Jason Aldean's Back In The Saddle Tour - Atlanta, GA

Country singer and songwriter Hardy was hospitalized with "significant injuries" after his tour bus flipped over following a performance in Bristol, Tennessee, on Saturday, he tweeted Sunday.

The singer, whose full name is Michael Wilson Hardy, was released from the hospital and is expected to recover, but the bus driver remains hospitalized, Hardy said in the tweet, adding that four people were on board at the time of the accident, all of whom were treated for "significant injuries."

A preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the driver as James Hudson, 59, and the passengers as Noah Brown, 36, and Tanner Gallagher, 32. Hudson was wearing a seat belt, according to the report, which said that none of the passengers were.

"Our friend, and bus driver needs your prayers as he is still in the hospital," Hardy tweeted of Hudson. "His family is with him while he is being treated and we're all pulling and praying for him."

"I've been released from the hospital, but ordered by doctors to recover for the next few weeks which may cost us at a couple of shows," he continued. "My team and I will keep the fans updated on that as I rest in the coming days."

The conditions of Brown and Gallagher were not immediately clear.

The bus veered off the right of Interstate 40 and flipped over onto its left side, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report.

Hardy had performed at the Country Thunder Music Festival in Bristol, a city about 300 miles east of Nashville, on Saturday night, according to the festival's website.

He is scheduled to perform Saturday in Arlington, Texas, on fellow country singer Morgan Wallen's tour, according to Hardy's website .It is unclear whether the performance will go on.

Hardy was named songwriter of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards this year. His third and most recent album, "Hixtape: Vol. 2," was released last year.

The Country Thunder festival's Twitter account posted a message of support for Hardy and his team.

"HARDY and his crew have become close members of our festival family, and we are praying for full recoveries for everyone involved in last night’s accident," the tweet read .

Bristol Motor Speedway, the venue that hosted the festival, also tweeted a message of support: "Please keep our friends HARDY and his road crew in your thoughts and prayers for a full and swift recovery."

Hardy concluded his tweet by praising the authorities who responded to the scene.

"God bless our medics and local and state officials for their quick response and incredible service," he wrote.

Country singer Hardy says he was treated for ‘significant injuries’ after tour bus crash

Jason Aldean's Back In The Saddle Tour - Atlanta, GA

Country singer Hardy asked supporters for prayers after revealing his tour bus was in an accident over the weekend.

The “Wait In the Truck” singer, 32, said the crash occurred when he and three other members of his team were on their way home from a show at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, on the evening of Oct. 1.

“We were all treated for significant injuries,” he wrote in a Twitter statement. “Our friend, and bus driver needs your prayers as he is still in the hospital. His family is with him while he is being treated and we’re all pulling and praying for him.”

The cause of the crash is not clear. NBC News reached out to a representative for the Tennessee Highway Safety Office but did not immediately hear back.

Hardy said he has been released from the hospital — “but ordered by doctors to recover for the next few weeks" — adding that he and his team would let fans know about any changes to future performances.

“Please keep our road family in your prayers and I promise to keep you updated in the days to follow,” he wrote. “God bless our medics and local and state officials for their quick response and incredible service.”

Hardy’s fiancée, Caleigh Ryan, posted about the accident in an Instagram story, sharing a photo of her and Hardy holding hands after the crash.

She also shared an update about the others involved in the accident.

“Michael, Tanner, and Noah are ok, thank God,” she wrote. “They suffered some injuries, but Ricky still very much needs everyone’s prayers. It really is a miracle that everyone is alive.”

She appeared to be referring to her fiancé, whose full name is Michael Wilson Hardy, videographer and photographer Tanner Gallagher, tour manager Noah Brown and their bus driver, whose name is given on Instagram as Ricky Hudson.

Hardy's sister, Madison Hardy Dennis, also shared a moving message on Instagram .

"We could have lost them all last night," she wrote. "Please send your healing prayers up for Michael, Tanner, Noah, and especially Ricky his bus driver. Life is so fragile; cherish your loved ones."

Gallagher shared a graphic photo in his Instagram story of his bruised face following the crash, saying he had suffered a “broken foot, broken ribs,” and a punctured lung.

Country Thunder, the music festival where Hardy performed Saturday, shared a supportive message on Twitter, writing, “HARDY and his crew have become close members of our festival family, and we are praying for full recoveries for everyone involved in last night’s accident.”

Everything We Know About Country Singer Hardy's Frightening Tour Bus Accident

Hardy attending awards show

On October 2,  country music singer and songwriter Hardy  alerted his fans that he had been hospitalized and subsequently released following a frightening tour bus accident.

"Following last night's show, our tour bus was in an accident on our way home from Bristol. There were just four of us, including myself, on the bus, however we were all treated for significant injuries" Hardy began in a statement on Twitter. "Our friend, and bus driver, needs your prayers as he is still in the hospital. His family is with him while he is being treated and we're all pulling and praying for him," he revealed. "Please keep our road family in your prayers and I promise to keep you updated in the days to follow," he wrapped the post. "God bless our medics and local and state officials for their quick response and incredible service."

But just how bad was the frightening accident? And how is everyone now? Here's everything we know.

Hardy's tour bus overturned on the interstate

Award-winning singer and songwriter Hardy (née Michael Wilson Hardy) was injured after his tour bus "overturned on a portion of Interstate 40 West" just outside of Nashville in the wee hours of the morning on October 2. As reported by The Tennesseean , just prior to the accident, Hardy had performed at the Country Thunder music festival at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee along with country music heavy hitters including Morgan Wallen, Lauren Alaina, Tracy Lawrence, and Ian Munsick.

Later in the evening on October 2, Hardy took to his Instagram Story to share an update and thank all of his fans for their support. "Thank you for all the texts and calls. I'm alive and that's all that matters. I love you all," he penned on Instagram along with a photo of himself and his fiancée, Caleigh Ryan (via Taste of Country ). Meanwhile, Ryan posted to her own Instagram Story noting that while "Michael, Tanner and Noah are ok, thank God," their tour bus driver, Ricky, "still very much needs everyone's prayers." She added, "It really is a miracle that everyone is alive." Hardy's sister, Madison Dennis, also took to Instagram to request prayers for her brother and the others. "We could have lost them all last night. Please send your healing prayers up for Michael, Tanner, Noah, and especially Ricky his bus driver. Life is so fragile; cherish your loved ones," she penned .

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for everyone involved.

Hardy’s Photographer Shares Horrifying New Details About Bus Accident, Says Everyone On Board Was Knocked Unconscious

hardy tour bus photos

First and foremost, thank the Lord everyone involved in this bus crash survived.

Our thoughts and prayers are still with HARDY and his entire crew, who are continuing to heal after being involved in a very serious and scary bus accident a little over less than two weeks ago.

They were previously vague on specific details surrounding the wreck, which occurred outside of Nashville in the early morning of Sunday, October 2nd, on the way back from a show in Bristol, Tennessee, which was part of the Country Thunder festival at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Yesterday, Hardy’s tour photographer/videographer and friend, Tanner Gallagher, shared a in-depth post on just how scary and dangerous the wreck was, along with some very graphic photos of his injuries and the aftermath of the bus.

He said that the bus ran off the highway going around 70 mils per hour, and flipped into the woods. He and Hardy were awake in the front lounge, and their tour manager Noah was asleep in his bunk, while their driver Ricky was at the wheel. At last update, Ricky was still in the hospital, so keep thinking of and praying for him.

Tanner also noted that he suffered a shattered foot, punctured lung, four broken ribs and a fractured vertebrae in his neck. He said everyone on the bus was knocked unconscious, and that multiple doctor’s told them it “was a miracle that we survived.”

And a warning before you keep reading, the photos are pretty graphic, so if you don’t want to see them, scroll on to the next post:

“It seems like this happened so fast but I feel the need to talk about it officially…

Last week we had one of the most terrifying accidents happen to us. For those who don’t know: around 2:30am last Sunday, our bus ran off the highway at around 70mph flipping us into the woods. There were 4 of us aboard: our driver Ricky, our tour manager Noah who was asleep in his bunk, and me and Hardy who were up in the front lounge.

Within what felt like 3 seconds, our bodies were thrown across the room knocking us all unconscious. By the grace of God, we all survived. My injuries included a shattered foot, a punctured lung, 4 broken ribs, and a fractured vertebrae in my neck. And yes, it’s been fucking terrible.

Although I sit here in pain, wrapped up in casts and hardly able to move for the next few weeks/months, I need to point out something important. I was told numerous times by doctors that it was a miracle that we survived… and that’ll make you think.

I think about the times that i’ve spent worrying, stressed, upset, been less present or simply took for granted, and it kills me. I think about all the people in my life, family, friends, co workers, etc. and wished that I could have spent more time with them or somehow made them feel better in moments with something as simple and little as a compliment.

Most of all, I think about perspective, in that it’s so easy for us to lose sight of all of the things we have. Take it from me, be grateful for fucking EVERYTHING. Even if it means just being healthy or being able to wake up for another day to spend doing the things you love.

As scary and life threatening as this accident was, I’m glad I now have a better outlook moving forward and it’s only going uphill from here. I know this accident could have been a lot worse and for that i’m so grateful. I’m also incredibly thankful for every message, prayer and every person who helped me over the past week, it meant the world.

I’ll be laid up in bed and in a wheelchair for a while, and that’s okay. So if anyone wants to drop off lunch or something, I will definitely will not stop you. Lastly, in regards to this post, someone please tell Sarah Hardy that i’m sorry for swearing.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by TANNER (@tanner.gallagher)

It really is a miracle they all survived, and very humbling to see just how bad it really was.

Hardy subsequently (and very understandably) canceled shows last weekend as a result of the injuries he and his team members sustained.

He also announced his second studio album this past Monday, the mockingbird & THE CROW , which will be a half country, half rock album, to be released January 20th, 2023.

And in addition, he has a his Wall to Wall bar tour coming up in December, as well as a tour in 2023 in support of the new record.

Until he and his team get back out on the rood, though, our best wishes to them as they recover from this horrific wreck.

Recently, Big Loud Records-signed recording artist HARDY posted to  Instagram that he was at home and healing following a serious recent  tour bus accident .  He noted that he is "ok," but the bus driver is "not in the clear yet." Related, he added that he would be canceling his appearances on his forthcoming shows. However, his Big Loud label-mate ERNEST (of  "Flower Shops"  fame) will replace him on upcoming gigs.

However, photographer and videographer Tanner Gallagher -- who was one of four passengers on board when the bus overturned on a portion of Interstate 40 West in Nashville early in the morning on October 2 -- has added a harrowing narrative of the events of that morning via a reflective Instagram post .

UPDATE: HARDY opens up about mental health struggles after tour bus accident, cancels shows

A Tennessee Highway Patrol report said the bus was traveling westbound on I-40 near the Wilson and Davidson counties border when it went off the road, overturning on its left side. No charges were filed.

Gallagher noted that he was "wrapped in casts" and "hardly able to move for the next few weeks/months," Gallagher recalled that around 2:30 a.m., the bus that he and HARDY (seated in the front lounge), his tour manager Noah Brown (asleep in his bunk), and their bus driver were traveling back to Nashville from Bristol, Virginia in "ran off the highway at around 70mph flipping us into the woods." He continues, "within what felt like 3 seconds, our bodies were thrown across the room, knocking us all unconscious. By the grace of God, we all survived. My injuries included a shattered foot, a punctured lung, four broken ribs, and a fractured vertebrae in my neck."

In an Instagram post from Sunday, October 9, Brown added that he's "pretty banged up physically and emotionally." He continued to note that "Team HARDY went down as 18 and came back through as 18."

HARDY's social media report on Sunday, October 2, noted that the tour bus driver is still hospitalized. That status has not changed.

"My team and I will keep the fans updated on that as I rest in the coming days," noted HARDY on October 2. He continued, "god bless our medics and local and state officials for their quick response and incredible service."

HARDY has also announced that he will follow 2022 wins for Academy of Country Music's Songwriter of the Year and a trio of No. 1 singles on country radio with the January 20, 2023 release of "the mockingbird & THE CROW," his second full-length studio album.

The album is scheduled to feature his current country radio single, the Lainey Wilson duet "wait in the truck," plus "red," a duet with his frequent collaborator Morgan Wallen, and already-released singles "here lies country music," "JACK" and "TRUCK BED."

Country singer Hardy recovering after sustaining 'significant injuries' in tour bus accident

"I'm alive and that's all that matters," Hardy shared in an Instagram story.

Country singer Hardy is asking for prayers after his tour bus was involved in an accident, resulting in "significant injuries" for himself and three other passengers.

"Following last night's show, our tour bus was in an accident on our way home from Bristol," he wrote in a statement posted to his social media platforms on Sunday. "There were just four of us, including myself, on the bus, however we were all treated for significant injuries."

"Our friend, and bus driver needs your prayers as he is still in the hospital," Hardy continued. "His family is with him while he is being treated and we're all pulling and praying for him."

The "wait in the truck" singer, 32, said he's since been released from the hospital but was "ordered by doctors to recover for the next few weeks which may cost us at a couple of shows."

"My team and I will keep the fans updated on that as I rest in the coming days," he explained.

"Please keep our road family in your prayers and I promise to keep you updated in the days to follow. God bless our medics and local and state officials for their quick response and incredible service."

In an update shared to his Instagram story hours later, the Academy of Country Music's reigning songwriter of the year said, "I'm alive and that's all that matters."

Hardy's fiancée Caleigh shared a photo of herself holding his hand, writing on her own Instagram story, "I'm thanking God with all of my heart that I'm able to hold his hand right now."

"It really is a miracle that everyone is safe," she added.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Hardy and his team were traveling west on Interstate Highway 40 on Sunday after performing at the Country Thunder music festival in Bristol, Tennessee, when the tour bus went off the right side of the roadway and overturned on its left side.

It's unclear if Hardy's next scheduled performance, set for Oct. 8 with friend and collaborator Morgan Wallen, will still happen.

Hardy Treated for ‘Significant Injuries’ After Tour Bus Accident

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

His family is with him while he is being treated and we’re all pulling and praying for him.”

pic.twitter.com/3HuX6bjDbW — HARDY (@HardyMusic) October 2, 2022

“Thank you all so so much for all of the prayers and well wishes. I’m thanking God with all of my heart that I’m able to hold his hand right now,” she wrote.

Bristol Motor Speedway also shared a message of support, tweeting, “please keep our friends HARDY and his road crew in your thoughts and prayers for a full and swift recovery.”

HARDY hospitalized with 'significant injuries' after tour bus flips over

Singer-songwriter HARDY was hospitalized after the tour bus he was traveling in flipped over early Sunday.

HARDY's tour bus went right off the road and overturned on its left side while traveling westbound on a portion of Interstate 40 near Nashville, Tennessee, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.   No charges were filed.

The 32-year-old Academy of Country Music Songwriter of the Year  tweeted  Sunday that he was released from the hospital after being treated for "significant injuries."

Four passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, he also wrote, which occurred after the singer was returning from playing the Country Thunder festival in Bristol, Tennessee, alongside headliner Morgan Wallen, Lauren Alaina, Tracy Lawrence and Ian Munsick.

HARDY added that the bus driver is still hospitalized, but he is with his family while being treated.

In his tweet, HARDY said he's been "ordered by doctors to recover for the next few weeks which may cost us at a couple of shows."

"My team and I will keep the fans updated on that as I rest in the coming days," he wrote. "Please keep our road family in your prayers ... (and) god bless our medics and local and state officials for their quick response and incredible service."

I took the tour again recently, because I had been told that it had improved since my last visit.

The result?  Yes, it is improved.

They addressed all of my earlier complaints about the  tour guides:

  • I had complained that it was sometimes hard to hear them speak, so they now pass out individual headphones that allow guests to easily hear the guide under all conditions.
  • I had noted that it was strictly a walking tour, and that all that walking could be a bit tiring for some members of the group.  So now they shuttle guests around in golf carts that hold about six people each - making for small, intimate tour groups, and making it easy for the less hardy to easily traverse the lot.
  • I had also complained that the tour guides' training seemed lacking, when it came to knowing the history of the studio.  But if the guide on my latest tour was typical, they have solved that problem as well.  Our guide, Travis, seemed well-versed on both the history and current activities of the studio, as well as being personable & professional.  He couldn't have done a much better job, given the natural limitations of the tour.  They have also outfitted the guides with iPads, which allow them to show guests photos and short videos illustrating the subjects under discussion.

And unless I'm imagining it, the studio lot itself (or at least its southern edge, around the Paseo) seems to look better, more gentrified, than on my previous trips - almost resembling a college campus in spots.

All in all, those are some nice improvements, and make for a much better tour than what I experienced in my earlier visits to the studio.

However, what they couldn't fix are the problems inherent to the Paramount lot itself.

Don't get me wrong, Paramount Studios is one of the most historic studio lots in town (and in fact, the only major studio still officially inside the Hollywood borders).  They made the very first movie to win an Academy Award ("Wings"), and on this lot they have shot such classics as  "The Godfather", "Forrest Gump", "Titanic", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Going My Way", "Sunset Blvd", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "King Kong", "Braveheart", "Grease" and the "Star Trek" series, to name just a few.

But what it lacks is a traditional big back lot, full of permanent standing outdoor sets.  This was a staple of the major studios back in the Golden Age, filled with faux residential neighborhoods, jungles, mock railroads, Western towns, and Paris streets.  These big back lots were always the most colorful and interesting aspects of any movie studio, at least from the standpoint of a visitor.  MGM had a huge back lot, before they tore it down in the '70s.  Warner Bros. still has theirs.  As does Universal, of course.

Stage 27 - Paramount Studios

To the average tour guest, all sound stages look more or less the same: distinguished only by the large numbers painted on their sides.  When they're in use, they are usually off-limits to tours.  When they are not in use, they are usually empty or filled with folded flats and lighting equipment.  So the guides are mostly limited to driving past these faceless barns, and telling us the history of each one, with tour guests catching an occasional glimpse of their dark, mostly empty interiors through the occasional open door.

( I noticed that they have added plaques to the outside of each sound stage, listing the notable movies & TV shows made inside.  That's great, except that the tour tram usually doesn't get close enough, or stop long enough for guests to read them. )

Stage 19 - Paramount studio

I realize that they can't, in practical terms, let the guests watch while movies are being made.  But they could (and should) show us more of the behind-the-scenes process.  Guests need to see things like the costume department, the prop houses, the recording studios, the dressing rooms, the mini-factories where they build the sets - and it sure wouldn't hurt to show guests at least one movie camera somewhere along the tour.

In short, they keep guests on the outside far too often, looking at exterior walls passing by, and listening to the guide's spiel.  Granted, the general buzz of the studio (its streets cluttered with white production trailers, and buzzing with the bikes and golf carts used to get around the lot) can be interesting in its own right, but a little of that goes a long way.

During my most recent tour, we only went inside twice: once to step into a tiny, empty, corner space in the New York set (that was once used for filming a scene from "Breakfast at Tiffany's"), and a second time to visit the empty set of "The Doctors" (a daytime TV talk show that I honestly never heard of).

Still, the tour is indeed better than it used to be, and I have to give them high marks for making an effort. And it remains superior to the Sony studio tour , which is just downright boring.  However, it still doesn't measure up to the Warner Bros. tour , with its huge back lot and more comprehensive tour.

But there are legitimate reasons why someone might opt for the Paramount tour.

Hollywood Sign seen from Paramount Studios

As the photo on the left shows, Paramount is the only major studio where you have a view of the Hollywood Sign from inside the lot. OK, let's get into the details of what you'll see:

The Paramount tour takes a full two hours, and barely scratches the surface of the numerous buildings and sound stages that make up the 65-acre studio.

hardy tour bus photos

When he does, your first stop will be the Paramount gift shop, where they will give you some time to wander around the small store (where they no doubt hope you will spend your money on one of their t-shirts or coffee mugs, all bearing the familiar Paramount mountain logo).  You can also get a cup of coffee here, and relax for a moment under an umbrella at a patio table just outside.

park

They will then head east along the south edge of the studio lot, along the Paseo, the tiled walkway that runs parallel to Melrose, inside the studio.  On the right (south) edge of this broad walkway is a small strip of lawn, called Marathon Park, that is often also used for filming (due to its convenient location and relatively low cost), and the guide will tell you about a few of those productions.

Then it is on to the iconic Bronson gate (the one featured in "Sunset Blvd", "The Artist", and many other films), where you'll be given the chance to pose for photos near that famous arch.  (It is indeed a very photogenic spot.)

Bronson Gate (Paramount Studios)

This brief history lecture (visually aided by the guide's iPad) seems to replace the short film about Paramount that used to be shown to tour guests before the start of the tour.  That's a mixed blessing, since its hard for a single person, no matter how talented, to compete with a professionally-made documentary film featuring the highlights of the studio's 100-year history.

Forest Gump Bench

Back outside on the Paseo, you'll be shown the original bench from "Forrest Gump", and regaled with stories about how Tom Hanks showed up one day to sit on the bench and pass out chocolates to passersby.

Then it's back on the tram, and through the Bronson gate into the actual working studio.

From here on in, the tours are somewhat played by ear.

hardy tour bus photos

As an example, on my visit, the guide ran into an unexpected problem.  While taking us to see the New York set (usually the highlight of the tour), he found his way blocked by a giant white tent, erected for some special event (you can rent the New York set for just such events, if you have the $10,000 a day it costs).  As a result, we ended up having to take a roundabout route and ended up seeing only a small section of the large New York set (portions of which mimic several East Coast cities).

hardy tour bus photos

We got out and were allowed to step inside the empty shell of a small storefront that our guide told us was used as the interior for Alex's boutique, called "Xela" on the TV sitcom "Happy Endings".  Since I never watched the show, that didn't mean much to me.

Breakfast at Tiffany's location

We were shown clips (via the guide's iPad) of a scene shot there from "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

We were also shown a very small alleyway just outside with fake bricks, and with fake sewers that could be rigged to emit steam, to add to that east coast ambiance.

New York set - trees

Along the way, there was a lot of talk of the current TV shows filming on the lot: "NCIS", "Glee" "Happy Endings" and "Rizzoli & Isles".  There are also a lot of Nickelodeon kid shows filming at the studio, with names like "Big Time Rush" and "Marvin Marvin", which didn't ring a bell with most of the adults on this tour.

Tourists always hope to see a celebrity on a tour like this, but that is always a longshot chance.

New York set

We also saw a number of little kids spill out of a bus, and were told they were the cast of an upcoming Nickelodeon show called "Haunted Hathaways".  But since the show hasn't aired yet, that didn't mean much.

Likewise, our guide later pointed out a tween girl in a colorful dress, and identified her as Ryan Newman, an up-&-coming star (according to our guide) appearing with Tony Danza on his latest sitcom, "See Dad Run".

But, as expected, the better-known stars of "NCIS", "Glee" or even "Happy Endings" were nowhere in sight.

Lucy Park

Finally, we headed to the southwest corner of the Paramount lot, which used to be RKO Studios, and later DesiLu (before Paramount absorbed it).

Our guide showed us Lucy Park (and an adjacent childcare center built by Lucille Ball for her employees).

Cheers prints

We took a look at (the exterior) of Stage 21, where RKO filmed the original "King Kong", and then it was back to the studio cafe (seen on "Glee" as "Breadsticks"), where we disembarked and dispersed (after more encouragement to spend money in the studio gift shop).

The bottom line?  The studio tour is better than it used to be, and well worth the time, when you're in Hollywood.  But it could still be better.  And the historic Paramount lot, while it has a lot to offer, isn't the ideal movie studio for a tour.

Parking : Parking is available across the street from the famous Bronson gate, in a paid lot at the corner of Bronson & Melrose. (The cost for parking was a flat $10.00 on my last visit.)

[ Prices are current as of December 2014.]

You enter through the new double-arch Paramount gate on Melrose, just west of the older Bronson gate. There is a pedestrian walkway on the right (east) side of this entrance. Stop at the booth there.

The Rolling Stones have announced they are going back on the road with a brand-new tour performing in 16 cities across the U.S. and Canada, stopping in Santa Clara, CA on July 17, 2024 at Levi’s® Stadium. Fans can expect to experience Mick, Keith and Ronnie play their most popular hits ranging from “Start Me Up,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Satisfaction” and more, as well as fan favorite deep cuts and music from their new album HACKNEY DIAMONDS . The legendary rockers will be returning to the road following the success of their history-making and chart-topping studio album HACKNEY DIAMONDS , which has just received a Grammy nomination for the project’s lead single “Angry.” Showcasing a new stage and high energy that only the Stones can bring as one of the world’s most iconic artists ever, this tour will guarantee a show to remember.

This past October, The Rolling Stones took over a New York City club, Racket NYC, to celebrate the release of Hackney Diamonds and turned it into a rock show, garnering rave reviews and giving the lucky audience a taste of what’s to come. Tried and tested, these songs are ready to hit the stadiums following their incredible preview…

“Everyone knew they’d just witnessed something historic.” – Rolling Stone

“For half an hour, a little club turned into a rock-and-roll church.” – Pitchfork

Hackney Diamonds is their first studio set of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang . Since then, the Stones have continued to smash box office records on a series of global sell-out tours and released 2016’s GRAMMY® Award winning Blue & Lonesome , which featured their brilliant versions of many of the blues tracks that helped shape their sound, and topped album charts around the world. Last year, they thrilled European audiences totalling nearly a quarter of a million on the anniversary Sixty tour. The Rolling Stones have sold over 250 million albums worldwide.

The Jewish Education of Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder

The Jewish Education of Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Rabbi Jason Miller

Twenty summers ago I was a Jewish 16 year old on a teen trip with u s y on wheels. We were halfway into the trip when we arrived in Palo Alto, California. When we pulled into the parking lot of the 5 star hotel, we all realized that we weren’t the only tour bus in the parking lot. There were rows up on rose of the fancy luxury home tour buses in the parking lot. It was only when we entered the hotel to check into our room stuff that we learned that all of the performers of Lollapalooza were guests of the same hotel as us.

My first encounter was with Anthony Kiedis of the red hot chili peppers. I talked to him for a few minutes in front of the hope hotel elevator, until he told me that he was losing his voice from that nights show and needed to get some hot tea and go to bed. I remember laughing at the fact that this hard rocker was going to call it a night around 11:30 pm.

One of the other members of the Chili Peppers turned to our group and told us not to do anything stupid at the hotel. Not 30 seconds later did have a large number of us teens stuff ourselves into the hotel elevator only to find ourselves stuck. Fortunately for us, are bus drivers husband was a firefighter and managed to save us from being stuck in the elevator between floors.

That Saturday morning following are Shabbat services, a number of teens from our group met Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder. Pearl Jam would soon become my favorite rock band which it is to this very day, but back in the summer of 1992 I hadn’t even heard of them yet.

The teens in our group from New York had already become devoted fans of Pearl Jam and immediately recognize to Eddie Vedder. Eddie and his girlfriend at the time, who had purple hair, were on the way to the tennis courts to hit some balls. Wow it was a u s y policy not to use cameras on Shabbat, some of the teens took pictures with Eddie Vedder. Some even had him autograph their paperback prayer books.

When one of our counselors saw what was transpiring, things got interesting. The counselors explained to Eddie Vedder that we were a Jewish teenage group that was not supposed to be taking photographs on the Jewish Sabbath. Vedder told the group that his girlfriend was partially Jewish and that he respected our religious observance.

One of the counselors told him that he and his girlfriend were invited to join us for our afternoon study session. It is a tradition in the summer time to study Pirkei Avot, the Ethics of our Sages, on Shabbat afternoon. The teens who had their prayer books autographed were chastised and then Eddie Vedder went on his way.

Tell the story ended there, it would have made for a great anecdote of our summer together. But twenty minutes into our study session in walked Eddie Vedder with his girlfriend. The teenagers began whispering and pointing to the back of the room at the unusual surprise. The boring study session just got interesting.

Vedder and his girlfriend sat in the back of the room listening as we discussed Jewish values and theology. After half an hour they decided they wanted to leave and Eddie Vedder raised his hand and said something very bizarre about the existence of cows. We all sat there the bewildered.

We left the hotel on Sunday and said our goodbyes to our new friends, which included rock stars and groupies and roadies from Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden , and several other bands from Lollapalooza. As our tour bus pulled away from the hotel parking lot we snapped our final photos of the tour buses.

We were on our way. At the first highway rest stop I got off the bus walked inside to the store and purchased a Pearl Jam’s Ten on CD. I would listen to that album thousands of times over the next decade. And come back to it many times in the decade that followed. Eddie Vedder’s music spoke to me during the rest of my teen years and into college.

Earlier this year to mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Ten, Pearl Jam 20 the movie documentary came out. Watching the DVD at home late one night, I thought back to the memorable and life changing summer I spent on a tour bus out west 20 years earlier. Well I didn’t even know who Eddie Vedder was as he sat in the back of the room at our shop bot afternoon study session, just knowing that I had learned Cora with Eddie Vedder the same year that Ten was released brought chills to my spine. I don’t know if he ever studied Torah again after that afternoon, but I sure feel blessed and honored to have witnessed the Jewish education of Eddie Vedder.
