Where there’s smoke, there’s fire—and with New Smoke Show , country artist Kimberly Dunn is ready to ignite The 11-track album, produced by Grammy Award winner Chad Carlson (Taylor Swift, Trisha Yearwood), should mark Dunn’s explosion into mainstream music, after several years of burning up the charts in her native Texas. “ Forever on the Run , my first full-length record , was a road map of where I’ve been and who I was when those songs were written. I would say the new music is definitely the direction I’m going in,” Dunn says. “It’s all about the live show and all about having fun with the audience. I want to make sure that we keep the energy up so everyone has the potential to have as much fun as possible at my show!” Her attitude is summed up in “Stand on It,” the album’s third track. “I don’t walk the line, I dance on it,” Dunn sings. “I don’t fit in a box. … I stand on it.” The album defiantly shows off all of Dunn’s various musical influences — country, pop and rock ‘n’ roll. “What I’ve learned over time that I have to be true to myself, and in being true to myself, I have to pay attention to all of the music I grew up listening to — rock ‘n’ roll, pop, classic country, bluegrass…a little bit of everything!” “In the very beginning of my career I felt like I had to stay in a more traditional country mindset. That’s what Forever on the Run is. I love it and it has a really special place in my heart. But New Smoke Show is definitely more me than I ever have been on a recording,” Dunn says. The singer-songwriter has matured from the young woman in her first smash hit “Randy Rogers” who tried to find harmony between a heart broken by an ex-boyfriend and a heart that soared to the sounds of the Texas Country songs to which he introduced her. But staying locked into one style of music didn’t completely satisfy Dunn — even at the risk of being called a sell-out. “You know what, I’m not worried. I was at the very beginning, when I thought that I had to be more traditional, ya know? I have to wear boots on stage every night, I have to wear denim,” Dunn says. “The more rules I put on myself, the more I found that it hindered my creativity. Being worried about what other people think can consume you and the whole record New Smoke Show is about being yourself and doing what you want to do. Feeling good about standing outside of the box and just having a good time with who you are and finding yourself.” “I’m on my journey of finding myself and the more I face my fears, the more I learn about myself and find new avenues of making other people happy,” she continues. “All I want to do is give back. The more successful I can be, the more I can give back to my fans.” That’s when she found Carlson, who was recommended to her by producer Rachel Loy (William Clark Green, Dolly Shine). “She was so right on,” Dunn says. “The cool thing about working with Chad is that he’s going to figure out who you are even if you don’t know what your sound is. He’s just so great at communicating a vision and he’s helped me to stay true to myself and also create a product that my audience enjoys.” Carlson helped Dunn combine such diverse influences as Def Leppard, AC/DC and Iron Maiden with Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Clay Walker and Reba McEntire all in an effort to find a unique sound. “If you listen to all of that, somewhere in the middle is Kimberly Dunn. Somewhere in the middle is me wanting both sides of that coin,” she says. “If you’re really true to yourself and what you want to be and search real deep, then you’re going to create “I like following the rules — I really do! I come from the Girl Scouts world where if you don’t follow the rules, you’re in trouble. But in music, you have to throw the rulebook out the window. If all else fails, at least it’s going to create something unique!” To build New Smoke Show , Carlson helped her find tracks written by top songwriters, and Dunn also took pen in hand to work with cowriters Phillip White on “Lonestar” and Carlson on a trio of songs — “Until We Never Meet Again,” “You Belong with Her” and “Roots Run Deep.” Making music isn’t about dreams of stardom, she says. “There’s so much more than that. That’s a very paper-thin want, and it’s also a selfish want, and I’ve had to have some inner-demon battles with myself, like, why would you want that?” she confesses. “I think it comes from growing up without a lot of money and wanting to have more money, and that’s OK, but I’ve been reading a lot and doing a lot of soul-searching, and people are not for money — money is for people. If I can make somebody smile at the end of a hard day, then I’ve done my job.” “As I’ve grown up and figured out what kind of person I am, I’m not as concerned about making a ton of money anymore. What I’m concerned about is making a positive impact in the world!” To that end, Dunn founded her own nonprofit organization, the Dunn Good Foundation, which in six years has supported an array of different causes, from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to the Brighter Days Horse Refuge, several Hurricane Relief Benefits and more — all with hands-on involvement from the singer herself. The foundation is a reflection of Dunn’s upbringing. Her mother, Katy, set an example of giving back to others, and Dunn says she doesn’t feel complete unless she is giving her time and energy to make a difference in the world. She also hopes to bring her fans further into her band’s world via a new series of YouTube videos, Originally Dunn . “I want to show them the behind-the-scenes life of the band — who we are and how hard my band and my team work,” Dunn says. “There are so many steps to get the show on stage across the country. It all comes with hard work and dedication.” Fans see the less-than-glamorous side of life on the road, including the time the seven-member team crammed into their faithful van to camp for four nights in a row in Bozeman, Montana. “Seven people in that tiny van, and we couldn’t be happier!” Dunn says. ‍ But above all else, Dunn is thrilled that New Smoke Show will translate into even more high-energy stage performances for the fans. “I feel so much more comfortable on stage with the new album material in the set alongside our favorites from Forever on the Run . The show is more fun than ever and the more comfortable the band and I are on stage, the more fun it is for the audience,” she says. “The cool thing is we can only go up from here!” ‍ Sounds like The New Smoke Show is heating up and we can wait to watch her light it up on tour this year!

The first thing that gets you about country singer Kimberly Dunn is her friendly and spunky personality. Then, when she starts strumming her guitar and singing in a country voice both tender and powerful, you're hooked.

That's what happened to Scott Willson and Will Harrison of Up and Out Artists in November 2010. The managers met San Antonio native Dunn backstage at a Battle of the Bands contest at  Texas A&M , where Dunn was a senior.

"We had a great talk about music," says Dunn, who had played alto sax in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, but longed for a career singing her own songs. Harrison remembers thinking that "if her music has as much charisma as she does personally, she'll really have something."

The only solo acoustic contestant out of 30 acts in the Battle, Dunn walked onstage with confidence, kicked off her high heels with a laugh and started into a guitar riff, as she stomped out a rhythm on the stage's hollow floor. It was only her fourth live performance as a singer-songwriter (the first three were the preliminary rounds) and yet Dunn had an instant hold on the audience. She ended up winning the contest.

"We knew from the first downbeat that we wanted to get involved with Kimberly," says Harrison, who also works as an engineer at Ray Benson's Bismeaux Recording Studio in Austin. Dunn recorded her debut EP, One Foot Over The Other, at Bismeaux, with Harrison producing.

Everything seems to be happening fast, but it's going according to a plan Dunn conceived while attending Northside Health Careers High School, a magnet school in San Antonio. Dunn wanted to be a veterinarian at a young age, but after seeing Eric Johnson in concert when she was 13, and buying a guitar the next day, she switched her long-term goal to a music career.

"I decided that I would concentrate on graduating from A&M where her parents and two sisters also attended, and then I would spend the next years pursuing music full time." Dunn graduated August 14, her 23rd birthday, with a degree in agricultural leadership and a minor in music, and is ready to make her mark on Texas Country.

Her calling card to the male-dominated scene, which some call "red dirt music," is a bittersweet yet feisty song about the healing powers of music called  "Randy Rogers."  In it, Dunn looks back on a romance gone sour and recalls the music of that once-blissful time. Besides Rogers, others mentioned in the catchy chorus include  Eli Young Band ,  Granger Smith  and  Stoney LaRue .

"I wrote that song about some of the Texas Country artists I had come to love during a certain time in my life and to be able to meet them and play shows with some of them just blows me away," she says.

Dunn has opened shows for Smith, as well as  Kyle Park  and  Aaron Watson . She also guests with Wichita Falls singer Johnny Cooper  on his next single "Movin' On," soon to be released to Texas Country charts.

"When you think about how far Kimberly has come in just a year from her first gig, you realize that, yes, musical talent has a lot to do with it," says Willson. "But it's also because Kimberly is so much fun, such a force of nature. People want to be around her."

But Dunn seeks complete seclusion when she writes songs. "I like to have my time with my songs before I give them to everybody else," she says. Building her material on the melody, she sometimes starts off on harmonica and moves to mandolin. She'll record her ideas on her iPhone but won't play them for anyone until she feels that they're complete. "I've always been that way with songwriting," she says. "I have to develop the songs on my own."

During her earliest performances, she was billed by the name Kimberly Sue, but she dropped the Sue when her songs and performing style started drawing comparisons to fellow Texas Country singer Sunny Sweeney.

She had thought about calling herself Kimberly Sparrow but saw a possible problem. "I'm a huge fan of Sheryl Crow," she says with a laugh at what she's about to say next. "I had a fantasy of one day performing a duet with her, and if Kimberly Sparrow and Sheryl Crow sang together, there'd be some bird jokes for sure."

Dunn is a family name from her mother's side. "One day I saw a sign for Dunn Road." Young, spunky, bold, ready. Kimberly Dunn. Sounds just about right.

Kimberly Dunn

Kimberly Dunn’s debut full-length album, Forever on the Run , was truly a group effort. Without her generous fans, it might never have happened.

“It’s been a long time coming. It’s taken me about three years to totally finish it,” she told Billboard . “It was 100 percent funded by my fans from three Kickstarter campaigns that I did. The opportunity to be able to sell it for what people wanted to pay for it was my plan. I wanted to simply get the music in front of as many people as possible. It’s been an incredible road in getting to that point. I’m really excited to see what comes out of it.”

When asked if she viewed utilizing the funding of her fans via Kickstarter as more or less pressure, she didn’t hesitate, as she definitely wants her investors to be happy.

Executive Turntable: BMG Staple Exiting; SiriusXM Veteran Signing Off; Island Def Jamming With New…

“I would say that there is more pressure. I definitely want to put out a product that they are proud of. In the very beginning, they put their faith in me and my acoustic videos and shows before I even had a full band. None of us really knew what it was going to be until it was what it was. We raised $5,000 more for the full-length album than the EPs, and we did it in record time, so they were excited about hearing it. So we must be doing something right, if they wanted more. It’s just exciting to see what we are putting out is being taken well at our shows, and also with the radio support we’ve been getting — not just here in Texas, but also Oklahoma and Kansas, as well as overseas in countries such as Belgium and France, where we have gotten airplay.”

Trending on Billboard

The current focus track from Forever on the Run is “Trashy Side,” for which she has shot a video. She says she has always managed to take her musical influence from a wide variety of artists and styles.

“I grew up listening to 104.5 in San Antonio, which was the classic rock radio station, I listened to a lot of AC/DC , Guns N’ Roses , Led Zeppelin and that kind of stuff. My parents were very versatile and also loved a lot of country and bluegrass like Clint Black and Alison Krauss . Then, in my teenage years, I remember becoming really influenced by Nickel Creek and Chris Thile . It’s so funny, because now these days, country music is kind of a mold of everything — a little bit of rock, a little bit of pop and a little bit of bluegrass. That’s what I’ve wanted to do all my life.”

Charity work is something that is very special to the stunning songstress. She has been a part of the lineup for Granger Smith ‘s “Boot Walk” event since 2013, and she even has a nonprofit foundation of her own. “It’s called the Dunn Good Foundation. Every month, we do a ‘Dunn Good Deed’ of the month. I just ran the Austin half-marathon in support of a group called Dogs Out Loud. They are a group that helps really gigantic dogs that are harder to be adopted. They put them through therapy so they are more adoptable. Having a few big dogs myself, I have a huge spot in my heart for them.” Dunn, a former Girl Scout, will also be giving of her time for a couple of camp workshops for the organization later this summer.

Dunn is also very proud of the songwriting process on the album. Two of the songs, “Dream Girl” and “Randy Rogers,” came from a similar place despite their difference of tempo. She had written them about a former boyfriend, who has shown up in the merchandise line before and has sent his friends to shows to see her.

“Back at the very beginning, he came to one of the acoustic shows. His parents have come to multiple shows. He still lives in Colorado, and we just were at Steamboat Music Fest. He just had a daughter, and he’s been busy with that. But when I was in Steamboat, one of his friends came to me at one of my shows and said, ‘Hey, you don’t know me, but I know someone that you wrote a song about.’ I asked who, and he said, ‘Tim,’ and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s neat. How’s he doing? I haven’t heard his name in forever.’ He updated me and told me that Tim had told him I was going to be playing. I thought, ‘Wow, he keeps up with me. That’s cool.’ It’s just great that I’ve gotten to this point, and I’ve gotten to the point that he said I should be at, and I’ve gotten further than that already. It just brings a smile to my face thinking about it,” she says with a grin, implying that sometimes the songwriter gets the last laugh.

Explosions occurred in Moscow region, several settlements lost power

E xplosions were heard in the town of Lytkarino, Moscow region, tonight, November 23. Several settlements in the Moscow region are without power, according to Baza.

Around 1 a.m., local residents allegedly heard a bright flash from the substation. Afterward, the lights went out in the Lytkarivsky district. A fire reportedly broke out at the site of the explosion.

According to Russian media, power was lost in several settlements in the Moscow region.

It should be noted that Lytkarino is situated 30 kilometers from the Russian capital.

Shots fired in Russia

In 2023, the number of attacks in a number of regions of the Russian Federation by attack drones increased. Also, something often burns and explodes on the territory of Russia. Different regions, including Moscow, are under attack.

At the same time, Ukrainian intelligence has already warned residents of the Russian capital that they should hardly relax, as the number of drone attacks will only increase.

In particular, on the evening of November 10, explosions occurred near the Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering corporation in the Moscow region, where Kinzhals and Iskandars are manufactured.

One of the largest attacks took place on the night of July 30, when unidentified drones struck the business center of the Russian capital, Moscow City. The drones hit the so-called "government tower," which houses the offices of the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Ministry of Communications.

Brigadier General Sergei Baranov recently said that Ukrainian troops are preparing for a large-scale winter attack on various regions of Russia with the help of kamikaze drones.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
