Doing a Las Vegas-Valley of Fire tour is something you will never forget. If you have the time to take a  day trip from Las Vegas , I highly recommend visiting this  National Natural Landmark  and Nevada’s oldest state park, dating back to 1934.

Millions of years of erosion and wind created the park’s intriguing rock formations. There are many things to do in Valley of Fire. When the sun hits the rocks, they have a fiery appearance, hence the name Valley of Fire!

We absolutely loved  the tour we did , which included transportation from the  Las Vegas Strip to the Valley of Fire and a guided hike through the park. It was a wonderful experience seeing the multi-colored formations, Atlatl Rock, and the petroglyphs left by the Ancestral Puebloans, who originally inhabited the land. Las Vegas – Valley of Fire tour review

Visiting the  Valley of Fire from Las Vegas  was a lovely experience. The  drive to Valley of Fire  is quick and easy, and we got views of the Lake Mead Recreation Area along the way.

We chose the challenging hike, which lasted about 5.5 hours. At some points, we had to climb canyon walls and scramble over petrified logs and trees. John, our guide, was amazing and showed us the best places to take photos. Not only did we get to see colorful and unique geological formations like Elephant Rock, but we learned about the park’s history, too.

Atlatl Rock was one of the most unique structures we saw, and it was also where we saw the most petroglyphs. Along with the rock art, we saw some desert reptiles and even a fox, which was a nice bonus.

If you’re going to take this  Las Vegas tour to Valley of Fire , I recommend the morning hike so you can beat the Nevada heat and avoid crowds on the hiking trails. It’s 100% worth the price to see this amazing scenery up close!

The tour was wonderful. We had a great time, thanks to our guide Dennis Morrison.

Complete tour. Experienced guide, excellent food, respected schedules, comfortable car. Funny time.

The tour is terrific. I'm going on the Red Rocks tour tomorrow. I wish you folks would go to Zion, Bryce, or Antelope Canyon.

It was amazing. Would love to do it again. I am from England so I will defiantly be going home and telling all my friends and family about it. And if I know anyone coming to Las Vegas I will definitely be recommending this trip.

The tour is an amazing day out with lots of beautiful sites and views to take in. Easily the best tour ive been on

We had a great time, and Tommy did a great job keeping everyone involved and entertained.

The Fire Valley Tour was so beautiful! Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. This was my second time doing a Pink Jeep Tour and I will definitely do another if I am in Las Vegas again.

Valley of Fire is an awesome place to visit. This was my second time taking this tour. Since we had a different guide this time, it was nice getting Jerry's point of view on the locations we visited.

Outstanding tour. Highlight was seeing the big horn sheep up close near the visitor center.

It was great! We really got to explore the area and Sandy was very informative. She always made sure everyone felt comfortable and was looking out for us with the heat. The valley of fire is gorgeous!

Visiting the stunning Valley Of Fire from Las Vegas (2024)

Affiliate Disclosure for Destination Checkoff

I have been to Vegas more than ten times by now, but only on my last visit was able to carve out half a day to visit the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada with my family.

And I am so glad I did. I was so completely awestruck by the fiery red rock scenery at Valley of Fire. I felt like I was on another planet altogether. Maybe this is what being on Mars feels like!

Valley of Fire State Park near Overton, Nevada, is popular for its stunning red sandstone formations and ancient petroglyphs.

We enjoyed the Mouses’ Tank Road scenic drive through the park, did the Fire Wave hike, and captured lots of stunning photos! I can assure you that it’s an adventure worth taking while in Vegas.

So, let’s get into the details on how you can visit Valley of Fire from Las Vegas and the top things to do there on your visit.

In a hurry, and looking for a tour recommendation to Valley of Fire from Vegas?

➡ Valley of Fire Hiking Tour from Las Vegas – Half-day small group tour to explore the Valley of Fire State Park and do a guide-led hike that is tailored to the group’s needs. Great for photos!

How far is Valley Of Fire from Las Vegas?

  • Distance from Las Vegas to Valley of Fire State Park – around 50 miles
  • Travel time from Las Vegas to Valley of Fire State Park – around an hour

It took us around an hour to reach the West Entrance of Valley of Fire from Vegas via 1-15N, and then we took exit 75 to Valley of Fire Hwy.

Anu standing behind a white photo op cut out sign that says Greetings from Valley of Fire State Park with the red rock scenery in the background

Valley of Fire, being only an hour away from Vegas, is great for a full-day trip or even a half-day trip from Vegas, allowing you to escape the party atmosphere of the Strip and be in the outdoors. Very red other-worldly outdoors, if I may say so!

Anu’s Pro-tip: Valley of Fire is a great stop in a road trip from Las Vegas to Zion National Park , as it is on the way! If you are planning to visit Zion, you can stop by Valley of Fire on the way to Zion or while coming back.

Ways to travel from Vegas to Valley Of Fire

There are really only two options to travel from Las Vegas to Valley of Fire – drive yourself or take a tour from Las Vegas.

Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are not an option because of the distance from Vegas and the difficulty of getting a return ride from the Valley of Fire State Park to Las Vegas. Plus, the park is really large, and it is not feasible to explore it all on foot once you let the Uber go.

Drive yourself to Valley of Fire – If you are planning to rent a car in Vegas, then you can drive yourself to Valley of Fire. This is what we did.

Valley of Fire tours from Las Vegas – The next best option to drive, and the more common one, is to take a tour from Vegas. I recommend this small group Valley of Fire Hiking Tour from Las Vegas .

Most folks avoid renting a car in Vegas due to the steep parking prices on the Strip. So, taking a tour is the way to go. Out of our ten visits to Vegas, this is the first time we rented a car!

Stunning red rock landscape at Valley of Fire. Visiting Valley of Fire from Las Vegas is a great day trip

Valley of Fire to Las Vegas

If you drove yourself to Valley of Fire Las Vegas, you most probably entered from the West Entrance on Valley of Fire Hwy.

To return to Las Vegas from Valley of Fire, you can either go back the way you came or do the full loop and go out of the East Entrance and then reconnect to I-15N via NV-169 N.

We had time in our day and wanted to see the entire park, especially the Elephant Rock, which is near the East Entrance, so we drove the full loop.

You can also drive to Elephant Rock and still return via the West Entrance. The road through the state park is two-way, so you can turn around at designated spots.

Things to do at Valley of Fire State Park

Visiting Valley of Fire is one of the best outdoor things to do in Vegas besides gambling ! The top things to do on my list for Valley of Fire were the scenic drive through Mouse’s Tank Road and the Fire Wave hike.

There are only two main roads in the park – The Valley of Fire Road and the Mouse’s Tank Road. All the attractions are on one of these routes.

Below are some of the top Valley of Fire attractions we explored:

Valley of Fire Road

The Valley of Fire Hwy is the road that connects the west and the east entrances of the park. It is around 7 miles one-way between the two roads.

Valley of Fire road with beautiful panoramic landscape on both sides

It is the road that you will be on once you enter the park. We saw 360-degree panoramic views of the park as soon as we entered and glimpses of the red hills and the beehive rocks.

There are some attractions on this road, like the Arch Rock, Atlatl Rock, Elephant Rock, and Seven Sisters Picnic Area.

We drove all the way from the West Entrance to the East Entrance of the park and explored attractions along the way.

Mouse’s Tank Road Scenic Drive

Mouse’s Tank Road (also called the White Domes Road) is somewhere between the East and West Entrances and is the most scenic part of the state park. Do not miss driving on this road! This is the road that you see in most photos of Valley of Fire.

Stunning Mouse's Tank Road with fiery red rock cliffs on both sides of a winding road - in Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada.

The Valley of Fire Visitor Center is at the start of the Mouse’s Tank Road, and the road ends at the White Domes Loop parking lot. It is around 5.5 miles one-way.

There are several parking lots along the side of the road to pull out for photos or just to admire the scenery. Several parking lots had picnic areas and restrooms.

There are several hiking trails along the Mouse’s Tank Road, like Mouse’s Tank Trail, Rainbow Vista, Fire Wave Trail, and White Domes Loop.

This scenic drive lived up to its hype. It was just so stunning with the windy road with dips and climbs and the red rock formations on both sides.

We visited in January around late afternoon, just before sunset, so that made the drive even more pleasant weather-wise, and the lighting was perfect.

Fire Wave Trail

We only had time to do one hike on our Valley of Fire day trip, so I checked at the Visitor Center, and the park ranger told me that the Fire Wave trail was the most popular one. So, we hiked the Fire Wave in Valley of Fire park.

Trail with loose red sand and huge red boulders in the background

To reach the Fire Wave Trailhead, we drove towards the end of the Mouse’s Tank Road to Parking lot P3. It was late afternoon on a pleasant winter day, and the weather was just perfect for the hike.

The hike starts across the parking lot. There were many people on the trail. We walked through red sand and past some giant boulders to reach the trail part with the rocky rolling hills with striped colors.

A couple posing on the rolling striped hills of fire wave trail in Valley of Fire State Park

The red boulders had wave-like formations, with red, pink, and white swirl-like patterns in the rocks.

There is a marked trail here, but folks were walking, taking pics on the red rocks everywhere. The entire area looked really scenic in the evening glow. We loved exploring the colorful rocky terrain.

The Fire Wave trail is 1.5 miles out and back in total. You can do a full loop by combining it with the Seven Wonders or Pink/Pastel Canyon trail, which is a little longer. We didn’t do the loop and did the out-and-back trail.

On the other side of the parking lot, there were incredible pink-colored rock formations. It was beautiful!

light pink colored rock formations in Valley of Fire State Park

It took us around an hour total to explore the Fire Wave trail, but we stopped a lot for photos.

My entire family loved this hike, including my teen kids. I would say visiting Valley of Fire and doing the Fire Wave hike is one of the best Las Vegas attractions for kids .

There is no shade anywhere, so make sure to carry water with you. It was evening and pleasant when we went, but it can be very hot on a sunny day during mid-day.

Elephant Rock

The Elephant Rock is just before the east entrance of the park. There is a small 0.2-mile trail along the side of the road to see Elephant Rock.

The rock has an arch that looks like the trunk of an elephant, since the unique name.

Elephant shaped rock formation seen on top of a red rock boulder

I took the picture from the road; hence, the rocks in the back are kind of making the elephant’s shape less distinct. I should have climbed up and taken a pic from behind to get a better photo! Nevertheless, it was a unique rock formation!

Also, from here, you can see panoramic views of the desert and the state park. It was amazing!

Beehives (Rock formations)

Beehives are rocks with holes in them. They were everywhere, but we saw most of them near the West Entrance at the Beehives parking lot and near the east entrance where the Elephant Rock is.

REd rocks with large holes that look like beehives at Valley of Fire State Park

Valley of Fire Visitor Center

The visitor center is at the start of the Mouse’s Tank Road. It’s a great place for a restroom break and to get information from the park rangers.

The Visitor Center has exhibits to help you learn more about the history and geology of the park. We got a park map at the West Entrance when we paid the entrance fee of $15.

Best Valley of Fire Tour from Las Vegas

If taking a tour to Valley of Fire from Vegas, I recommend this half-day small group Valley of Fire Hiking Tour from Las Vegas , which includes pickup from most Vegas hotels. Also includes water and snacks. Your group gets to choose the hiking level difficulty, and the tour guide tailors the hike as per your group’s needs.

How Much Time Do You Need To Visit Valley Of Fire

I was able to see 90% of the park in one day. Valley Of Fire State Park is pretty small, and many hikes are short (less than a mile).

There are also many viewpoints where all you need to do is get out of the car and take a photo. If you want to see most of the park within a day, it is best to get up for sunrise (or pretty early), so you don’t have to wait in line during traffic. We left the park around 1 pm, and the line to get into Valley Of Fire State Park was extremely long.

Also, even though we were there in February, it was pretty hot by midday. We were starting to get heat exhaustion, so we decided to leave at that time. For comfort and fewer crowds, it is best to get there early.

Valley Of Fire Tours From Las Vegas

Below are many options for a guided hiking tour. All the tours pick you up from Las Vegas.

Best Time To Go

The best time to go to The Valley Of Fire is November through March. Temperatures are pretty mild for hiking (60 degrees F to 75 degrees F), during the day. Nights are pretty chilly, but no one is allowed to explore the park at night.

I went in February, and it was pretty chilly for sunrise, but it felt pretty hot in the afternoon. I no longer needed a jacket after 10 am, and the sun was pretty powerful. I can’t even imagine how it would feel in the summer. The Valley Of Fire weather was amazing when we were there. A sunny day with no clouds.

Things To Do In Valley OF Fire

Take the instagram famous photo.

Las Vegas To Valley Of Fire

The number one spot I wanted to see in Valley of Fire State Park was this Instagram-famous viewpoint of the long winding road. After talking to my friend, she told me it was best to plug in the exact location before heading out to the park.

The coordinates are: 36.448747, -114.515689, and is located on Mouse’s Tank Road. It is also shown on the Google Map above.

The best time to do this activity is at sunrise. There are next to no cars driving the road, not many people are there, and the lighting looks spectacular.

I had always wondered how people could take photos on the road, but after experiencing it for myself, I realized that not many people get up early enough. So we had this pretty much to ourselves on a Saturday morning.

The parking for this area is pretty small, and it is easy to miss, so it is best to put in the coordinates on your way to the park. If you got to Rainbow trailhead, you have gone too far. The rock is in between Mouse Tank Trailhead and Rainbow Trailhead.

Las Vegas To Valley Of Fire

Fire Wave Trail

  • Distance:  1.3 miles, roundtrip
  • Elevation Gain:  236 ft.
  • Route Type:  Out and Back
  • Difficulty:  Easy
  • Trail Guide:   Link

Fire Wave Trail

The Fire Wave Trail is not mentioned in the official Valley Of Fire map, but we still wanted to do it. I have seen countless photos of this spot and was excited to finally witness it. It did not disappoint!

The trail is relatively easy, but there are no shady spots, so bring plenty of water. It can get hot! It was early morning, and we were starting to feel the heat.

Eventually, the trail leads you on a colorful red, orange, and pink slab. It is so colorful and breathtaking! The best photo spot is on top of the wave and is shown below.

Fire Wave Trail

Pink Canyon

If you want to keep on hiking the Wave Trail, you will eventually run into the Pink (Pastel) Canyon. Unfortunately, since we didn’t have enough water and we were hot, so we turned around. But I have heard that is a fantastic spot to take photos of pinky-colored rock formations.

White Domes Trail

  • Distance:  1.1 miles, roundtrip
  • Elevation Gain:  177 ft.
  • Route Type:  Loop

White Domes Trail

This is such a fantastic beautiful trail. I really enjoyed it. It is easy, beautiful, and colorful. My favorite part was the slot canyon, as shown below. The slot canyon was fairly short but a lot of fun. If you are looking at the map, you will notice it is a loop, and I think going clockwise is the best.

The trail will take you steadily uphill if you go clockwise, making it easier on hot sunny days. This was one of my favorite trails in the park. I highly recommend it.

White Domes Trail

Rainbow Vista

Distance:  1.0 miles, roundtrip Elevation Gain:  95 ft. Route Type:  Out and Back Difficulty:  Easy Trail Guide:   Link

Rainbow Vista is a fantastic trail for the whole family. It features bright red boulders and rocks surrounding you throughout the trail. It is a spectacular trail with stunning views throughout. In the end, there is a viewpoint of even more red boulders.

I will warn you that the trail is pretty sandy, so you will probably have sand in your shoes after the hike. We ended up taking off our shoes and walking bare feet. Luckily the sand was not hot.

Rainbow Vista

Mouse Tank is probably the least exciting hike on this list, so you can skip this if you are low on time. It is pretty short and easy, though. This hike features petroglyphs and natural tanks that fill with water during certain seasons. Please do not touch or alter the beautiful ancient art.

Seven Sisters

Seven Sisters

Seven Sisters is a great spot for lunch. There are many picnic tables, and we even saw a couple getting hitched in this area! There is plenty of shade, and the seven big boulders look spectacular.

Elephant Rock

Distance:  0.3 miles, roundtrip Elevation Gain:  52 ft. Route Type:  Out and Back Difficulty:  Easy Trail Guide:   Link

Elephant Rock

The Elephant Rock is located near the Eastern entrance and is a short walk away from the parking lot. The rock formation resembles an elephant. I loved coming to this side of the park because there is a cool spot to take a photo with friends and family (seen below).

valley of fire tours from vegas

Atlatl Rock

Atlatl Rock

Atlatl Rock is a great place to spot ancient petroglyphs. The stairs take you up for a better vantage point, as shown in the picture. This is a quick stop near the western entrance.

Arch Rock

Arch Rock is a quick pit stop right after Atlatl rock. You don’t need much time here as the arch is next to the road. This was probably my least favorite part of the park. The arch was pretty small and hard to photograph.

Beehives

I liked the Beehive area. It is filled with wild formations that look similar to beehives. Many people were climbing around the numerous shapes. This seemed like a fun place for the whole family. There are no hikes, but I still enjoyed this area. It seemed like a fun playground.

Las Vegas To Valley Of Fire Itinerary

Like I said above, you only need a day to see most of the park, but if you want to avoid driving around everywhere, I have listed the perfect itinerary for the day below:

Things You Must Not Miss In The Las Vegas To Valley Of Fire

Not everyone has the time or energy to complete the above itinerary, so I list some of my favorite spots that you cannot miss.

Settle into our comfortable motor coach as we head out from San Diego early morning and journey towards the shimmering retreat where we check in for a two-night stay: the iconic Golden Nugget Hotel on Las Vegas's historic Freemont Street. Tonight, gather with your fellow adventurers for a warm welcome dinner at a popular Italian restaurant. Afterwards, head over to the Neon Museum, where you'll be immersed in the vibrant history of Las Vegas through its iconic neon signage. The evening culminates with a mesmerizing presentation of "Brilliant!", a captivating showcase bringing the city's rich past to life in a dazzling display of lights and storytelling.

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we head out towards our first highlight of the day, a calm-water float tour along the majestic Colorado River. You'll be treated to breathtaking views of the rugged landscape and have the rare opportunity to observe desert wildlife in their natural habitat as we traverse mesmerizing Black Canyon. Knowledgeable guides will share fascinating insights about the geological wonders of the area as you relax on large, safe touring rafts. Enjoy a boxed lunch as we make our way to Willow Beach landing, where you'll have the chance to explore and shop for unique souvenirs. Next, we journey to Boulder City for a guided tour, reveling in the rich culture and heritage and discovering its past and present. Our day concludes with a visit to the Hoover Dam, where we embark on a guided tour. Walking through original construction tunnels and marveling at the sheer power of the generators, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for this remarkable engineering achievement. As the evening approaches, we return to the Golden Nugget for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. With dinner on your own and free time to explore downtown Las Vegas, the possibilities for excitement are endless.

Today begins with an included breakfast and leisure time at the hotel before heading mid-morning to our next destination: the Sphere in Las Vegas. Embark on a captivating tour of the massive Sphere, exploring its futuristic design and innovative features. Lose yourself in the Sphere Experience, featuring "Postcard from the Earth"-a sci-fi journey deep into our future. Next, enjoy free time for lunch on your own at the vibrant LINQ Promenade, an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex located on the popular Las Vegas Strip. This afternoon, we depart Las Vegas and journey towards Zion National Park, passing through the stunning Virgin River Gorge, where dramatic walls and cliffs offer breathtaking scenery as they tower over the river. We arrive early evening at the Zion National Park Lodge, our home for the next two nights. Enjoy the company of your fellow travelers during an included dinner surrounded by the natural beauty of Zion National Park.

Begin your day with a leisurely breakfast at the Lodge before setting off on a fascinating excursion to Bryce Canyon National Park. As we leave the lodge, we'll traverse the iconic Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel, a remarkable feat of engineering located within Zion National Park. Carved through the park's towering sandstone cliffs, this tunnel provides a vital link between the east and west sections of the park, allowing vehicles to traverse the otherwise impassable terrain. In Bryce Canyon, we'll be joined by a knowledgeable local guide as we explore stunning locations such as Inspiration Point, the Amphitheatre, Sunset Point, and Bryce Point, where you'll witness the hoodoos and spires that make Bryce Canyon famous, with colorful rock formations stretching as far as the eye can see. A buffet lunch is included at Ruby's Inn before we return to Zion National Park Lodge to prepare for an afternoon tram ride along Zion Canyon's scenic drive. Absorb the stunning views of soaring canyon walls and the meandering Virgin River as your narrated tram ride takes you to some of the park's most cherished spots. Upon returning to the Lodge, dinner is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Later in the evening, depart for Zion Ponderosa Resort, where you'll have the extraordinary opportunity to witness the Milky Way with Zion Park Stargazers. Expert guides will lead you in stargazing and constellation identification while you indulge in hot chocolate and tea. Plus, you'll have the chance to view the stars through a powerful telescope, with the bonus of possibly catching a shooting star. After this enchanting experience, return to the lodge for a restful evening.

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before checking out and departing for the Virgin Valley Heritage Museum in Mesquite, Nevada, a historic site listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places that serves as a tribute to early settlers. Next, we head to the 1880 Grille for an included lunch before traversing the renowned Valley of Fire State Park. With its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone, the park is a breathtaking sight to behold. Here, you'll find ancient, petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years. The Visitor Center provides exhibits on the geology, ecology, prehistory, and history of the park and nearby region. As the day winds down, we return to Las Vegas and the Golden Nugget hotel for the evening. Dinner is on your own, providing the perfect opportunity to explore and dine at your leisure, and perhaps take in one of this lively city's stage shows.

A leisurely breakfast is included at the hotel this morning before we depart for Calico Ghost Town, a fascinating historical site offering a glimpse into the past. Located near Barstow in California's Mojave Desert, Calico Ghost Town was a bustling silver mining town in the late 1800s. Despite experiencing a boom followed by a bust, it eventually became a ghost town. Today, it has been restored and preserved as a popular detour for travelers. Explore authentic buildings, artifacts, and exhibits depicting life in the Old West during the mining era. Enjoy lunch on your own before the final leg of our adventure takes us back to San Diego. Arrive home this evening with new acquaintances and cherished memories of discovery, inspiring new adventures and enriching your life for years to come.

VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK

valley of fire tours from vegas

Experience some of Nevada’s most beautiful scenery just minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. Stunning red sandstone rock formations, miles of easy & challenging riding trails in the World Famous Logandale Trails System offers a trip you will never forget. Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000-year-old Indian petroglyphs.

LAS VEGAS VALLEY OF FIRE HISTORY:

The Las Vegas Valley of Fire derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs, 150 million years ago. Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape.

Other important rock formations include limestones, shales, and conglomerates. Prehistoric users of the Las Vegas Valley of Fire included the Basket Maker people and later the Anasazi Pueblo farmers from the nearby fertile Moapa Valley.

The span of approximate occupation has been dated from 300 B.C.E. to 1150 C.E. Their visits probably involved hunting, food gathering, and religious ceremonies, although the scarcity of water would have limited the length of their stay. Fine examples of rock art left by these ancient peoples can be found at several sites within the park.

PLANTS AND ANIMALS:

The area plant community is dominated by widely spaced creosote bush, burro bush, and brittlebush. Several cactus species, including beaver tail and cholla, are also common. The springtime bloom of such plants as the desert marigold, indigo bush, and desert mallow are often spectacular along park roads.

Resident birds include the raven, house finch, sage sparrow, and roadrunner. Many migrant birds also pass through the park. Most desert animals are nocturnal and not frequently seen by the passing motorist. Many species of lizards and snakes are common in the park, as well as the coyote, kit fox, spotted skunk, black tailed jackrabbit, and antelope ground squirrel.

The desert tortoise is a rare species and is protected by state law. If you are lucky enough to come across one please leave this likeable and harmless creature to live its life in peace in its own environment.

15 Looks That Did the Most at Coachella

The music festival had plenty of memorable fashion. Most (but not all) of it was ostentatious.

There was no shortage of celebrities onstage last weekend at the first installment of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Southern California, where Doja Cat, Billie Eilish and even Will Smith performed.

Ms. Eilish surprised spectators by joining Lana del Rey for the folk-rock singer’s first Coachella set since 2014. Mr. Smith, who started his career as a rapper, also shocked many in the audience by performing a rendition of his song “Men in Black” with dancers dressed as aliens during the reggaeton singer J Balvin’s set.

But some of the highest-profile performers at the festival weren’t there to work: Rihanna and ASAP Rocky , along with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, came as spectators, even if neither couple could exactly blend in with the crowd.

At Coachella — an orgy of brand activations, parties and musical performances — celebrities are but one reliable component. Another is fashion , which typically tends toward the ostentatious. That was mostly the case last weekend, during which these 15 looks stood out — some for being opulent, others for being over-the-top and a couple for being surprisingly simple.

Doja Cat: Most Harebrained!

Doja Cat performing onstage in long blond hair extensions that cover her arms and much of her body and that match the hair covering the boots she is wearing.

Of the many outfits worn by the singer and rapper during her set, this get-up involving few clothes and strategically arranged extensions might have stolen the show — if only by a hair.

Gwen Stefani: Most Hollaback Girl!

The singer, who reunited with No Doubt at Coachella, harked back to her punk style as the band’s lead singer in an ensemble that mixed plaids with mesh.

Jon Batiste: Most Bubblegum!

A jeweled choker and a silver bracelet added sparkle to the musician and band leader’s iridescent pink suit .

Ice Spice: Most Tied Up!

Instead of copper curls, the rapper had flowing orange-red locks, which she wore with a skintight, lacy I.AM.GIA bodysuit with ties at the legs, arms and chest.

Shakira: Most Unraveled!

The singer, who at Coachella announced a world tour promoting her new album , took the stage in a fiery shredded minidress that exposed plenty of skin and resembled a knitting project.

Lil Uzi Vert: Most ‘Seinfeld’!

A difference between this voluminous white top and “ the puffy shirt ” that inspired punchlines on “Seinfeld”? The rapper wore this version with bravado.

Paris Hilton: Most ‘Cowboy Carter’!

While Beyoncé was not present at Coachella, her presence was felt in Western-inspired outfits , like this pairing of flirty dress with cowboy hat and boots by the heiress who has moonlighted as a singer and D.J.

Simu Liu: Most Unassuming!

Yes, the sleeveless top flaunted the actor’s toned arms, but his festival attire was still relatively simple compared with what many others wore.

Lauryn Hill: Most Electric!

Among the visually stimulating elements of the rapper’s look were silver hair beads, heavy blue eye makeup and a vibrant yellow Balmain suit.

Barry Keoghan: Most Logos!

Somehow, the actor ’s gratuitous combination of Burberry check scarf, Versace top, Burberry check shorts and Nike sneakers … worked.

Xin Liu: Most Tin Woman!

The Chinese singer’s metallic top and pants evoked space-age garments by Thierry Mugler and Paco Rabanne . They were made by Syban Velardi-laufer, a costume designer in London.

Brittany Howard: Most Stained Glass!

Glowing would correctly describe the way the singer looked onstage in this colorful patchwork-style sequined caftan.

Campbell Puckett: Most Pookie!

In a TikTok video , the influencer known as Pookie described her outfit of flouncy top, leather microshorts and knee-high boots as “girlie rocker.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce: Most Coachella!

Mood boards for “festival style” the world over will likely now be populated with references to the singer’s and the professional football player’s outfits, which seemed effortlessly thrown together but were almost certainly constructed with care.

Inside the World of Taylor Swift

A Triumph at the Grammys: Taylor Swift made history  by winning her fourth album of the year at the 2024 edition of the awards, an event that saw women take many of the top awards .

‘The T ortured Poets Department’: Poets reacted to Swift’s new album name , weighing in on the pertinent question: What do the tortured poets think ?

In the Public Eye: The budding romance between Swift and the football player Travis Kelce created a monocultural vortex that reached its apex  at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Ahead of kickoff, we revisited some key moments in their relationship .

Politics (Taylor’s Version): After months of anticipation, Swift made her first foray into the 2024 election for Super Tuesday with a bipartisan message on Instagram . The singer, who some believe has enough influence  to affect the result of the election , has yet to endorse a presidential candidate.

Conspiracy Theories: In recent months, conspiracy theories about Swift and her relationship with Kelce have proliferated , largely driven by supporters of former President Donald Trump . The pop star's fans are shaking them off .
