I booked a 4D/3N Yangtze cruise - 10-13Mar 2024 on Victoria Katrina from Chongqing to Yichang through Kyle Li who is from Asia Odyssey Travel. I Left My Heart In Zhangjiajie ❤️

I'm a Singaporean traveller. Chanced upon them while I googled and booked a last min private solo tour with AOT to Shanghai, Zhangjiajie and Chongqing. I was served by AOT staff Rita who was very patient in answering all my questions and last min requests and provided me with knowledgeable advice on my trip. Just like any holiday trip, there were some minor hiccups but still didn't affect or hinder my experience. I would like to thank all tour guides and drivers whom have been instrumental in making my trip a very memorable one. Special mention to my tour guide in Zhangjiajie Ms Rita Wang and 杨师傅，whom both served their client with their sincerest hearts and looking into the smallest details to ensure I get the best experience in Zhangjiajie. I would reccomend Asia Odyssey Travel to anyone who is looking for a good tour company for a wonderful holiday experience. Private tour to Bhutan

We are Austrians and contacted AOT for a tour to Bhutan. The itinerary was was interesting and all was planed well. Our highlights were the festival in Paro and the walk to the tiger nest. Our guide Mrs. Cheni gave us a good overview about Bhutan`s culture and tradition. During our tour the Prime Minister of India also made a visit to Bhutan and for two day the roads were blocked from 9:00 to 11:00am. In order to reach the festival of Paro before the road blockage Mrs. Cheni organized this trip for 6:00am. We were very satisfied with this tour and will recommend to our Austrian friends the company AOT and the guide Mrs. Cheni.

10 days Guizhou experience

10 days Guizhou experience As a senior with knee and back problems I was quite apprehensive thinking about going on this trip. But I am glad I did as it was an amazing experience especially with a wonderful tour guide like Howard. He was very caring and patient and took good care of everyone in our group. His English was remarkable and explained to us in detail about Guizhou’s culture and history which I found fascinating. Kudos to our driver Mr Yueh too. Such a cheerful guy and careful driver that in spite of our trips up and down the narrow mountain roads we felt safe. Thanks again to Howard and Shifu Yueh for making this a memorable trip.

10 Days Guizhou Experience

My first time travelling with Odyssey Travel . The organiser Vincent is good in arranging / organising our itinerary prior our trip. Our expect guide Howard , who accompanied us was needless to say much : Attentive, Informative, Patience, thoughtful .. After 10 days we are like friends , we will miss him. The itinerary was well planned to suit our group of mostly senior citizens with aches all over the body after 3rd day but importantly we made it ! Praises to our travel mates . Not to mention our driver Xiao Yue , he is small in size but he has a perfect 10 driving skills maneuver a U-turn on a busy street , no sweat to avoid obstacle with a huge trailer carrying a very long windmill on a narrow winding road. I would highly recommend to friends & myself for my next trip to China. A big Thank you to Howard & Xiao Yue for a memorable trip .

An amazing experience with a group of friends and an opportunity to meet new friends - It makes a tremendous difference having Howard as our tour guide - English speaking and so knowledgeable about the cultures and heritage of the places we visited. Nothing was too much for him and he went an extra mile for us seniors . The driver Mr Yeuh was an excellent driver and I was really impressed with his careful manoeuvres when our bus came across a castrophobic situation, no panic on the narrow winding roads . Both Howard and Mr Yueh blended very well with us - good team spirit . Not to be forgotten our treat of Moutai drinks on them and “Yum Seng” cajoles . An awesome experience !! I certainly would recommend both Howard and Mr Yueh

10 days Guizhou Experience

We started our 10 days Guizhou Experience arranged by Vincent of Asia Odyssey Travels from 20th March to 29th March visiting Anshun, Libo, Zhaoxing, Jiabang, Xijiang & Guiyang. The places of interest visited were awesome, beautiful & breathtaking especially the Jiabang rice terraces. The itinerary was ideal for us, a group of seniors thanks to Vincent's careful planning, advice & foresight we spent less hours on the road daily. We had a very experienced English speaking tour guide, Howard. Not only was his narrative clear & interesting but he was patient & took our questions well. He was patient, tolerant, thoughtful & considerate. Being a group of seniors he had our best interests in mind. He was also respectful & jovial too. The driver Mr. Yueh & him make a good team. Sifu Yueh driving skills are excellent & we felt safe with him driving us along winding roads up & down hill.

Excellent services n itinerary

The concern, caring n detailed attention and preparation and information provided by Ms Chia and Driver Leo are worth commenting. Before we started the trip till we ended the trip, we ve such an wonderful time on the sightseeing. Even the trip ended and I ve questions for Taipei , Leo helped me to find out. The before n after services are excellent. My husband shared same feedback. Leo also acted as photographer for us. Nice. Awesome.

Excellent Bhutan private tour service!

Excellent private tour service for Bhutan! Our guide, Ugyen, was extremely informed, patient, flexible, and full of useful information for our time in Bhutan. He went above and beyond to ensure that we had an excellent experience! I believe it is technically possible to travel without a tour guide through Bhutan as of 2023-4; however, I would not recommend it, due to lack of tourist infrastructure for solo travelers and an overall lower quality traveling experience. The itinerary planned by AOT flowed very well, and organizing everything pre-trip with Vincent was a breeze. We would highly recommend! Wouldn't have done it any other way.

It was a remarkable experience visiting Guizhou with so much adventures , fun and photo taking beautiful live scenery. Even tho there were so much walking , we were so excited and impressed and forgotten aching legs because with our tour guide, Howard, he made our journey so safe and memorable with his commitment and responsibilities of everyone. We have confidence with him being our leader being so patience and efficient overall. The driver, Yueh sifu was a super driver and safe knowing our life's was in his hand even on high winding mountains. This is the first time I experienced such an emotional farewell to Howard and Yueh sifu even tho I travelled alot. Thank you for sending these two to take care of our journey.

Wonderful Kunming!

It a good and smooth experience when I deal with Miss Jessica. She are really helpful through our journey to Kunming. When me and my family touched down at airport, the tour guide and drivers are really welcoming which we feel warm in our heart. Through our days in Kunming, there a lot a nice place that been arranged as our request such as Halal Restaurant and etc. The place really breathtaking and beautiful. Asia odyssey tours did a great job start to finish. Prior to leaving for our tour, Kyle was in frequent contact with a very quick response time. And once there, our tour guide (Karma) driver (Yeshi) were fantastic. Very knowledgeable and finny! Bhutan is a wonderful country and Karma and Yeshi made us feel right at home. They even invited us to one of their local hangouts one evening to play snookers. Highly recommend Asia odyssey tours.

Excellent service highly recommended

This is the first time we booked with Asia Odyssey and the 5 star reviews didn’t disappoint! Vincent and the whole team were outstanding from start to finish. Any specific requests accommodated quickly such as our ask to visit a remote part of the Great Wall in Jinshanling through to the excellent hotels throughout the stay. All our guides were fantastic with superb English language and the drivers all provided excellent service to navigate the traffic! Myself and my husband enjoyed a trip of a lifetime and have many happy memories of our first visit to China. An experience for the lifetime

Isaac, my tour operator, made an itinerary to the best of my choice. He tweaked it several times just so as to make it an experience for me, may it be meeting a model I've admired since I was a kid or getting to hike, he accommodated as much as he could. My guide, Chung Dorj, and driver, Geewan made an excellent team to explore Bhutan with. I highly recommend opting for Asia Odyssey and then for the people who travelled me around. A wonderful family trip for us

A wonderful family trip for us. My parents and I enjoyed it a lot! Kyle is always very responsive to my questions — his recommendations and advice also turned out to be very helpful. Our tourist guide, Rinzin was also great. He is fluent in English and Chinese, so he communicated with my parents very well. The itinerary for each day was clear and well-arranged. Each meal was taken care of with a lot of effort. We tried plenty of healthy organic vegetable products from Bhutan. Besides, we were lucky to have a very experienced driver. I didn't feel dizzy at all, even after the trips across the mountains.

India, Bhutan and Kathmandu- Excellent Trip!

From planning, visa's, hotels, guides and drivers, Asian Odyssey Travel was perfect. My wife and I just got back from enjoying our travel between Delhi, Agra, Bhutan and Kathmandu. We were met on arrival at Delhi and had guides and drivers for 10 days up to the time we arrived at the Kathmandu for our flight home. We were given top attention by everyone, including AOT's Kyle who kept watch during our trip. Everything was wonderful! The food and hotels were all excellent. Of course, the highlights were the Taj Mahal at sunrise, traveling through Bhutan, seeing their beautiful people (and Tigers Nest) and taking in the intensity of Kathmandu. If we ever travel to the area again, I would not hesitate to use AOT again!

Two week China Train Tour

We went to China for a two week train visit of four places - Shanghai, Huangshan, Xian and Beijing. Amazing !!! The tour was coordinated by Asia Odyssey Travel. Our tours were coordinated remotely by our very proficient and helpful agent, Nicole. She arranged our hotels, train tickets to travel between locations, and a guide with driver in each location. The connection with a local guide made our holiday experience both informative and much more personal. Nicole was responsive to our questions and concerns. She facilitated the purchase of train tickets and booking of hotels which would have been very difficult on our own (we don’t speak Mandarin, and it is hard to arrange financial transactions in China without WeChat Pay or Alipay). We were joined up with different travellers in each location - and enjoyed sharing our experience with them. My first time booking a tour to Bhutan…

My first time booking a tour to Bhutan with Asia Odyssey. I'm very glad that my tour agent Rex was very responsive and also accommodative to my requests. I remembered Rex immediately made a check with the local operator when I requested for a change in the rafting. I wanted to raft at the Pho Chhu river, instead of the usual Mo Chhu river. He met with some challenges because it was not common for tourist to raft at this river. But I'm glad he made it happened and I really enjoyed it! Also, a shoutout to my guide Kelzang and my driver Jazzy for making this trip a memorable one! They knew that I love to take photos so whenever we passed by any nice spot, they would stop the car and asked if I like to take some photos. Just 7 days, I took more than a thousand photos! Every spot of the country is just so photogenic :) Also, thanks to their sharing, I did learnt a lot about their local culture and the country's rich history. If you love nature, Bhutan is definitely worth visiting!

Splendid and Memorable

My first time booking a customised tour to China (Beijing, Xi an, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai) with Asia Odyssey. I'm very glad that my tour agent Issac. He was very responsive and also accommodative to my requests. We started with three persons in our group and added to five. He immediately made the adjustments. Also when our flight timing was changed, Issac readjusted our itinerary to cater to our timing. Throughout the trip, Issac check in on our progress, well-being whenever we moved to a new town. A special shoutout to our Beijing’s local guide, Helen. Besides being knowledgeable in local culture and the country's rich history, she is an observant and dedicated lady. Helen understands the likings of my teenager and recommends local snacks and souvenirs that are special in the area. We also had an opportunity to visit a local resident at their residence and spent an amazing time with them. I would also like to thank the other two local guides Candy and Terry for their sharing and hospitality. Asia Odyssey has definitely made my trip a great and memorable one.

Beautiful and majestic

The country scenery, the people, from the tour guide, driver, and hotel service staff were wonderful. We love the experience of having lunch and visiting the home of one of the villagers. amazing trip to one of the most secluded countries

I was a little bit worried at first because I don't know anyone from Bhutan, and it was hard to find information on the internet. But Asia Odyssey did not disappoint. The consultant (Kyle) is very patient and cater all my requests (including proof of company incorporation). I was supposedly in the group tour, but since my flight was canceled (by the airlines, not Asia Odyssey's fault) they even changed my tour to private! Thanks :)

Amazing Week in Tibet

We planned a 7-day private tour in Tibet with the help of Anthony from Asia Odyssey. He helped us with all the planning details, including advice on obtaining an entry visa for China, which is required for the Tibet entry permit, as well as booking a tour guide and all of our visits and lodging. Our guide Norbu met us in Lhasa and provided interesting and comprehensive cultural and historical background on all the sites we visited, taking care of all the interpretation and bureaucratic processes along the way. We would definitely highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in exploring this fascinating region.

5-Day Bhutan Tour

I really enjoyed the 5-day tour of Bhutan. Pema was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, and Yeshi was our friendly driver who got me everywhere safely. Bhutan is very much as beautiful and unique as I expected. Isaac, who arranged the tour made it easy for me to arrange from Australia. The only reason it is not 5-star is that whilst the hotels were lovely, there was a feeling that as a solo traveller I was not given such regard as the bigger European and US tour groups who were staying longer (eg room allocation). I would suggest that tour companies specialising in the solo traveller maybe build on relationships with hotels they use to ensure solo people are regarded as favourably as large groups. But overall this was a good experience and although it was a 5 day tour in essence it is only 4 days as the flight on the 5th day is at 7am.

Unforgettable

We chose Asia Odyssey Travel as it was the best offer that we have found in terms of value and what they have offered as a travel experience. We booked a 5 day tour for Bhutan and the experience did not disappoint us in any way. We were taken good care of trough all the stages starting with the booking itself, itinerary, visa and all the details for pick up for airport. We have visited National Memorial Chorten,Takin Sanctuary,Taktshang (Tiger’s nest), Punakha Dzong (just to name the most important ones) and we were impressed by the beauty of the country as well as how friendly our guide was. We had the pleasure of booking our Bhutan adventure with Asia odyssey travel and it was an experience we’ll never forget. It all started with Kyle, who promptly responded to our inquiry for a quotation to Bhutan. Despite our last minute request and the urgency of our travel dates, Kyle was quick to provide us with the necessary details. However, due to a hiccup during the payment process through WISE, it took about 15 days for the payment to reach Kyle. Throughout this period, Kyle was incredibly patient and kept us updated on the progress of the payment. His professionalism in handling the situation and assisting us with arranging the required documents, such as insurance coverage and e-visa, was truly commendable. Upon our arrival in Bhutan, we were warmly welcomed by our tour guide, Mr Bhim and our driver, Mr wangchuk. From the moment we met them, we knew we were in good hand. They formed a perfect team, seamlessly working together to ensure our trip was nothing short of amazing. One of the highlight was when they went above and beyond to accommodate our request to visit certain areas not initially in the itinerary. A true testament to their dedication was when Mr Bhim informed us the night before that certain highway and places of interest would be closed the next day due to the state VIP guests. He promptly picked us up at 6:30am to ensure we avoided any inconvenience. Had we waited until 7am, we would have been stuck at the hotel due to State VIP arrangements. Both Mr Bhim and Mr wangchuk made sure our journey started early and ended at 5pm, maximising our time and experience in Thimphu. Throughout our trip, both Mr Bhim and Mr Wangchuk went out of their way to make us comfortable. They helped carry our belongings, provided us with umbrella during unpredictable weather, and shared they’d vast knowledge of Bhutanese Buddhism and culture. A standout moment was trekking to tiger nest, where both Mr Bhim and Mr Wangchuk accompanied us, sharing stories and insight about the place. It was an enriching experience that made the trek even more memorable. Overall, our journey with Asia odyssey travel was nothing short of exceptional, thanks to the professionalism, dedication and care of Mr Kyle, Mr Bhim and Mr Wangchuk. That turned what could have been challenging situation into seamless experience, ensuring we had the best time exploring the beautiful country of Bhutan. We highly recommend Asia odyssey travel for anyone looking to embark on an unforgettable adventure in Bhutan. Thank you, Kyle, Bhim and Wangchuk for creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Really great 5 day trip to Bhutan

Really great 5 day trip to Bhutan. This was made all the more enjoyable by both the guide, Namgay and driver Mr. Tshering. Namgay has encyclopedic knowledge of Bhutan, it's culture, history and practices, so was able to answer any questions and provide important context at sites we visited. While we spent more time with the guide, our driver too went above expectations - importantly being safe, reliable and flexible to our needs. Both were great hosts, personable and polite. Each day of the trip just got better and better. I cannot recommend both of them highly enough. A place and two people I would hope to see again in the future.

Both my wife & I with a group of friends had the pleasure of embarking on a tour led by our English speaking tour guide Howard from the 20-29 March, 2024. Trusted tour Agent

We started planning our China trip quite late and didn’t expect Asia Odyssey Travel to arrange it and got everything in place in less than a week. Kudos to Allan whom planned the whole trip based on our requests! As Beijing was snowing heavily prior to our trip, one of our domestic flight was cancelled due to the weather. An alternative route was arranged without any delay. As we travelled to Beijing, Xian, Guilin and Shanghai, all the English speaking tour guides are very professional and they took care of us well. Overall a positive, worry-free experience

My guide Candy was very knowledgeable and kind! I like the way she set up the tour. Whenever we went to a place, she would give me information first, and the let me explore. She also made sure I got enough pictures! Additionally, Candy even helped me with personal concerns. I highly recommend the 3-day Beijing tour (and Candy) if you want to have all the basics covered. It allows for a carefree experience, as you don't have to worry about transportation, accommodation, and most meals. If you want to experience actual (modern) life in Beijing, though, you will have to do some more exploring on your own.

We had Olivia for our tour guide, she was wonderful and had vast amount of knowledge about the locations and history of China. She was also very understanding and flexible, which result in a very personalised tour. We were able to visit all the locations we wanted to. Private tour for a young couple in China

We booked a private tour across few cities in China with odyssey Travel. We had an amazing experience and highly recommend them. The organisation process was very efficient and Isaac - the organiser - has been incredibly supportive and provided great advices. For example he informed us about activities most liked during tours so that we could add them to ours. He also ensured all the transportations were as short and as comfortable as possible. 8 Day Taiwan Tour - Excellent Experience

My overall experience has been excellent! Our driver has been very punctual, kind, and helpful. He even provided a walking cane for my grandparent when we didn't bring any. The car was very comfortable, and his driving was both timely and safe. My booking experience has also been very great. The representative I talked to was very helpful and accomodating. The itinerary we ended up agreeing on was not too taxing nor empty, the perfect amount. She did her best to ensure we had a pleasant time in Taiwan, even though she didn't have to. Every request of mine was actually given thought, and if realistic, was accepted. Overall, this tour has been pleasant at every step.

Excellent Taiwan holiday with Raymond and Jiajia!

We had a great time at Taiwan from 26 Nov to 3 Dec 2023. Jiajia is very responsive and attentive to our needs. She is always contactable and proactively checking in with us before and during our trip to make sure we have a good holiday. Our tour guide, Raymond Su is fantastic! He always go beyond his duty to take very good care of our elderly family members. Thoughtful and helpful Chia

Chia has been very helpful since day 1 she contacted me on the transport. Even during our trip throughout from 15th - 21st Nov, she has been constantly checking on us if everything is ok and all. She is very sweet to get one of family member a birthday cake on 17th Nov. This show that she pay attention to all her clients passport details and to go the extra miles to arrange it.

Great experience, perfect organization

Our trip was great from start to the end. Everything was well organized and smooth, our agent Kyle was very reactive whenever we had any questions before and also during the trip. Encountered visa problems before leaving US but Isaac managed to rearrange tour schedule and all went smoothly. Guide Tashi and driver Urgan could not be nicer or more helpful. A tour of amazing landscapes, religions and traditions

Tibet-Nepal-India We went on a 26 days tour organized by Mr. Isaac, who was a very efficient adviser suggesting the places to see in each country we visited. Mr. Isaac was very helpful with the process to get the Chinese visa and especially with the procedure to obtain the permit to enter Tibet. In Tibet we had an excellent tour guide, Mr. Lobsan, very professional, who spoke great English and accompanied us in Lhasa for a city tour and monasteries and also to the visit to the Everest base camp from the Tibet side. It was a wonderful experience to see the sunset from this place. In Nepal, we also had very good English-speaking tour guides. Mr. Ragun in Kathmandu, very knowledgeable of the city as well as of Buddhism, and in Pokhara Mr. Krisna gave us a very good tour of the city, the caves, and experience a nice mountain view of the sunrise. In India we had a private tour organized by Mr. Isaac to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur and Udaipur. All this time we were with Mr. Man Mohan Singh, an excellent driver, very professional and knowledgeable of all the places. I Left My Heart In Zhangjiajie ❤️

I'm a Singaporean traveller. Chanced upon them while I googled and booked a last min private solo tour with AOT to Shanghai, Zhangjiajie and Chongqing. I was served by AOT staff Rita who was very patient in answering all my questions and last min requests and provided me with knowledgeable advice on my trip. Just like any holiday trip, there were some minor hiccups but still didn't affect or hinder my experience. I would like to thank all tour guides and drivers whom have been instrumental in making my trip a very memorable one. Special mention to my tour guide in Zhangjiajie Ms Rita Wang and 杨师傅，whom both served their client with their sincerest hearts and looking into the smallest details to ensure I get the best experience in Zhangjiajie. Private tour to Bhutan

We are Austrians and contacted AOT for a tour to Bhutan. The itinerary was was interesting and all was planed well. Our highlights were the festival in Paro and the walk to the tiger nest. Our guide Mrs. Cheni gave us a good overview about Bhutan`s culture and tradition. During our tour the Prime Minister of India also made a visit to Bhutan and for two day the roads were blocked from 9:00 to 11:00am. In order to reach the festival of Paro before the road blockage Mrs. Cheni organized this trip for 6:00am. We were very satisfied with this tour and will recommend to our Austrian friends the company AOT and the guide Mrs. Cheni.

10 days Guizhou experience As a senior with knee and back problems I was quite apprehensive thinking about going on this trip. But I am glad I did as it was an amazing experience especially with a wonderful tour guide like Howard. He was very caring and patient and took good care of everyone in our group. His English was remarkable and explained to us in detail about Guizhou’s culture and history which I found fascinating. Kudos to our driver Mr Yueh too. 10 Days Guizhou Experience

My first time travelling with Odyssey Travel . The organiser Vincent is good in arranging / organising our itinerary prior our trip. Our expect guide Howard , who accompanied us was needless to say much : Attentive, Informative, Patience, thoughtful .. After 10 days we are like friends , we will miss him. The itinerary was well planned to suit our group of mostly senior citizens with aches all over the body after 3rd day but importantly we made it ! Praises to our travel mates . Not to mention our driver Xiao Yue , he is small in size but he has a perfect 10 driving skills maneuver a U-turn on a busy street , no sweat to avoid obstacle with a huge trailer carrying a very long windmill on a narrow winding road. I would highly recommend to friends & myself for my next trip to China. A big Thank you to Howard & Xiao Yue for a memorable trip .

An amazing experience with a group of friends and an opportunity to meet new friends - It makes a tremendous difference having Howard as our tour guide - English speaking and so knowledgeable about the cultures and heritage of the places we visited. Nothing was too much for him and he went an extra mile for us seniors . The driver Mr Yeuh was an excellent driver and I was really impressed with his careful manoeuvres when our bus came across a castrophobic situation, no panic on the narrow winding roads . Both Howard and Mr Yueh blended very well with us - good team spirit . Not to be forgotten our treat of Moutai drinks on them and “Yum Seng” cajoles . An awesome experience !! I certainly would recommend both Howard and Mr Yueh

10 days Guizhou Experience

We started our 10 days Guizhou Experience arranged by Vincent of Asia Odyssey Travels from 20th March to 29th March visiting Anshun, Libo, Zhaoxing, Jiabang, Xijiang & Guiyang. The places of interest visited were awesome, beautiful & breathtaking especially the Jiabang rice terraces. The itinerary was ideal for us, a group of seniors thanks to Vincent's careful planning, advice & foresight we spent less hours on the road daily. We had a very experienced English speaking tour guide, Howard. Not only was his narrative clear & interesting but he was patient & took our questions well. He was patient, tolerant, thoughtful & considerate. Being a group of seniors he had our best interests in mind. He was also respectful & jovial too. The driver Mr. Yueh & him make a good team. Sifu Yueh driving skills are excellent & we felt safe with him driving us along winding roads up & down hill.

The concern, caring n detailed attention and preparation and information provided by Ms Chia and Driver Leo are worth commenting. Before we started the trip till we ended the trip, we ve such an wonderful time on the sightseeing. Even the trip ended and I ve questions for Taipei , Leo helped me to find out. Excellent Bhutan private tour service!

Excellent private tour service for Bhutan! Our guide, Ugyen, was extremely informed, patient, flexible, and full of useful information for our time in Bhutan. He went above and beyond to ensure that we had an excellent experience! I believe it is technically possible to travel without a tour guide through Bhutan as of 2023-4; however, I would not recommend it, due to lack of tourist infrastructure for solo travelers and an overall lower quality traveling experience. The itinerary planned by AOT flowed very well, and organizing everything pre-trip with Vincent was a breeze. We would highly recommend! Wouldn't have done it any other way.

It was a remarkable experience visiting Guizhou with so much adventures , fun and photo taking beautiful live scenery. Even tho there were so much walking , we were so excited and impressed and forgotten aching legs because with our tour guide, Howard, he made our journey so safe and memorable with his commitment and responsibilities of everyone. We have confidence with him being our leader being so patience and efficient overall. The driver, Yueh sifu was a super driver and safe knowing our life's was in his hand even on high winding mountains. This is the first time I experienced such an emotional farewell to Howard and Yueh sifu even tho I travelled alot. Thank you for sending these two to take care of our journey.

Wonderful Kunming!

It a good and smooth experience when I deal with Miss Jessica. She are really helpful through our journey to Kunming. When me and my family touched down at airport, the tour guide and drivers are really welcoming which we feel warm in our heart. Through our days in Kunming, there a lot a nice place that been arranged as our request such as Halal Restaurant and etc. The place really breathtaking and beautiful. Race Across the World review: Return of BBC smash proves travel is best without a smartphone

I have to admit that I find travel so exhausting that I’m at a loss as to why anyone would willingly watch an episode of Race Across the World , let alone have the stamina to keep up with the whole nine hours of viewing that lies before us.

Having tagged along vicariously for the first leg of their journey, north to south across most of Japan, Race is best understood as being like tourism but in a more intense, condensed, concentrated and indeed exhausting form. The five pairs of contestants, ranging from annoying siblings barely in their twenties to a reassuringly mellow couple in their sixties, are tasked with travelling from snowy Sapporo in northern Japan down to the paradise island of Lombok in Indonesia, via various waypoints in Korea, Cambodia and Malaysia – some 15,000 kilometres in total.

Just like any backpacking holiday, the idea is that you move as fast as possible for the least cost (the budget is fixed at £1,390, the price of two air tickets from Japan to Indonesia), and in order to make the best of the adventure try and squeeze in some sightseeing, local culture and pick up a bit of casual work along the way to pay the bills. So it is a race, in the sense that you want to get to the checkpoints and to Lombok first, and win the £20,000 prize money, but to do it within budget and with some actual pleasure along the way. It’s all about balancing these priorities, and that essential nuance gives the show its charm. The only forms of transport that are banned are planes and the ultra-fast Japanese bullet trains, which would spoil the vibe. They should probably call it “The Sort-of Race Across the World”, if accuracy is the thing.

This, therefore, isn’t a full-on scramble, like some version of Challenge Anneka or a leisurely, carefree Portillo-esque travelogue , but one where the contestants have to find a more optimal vacation balance. It was interesting that the winners on this first Japanese leg are Eugenie and Isabel, a mother and daughter who took a pretty long detour to see the isolated, tranquil and lovely offshore island of Sado, on the “wrong” coast from the point of view of sheer speed. It’s so off the beaten track, even for the Japanese, that it was once used as a place of exile for out of favour politicians and the like.

Yet they still arrived, after five days on the road and having missed a connection, two minutes before twins Alfie and Owen, who just about managed to squeeze in a glimpse of Mount Fuji along their supposedly efficient but actually overly panicky and rushed route. It seems that Isabel’s impressive attempt to get a random Japanese boy to teach her the language on a long bus ride paid off; public signage makes little concession to the foreigner, and the universally friendly citizenry speak surprisingly little English. Our contestants don’t remark on it, but Japanese society is an evidently self-sufficient affair, something visitors always find a novelty.

Stephen and Ivy, the retired couple, aren’t that bothered about coming first, and took their opportunity to tarry at a wasabi farm, pulling up roots, burning their mouths off and cadging a useful lift. Maybe it was something about the famous sauce, but Ivy unloaded how “unintentionally offensive” her husband of many years is, just as he’s asking his hosts how old they all are: “Some have learned to tolerate him, but I love him”. Touching.

What’s also striking about Race Across the World , and something sadly impractical in the “real” world away from reality TV, is how much richer the travel experience of all those involved is because they are deprived, under the rules of the show, of their smartphones. They end up exploring their relationships with their journey partners as much as the picturesque countryside and bustling cities.

The young siblings from Yorkshire, Betty and James, for example, seem to be getting to know each other for the first time on Japanese trains and in random cafes, despite having grown up together. Something similar is also true of the two sets of mum and daughter: Eugenie and Isabel, and Sharon and Brydie. Thrown together and almost forced to talk to one another rather than scrolling through social media, their personal odyssey acquires an emotional and, around the Buddhist shrines, a spiritual dimension. As noted by young James, an unimaginative traveller by his own admission, you don’t get that with a week “having it off in Ayia Napa”. A different kind of pursuit, that.

How many days to spend in Beijing for a tour? The ideal length of time to explore in Beijing depends on your interests, schedule, and budget. However, to get a good feel for the city and see the major attractions, we would recommend to spend at least 2-4 full days in Beijing .

During this time, you can visit iconic landmarks such as the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and Temple of Heaven, discover historic neighborhoods like the Hutongs, sample delicious food (such as Beijing Duck & dumplings) at local eateries and markets, and experience the vibrant culture and nightlife of the city. Of course, there are many other interesting sites to explore in and around Beijing, such as the Confucius Temple (Guozijian), Lama Temple (Yonghegong), and the Olympic Park (Birds' Nest & Water Cube), among others.

When you have 5 or more days , you can travel to another city like Xian by high speed train after touring Beijing .

The Great Wall of China is a vast and complex system of fortifications that stretches across several Chinese provinces. While some of the most popular and well-known sections of the wall are located near Beijing, there are many other sections of the wall that are worth visiting and can be accessed from other cities. Here are the places to visit the Great Wall of China :

1. Great Wall of Beijing : The most popular and well-known sections of the wall are located near Beijing, such as the Mutianyu Great Wall , Jingshanling Great Wall , Simatai Great Wall , Jiankou Great Wall , and Badaling Great Wall.

2. Great Wall of Shanhaiguan: This section of the Great Wall is located in Qinhuangdao, a coastal city in Hebei province. It is known for its unique architecture and stunning coastal views.

3. Great Wall of Jiayuguan: This section of the Great Wall is located in Jiayuguan, a city in Gansu province. It is known for its western-style fortifications and desert landscapes.

4. Great Wall of Dunhuang: This section of the Great Wall is located in Dunhuang, a city in Gansu province. It is known for its colorful murals and stunning desert landscapes.

5. Great Wall of Henan Province: There are several sections of the Great Wall located in Henan province, including the Yuntai Mountain section and the Yinxu section, which is known for its ancient ruins.

6. Great Wall of Inner Mongolia: There are several sections of the Great Wall located in Inner Mongolia, including the Hulunbuir Grassland section and the Hohhot section, which is known for its unique architecture.

The amount of time you should spend in Xian depends on your travel plans and interests. A typical itinerary includes 2 to 3 days to visit the major attractions in Xian , but it is possible to spend more time if you want to explore the city and its surrounding areas in more depth.

Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum Layout

The T erracotta Warriors and Horses Museum , which houses the main pits containing the warriors, is divided into three sections: Pit 1, Pit 2, and Pit 3 .

Pit 1: The largest and most impressive of the three pits, Pit 1, houses the main army formation, with over 6,000 figures (2,000 are currently on display). The pit covers an area of approximately 14,260 square meters, equivalent to the size of an airplane hangar.

Pit 2: This pit is notable for its complex layout and variety of military figures, including standing and kneeling archers, cavalry, charioteers, and infantry. Despite being smaller than Pit 1, Pit 2 offers a richer diversity of the army, providing further insights into ancient military strategy and the mysteries of the army array.

Pit 3: Known as the command center, Pit 3 is the smallest but considered the most important pit due to its perceived role as the army's "headquarters."

Our Recommended Visiting Route: Pit 1 – Pit 3 – Pit 2 - Exhibition Hall

Begin with Pit 1 as it's the largest and most stunning, offering a grand first impression. Spend ample time here observing the soldiers' intricate details and formations. Next, move on to Pit 3, where you will see the army's "headquarters." Then, proceed to Pit 2, where you will encounter a more diverse array of military figures. Finally, conclude your visit at the Exhibition Hall, where you can marvel at the history of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses.

Suggested Visiting Time: 2-3 hours

The Longji Rice Terraces are primarily inhabited by the Zhuang and Yao ethnic minority groups. These two ethnic groups have a long history in the region and have played a significant role in the cultivation and preservation of terraces.

The Zhuang people are the largest ethnic minority group in China and have a strong presence in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where the Longji Rice Terraces are located. They have their own unique language, culture, and traditions, and are known for their agricultural practices and skilled craftsmanship.

The Yao people , also known as the Mien or Iu Mien, are another ethnic minority group that resides in the Longji Rice Terrace area. They have their own distinct language, customs, and clothing, and are known for their expertise in herbal medicine and traditional embroidery.

Visitors to the Longji Rice Terraces have the opportunity to interact with the local Zhuang people in Ping’an Village and Yao people in Dazhai Village and Huangluo Yao Village , learn about their cultural heritage, and appreciate their contributions to the preservation of the terraces. The ethnic minority villages in the area offer insights into their traditional way of life, including their unique architecture, festivals, and traditional clothing.

The number of days you need in Guilin depends on your travel preferences and the depth of exploration you desire. Usually, it is suggested to spend at least 2 days in Guilin and Yangshuo to experience the main highlights. It allows you to visit popular attractions such as the Li River , Elephant Trunk Hill, Reed Flute Cave, and explore the picturesque Yangshuo countryside.

However, if you wish to delve deeper into the region and immerse yourself in its natural beauty, culture, and activities, it is recommended to allocate 3 to 6 days or more. You can have in-depth exploration of attractions like the Longji Rice Terraces, Yangshuo's karst landscape, Xingping Town on the bank of the Li River, ethnic minority villages, cycling or hiking adventures, and leisurely river cruises.

Zhangjiajie is a small city but has many things to see and do. Travelers are highly recommended to spend at least 3 days in Zhangjiajie , and most of them prefer to spend 4 days, while some may even plan for 5 days in this Avatar destination.

The number of days to spend in Zhangjiajie depends on your interests and the activities you wish to engage in. However, to fully explore the highlights of Zhangjiajie and its surrounding areas, a recommended duration is around 3 to 5 days. This timeframe allows you to visit popular attractions such as the Yuanjiajie Avatar Mountains (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Wulingyuan), Tianzi Mountain, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, and Tianmen Mountain.

Within 2 to 3 days , you can immerse yourself in the stunning natural landscapes of both Wulingyuan (world heritage) and Tianmen Mountain. Within 4 to 5 days , you can also explore other nearby attractions, such as the glass bridge at Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and the charming Fenghuang Ancient Town. Of course, if you have more time available, you can extend your stay to further immerse yourself in the region's beauty and delve deeper into the local culture.

A Yangtze River Cruise can last from 4 to 11 days, the most common options are 4-5 night cruises between Chongqing to Yichang  that cover key attractions such as the Three Gorges, Three Gorges Dam.

Wuhan to Shanghai Downstream: 7 Days and 6 Nights

I'm a Singaporean traveller who booked a private solo tour. I chanced upon AOT after I googled and decided to travel last min. My planner from AOT named Rita was very patient towards all my request and changes, she is knowledgeable and provided excellent advice for my 8 days trip arrangement from Shanghai, Zhangjiajie N Chongqing. Although there were very minor hiccups just like any overseas holiday, it was still a well planned trip.
