There are no words for how incredible this tour was. I had high expectations and a lot of excitement for this trip and I was nervous I was setting myself up for disappointment, but no such thing. Richard reached out several times ahead of the trip to help us prep and ensure we had what we needed. When we arrived, the tour accomodated our arrival time to Uganda. We had an incredible experience at every park. Veronica was an amazing guide sharing her love of Uganda and passion in what she does. Sam, our driver, he kept us safe and entertained especially on those long drives. We saw everything we were hoping to and more and were able to experience some of the culture. The accommodations were great and the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this tour and this tour company more. We were told that Mukisa means blessing, and that they were. Thank you for making a memory to never forget.

Epic trip. Had to take one shot at an African Safari incase can’t go again. After lot of research chose Uganda because that is the only place where in addition to the big 5 you can do mountain gorilla trekking. Saw huge number of elephants on land and water, hippos in huge colonies and even 3 grazing at night in our resort grounds. Saw leopard climbing down tree as well as pride of lions in close proximity. Saw a number of white rhinos giraffes huge herds of water buffalos, Nile crocodiles in addition to multitude of birds. The chimpanzee trek was a good preparation for the ultimate gorilla trek in biwindi impenetrable forest. The people of Uganda are very very courteous and polite. Our tour guide Bosco and driver Vince tried hard to make the trip memorable and were very attentive to our needs. Strongly recommend .

Everything from start to finish was great. I first reached out to Bosco, the owner on WhatsApp and he was very helpful in answering all my questions and reassured me about the trip. Bosco was also our guide and driver for my 14-day safari. He was a fun, informative guide and driver. Bosco did a great job of selecting comfortable accommodations and food even though it was a budget trip. I got to see elephants, giraffes, lions, chimps, gorillas, and many more! Also, I got to experience some local culture as well, eating local foods and seeing how locals make a living. I felt like I really got my moneys worth on this trip going through a local operator. Bosco was very accommodating stopping for breaks, photos, shopping, atms, etc. I highly recommend anyone going to Uganda choose Enchanted Uganda Safari and Bosco.

The primates were the highlight but enjoyed all aspects of this trip.

Peter has been a considerate, kind and attentive host. Places of visit, lodges and food have all been selected with a care and utmost consideration. This has been one of my best solo adventures and I have felt safe throughout. Highly recommended tour operator and Uganda is a beautiful country.

We did get to see everything on the tour. We just wished the itenerary was more clear, driving took up 3 of our 7 days. It’s way too long to be sitting in cars for entire days. Also the car had not been maintained enough as it broke down. Plus we ran out of gas. Next was the mid-range level of hotels. We stayed at 4 hotels two which were pretty nice but the other two were quite dismal. The food was ok. Was all included but all similar food which we thought was Uganda way? Our last night we went on our own to a nice restaurant around the corner and the food was fantastic. So then I think our tour just cheaper out on food. Breakfasts at the hotels were lovely. The gorillas were amazing the absolute main feature CB of the tour

Fantastic countries; Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya, Incredible vehicle driver and cook, amazing travel partners, but the best was the animals; Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Leopards and so many more. I loved Uganda so much I need to go back, we had two leopard sightings, unbelievable. The campsite were good but the food was fantastic, I might have gained weight in this trip. I highly recommend this trip.

I recently reserved a spot on Tourilla Tours' "Friends of the Silverback" tour with gorilla trekking for May 2023. Twairu, our tour guide, was fantastic, and Tourilla Tours provided outstanding support. Twairu's enthusiasm for and expertise in gorillas and their environment were absolutely astounding. His excitement enhanced the experience, and he offered useful information all along the tour. Outstanding professionalism and organization were displayed by Tourilla Tours. They handled every little thing, from transportation to obtaining permissions, making the process easy. It was magnificent to hike with the gorillas. We got the honor of seeing these amazing creatures up close and in their native habitat, which was a great experience. The Gorilla Experience was amazing, but the overall trip was quite poorly planned. It resulted in us travelling on the bus for8-10 hours a day, often arriving at the camp site only an hour before it was dark. If I had known that this was going to be the case, I would have just flown to Uganda and gone straight to the Gorilla Park! Also our guide was not very good- very little information was given so I felt quite disconnected from the countries.

The tour was good but a lot of space for improvement . Lunch menu could be reviewed. Some times the Facilities in the camping sites were not working no flash or no hot water . Long driving hours , some times longer than mentioned in the trip notes. Out of the 16 days we had 5 full days of driving. So 11 days out of which the arrival and departure days. If you book in advance an activity you will be charged much more. In my case the golden monkeys was charged 180 usd and locally it was 100 usd. An other traveler booked in advance the ballon but she was not charged more . So there is some ambiguity in the pricing …. If you are Australian you would be privileged… as regards pricing . This is what I have understood. I am well traveled and it is the first time I see such ambiguity in the price of pre booked activities.

I enjoyed an excellent experience on this 14 day tour. It provides the opportunity to see almost all of the African animals that you would hope to see on any safaris in Africa with the addition of viewing gorillas, chimpanzees, and golden monkeys close-up in beautiful jungle environments. The tour also provided the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Uganda from the amazing countryside landscape to the fascinating people that live there. I have traveled in several other African countries on previous safaris and adding this tour to my resume allowed me to have a more total experience when is comes to enjoying all that Africa has to offer in terms of its rare animals and stunning environments.

Not really knowing what to expect on this adventure, we were happy we chose this itinerary. It was fast pace but with enough time to rest between events. What a unique experience to see the gorillas and chimps in their natural habitat. The trekking guides took great care of us, gave us the information and support we need for a successful trek. We never felt unsafe during our treks. Our Devine African Safari private guide; Emma was fantastic, professional and personable. He made sure we were where we needed to be on time, thought ahead to ensure trip details went accordingly, gave us useful information throughout the trip, and overall was just a pleasure to have guide us. Travel distance from Entebbe to the trekking location is quite far but the scenery is unique and something to behold. Stopping at the Equator for photos and lunch at a local spot was a nice treat. The people of Uganda were very pleasant, calm, and inviting. We would definitely recommend this trip, Devine African Safari, and Emma to future travelers.

This was a MEMORABLE trip! All 3 staff, Heston, Westinghouse and Alois, were 5 star in every way. I'm my opinion, a better more upscale hotel would be a good start to thus trip. I found the Kenya Comfort Hotel to be seriously lacking. For the amazing day at Maasi Mara, please include the price of the jeep in the tour. There is no way we could have seen what we saw if we had been in the big bus. Please also upgrade the bus to include an electronic ice chest. We all purchased beverages that needed to be chilled, and ice was almost impossible to find. Finally, the tents are old, heavy and difficult to assemble. Please consider a tent upgrade for the future.

Had a fabulous and unforgetable camping adventure. Very well organised with our amazing tour guide, cook and driver. In our 60's we were the oldest couple, but as long as you're fit you can do this. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Our trip exceeded all expectations. Our Zicasso travel agent provided us with all the information we needed and answered all of our questions quickly. Before planning the itinerary, he listened to what we were hoping to get out of this trip and those interests were reflected in the itinerary he planned for us. Our guides were excellent and the accommodations were wonderful. Everyone had been informed before our arrival that we were vegetarians, and we were provided with wonderful meals.

If we could give our Zicasso travel partner 10 stars, we would. The entire planning and travel process was incredibly smooth and the trip itinerary exceeded our wildest expectations. From our first call, they clearly paid very close attention to exactly what we wanted in a honeymoon – a bit of relaxation and a whole lot of adventure. They delivered exactly that. They also worked closely with us as we changed our minds a few times about which part of Africa we wanted to go to, providing multiple trip revisions until it was perfect. On the trip itself, the execution was flawless. From the first airport pick-up to the tours and beautiful accommodations, we wouldn't have changed a single thing. We can't recommend them enough and can't wait to work with them again when we plan our next African adventure.

The trip was absolutely wonderful. Thanks to our travel planner and guide, we were able to fit so much adventure into 12 days. Communication was always prompt and our planner quickly answered all of our questions leading up to and during the trip. The transfer from our Kenya guide to our Uganda guide was seamless. We had an issue with logistics in the last few days, but our planner helped us solve it quickly. The only thing I would suggest they do differently: Our communication leading up to the Uganda portion of the trip was with the operations manager. We didn't meet our guide (or know they weren’t the operations manager) until the morning we left for Kibale. It would have been nice to have some communication with our guide beforehand as there were a couple of things on the itinerary (prepared by the manager) that our guide seemed not to know anything about, namely a game drive in Queen Elizabeth Park.

The best Uganda tour operator for you is one that offers the best safari deal while meeting the standards below. Don’t rely solely on brand reputation, as even well-known brands can sometimes provide subpar experiences.

Over a year ago, I came across a review on TripAdvisor where a client complained about a prominent Uganda safari company (name withheld). They had issues such as gorilla permits purchased under incorrect names and a switch from comfortable accommodations to wild camping despite having paid for the former at booking.

This serves as a reminder not to place blind trust in the so-called big Uganda tour operators.

The standards listed below will help you make an informed personal judgment. You can choose a Uganda safari company from the recommended list above. I have personally traveled with each of them and can assure you of getting excellent value for your money.

Here are some of the most important points you should consider before booking a safari with any Uganda tour operator:

Make inquiries with at least five tour operators, then research them thoroughly as you narrow down to the one you believe is the best fit for your trip. If you are looking for travel agencies in Uganda to partner with, any of the ones listed above are suitable. They are proficient in organizing Uganda gorilla trekking from Kigali or gorilla tours starting from Entebbe .

Safari Package offered

This is actually the most vital point on the list. Even the best tour companies gain credibility and trust because they offer exceptional services to their clients; hence, you should be very mindful about the safari package you are booking.

Examine the lodging options, the type of vehicle to be used (it must be a 4×4 wheel drive with an open roof), the activities, driving hours, price, inclusions, and exclusions carefully. If you feel the package looks good, then you can proceed to list the safari operator for further research.

Customer Care

How responsive is the Uganda safari company you are booking a safari with? Consider their communication: Is it perfect or just standard business communication? Customer care reveals itself from the moment of inquiry, and it should be taken seriously.

A company that communicates effectively with you is likely to maintain that level of service even after you book a safari with them. I once observed a tour operator consultant interact with a client to such an extent that the client wanted them to accompany them on their safari.

That is the essence of customer care. Only companies with excellent customer care are included in my list of travel agencies and tour operators in Uganda.

 Affiliations to Travel Associations

Is the company you’re dealing with affiliated with any travel associations in the country or internationally? Currently, the most influential travel association in Uganda is the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO). Regrettably, out of the 500+ tour companies in Uganda, less than 200 are registered with them.

Being a member of this Uganda tour operators association offers financial security and adherence to a set of guidelines, which has helped AUTO maintain a list of only credible operators.

It is rare to hear of a member of AUTO engaging in inappropriate activities.

Note: There may be scenarios where you feel comfortable with tour operators not registered with AUTO. Do not dismiss them solely because they lack this affiliation. Even non-members can offer exceptional safaris at reasonable prices. It’s advisable to look at their past reviews to make a judgment.

Is the Uganda Safari Company fully registered?

There are several methods to determine whether a safari company is registered and authorized to operate within Uganda’s laws.

Firstly, ensure they accept deposits to company bank accounts, as only registered companies can open such accounts. Secondly, check for their membership in the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO), which requires original company registration documents before listing members. Thirdly, inquire with the Uganda Tourism Board, and lastly, check for their membership on SafariBookings, which also requires original company documents for listing members, albeit a scanned copy rather than the original.

While there are other ways to verify a safari operator’s company registration status, the ones listed are the most accessible for tourists.

However, making deposits to bank accounts and checking for AUTO membership are the most reliable methods. I don’t recommend relying solely on SafariBookings because documents can be forged to get listed.

If the company you are dealing with is registered in another country, the safest way to proceed is to make deposits into company bank accounts. My list comprises only registered travel and tour companies in Uganda.

What does Tripadvisor or SafariBookings say about your Uganda tour operator?

These platforms are crucial as they host reviews from past clients, which can help you differentiate between a good and a bad company. Visit these platforms, check for reviews, and if you come across any negative reviews about a Ugandan tour operator related to financial problems, I suggest you cross that company off your list. Your ideal tour operator in Uganda should have at least a 4.5-star review rating on TripAdvisor.

Does experience matter?

Experience is crucial, but the question is, in what context? Is it the experience of Ugandan tour operators as a whole, or specifically the staff? I would opt for experienced staff any day because individuals who have been in the tourism industry for a long time often decide to start their own companies.

This means a Ugandan tour company might be new but staffed with some of the most experienced individuals in the industry. One way to gauge this is through the quality of the safari package a tour operator proposes. It’s often enough for you to assess their experience and knowledge, especially if you have already done some personal research. The list above consists only of Ugandan tour operators with proven experience.

Are the prices offered by the Uganda travel company high?

The reality is that over 90% of travelers are very concerned about the price of a safari, which has led to significant competition within the industry. One characteristic of the major players is that they are not usually open to bargaining with you. These companies have established their reputation, are confident in their services, and have numerous bookings to manage.

At the same time, these well-established tour companies are likely to provide you with the best safari experience, suggesting that you should not hesitate to invest in your safari if the package offered is attractive. If you are looking to spend less, it’s advisable to inquire with at least five Ugandan tour operators, then compare their prices and packages to choose the best one for your needs and budget.

Google Business Verification

While not the most critical factor, having a verified business location on Google Maps can help you pinpoint the exact offices of a tour operator. Most reputable Ugandan tour and travel companies have their businesses verified, which you can confirm by looking to the right of the search results on Google’s Knowledge Graph. Refer to the photo below for an example.

Financial Position of the Tour Operator

This point may not seem highly relevant, but it carries weight. Everyone feels more comfortable depositing their money with a bank that is financially sound. The same goes for Uganda tour and travel operators. Working with financially stable companies can guarantee you 100% financial security because there is less risk of the company becoming bankrupt unexpectedly.

I reside in Uganda and have observed that some Ugandan tour companies operate with indirect debts. Some accept payments for trips months in advance and divert the funds to cover other expenses like staff salaries, then rely on money from new bookings to finance your safari.

This can lead to problems when multiple trips are scheduled close together, and the company’s financial position is weak, potentially resulting in you receiving less than what you paid for.

Another risk arises with refunds. Operators that are not financially secure and divert booking funds may struggle to issue refunds in case of cancellations. I have witnessed this personally on multiple occasions.

This doesn’t mean these companies can’t deliver a trip; they may find other ways to raise funds for your safari upon your arrival.

The main benefit of dealing with a financially stable operator is the assurance of receiving timely refunds in accordance with their refund policies if cancellations occur.

Almost all of them have great experience and usually maintain the same working traits from their previous employees. They are likely to use the same accommodation facilities, same tour guides (most tour guides in Uganda are freelancers), and plan their trips in the same way at a lower price.

The only problem is finding who you should trust and who you shouldn’t. Not all new tour companies in Uganda are owned by people who have been in the industry for a long time. Some are actually owned by people who are just joining the industry.

Besides, such Uganda safari tour operators usually begin from scratch and won’t have so many reviews. So it can really be hard to choose a trustworthy company online without a basis.

This partly explains why so many clients end up going by referrals from previous travelers or booking through an experienced company to guarantee their holiday.

Doing a search online can be hectic and risky. There are quite a number of fraudulent websites that are actually owned by fraudulent people claiming to be tour operators.

You do not always have to book with the top tour operators in Uganda. I will show you how you can differentiate genuine Uganda tours and travel company that has more knowledge about tourism from one that doesn’t later on in the article.

You will be able to choose a good company for your upcoming trip 🙂

Responsiveness

What’s more annoying than sending an inquiry to a Ugandan tour company and you have to wait for hours or days to get a response from them? I believe good customer service starts with responsiveness.

A good Uganda safari company should be able to respond to your emails on time irrespective of what time of the day you reach out to them.

Tourism is a service business that binds so many people from different time zones in the world. A client who only gets free at a particular time could reach out to a company outside their hours of operation and I believe such clients also deserve to get a response in the shortest time possible.

Tourism is a 24/7 business I should say! Am actually glad some tour operators in Uganda have gone as far as offering services and responding to clients outside their hours of operation.

You should always give more priority to the quickest and best responsive companies irrespective of their pricing. Such tour companies are most likely to offer you good service even when on the trip.

You can confide in them for urgent feedback whenever you need any clarifications, modifications, information, or rather when you are making any new requests regarding your trips.

So when you reach out to about 5 companies for a quote (Recommended. Do not exceed this number), as you go on to compare the quotations and pricing, consider the most responsive tour operators.

Of course there a couple more factors that you have to consider as well. You shouldn’t solely consider responsiveness. It should just be among the criteria you use to single out a good operator but definitely deserves priority.

Trips that are booked with highly responsive tour operators usually result in wonderful experiences.

You are certain of asking hundreds of questions and getting immediate feedback. Your endless questions set a precedent for a good trip! So go ahead and let them all out without hesitation.

However, there are companies that do not want to be nagged by a lot of questions, and trust me, you will notice them. They will either stop responding to you or their average response time will keep getting much longer.

On the other hand, there is always that one Uganda safari company that will give you real-time answers to your questions.

Does the Uganda travel operator make you feel secure from the get-go?

A few emails exchanged between you and specific tour operators for Uganda should make you feel safe, get more knowledge, and probably gain more confidence in the company.

If an operator’s response does exactly that, then you have to give them strong consideration. Some tour companies will make you feel confident from the get-go.

They will send you well-tailored itineraries with most of the information needed by you to get a clear understanding of the trip you are bound to book.

Among these include the schedule, activities with time estimates, price of the package, inclusions, exclusions plus vital information about country requirements and laws among others. It actually gets better when their response time turns out to be among the best.

You should cross out Uganda travel operators that do exactly the opposite of this. This partly explains their inexperience or inability to match the standard requirements of client requests. Such tour operators are likely to listen less to your requests in case of any emergencies on your Uganda safaris.

I believe a good company should make clients believe more in their services right from the first or worse third email. They should feel secure to book with the company too and one of the key factors that impacts this is responsiveness.

The bad with this is some clients usually get stuck in the loop of communicating with multiple operators. Let’s say you have sent out inquiries to ten operators, you should be able to narrow down your list to at least 3 companies the next time you reply.

Your next reply after this should leave you with a final choice of an operator that you will communicate with frequently as you plan your package better.

This gives you a platform to ask all the questions you want and emphasize changes to a single package that you are going to book. If you get stuck between multiple operators, it will be hard for you to make a final decision.

In fact, I would advise reaching out to only 3 tour operators at the start of the planning process. This makes it easy to narrow down your list!

Pricing Matters

Of all factors, pricing matters most. You are not going to spend what you cannot afford or spend a lot for a less adventurous package. I will let you know how you can determine a standard price of a package and confirm its worth. You will also be able to notice tour packages that are cheaper than the standard amount and flag them.

Most scammers offer unbelievable deals on pricing, which grabs a lot of attention from tourists. A good tour package should not be too cheap, too expensive but rather worth its price.

So many factors determine the pricing of itineraries and among these include the duration of the trip, number of persons, level of accommodation, type of car used for transportation, number of activities in the package, and distance between destinations among other factors.

One mistake I have seen clients make is prioritizing the pricing of packages. I will explain why this is bad!

Assuming three Uganda tours and travel companies offer you a 10 days safari package with the same level of accommodation but with high differences in pricing, you do not always have to go with the cheapest but rather a package with more activities.

Clients travel for long hours to visit and explore Uganda. When you are here, try to maximize your time. It will be more costly for you to do a few activities, fall in the love with the country’s tourism, and organize for another visit to patch up for the foregone adventures.

I have seen clients come to Uganda, visit a few places then come back the following year for an extensive safari holiday. This is expensive unless considered a preference. Why not visit all the places at once?

Okay, let’s get back to the point now. A tour package may have the same number of days, same level of accommodation (assuming its luxury, mid-range, or budget) but turn out to be $800 more expensive than the rest.

The best thing to do is to read the day by day program and confirm whether the package has more activities than the rest. If the activities are less then it’s not worth it but if they are more then that could be a masterpiece.

Always book tour packages that have more activities irrespective of their price. Trust me, it hurts to spend more time driving than carrying out actual activities.

What travel activities are being offered?

Uganda apparently has an abundance of 10 national parks . These parks include Murchison Falls National Park , Kibale Forest National Park , Queen Elizabeth National Park , Bwindi Impenetrable National Park , Lake Mburo National Park , Kidepo Valley National Park , Semuliki Valley National Park , Rwenzori Mountains National Park , Mgahinga Gorilla National Park , and Mount Elgon National Park . Each of these national parks has activities to offer. Some are similar whereas some are distinct. The parks are located in various regions of the country and depending on the number of days you have available for your trip, visiting parks that are much closer to each other might be of great interest and convenience.

Besides, some national parks are more popular and fun to visit than the rest. I would advise concentrating on these particular Ugandan national parks. You’d rather go to a park that offers many nice activities than focusing on the ones that offer minimal.

Most of the best parks to visit are in western-Uganda and these include; Murchison Falls NP, Kibale Forest NP, Queen Elizabeth NP, Bwindi Impenetrable NP, and Lake Mburo NP.

Located north of the country, the isolated Kidepo Valley NP is a Ugandan cliche. It’s one of the best wildernesses you can visit for game viewing safaris. The reason why this park is less visited is sole because of its location.

If you aren’t taking a flight, a road drive can be hectic. You need about 2 days of travel to reach the park conveniently with minimal fatigue.

Uganda is a prime gorilla trekking destination . I would consider it the best amongst the other two destinations because of a number of factors ranging from; accounting for over half the population of the last remaining mountain gorillas, having four different sectors to trek from, the affordability of gorilla permits, number of lodges in the parks among many more reasons.

I would not advise visiting Uganda for gorillas only. The tourism industry is diverse enough to engage you for several weeks. A good tour operator will offer you a package that has the best activities you can maximize within the number of days you have available for your safari.

Always side with an activity-packed package. The rest and relaxation can always come later 🙂

Routing is everything

One mistake clients make is book travel packages without checking the routing and the driving time between destinations.

Irrespective of the number of days you have, you should be keen on checking the travel time between destinations, activities offered, and how they will affect your mobility.

A poorly planned tour package can easily mess up your holiday. You need more time to carry out activities and less time traveling else you will end up doing the opposite; traveling more than engaging in activities, which isn’t fun at all.

This is partly why I advise clients to consider packages that include estimates of travel time between destinations.

Another common problem is adding destinations that are so far away to one package. A good example of this is visiting Kidepo Valley National Park or Murchison Falls National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on the same trip.

Much as this is doable, you will have to spend about 6 hours traveling to Murchison Falls and another six hours traveling back to Kampala before you can take on a 9 hours journey to Bwindi and another back to Kampala.

A tour and travel package planned this way has more hours of traveling, despite having activities in between. It will definitely get clients fatigued; which I do not recommend. The best way to go about this is using domestic flights. It might seem expensive but trust me, it is more convenient.

The other option to this would be combining the gorillas in Bwindi with a park that offers similar activities. For this case, Queen Elizabeth National Park would be perfect.

Unfortunately, not so many clients are willing to understand this. A Uganda tour operator can decide to go as far as advising you to book flights instead of road transfer but the majority of clients will not understand this.

They will always choose the cheapest option over the rest irrespective of how convenient the service is. Some travel companies really don’t mind about this. So long as they can pocket their service fee, the rest is left to you.

I do not support booking poorly planned packages. If you come across a company that takes time to advise you on how you can make your safari better in terms of routing, you should prioritize them because as much as they want to make money off your trip, they are mindful about the experience you are bound for too.

Besides, we live in an era of Google Maps. You can always confirm your routing online and ask for modifications where you see a lot of driving time. However, do not fully rely on Google Maps, roads here are bad!

A journey of 9 hours online might turn out to be 15 hours because of the poor road condition.

Nevertheless, the best tour operators in Uganda will tailor well-routed itineraries.

What do TripAdvisor reviews & Social Media say about the tour operator?

TripAdvisor has turned out to be the biggest review platform in the world. There are several other review platforms on the web but I have chosen TripAdvisor because it turns out to be the most used in the Uganda Tourism Industry.

It is a great place to source reviews about travel companies. The Uganda tour operators’ TripAdvisor page should give you a good list or perhaps you could choose to do an online search and check for reviews on TripAdvisor. Either way works!

On the other end, social media has become vital too. Some social networking sites like Facebook allow local businesses to collect reviews from their clients.

The follower base, average response time, and regular updates are vital factors clients should consider too. They partly help you know which companies are genuine and serious about their businesses.

Does having reviews matter? How many reviews do Uganda tours and travel companies need for a client to trust them? How many social media followers do they need?

What happens when the company has no review? What if some reviews are negative but the majority are positive? I will be answering all the questions below.

Well, as a matter of fact; most clients screw up here! They either do not bother to check for a company’s reviews on TripAdvisor or they ignore companies with fewer reviews.

The fact is reviews matter but you should also consider the fact that every business starts from somewhere. Even the companies with over 200 reviews started with no review.

So what happens when a company has no review at all but you like their package? For this case, I would advise requesting the certificate of incorporation, trading license, and particulars of the directors.

So how many reviews do Uganda tours and travel companies need for a client to trust them? A few reviews should be enough to generate some trust. However, you should be cautious and endeavor to contact the reviewers for feedback.

If possible, go ahead and request their phone numbers and schedule a call. Some companies forge their first reviews to get clients. It’s up to you to follow up and confirm the authenticity of the reviews.

For cases where a company has more than ten reviews? You can go ahead and trust them. This actually brings us to our very first point; some of the employees of the big have gone small.

Landing on a company that has fewer reviews but is offering the best package is no excuse for you to cross them out. Simply confirm the authenticity of their reviews and give them a chance. They could provide better service than the highest-reviewed tour operator on your list.

What if some reviews are negative but the majority are positive? One problem with review platforms like TripAdvisor is they do not give much consideration to the tour operator.

Any client can write all bad about a company and he retains the privilege to delete the review or leave it online even when they were on the wrong. TripAdvisor will not come to the rescue of a company either.

So if a few reviews are bad and you are satisfied with the response from the tour operator, go ahead and book with them. Do not judge a company by a few bad reviews yet the majority are rated excellent.

Accommodation offered

Where you sleep matters a lot when it comes to safaris. A bad selection of lodges can ruin your trip. Some clients claim they are flexible and ask tour operators to book them in budget or shoestring lodges but end up regretting their decision.

Nothing is worse than carrying out a tiresome activity and you return to a hectic lodge.

Some lodges in national parks have very poor service. I have seen some clients get booked into lodges that use generators to generate electricity but end up running out of fuel in the night; only to leave clients dining in darkness.

Some lodges do not care about renovation or replacing damaged properties. Others have broken sinks, water issues, or even have no water heaters in their bathrooms.

Do not be a client that claims they are flexible enough to sleep in the cheapest lodges. Uganda is an inexpensive destination and lodges here are not so expensive. You can actually get very affordable mid-range lodges for your trip.

All you have to do is request the tour operator to choose the best accommodation facilities that fall within your budget and leave the rest to them.

The accommodation also goes hand in hand with transportation. A comfortable car with comfortable accommodation should get you relaxed enough to enjoy your trip. Comfort is very key and I strongly emphasize it. You should never take it for granted else you will have regrets with little to do.

One thing about accommodation that I want to address is clients that fall for photographs on websites of accommodation facilities. Not all these photographs portray what is on the ground.

Some of these lodges go as far as hiring professional photographers to take the best shots of the lodge and edit the photographs to create an appealing look. As a person on the ground, I have seen lodges that look so different in real life but have some of the best photos online.

This mainly applies to luxury lodges and a few mid-range lodges. Do not give much consideration to photos you see online but rather read the respective reviews of all the lodges included in your package.

From here you should be able to make a good choice. If you are not comfortable with a lodge included in your package, go ahead and ask the tour operator’s consultant to change it. If he objects to it for some reason, you should allow them to choose what is right for you.

Good tour operators stick to their proposal

No one would offer a masterpiece and expect less from it. Bargaining too much for a price reduction is not advisable. If a tour operator has stuck to his price and is not willing to make a price-reduction, this does not mean you should book with another tour operator.

If their package is good, does not fall very far away from the average price range and you like it, go ahead and book it. Do not over bargain for it or request changes to bring the price down.

Some tours and travel companies in Uganda are so desperate that they will offer a tour at a giveaway price. The price could further reduce with more bargain.

Whatever adjustments you request to bring the price down, they will welcome it or even suggest a cheaper option. Some do this because they hope to invest your money somewhere else and repay when you arrive.

The bad with this is these operators end up selling packages at losses and find it hard to facilitate your trip when your travel time comes.

Some will end up making last-minute changes to your package especially on accommodation without your notice and consent. You will just get a surprise when on the trip and won’t get any satisfactory reasons for the alterations.

Would you really want to go through this especially knowing you can avoid it?

I believe tour companies have to make enough profit from a tour so that they do not find it hard to facilitate your trip when the time comes. The profit should not be abnormal though.

From the different quotations received from operators, you should be able to judge the price range of a safari.

So if you want a well-planned, comfortable, and nice safari, avoid pushing tour companies to the wall in a bid to get huge discounts from them.

This might be of great benefit to you but trust me, not all exceptionally good deals are good. Some come with consequences. You can try and avoid this by trusting a few well-proposed packages.

Just like everyone else! If you truly trust what you are offering and think it is the best of what you could offer, you will be more confident with your charge and won’t regret losing a client over it since you confide in making sales out of it. The same applies to tourism.

Mode of Payments supported by the Uganda safari company

The most common modes of payment in the Uganda Tourism Industry are bank transfer, credit card payments through gateways like Pesapal, and to a very lesser extent, Paypal. The most common and affordable means to pay for your safari is through wire transfer.

The money usually takes 2 – 5 days to reach the company through an intermediary bank.

Please be advised to add a small transfer charge on top of the deposit. Most clients send the exact amount after their banks assuring them that the receiver’s bank will not receive less. This gets wrong in most cases.

Most banks here use intermediary banks to receive money. These intermediary banks usually take a small cut for their services. So to avoid sending less money, add the receiver’s transfer charge on top of the deposit and notify them about it.

The other common way of paying for your safari is by using credit card payments. The country apparently has two common card gateways and these include Pesapal and XpressPay. Both these gateways accept VISA, MASTERCARD & AMEX.

Their surcharge lies between 3.5% to 5% of the total deposit which could be a lot of money if the deposit is high.

The advantage of this is the convenience it provides and also security since you have an option of requesting a chargeback in case you sense something not right.

These companies are very reliable and will help you process your card payments but their charge gets higher depending on the amount. If you are sending over $10,000, you will be charged for more than what you would have spent initiating a bank transfer/wire transfer.

I would best advise using them for transactions less than $10,000 unless you are not bothered by the charge.

The last point brings us to a common question. Is Paypal supported here in Uganda? The answer to this is a NO and because of this, very few tours and travel operators in Uganda support this mode of payment.

The ones that do are owned by foreigners who use their international Paypal accounts to receive funds. Ugandan Paypal accounts do not receive money. They are only limited to making transactions and purchases online.

Avoid making payments using Cryptocurrency platforms, Skrill, PerfectMoney, or any other platform not mentioned here. No Ugandan tour operator uses these platforms and if any requests you to do so, that should raise your eyebrow right away.

Only book with local tour operators

Booking with locally-based tour operators will save you money. Most international travel agencies are intermediaries. Booking through them means dealing with two different companies; the one you have booked with and the locally-based travel operator that is going to run your safari.

Both these companies have to make profits off your trip hence, you will end up paying more than what you would have paid a local tour operator.

Most foreign travel agencies have ground handling agents here in Uganda that they use for running trips. Their packages are usually pricier but come with a great guarantee since these companies have been in operation for a long time and have a big brand name to protect.

Booking through them usually results in perfectly organized expensive trips. These agents are usually referred to as luxury tour operators in Uganda.

A client who goes online and searches for local tour operators and lists them down, contacts them and uses the criteria in this article to choose an appropriate company ends up saving a lot of money.

This has to be done with great caution though because it becomes hard sometimes to differentiate fake tour operators from genuine ones.

This is partly why I came up with this 5000 piece. Not only to recommend the best tour operators for Uganda that I have traveled with or closely monitored for some time and visited but to also give you criteria you can use to choose the best tours and travel companies for your next safari in Uganda.

You might decide to leave out the above-recommended list of tour operators in Uganda and do a search online. The choice is all yours 🙂

The best Uganda safari operators are not hard to get online. Nowadays the selection process has become much simpler compared to the days when there were very few unpopular review platforms, no social media sites, less internet coverage, and very few operators online.

You can actually get online and select out the best Uganda safari companies and confirm your safari in just a few minutes.

Like mentioned earlier, I only list Uganda tours and travel companies that I have traveled with before or closely monitored for some time. I also go ahead and visit their offices to ensure they are not briefcase companies.

All these companies listed above are professional and will deliver good service to you. Golden Monkey Trekking : Apparently, Uganda is the best destination to spot golden monkeys in Mgahinga gorilla national park however, some travel agencies may sell Volcanoes national park in Rwanda for the same activity. Golden monkey trekking permit goes for $100 and it is exclusive of park entrance fees.

Nature / Community Walks / Cultural Visits : Uganda has a diversity of cultures each with unique practices and traditions. Few African nations can match Uganda in terms of the wide variety of parks and reserves to explore. From action-packed 4WD safari adventures to breathtaking mountain hikes, these five national parks offer memorable experiences to set your heart racing.

In Uganda’s national parks, there’s an adventure at every turn. This supremely fertile and biodiverse equatorial nation may be famous for its great apes, but it's also a prime destination for those looking to spot lions, monkeys and giraffes. Uganda is also home to over 1,000 bird species, from long-faced shoebills and delicate warblers to dazzling turacos and bush-shrikes. With tangled rainforests, steamy papyrus swamps, soaring mountains and layer upon layer of cultural heritage including three world heritage sites (two of which are national parks), this is a nation to explore in detail, one park at a time.

1. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Best for: trekking with mountain gorillas  

Some of Uganda’s most thrilling safari experiences require you to set out on foot. Hiking in Bwindi Forest National Park tops many adventurers’ wish lists, as this is one of the few locations in the world where tourists can track and encounter mountain gorillas. Alongside expert guides, visitors can navigate the steep and abundant rainforest in the hope of spending a precious hour in the company of a family of gorillas. While watching them respectfully from a distance, you can see them forage, groom and go about their daily lives.

While gorilla trekking is utterly unforgettable, it’s not the only way to explore this protected forest. Join a guided birdwatching or plant-spotting walk, and you’ll hear and see a host of fascinating species. Additionally, Batwa cultural performers, whose ancestors lived among the trees, run organised events on the forest fringes to share their rich heritage.

2. Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Best for: rare, high-altitude flora and fauna

Uganda’s spectacular Rwenzori Mountains National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994 — contains Africa’s third-highest mountain, Margherita Peak on Mount Stanley (5,109m). Ecologically, geologically and culturally, the park is hugely significant, containing the highest and most permanent sources of the River Nile and a bounty of endemic plants, including giant heathers, groundsels, lobelias and medicinal herbs.

Make no mistake, this national park is challenging to explore. But for resilient hikers and climbers, the Rwenzoris’ striking alpine scenery has masses of rugged appeal, with snowy glaciers, fast-flowing rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Birds are plentiful, and with luck, you can also spot forest elephants, L’Hoest’s monkeys and Rwenzori black-fronted duikers.

3. Kidepo Valley National Park

Best for: semi-arid savannah, giraffes and cheetahs  

Is there any creature more graceful than a giraffe in full gallop? They look as if they’re travelling in slow motion, even when they’re topping 34 miles per hour. One of the best places to see these natural athletes is Kidepo Valley National Park : its picturesque savannahs are a stronghold of the rare and endangered Rothschild’s giraffes — a subspecies of the Northern giraffe.

Kidepo is the least known of Uganda’s vast protected grasslands. Named after the seasonal Kidepo River, it’s tucked away in Uganda’s remote northern reaches, over 10 hours by road from the capital Kampala. Make an effort to visit, and you’ll be richly rewarded — in addition to giraffes, you could spot cheetahs, ostriches, bat-eared foxes, and other aridity-adapted species found nowhere else in Uganda.

4. Murchison Falls National Park

Best for: the Victoria Nile, hippos and elephants  

The Nile, a river of legends, surges through Uganda with youthful vigour. One of its most spectacular cascades lies at the heart of Uganda’s largest protected area, Murchison Falls National Park . Here, water flowing between Lake Victoria and Lake Albert tumbles through a rocky gorge, just seven to ten metres wide, at around 300 cubic metres per second. For energising views, visit the Top of the Falls Viewpoint or follow the gorge’s hiking trails.

Below the falls, the banks are richly vegetated, and the waters serene. Take a leisurely afternoon boat trip along the Victoria Nile from Paraa, and you’ll see hippos, elephants, crocodiles and dozens of birds among the Borassus palms and papyrus stalks.

5. Mount Elgon National Park

Best for: budget-friendly mountain adventures Mount Elgon National Park , Africa’s eighth-highest massif, can only be explored on foot. Located on the Ugandan-Kenyan border, it’s far quieter than other major East African mountain destinations such as Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya and the Rwenzoris. Mount Elgon is an excellent option for hikers and climbers seeking a peaceful, good-value adventure. The three main trailheads are accessible by road, and park entrance and guiding fees are affordably priced.
