Earl Sweatshirt To Celebrate 10th Anniversary Of ‘Doris’ With Special One-Off Show
Earl Sweatshirt was one of the most eccentric prospects in Hip Hop during the early 2010s, and this year marks a decade since the release of his seminal studio debut.
Doris was released on August 20, 2013, to critical acclaim despite the incessant controversy surrounding Earl and his collective, Odd Future , at the time. The 15-track package features contributions from Vince Staples , Frank Ocean , Tyler, The Creator , Mac Miller and RZA , among others, and is responsible for putting Earl on the map as a solo artist.
To commemorate its legacy, the 29-year-old rapper will perform the album in its entirety for a one-off show in Los Angeles. The event, which is set to take place at the Novo on August 19, will also feature fellow Odd Future member Domo Genesis .
Pre-sale tickets go live on Wednesday (June 28), followed by general on-sale on Friday (June 30). Passes are available here .

Earl hasn’t released any new music this year and he continues to keep his public appearances to a minimum. His track record, however, has remained solid as he upholds a high standard whenever he decides to drop fresh material.
Last year, he released the 10-track project SICK! , which HipHopDX rated a 4 out of 5. The album was a continuation of his overtly abstract run that began with 2018’s Some Rap Songs .
Last year, Earl helped kick off the final season of Atlanta with a cleverly coded tribute to late rapper MF DOOM .
The season opener, which premiered on FX in September 2022, finds Paper Boi ( Bryan Tyree Henry ) going on a scavenger hunt after discovering a clue in a song by local rapper, Blue Blood, just days after learning of his death.

After following the trail of hints left behind by the fictional rapper through an Atlanta adventure, Paper Boi finds himself at Blue Blood’s funeral. Throughout the episode, Blue Blood’s music features prominently. Pitchfork confirmed that the voice fans heard while watching the show is that of Earl Sweatshirt — an MF DOOM super fan . Doris and the albums that came after subsequent albums put his infatuation with the late rapper’s style on full display.
While no direct MF DOOM references were made during the Season 4 premiere, there are quite a few parallels drawn between the two artists in life and in death.
To start, fans were left unaware of Blue Blood’s death for three months, harkening back to the December 31, 2020 revelation that DOOM had died two months prior . Upon learning of the artist’s death, Paper Boi and Darius ( Lakeith Stanfield ) reminisce about the “secret shows [Blue Blood would] only post clues about on Tumblr.”
Even the inclusion of a comic book shop as one of the stops on Paper Boi’s scavenger hunt could be seen as a tribute to MF DOOM, whose Hip Hop persona was built around the image of Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom.
Earl Sweatshirt pulled up at the GOLF store in Los Angeles on Saturday August 19, and surprised waiting fans with a meet & greet and guest DJ set. Earl celebrated the 10 year anniversary of his debut album Doris with an exclusive merch drop in partnership with GOLF and WMX .

Earl Sweatshirt to Perform Doris in Full at Los Angeles Concert
By Matthew Strauss
Earl Sweatshirt has announced a concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his major-label debut album, Doris . The show will take place at the Novo in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 19. The rapper will perform the album front-to-back for the one-night-only event. The rapper announced additional Doris shows. See the schedule below.
Earl Sweatshirt broke through with Odd Future when he was 16, releasing his debut mixtape, Earl , in March 2010. As the collective’s popularity grew, Sweatshirt quietly left the country to attend Coral Reef Academy in Samoa. At the time, Odd Future’s fans thought Sweatshirt was sent to Samoa against his will, and “free Earl” became a rallying cry at shows and online.
Sweatshirt made his triumphant return to Odd Future in 2012 when he surprisingly featured on The OF Tape, Vol. 2 ’s “ Oldie .” As the year continued, Sweatshirt guested on songs by Frank Ocean , Flying Lotus , MellowHype , and more; he launched his Tan Cressida imprint through Columbia Records; and he released his first major-label solo single, “ Chum .” Subsequent singles “ Whoa ” and “ Hive ” followed before Earl Sweatshirt released Doris on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
Since Doris , Earl Sweatshirt has shared I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside (2015), Some Rap Songs (2018), Feet of Clay (2019), and Sick! (2022). All of his projects have been issued via Tan Cressida, but the latter two have come in partnership with Warner Records after the rapper ended his deal with Columbia.

Earl Sweatshirt is a rapper who hails from Los Angeles, California, and is very much tearing it up on the hip-hop scene, being signed to Columbia Records, alongside his own label entitled, Tan Cressida. This kid does it all.
Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, who is better known as his pseudonym, Earl Sweatshirt, has had such a fruitful career up until the present, having being discovered by hip hop heavyweight, Tyler, The Creator, through MySpace. He went on to join Tyler’s rap group who go by the name “Odd Future”. Tyler took on his protégé Earl, and went on to produce his debut full-length album, which was released on March 31st 2010 as a free digital download.
Despite all of this success, his Mother, due to finding himself in trouble frequently, sent Earl to a private school in Samoa. He earned his stripes and a couple of academic years later, returned to LA, where he resumed his hip-hop career in full swing. He earned himself 50,000 followers on Twitter due to the release of a new song on his website entitled “Home”. 2012 was a big year for Earl Sweatshirt, as he was featured on the track “Super Rich Kids” from Frank Oceans’ debut album and he released his first solo single since his return from Samoa, entitled “Chum”. He also began work on his second studio album, “Doris”.
It is no surprise that Earl Sweatshirt has been nominated for the BET Hip Hop “Rookie of the Year” Award, and has made multiple TV Show appearances.
Live reviews
I think everyone has that one artist who when you start talking about them your close friends all start to roll their eyes, because they know your level of obsession with their music and once you start talking you won't stop... for me that artist is without a doubt Earl Sweatshirt. If he releases a song, is featured on one, or simply endorses another artist I am the first to know. I have seen him in concert twice now since he has been back in the states, the first time driving all the way across Virginia for the show, the second time driving about 7 hours to North Carolina, and despite the damage to my gas tank and bank account I have absolutely zero regrets. He puts on an incredible show, usually featuring at least one of his DJs Lucas or Taco, and I have never been so content to get elbowed in the face/have my feet stomped on by strangers simply because I know it was all a product of our reaction to his music. His lyrics speak to my heart and his attitude live is one that not only makes me laugh but also keeps me enthralled the entire time he is one stage. I could continue to go on an on about his poetic talent, hilarious persona, and intelligent outlook on life-but I will just leave it at if you're not with Sweatshirt yet, get that way.
Report as inappropriate
There are rap artists who you see live who perform behind a barrage of thick glasses and arrogant attitude and it feels almost like you could have watched this through a screen as there is no real atmosphere. Earl Sweatshirt is not one of these artists. Real name Thebe Neruda Kgositsile found fame in hip hop collective Odd Future alongside Frank Ocean and Tyler The Creator and through this collaboration he had a ready made fan base for his solo career.
Bounding onto stage with his hype man to the bass heavy rumblings of 'Kill', he instantly jumps to the front of the stage and encourages the audience to jump with him. Rapping his way through 'Blade' and '20 Wave Caps' he quickly has the audience in the palm of his hand. His DJ takes care of the technicalities whilst Earl focuses on what he does best, being a frontman.
Playing material mainly taken from debut album 'Doris', the audience rap along to favourites including 'Burgundy' and 'Hive' before the all-out party that is 'Orange Juice' closes a blistering live show by one of hip hop brightest showmen.
Homie and I had a blast. Earl is a true artist and good preformer. If you're going to a show be warned, a random mash pit may form at the front. Spend most of Remy's set fighting for a front row view only to end up in the danger zone. I felt bad cause I kept getting pushed into little girls and felt like they were getting hurt. But they tough. Also bring a j.Earl rolled up but didn't share lls
Absolutely life-changing. Such an emotional and powerful performance, seeing his expressions and reactions to his own songs and lyrics, he put all the songs I’ve been listening to of his for almost 6 years now into a perspective I’ve never experienced before. Na-Kel and BbyMutha were also perfect to open for such a show.
Solange was incredible and Flying Lotus in 3D was truly an experience. Earl Sweatshirt didn't show up .....! And we never got an explanation. But I wasn't even mad after the show since Solange's set was such a religious and beautiful performance.
It was better than I expected. I went to the Tyler the Creator Concert in December, and this blew it away. The DJs were excellent and the Guest Appearances were cool too. Earl Played New songs that aren't released yet and they were cool asf.
The vibe was immensely amazing. He played a good mix of stuff from Doris, IDLSIDGO, SRS & a lot of new stuff too. After his set he danced around on stage to random songs his DJ was spinning, it was an overall good time.
High energy opening acts and show. It's never heard of M.I.K.E. or Liv.E, but they were great. Earl was pretty cut and dry. He came to perform and vibe, that's all. Venue staff was friendly and attentive.
Best concert I've ever been too. It was hype bruhh . Wish Vince was there thoe. Also, the energy in there was amazing . All around good concert . Earl was the highlight of the show by far .
Remy Banks was a great opener, the concert was hype enough but earl seemed kinda bored at times. Worth going to though, if you know his songs you'll have a good time.

Earl Sweatshirt and a Fake Frank Ocean Celebrate 10 Years of ‘Doris’ in Brooklyn
With his new album, voire dire , right around the corner, earl sweatshirt came to brooklyn and celebrated an old classic: doris ..
Earl Sweatshirt shook Brooklyn to its foundations.
On Wednesday, August 23rd, Earl took his four-leg Doris Anniversary tour to Brooklyn Steel.
After an opening set from Black Noi$e — which included songs from a wide spectrum of rap legends, from MF DOOM to Rico Nasty to Z Money — Earl came out. He opened the show with the introductory piano chords of “ 523” playing in the background . Reflecting on the decade that has passed since his debut dropped, Earl stated in a confident tone: “We still alive ... it’s been 10 years.”
The all too anxious crowd, which had been properly primed and ready for the rapper, silenced shortly while the familiar “ 523” chords continued. That was followed quickly by a venue-wide uproar as the LA-based MC stepped onto stage and made his presence known before jumping into the first track of the album, “Pre .”
Throughout the show Sweatshirt kept the crowd’s hype at a teetering balance, coming to a head when playing some of his classics, such as “Burgundy” and “Chum.” Over the weekend, fans lost it at Earl’s LA leg of the tour when the rapper linked up wit h fellow OF fam Tyler, the Creator, Mike G, Domo Genesis, Vince Staples, Casey Veggies, Syd the Kid, and more for a hometown show. This reunion was topped off with a guest appearance from Tyler, the Creator who performed his verse on “Whoa.”
Other than a fake Frank Ocean appearance that would have made DOOM proud, there was no surprise appearance from fellow OF members at his Brooklyn show. But Earl pleasantly surprised the crowd with guest appearances from MIKE and long-time compatriot and fellow rapper Navy Blue, otherwise known as Sage Elsesser. A short, blistering and welcomed performance from both rappers was capped off with a short speech from Navy Blue in which he beckoned the audience to recognize the greatness of the illustrious MC stating “We shouldn’t take [Earl] for granted.. There is not that many great rappers, but he is one of them.”
After siphoning through songs from Doris , Earl jumped straight into contemporary tracks, such as “ 2010 ” from his most recent album Sick! and his most recent single “ Making the Band (Danity Kane) ” both creating high-energy mosh pits that populated the Brooklyn venue. Earl has not lost his edge or his hunger as the unique and vibrant aura of the MC filled the entire building during his performance.
Those keeping up with the rapper will have seen that the Doris Anniversary tour will end in London where he will debut his newest collab project, with The Alchemist, titled Voire Dire (literally meaning to tell the truth) . Many have speculated that this may be the “secret” album that Alchemist and Earl have worked on previously, placed under a fake name and YouTube page that fans have been searching for on the internet for almost two years now.
The two have been amazing creative partners in the past, with Earl hopping on songs like “Nobles ,”“ Loose Change,” and “E. Coli” — all individual tracks from previous projects graciously given to fans by The Alchemist. If the duo's past work is any indication of the quality of Voire Dire , we are in for a treat of excellent beat selection, production, and rhyme schemes we have become familiar with from each respective artist in their individual and collaborative works.

On Tuesday (Sept. 12), Zane Lowe unveiled a new Apple Music interview with Earl Sweatshirt , who was fresh off of a four-date tour in celebration of Doris ‘ 10th anniversary. During the sit-down, the Odd Future alum reflected on the debut album and his mindset at that time.
“I’m not going to lie. It kind of just brought back, just everything from that time. And some of the ambiguity, that’s what I think really stuck out to me,” he said. “I was 18. I was trying to figure it out. They were like, ‘You’re the big rapper , make an album.’ That’s why I think part of that album was a deliberate shot in the parachute, or in the foot… It was too big for me at the time.”
As previously reported by REVOLT , Sweatshirt teamed up with The Alchemist for the surprise album VOIR DIRE back in August, which they christened by throwing a quick-strike listening event at London’s Jazz Cafe on the day of its release. “The reason why I gravitated to Al so much is because I was privileged in not having that much experience in weird studio sessions,” the Cali star explained when asked about working with the legendary beatsmith. “I had only just come from OF, and that was that type of environment. Like, 10 rappers, highly competitive, openly competitive. I love that s**t. It was like that at Al’s, too, you know what I mean?”
Sweatshirt’s relationship with his mother, decorated UCL A School of Law professor Cheryl Harris, has been highly publicized throughout his career. “I think me and my mom have mutual appreciation sessions sometimes,” he realized. “Watching my mom process… has been, I guess, really illuminating to me, too. Just watching my mom process an adult child, or her adult child, you know what I’m saying?”

Earl Sweatshirt has always seemed like the smartest smartass in Odd Future, but for a long time, it was hard to say for sure. By the time most people heard his gory cult-classic 2010 mixtape, Earl , the teen MC had already been shipped off to Samoa; since returning from boarding-school exile in 2012, he has remained relatively elusive. That makes this, his first full-length release since becoming famous, feel like a moment of truth: Was he really that great, or was it all some kind of mass hallucination?
Actually, he’s even better. His rhyme schemes are as complex as ever, and these resolutely unpop beats – sticky-icky sample collages from producers including Pharrell, RZA and himself – are an ideal canvas. But his subject matter has undergone a drastic overhaul. Unlike some peers, Earl has figured out that shock value only goes so far. Doris ‘ themes are way less cartoonish – getting stoned, shrugging off career pressures, staring down his least-favorite feelings. On “Chum,” Earl admits to missing his estranged dad: “It’s probably been 12 years since my father left/Left me fatherless/And I just used to say ‘I hate him’ in dishonest jest.” It’s one of many moments that hit harder than the imaginary violence that got the world’s attention three years ago.
