2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Tour Launched in India at Rs. 5.24 Lakh

2017 Swift Dzire Tour is based on the entry LXi (o) variant of second generation Dzire sedan; gets powered by either 1.2L K-series petrol or 1.3L DDiS diesel

Maruti Suzuki has the subcompact sedan segment ruled by its Swift Dzire ever since it entered the Indian market. The second generation of the sedan was launched in 2012 and it was a thorough departure from the original Dzire. Based on the third-gen Swift compact hatchback, it measured less than four metres in length and shared engines with its popular sibling.

With changes to the suspension and introduction of dual-tone beige and black interiors in contrast with the Swift’s all-black theme, it stamped its authority with a very aggressive price range. It gave way for a new version in February 2015 with more refinement version and was rated as the most fuel efficient diesel car in the country.

Later, a four-speed automatic in petrol and five-speed AGS automatic in diesel entered the scenes. The Swift Dzire’s overall monthly sales figure is not just decided by the existing model though as the first generation version has for years being used as the Tour model addressing the needs of fleet and taxi operators.

We exclusively reported that the production of the original model being so far badged as Dzire Tour had finally come to an end after nine years and it would be replaced by the second generation Dzire. Due to the bigger proportions over the standard model, the Dzire Tour has been a big hit compared the taxi versions of its rivals like the Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent.

The new version, which we spotted inside and out a few days ago has finally been launched in India. It will offer the occupants better comfort comparing the last two generations of the standard Dzire.

The Indo-Japanese automaker reduces the luggage capacity at the back as more than 120 litres of bootspace has been shaved off in the new Dzire Tour 2017 due to its sub-four metre length. Standing in line with the next-gen Dzire, the “Swift” name has been dropped on the Tour model.

The 2017 Maruti Dzire Tour has been priced at Rs. 5.25 lakh for petrol and Rs. 5.99 lakh for the diesel version (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Maruti Suzuki seems to be availing plenty of discounts on both the variants of the new Dzire for increased number of sales.

2017 Maruti Dzire Tour Engine and Specifications

The outgoing Dzire was sold with the proven and fuel-efficient 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that makes 75 bhp of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm. Sending power to the front wheels is though a five-speed manual gearbox.

For the new taxi, however, it is accompanied by the 1.2-litre K-series petrol motor that develops 86 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It will likely be sold with a CNG kit as well in the future. The features are still entry-level though as the 2017 Dzire Tour is based on the entry-level LXi (o) trim of the standard model as you can seen in our interior shots.

2017 Maruti Dzire Tour Exterior and Features

The exterior is basic too with black plastic grille, black wing mirrors and fog lamp area but the hideous black treatment at the front and rear of the outgoing model have given way for the body-coloured bumpers. The headlamps are not much angular as it is based on the second-gen regular Dzire.

The interior has black and beige theme with seats upholstered in beige while devoid of an audio system. Other important features are faux wooden trim, manual AC, power windows, 14-inch steel wheels and multi-info display.

2017 Maruti Dzire Tour Dimensions

The second generation Maruti Dzire Tour is proportionally as similar to its standard sibling. It measures about 3,995 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,555 mm in height and features a wheelbase of 2,430 mm with 170 mm ground clearance.

2017 Maruti Dzire Tour Colours

For the first time, the Maruti taxi will be sold in multiple paint schemes. The DZire Tour comes available in a choice of Arctic Pearl White, Silky Silver and Midnight Black colour options.

2017 Maruti Dzire: All you need to know

Maruti has launched its third model in India this year, the new third-gen Dzire. The all-new sedan is based on Suzuki's new Heartect platform, the same as on the yet-to-launch new Swift and the Baleno and is wider and lighter than its predecessor. Interestingly, this time around Maruti has done a lot to separate the identity of its bestselling sedan from its hatchback sibling by bringing in such as more noticeable changes to styling and dropping the Swift prefix from the name completely.

Here is all you need to know about Maruti's new compact sedan:

Available in eight variants As with its predecessor, the new Dzire carries forward the L, V and Z nomenclatures as seen on other Marutis retailing via the standard outlets. However, apart from the standard three variants for petrol and diesel, the new Dzire now also gets a Z+ variant that sits atop the line-up. All but the base L variant comes with the choice of a manual or AMT gearbox.

Based on Baleno's platform While initial reports had claimed that the new sedan could be based on the old platform, the third-gen Dzire shares its platform with the new Swift and thus the Baleno. Called the 'Heartect' platform by Maruti, the new architecture features the use of high tensile steel to help conserve weight and thus improve performance. The new Dzire now weighs less than 1,000kg with the heaviest variant tipping the scales at 990kg.

Engines carried forward - AMT now available in petrol too The new Dzire carries forward the existing set of engines from the current model. This includes the 1.2-litre K-series petrol motor and the tried and tested 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. Both units are paired with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard with the option of an AMT gearbox also available.

India's most fuel-efficient diesel car While Maruti hasn't gone into the details like changes in engine tuning, the new Dzire replaces the Ciaz SHVS as India's most fuel-efficient diesel car. The diesel Dzire gets an ARAI rating of 28.4kpl, overtaking the Ciaz's 28.09kpl. The petrol sedan, on the other hand, is rated to return a respectable 22kpl.

Gets an upmarket interior As with the exterior, the cabin too, shares common elements such as the dashboard and seats, though there are notable differences across the centre console and instrument cluster, along with a bigger focus on providing a premium feel. The dashboard, while similar to that in the new Swift, doesn't follow the same circular theme. The centre console is new with new wedge-shaped air-con vents, new air-con controls and a more rectangular instrument cluster. As before, the car gets a dual-tone interior, along with faux-wood inserts throughout the cabin and the steering wheel to lend a more premium feel.

Offer a fair bit of kit Maruti has also packed in quite a bit of kit into the new Dzire. While base LXi/LDi variants only get basic kit, dual airbags and ABS are offered as standard while top variants get equipment such as the SmartPlay infotainment system, auto LED projector headlamps, auto climate control, key-less entry and rear air-con vents.

Shares exterior styling bits with the upcoming 2018 Swift As with its predecessors, the new Dzire shares common styling elements with the upcoming Swift, though there are notable changes in design as compared to the hatchback, such as the more flowing sedan profile and changes to the front end. There are, however, still common elements such as the headlamps, bonnet and front fenders.

Top variants pricey Maruti has positioned the Dzire at the heart of the compact sedan segment in terms of pricing though the top variants do get a touch pricey. The petrol line-up is priced from Rs 5.45 - 8.41 lakh, while the diesel models are priced from Rs 6.45 - 9.41 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

Booking details Dealers are quoting waiting periods of up to three months for select variants of the new Dzire, though in some places, the base L trim is available off the shelf. This though is subject to change with the bookings for the car currently on the rise.

2017 Maruti Dzire colours, specifications, mileage, images & complete details

The new Maruti Dzire 2017 has acheived an unprecedented milestone in the Indian car industry. Maruti Suzuki has claimed to have sold 1 lakh units of the new-gen Dzire in India, in just five and a half months. Thanks to this acheivement, the new Dzire 2017 is now the most sold car in India, in the smallest span of time.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the highly awaited 2017 Dzire compact sedan on 16 May 2017. At the time of launch, prices of the petrol range start at Rs. 5.45 lakh, while the diesel lineup was pegged from Rs. 6.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Dzire is available with 4 variants and two engine options.

The new-gen Maruti Dzire marks the entry of the third-gen model, but this time Maruti Suzuki has dumped the Swift name from the moniker, and thus the car is called the Dzire, not the Swift Dzire. This has been done to give the compact sedan an identity of its own. Additionally, to achieve this result, Maruti has also significantly differentiated the exterior and interior design of the compact sibling from the new-gen Swift.

Maruti Suzuki has already started accepting bookings of the 2017 Dzire compact sedan. Customers interested in getting their hands on the car can now book their new Dzire at any authorised dealership across the country. The company has tagged the Maruti Dzire’s booking amount at Rs. 11,000. Remaining amount will need to be paid at the time of delivery. Knowing the popularity of the Dzire brand in India and the amount of improvements made to the new model, it is obvious that the car will be having huge waiting periods after its India launch. As a result, if you are someone who wants to buy the Dzire, go ahead and book one before its launch to cut short the wait.

The Dzire is a fairly popular car. In fact, it is the second best-selling car in the country. During the last fiscal, Maruti sold 1.99 lakh units of the compact sedan in India. This figure is over 50% of the total number of compact sedans from other manufacturers sold during the same time period. As a result, with the launch of the new Dzire 2017, Maruti will surely be hoping to give a boost to its already popular brand.

New Maruti Dzire 2017 waiting period and bookings

According to some insider sources, Maruti Suzuki currently has 30,000 bookings for the new Dzire 2017. The compact sedan is having a waiting period of up to 14 weeks in most cities, which is expected to increase in the near future, owing to the value for money prices of the new Dzire. Customers seem to have an inclination towards petrol models of the new Dzire, which is why the waiting period of 2017 Maruti Dzire petrol is more than that of the diesel.

New Maruti Dzire 2017 Specifications

Not much has been changed in terms of specifications of the new-gen Maruti Dzire. It continues to be available with two engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel. Both these engines are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an automated manual transmission (AMT) is available from the V variant onwards.

New Maruti Dzire 2017 mileage

The petrol models of the Maruti Dzire can deliver a mileage of 22 km/l, while the diesel variants get a company claimed fuel economy figure of 28.48 km/l. This makes the 2017 Maruti Dzire the most fuel efficient car of India.

New Maruti Dzire 2017 Features

  • LED projector headlamps with DRLs
  • New SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment display
  • Reverse Camera
  • Navigation support
  • New steering wheel
  • Twin-pod instrument cluster with MID
  • Automatic Climate Control

2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Exteriors

The front fascia is similar to that of the new-gen Swift, though it gets a large chrome grille at the front and revised bumper. The car also gets new LED projectors and DRLs on the top-end model and a completely fresh set of 15-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels.

The side profile looks inspired from the Baleno, owing to the curvy doors and sloping roof line. The rear gets a new boot with a sharper lip, new wrap-around taillights, and a tweaked rear bumper.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Interiors

On the inside, the Maruti Dzire continues to adorn a dual-tone black and beige layout. However, all parts have been changed on the new model. The dashboard is inspired from the 2018 Suzuki Swift that has already been revealed internationally. The top part is finished in black, while the lower area gets a beige treatment. Additionally, designers have added faux wood inserts around the cabin to add a bit of contrast and detailing. The steering wheel is an all-new three-spoke, flat bottom unit. It will come with a leather-wrapped wheel on the top-end trims.

At the rear, the Dzire 2017 comes with a new middle armrest with two cupholders and a much improved rear kneeroom. In fact, Maruti claims to have added 5 cm of legroom in the new model, thanks to careful packaging of the interiors. Further improving comfort the comfort for rear occupants is the addition of rear AC vents. This will make cooling the cabin on a super hot day a relatively easier task.

Maruti Dzire 2017 Review

The New Dzire marks a significant departure from the boxy design language of the current model. It not only looks more proportionate from the side, but is also a lot curvier. The engine options have been carried forward, which is not really a bad thing as the 1.2 petrol and 1.3 diesel mills are the best power plants currently in the segment.

  • These new Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzires are the top-end petrol variants
  • So far we have seen 3 new colours - dark red, dark blue, and brown
  • The 1.3 litre DDIS will come with the company's SHVS technology

The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is all set to be launched in a few months and the company is currently readying the car for the big arrival. While we have already shared the first spy images of the production version of the car and also the pictures of the new interior , the car has been spotted again and this time in a couple of new colours and new alloy wheels. The new colours - a shade of dark red and blue, will be in addition to the copper brown and white colour options that we have already seen.

The latest images appear to be of the top-of-the-line petrol variant (ZXI+) as indicated by the VVT badging on the front fenders. We finally have a decent view of the profile of the new-generation Swift Dzire and we have to say there are a lot of improvements over the current generation model. The plummy silhouette of the outgoing Swift Dzire has been toned down to offer a sleeker design. As mentioned in our earlier reports the front section receives the most number of updates with the new chrome-surrounded grille, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and a new bonnet. The front bumper has also been changed and now features a larger airdam with some chrome accents on both side and round foglamps in plastic cladding.

Coming to the sides, along with the new multi-spoke alloy wheels the new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire also features a new electrically operable outside rear-view mirrors with integrated turn signal lights. The roofline has changed a bit and so has to black B-pillar. The rear, on the other hand, looks very much similar to what you see in the current model but of course with some minor changes like redesigned LED taillamps, new chrome decals and a revised rear bumper and boot lid.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire seen here are the top-end petrol variants

The new Swift Dzire will be powered by the same 1.2 litre petrol engine along with the tried and tested 1.3 litre DDIS diesel unit. There are no changes made to the petrol engine but the diesel motor will come with the company's mild hybrid system - Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS). The engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional AMT unit for the diesel version. The petrol version of the current model gets a 4-speed auto box as an option but there is a chance that the company might replace it with the AMT unit. This, however, can only be confirmed when the launch happens.

Engine & Transmission

Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.

The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.

A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.

All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.

Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.

Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.

Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.

The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.

This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)

Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions

Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels

A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.

Set by the Indian Government, this governs the amount of air pollutants released by cars to make the atmosphere safer for humans.

Manufacturers today offer turbochargers to boost engine power without affecting its fuel economy. Superchargers are found in more expensive cars but on the downside, they are not very efficient.

Turbochargers are more effective but require plenty of heat management. Superchargers, meanwhile, offer linear bump in power but they are comparatively more complex.

Dimensions & Weight

The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.

  • Length: 3995

Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.

A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.

  • Width: 1735

Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.

The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

  • Height: 1515

Taller the car, the more headroom there is on offer inside the cabin. However, a tall boy stance also affect the car’s centre of gravity which can cause more body roll.

The space between the center of the front and rear wheels.

  • Wheelbase: 2450

The longer the wheelbase, the more space there is inside the cabin.

It’s the space between the lowest point of the car and the ground.

  • Ground Clearance: 163

If the car has a good amount of clearance, it’s easier for it to clear big speed breakers and overall, deal with bad roads.

The total weight of the vehicle with all the standard equipment and all the required fluids.

A lightweight car will always be more efficient and easier to manoeuvre whereas a heavy car would give you a sense of solidity while driving.

The number of doors define the category of car. For example – four door means sedan, two-door means coupe while five-doors usually refer to a hatchback, MPV or an SUV.

The number of people that can be seated comfortably in the car, which has also been mandated by the car manufacturer.

  • Seating Capacity: 5

Smaller cars usually have two rows which can seat five, but some SUVs and MPVs have three rows and can seat around 7-8 passengers.

Boot space defines how practical the car is with respect to how much luggage it can carry.

  • Bootspace: 378

A boot with a large and wide opening is ideal for loading heavy items. Additionally, a lower loading height also makes it easy to put in luggage.

The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.

If a car has a large fuel tank, it can cover long distances without refuelling.

Suspensions, Brakes, Steering & Tyres

Almost all cars in India use an independent front suspension which is usually the MacPherson Strut type.

The rear suspension can either be non-independent or independent.

Most of the budget cars have non-independent suspension while the more expensive ones get independent rear suspension which offers better bump absorption.

Most of the vehicles sold in India get ventilated or non-ventilated disc brakes upfront.

- The ventilated discs are more popular thanks to them providing better stopping power and it also works well in hot conditions.

In affordable cars, drums brakes are fitted at the rear as they are cost effective.

Disc setup at the rear is now getting more popular as cars are getting faster in the real world.

The official kerb-to-kerb minimum radius a car takes to complete a 180-degree turn.

Shorter the turning radius, the lesser space you need to make a tight turn or to take a U-turn.

Almost all steering systems in cars today have an assist to help park them better at low speeds - these can be hydraulic, electro-hydraulic or electric.

The wheels used on cars are either steel rims with plastic wheel cover hub or alloy wheels on higher spec models or expensive cars.

Razor cut, or diamond cut alloy wheel design are not getting more popular. Manufacturers usually offer these in top-end trim of their car models.

Important in a country with varying quality of roads, spare wheels ensure one doesn’t get stranded when one of the main tyres gets damaged.

Select premium car models feature space savers (smaller than the stock wheels) to save on boot space.
