Capital One Launches Venture X

Introducing a new class of travel card, helping fuel people's passion for travel.

November 9, 2021

McLEAN, Virginia (November 9, 2021) — Capital One (NYSE: COF) today launched Venture X, its new class of travel card. Venture X offers customers enhanced earn everywhere, with 2X miles on every purchase, plus enhanced earn on travel (10X on hotels and rental cars, and 5X on flights booked via Capital One Travel). The card comes with straightforward travel perks, including up to a $300 annual credit for bookings made on Capital One Travel, 10,000 bonus miles every account anniversary, unlimited access to Capital One Lounges and to more than 1,300 Priority Pass™ lounges worldwide, and so much more.

In addition to these best-in-class benefits, Venture X cardholders who sign up now can earn 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first six months and will also receive up to $200 in statement credits during their first cardholder year for vacation rentals like Airbnb, TurnKey, Vacasa and Vrbo.

“Throughout the last year, we stayed closely connected to our customers and industry experts,” said Lauren Liss, managing vice president, Card at Capital One. “While the travel experience may look different for some people right now, it continues to be a passion point for many. Trips both near and far provide an opportunity to get away, connect, recharge, and explore. With this in mind, Capital One is continuing to find new ways to offer best-in-class travel products, like Venture X, and experiences that help people do what they love, wherever and whenever that may be.”

At a competitive $395 annual fee, Venture X offers the following product features and benefits:

Enhanced Earn

  • Elevated rewards on all types of spending. Venture X cardholders earn unlimited double miles on all purchases (2X), enhanced earn on flights (5X), hotels and rental cars (10X) when booking via Capital One Travel.

Valuable, Limited-Time Offers

  • 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 on purchases within the first six months of an account opening.
  • A limited-time statement credit of up to $200 for vacation rentals (e.g., Airbnb and Vrbo) during the first cardholder year.

Easy-to-Use, Premium Travel Perks

  • Up to $300 back in statement credits each year for bookings made through Capital One Travel.
  • 10,000 mile anniversary bonus (equal to $100 towards travel) each year after you renew your account.
  • Unlimited access to Capital One Lounges and 1,300+ Priority Pass™ lounges worldwide.
  • Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle® status, where you can skip the rental counter, choose from the widest selection of Hertz cars, and enjoy guaranteed upgrades.
  • Up to $100 statement credit for either Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®.
  • Exclusive access to top-tier entertainment, sports and dining events across the country through the Capital One Experiences program.

Differentiated Flexibility, So You Can Travel When and How You Want

  • Unlike many airline, hotel, or other travel rewards cards, Venture X offers multiple flexible ways to redeem rewards. Customers can use miles to book via Capital One Travel,  transfer miles to 15+ travel loyalty programs, or redeem rewards for any recent travel purchases, including vacation rentals, flights, hotels, rideshares, cruises, and more.

Rewarding You When You Share Venture X with Family and Friends

  • Option to add additional cardholders to share your account and benefits at no extra cost.
  • Primary cardholders can earn up to 100,000 miles per year for referring friends (up to four referrals per year; 25,000 miles awarded per referral).

One of the hallmarks for Venture X customers is Capital One Travel. The new travel booking experience has innovative features like predictive pricing models and tools to ensure customers get the best offers available. Capital One Travel provides access to thousands of flights, hotels, and rental cars, along with features like free price-drop protection and 24/7 price alert technology. In the coming weeks, Capital One Travel will offer customers the option to freeze the price of a flight and return up to 14 days later to book it.

In addition to Capital One Travel, Venture X cardholders can get unlimited access to Capital One Lounges. Capital One Lounges offer a modern space full of premium amenities that provide visitors with a best-in-class travel experience from the moment they step through the door. This includes an industry-leading food and beverage program focused on locally sourced ingredients, uniquely and sustainably packaged premium grab-and-go selections, and health and wellness amenities including a cycling and a yoga room, and relaxation rooms with eye covers, blankets and other luxury amenities to help you recharge away from the crowds.

“Venture X is the next step on our travel journey, building off of the flexible rewards offered through the Venture product suite to include enhanced earn on travel, along with a wide array of top-tier benefits and redemption options that help customers venture further,” Liss added.

Like all Capital One credit cards, the new Venture X card has no minimums for rewards redemptions, no category caps, no blackout dates, no foreign transaction fees, and it comes with the same great digital benefits and features that have made Capital One an innovator in its industry.

Detailed review: Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card has an excellent rewards rate, access to airport lounges and hundreds of dollars worth of travel credits that can make up for the $395 annual fee ( see rates and fees ).

To optimize the card, you’ll need to book on the issuer’s online travel portal. If that suits you, the card can stand up to the stiff competition in the market for premium travel credit cards. And despite its many features, the card is overall easier to understand than most premium cards, which can be baffling for newcomers.

You won’t get brand-specific perks, like free checked bags with a particular airline or a free hotel night at a hospitality chain, as you do with co-branded airline and hotel credit cards. But it offers the flexibility of the popular Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card , while adding a raft of perks that just might give it the X-factor to make it your ideal travel companion.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card : Basics

Card type: Travel .

Annual fee: $395 ( see rates and fees ).

Sign-up bonus: Earn 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel.

2 miles per dollar spent on purchases.

5 miles per dollar on flights booked via Capital One Travel.

10 miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel.

Redemption options:

Use miles to book travel through Capital One at a value of 1 cent per mile.

Redeem miles for statement credit against travel purchases at a value of 1 cent per mile.

Transfer miles to more than 15 partner airline and hotel programs. Per-mile value depends on the transfer partner and how you redeem the transferred miles.

Redeem miles for gift cards.

Interest rate: The ongoing APR is 19.99%-29.99% Variable APR .

Foreign transaction fees: None.

Credit required: Excellent .

Other benefits:

(Note: Benefits may change over time.)

Up to a $300 annual credit for bookings made on Capital One Travel.

10,000 bonus miles every account anniversary (equal to $100 toward travel).

Unlimited access to Capital One Lounges and more than 1,300 lounges through the Capital One Partner Network.

Access to entertainment, sports and dining events through the Capital One Experiences program.

Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status. (Car upgrades, expedited pickup and more.)

Credit of up to $100 for the application fee for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck when you pay with the card.

Extra perks when you book a hotel stay through Capital One's Premier Collection like an $100 experience credit, daily breakfast for two people and complimentary WiFi.

Cell phone insurance.

Shopping protections. Includes price prediction, price watch, price drop protection, price match guarantee, extended warranty.

Travel protections.

Benefits and perks

Bonus miles on travel spending are expected for a higher-end travel credit card, and this one has those if you’re willing to use Capital One’s online travel-booking site:

Unlike some others in its category, this card is rewarding for everyday spending, too. It earns 2 miles per dollar spent on purchases outside those bonus areas. That’s an excellent rewards rate because so much spending falls outside the usual bonus categories.

If it’s your top-of-wallet card, you’ll rack up miles quickly even if you’re not booking a lot of travel.

Generous sign-up bonus

Sign-up bonuses can change over time, especially with travel credit cards. But the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card has an excellent one: Earn 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel.

That's enough to cover the annual fee for nearly two years. The downside is you’ll have to put a lot of spending on the card first. Spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months is an average of about $1,333 per month.

Airport lounge access

Besides access to more than 1,300 Priority Pass lounges , a somewhat common offering on travel cards in this class, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card offers access to Plaza Premium Lounges and full access to the new Capital One Lounges . As of November 2023, Capital One Lounges are open at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, D.C., at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and at Denver International Airport.

Besides Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card holders, authorized users receive unlimited access to both types of lounges. Many travel credit cards restrict lounge access to the primary cardholder. Up to four authorized users can be added for free, which is not the case for other premium travel cards.

Anniversary perks

Central to the value of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card are the annual credits, which have substantial dollar value.

Up to a $300 annual credit for bookings made through Capital One Travel.

10,000 bonus miles every account anniversary (equal to $100 toward travel). The first batch of miles comes when you renew after one year of card membership.

Those credits alone, granted each year, make up for the annual fee. That assumes you’ll use the Capital One Travel online booking service. More on that later.

Flexible redemption options

Capital One's rewards program gives you several ways to use your miles for travel — both travel you already paid for and travel you want to book:

Redeem rewards as a statement credit. Book travel however you want, then redeem miles for statement credit for some or all of the cost. Miles are worth 1 cent each when redeemed, with no minimum redemption amount required. Any expense that Capital One considers "travel" is eligible, including not only flights and hotel stays, but "rail lines, car rental agencies, limousine services, bus lines, cruise lines, taxi cabs, travel agents and time shares," according to the Capital One website.

Book through the issuer's travel center. This online portal offers flights, hotels, rental cars and vacation packages. You can pay upfront with your miles, at a rate of 1 cent per mile.

Transfer miles to partners. Capital One lets you transfer your miles to the loyalty programs of a number of airline and hotel partners.

“Simple” and “premium travel credit card” aren't concepts that usually go together, since the typical card in that category is wildly complicated. But relatively, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is easier to understand than, say, The Platinum Card® from American Express . That card has a dizzying array of benefits, many of which aren’t super-useful to everybody or take an inordinate amount of effort to use.

By contrast, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card at its core retains the simplicity of the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card by offering a flat rewards rate on all spending and lets you use rewards to pay for travel.

It layers on airport lounge access and more rewards if you use the Capital One Travel portal.

The point is that someone willing to endure only modest hassle from their travel credit card can enjoy and benefit from the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card . That same person might be frustrated by complex competing travel credit cards.

Travel-friendly perks

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card offers additional benefits frequent travelers will enjoy. Some come because it's a top-tier Visa Infinite card.

Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status. This is the top status tier at Hertz. You can get confirmed one-car-class upgrades, 50% bonus on Gold Plus Rewards points on qualified rentals, free additional driver, expedited pickup and e-return, and more. The status is typically reserved for customers who have 20 or more rentals in a year or spend $4,000. The status level is good through 2024, at which point cardholders "will be reverted to the level commensurate with Hertz standard usage policies," says the card's terms and conditions.

Trusted traveler application credit. A statement credit of up to $100 for the application fee for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. The credit is available once every four years.

Cell phone insurance . This is for the primary cardholders and authorized users.

Travel protections. These include auto rental collision damage waiver , trip cancellation and interruption, and trip delay reimbursement.

No foreign transaction fees. Standard on travel credit cards and useful for overseas purchases ( see rates and fees ).

Drawbacks and considerations

With annual fees, it’s all relative. A yearly fee of $395 is substantial, but other luxury travel credit cards have similar or even significantly higher fees.

A sampling:

U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite® Card : $400 .

Chase Sapphire Reserve® : $550 .

The Platinum Card® from American Express : $695 .

Still, if the big annual fee bothers you, but you like aspects of the card, consider the original Venture card with fewer perks: Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card . (See a comparison below.)

Outside the Capital One family, look at the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card with an annual fee of $95 . It’s versatile and valuable as a travel credit card.

Value tied to booking portal

Capital One Travel, the issuer’s online travel-booking site, has nice features, including predictive pricing models and tools to help customers get the best deals — including proactively comparing hotel rates against Expedia, Orbitz and other travel booking sites. It offers access to thousands of flights, hotels and rental cars, and features free price-drop protection, 24/7 alerts and the option to freeze a price and come back 14 days later to book it.

But this card’s value is so tied to that booking portal that it diminishes one of the main traits of the Venture family of cards: flexibility.

If for some reason you won’t use Capital One Travel for booking, the bonus rewards for spending on this card as well as the huge $300 travel credit are worth nothing to you. The card’s value proposition quickly shrinks. Some savvy travelers prefer to book directly with hotels, for example, which adds to their elite status with a particular hotel chain or allows them to use status benefits they already have. Booking through a travel portal can negate those elite benefits.

By contrast, the competing Chase Sapphire Reserve® also links the value of its rewards to its travel portal. Chase Ultimate Rewards® points are worth 1.5 cents each if used to book travel there. But an important difference: Its $300 annual credit can be used for a broad range of travel purchases, including taxi rides, campground fees and train fares. That travel can be booked anywhere, and the credit is applied automatically.

The comparable anniversary credit on the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card , one that can be used more flexibly for travel, is worth $100.

Granted, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® has a higher annual fee of $550 .

Lack of familiar transfer partners

For travelers who like to squeeze every last drop of value out of loyalty programs, the growing roster of transfer partners of the the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is appealing. You can now transfer your Venture miles to more than a dozen airline partners — but none are U.S. carriers. While transferring miles to foreign airline carriers can bring outsize value for your miles, it may be overwhelming for those just beginning with transfers. It does offer U.S. hotel partners for transfers to such programs as Wyndham Rewards.

If you want to work all the angles, one of the aforementioned Chase travel cards might be a better choice: The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve® . You can move points to several useful airline and hotel loyalty programs at a 1:1 ratio. Partners include United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Marriott.

Chase’s transfer partners:

Aer Lingus (1:1 ratio).

Iberia (1:1 ratio).

JetBlue (1:1 ratio).

Singapore (1:1 ratio).

Southwest (1:1 ratio).

United (1:1 ratio).

Virgin Atlantic (1:1 ratio).

Hyatt (1:1 ratio).

InterContinental Hotels Group (1:1 ratio).

Marriott (1:1 ratio).

How it compares to the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

Both Venture cards are general travel credit cards and come with the same base rewards rate of 2 miles per dollar spent. You can redeem miles at 1 cent apiece for credit on your statement against a recent travel purchase, use them at Capital One Travel or transfer to more than 15 travel loyalty programs. And both offer the same credit for applying for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. A third Venture card, the $0 -annual-fee Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card , is a less useful comparison ( see rates and fees ).

Is the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card worth the higher annual fee? Here’s a quick comparison.

If you already have the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card , you can also apply for the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card .

» MORE: Full review of the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

This card earns bonus rewards in a variety of popular spending categories, including dining and travel. You can transfer points on a 1:1 basis to about a dozen airline and hotel programs, or you can use them to book travel through Chase at 1.25 cents per point. Annual fee: $95 .

How to decide if it's right for you

The value of the annual credit for bookings at Capital One and the anniversary miles, if you can fully use them, pays the annual fee on this card.

So the healthy rewards and the perks, including airport lounge access, are essentially free. That makes the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card a contender for people on the hunt for a premium travel credit card.

Still unsure about whether this card, or any travel card, is what you need? See our best credit cards page for options across categories.

Hertz President's Club status : Upon enrollment, accessible through the Capital One website or mobile app, eligible cardholders will remain at upgraded status level through December 31, 2024. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g. at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. Additional terms apply.

Methodology

NerdWallet reviews credit cards with an eye toward both the quantitative and qualitative features of a card. Quantitative features are those that boil down to dollars and cents, such as fees, interest rates, rewards (including earning rates and redemption values) and the cash value of benefits and perks. Qualitative factors are those that affect how easy or difficult it is for a typical cardholder to get good value from the card. They include such things as the ease of application, simplicity of the rewards structure, the likelihood of using certain features, and whether a card is well-suited to everyday use or is best reserved for specific purchases. Our star ratings serve as a general gauge of how each card compares with others in its class, but star ratings are intended to be just one consideration when a consumer is choosing a credit card. Capital One Venture X Card Concierge Service

Reserved table at a restaurant

The Capital One Venture X card is a Visa Infinite card , which entitles you to use the Visa Infinite Concierge Service.

In general, here are the tasks that the Capital One Venture X card’s concierge can help with:

  • Book travel and make travel-related plans like tours, unique experiences, and high-touch services
  • Get exclusive reservations at top restaurants in the U.S. and around the world
  • Purchase exclusive or presale tickets for events and experiences
  • Gifts and floral arrangement delivery
  • Other unique lifestyle requests

Most of the tasks are completed by the concierge within 24 to 48 hours.

And while the Visa Infinite Concierge is available at no additional cost, you are responsible for any services or costs incurred .

It’s also important to set expectations — the Visa Infinite Concierge may not be able to accommodate your request if the restaurant you’re looking to dine at is truly fully-booked or if the event is truly sold out.

Capital One Travel is the travel agency arm of Capital One, and the Visa Infinite Concierge is a totally separate group of professionals helping you plan and arrange the other aspects of travel.

Capital One Travel cannot assist with restaurant reservations — it’s more of a platform to book flights, hotels, and car rentals.

The Visa Infinite Concierge can assist you in travel planning that includes flights, hotels, and car rentals, but these purchases would earn 2x miles compared to booking directly through Capital One Travel to earn 10x miles on hotels and rental cars or 5x miles on flights purchased with your Capital One Venture X card.

You can access the Visa Infinite Concierge year-round, 24/7, by calling 888-315-6982 . You can click the prompt “3” for travel, dining, events, flowers, and other concierge requests.

Everything you need to know about the Capital One travel portal

Kyle Olsen

Editor's Note

Capital One's new travel portal, launched in 2021, has significantly improved since its beta release. It now allows Capital One credit cardholders , including those with the issuer's cash-back cards , to directly use their rewards for travel purchases. The portal also features updated flight search capabilities and the issuer's hotel programs: the Premier Collection and the Lifestyle Collection .

In this guide, we will explain what you need to know about the Capital One portal.

What is the Capital One travel portal?

venture x travel number

Credit card issuers often provide bonus rewards when using their travel portals, but they can be frustrating due to poor customer service and user interfaces. However, Capital One differentiates itself by integrating technology from Hopper, a trusted app for predicting the lowest prices for flights and hotels. With access to vast amounts of data, Capital One claims a 95% accuracy rate in price predictions.

The portal also offers customer-friendly features like price drop protection, best price guarantee and price match with competitors. Suppose the portal advises you to book a flight. In that case, you will receive automatic price drop protection, ensuring a partial refund as a travel credit if the ticket price decreases within a specified time frame (generally up to $50 after booking).

Capital One has also addressed customer concerns by adding more support staff to reduce phone hold times. Three paid add-on features are available for users: cancel-for-any-reason (CFAR) coverage, price freeze protection and rapid rebooking .

CFAR coverage allows you to cancel your flight up to three hours before travel and receive back 70-90% of the ticket price. On the other hand, price freeze protection lets you pay a fee to lock in a price, protecting against sudden price increases. Rapid rebooking lets you select a same-day or next-day flight for up to $5,000 on any airline if your flight is delayed more than two hours or you risk not making your connection.

Here's a list of some top Capital One cards that offer access to Capital One Travel:

  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card
  • Capital One Spark Cash Plus
  • Capital One Spark Miles for Business

You can access the portal through this link .

How to book flights through the Capital One travel portal

To book airfare using the Capital One travel portal, log into your account and hover over the "Flights" tab to search for one-way or round-trip flights. Enter your desired departure and arrival cities.

When selecting departure and return dates, it's not just a matter of merely selecting the convenient dates for you. Capital One brings in Hopper's familiar, color-coded interface, allowing you to see which dates offer the lowest prices in economy class.

venture x travel number

You'll see Capital One's booking recommendation and flight options on the next screen.

venture x travel number

From the results page, you can narrow the parameters by:

  • Fare class (cabin)

Then, you can sort your results by:

  • Recommended
  • Price (low to high)
  • Departure time (earliest to latest)
  • Arrival time (earliest to latest)
  • Stops (least to most)
  • Duration (shortest to longest)

There are a few other interesting features worth mentioning. Above all the options, you can see the price prediction tool come into effect with clear messaging on whether or not it's a good time to book.

venture x travel number

If the site's algorithms advise you to book, that will trigger free price drop protection. You'll get back up to $50 of the difference as a future travel credit if you book now and the price drops in the specified time period (10 days in the above example).

If you're not ready, you can press "Watch This Trip" to receive emails about the best time to book whenever better prices become available. Unfortunately, this feature applies to the route and date, not the specific flight(s) you want to watch — though you can exclude basic economy and connecting flights.

Pay attention to the fare class when booking flights. Basic economy differs between airlines. For example, United Airlines does not allow full-size carry-on bags, but Delta Air Lines does. Additionally, cancellation policies vary across fare classes.

Capital One has tried to standardize fare classes across all airlines on its platform, making it easier for users. When searching through Capital One Travel, you'll see the following labels:

  • Basic : The best-priced options are often basic fares with restrictive policies and few amenities.
  • Standard : Typically, main and economy fares include amenities like carry-on bags and seat selection.
  • Enhanced : These fares include more legroom, priority boarding, and free beverages and snacks.
  • Premium : These fares include cradled or reclined seats, priority boarding, and premium snacks and beverages.
  • Luxury : These fares feature reclined seats with personalized services and premium meals. Priority boarding is also included.

After selecting your desired flight, Capital One Travel provides an extensive overview of what to expect during your journey. This includes detailed information on seat measurements, aircraft layout and onboard amenities like power outlets, fresh food options and whether lounge access is included. These comprehensive details surpass what you typically find on other travel portals or even when booking directly with airlines.

venture x travel number

The payment side is quick and easy too. Enter the traveler information, with fields for frequent flyer numbers and Known Traveler Numbers (for instance, your TSA PreCheck number).

As a holder of the Capital One Venture card , I can apply my miles at a rate of 1 cent each toward the purchase. However, if you want to save your miles for later, press "Do not apply my rewards." You can use your credit card to pay for your reservation instead.

Note that the Capital One Venture X card offers 5 miles per dollar spent on flights booked through Capital One Travel.

Other options available in the booking process include purchasing the abovementioned add-ons: CFAR and price freeze. The price for these features will vary, depending on factors like your trip cost, how far in advance you're booking, whether the price is rated as "low" or "high," and other elements.

How to book hotels through the Capital One travel portal

venture x travel number

There are fewer distinctive features when booking your hotels through the Capital One travel portal, but the process is similar to the above.

To find a hotel, hover over the "Hotels" tab on the landing page and enter your destination, dates and number of travelers. Unlike flight bookings, there is no color-coded calendar for prices.

You'll then see a list and map format with various options. Filter your search by rating and price per night. Sort the listings by recommended, price (low to high) or star rating (high to low).

If your city has Premier Collection hotels, those options will appear toward the top. These hotels include benefits like an on-property "experience credit" of up to $100, daily breakfast for two people and complimentary Wi-Fi. Access is limited to those with premium credit cards from Capital One: Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Venture X Business (a business credit card formerly known as the Spark Travel Elite card).

venture x travel number

If you click "All filters," you can sort by the amenities that matter to you or even look up specific properties.

venture x travel number

While the search features are more limited than booking flights, you'll get a detailed description of each hotel and can find out about amenities, rates, location and cancellation policy.

venture x travel number

The payment process for booking hotels is the same as for flights. You can redeem your Capital One miles for the trip or pay with your card.

Paying with your card may be the better option here, as multiple cards offer bonuses on hotels booked through Capital One Travel:

  • Venture X: 10 miles per dollar spent
  • Venture, VentureOne and Spark Miles: 5 miles per dollar spent
  • SavorOne, Quicksilver and Spark Cash Plus: 5% cash back

However, if you book hotels in a major loyalty program — like Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors — through Capital One Travel, you likely won't receive points. You also won't enjoy any elite status perks.

How to book rental cars through the Capital One travel portal

The process for rental cars is straightforward. Click "Car Rentals" at the top and enter your search criteria. You'll receive a list of options that can be filtered by car type, price per day, rental car company and specifications.

venture x travel number

You can then reserve the car in a few clicks, with clear information about pick-up and drop-off.

venture x travel number

With some rental car agencies — Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar — you can add your rewards number to the booking and likely enjoy the associated benefits. The option to add your loyalty number generally won't appear for other companies.

This is particularly appealing for Venture X cardholders , as you can earn 10 miles per dollar spent on rental car bookings and still enjoy the complimentary Hertz President's Circle status* that's included on the card.

Note that these car rentals earn rewards at the same rate as hotels booked through Capital One Travel:

*Upon enrollment eligible cardholders will maintain Hertz President's Circle status through Dec. 31, 2024. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g., at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. Additional terms apply.

Further things to consider about the Capital One travel portal

venture x travel number

Capital One Travel packs a punch for cardholders, but there are a few additional things to remember.

First, consider checking alternative platforms like Google Flights for better prices or alternate routings before booking with Capital One. Credit card portals sometimes have higher prices and don't always show all available flight options. Be sure you're not paying more for the same itinerary.

Additionally, if you're planning on using your Venture miles or Spark miles at a rate of 1 cent apiece , you should always book directly with the travel provider (whether it's an airline, hotel or car rental company). Then, use the miles to cover that purchase. This ensures you get all of the benefits of booking directly while using your rewards at exactly the same redemption value.

Also, with 18 transfer partners , Capital One offers a range of options for transferring your miles at a 1:1 ratio. Before booking through the portal, compare prices against Capital One transfer programs. For instance, a $150 United flight can cost 15,000 Capital One miles through the portal or just 7,500 Avianca LifeMiles (plus minimal taxes and fees). In this instance, it makes more sense to transfer your Capital One miles to Avianca LifeMiles.

As noted, hotel and car rental reservations through Capital One Travel likely won't be eligible for perks in a given loyalty program. If your elite status is important, it's advisable to book directly with major chain hotels and most car rentals. However, if you're booking independently owned hotels or elite status isn't a concern, the Capital One travel portal may be a better option.

Finally, remember that Venture X cardholders enjoy $300 in annual credits for bookings made via Capital One Travel. Unlike the $300 credit on the Chase Sapphire Reserve , this only applies to purchases made through the portal. As a result, even if you'd rather book flights, hotels or car rentals directly with travel providers, you should still spend at least $300 on your Venture X through Capital One travel each year.

Bottom line

Capital One has made significant advancements in the travel space, including improved transfer partners, the introduction of a premium card and the opening of its flagship lounge in Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

The Capital One travel portal offers a user-friendly interface. With its detailed pricing and fare class information, you might consider especially using it for flight bookings. Additional features like CFAR coverage, price drop protection, rapid rebooking and price freeze add value for cardholders.

You can also earn bonus rewards for many Capital One Travel purchases across most of the issuer's card portfolio, making it a great option as you plan upcoming trips.

Trump’s Newest Venture? A $60 Bible.

His Bible sales pitch comes as he appears to be confronting a significant financial squeeze, with his legal fees growing while he fights a number of criminal cases and lawsuits.

Former President Donald J. Trump holding a Bible in his right hand. A sign for St. John’s Church is behind him.

By Michael Gold and Maggie Haberman

  • March 26, 2024

Before he turned to politics, former President Donald J. Trump lent his star power and celebrity endorsement to a slew of consumer products — steaks, vodka and even for-profit education, to name just a few.

On Tuesday, Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, added a new item to the list: a $60 Bible.

Days before Easter, Mr. Trump posted a video on his social media platform in which he encouraged his supporters to buy the “God Bless the USA Bible,” named after the ballad by the country singer Lee Greenwood, which Mr. Trump plays as he takes the stage at his rallies.

“All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many. It’s my favorite book,” said Mr. Trump, who before entering politics was not overtly religious and who notably stumbled while referencing a book of the Bible during his 2016 campaign. “It’s a lot of people’s favorite book.”

Though Mr. Trump is not selling the Bible, he is getting royalties from purchases, according to a person familiar with the details of the business arrangement.

Priced at $59.99, plus shipping and tax, the “God Bless the USA Bible” includes a King James Bible and a handwritten version of the chorus of Mr. Greenwood’s song, and copies of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance.

In his video, Mr. Trump expressed his approval of the book’s blend of theology with foundational American political documents, framing that mix as central to the political call that has been his longtime campaign slogan, Make America Great Again.

“Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country,” Mr. Trump said. Later, he added, “We must make America pray again.”

As he runs for president this year, Mr. Trump has framed his campaign as a crusade to defend Christian values from the left. He often makes false or misleading claims that Democrats are persecuting Christians. Last month, he told a religious media convention that Democrats wanted to “tear down crosses.”

His Bible sales pitch comes as he appears to be confronting a significant financial squeeze. With his legal fees growing while he fights four criminal cases and a number of civil lawsuits, Mr. Trump is also being required to post a $175 million bond while he appeals his New York civil fraud case — a hefty amount, though one that is significantly smaller than the $454 million penalty imposed in the case.

According to the Bible’s website, Mr. Trump’s “name, likeness and image” are being used “under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC.”

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to questions about the business arrangement. But CIC Ventures is also connected to another product Mr. Trump has hawked while campaigning: $399 “Never Surrender” sneakers that he announced at a sneaker convention in Philadelphia last month.
