2023 Tour of Flanders: Preview, schedule, how to watch both men's and women's classic races live

Mathieu van der Poel is favourite to defend his title at the iconic one-day men's classic race on the Belgian cobbles, while Annemiek van Vleuten chases a third women's crown in her final season.

The second road cycling one-day classic monument of the 2023 season is here.

On Sunday (2 April), the  Tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen; Tour des Flandres) will celebrate its 107th men's and 20th women's editions as the first of two back-to-back cobbled monuments (Paris–Roubaix follows next week).

Men have raced 'De Ronde' annually uninterrupted since 1919. This year, for the first time since 2016, the race begins in Bruges/Brugge – the first year of an agreement that will see Bruges/Brugge and Antwerp alternate start-line duties. The race will end in Oudenaarde, as it has done every year since 2012, after 273.4km (169.9mi).

The women, meanwhile, face a 156.6km (97.3mi) course set around Oudenaarde but also encompassing swathes of the men's route.

Mathieu van der Poel of the Netherlands and Belgium's own  Lotte Kopecky are the respective defending champions. Van der Poel is looking for his third title in four races, having also triumphed in 2020.

2023 tour of flanders course routes.

Welcome back to Bruges/Brugge. That's the main headline from this year's men's Ronde van Vlaanderen course , as the race returns to the same UNESCO World Heritage Site start town it had from 1998 through 2016.

The Grote Markt in Bruges/Brugge is where the peloton will start from; the change in start city from Antwerp means the route south to Oudenaard is also changing.

While the daunting Oude Kwaremont – Paterberg finale will still take pride of place, the course for the first 136km (84.5 miles) to the first ascent of the Oude Kwaremont looks a little less heavy on the legs compared to last year, with only a single cobbled sector (down from two) at Huisepontweg and a generally flatter parcours, albeit with an additional côte.

However, the traditional loop around Oudenaard will again test the riders, with 18 climbs from the first ascent of the Oude Kwaremont to the finish. Once more, the Paterberg is the last climb of the day with 13 km to go before a fast, flat finish. Across the day's 19 classified hills, the riders will climb 3,227m (10,587ft).

The women will ride a course very similar to the ones they are used to – a loop around Oudenaard, beginning at the Markt and ending on Minderbroedersstraat as the men do.

As with the men's race, Huisepontweg at 49.6km is the first cobbled sector; unlike the men, the women's peloton will already have had to climb their first test – the Tiegemberg.

Twelve further climbs await the women, who will face the same final 45km as the men, starting with the notoriously difficult cobbled climb up the Kopperberg (113.4km) and concluding with the Oude Kwaremont – Paterberg one-two to finish. A total elevation gain of 2,682m (8,799ft) awaits the peloton.

2023 Tour of Flanders riders to watch

Men's race - 2023 riders to watch.

  • Mathieu van der Poel – the defending champion from the Netherlands. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider also triumphed in 2020 and was beaten into second place in 2021. He will aim for a fourth straight podium finish on the back of winning Milano-Sanremo two weeks ago.
  • Tadej Pogacar – the all-round phenomenon from Slovenia is looking for his fourth career monument win (2 at Il Lombardia, 1 at Liège-Bastogne-Liège). This is just his second appearance in De Ronde, having finished agonisingly off the podium in fourth last year.
  • Kasper Asgreen – the Dane was the surprise winner in 2021, knocking van der Poel into second place. His Soudal–Quick Step team can also count on…
  • Julian Alaphilippe – the two-time road race world champion, who looked set to challenge for the 2020 race before crashing into a motorcycle while in the winning breakaway.
  • Wout van Aert – Jumbo-Visma's leader in Flanders, who was forced to miss last year's race after catching Covid. Widely considered the biggest rival to Van der Poel, Van Aert will be hoping to upgrade his 2020 second place to the top step of the podium. Enters off the back of a second place at Gent-Wevelgem.
  • Greg van Avermaet – even aged 37, don't rule out the Belgian on his home roads. The 2016 Olympic road race champion is a specialist in the one-day classics, and has finished on the podium in Oudenaarde four times without ever winning the race.
  • Tom Pidcock – the Briton is, like Van der Poel and Van Aert, used to riding on different terrain as a cyclo-cross, mountain bike, and road rider. Pidcock claimed his first major one-day win earlier this year at Strade Bianche and has experience of winning on cobbles, triumphing in the 2021 Brabantse Pijl and 2019 Paris–Roubaix Espoirs junior race.

Women's race - 2023 riders to watch

  • Annemiek van Vleuten – the Dutch women's cycling legend has announced that 2023 will be her final season. A two-time winner of the women's Tour of Flanders (2011, 2021), Van Vleuten is no stranger to success in all forms of road cycling, from long stage races to one-day classics, and will hope to sign off from Oudenaarde with a third victory.
  • Lotte Kopecky – defending champion from 2022, Kopecky will have the home support behind her. A two-time national road race champion, she already has a pair of one-day classic race wins under her belt this season and will be one of the favourites for a third.
  • Marianne Vos – the London 2012 Olympic road race champion hasn't won in a one-day race since Gent-Wevelgem in 2021, but count Vos out at your peril. The vastly experienced Dutchwoman is still a force to be reckoned with on her day.
  • Elisa Longo Borghini – the Trek-Segafredo team leader, who won bronze in the last two Olympic road races, is a previous winner of the event (2015) and will be supported by fellow Italian and 2021 world champion Elisa Balsamo.

Tour of Flanders: Mathieu van der Poel smashes Monument with massive solo victory

As it happened: Mathieu van der Poel makes history with record-equalling Flanders win

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) took an astounding solo victory at the Tour of Flanders 2024 when he rode away from the field with 45km remaining to stretch out to a winning margin of 1:02.

Behind him, a two-man breakaway of Alberto Bettiol (EF Education–EasyPost) and Dylan Teuns (Israel-Premier Tech) was caught on the finish line by a chase group from which Luca Mozzato (Arkéa - B&B Hotels) sprinted to second place and Michael Matthews (Jayco-AlUla) took third.

Matthews was later relegated for dangerous sprinting, allegedly deviating from his line to not allow Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates) to pass him, meaning that fourth-place finisher Pollit moved onto the podium.

Van der Poel was in a league of his own when he attacked on the Koppenberg ascent, with only Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) able to keep any semblance of pace with the World Champion. However, with 40km remaining, Van der Pel moved to a margin of over 30 seconds and was squeezing seconds out of Jorgenson every kilometre.

By the ascent of the Kwaremont, Van der Poel had extended his margin over Jorgenson, Pedersen, and the growing chase group, leaving the remaining 37km an informal victory procession.

When is the Tour de France 2024? How to watch and the latest odds with Tadej Pogacar the bookies' favourite

W ith five weeks to go until the 2024 Tour de France , Tadej Pogacar is the bookies’ favourite to win the yellow jersey — having won the Giro d’Italia emphatically.

The Slovenian is looking to add to his 2020 and 2021 Tour titles, which will be easier if rival Jonas Vingegaard fails to recover from crash injuries sustained in the Itzulia Basque Country tour earlier this year.

Danish rider Vingegaard, the 2022 and 2023 Tour winner, is facing a race against time to be fit and is not on the start list for next week's Critérium du Dauphiné — a warm-up race.

Other yellow jersey contenders Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič, who also both crashed on the Basque tour, have recovered to make the Critérium .

It could make for an interesting 111th edition of the race with or without its biggest names when the racing gets under way next month.

Here is all you need to know about the 2024 Tour de France.

When is the Tour de France 2024?

The Tour will begin with a hilly stage from Florence to Rimini in Italy on Saturday, June 29.

From there, riders will race for 21 days and have two rest days, culminating in a time trial in Nice on Sunday, July 21.

What is the route for the Tour?

After the four days in Italy, the Tour will cross the border to Valloire France on Tuesday, July 2 — the first high mountain stage.

It is the first time the race has had its Grand Depart in Italy. In another first, the riders will cross into San Marino on an early stage.

The Tour will finish outside Paris for the first time as the French capital is preparing to host the Olympic Games and the Paralympics this summer.

The final stage in Nice will be a time trial, meaning the general classification order will go down to the last day.

While usually the last day is something of a ceremony before a sprint, in 2024 it will be the second of two long time trials.

The tough route will take in summit finishes in the French Alps, featured earlier than usual, Massif Central and the Pyrenees. Stage nine will also feature 32 kilometres (20 miles) of gravel roads.

The severity of the stages and lack of flat finishes is bad news for sprinters including Britain's Mark Cavendish — who is seeking a record-breaking 35th Tour stage win.

Eight stages identified as ‘flat’ could give sprinters such as Cavendish reasons to hope — but only if they can stay in the race over the mountains and make time cuts.

The Manx rider told the Guardian : “There’s a few [sprint stages] but you’ve got to get to them — that’s the problem.

“It’s so hard. I’m in a bit of shock, actually.”

How can I watch the Tour de France?

ITV 4 and ITV X will be showing the Tour de France live from June 29 to July 21 with highlights shows every evening — usually at 7pm.

In previous years, the shows have been presented by Gary Imlach with input and commentary from David Millar and Ned Boulting.

ITV will also broadcast Critérium du Dauphiné highlights from June 4 to 11.

Who are the bookmakers’ favourites for the 2024 Tour de France?

Bookmakers are in an unusual position and taking bets on a race scenario with and without defending champion Jonas Vingegaard taking part.

Oddschecker does not have the option of betting on the Dane winning the yellow jersey.

However, the odds of other contenders do shorten if he does not make the start line.

The full list of riders will be confirmed nearer the start of the race.

These are the Oddschecker odds as of May 30 .

Tadej Pogacar: Odds to win with Vingegaard in race (4/11) without Vingegaard (1/2)

The Slovenian is in red-hot form and could add to his two yellow jerseys.

Primož Roglič: Both with and without Vingegaard (9/2)

Another Slovenian who has won the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana in the past but never the Tour de France, despite coming second in 2020.

Remco Evenepoel: With and without Vingegaard (10/1)

The Belgian has previously won the Giro and is an all-rounder.

Juan Ayuso: With and without Vingegaard (16/1)

The Spanish youngster is a teammate of Pogacar at UAE Team Emirates and could step up should misfortune strike the Slovenian but is otherwise on domestique duty.

2024 RBC Canadian Open TV schedule, live stream, where to watch, tee times, channel, radio, golf coverage

The canadian open takes center stage this week hoping to follow the fireworks of last year's tournament.

rbc-canadian-open-new-flag-g.png

The 2024 RBC Canadian Open looks a little different this year as the tournament returns to Hamilton Golf & Country Club for the first time since 2019 and seventh time in event history. Five years ago, it was Rory McIlroy who blitzed the field by seven for the first of his two Canadian Open titles, but last year, it was Nick Taylor who became a local hero.

Beating Tommy Fleetwood with a 72-foot eagle putt on the third playoff hole, Taylor became the first Canadian in 69 years to claim his home country's open. Taylor immediately vaulted himself into legend status with the win and ensuing celebration -- so much so that his silhouette is now part of the tournament logo.

Canadians will hope to break another drought this week as countrymen have not won the Canadian Open in back-to-back years since 1913-14. The field is littered with those representing the maple leaf Mackenzie Hughes appearing to be the most likely to off the feat. He will have to chase down 54-hole leader Robert MacIntyre with Fleetwood among a chasing pack.

Madonna has been hit with another lawsuit just after wrapping her Celebration Tour earlier this month.

Concertgoer Justen Lipeles is suing the 65-year-old singer, along with Live Nation and four California concert venues, according to court documents filed Wednesday in Los Angeles and obtained by ET. Lipeles is alleging that Madonna subjected audiences to "pornography without warning," such as "topless women on stage simulating sex acts" in an uncomfortable, sweltering environment. He also claims that she demanded the air conditioning be turned off and he became physically ill in the heat.

Additionally, Lipeles claims that Madonna lip-synced her performance and that it began after 10 p.m., more than an hour after the advertised 8:30 p.m. start time. This after Madonna was  previously sued over an alleged late start for her show in Brooklyn, New York, earlier this year.

Lipeles is claiming negligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false advertising, and breach of written contract during Madonna's Kia Forum stop in Los Angeles, California, on March 7.

In addition to Madonna and Live Nation, Forum Entertainment, Kia Forum, Acrisure Arena, the Golden 1 Center and Chase Center were also named as defendants since Lipeles claims that all of the performer's California concerts began late.

A representative for Madonna could not be reached for comment. Acrisure Arena also told ET that they have "no comment at this time."

In a statement to ET, Lipeles' attorneys at Lipeles Law Group said that the plaintiff had brought his 11-year-old sister to the concert.

"Imagine taking your 11-year-old daughter to a pop concert," the statement read. "When in the middle of the concert, the women on stage remove their tops and are completely topless. They then begin to act out sexual situations including cunnilingus, and digital penetration amongst other pornographic type situations. This is with absolutely no warning to anyone who is offended by this type of content, and especially those who bring children to the concert."

The statement continued,  "Justen brought his 11-year-old sister, who was shocked. Additionally, for many hours everyone was forced to sit in what felt like a sauna. This was no accident, Madonna insisted that the AC stay off and when people in the crowd complained, she said she is not turning the AC on and if they didn't like it, they should take their clothes off.  People were physically in discomfort and sweating like crazy. In other words, people paid thousands of dollars to sit and suffer while watching live porn, including kids, with no warning."

Lipeles' attorneys also noted that they are "in the process of slightly amending the complaint."

While this is not the first time Madonna has been accused of a late start , her lawyers, Live Nation and Barclays Center have previously said that it is not "reasonable" for concertgoers to predict anticipated show start and end times regardless of what is printed on the event tickets.

"Reasonable concert goers also know that concert lengths vary based on numerous factors," they stated in a previously-filed document in response to a separate complaint in New York.

Madonna, 65, kicked off her Celebration Tour in October 2023 amid delays as she recovered from a near-fatal viral infection .

She recently took her final bow on May 4 in historic fashion as she  broke the record for the largest audience  for a standalone concert by any artist at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Madonna's free show was attended by 1.6 million fans.

The final podium of the 2023 Tour de France on the Champs-Elysées in Paris

The wait is nearly over for the biggest bike race of the year, the Tour de France 2024 . Like us, you'll probably be wanting to tune in and watch, so we've put together a comprehensive guide to exactly how you can watch everything from live coverage to highlights of this iconic Grand Tour.

It should be an exciting battle for overall victory, with four potential winners all vying for the maillot jaune. Reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease A Bike), Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) and Primož Roglič (Bora-Hansgrohe) are the men most likely, although newly-anointed Giro d'Italia champion Pogačar is the only rider to have come through the early season unscathed. The other three have missed training time after tangling with each other in the same crash in Itzulia Basque Country in April.

Vingegaard was the worst affected , and in early June there was still a question mark over whether he would definitely be at the Tour de France.

There are plenty of sprinting opportunities scattered throughout the race. Last year's green jersey Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) will be the man to beat, pushed hard others including Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and Fabio Jakobsen (dsm-firmenich-PostNL). Many eyes will also be on Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), who returns for his last Tour de France in the hope of finally beating the all-time 35-stage-win record that he is currently tied on with Eddy Merckx.

The final stage sees the race make way for the Paris Olympic Games and finish outside the capital for the first time in history, with a time trial from Monaco to Nice.

When is the Tour de France?

The Tour de France will begin in Florence on June 29, and finish three weeks later on July 21 in Nice. Individual stages will be broadcast in full on Discovery+ .

Everything You Need to Know About the 2024 Unbound Gravel 200

With an international roster of champions, this edition of Unbound will take riders back to the infamous North course, promising an epic battle this Saturday, June 1st.

2021 garmin unbound gravel race

Life Time UNBOUND Gravel 200 is a 200-mile-long ultra-endurance cycling challenge held on the gravel roads of the Flint Hills region of east-central Kansas. The 2024 edition is scheduled to take place this Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Downtown Emporia.

How to Watch the 2024 UNBOUND Gravel 200

What happened last year, riders to watch, riders reflect on unbound’s evolution and anticipate the unknown, unbound gravel history.

This now-legendary race started back in 2006 with just 34 riders (18 finishers) and only one distance: 200 miles. Now, the first weekend in June consists of five distances—everything from 25 miles to 350— and more than 5,000 people riding.

Unbound Gravel 200 Past Winners 2023: Keegan Swenson and Carolin Schiff 2022: Ivar Slik and Sofia Gomez Villafañe 2021: Ian Boswell and Lauren De Crescenzo 2020: N/A (race canceled) 2019: Colin Strickland and Amity Rockwell

Before 2020, the race was known as the Dirty Kanza 200, a name that was considered offensive to Indigenous peoples, specifically the Kaw Nation. After a petition, scrutiny over the event’s name, and the firing of a race co-founder for a racist comment, organizers consulted with the Kaw Nation and renamed the race to show respect for the land’s history.

The 200-mile route, unveiled last week, includes a taxing loop north of Emporia, which was last used in the 2021 edition and adds a significant amount of elevation to the course (2,750 feet). The 25, 50, 100-mile, and XL (350-mile) contests also feature new sections. The main course compromises a total of 202.9 miles (327 km) with 11,850 feet (3,600 m) of elevation gain across 92% of gravel surface.

The elite riders will depart from downtown Emporia and head into the heart of Wabaunsee and Morris Counties. The route includes two official checkpoints where support crews can assist riders. Additionally, there will be two neutral water oasis stops along the way, providing hydration without the presence of support crews. Competitors will need to strategically manage their supplies and equipment, as only water will be available at the oasis points.

The 203-mile course promises a rugged race with its single-loop format across the Flint Hills. It is mostly made of gravel and dirt roads, which are minimally maintained. Riders should be ready for all conditions, as these roads can transform into treacherous mud paths in bad weather.

Subscribe to Life Time’s YouTube channel to be the first to see full extended highlights within 48 hours of the conclusion of each race. You can also follow along in their Instagram stories at @lifetimegrandprix for LIVE men’s coverage and @UnboundGravel for LIVE women’s coverage. The race starts at 7:30 am EDT.

keegan swenson 2023 unbound 200

The 2023 Unbound Gravel was marked by a record turnout and challenging conditions that led to a significant number of riders not finishing. Keegan Swenson (Santa Cruz) and Carolin Schiff (Canyon) won the 200-mile pro race. The edition was notable for its separate starts for elite men and women, the banning of aero bars for elite riders, and a mix of weather that included rain, heat, and humidity, testing all participants throughout the lengthy course. The race saw intense competition, with muddy sections forcing riders to dismount and run with their bikes while the leaders powered through the changing conditions to secure their wins.

Elite riders from across the globe, including countries such as Australia, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France, Uganda, and Norway, are converging to compete in the Unbound Gravel 200. The full start lists have been announced, and both the elite women’s and men’s fields are packed with heavy hitters. Unbound first announced its elite race category a few years ago, and it has now grown to 200 riders, including 70 from the Life Time Grand Prix series, now in its third year.

The roster features the women champions from the last four editions: Carolin Schiff (Canyon) from Germany, Sofia Gomez Villafañe (Specialized Off-Road) from Argentina, Lauren De Crescenzo (Factor), and Amity Rockwell (Pas Normal), both from the USA, all aiming to reclaim their titles. Sarah Sturm (Specialized Off-Road) from the USA is also among the competitors, setting the stage for a highly anticipated race.

In the men’s category, past winners Keegan Swenson (Santa Cruz) from the USA, Ivar Slik (Wilier Triestina Factory Racing) from the Netherlands, and Ian Boswell (Wahoo-Specialized) from the USA are returning, ready to take on formidable challengers such as the 2024 Cape Epic winner Matt Beers from South Africa.

Former Olympic gold medalist, two-time Tour de France stage winner, and Paris-Roubaix champion Greg van Avermaet (Last Dance) will make his debut appearance at Unbound alongside fellow Belgians Niki Terpstra (Felt), a former winner of both Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, and Tour de France stage winner, Jan Bakelants (Pearl Izumi).

We’ll also be watching WorldTour fan favorite Matej Mohorič, the Slovenian pro currently riding for Bahrain Victorious, and Laurens Ten Dam (LSRF), who will be looking for a podium spot after two consecutive fourth-place finishes.

Mohorič said on social media that Unbound will be a “completely new experience” and that he’ll take it on “with big respect.”

As the dust settles on the starting line of this year’s Unbound Gravel, seasoned competitors and fresh faces alike share their thoughts on the race’s transformation and the unpredictable challenges that lie ahead. With the event's history of relentless conditions and fierce competition, riders reflect on their past experiences and set their sights on the new trials that await them in Kansas.

“Even those of us that have just done Unbound for the past five years or so have seen the front of the race go through incredible transformation. In some ways, I have to chuckle about the memories I have from 2018 or 2019 and how simple times seemed back then,” Payson McElveen, who currently sits in 6th place in the men’s Lifetime Grand Prix, told Bicycling.

McElveen said he appreciates the evolution of the race , “I know some folks lament how mainstream, aggressive, and serious the front of this race has gotten in the last couple of years, but personally, I am so thrilled by the opportunity. I grew up watching professional road racing and love following the World Tour very closely. That was never my path, but the childhood fan in me thinks it's so cool and special that, in some ways, I'm getting a taste of racing at that level anyway... just in a way I didn't quite expect.”

Sofia Gomez Villafañe , who won the 200-mile race in 2022 and is currently in first place in the women’s Lifetime Grand Prix, told Bicycling , “I honestly have no idea what to expect from this year's Unbound 200. It will be the first time that I am racing the north course, so that adds a new element of unknown to the majority of the field. There are only a handful of women who are racing in the event this year that also raced in 2021.

“This is my third Unbound and you would think I would have some sort of insight on how the race plays out, but each year the conditions have been different. Also, in 2022, we had a mass start, but in 2023, there was a small buffer between the elite women and the elite men. This year, there’s an even bigger buffer between the elite men and the amateurs.”

Villafañe also said the weather will play a role once again. “There seems to be a storm building, so it will be interesting to see how that weather develops and how those unmaintained roads handle the moisture.”

Hannah Otto , who is currently in third place in the women’s Lifetime Grand Prix, told Bicycling that this will be her first ever Unbound. “It’s not too often at this point in my career that I get to call myself a ‘rookie,’ so I’m wearing that badge proudly this weekend! It’s my goal to enter into this race with limited expectations and I’m hoping that will make me adaptable. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.”
