Janet Jackson extends Together Again tour, this time with Nelly, and 6 California shows
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Good times we'll share again: Janet Jackson is extending her Together Again tour — this time with Nelly joining in on the fun.
Just about a year after she announced the initial outing, the showbiz icon on Wednesday confirmed a 35-date run across the United States and Canada this summer that will include the "Hot in Herre" rapper at all the shows.
"Hey u guys! By popular demand, we’re bringing the Together Again Tour back to North America this summer with special guest Nelly!" Jackson wrote Wednesday on Instagram, sharing a sizzle reel for the tour. "It’ll be so much fun! Tickets go on sale Friday 1/19. We can’t wait to see you ♥️☀️ #TogetherAgainTour"

Jackson's ninth concert tour originally included 36 sold-out shows and was the highest-selling of her career, according to concert promoter LiveNation. The "All for You" and "Got 'Til It's Gone" singer will play six California shows, launching the extended run in Palm Desert on June 4. After that, she'll perform at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatere in Chula Vista on June 6 and at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on June 8.
Additional Golden State shows are set for Anaheim on June 9, Sacramento on June 11 and San Francisco on June 12. The five-time Grammy and two-time Emmy Award winner's tour will also hit several big markets, including Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Brooklyn, Orlando and Atlanta before closing out the tour on July 30 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

"The Together Again tour will offer everyone the chance to reunite with Ms. Jackson in celebration of her 50th anniversary in entertainment and spotlight milestones for three of Jackson’s most critically acclaimed albums — 25 years of 'The Velvet Rope,' 30 years of 'janet' and 35 years of 'Rhythm Nation,'" Live Nation said in a statement. The tour features her chart-topping hits and the new leg promises a "powerhouse performance" from Nelly.
Ticket presale begins Wednesday and will run through general on-sale, which begins Friday on LiveNation.com .
The "That's the Way Love Goes" and "Scream" singer — the younger sister of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson — kicked off the Together Again tour in April with a 40-plus-song set, with special guest Ludacris and a guest appearance from “Today” co-host and superfan Sheinelle Jones . She wrapped her initial leg of the tour on Dec. 1 with a World AIDS Day performance at the NRG Arena in Houston.

Before launching the extended tour, Jackson will kick off the 2023 Music Making Waves concert series at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort on April 27. A portion of concert proceeds will be used to support the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, a nonprofit working to protect the ocean and ensure that the Bahamas remain a haven for marine wildlife, organizers said in a December statement to The Times.

Janet Jackson Says She Passed on Playing Storm in ‘X-Men’ Before the Role Went to Halle Berry
Jackson said she passed on the role because of tour obligations.
A legendary superhero role that ultimately went to Halle Berry was originally intended for Janet Jackson .
On a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show , Jackson revealed that due to touring obligations, she couldn't take on the role of Ororo 'Storm' Munroe in the first X-Men franchise film.
“Ooh, this is horrible—I can’t remember the film,” Jackson said when asked about roles she's turned down. “But Halle Berry played Storm..."

"X-Men?" Barrymore exclaimed.
“But I couldn’t, because I was just embarking on the Janet Tour," Jackson added.
The tour that Jackson was possibly referring to was The Velvet Rope Tour, which wrapped in 1999, the same year that X-Men began filming. She would resume acting in the 2000 comedy Nutty Professor II: The Klumps , which debuted seven years after her theatrical breakout in John Singleton 's Poetic Justice .
Although she hasn't acted since 2010's For Colored Girls, Jackson admitted she'd love to act again. "I would, for sure," she said.

Madonna in Rio: Behind the Scenes of the Negotiation for One of the Biggest Shows in History
The pop icon will finish her Celebration Tour with a free concert at Copacabana Beach on May 4. This is how it came to be.

Imagine the scene: One of the greatest pop artists in history is in the middle of the Palais Garnier, the imposing house of the Paris Opera. Then, with her blue eyes fixed on the camera, she says an entirely off-script phrase: “ Brazil , I’m coming.”
How to Watch Madonna’s ‘Celebration in Rio’ Concert Online for Free
But back then, in November 2023, there was nothing certain, not even close, for Madonna to take her Celebration Tour to Brazil . On the contrary, it was rumored that this would be an almost impossible mission due to technical reasons.
Trending on Billboard
It was up to the bank to pull strings to make it happen. But they were running out of time.
“The day after the shoot, we watched her show in Paris and realized that the structure would be complicated to adapt to a large crowd like the one we wanted. Because of this, Guy Oseary [the singer’s manager] poured cold water on us,” Smith says.
The following week, legendary businessman Luiz Oscar Niemeyer from Bonus Track, a “key player” in the process, appeared on the scene. Niemeyer is a pioneer in the international concert market in Brazil, responsible for Paul McCartney’s record attendance at Maracanã in 1993 (and for all of McCartney’s subsequent visits to Brazil) and the performance by The Rolling Stones on Copacabana Beach, among many other historic events.
So there were two players: the biggest bank in Latin America that already had a close relationship with Madonna, and an experienced producer used to dealing with the biggest names in showbiz. But destiny sometimes plays tricks.
“I had already tried to bring Madonna in 2006, without success, and I had already been talking to Live Nation, responsible for the Celebration Tour, but Madonna had that health problem last year, and the tour was postponed,” explains Niemeyer, or “LON” for those closest to him.
In mid-February (just over two months before the show date), negotiations intensified with Niemeyer back on track. “We became very close [to Niemeyer] and exchanged lots of info, like a task force to make this show possible, because Itaú had a contract with Madonna and Bonus Track, with Live Nation,” says Smith. “It was Saturday, Sunday, sometimes 3 am, and Luiz Oscar and I were in meetings with teams from outside Brazil.”
And the teams for everything related to Madonna, of course, are quite rigorous. “We have to deliver a show complying with the level of production that it presents around the world, naturally adapted for a much larger space. Only when we had the resizing of this structure, sponsorships, television broadcasting and technical issues approved was the deal finally closed,” explains Niemeyer, stressing that leaks about the show that took over the Internet in the weeks before the official announcement did not interfere in the negotiations.
According to him, from the beginning, the idea was that the show at Princesinha do Mar would close the Celebration Tour as “a great gift for Brazilian fans.” “It was a great choice – a Saturday, we have a holiday in the middle of the week, and more people can visit the city,” says Niemeyer.

“It’s so hard when you, like, are thinking of doing a film and then you don’t end up doing it,” she explained. “I have so many of those experiences. I’ve never said this out loud, Boogie Nights . There was a moment where we were talking about Boogie Nights and I think it’s when I went and did Ever After [A Cinderella Story] and I went in a very different direction.”
While the 50 First Dates actress didn’t share which role she was considered for, the 1997 film Boogie Nights ultimately starred Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds and Heather Graham.
The Poetic Justice star hasn’t appeared on the big screen in more than a decade, so when asked if she would be open to returning, she responded, “I would for sure.”
