the Star Wars franchise featured Captain Rex, a droid that attempted to fly guests to the planet Endor.

In 2011, Disney debuted an updated version of this ride: Star Tours – The Adventures Continue . The new ride uses advanced 3D technology, randomly chosen alternate scenes, and frequent updates with new characters and locations as new Star Wars films come out.

The new version also exists at other Disney Parks around the world: Disney’s Hollywood Studios , Disneyland Park  and Tokyo Disneyland .

Queue Details

  • Captain Rex can still be found in the new version – the droid is near the entrance to the queue’s cargo bay, ready to be shipped far, far away as DEFECTIVE stickers are now stuck to him.

was ist star tours disneyland paris

  • The droid found during the boarding pre-show is Aly San San . She is inspired by  Attack of the Clones ‘ waitress droid, WA-7 . In the US versions of the ride, this character is voiced by actress Allison Janney which has a “glitch” to provide safety information in Spanish. In this version of the ride, the droid is voiced by a French actress with her “glitch” being part of Janney’s English spiel. You may recognize Janney as the voice of Peach in Pixar’s Finding Nemo (2003) as well as Doofenshmirtz’s ex-wife Charlene in Disney’s Phineas and Ferb .

Ride Details

  • The original French version of the ride featured Luq Hamet as the voice of Captain Rex. Hamet has a few Disney roles under his belt as the French voice-over actor for Milo in Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) as well as the titular character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) . In the new version, our pilot is C-3PO, voiced by the film’s original English voice actor/performer Anthony Daniels , who although doesn’t provide the voice-overs for the French dubs of the  Star Wars films , does speak fluent French.
  • The ride doesn’t have an original score, but rather a compilation of music from the Star Wars films by John Williams . Composer  Richard Bellis  was in charge of arranging and orchestrating the melody including some original elements such as the infamous chime . Bellis played a similar role in Disneyland’s Indiana Jones And The Temple Of The Forbidden Eye as well as a number of original projects for Disney including The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter and Dinosaur .
  • One of the sequences takes riders to Crait , the mineral planet seen during  Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017) . Crait was inspired by and filmed on Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flat . The portions used during the ride are likely to be completely CGI.
  • Another sequence takes riders to Hoth , the ice planet seen during  Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) . Hoth’s battle scenes were filmed on and near Norway’s Hardangerjøkulen (Hardanger Glacier) , although the ride footage appears to all be CGI.

Star Tours was a simulator attraction, based on the Star Wars media franchise. This version of the attraction has since closed at its original home of Disneyland , Disney's Hollywood Studios , Tokyo Disneyland , and Disneyland Paris , but was replaced by Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at all three parks between 2011 and 2013 , whilst it re-opened as the Adventures Continue at Disneyland Paris in 2017 .

Advertised as "The Ultimate Star Wars Adventure", the attraction was themed as a galactic travel agency and spaceport set within the Star Wars universe that is employed with droids such as R2-D2 and C-3PO and that you are traveling to the Forest Moon of Endor. However, your inexperienced pilot, RX-24 , ends up taking a journey through an asteroid field and a battle with the second Death Star .

Although Star Tours may or may not be considered canon , its StarSpeeder 3000 is referenced in canon Star Wars works. In the PC game TIE Fighter , one ship appears on a certain level, and when the player identifies it, the ship is identified as "StarSpeeder 3000," LucasArts' tribute to the attraction. The StarSpeeder 3000 is also mentioned in the Star Wars Expanded Universe novel Specter of the Past and PC game Star Wars Galaxies .

Anthony Daniels reprised his role as C-3PO for this project. RX-24 was voiced by Paul Reubens , a.k.a. Pee-Wee Herman. (Reubens also voiced a similar role—that is, a wacky alien pilot—in the Disney movie Flight of the Navigator in 1986 .)

The ride premiered in Disneyland in 1987 , in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise. The ride was placed in Tomorrowland replacing Adventure Thru Inner Space and had to be fit in between other attractions. It debuted at the Disney-MGM Studios in 1989 and was given a much more spacious venue, complete with a large AT-AT walker outside the ride entrance. The attraction also premiered overseas at Tokyo Disneyland that same year and at Disneyland Paris in 1992.

The soundtrack was remastered and remixed in 2004 and can be found on the CD A Musical History of Disneyland .

There is a similar attraction called Nemo & Friends SeaRider in Tokyo Disneyland 's sister park, Tokyo DisneySea .

History [ ]

The ride that became Star Tours first saw light as a proposal for an attraction based on the 1979 Disney film The Black Hole . It would have been an interactive ride simulator attraction, where guests would have the ability to choose the ride car's route, but after preliminary planning, the Black Hole attraction was shelved due to its enormous cost - approximately US$50 million - as well as the unpopularity of the film itself.

But instead of completely dismissing the idea of a simulator attraction, the company decided to make use of a partnership between Disney and George Lucas , the creator of the Star Wars franchise, that began in 1986 with the opening of a neighboring attraction, Captain EO in Disneyland . Disneyland then approached Lucas with the idea of Star Tours. With Lucas' approval, Imagineers purchased four military-grade flight simulators for $500,000 each and designed the ride structure.

Meanwhile, Lucas and his team of special effects technicians at Industrial Light & Magic produced the first-person perspective film that would be projected inside the simulators. When both the simulator and film were completed, a programmer then sat inside and manually synchronized the movement of the simulator with the apparent movement on the screen with the aid of a joystick.

On January 9, 1987 , at a final cost of $32 million, almost twice the cost of the building and the entire Disneyland park in 1955 , the ride opened to throngs of patrons, many of whom dressed up as Star Wars characters for the occasion. In celebration, Disneyland remained opened for a special 60-hour marathon from January 9, 1987, from 10 am to January 11, 1987, at 10 pm.

Attraction [ ]

Taking place sometime shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi , Star Tours put guests in the role of space tourists en route to the forest moon of Endor , the site of an infamous battle where Rebels fought against the Empire via the Star Tours travel agency.

Much was made of this throughout the queue looking like a spaceship boarding terminal with posters advertising voyages to different planets, and a giant screen informed riders of various travel packages. This area was stocked with Audio-Animatronic characters that seemed to speak to the ride patrons (including C-3PO and R2-D2 ), as well as a life-size mock-up of a StarSpeeder 3000 , the spacecraft which riders were about to board.

Guests then entered a maintenance area where an underproductive G2 droid performed repairs on another droid while being distracted by the observing guests, and another droid inadvertently pointed out all the supposed flaws of the StarSpeeder 3000 and its RX pilots. A ride attendant escorted guests to one of several loading stations where they waited for their turn to ride.

Captain Rex (RX-24).

A television screen posted a countdown to take-off time and showed images of the Starspeeder 3000 spacecraft being serviced. As launch time approached, a safety video was shown featuring Star Wars aliens, Disney Imagineers, and their families. It instructed guests on how to fasten their seat belts and where to place belongings.

Once the doors to the Starspeeder opened, guests walked across bridges into one of several StarSpeeders, while C-3PO welcomed the riders and repeated the safety spiel. As the doors closed, the bumbling pilot droid of the ship, RX-24 or Rex (voiced by Paul Reubens ), chatted up the guests about the trip as R2-D2 was loaded onto the spacecraft.

Rex lowered the cockpit shield, and the hangar crew activated the flight platform. All went well until a slight mistake on Captain Rex's part sent the Starspeeder crashing into the maintenance bay doors, and plummeting into the maintenance yard just barely crashing the control room and colliding with a giant mechanical arm.

Once in space, Rex asked R2-D2 to make the jump to lightspeed as well, but accidentally overshot the ship's hyperdrive, and passed the Endor moon, and instead got caught inside a comet cluster. The ship got hit by several comets before getting trapped in one of the larger comets. The Starspeeder weaved its way through the comet and escaped by crashing through one of the thinner walls. Upon escaping the comet, however, the ship encountered a Star Destroyer .

Star Tours promo shot

Battle of Death Star III.

The ship got caught in its tractor beam but managed to get loose when an X-Wing fighter of the Alliance to Restore the Republic assisted by destroying the tractor beam's generator. With the tractor beam deactivated, the Starspeeder escaped the Star Destroyer. Soon the ship accompanied the Alliance on a massive assault on the third Death Star .

Rex used the StarSpeeder's lasers to eliminate several TIE fighters while a rebel pilot destroyed the Death Star in the same manner Luke Skywalker did, by firing two proton torpedoes into the exhaust port. The X-Wings jumped to lightspeed to avoid the Death Star's explosion, and a final lightspeed jump sent the StarSpeeder back to the spaceport, but not before a near collision with a fuel truck in the hangar. C-3PO then instructed the passengers on the existing procedure before thanking and bidding them farewell.

The StarSpeeder 1000 , as seen flying alongside podracers in the Boonta Eve Classic on Tatooine .

At the inaugural D23 Expo in Anaheim , California , on September 12 , 2009 , Jay Rasulo and Darth Vader (voiced by Fred Tatasciore ) [1] [2] announced that Disneyland's Star Tours attraction would be closing in October 2010 to make way for an updated version, which will open in 2011 . Tatooine was announced as one of the new destinations in Star Tours II , with footage released of the StarSpeeder 1000 speeding through a podrace.

The original Star Tours attraction at Disneyland saw its final day of operation on July 26 , 2010, and Star Tours: The Adventure Continues is now open in its place. The Disney's Hollywood Studios version of the attraction closed on September 8 , 2010, now updated to Star Tours II.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue officially opened at Disney's Hollywood Studios on May 20, 2011 , and at Disneyland two weeks later, on June 3 .

Tokyo Disneyland closed its Star Tours on April 2 , 2012, and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue for Tokyo Disneyland opened in Spring 2013.

Disneyland Paris ' closed on March 16 , 2016 , so the original ride can be updated, opening in 2017.

  • Shortly before the ride was declared non-canon , Leland Chee, Keeper of the Holocron for the official Star Wars website, stated that the Death Star depicted in the ride was indeed the third Death Star, but was not an actual Death Star. The ride features high-definition video, a Dolby 3D high-definition screen, an improved motion simulator, and various special effects for an immersive experience.

A Deep Dive into the Star Wars Universe

The ride, officially titled “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue”, takes guests on an exciting journey aboard a Starspeeder 1000 spacecraft. The attraction features high-definition video, a Dolby 3D high-definition screen, an improved motion simulator, and various special effects.

Throughout the ride, guests come face-to-face with iconic characters like Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, and BB-8. They also explore alien worlds such as Jakku and Crait. With more than 100 different storytelling combinations, each ride on Star Tours is a unique and immersive adventure.

The Journey of Star Tours

Star Tours first opened its doors at Disneyland in 1987 and has since been updated and expanded to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. The original Star Tours was replaced by Star Tours: The Adventures Continue in 2011, introducing digital 3D technology, additional in-theater effects, and C-3PO as the new in-cabin pilot. The ride sequence was also randomized, allowing guests to experience four out of 21 different segments during each journey, making the ride highly repeatable and constantly surprising.

Unique Features of Star Tours

Star Tours stands out for its state-of-the-art technology and immersive storytelling. Key features include a hydraulic motion base cabin known as the Advanced Technology Leisure Application Simulator (ATLAS) that provides a realistic and immersive experience, digital 3D video, Audio-Animatronics characters, and “in-cockpit” special effects and music. The simulator randomly combines different scenes from various Star Wars locations, creating a wide variety of experiences for riders.

The Star Tours Experience

Guests board the Starspeeder 1000 and are introduced to C-3PO and R2-D2, who serve as the pilots for the journey. The ride sequence is randomized, with guests experiencing four out of 21 different segments during each journey. Some of the possible destinations include a pod race on Tatooine, a speeder chase on Hoth, or a visit to Coruscant. The ride lasts approximately 7 minutes, including boarding at the Starspeeder gate, with the actual show lasting around 5 minutes.

Tips for First-Time Riders

For first-time riders, note that Star Tours has a height requirement of 40 inches (102 cm) and may cause motion sickness for some due to its simulator nature. Consider using FastPass and Genie+ to avoid long wait times, and try to ride early in the morning or late in the day to avoid peak crowds.

A Must-Visit for Star Wars Fans

Star Tours caters to Star Wars fans by offering an immersive experience that takes guests on a journey through the Star Wars universe. The ride features a motion-simulated space flight with more than 60 different combinations, allowing guests to have a new experience with every flight. The attraction includes appearances from various Star Wars characters, such as C-3PO, R2-D2, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader. The ride also incorporates scenes from different planets in the Star Wars universe, including Crait and Batuu from Episode VIII and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

This Disney Park Is One of the Most Beautiful in the World — How to Visit

Here’s our magical guide to visiting Disneyland Paris.

Elizabeth Rhodes is a special projects editor at Travel + Leisure , covering everything from luxury hotels to theme parks to must-pack travel products. Originally from South Carolina, Elizabeth moved to New York City from London, where she started her career as a travel blogger and writer.

Disney Village

Getting there, disneyland paris day trip itinerary.

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

Since 1992, Disneyland Paris (then called Euro Disney) has welcomed more than 250 million guests to its magical theme parks and hotels. Made up of two parks (Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park), seven hotels, and a dining and shopping district called Disney Village, the theme park resort has grown into a full-blown vacation destination, and it’s only getting better. Fresh off its 30th-anniversary celebration, the opening of Avengers Campus, and the reimagining of Disneyland Hotel, Disneyland Paris recently announced big plans to completely transform Walt Disney Studios Park into Disney Adventure World.

I’ve visited 10 of the 12 Disney theme parks around the world, and Disneyland Park in Paris is the most beautiful iteration of the classic castle park I’ve visited, with gorgeously crafted immersive worlds surrounding a stunning pink castle inspired by French chateaux. I went back to Disneyland Paris last month to see everything new and exciting (and re-ride everything I loved the first time) to curate a new guide featuring the best of the resort. With unique interpretations of classic Disney attractions and a few memorable rides you can’t find anywhere else, the resort is a worthwhile day trip from Paris or a multi-day getaway. From can’t-miss rides to the best restaurants and places to stay, here’s everything you need to know about visiting Disneyland Paris.

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

When it comes to high and low seasons, Disneyland Paris is similar to its U.S. counterparts: Crowds are largest during school breaks and public holidays. The summer months, long weekends, and the winter holiday season are all among the busiest times to visit Disneyland Paris, and mid-January through mid-March and mid-April through mid-May are typically less busy times to visit. This summer will undoubtedly be extra busy for Disneyland Paris as tourists worldwide flock to the French capital for the Olympics. To avoid the heaviest crowds throughout the year, plan to visit Tuesday through Thursday (and avoid weekends).

Thanks to the lineup of festive annual events, a fall trip to Disneyland Paris is always a good idea. Each year, Disneyland Paris hosts Halloween and Christmas events with seasonal decorations and eats; this year, Disney Halloween Festival will take place from Oct. 1 to Nov. 3, and Disney Enchanted Christmas will last from Nov. 9 to Jan. 6.

It’s worth noting that American tourists are likely used to the warm weather found year-round at the domestic parks in California and Florida, but Paris experiences all four seasons. Be sure to check the forecast and pack appropriately — it was very chilly when I visited in February one year, and we had to buy Mickey beanies to stay warm.

Disneyland Paris sells dated and undated tickets, with several variations depending on how many days you visit and which parks you want to visit. You can buy dated tickets for one to four days for both parks (or a single-day, single-park dated ticket). You can also purchase a single-day undated ticket to one or both parks, but these are typically more expensive. Disney uses dynamic ticket pricing, so you can check out the ticket calendar to see when you could visit to save a few bucks on admission. (Hint: cheaper days mean lower crowd levels.) For 2024, the cheapest one-park, one-day ticket currently ranges from $73 to $148.

Annual Passes

Disneyland Paris also offers three tiers of annual passes: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Bronze is 289 euros and allows holders to visit 170 days a year. The Silver Pass is 499 euros and allows guests to access the parks 300 out of 365 days each year. Silver pass holders can also enjoy 10 percent discounts at shops and restaurants. The Gold Pass is 699 euros, allows entry every day of the year, offers a 15 percent discount at shops and restaurants, and includes Extra Magic Time and an annual PhotoPass.

Disney Premier Access

Want to skip the line for the most popular attractions? Disney Premier Access works similarly to the old FastPass or newer Genie+ at the U.S. parks in that it allows you to skip the main standby line, but there are some nuances you’ll want to know before you purchase. Yes, purchase — this is an additional cost, just like Genie+ Lightning Lanes in the U.S. You can buy Disney Premier Access One for individual attractions to gain a time slot for the Premier Access queue on the day you visit via the Disneyland Paris app. Or you can splurge on the Disney Premier Access Ultimate, an all-day pass that allows you to skip the line once for every participating attraction. You can buy the Ultimate pass the day of or in advance.

I tested Disney Premier Access Ultimate during my recent trip, and I could ride everything I wanted during my two-day trip, even while fighting jet lag. Of course, if you’re a single rider, you can also take advantage of the dedicated single-rider queues, but even those had long waits for some of the top rides, like Crush’s Coaster.

Disneyland Park

Is this the most beautiful Disney theme park in the world? It just might be, with its dazzling pink castle inspired by Mont St. Michel and intricately themed lands that feature fantastic versions of classic Disney rides . Disneyland Park is France’s “castle park,” a term used in the theme park community to describe the Disney parks centered around the main princess castle with a hub-and-spoke layout featuring lands like Adventureland and Fantasyland (think Disneyland Park in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida ). Disneyland Paris has five main lands — Discoveryland (similar to Tomorrowland), Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Main Street, U.S.A. Don’t miss the nightly Disney Electrical Sky Parade featuring drones, projections, and fountains for a fun new take on the beloved parade.

You can find classic attractions like It’s a Small World, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Autopia at Disneyland Park. Still, I recommend prioritizing the one-of-a-kind rides you can’t find in the U.S. parks and the unique versions of attractions you’re already familiar with if you’re short on time. I loved Phantom Manor, a spookier version of the Haunted Mansions in Florida and California. I also enjoyed the European park’s take on Pirates of the Caribbean and Big Thunder Mountain. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain is a thrilling, Star Wars -themed take on the classic indoor coaster. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril is an intense outdoor roller coaster unique to this park (though Tokyo DisneySea has a similar ride).

Take the time to tour Sleeping Beauty Castle (the views from the terrace are beautiful, as is the stained-glass depiction of the fairy tale) and the Dragon’s Lair (home to an impressive audio-animatronic dragon).

Best Restaurants

Many table and quick-service restaurants are located around the park, from French meals with princesses at Auberge de Cendrillon to Tex Mex at Casa de Coco. I enjoyed my meal at Walt’s, an American restaurant themed to Walt Disney’s life, with dishes inspired by his favorite foods, like his famous chili. Get a table by the window to enjoy great people-watching on Main Street, U.S.A. Find Mickey-shaped pizza at Pizzeria Bella Notte, or try the French version of a Dole Whip at Cafe de la Brousse. If you plan to eat at a table-service restaurant that accepts reservations, make reservations as soon as possible to ensure you can dine when you want.

Walt Disney Studios Park

Walt Disney Studios Park will be transformed entirely into Disney Adventure World — construction kicked off in April. This new version of the park will see significant changes, including the addition of World of Frozen, but Walt Disney Studios Park is still open amid the transformation. That said, because so much is changing at this park, we’re just going to hit the highlights for visitors who plan to visit soon before the park is complete.

Walt Disney Studios Park is home to some of Disneyland Paris’s top attractions, including rides you won’t find anywhere else. At Avengers Campus, you can sling webs at Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure (which also exists at Disney California Adventure Park) or go on a high-speed mission on the unique Avengers Assemble: Flight Force featuring Iron Man and Captain Marvel. (Fun fact: this ride used to be Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so expect a thrilling launch start and multiple inversions.) Finding Nemo -themed Crush’s Coaster is a super-popular spinning coaster mostly indoors; it’s worth purchasing Premier Access if you visit during a busy time. The original Ratatouille: The Adventure can be found in this park, along with Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and some smaller attractions perfect for kids in the Pixar area of the park. This park also features several shows, including The Disney Junior Dream Factory, Stitch Live!, Mickey and the Magician, and Frozen: A Musical Invitation.

Bistrot Chez Rémy is hands-down the best restaurant in Walt Disney Studios Park. Shrink down to the size of a rat at this “Ratatouille”-themed restaurant serving up dishes like steak and roast cod with sides of ratatouille, of course. There are also several food trucks throughout the park and some superhero-themed eateries at Avengers Campus.

Disney Village is Disneyland Paris’s version of Downtown Disney with several shopping and dining outlets, including American favorites like Five Guys and Earl of Sandwich and sit-down restaurants. Stop by the Disney Store to grab some souvenirs before heading out.

Disneyland Paris has seven themed hotels (listed here from most luxurious to most affordable): Disneyland Hotel, Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel, Disney Newport Bay Club, Disney Sequoia Lodge, Disney Hotel Cheyenne, Disney Hotel Santa Fe, Disney Davy Crockett Ranch. All except Disney Davy Crockett Ranch offer free shuttles or are within walking distance of the parks. Many hotels have U.S.-inspired themes, like nautical New England at Disney Newport Bay Club and Old West at Disney Hotel Cheyenne. I stayed at the recently reimagined Disneyland Hotel ; it’s one of the best Disney hotels in the world, located right at the entrance of Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Hotel

The pink Disneyland Hotel feels like a castle in its own right, with a lobby that looks like a royal library and a host of amenities that guarantee a magical vacation. Walking through the lobby, I’d spot Disney princesses waving to guests — and little princes and princesses who just had makeovers at the Royal Collection Boutique waving back.

The hotel also has a free Royal Kids Club, a pool, a fitness center, a spa by Clarins, a bar, and two character dining restaurants, Royal Banquet and La Table de Lumière. I had the chance to visit both restaurants during my stay and loved my experience at both; if I had to choose a favorite, I’d pick La Table de Lumiere for the adorable character interactions. I’m always blown away by how the characters can communicate in many languages at the international Disney parks, and these interactions with the princes and princesses were so fun and memorable.

Overall, I had a wonderful stay at Disneyland Hotel. The recently renovated rooms had upscale decor inspired by iconic Disney fairy tales (mine had a Snow White theme) and thoughtful details that provided a five-star experience. Plus, it took me just a few minutes to walk from my room to the park entrance — an incredible perk you won’t find at many Disney hotels.

Getting to Disneyland Paris from the city is surprisingly easy. Take the RER A (an express train line) to the Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy/Parcs Disneyland stop just a few minutes from the park gates. You can also take the Disneyland Paris Express shuttle bus, but I highly recommend taking the RER. You can also take a TGV train to this stop from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport; I did this on my recent trip, and it took about 10 minutes to take the train from the airport stop to Disneyland Paris (though it was very crowded on the weekend).

Although the resort has lovely hotels that are well worth a stay for travelers who want to explore the parks for more than a day, many visitors come to Disneyland Paris for a day trip from the capital. I recommend planning to arrive at the theme parks before opening so you can rope drop any of your top-priority attractions. Get a two-park pass, and consider paying for Premier Access (for one or all attractions) to make the most of one day. I’d recommend starting at Walt Disney Studios Park to ride Crush’s Coaster, Tower of Terror, the Avenger’s Campus attractions, and Ratatouille: The Adventure. Schedule a sit-down meal at Bistrot Chez Remy or Walt’s for lunch, then spend the rest of the day in Disneyland Park and watch the Disney Electrical Sky Parade before you leave.

Country Details

In France the currency that you will need is Euros.

Passengers should exchange any spending money for their holiday before they actually travel. Whilst on tour it is very inconvenient and not all places you will visit will have ATM machines or accept credit/debit cards.

We also advise our passengers to keep some change in coins on them whilst on tour as using toilets in many parts of Europe is not free.

USD, GBP or travellers’ cheques are not widely accepted at locations in this tour.

An important point to note whilst on a touring holiday is that some long journeys are unavoidable especially when travelling from city to city.

It is advisable passengers carry necessities that they may need for the day such as water, dry snacks, cameras etc. with them in their hand luggage.

For this tour, it should be noted that the travel times are extensive on this tour.

Please see a summary of the distances you will be covering below:

Above is for indication purposes only

Breakfast will be provided at the hotels. The breakfast is usually in a separate dining area of the hotel and is usually a continental breakfast, which will consist of tea, coffee, bread, cereals, fruit and yoghurt.

Passengers can choose from different diets, including vegetarian, Jain or non-vegetarian (Halal will not always be available) meals. Passengers should advise the tour representative of their preferred diet on day one. The meals are pre-set buffet, and a choice of menu is not available. Meals will be provided with tap water only.

Lunches are not provided on this tour, where there is a possibility of stopping at a service station the choice for vegetarians may be limited. We highly recommend if you have specific dietary requirements then you should make arrangements to carry your own food for lunch.

Not all hotels in this tour will have air-conditioning so you should carry a small portable fan with you especially during the summer months.

Please also note that not all hotels provide a kettle so if hot water is required for warming milk etc. in the hotel then it is advisable to carry a bottle warmer/kettle as well as a thermos flask. Passengers may also want to carry a small travel iron and hairdryer etc., as many hotel rooms may not have these facilities.

Some hotels in Europe, especially France will provide two single beds put together as a Double occupancy room, as this sort of configuration allows the hotel to use a room for multi-use, we do contract with such hotels, and you should be prepared for such eventualities.

If you use services such as the phone or mini-bar or pay TV whilst in your room, you will have to pay the hotel directly when you check out; these services are not included in your tour cost.

Max occupancy per room is 3 person (excluding infants ).

Other Advisories

Disneyland® paris.

Disneyland Paris can get busy, especially at peak times, so it makes sense to orientate yourself before you arrive by going onto the website and looking at the latest map. There’s a lot to see so you might like to prioritise your must-do attractions to avoid disappointment. But one should try not missing the famous Disney Parades when the much-loved Disney characters take to the streets for a unique and interactive experience. Please note on this tour you will not be staying in Disney until it closes so you will not see the evening firework, Parade or illuminations. Should you wish to do this, then you will need to make your own way back to the Hotel, and you will miss the dinner and transfers for which no compensation will be due.

The resort itself comprises of two parks: The Disneyland Park, packed with rides and attractions, and the Walt Disney Studios Park. Your tickets will allow you access into any one of these parks.

When you arrive at the park, you might like to consider using the Fastpass service, a free service which helps you to cut down on waiting times for some of the attractions (subject to availability and operation).

Pick up and Drop off points & Times

Passengers should arrive at their pick-up point no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Your pick-up point, address and time will be stated on your invoice. If you have selected a pick-up time outside of Wembley, Southall or East Ham then you will be confirmed your pick-up time.

Return journeys from the continent are scheduled to arrive at Dover or Folkestone between 19.00hrs and 20.00hrs approximately. We will then proceed to the original pick-up points in London (arrival time between 22.30hrs and 00.30hrs+1)

Outside London pick up points: Transportation may be arranged by a private car, minibus or an alternative coach for your journey to and from London. On rare occasions, there may be up to an hour wait for a connecting transfer on the return. Passengers can expect to receive a call from Star to confirm details a day prior to their departure. Star Tours reserves the right to amend any pick-up time 12 hours prior to departure.

The below pick-up points may not be available for this tour:

Dover (subject to availability)

Calais (subject to availability)

Schengen Visa Details

Visas & passports.

A passport valid for three months beyond the length of stay and issued within the past 10 years is required by all nationals. Except EU nationals holding a passport or national ID card which is valid for the duration of stay.

If you hold an Indian, Pakistani, or Bangladesh Passport, you will need to obtain Schengen Visa prior to travelling. Many nationalities do not require Schengen visas, such as British, EU and American nationals. Should you need further clarification, please contact us.

Weather in much of Paris tends to be the same as England and is very unpredictable. Regardless of the time of the year, it is advisable to carry an umbrella. Temperatures vary from place to place, and it is a good idea to check online for average temperatures for the destination(s) being visited depending on the time of the year.

Passengers can be well prepared by ensuring they are carrying appropriate clothing, footwear and accessories. Passengers should also be aware that during the winter months most of the sightseeing will be in the dark as, in Europe, the day becomes dark very early during winter. Passengers should consult with Star Tours at the time of booking if they are unsure.

Wheelchairs & Child Seats

We will accept lightweight manual wheelchairs for travel, subject to them being capable of being stowed in the luggage hold of the coach.  It is also essential that a family member is also on tour to push their wheelchair. Star Tour’s will also request hotels for suitably equipped rooms; however, this is only on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed.  It should be noted Eiffel Tower and some rides at Disney are not fully accessible for a wheelchair users.

In most of Europe, the use of child seats in coaches is mandatory for children under the age of 12 or who are shorter than 150 cm. Children under 7 years old or less than 125 cm tall must use a child seat with a harness or a restraint system. Children between 7 and 12 years old or between 125 and 150 cm tall must use a booster seat or a seat cushion. It is the responsibility of the child's parent or guardian to provide the appropriate child seat for their child.
